The professional resume and the interview trio

Professional resumes and job interviews are connected. One leads to the other, if everyone is following best practices. Professional resume help is an x/y proposition. It is good or it is bad. The prose is well written or clumsy. The style of the resume writer is clear, or opaque. If you've chosen an experienced professional resume writing service you should expect high quality work. Anything less may prevent the resume writer from accomplishing the goal you should expect - interviews. Once you have a solid resume, you will begin to get interviews. If you're working with an interview coach or any kind of job interview expert, you'll learn that there are several kinds of job interviews. It's not a question of good or bad in this case. But you need to understand the details in order to succeed. Interviews can come in three varieties-behavior-based, conversational, and stress-and it can help you to spot the one you're in as soon as possible. Of course, they can overlap, or an interview may have segments of one and then another. Behavior-based interview: Also called competency-based interviews, these feature questions in a pre-ordained order with little opportunity for you to ask questions in return. Usually, the interviewer will let you know in advance that she is using this format. Be sure to provide examples as often as possible when responding here. These interviews focus mainly on eliciting information, and they may test your skill at negotiating clever questions. Conversational interview: These more resemble the experience of actually working in a firm, and give the employer a greater sense of how you might fit in. They seem relatively free-form and suggest ordinary conversations-but they're not. They give you and interviewer an opportunity to interact better and establish rapport, but they also let the interviewer circle back and ask the same questions from a different angle, to see if you are consistent or dig up more information on an important topic. Here, as with the first, the interviewer definitely has key questions he or she wants answered. Be careful of the wide-open "bio" question, where the interviewer asks you to describe your life or career. Don't discourse at length about your early life. Instead, sum it up briefly and move on to the more important recent achievements. Studies suggest that 50 percent of interviews may be of this type. Stress interview: In this version, the interviewer is curt and asks rapid-fire questions, an approach meant to raise your anxiety and test your ability to handle stress. It isn't personal, so don't swallow the bait and respond with annoyance. Instead, relax. You're seeing through the game. If you handle your answers well, you'll be ready to ask your own questions. I've always felt that if you remember the interviewer doing a lot of the talking during an interview that the meeting was probably a good one. No one ever listened himself out of a job, as one former president said. So if you have a chance, ask good questions of your interviewer. Then sit back and listen. It's your turn and you've earned it. In my next article, I'll focus on the kinds of questions you should ask during a job interview. This is important stuff. Said Thurber: "It's better to know some of the questions than all of the answers." See you next time.

The pros and cons of travel nursing

: Travel nursing is an attractive arrangement for many nurses. Assignments typically last thirteen weeks and the nurse is often given the option of renewing at the end of each assignment. For the outgoing nurse, who makes friends easily and likes change, travel nursing can be a wonderful career. Some nursing specialties are in greater demand than others, and for those with critical care, emergency room, intensive care unit, operating room, neonatal or labor and delivery experience, a travel nursing job should be easy to find. While travel nursing used to comprise a niche field within the nursing industry, it has become a mainstream career choice for many nurses. The Pros of Travel Nursing There are many benefits to travel nursing, the first of which is, of course, the travel. Travelers are able to work anywhere in the country, and, if they find an area not to their liking, they know the assignment will be over soon. If they fall in love with the hospital or the area of the country, they can ask to have their contract renewed. Another pro of travel nursing is the pay. While nurses are in demand everywhere, tightening of hospital budgets have left many staff nurse salaries stagnant. Travel nurses typically earn 20% more than a traditionally employed nurse in the same specialty. Another benefit of travel nursing is the fact that, when travel nursing, you are not drawn into the politics that a full or part time nurse would encounter. This includes everything from dueling supervisors to mandatory in-service meetings. While you will certainly make friends while on assignment, you will normally work your shift, maybe some overtime, and then head home. The lack of politics in these positions is a big draw for many nurses. The flexibility of the travel nursing schedule is another benefit. Many travel nurses routinely take a week or two, or even a month off, between assignments. The higher pay rate allows the travel nurse this flexibility, and, by letting his or her agency know when they are available, he or she will have a position waiting after their break. The Cons of Travel Nursing Of course, if travel nursing were perfect, everyone would do it. There are drawbacks to travel nursing, and it is not for everyone. Travel nurses may not receive all of the benefits of a full time employee. It is important to read your contract carefully, so that you understand exactly what to expect. While many travel nurses do not receive paid time off, some do, and it can be negotiated into your contract. Health insurance is typically offered, but it will likely be more expensive than what is offered to full and part time staff at the hospital. Some of the cons of travel nursing are apparent, and if they do not appeal to you, then travel nursing may not be a good choice for you. Travel nursing means that you will pack up your scrubs and move often, as often as every 13 weeks. While some people relish these frequent changes, others find it stressful. Another point to consider is that as reassuring as it is to know that you are not locked into a long term contract if the situation is less than ideal, you are also not guaranteed employment past your initial assignment. Frequent moves can be stressful for other reasons as well. With each new job, the hospital may require you to pass a competency exam or they can terminate your employment, for those who do not test well, this can be very stressful. There will be a new orientation with each new assignment as well. Another problem that many travel nurses encounter is passive or even open hostilities toward travelers from the staff. Because it is widely known that travel nurses receive a higher pay rate and more flexibility than staff nurses, there is often resentment among the other nurses. Also, the management may feel that the travel nurse should pull more of the unattractive assignments, since there is no concern of retention with the traveler. These two factors can ruin a travel nursing experience. Another negative aspect of travel nursing, and the one that can be most detrimental to the nurse in the long run, is the lack of career advancement. Most travel nurse contracts specifically forbid the nurse from holding any type of supervisory role. While this may be appealing to the traveler initially, once he or she is ready to head into more traditional work, their lack of supervisor experience can limit job opportunities. Travel nursing can be a wonderful experience if your temperament is suited for the work. Take the time to find a recruiter or agency that you feel comfortable with, and if you find an assignment that you enjoy, don't feel shy about asking for a contract renewal.

