Hot gadgets holiday must haves for 2007

Each summer, consumer electronics gurus peer into their crystal balls to anticipate what hot gadgets will be considered must-haves for the upcoming holiday season. This year, those electronics taking center stage consist of some no-brainers as well as a few surprises. They're fun, they're innovative, and they're sure to be sold out by the end of November. Here's a preview of the hot gadgets that will be in the news and on almost everyone's holiday wish list: 1. Apple iPhone. Steve Jobs has done it again and designed a totally innovative device that's so much more than a mobile phone. With a gorgeous appearance, a bright three-and-a-half inch display, and an intuitive touchscreen user interface, the iPhone is captivating. And that's before you even get to the features, which include an exceptional cell phone with visual voicemail, a digital camera, email functionality, a web browser, an iPod for music, and SMS. The applications, such as Google maps, stocks, weather, notes, and so forth, are just as impressive. As is the $500 price tag. Nonetheless, the iPhone is sure to top many holiday wish lists. 2. i-Sing from Outrageous. Consumer electronics and toy company Outrageous has taken the "American Idol" phenomenon to the logical step with i-Sing, a specialized MP3 player that is, for lack of a better term, a next generation handheld karaoke machine. After buying MP3 downloads, users can load them into the player, then use proprietary software to input the lyrics of the songs - either the original lyrics or those written by the user. Users can then easily remove the original vocals from a song and record their own voices over the melodies while reading a display of the lyrics. With an internal speaker and microphone, as well as a high quality display and earphones, i-Sing can be used to create music that users can then upload to YouTube, MySpace, and other social networking sites. And, at around $129, i-Sing is a sure-fire hit. 3. Nintendo Wii. Although the Nintendo Wii gaming console has been out for almost a year, its scarcity will still make it a hot commodity this holiday season - and for good reason. With its innovative controller and Nunchuk, Wii has taken gaming to the next level. But the Wii is much more than a gaming console. It also offers Web browsing, shopping, photo sharing, news, and much more. Now that the use of the system is ramping up, there are an increasing number of video games available for the Wii - which will also be hot this holiday season. Each year, several hot gadgets emerge as top sellers for the holiday season. This year, you can bet that the iPhone, i-Sing, and Wii will make the cut.

    How electronic air cleaners work

Electronic air cleaners clean the air without a filter. Most contain a collection grid to attract the impurities. These must be cleaned regularly. You can purchase these systems to clean one room at a time or have a whole house system installed to keep every room clean. As the air passes through the machine, it is given an electrical charge. This also charges the impurities in the air. The charged particles are then attracted to an oppositely charged collection grid, which acts as a magnet for the particles. Some have no collection grid. In this case, the particles attach to the walls, floors and furniture in your home. These must be removed by dusting or vacuuming the room. For the system to work properly, the collection grid must be kept clean. This is easy to do with a damp rag. If your home is very dusty or you have pets, you will need to clean the grid frequently, possibly several times each week. If it isn’t kept clean, the grid will stop attracting the particles and won’t clean the air in your home. A separate pre filter on the system can help reduce the amount of impurities on the collection grid. The pre filter removes larger particles. This helps reduce the amount of particles that become attached to the collection grid and you won’t need to clean it as often. The pre filter must be changed regularly to keep it working properly. You will have the added expense of purchasing replacement filters. Types of Electronic Air Cleaners Whole House Air Cleaners Whole house air cleaners can be installed on your forced air heating system. You will need to hire a heating contractor to install the system. Whole house systems help clean the air in every room of your home. A large collection grid attracts the impurities in your home. You will need to clean the grid frequently to keep it working properly. Portable Units Portable units are sold online or in home appliance stores. These are intended to be used in one area of the home at a time. You can purchase more than one, or move the unit from room to room throughout the day. Products are labelled according to the square footage they cover. Make sure the one you are using is sufficient for the area where it is being used. One that is too small won’t be effective. On the other hand, if it’s too large, you will have a high level of ozone in your house. Negative Ion Generators Negative ion generators have no collection grid. The walls, furniture and other surfaces of your home become the collection grid. You will notice a film on your furnishings and may see soot like film on the walls. This will need to be cleaned away by dusting or vacuuming. Safe Use of Electronic Air Cleaners This type of air cleaner has come under fire recently, due to the ozone that is produced as a by product of the electrostatic process. Ozone is considered a pollutant and high levels of ozone in the air in your home can be an irritant. It is particularly a problem for people who suffer from asthma or other respiratory or lung disorders. To reduce the risk associated with ozone, consider running the air cleaner when the room is not in use. For example, run the system in your bedroom in the early evening. Turn it off about an hour or so before you plan to go to sleep. Run the machine in the kitchen or other living areas at night and turn it off first thing in the morning. This will allow the ozone in the air to dissipate before you enter the room. If your system has a high and low setting, run it on the low setting. If odor is a problem, run it on high when the room is empty and air out the room before you enter it. When the room is occupied, use only the low setting. A separate hepa filtration system can help remove some of the excess ozone in the air.

