I have a question, and if anyone is able to answer it I would really appreciate it. I am confused about this whole plus size clothing thing on a couple different levels. First of all what chauvinist male came up with that name? Plus size just sounds so unflattering. Men don’t have plus size clothing sections. No they just have bigger sizes. Or they can go to stores like Big and Tall. Just once I would like to see a plus sizes sign hanging over the men’s section of the store. Second exactly who and what determined what size constitutes a plus size? Does it vary from store to store? I honestly think someone just sat down one day and arbitrarily said anything over this size will be considered a plus size, and who cares about the women who have to shop in that section. I always thought the whole thing was a little humiliating. I mean most people are not proud of being on the larger side, but to have a whole different section of the store set aside with a big side hanging over it declaring you to be overweight must be humiliating. The entire situation is only worsened by that fact that there seems to be a distinct lack of cute fashionable plus size clothing. So not only do you have to shop under a large sign declaring you to be overweight, but you also have to look over at the smaller section and realize how much cuter all those clothes are. Mostly it seems unfair. Now don’t get me wrong there are a few good stores that have nice plus size clothing. Lane Bryant is one for example that has some really nice stuff, however the majority of stuff I see out there looks at least 5 years old and not like something anyone would be rushing to buy.

The Plus size fashion industry is going well. Profits have been rolling in for retailers catering to plus size persons. This is because America’s adults are growing not only in number but also in size. The average size is in fact already nearing the plus size, which is size 14. Moreover, customers pay more for plus sizes because they go on sale less often. More existing clothing lines have added larger sizes to their racks. Some of which are Wal-mart, K-mart and Old Navy. Retailers have recognized that for the past years there have been few clothing lines that cater to the larger people. The additional sizes have been great for the retailers because of the increased profit. The plus size business is doing well. Many shops like Liz Clairborne Inc. launched plus size boutiques to expand their market. According to research, plus size women are very loyal to the labels they wear. This is the reason why the plus size market is very much lucrative at the moment. The thought of being a plus size woman before created social stigma. It was then when fat would equal to ugly. Today, plus sizes are considered sexy, sultry, and stylish. Dress Barn, and Daisy Fuentes has also noticed how much profits has increased during the past years once they added plus sizes to their racks. Fuentes expresses that its for the sake of just designing plus sizes but she emphasizes that she wants to make sure that they look and feel right for the customer and flattering as well. Each year, more and more new labels arise to provide the plus size women more selections in terms of fashion. Plus size women should worry no more. Plus size clothing stores are not only found in your local mall or streets. Plus size fashion as also dominated the world of online shopping. There are many online retailers that would like to serve the plus size market. They offer a wide array of clothes and accessories to matcht the plus size woman. They also provide fashion tips. These tips would guide the woman on what to wear that would both hide the problem areas and flaunt those sexy curves. Since the customers do not have the chance to fit the clothes they shop for online, many online stores deviced size charts. These charts serve as a guide for the plus size woman. Furthermore, they also provide for ways to measure their size accurately. Sometimes, even some sites provide body analysis for more precise measurements. Women of any size, of course, just want to look their best. They may be a super skinny or perhaps in a large frame, but it is no excuse not to be stylish and sexy. The identity of the plus size has changed. Plus size fashion has spread its wings across the market. In fact, it is dominating the business industry. Plus size clothing stores provides the plus size women with the needed variety in their clothing. To be plus size is no longer ackward in the eyes of many. Social norms have changed in the past years. The women of the world, no matter what size have equal opportunities. The same goes with fashion statement. So what exactly is a cocktail dress? My mom tells me that a cocktail dress I one that ends around your knees as opposed to being full length. But does it count if it hits mid calf? I have always been confused on this. My mom calls anything around your calf tea length but I think she made this up a long time ago. Or her mom made it up and she just stuck with it. I looked up cocktail dresses on the internet and they seem to be in all shapes and sizes, they just aren’t full length gowns. There is a wide array of things available out there. Cocktail dresses for garden parties, some more appropriate for weddings. I think the word cocktail dress encompasses a lot. I even found websites devoted solely to plus size cocktail dresses, or so they claimed. I was intrigued when I saw these sites claiming to be devoted solely to plus sizes so I investigated. The do have some very nice things; however you can understand my confusion when I see that half of the models are stick thin. This sight says it caters to plus sizes, leading you to believe that the dresses are for larger women. But then you look at the dress and the girl wearing it can’t weigh more than 110 pounds. I admit I am not exactly sure what constitutes a plus size but I am pretty sure it is not a size two. For some reason I finds this kind of angers me. The culture in the US is one that makes 12 year old girls anorexic and puts 8 year olds on diets. I feel this situation is just another example of what is wrong with our society. A girl goes on a site claiming to cater to people wearing here size, and of course wants to see what the dress will look like on someone like her, only to be confronted with a thin lizzy string back at her. Well I wonder how that makes her feel?