The road to becoming a licensed engineer

Licensing is necessary for an engineer to prove they maintain the expected level of professional competency. A degree alone is not enough. Practicing as an engineer involves important safety and public health issues. For this reason, licensing is required as proof that the individual understands the concepts, their applications and the code of ethics behind working as an engineer. The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) governs the licensure of engineers. They prepare all the engineering licensing exams, regardless of the state the exam is taken in. There are many advantages to becoming a licensed engineer. For one, only a licensed engineer may use the initials P. E. after their name (Professional Engineer). In addition, only a licensed engineer may use the title “engineer” to the public and become a private practitioner. As you probably already recognize, with the uncertainties in this day and age, the more credentials you have, the better your chances of finding employment are. Therefore, becoming a licensed engineer only makes sense. To summarize the steps to gaining your Professional Engineers License, most states require the completion of an engineering degree and the passing of an 8-hour Fundamentals of Engineering exam. Upon completion of the degree and the passing of the FE Exam, you will qualify for the EIT certificate. Once you complete the engineering experience requirements (usually 4 years of experience is required) and an 8-hour Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam in the your specialty, you will qualify for official certification as a Professional Engineer and may use the initials P. E. after your name. So once you graduate, make sure you start the licensing process (if you have not already done so) by gaining the pre-license certificate known as the Engineers in Training (EIT) certificate. Then begin gaining your experience. Be sure to tell your employer that you plan to become a licensed engineer. They will usually be happy to ensure that your work experience meets the criteria for licensing.

The role of the sexual assault nurse examiner a look into sane programs

Studies have shown that less than half of the victims of sexual assault treated in emergency rooms get basic help with information about the risk of pregnancy or emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy. They have to wait for sometimes up to six hours for treatment, and during this wait, they’re told not to eat, drink, or even use the bathroom before they’re examined because it might destroy evidence. By the time of the examination, victims often feel “re-raped” from the treatment by the staff of the emergency room. For this reason, emergency rooms are realizing a need for SANE programs. SANE’s are registered nurses who have specialized training in examining victims of sexual assault. They provide much needed emotional support for victims as well as testify in trials as expert witnesses in the victim’s perpetrator’s trials. They have extensive training in forensic evidence collection, expert witness testimony, STD treatment, and pregnancy evaluation. 75% of SANE programs are hospital based, housed in the emergency rooms while 25% are in the community setting at rape crisis centers or health clinics. The first SANE programs started in the mid 1970’s but it wasn’t until the late 1980’s that the programs got a major growth spurt as they grew more rapidly in the 1990’s when localities started to see the benefits of what these SANE programs have to offer. And by 1996, there were approximately 70 programs in existence. Now, there are at least 280 SANE programs throughout the United States. Nearly all of these SANE programs serve adolescents and adults, and around half serve pediatric patients. The programs are staffed by RN’s and nurse practitioners that conduct forensic exams of victims of sexual assault. They are required by law to report to local law enforcement sexual assaults that may have caused the victim injury. On the other hand, the victim has the right to decide to have evidence collected and cooperate with law enforcement by providing them with information. After a SANE program is established, most emergency room personnel are relieved by the service that SANE’s provide. Many municipalities are starting to see the need in these much needed programs. They offer a great service to victims by quickly processing forensic evidence and giving emotional support while making their time to wait for examination as short as possible. As SANE programs get more and more popular, we’ll start to see many more of these programs as time goes on and this can only help the victims of sexual violence and help put their perpetrators behind bars so they won’t have a chance to hurt anyone else.

