The way to decide on a car loan

Car loans are certainly less costly than home mortgages, student loans, or other kinds of loans. So why do so many people end up defaulting and losing their cars? Find out these hidden dangers: Biggest Hidden Car Loan Danger: The Inherent Money Pit Unlike home mortgages, student loans or other big-ticket loans, car loans are inherently money pits. A house can build equity; higher education can increase earning potential; even jewelry can sometimes be re-sold for as much as was paid for it. If you borrow to buy one of those things, you may eventually get a return on investment. But every single car loses significant value and keeps losing it as time goes by. Solution: spend as little on your car as possible. Of course, in order to spend as little as possible over the life of the vehicle, you need to get a well-made, fuel-efficient car, rather than the one with the lowest price on the windshield. But a pickup truck, SUV, sports car, or "luxury" model is a guaranteed money-loser. Don’t worry about what other people will think. Think about it: when was the last time you saw an expensive automobile and thought, "I really like and respect whoever owns that!" The best buy? Many economists actually recommend buying a used car that's a year or two old. That way you can actually benefit from the fact that cars only drop in value. Even a car that’s just six months old may offer you a substantial savings. Just have it inspected thoroughly so you don't lose what you've saved on maintenance payments. Hidden Car Loans Danger: Dangerously High Monthly Payments Unfortunately, most people never figure out the total cost before signing on the dotted line. They end up staying up late at night trying to figure out how to make ends meet. They live in smaller houses. They skip going out at night. They don’t go on vacation. All that sacrifice to have a brand-new SUV in the driveway! Take a hard look at your finances, and figure out how much you can pay total each month for your car. Be sure to take into account insurance, tax, maintenance, and fuel. Usually, when people actually do calculate the total monthly cost of the car they’re considering buying, they’re amazed by how high it is. How Much Car Debt Can You Afford? 1) Make a list of your average monthly non-car expenses, and subtract them from your earnings. your monthly after-income-tax income any other taxes housing (including any fees and property taxes, and utilities) food health insurance or HMO life insurance debt payments 401 (k), IRA, or other long-term savings short-term savings telephone, cellular phone, cable, internet, etc. entertainment and fun stuff (be honest!) cost of yearly vacation(s) divided by 12 other expenses what you can spend on a car 2) Subtract your monthly car-related expenses from the amount you have left over from your other expenses. What you can spend on a car (from above) Amount you’re spending per month on gas (raise or lower this figure depending on whether you are getting a car with higher or lower gas mileage). Monthly maintenance (remember: your new car won’t stay new long, so maintenance will be an issue). Monthly insurance (remember that for a new car, your insurance premiums may go up). Tax. Maximum monthly loan payment. Now plug the number above into a vehicle loan rate calculator to figure out big of a car loan, and how much interest you can afford. Final Hidden Auto Loan Danger: Unnecessarily High Rates If you simply take the first loan the dealer offers you, you are probably paying too much. Do some comparison shopping on the internet, and bring a list of the best loans with you when you negotiate loan terms with the dealer. Don’t let the dealer cheat you by shifting the cost from the car loan to the car price to the deal on your trade-in. Make sure you get a good deal overall. Congratulations! You now are far better prepared to stay out of an auto loan money pit than the vast majority of car buyers.

    The whole convertible experience

Two doors. That’s the usual number of doors that a convertible has. In truth, a convertible is a car body style that has been a popular favorite among many car owners because of the style. This is mainly because a convertible has a folding or a retracting roof. For most convertibles, the collapsible roof section is usually made from flexible canvas or vinyl. However, technology and changes in design have made it possible for car manufacturers to produce convertibles with a collapsible roof section that is made of plastic, aluminum, or steel. Keep in mind though that when the top of the vehicle is made from rigid material like steel, that vehicle is often called a retractable hardtop instead of it being called a convertible. Driving in a convertible could be quite fun especially when you do imagine the scene where you drive downtown with the wind in your hair and the top off of your car. That surely would make your adrenaline rush as well as make other people’s heads turn towards your direction. That is why it is important that you do put in your head some tips when you drive or own a convertible. If you want to open or close the top of your convertible, it is important that you pull over first and come to a complete stop. You see, if you try to open or close the top of your convertible while you are speeding, the force of the wind could actually damage the mechanism that controls it. It is also important that you wear eye protection like sunglasses. This type of protection would actually keep any airborne debris like dust, sand, or small parts of trees from getting into your eyes. When you have to park your convertible, park somewhere where there are no trees. That is, if you plan to leave your car with the top down. You see, if you park under trees with the top down, when you come back, you would most likely find bird droppings or tree sap in your car.