So what is the big event? Do you need a cocktail dress for a company party? Maybe you need a pretty summer dress for a wedding? How about a gorgeous ball gown for a black tie benefit? No matter what the occasion shopping for appropriate evening wear is always a challenge. You can spend all day in every mall within an hour of your house and feel as if you are never going to find the right outfit, dress, or whatever it is you need. Finding the right plus size evening wear can be even more challenging. The selection is more limited and the dresses always seem to be so much less attractive. I have looked at some of this stuff and wondered what the designers were thinking when they allowed their dresses to be made in such large sizes. I mean everyone knows that a style and or pattern that looks good on a 5’4” woman who weights 110 pounds is not going to look as good on a woman that wears a much bigger size. Ruffles around the hips and chest are not good things for larger people unless of course they are interested in looking as large as possible. Every time I go to an event I see an unfortunate soul wearing something that would be terribly trendy on a much smaller woman but does nothing but show the larger woman at a severe disadvantage. I mean we all want to look our best right? Especially when we are at large functions. So why is it that there seems to be such a lack or beautiful plus size evening wear? Not to sound insensitive but it isn’t exactly like the United States is lacking in plus size people. You would think there would be more clothes designed to cater to them.
Okay so we have all seen the fashion shows on TV, or the pictures from them in the magazines and thought about how unbelievably and unnaturally thin the models are. Personally I find it very depressing. I look at these beautiful clothes on these beautiful girls and know that even if I had the money to buy the clothes, they would never look like that on me. I am not a large girl and actually wear a fairly small size, but I still find the fashion industry massively depressing. This made me wonder for a while about plus size women and their fashion. I mean they must have the same types of thoughts right? Well now they have their own plus size fashion industry. I have seen some of the shows and the models, and these are beautiful women and beautiful clothes. I mean there are beautiful larger women that make their living as models, defying all the stereotypes that society has set about that bigger women aren’t as beautiful as thin women. Now I do have to say though, that while I admire this fashion industry that has sprung up, I am a little confused as to where the designs are being implemented. I mean for other clothes the designers prance them out and then other smaller companies start imitating the styles and soon a new trend starts and they are available in all the stores. However, I have yet to really see this in the plus size fashion world. It still seems as though there is a lack of beautiful clothes for plus size women. I would really like see more stores and boutiques built around these fashions out there for plus size women. I think it would help make people more proud of themselves and their bodies.
Just ten years ago plus size women were limited to clothes shopping in the two back corner racks of the local department store. We didn't have a lot of selection in style and fit and really--we didn't enjoy shopping for ourselves all that much. It's hard feeling good about a wardrobe full of cartoon character t-shirts and too short stretchy pants, and it was disappointing to shop for more of the same. Our choices in fashion were basic polyester stretch pants (remember those thick elastic waistbands ladies?), plain oversize t-shirts, and flowing, flowery polyester house dresses. Anything that was somewhat nice was stocked in limited quantities and at an exorbitant price. Ladies we felt & looked frumpy and dowdy because that's all we had to wear! Today however, full figured women can now enjoy trendy and comfortable fashions--at prices most can afford. And with easy online access, we are no longer limited to what the local department stores choose for us. We can choose from denims, cottons, silks & satins. Flower prints, stripes, solids and polka dots. Well fitted career wear, two piece bathing suits, short pants, long pants--the sky is the limit and we have more choices than ever before. Want to wear a fun, flirty skirt? Or a trendy tanktini on that fabulous beach holiday? No problem! It's just a click away online. Your biggest dilemma will be choosing just one item out of the three or four that have caught your eye. What a shift from ten years ago! Today taller plus size women can finally find those pants that fit both width AND length. And then there's petite plus size fashions for women who are shorter than average. We've got fashion selections now that fit all heights of fuller figured women--short, medium and tall. With online shopping, plus size fashion freedom has finally arrived for full figured women. Choose all the figure flattering and trendy styles you want and say goodbye forever to frumpy and dowdy. It's time for us to shine like the beautiful women we truly are.