The single most important aspect of your career

Do you want to get a promotion and make a lot more money? Do you want to be recognized for your hard work? Do you want to keep your job and not be downsized? In fact, do you want to know the secret to be Upsized? The most important skill you will ever learn is how to study and understand Office Politics. Office politics plays a very important role in whether you get a promotion, an award, the job that you want, or the compensation that you receive. Virtually every aspect of your professional career is influenced by social politics. The proper understanding of the social “food chain” in your work space is essential for your professional success and financial well-being. To understand why the organization works and how to use that information to your advantage, you must first understand how the “Big Fish” act and think. Who are the “Big Fish”? They are the decision makers, the people who are up-and-coming in the company and the people who hold ultimate power in the company. These are the CEO’s, Presidents, VPs, managers, and supervisors who are what I consider to be “in favor”. When it comes to these “Big Fish” they typically care only about two things. The first is how they can take credit for increasing the effectiveness of the company and the second is who around them can get the results they need to be successful. To summarize, for these people it is all about self-preservation and self-promotion. Are the “Big Fish” unethical or self-absorbed? No, the successful people just want excellent employees working for them and they expect results. If you were in a dog-sled race would you want a team of Siberian Huskies or Chihuahuas? The answer is obvious; you would want to win the race so you would want the best team available. Can this information be helpful to you? Let me ask you: 1. Do you think you stand a better chance of getting a promotion working for a “little fish” or a “Big Fish”? 2. Is your chance of getting a good raise better or worse if the VP knows your name and the projects you have worked on? 3. Are you more or less likely to move up in the company if you are working on a “Big Fish’s” pet project? The bottom line is this…If you align yourself with a “Big Fish” you will be considered for more opportunities than you would ever have working for a “little fish”. Why? The reason is because people trust people who can get the job done. If the “Big Fish” trusts you then he/she will be comfortable giving you more and more responsibility. And with more responsibility comes promotions and A LOT more money. Study your office politics and align yourself with a “Big Fish” and will progress your career farther and faster than you ever could have imagined.