About driving theory test To get your full driving licence you need to pass two tests, theory test and practical test. Driving theory test - The theory test is made up of two parts; the multiple choice part and the hazard perception part. If you pass one part and fail the other you'll fail the whole test, and you'll need to take both parts again. Once you have passed the theory test you can then apply to take your practical driving test. A. Multiple choice element

    • The theory test is a computer-based test at various tests centres around the country.
    • This section is designed to test your understanding of the theory behind driving.
    • Before the test starts you'll be given instructions on how the test works. You can also choose to go through a practice session of the multiple choice questions to get used to the layout of the test. At the end of the practice session the real test will begin.
    • You have 57 minutes to complete the test. There is a 15-minute practice session you can work through before starting the tests.
    • The questions in each multiple choice test vary according to the category of vehicle you're hoping to obtain a licence for, i. e. a motorcycle theory test will contain specific questions that don't appear in any other test.
    • A question and several answer options will appear onscreen and you have to select the correct answer to the question by touching the screen. Some questions may require more than one answer.
    • You can navigate between questions and 'flag' questions that you want to come back to later in the test. After the multiple choice part you can choose to have a break of up to three minutes before the hazard perception part starts.
    • For cars and motorcycles you'll be asked randomly selected 50 multiple-choice questions in 57 minutes and you need to get at least 43 right to pass.
    • For lorries and buses you'll be asked 60 questions in 70 minutes and the pass mark is 51 out of 60.
    • The cost of the theory test is £28.50
    B. Hazard Perception Test After the break you'll then be shown a short tutorial video clip about how the hazard perception part works.
    • This forms a second section of the theory test and must be passed at the same time.
    • This section is designed to tests your awareness of potential hazards whilst driving.
    • The hazard perception part is also delivered on a computer but you respond by clicking a button on the mouse.
    • You'll be presented with a series of 14 video clips each about a minute long, which feature every day road scenes. In each clip there'll be at least one developing hazard, but one of the clips will feature two developing hazards.
    • The videos feature various types of hazard, such as road conditions, vehicles and pedestrians.
    • The earlier you spot a hazard developing that may require the driver to take some action, the higher the score.
    • There are 15 scoreable hazards in the tests and candidates can score up to 5 points on each hazard.
    • Unlike multiple choice questions, for the hazard perception test there are no separate versions for different vehicles e. g. car, bike, heavy vehicle etc, each vehicle category takes the same test, however the pass mark is different for different categories of tests.
    • You won't be able to review your answers to the hazard perception test; as on the road, you'll only have one chance to respond to the developing hazard.
    • The pass mark for the car and motorcycle hazard perception part of the theory test is 44 out of 75. For lorries and buses the pass mark is 50 out of 75.
At the end of the test At the end of the hazard perception part of the theory test you'll be invited to answer a number of customer survey questions. You don't have to answer the questions if you don't want to, and any information given is anonymous and confidential. The survey questions don't affect the result of the test. When you have finished the test you may leave the examination room. Once you have left the room, you'll not be allowed to enter it again. You'll then be given your result by the test centre staff.