How to buy brand name gadgets for bargains on the dollar

Don't you love gadgets, especially the new finagled ones. If you are like me and you strive to take ownership of the latest and greatest, then this article is for you - because I will save you a bunch of money which can then be safely applied to ... even more gadgets. From satellite receivers to universal remotes, there is a constant barrage of new releases. Now any self respecting gadget addict will understand that yesterdays gizmo's is destined for the trash heap as soon as release 3.0 hits the streets. Of course for the savvy shopper release 2.0 offers unique buying opportunities. Purchasing the one generation before often yields even more fun and stimulation. Since bugs have been removed, geeky hacks have been introduced and generally you can have more fun and be rather more ruthless with the little device. Now a market exists for both state of the generation and one, two and even three back versions. Its eBay of course that I am referring too. With a large volume of most electronics being traded everyday, this is the ideal near efficient market. One can study the dynamics of this micro-market and determine some useful buying rules. With a little more information than the rest of the marketplace, one can almost certainly make some intelligent buying opportunities. This article focuses on how to identify these gaps and often purchase many electronic gadgets for 20-100% below retail. This article should be read together with my longer piece and a web site, which produces the information required to identify buying nuggets. Find the links and URLs to these two sites at the bottom of this article. There exists a little web site that polls data from eBay throughout the day. Now what makes this different you may ask? Well firstly it only focuses on well know in demand electronic gadgets. On the left panel you will find categories for things like Wide screen Notebooks, Digital Cameras, Simple Surround Sound, XBOX 360, Apple iPOod Tunes Video, HDTV, ESPN Phone, etc. etc. There is one more aspect that makes this site useful. That is it holds information that is often more difficult for the buyer to obtain. With this information in hand buyers can often make more informed and better decisions and therefore avoid bidding wars and outsmart other bidders to a high degree. Most information on eBay focuses on the selling element, i. e. how to sell your clubs. I have tended to specialize on the buying end and trying to identify market opportunities and price in-efficiencies to really capture excellent deals. To do this we need to understand the dynamics of the eBay market place. Like any other market it is supply demand driven, and like a large flee-market if a buyer has knowledge of how many items are for sale at what prices and how many other buyers are in the market, then that buyer can capture the upper hand. Lets focus a little more on supply. The eBay supply dynamic is a little different in that supply of an item must be seen at a point in time. In other words, because auctions end at different times, one needs to grasp the number of auctions ending in close proximity for the same item. This gives you a feel for the supply of items or in our case cameras. What makes this interesting is that today there could be a large amount of auctions ending for a particular model, but next week there could be very few. This is one element driving the price. The demand side is slightly more complex and hidden from the average eBay buyer. This is where that the web site I refer to at below has some useful data. Demand in eBay terms is measured (by sellers) as a number of factors - how many people view my auction, how many people ask questions, how many people place me on their watch page, and how many people actually bid. Obviously as we progress down this list the data become more reliable as an indication of demand. Page views are not easy to obtain, although some sellers place a publicly viewable counter on their auction pages. Questions and watchers are available to sellers, and the special web site mentioned below will expose this information. Number of bids is available for all to see. Now if we happened to produce a graph as the auction progresses of the changes in the number of questions, watchers and bids one can easily see how the demand is changing as time progresses. Typically if questions are high and watchers are high, but bids are low, this may indicate some confusion (for example a spelling mistake in a model number) and a possible buy opportunity. If watchers are very high and climbing, but bids are low, this can point to a last minute bidding war, and a stay out indicator. Armed with this information and also a quick summary of other similar auctions ending soon, plus a quick feel for the skill set of the seller and the current highest bidder, one can see a picture very different from the average eBay buyer. Soon the trained eye will observe some nice buying opportunities. Electronics gadget nut cases like me, relish the opportunity to get a one up on our fellow buyers. Look carefully at the data presented, after a little practice opportunities will leap out at you. The premise is simple, a buyer with more market information will always pay lower prices than the rest of the market. In stock market terms it caller insider trading, and its illegal. In our case its quite above board and simply assists you in better understanding the supply demand curve for that yummy flat panel TV you had you eye on last Christmas.