The stress and anxiety of a reporter

Every long journey must face its consequential end - and so it is with the career of reporter. The journalistic odyssey of every reporter must eventually reach the end point... the last report from the field. The long years of tedious work in covering beats, going to different places, meeting different personalities and dignitaries – all these have induced stress and anxiety even on the most hardiest news reporter. As a reporter, a part of me rejoices while another part laments. It is really a difficult to swim in the polluted waters of politics and treacherous waters of truth-telling. However, with a deep sense of integrity and love for work, I managed to keep my head above the water. Eating death threats for breakfast, averting every danger while covering rally dispersals, and rendering more than the usual regular work hour just to substantiate and give justice to the news that people read and need. The stress and anxiety challenged not only my physical strength but also the stability of my emotions, and my commitment to the principles of journalism. Amidst all the challenges of journalism, I always found strength in God who is the Truth. Taking the long, arduous road to the factual truth was truly worth it. It is not everyday that a news item can enlighten the masses to the point of inspiring them to take action. All the stress and anxiety of the work seemed to be of little importance compared to the fulfillment of having brought to the people the information they need. Quite frankly, I went through heaven and hell just to find my own place in the competitive world of journalism. I, too, had to make sacrifices in terms of time and energy just to fulfill my calling. Like every journalist who tried to maintain integrity in work – I, too, had to tread my own via dolorosa – my road to suffering. Chasing one scoop after another, haggling to get the best shot and the most exclusive interviews among the Who's Who --- it was expected that I would sooner or later slow down due to stress and anxiety. Many times, I have contemplated about my worthiness to be a reporter. Modesty aside, my journalistic record already shows that I have what I takes to see my articles in print. Perhaps, like my fellow writers who have finished the struggle before me --- I, too, have earned my right...to have a place in this world. Admittedly, there were times when I fell due to self-doubt and envy. But something within me gave me reassurance that I could stand together with the best of them --- if I could only stop comparing myself to others. Thankfully, I learned that being a reporter...being a writer is such a solitary work. In the same manner, I should also learn to judge my own work --- motivated not by the need to belong or to get approval from others, but for the sheer love of the craft and the desire for continuous self-improvement as a writer and journalist. My experiences as a writer-reporter reminds me of the story about a man who found favor in the eyes of God. An angel of the Lord appeared to the man and said that he can have three wishes. The only catch was that whatever he wishes for, his neighbor will be granted twice of what he wished for. In reverent awe, the man fell on his knees and thanked the Lord for the blessing he has received. He first wished to have 1,000 heads of cow, and in effect, his neighbor received 2,000. His second wish was for a son, and subsequently his neighbor had twins. In a sudden bout of envy, he asked the Lord to gouge out his left eye so that his neighbor would lose both eyes. The angel of God was saddened by his wish and never granted the last request. Indeed, man must never fall into the trap of envy. Instead, we must strive for excellence while wishing good for our fellowmen. As a reporter, stress and anxiety will always be present and should be treated as part and parcel of being a journalist. In summary, a reporter-writer must not only search after the truth. He must also be a force for good.

The three elements in a winning resume

As a recruiter, I've seen thousands of resumes ranging from very qualified and capable candidates all over the nation. These candidates span from every industry and from administrative professionals to C level corporate executives. Each time I review a resume, I would review it under the eyes of the hiring manager. Through their eyes, I tried to get a sense of who the candidate is and how they are wired. The goal is to see if the candidate (communicated through a resume) capabilities will drive a degree of success in a particular capacity. Research has shown that a typical hiring manager or recruiter will only look at a resume for approximately 15 seconds so bearing that in mind, I perform this resume critique under three basic guidelines. If you want to be noticed and receive the proper consideration, following these suggestions will help improve your chances of landing an interview. Building Your Brand This is your professional identity and perhaps the most important element that most resumes fail to develop. You can establishing your brand and increase your marketing collateral by ensuring that your resume is concise, clearly identifying your professional traits and demonstrate how you will fit into the position and the company corporate culture, captivating, grammatically perfect and of course free of spelling error. It needs to flow, easy to read and pact with rich content organized in a format which screams "HIRE ME!” Succeed here and your resume will be pushed forward in the process. Fail here and your resume will be filed away. Differentiate Yourself Whatever you do, do not copy someone else's objective statements. Write them yourself or with the help of an expert. The more unique your profile is, the higher the chances of a full review on your resume. An effective profile should be brief and encapsulate your background while highlighting your capabilities and accomplishments. Always tailor your profile to fit the position so do not use the same profile for every submitted resume. Value How will you add value to the position? This is the first question hiring managers or recruiters look for in a candidate. After all, that's why they are hiring in the first place. You can demonstrate your value buy quantifying results. Describe how you helped a company increased revenue, lowered cost and increase productivity. Don't be afraid to use numbers even if they are not exact. Conclusion Maximizing your brand will help identify and articulate your professional skills to the decision makers the immediate value and benefit that you bring to the company. This is your chance for good first impression and believe me, first impressions are everything during your job search campaign. Differentiate yourself will give you a competitive advantage so revise your profile to create a powerful effective 15 second pitch. Finally, quantify your success and show decision makers how you can contribute to the company’s bottom-line. If you take the initiative to embrace these three essential elements in defining your resume, you will recognize greater results in your search efforts. Have an expert put together an organized, engaging and compelling cover letter that's poised for high impact. An expert can tailor our message, convincing the reader to proceed to review your resume. Sadly, first impressions count so unless you have an effective cover letter, no matter how stunning your resume is, it will not be considered. Work one-on-one with an expert to determine the approach that will get you the interview. An expert can help you identify your uniqueness, uncover your qualities and build your brand.