Things to keep in mind when shopping for a used car

Obtaining a used car can be a bit of an exercise in navigation if you're unaware of how things go about. There are several factors to consider when purchasing a used car, such as damage left over from a car accident and the potential for stress if you can't make your payments. You may even end up having to consider whether or not you're likely to get cramps or muscle spasms because the interior is too damn small for your body build. For some people, the stress relief factor of having a car might end up being overruled by the stress of being in the car for extended periods. As such, there are usually a number of things that one has to keep in mind when purchasing a used car. First and foremost, a prospective buyer ought to know his or her capacity to pay for the car. This does not only mean covering the down payment, but also includes whatever payments you have to make on a monthly basis. Long-term considerations of the costs of purchasing and maintaining a car – used or brand new – can save you a lot of stress and anxiety later on. Consider the stability of your financial state and whether or not you can afford the car in the foreseeable future based on your current financial condition. Spare yourself the stress and try not to hope that your condition will improve when you purchase a car that's just out of your current price range. After all, you're not paying for the car in the future. You're paying for it in the here and now. If you think you can handle the purchase or you've got a good enough credit rating, then your next worry should be what type of car you want. Be sure to consider things like muscle cramps and chronic pain when checking the interior. It simply will not do if you've got a fancy Ferrari in your garage but you feel crippling lower back pain each time you take it out for a spin. Also, be sure to consider whether the car is suited for your needs and the needs of the people who will be using it with you. If you're a family man, a car with a lot of room can save you stress and headaches from kids complaining that there's not enough room. Smaller, flashier cars with a lot of speed would probably be better for bachelors trying to impress that potential Ms. Right. People just trying to get from Point A to Point B would be better off getting a reliable but unremarkable model. The third thing on your mind ought to be where you're buying the car, and whether the seller can be trusted. We've all heard the stories about unscrupulous, double-dealing used car dealers. Some people have even gone so far as to claim they've developed anxiety and phobias around used car dealers because of those stories. True or not, it pays dividends to take precautions when purchasing a used auto. Examine whatever reputation or records you can get about the dealership you're getting the car from and make sure you're confident and not feeling any anxiety towards making the purchase. Provided the dealership has a good record and they've got a reasonable price for the model you're looking for, you probably shouldn't feel too much anxiety prior to inspecting the car. It is critical that you examine the car in person before you pay for it, or even agree to anything. Check for anything that might indicate poor maintenance, mishandling, or even repairs done after a car accident. Most aspects of a car can be repaired after a car accident, but even if you replace some parts, the performance might never be the same. It doesn't help that poor maintenance can mean a higher chance of you getting into a car accident because the last owner didn't know the difference between an axle and a gasket. Save yourself the possibility of exorbitant medical bills and anxiety by giving the car a good once-over, making sure to inspect everything you can without having to tear it apart. In the end, getting a used car can be a bit of a daunting prospect if you're unprepared. So you'd best do a little research before you go dipping your hand into the cookie jar. Keep the above bits of advice in mind because very talented used car salesmen can find ways to circumvent a person's common sense and dupe you into buying a flashy piece of junk.

Things to remember while selling your car

The main reason why people go in for selling their car is to buy a better model or something a little classier. One must do a bit of homework before going into trying to sell the car to the first interested party. You should note down details pertaining to your car such as the model, how old is it, how many miles you have driven, the popularity of the car now and ofcourse the amount of repair works you have done on it. Cars that have been owner driven are said to fetch a better price than those driven by chauffeurs, simply because this directly reflects on the condition of the car. While getting down to calculating the asking price, it is important to be clear about what it really is worth, no point in demanding a price that is not reasonable. If any major paint work or repair has been carried out, make sure to include that in the price as well. Any extra fittings or accessories that you have installed needs to be highlighted so the buyer knows he is getting more than just a used car. Also there is no harm in quoting a price higher than what you are likely to get as this makes way for some negotiation. So, once all the details are clear you can either put up a For Sale sign on your car or place a detailed advertisement in the paper or on the internet. But you must be patient and willing to spend time and energy in sorting through the applications you receive and meet the interested buyers before closing the deal. It also pays to spend a little in making the car look good and appealing, also get someone you know to drive it around. They just might spot that odd sound or something that was not right which you might have overlooked and that needs to be fixed. Apart from these keep all related documents on hand, and incase you don’t have the registration document, obtain a copy of the same before the sale is complete. And do check with the prospective buyer if he has a valid driver’s license and go along on the test drive. All this will put your mind at ease regarding the person and give you a chance to get to know them better; answering any queries he might have in the process.

    Those expensive luxury cars

Luxury cars have become very popular over the last ten years. More and more people are looking to show others around them how much money they have. They are interested in showing people that they are high class, and that they can drive one of the best looking and most expensive cars available. Luxury car makers have been cashing in on this trend as well. They have been producing as many different models that they can in order to accommodate the needs of anybody who may want to buy a luxury car. Entry level luxury cars are also popular nowadays. Instead of completely splurging for the top of the line car, more and more people are buying the entry level model that offers just as much comfort and convenience but for a lot less money. Almost every luxury car manufacturer offers an entry level car, and it has been helping them cash in as of late. But there will always be the market for people who want the top of the line car. This is the car that is better than any other car on the road. These cars can cost upwards of $50,000 and are only driven by the most elite people. These cars are also the favorites of celebrities and athletes. This is one reason that so many people want luxury cars. They want to be just like the athlete or celebrity that they look up to. In a way the entry level luxury class cars give that taste of success while quietly padding the pockets of the vehicle manufacturing company. If you are in the market for a luxury car be sure to do your homework first. There are tons of offerings and you want to make sure you get things right if you are going to be spending that much money on a new car. Research can be done via the internet in a relatively quick amount of time. Never make a decision on a new car without first researching its strengths and weaknesses, as well as the deals being offered at the time of the purchase by other companies.