America's plus size community is expanding. Studies show that the average dress size in the United States is already size 14. Furthermore, according to a research company, the sales of the plus-size women's clothes increased by 7 percent. These are evidences that the population of the plus sized people are indeed growing. To remove the idea that skinny is the only way to be beautiful, there are have been many fashionable clothes that are made for the plus size person. Plus size clothes no longer hang in the end of the rack but are a whole new category of clothes. Indeed, a perfect 10 is not needed to sport the latest trends in fashion. Clothes for plus size people are differently designed. These target the possible problem areas that a typical plus size people may encounter. Here are some reminders to keep up with the plus size fashion • Keep accessories near the neck and sleeves. Scarves and stoles have worked wonders in the whole outfit. These divert attention from flabby arms and/or broad shoulders. For an illusion of slimness, wrap it around or across your shoulders. • Do not highlight the problem areas (arm, hips and waist) with bold prints, bright colors and accessories. Horizontal stripes are not recommended if they are thick because they will only make you look wider. Thin horizontal stripes are fine because from a far they seem to look like a solid color. NOTE: color and pattern are not as essential as shape and fit. • Embroidery is suggested to be near the skirt hemline. Cover the hips, if it is a problem area, with long tops • Tops should slightly clingy to the waist to provide a slimming look. However, it shouldn't be too clingy or too loose either. Never wear anything that would make you look like that you are wearing a tent. Wide necklines are suggested. * Choose fabrics that fit great and give structure. Fabrics that cling at the problem areas are of course not recommended. Heavier fabrics and heavier weight cotton are the ones suggested for plus size women. These fabric controls the body shape rather than body shape the clothes. * Choosing the right hairstyle is also essential to prevent highlighting puffy cheeks and adding on a slimming illusion to your face Following these reminders may aid the average plus size person in choosing the right clothes and accessories for them. Here are some basic items that would look fabulous on those plus size women. 1. Wide-leg trousers. Be sure that it fitting on the your body's widest part and would just flow straight down. 2. V-neck tops. This kind of tops makes your neck look longer. Thus, making you look taller. 3. A-line skirts. This kind of skirt gives you the hourglass figure. It also goes great with a lot of other clothes. Today, plus size does not mean fat. It has already established its reputation in the fashion scene that it can be both sexy and sophisticated. In fact, more stores have added plus sizes in their racks to cater to more customers. Indeed, the plus size fashion skyrocketed in the market. Fashion has a great impact in ones society. Sometimes, we cannot escape that society would somehow dictate what looks good or not. However, with the right clothes and right attitude, your feeling gorgeous and sexy wouldn't be so hard in any size.
Formal dresses are fun. Everyone likes to get dressed up now and then. To feel beautiful and like you look your best. I even enjoy shopping for formal dresses, as much of a pain as it always turns out to be. I enjoy trying on dresses that are entirely too expensive for me to buy just to see what I look like n a $400 gown. There are some every beautiful dresses out there. I have a few stores I really enjoy and they are always the first places I go for formal dresses. There is a place in my hometown called Cache that just has some beautiful stuff, though most of it is too expensive. There is also a boutique in Ithaca, NY called Pookie and Sebastian’s. I have bought tow formal dresses there, and am still in love with both. Unfortunately they are sitting in my closet waiting for another occasion to be worn and I am terribly afraid that by the time I have another occasion to wear these dresses; I will be too old or overweight to pull them off. I also like to look at the formal dresses in the department stores just for fun when I go shopping. My friends and I oh and aw over the pretty ones and make fun of the ones that we are sure no one will ever buy. Now the one downfall to formal dresses is that they tend to be very expensive. The department stores are actually probably the best place to look for formal dresses if you are on a tight budget. They also have the benefit that most of them also have plus size formal dresses, whereas many of the boutiques and smaller stores do not stock them for some reason. To me this seems a little unfair but I am sure they have their reasons. I personally can never find anything in the department stores but others seem to have a lot of success, especially if you are looking for a plus size formal dress, or do not have much money to spend.