The top 4 ways to build your personal training business and which one is best

The Top 4 Ways to Build Your Personal Training Business and Which One is Best! Everyone wants to grow their business. It doesn’t matter who you are, or what business you are in. Unless you are not interested in money or career security, you want your business to grow. Do you feel like you want to grow your personal training business, but you’re not sure how to do it? Are you ready to take your business to the next level, but you don’t know how? Then this article is for you! Let’s start by defining the 4 ways that anyone can grow a business, and then we will examine which one has the most growth potential: 1) Get more customers – Do you just want more customers who use your service, buy your products, or both? How many customers can you fit into your day, or provide products for? How many customers do you have the time and the resources to support? 2) Sell more products or services to your present customers – This is a great idea, since your present customers already trust you. However, it is limited because each customer will only spend a certain amount of money, or they will only need a certain number of products. Once their needs have been filled, or they can no longer afford what you offer, then you will no longer be able to sell products and services to those clients. 3) Raise the prices that you charge for your product or services – In most cases, this has got Bad Idea written all over it. Although there are times when raising your prices or your rates is a good business move, just arbitrarily saying that you will simply charge more in order to make more money spells doom for your business in the long run. 4) Find a way to duplicate your efforts by having people who work under you distribute your products or services. There are few drawbacks to this method, and it is in fact the recommended method for business growth in today’s economy. Check out the breakdown below of why methods 1 through 3 are limited at best, and how option 4 – duplicating your efforts – is the only surefire way to grow your business permanently and exponentially. 1. Getting more customers is always a good idea for any business, provided the infrastructure is in place to handle the needs of the increased customer base. However there are 2 major problems with this method: a) Acquiring new customers is expensive and time-consuming. Most people are aware that the cost to keep a present customer is significantly less than the cost of acquiring a new one. The time and/or finances needed to continually bring in new clients will eventually run out. b) If you are a small business owner, handling an excessive number of clients or customers can become almost impossible, especially if you are in a service-based industry such as personal training. Even if you hire staff to help with the extra client load, bringing new employees into your organization brings with it another set of headaches that may very well not be worth the effort. If you decide to handle all client service and support yourself, you will quickly find yourself with no life whatsoever, even though you are building and working your business from sun up to sun down day after day. 2. Selling more products or services to your present customers is a great idea, but that idea also has a limited lifespan. Eventually your customers will either no longer need your services (a personal trainer never keeps a client forever), they will run out money to pay for your products or services, or they will get enough products to last them for the foreseeable future, and they will stop buying. All of these scenarios end the same way: You no longer receive any additional revenue from selling more products or services to that customer. 3. Raising the prices of your product or service may be a smart business/marketing idea in certain circumstances. However, even when that is the case, there is still a set amount of money that your customers will be willing to pay for your products or services. If you are a personal trainer who trains 8 sessions a day for $50.00 per session, you make $400.00 per day. Not bad! In a 5-day work week, you will make $2,000.000. What would happen if you became known as the best personal trainer in town, and jacked your rates up to $200.00 per training session? You are now making $1,600.00 a day, and bringing in $8,000.00 a week! Well, first of all, the above scenario is unrealistic. Not many trainers make $200.00 per session. Of those that do, what about cancellations? What about when your clients get sick or go on vacation? What happens if you are the one who gets sick or goes on vacation? What if you get injured? What if you get too old or burnt out to keep up the pace of 40 intensity-packed personal training sessions week after week for years on end? The fact that you raised your rates to the upper end of what a personal trainer can expect to make doesn’t protect you from the fact that there are still many, many obstacles that can and will block your income potential. Some of those obstacles are permanent in nature and out of your control! 4. Finding a way to duplicate your efforts by having people underneath you distribute your products or services is the only solution that is effective, will work indefinitely, and is not bound by your personal schedule or other physical limitations. You will receive a share of the money that is generated by those working under you, and you can eventually leave the game completely if you wish, allowing your business to run itself with minimal guidance and input from you. If you desire true financial and time freedom, duplicating your efforts is the only way it is ever going to happen. So how do you duplicate your efforts? You find a product and/or service that can be distributed by others who work under you, while giving you a share of the profits that are generated by their efforts. The only business model that allows this scenario – without hiring employees – is Network Marketing. Network marketing is an industry whose time has finally come. The business regulatory systems in the world have put rules and laws in place to prevent consumers from being taken advantage of by shady companies, false promises, and outright lies. The network marketing companies that remain solvent are profitable, ethical, and they allow you to grow your business exponentially through your own efforts, as well as the efforts of others. If you truly want to grow your business without limits, and at the same time increase your bank account as well as the amount of time that you can spend with friends and family, a successful network marketing company with quality products meets those requirements easily. To find out more about why network marketing is the only way to secure your future, read the book ‘Wave 4, Network Marketing in the 21st Century’, by Richard Poe. The travel nursing profession in brief