Thoughts on a challenging custom car audio job

Could a car owner have custom car audio added to a vehicle with “lambo doors”? That question has popped into the head of a freelance writer in California. The writer has previously witnessed all of the operations involved in the process of adding custom car audio to a Jeep Cherokee. Now she has learned that car owners are being encouraged to get Lamborghini-like doors. That freelance writer hesitates to imagine what she may next find in her driveway. In November of 2005 the writer found two young adult males using her driveway as the site for the addition of custom car audio. One of those two lads had taken a course on auto mechanics with the former instructor at Culver City High School, a school close to Sony studios. He had agreed to share his knowledge with the writer’s son. Hence, the two of them had commenced the long process required to complete a custom car audio job. At one point the writer’s son called to his mother and invited her to come outside and to see for herself what her son and his friend were doing. What that writer saw was two car doors with the “stuffing” pulled out of them. The quest for a custom car audio system had led those two young men to place speakers in the doors of the Jeep Cherokee. The two “stereo specialists” did not show the writer how they had wired the speakers to the power source and to the amplifier. Their failure to grant the writer a look at their wiring operations has caused that writer to now ponder on a particular question: Could a vehicle with car speakers in the doors also have “lambo doors”? In other words, could a car owner who enjoyed the sound delivered by custom car audio logically expect to add “lambo doors” to that same car? The writer has seen pictures that show how the “lambo doors” swing upward, instead of swinging out. Wiring speakers into such doors would seem to present a real challenge. Could one have custom car audio in a car with such doors? One writer in California wants to know.

Through the centuries with the buick century

: Under the umbrella of the General Motors, the Buick Motor Division is very much responsible for the Buick Century. This model of vehicles is a line of full size performance vehicles that had ran from 1936 to 1942 as well as in 1954 to 1958. The vehicle brand, Buick, also used the name Buick Century in 1973 to 2004 for its value-added intermediate line of cars. The very first time that the Buick Century made its way on the automotive jungle, this vehicle actually took the place and niche of the Buick Series 60. This happened when the Buick division decided to rename the whole model line up for the 1936 model year. This was due to the celebration of engineering improvements and design advancements. What actually happened to the Buick Century was that it was a combination and concoction of the shorter Buick Special bodies’ wheelbase to the Buick’s engine that holds eight cylinders. During this era, the Buick Century was actually the fastest in its brand line up. It was capable of performing under sustained speeds. Because of this fact, the vehicle was dubbed as the “banker’s hotrod”. The most recent Buick Century has been constructed to be a midsize sedan. It sports the look that has been compared to an elegant maiden that has beautiful features wrapped in fine simplicity which is a very uplifting description indeed. The Buick Century exudes also a look that says elegance and sophistication. It certainly is one vehicle that stands out from among its competitors. Its ride quality is very much outstanding. It provides a very soft, smooth and quiet performance. And through all these, it also gives its driver and its passenger’s utmost and great care, comfort, and convenience during the ride. Before any great changes were done, the Buick Century came simply with a longer intermediate front wheel drive system. It also was offered as a couple, sedan, and station wagon although the latter was crossed out from the list later on. It holds grilles, turn signals, airbags for the driver’s side, body colored rub strips, a traction control, a tire inflation monitor, suspension, and side moldings. It also previously held a V6 engine with engine coolant that was guaranteed to last for five years. This vehicle is mostly appealing to people who are more leaning towards old-fashioned bench seats. It also is a good means of transportation for it has the capacity to take in a maximum of six adults in its cabin. It also holds the typical Buick luxury plus some added features like a keyless entry system, a dual zone climate control, programmable door locks, as well as a CD player. Rumors have it that the Buick Century is nearing another complete overhaul. To preserve the amazing performance and luxury of the Buick Century as well as other Buick vehicles, a one of a kind online store is able to provide customers with super durable Buick parts with an equally impressive performance. Interested parties can simply visit Auto Accessories Giant. It is a hassle free online store for shopping for auto parts that will make the Buick Century live up to its name.