How to buy the best radar detector

What is the best radar detector I can buy for my car? There are many different ways to buy the best radar detector that will satisfy your needs. In this article, I will be sharing 7 steps I use for buying the best radar detector. Here are the 7 steps to know you are buying the best radar detector. 1. Find out if a detector is legal in your state. Before you start your radar detector research, find out if a detector is legal in your state. It is important to know your local and state laws regarding radar detectors before you buy. You could be facing fines for an illegal detector. You also could get your detector confiscated. Radar detectors are illegal in the District of Columbia and Virginia. Radar detectors are also illegal in most provinces in Canada and U. S military bases. Radar detectors are illegal in commercial vehicles in most areas. The best way to know if radar detectors are legal in your area is to go to your state's department of motor vehicle website or call your local law enforcement. 2. Determine your budget. There are a lot of radar detectors now on the market with a lot features. They range in price from $50 to more than $400. Figure out what you can reasonably afford for a radar detector. Remember, the most expensive detector is not always the best radar detector. 3. Determine the type of radar detector you want to buy. There are three types of radar detectors: corded radar detectors, cordless radar detectors, and remote-mount radar detectors. Corded radar detectors are usually mounted on the windshield in the vicinity of your rear view mirror, and offer the best range of detection. Cordless radar detectors are easily more transportable and are easier to install than corded radar detectors. Remote-mounted radar detectors are permanently mounted to your vehicle and are virtually undetectable to thieves. 4. Identify the model and features you want. There are a lot of radar detector models on the market. Stick with the major brand name radar detector manufacturers such as Beltronics, Cobra, Escort, PNI, Rocky Mountain Radar, Valentine and Whistler. There are a lot of radar detectors on the market with a lot features. You've got range, sensitivity, visual alerts, audio alerts, false alarm control, etc. With all these different features on the market, which one is best for you? The amount of features you get will depend on how much your budget is that you determined in Step 1. No matter what you budget is, you should look at radar detectors that have these basic features: > Select a radar detector with a wideband. The radar detector should be able to pick up the entire X, K, and Ka band. You want different indicators for each one of these bands that include a separate flash or beep for each band. > When shopping for radar detectors, look for radar detectors that have at least 110 dB. > Pay close attention to the display. Make sure you can see it clearly. > Also look for a mute feature with an adjustable volume control. 5. Research your radar detector. You know your budget, what bands you need to detect, the model brand names and the basic features. You now are ready to research your radar detector. There are many different websites that will allow you to compare different radar detector models, features, reviews, and prices. The trick is to find the best radar detector with the best features at the your price. Obviously, if you're spending 400 bucks for a radar detector, you are likely going to get more features and a better range that your radar detector can detect to than if you spend 100 bucks. 6. Buy and install your radar detector. When buying a radar detector, you need to decide if you're going to buy from an online store or from a general electronics store. After you buy your radar detector, you need to decide if you are going to install the unit yourself or have someone else install it. Some radar detector installations are as simple as plugging your unit into your cigarette lighter socket. Other radar detector installations can be as complex as having the entire vehicle wired throughout. Depending on your knowledge and the complexity of the job, you may need to get your radar detector professionally installed. A car audio store is an excellent place to have this work done. Radar detectors should be mounted on your windshield in a high position to give you the widest possible detection range. 7. Watch out for scams. As with any purchase, you need to watch out for scams. Deal with a honest, reputable supplier. Check out the warranty. If dealing on line...call the phone number to see if a real business does exist.