Travel nursing is a wonderful way to merge the nursing profession that you love, with a fondness for travel, meeting new people, and gaining new experiences. You can travel to and work in different locations and medical facilities around the country as a travel nurse or as a travel nursing professional. By joining an agency for traveling nursing professionals, you can gain the experiences of meeting people and seeing the landscapes of different areas and develop a broader range of nursing skills by working in the top notch medical facilities scattered throughout the nation. The travel nursing profession offers you the opportunity to share your skill and compassion as a nursing professional with people from all over. Travel nursing is unlike most other forms of business travel. Usually with travel for business purposes there is little leisure time available between business meetings, conventions, tradeshows, and the like, for treats such as sightseeing excursions, shopping, and entertainment experiences. But in the travel nursing profession you will be living and working in the areas you accept assignments to. When you are not working, you will be able to take in the sights and soak up the local cultures, shop, dine, and attend the entertainment and sporting events held in different regions, which makes traveling away from home so exciting. Don't grab a suitcase, throw in some clothes, and head out for destinations unknown expecting that any hospital or medical facility you walk into will have a position just waiting for you. The travel nursing profession is open to a variety of nursing professionals from RN's, and LPN's to Radiologists, Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapists and other nursing professionals. But there is a process involved and requirements that must be met before you can begin working in the travel nursing profession. You must have successfully graduated from an accredited US or Canadian nursing program. You will be required to keep your nursing license current, and if you are entering to work in the United States from Canada, you will need to provide proof of a valid nursing license and a valid work permit for working in the United States. Furthermore, keep in mind that each state has its own requirements for allowing out-of-state health care professionals to practice within their borders that must be met before you can begin working in that state. Some people may try to persuade you into thinking that you do not need to join a travel nursing profession agency. Although you most certainly can put yourself through the lengthy and cumbersome process yourself, there are many hoops to jump through in order to inquire about their regulations and asking for applications to be sent to you. However, remember that you will need to fill these out and mail them back to the agencies that sent them to you, and then wait for a notice that your applications have been accepted. All of this work and you have not even contacted any of the hospitals and other medical facilities in that state to inquire if they have positions for traveling nursing professionals. You may even be unable to secure the no cost lodging that is made available to many members of the travel nursing profession belonging to professional travel nursing profession agencies. It is true as well that many hospitals and other medical facilities prefer working with travel nursing professionals affiliated with a travel nursing profession agency over those traveling professionals that approach them on their own. A professional agency representing the travel nursing profession simplifies the process of finding and requesting applications from state nursing regulatory agencies around the country, and also provides many other benefits to its members. They are in contact with top notch hospital and medical facilities from around the country and they are knowledgeable about the positions that are open to travel nursing professionals wanting to work in those states. They are also more able to secure no cost lodging arrangements, high pay and bonuses for the travel nursing professionals they serve. You can learn more about the agencies that represent travel nursing professionals and about the travel nursing profession online. Of course you should check out the credentials of any travel nursing profession agency before giving them your personal information in the same way that you need to protect yourself and your personal information using the internet. The travel nursing profession pays well and the demand for traveling nursing professionals is large with the nursing shortages that are occurring throughout the United States. Travel nursing is a wonderful way to broaden your skills as a nursing professional as you work in a variety of nursing faculties and with different nursing professionals. It is an excellent way to experience meeting new people and learning about the cultural flavors in different areas. The travel nursing profession is a perfect merging of providing those in need with quality health care, and traveling to regions you have always wanted to see and experience.