    Time to change batteries

One of the major components of your car is the battery. Imagine just how your car would start if it had no battery. Well, your car would actually not start without a battery and this simply goes to illustrate just how important this part is. It is your car’s main power source. Your car’s battery actually functions to supply electric energy to your starter motor as well as the ignition system. These two mentioned parts are found in your vehicle’s engine. However, the life of batteries do not last that long. If you do pick a quality one, you might be able to have it for around 60 months, that is if you use it properly. Otherwise, you might be only able to use it for less than that amount of time. Now, if you do have a battery that just would not function anymore, then it is time to replace it. In just a couple of steps, you can do this thing yourself and you need not ask for assistance or service from any mechanic or auto center personnel. However, keep in mind that a car’s battery has corrosive elements that could be harmful to you and your car so be careful when changing your car’s battery. You should be able to start the whole scheme by turning your car’s engine off and locating the battery under the hood. To detach the negative battery cable, which is the black one, from the battery, you should first loosen the nut using a combination wrench. After doing such, twist it and pull up on the end of the cable with your hand. If your battery has been there long enough, there might be some need for you to provided greater force and pry the cable end loose using a screwdriver. Do the same steps in removing the positive cable which is the red one. Remove the battery hold-down clamp with the assistance of a combination wrench. You can also use a socket and a ratchet for this task. Then, your battery should be loose by this time so you can now take it out of the tray. Be sure to grab them firmly from the bottom for they can be quite heavy. When the battery has been removed, check the battery tray and hold-down clamp. If there are any signs of corrosion and dirt, clean them up first. You can use water as well as a wire brush to make it clean. You should also clean the battery cable connectors. With everything clean, it is now time to put in the new battery. Put the new one in the tray and secure using the clamp. Attach and tighten the battery cables and make sure that you attach the positive ends first followed by the negative ones. Before putting down the hood, check first if all the connections are tight. Remember that loose connections equate to your car not starting.

    Time to pump some gas

Is your fuel indicator in your dashboard informing and signaling you that it needs a little refilling? Is it telling you that its reserve of fuel has already gone low? Well, if it is, then it is them time to drive off to a gasoline station for some refueling. Of course, not all gasoline stations have attendants who would do all the refilling for you. There are some stations that are self-service. This means that you would have to do the pumping for gas on your own. Refilling your own gas for your car is simple and easy. There is no need to worry about it. You should first figure out which side of your car holds the key to your gas tank. And when you have done so, you should be able to park your car where the fill spout is facing the pump where you would be getting your gas. The logic behind this is very simple: it would not be difficult to refill your gas tank this way. When you have parked your car with the fill spout right in front of the gas pump, it is time to turn off your car’s engine and get out of your car. You should open your gas tank door. Some cars’ tank doors can be opened with a button from the inside of your car. However, there are also some that can be opened with a key. When you have successfully opened it, you should unscrew the cap of the gas tank. Then, pay for the gas. If you are paying with a credit card, you can simply run the card through the machine. If not, you would have to see the attendant first. When you have done so, then follow the printed instructions which are usually found posted near the machine. Then select the type of gas that you would be filling up for your vehicle. Make sure you know what kind of fuel your car runs on. Then lift the handle of the gas off and insert it into the gas tank. Push it in firmly so that it is secure and that no gas could escape. Then, you can start filling in your gas. Once filled up, it is time to put the gas tank cap back in.