How to buy your first digital camera

If it is your first time to buy a digital camera and you are as yet just starting out your foray into digital photography, it is understandable for you to be a little baffled when choosing what to buy for your first digital camera. After all, if you are not so confused and if you already know what digital camera you should buy, then you would not be looking at an article such as this one. When starting out with digital photography, you need the best digital camera that is most suited to your level of expertise. Using a digital camera that is just right for you will guide you as you learn your way through the field of photography, as well as help you develop an appreciation for the art. The digital camera that you should use should be just right for you. Use a camera that is too advanced for you and you will only end up being frustrated, with the possibility of leading you to give up on photography. It is important that the camera you choose should just be right for you. How do you get to choose your first digital camera, the camera that is just right for you? It all depends on your reasons for wanting to learn photography and the amount of time and money you are willing to invest on such a tool. Below is a short guide on how you should pick your first digital camera. 1. Go for SLR digital cameras. When given the choice of whether to go for a point-and-shoot camera or an SLR digital camera, go for the SLR camera. An SLR camera is actually easier to manipulate than a point-and-shoot camera. It is also the better decision to make in case you are thinking of getting a point-and-shoot camera and then upgrade to SLR later on, simply because it is more cost effective. 2. Get a camera that you love. Beautiful pictures are created if there is a good relationship between the photographer and his digital camera. So, when you go out to buy a digital camera, buy something that you know you will love using, no matter how many years pass by. It is like a marriage – you would want your camera to be something that will grow old with you. 3. Go for the latest model. If you can afford it, buy the latest digital camera available. Buying the latest model is a better investment than buying an outmoded, secondhand camera. You are not sure if there are broken parts inside the secondhand camera, and if there are broken parts, it would actually cost more to have it repaired because old parts are harder to find than new ones. 4. Buy a spare memory card to go with your digital camera. You will never know when you need extra memory for your digital camera and it is impossible for you to transfer all the pictures in your camera to your computerpact flash cards are the best and the safest memory cards around that are suitable for your digital camera. You can also use SD cards, MMC cards and other types of memory cards as long as they are compatible with your camera. 5. Get batteries with a decent lifespan. Digital cameras are notorious for sucking battery juice very quickly. So you would not find yourself in the middle of a shoot with a dead camera, which can be very frustrating, get batteries that have a decent lifespan. Also, remember to recharge your batteries after using them and keep a few batteries to spare just in case you forget. 6. Your lenses and your shooting style. There are many different lenses designed for different shooting conditions. There are lenses for poor lighting and for shooting at night. There are lenses for capturing pictures on fast speeds. Get a set of lenses that will suit the kind of photography that you wish to develop and will be focusing on. 7. Megapixels count. Cameras with higher megapixels shoot pictures with higher resolutions, therefore of better quality. Pictures with higher resolutions are easy to play with, and you can reduce the size of these pictures without worrying about them being blurry. Go for a digital camera that has the highest megapixel rating that you can afford to buy. 8. The design and the feel. Never buy a digital camera online unless you are sure that the camera has the features that you want and you will be using, and unless you are sure of how the camera would fit in your hands. Always go for a camera that does not feel too heavy when you lift it and has features that you would not get losing using. Your first digital camera should be a camera that you would always love using, no matter how advanced you get with photography.