Thinking of an accelerated nursing program to further your career

There is such a demand for people to enter the field of nursing that many new programs are being developed to certify nurses in record time. There are a number of options available and an accelerated nursing program is usually the most popular option among those who want to enter the field of medicine. Some people may not be comfortable knowing that nurses can be trained in very little time. However, a good accelerated nursing program will be through and effective in helping the future nurse master the skills required for the job. One thing to consider is the traits of a good nurse. The skills required to be an effective nurse are not completely taught in the classroom. Some people have the natural talent to be in this field while others will never master the job no matter how many hours they spend in the classroom. An accelerated nursing program recognizes that the technical skills need to be targeted while the more subtle skills that the job requires are often inherit in the individual. Many patients have encountered the perfect nurse but few of us think about why that person was so good at his job. There are some qualities that a good nurse has that can not be taught. Consider your best encounter with a nurse. She probably had the ability to put you at ease in just a few words. Or she could simply make you feel relaxed through her demeanor and approach. Describing such qualities in your caregiver is often difficult. There is something about the person that helps you through the difficult situation but you are not sure what it is. Of course, an accelerated nursing program does not go into depth on developing such qualities. Neither does an extended, traditional program. Now consider your worst encounter with a nurse. She was probably abrasive and indifferent. Maybe she was sarcastic. She may have made you feel as if you were a burden. She could have technically done everything right but you just feel awful after seeing her. Bedside manner is briefly covered in an accelerated nursing program but it is equally addressed in the traditional school. The nurse who made you feel uneasy was probably unaware of her effect on you. She was just doing her job. The fundamental difference between the good nurse and the bad one is their attitude toward the profession. The first nurse is caring for a person and she recognizes this. The second nurse is just doing her job.

Three steps closer to your next job

Job hunting can be stressful – trawling through the papers, browsing the internet, worrying about the state of your CV - but with just a little thought and planning, you could find yourself closer to your next job. 1. Get some advice If you’re buying a house, you get advice; if you’re starting a business, you get advice; if you’re changing jobs, you just go ahead and do it. Once you’ve decided that you want a new job, why not take the time to get some advice? Find out which companies are growing, what sort of salaries are being offered for the sort of work you do and what prospects are available for someone with your skills or qualifications. Get impartial advice on your strengths and weaknesses and identify areas where some additional training or experience may be useful. By getting some advice before you look for a job, you will be better prepared to select the right job for you. 2. Sort out your CV – now! There’s no shortage of CV advice and guidance on the internet, but a lot of people must be ignoring it because agencies and employers are still receiving lots of poorly written and planned CVs. Your CV is the first contact your future employer has with you, so it’s vital you make a good impression. If you’re not confident about producing your own CV, then invest in professional advice – it’s worth it if it helps you to get a better job in the long run. 3. Research Once you’ve been called in for an interview, there’s no excuse for not being properly prepared. The more you know about the company, the more confident you will be at interview. Nearly every company has a website, and most will send you product and corporate information if you ask for it. This research will also allow you to ask informed questions at interview. Follow these three basic steps and you should find yourself in a much better position when it comes to selecting and applying for your next job.

    Time for a career change

Did you know that the average person changes their career six times in their working life? There are many different reasons why a person would decide to switch careers - they may be laid off at their current job, a dream job may come along, people in a committed relationship may find themselves having to consider new prospects due to a change in location of the job of the other partner, or someone may just become plain bored in their current career, to the point where it feels like there is no point to the day. Career changes are not a bad thing, but they need to be planned according to the circumstances of your life, in such a way that you will still have the funds coming in which you need to survive. Most of us will spend our lives hoping for the ideal job, but this will rarely materialize. The fact is, almost all jobs have their pitfalls - we may scoff at actors of musicians who complain about their long workdays or schedules, pointing to their pay checks, but the fact is that many jobs that offer lucrative incomes also entail a lot of dedication and hard work in order to get to the top. When you are defining your dream job, remember that almost every job comes with its downside, even if that downside is only the repetitiveness of the day. A career change does not necessarily have to entail extensive retraining. Many people who have lost their jobs through layoffs or downsizing will find that their skills are still in demand, and that their experience is very useful in finding a new career. If you do not feel like retraining, consider a job with a different company where your skills fit. If you want to get right out of the corporate area, the odds are good that you can find a niche for yourself as an independent consultant or another area in which your expertise will add to your marketability. Some people decide that they in fact do desire a total 360 degree turn from their current career path. In such circumstances, it is again best to begin by shopping the skills obtained at your former job only applied to new markets. You may also want to consider some retraining through college or university courses. There are many training courses available online, so people often do not even have to leave their homes in order to obtain the skills necessary to their new careers. Whatever your decision, remember that it is always easier to find a new job when you are not desperate for one. Take the time to think through your decisions and applications carefully before severing ties with your current job; you may be ready for a change, but you will still have to eat in the meantime! In the event that your company has been downsized or other circumstance that has led to being laid off, find out if there are any contingency plans in place for retraining through the company or through any of the levels of government. This can provide a good financial buffer for that in-between time.