Formal wear is hard to find in the first place. It is hard to know what is appropriate for which kind of occasion. Do you wear a long dress or a short dress? Do you make your husband wear a suit or a sport jacket and slacks? What exactly is considered a formal occasion anyway? This is a headache we have all had a one point in time, but if you are in need of plus size clothing this might be an even larger headache for you as it is even harder to find good plus size formal wear. Well I have some good news for you. There is actually a pretty large selection of plus size formal wear on the internet. Now I know it is hard to buy on the internet as you don’t know how the clothes will fit, how the color ill look, etc. however, I have another suggestion. I would use the internet as a resource to decide what kind of outfit you are looking for. There are actually a few really good plus size website devoted almost entirely to formal wear. It would seem that at least some people realized there was a market out there to take advantage of. Now look on the internet and you will find that there are actually some very nice flattering things for larger women. These pictures can be used a good templates to take with you when you go to the stores to look. If you are a lot braver than me you can even just order the dresses online and then have any alternations made at home after you get the dress. I have to say I was surprised; there are some very nice things on these sites. I think that more women need to be made aware of what is out there.
I never really see that many pairs of plus size jeans out there when I am shopping. However I see women wearing plus size jeans. I have to say this has always confused me and made me wonder where these people shop. I mean I see the small plus size sections in the department stores but they aren’t exactly over run with plus size jeans; to be honest al lot of the stuff I see in those sections is spandex, as stereotypical as that sounds. Actually I believe most of the plus size jeans I have seen are spandex. The plus size jeans I seen on women around the city are for the most part fairly trendy, which is more than I can say for a lot of the plus size clothing I see floating around out there and this aroused my curiosity even more. Do to this curiosity about the location of these plus size jean sources, I looked for some on the internet and it appears there are actually a lot of resources there. However I have always been a little skeptical abut ordering jeans and clothing over the internet. It makes me nervous to order something without knowing what it is going to look like when it is on. I know you can return most of these items but with the mail, and the shipping, and the refunds, it just seems like more of a hassle than it is worth. However maybe this is a huge resource I have been missing out on. Maybe a lot of this shopping that has been going on in the plus size jean market is happening online; I sure don’t see the stores in the mall. However I will admit it is not something I have looked into extensively but have only noticed in passing, there is a good possibility I am failing to notice the true source of the industry.
A woman’s closet would be incomplete if it lacks her favorite lingerie. Lingerie for most women spells out fun, sexy and nice. For some, it is even worth spending some extra dollars for. However, frustrations come from plus size women because they feel lingerie is something not for them. For some of them lingerie shopping may seem hard. Reality is shopping for lingerie is not as easy as picking a kilo of salt in the supermarket, for a woman of any size. Eighty-five percent of women do not wear the right bra size for their body. For plus size women, this problem is more emphasized. Have your bra size measured when going to a lingerie store so that you would be sure you are wearing the bra with the right cup size and length of the strap. Furthermore, bring some of your tops that differ in their fit in you to try them on over your bra. NOTE: An ill-fitting bra could make you look heavier or fatter. Consider the fit of the underband, cup and length of the strap. The underband shold support your breasts. The cup should be the right fit. The length of the strap should be appropriate for your body’s shape and not exert any pressure on your breasts. Bras with underwire provide the best support, especially for women with big breasts. However, this seems uncomfortable sometimes. Thus, look for a bra with a flat and paddedd underwire. It is important to wear good bras because bad bras may cause tearing of breast tissue. This would cause the sagging of your breasts. Thus, buy bras, which provide good support for your breasts. Other types of underwear have also been tailored for the plus size woman. A perfect ten body is not needed to get a way with wearing sexy lingerie. Usually, an average plus size woman would also have sexy curves other than the bulges she notices. Choosing the right lingerie would hide the bulges and emphasize the curves at the right places. There are many online retailers hat cater to plus size women. If you’re embarrassed to shop for lingerie in the mall, there are many choices online. Retailers provide size charts and guides on how to measure so that the lingeire you’re ordering would be the perfect fit. The advent of plus size fashion has made shopping for these women easier. More stores have expanded their size range. Furthermore, more labels now cater to plus size women. Plus size lingerie does not escape this trend. Lingerie for these women has been designed to fit their very need. Plus size lingerie has been tailored to emphasize the woman’s best features. This line for full figured bodies usually includes corsets and bustiers that stress the stunning curves of the women. Another plus factor of the world of the plus size lingerie is that designers made the materials that still looks sleek, lacy and dellicate and at the same time would still provide the best support and is still comfortable. A good store would provide suggestions on what particular type of lingerie would best suit the client’s body type. Lingeire makes a woman feel that she is more sensual, sultry and sexy. It even boosts self-confidence for some. No longer does beautiful, gorgeous, or sexy pertain to only the skinny people. Plus size women have defied the social norms and created the look that would suit their body type.