How to choose a barcode scanner

Barcode scanners are light emitting devices that are used to read barcodes. Usually attached to a computer or laptop via PS2 or RS-232, the data collected is stored on a computer for processing or storage. It is now used in many different industries such as retail or production. They have been on the market for many years now with new versions of barcode scanners available every year. The prices can vary from as low as $50.00 to as high as several thousand dollars. So how do you pick a good barcode scanner? To answer that question, it is important you know there are 2 major classes of barcode scanners, image-based and laser-based. Image-based barcode scanners use a camera usually embedded in a barcode scanner. The camera will capture the images and then processed by complex image techniques to decode the barcodes. Laser-based barcode scanners uses mirrors and lenses to read the barcodes. Laser barcode scanners are usually more expensive than image-based scanners. They have their own pros and cons. An image-based barcode scanner do not have internal movable parts therefore are more resistant to drops or knocks than laser barcode scanners. Also, image-based barcode scanners have a shorter scanning distance (4 to 10 inches) compared to laser barcode scanners. On the other hand, laser scanners are more prone to wear and tear due to their lenses. They not only have a longer scanning distance (up to 24 inches) but also are able to scan from a wider angle from the barcode. Be aware that the scanning distance for both image-based and laser barcode scanners have already improved dramatically over the years and I wouldn’t be surprised if a barcode manufacturer claims an image-based scanner has a scanning distance of 24 inches. Here are some questions you need to ask yourself before getting a barcode scanner. The size of scanner required? Type of environment the barcode scanner will be using (outdoors, shop, warehouse)? The scanning distance required? Are they to be used hands free or hand-held? Your budget? So my suggestion is if you need a barcode scanner for long range scanning, get a laser barcode scanner. For short range scanning, use an image-based barcode scanner such as a CCD barcode scanner. The environment as I asked earlier also plays an important part. If the barcode scanner is being used outdoors or in rugged environments where it is expected to take a drop or knock or two, then it is best to get an image-based barcode scanner. If it were for example being used in a retail shop, then a laser barcode scanner would be the best choice. There are such a wide variety of barcode scanners available that I just can’t explain completely in this article. If you are in doubt, consult the barcode manufacturers such as symbol or metrologic who have sales consultants who are able to do an analysis of the type of barcode scanners needed by your business.

How to choose a digital camera

Digital cameras have exploded in popularity in recent years. The convenience that they have brought to the market with the ability to review your pictures instantly and correct any imperfections by retaking the picture and the ability to store, edit, and email them from your own personal computer has fueled this growth. It is now no longer a matter of if you need a digital camera, but rather which one do I choose? First decide how you are going to use the camera. If simplicity is your goal, a simple point and shoot digital camera will do. If you wan the flexibility to be able to grow with the camera as you gain experience get a point and shoot that offers manual controls, this way you will have the best of both worlds – infinite options for creativity and the ease of an automatic mode. The next item on your agenda should be megapixels. To keep it simple, the more megapixels the better the picture will be. So, how many megapixels do you need? If all you are doing is printing or emailing photos, a 3 or 4 megapixel digital camera will work. If you are going to use it for more professional work and enlarging photos, go with one with 5 or 6 megapixels. If you want uncompromising clarity go with a 7 megapixel or above. Just remember the higher the megapixels the higher the price! How much zoom do you need? You have two types of zoom with digital cameras, digital and optical. Optical is the more important because it brings your object closer without losing quality. The digital zoom will bring the object in closer, but you sacrifice the quality of the picture. If all you do is take everyday pics a 1x to 4x optical zoom will do. If you take pics like sporting events, get one with a 5x optical zoom or higher. For really intense professional work choose a 10x or better optical zoom. Digital cameras have evolved now to the point where you can get a great fully featured camera that will fit comfortably in your shirt pocket so don’t think you have to get a large one to get good quality. If you are using it for more professional use with large optical zoom and such expect to have to buy a larger one however.