Tips for a stress free it job search

The best source to look for jobs related to Information Technology (most commonly known as IT) is, obviously, the Internet. Various sites offer listings of job openings for specific fields. The key for a fruitful search is to know how and where to look for the best possible jobs available. To have access on a certain site's listing, an individual must first accomplish the following: 1. Register at the chosen site 2. After registration confirmation (via an email from the moderator of the site), the individual may now have access to the list 3. In searching for the preferred or suitable job vacancy, you may be asked to fill out a form (online) that states an individual's profile. This is usually used for easier browsing of related work since IT has various fields of specialties. Other sites automatically match an individual's profile with the available or suited vacancy based on the information given by the person. 4. The applicant has the option to choose from contractual, full-time, part-time, trainee or temporary jobs category. 5. If the individual prefers work that is currently not listed on the site, he or she may have the option of posting his or her resume, from which prospective employers may browse through at some other time. To avoid frustration while browsing through the numerous listings of IT openings on the Internet, take into consideration the following pointers: 1. Determine the following: 1.1 Organize your career portfolio in soft and hard copies. While most employers will ask for a copy of you resume through the net (email), there are some that still require hard copies for submission at their respective offices. 1.2 Determine preferred location of work. Is the individual willing to be relocated should a good position be offered in another city or state? Does he or she prefer work within commuting distance? 1.3 Salary. Though it would not be wise to make demands on one's salary especially during the interview process, an individual must have a predetermined range of salary that he or she would be willing to accept, whoever the employer would be or wherever it may be located. 2. Rank the items listed above based on one's priority. 3. Search the Internet for various sites with listings of IT job openings. 4. Register on a number of sites for a wider access to various lists. 5. Submit resume based on the predetermined priorities.

Tips for a successful local job search

If you are seriously searching for a local job, but you have no idea where to look, you may be just one of the thousands of unemployed people in the country. However, finding a job is easy when you know where to search. Where can you find employers? How can you find your desired local job? Before anything else, you should determine your skills and abilities, update your resume and be ready to face the employment process. There are several options on where to find employment. 1) Job Center: Job centers provide numerous vacancies for different kinds of work. Majority of job centers update their employment board frequently. Originally, these career centers cater to young jobseekers up to 21 years old. They arrange for appropriate job interviews, which they believe, would match your skills and abilities. Some job centers also process training vacancies and apprenticeships to young people. Today, these centers also cater adults’ need of employment. 2) Newspapers: Local and national newspapers, non-profit papers and job hunting newspapers provide advertisements on current job vacancies. You could find all the existing newspapers in libraries and check all the recent job postings. Majority of newspapers today have their content available online. You could browse through them one by one and list all the jobs you prefer. 3) Journals and magazines: Every industry has their own periodicals, magazines or journals. Most employers go to these publications for employing professionals. Some could be bought in magazine stands and others come by subscription. Therefore, if you are hoping to establish your career based on your finished field of study, you could subscribe to a professional magazine and increase your local job prospects. 4) Agencies: Employment agencies handle most of vacant local work. Covering all kinds of work for various industries, these agencies are listed in local directories and Yellow pages. 5) Employer grounds: Many companies have job vacancies on their premises. Since these companies such as food retailers make use of internal notice boards, they do not advertise in newspapers and agencies. You could walk into these companies and ask the front desk for employment vacancies. 6) Internet: The most cost-effective way in finding local jobs is through the internet. Majority of employment agencies, newspapers, top companies, magazines and job centers have their own website. You could save time by searching through them one by one and apply for the job you prefer the most. Making use of all these options could save you a lot of time searching for your desired local job. You could use all of these methods simultaneously to increase your chances of employment.