    Timing belt automotive repair tips

One of the most overlooked parts of a vehicle, and one of the most common automotive repairs is the timing belt. Your car’s timing belt may look like an accessory, but the fact is that if it fails, your car will suddenly stop, and, if you’re lucky, you will find yourself stranded on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck. Timing belts are typically made of nylon reinforced rubber, with square teeth located on the inside surface. While you drive, the belt transfers the rotation of the crankshaft the camshaft, which in turn activates the valves that provide air and fuel to the cylinders and expel combustion gases to the exhaust system. Inside your car, the valves and pistons move up and down rapidly, and most engines are not built to allow clearance between a valve that is down and a piston that is up and this is where the timing belt comes in, since it is what keeps the valves and pistons for colliding. If your timing belt fails, and a collision occurs, the damage to the cylinder head, cylinder walls, valves, and pistons can be extensive, and expensive, as well. During an automotive repair, the timing belt is often overlooked, since they are typically protected by a cover, and a quick visual inspection isn’t a possibility. Over the past several years, cars have been built to rely on a timing chain as opposed to a belt. While these are typically longer lasting, they operate on essentially the same principal, and require replacement and maintenance, which varies by car. Typically, you can expect to have to replace your timing belt or chain every 60,000 to 90,000 miles. Replacing a timing belt or chain requires the removal of the engine drive belt, the component responsible for operating the alternator, water pump, power steering pump, and air conditioner. When you visit your mechanic, be sure to ask them about how often the timing belt or chain on your car should be replaced. Your vehicle’s owners manual will also be able to provide guidelines as to timing belt replacement and maintenance. Remember, the care you take of your car today ensures its continued health, and your safety while on the road. Automotive repair problems, if caught early, are less expensive and require less time to repair than those that are overlooked in the initial stages. Doing a good job with preliminary care and maintenance can really help your automobile to go along way.

Tinted windows offer protection from the sun s rays

Tinted windows of vehicles are, for some people, the best way to go. However, there is more to tinted windows than what meets the eye. When windows are tinted, they also offer protection from the harmful rays of the sun. For most vehicles though, this is just an added option. A Ford vehicle’s window, or any vehicle’s window for that matter, could be tinted through the application of a specially designed film which is constructed to be thin. It is applied on the inside of the windows. If you want to have tinted windows, you can do so with some assistance from businesses and companies who offer such a service. However, it would be wise to know that there still are rules and regulations in the US with regards to tinting windows and it should be specifically a minimum of 70 percent visible light transmission for both the windshield and the windows. So how do you tint a window? It would be best for you to start scouting for a shop, business, or company that has skilled and professional workers who could do the job well. If you have no idea as per where you can find a good window tinting service, you can ask your fellow drivers, your friends, or even your car dealer for assistance. They might have some ideas on this. Once you have a list of those shops, start visiting them and ask for appraisals. That way, you would know just how much you would be needing to have your windows tinted. At the same time, try to keep an eye on the facilities to see if everything is clean and orderly. Ask for their range of tints so you could actually know that you have tints to choose from. Also ask if the shop is a member of the International Window Film Association. After comparing everything, be sure that you select the shop that you find as the most comfortable and the shop that you think would give your vehicle a good service. Tinted windows do have their benefits. For some people, it is more of just adding a sportier appeal. However, studies have concluded that tinted windows assist in reducing the glare of the suns rays and in the process helps prevent eye fatigue. It also keeps the car and the occupants inside cooler. The interior of the car is also protected from damage and the colors are blocked from fading much too quickly.

Tips for buying a used car

Buying a car is one of the largest investments many people make in their lives-and more and more, people are bypassing new cars for used models. In fact, used cars have become big business in the U. S. and today, consumers have choices that stretch beyond the big lots and dealerships. Just remember that when you're buying a car-new or used-it's important to get the facts first. Doing so can help you be more certain you're actually getting the car you want at the price that's right. "Buyers should be sure to consider all the angles-from mileage, model and vehicle history, to warranties and financing," says Brad Eggleston of AutoVantage. Here's how to protect yourself: • Check out the model's repair record, maintenance costs, and safety and mileage ratings in consumer magazines or online. Check the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration's Web site ( nhtsa. dot. gov) to see if the car you are considering has any recalls associated with it. • Get a vehicle history report from Experian Automotive ( autocheck). It's a cheap way to ensure you're not the victim of odometer fraud and that the car wasn't in a fire, flood or accident. • Dealers are required by the Federal Trade Commission to post a Buyer's Guide in every used vehicle offered for sale. Read it. This guide provides important information about the car and always overrules your sales contract. • Consult the Kelley Blue Book to learn what a car is worth before going to the negotiating table. Be prepared to bargain for the best deal on your car. Also, visit a qualified mechanic for an automotive diagnostic and inspection before buying. Check the Car Care Council's Web site ( carcarecouncil. org) to find certified mechanics. • Take a serious test drive. Test the acceleration and give the brakes a workout. Make sure the steering wheel doesn't wander from left to right or shake. Drive up and down hills, down highways and through stop-and-go traffic. • When financing, beware of advertisements offering tempting deals to folks with bad credit or first-time buyers. Find out the exact price you're paying for the vehicle, the amount you're financing, the finance charge, the APR and how many payments you're up against.