How to choose a home theater system

When choosing a home theater system one must first consider there budget. In years past a home theater system was for only the rich, but with improvements in technology, home theater system are available for almost any budget. Costs range from $299 to $30,000 or more, depending on the components chosen and the size of your home theater system. Components Most people try to achieve creating a movie theater in there home. Now of days a most theaters have surround sound system. Therefore in a home theater you will want to look for the following components, a large-screen television (usually 32” or larger), and a speaker system with a subwoofer (a loud speaker designed to reproduce bass frequencies) & front and rear (usually a minimum of 5 speakers) speakers for quality sound. You will also need an audio/video surround receiver, a DVD player, and a cable or satellite receiver. Most people also add a video recorder and a DVD recorder. The big screen television High-definition television (HDTV) is the most popular for Home theater systems. HDTV’s digital technologies give a much sharper & crisper picture quality, also an improved video field to bring the audience right into the middle of the action. One of the things you must consider when you design your theater system is to look to the future. This way your system will stay up to date longer. To do this you will need to consider things like purchasing a high-quality, integrated HDTV monitor with wide screen display, because the conventional full screen movies we have enjoyed for years will someday be replaced with the movie theater style wide screen movies that more and more we are enjoying now. Even cable systems are delivering digital viewing services, which will only continue to develop. Wide-screen HDTV monitors start at 27” for a traditional square shape and 30” for a wide-screen, and range up to 82”. When considering a televisison for a smaller area you may want to look at direct-view televisions. For larger areas you can consider rear-projection or plasma televisions, Direct-view televisions don’t require viewers to sit so far back from the viewing screen. Surround-sound Remember when considering your home theater system that sound is a very important part of the experience. You can buy a box system for as little as $200. You will want to look at different system and choose the one that best fit your needs and the sound quality that best fit you space and needs. Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound has been the industry standard for years, says Craig Eggers, director of consumer electronics technology marketing for Dolby Laboratories. Dolby is now the North American audio standard for HDTV. This technology "delivers 5.1 channels of fully discrete surround sound audio to any home theater," Eggers says. This means the soundtracks are recorded with five main channels: left, center, right, left surround and right surround, plus a low-frequency effects bass channel. Surround sound systems use a minimum of five speakers to bring the listener inside the viewing experience. Instead of watching the picture, you're a participant--just like at a movie theater. These box systems also include various components such as DVD players or recorders, or am fm stereo, VCR players or recorders, some system may also include iPod or Mp3 technology. This will complete the basic systems, but don’t forget that you may also want to consider a camcorder or digital camera technology for those home videos. Once you have developed the home theater that best fits your needs the only thing left is to sit back and enjoy and don’t forget the popcorn. Written by Kevin Hampton, visit me at costlesselectronics How-To Tips Cables are an integral part of a home theater. Good cables will enhance the performance of your entire system, while poor quality cables can actually reduce quality. Look for the following when cable shopping: · Look for cables with high-density shielding, gold-plated connectors and durable jackets to provide long-lasting, reliable connections. If you have the choice of using either digital or analog cables, choose digital to eliminate unneeded digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital conversions, which lead to reduced image and sound quality. · When you're looking for the right cables, make sure you avoid generic cables made with low-grade materials and low-quality construction because they're highly prone to noise and distortion. Watch especially for connectors that fit loose or too tight, with inadequate shielding and unprotected solder joints. · Be wary of manufacturers that don't provide information concerning the construction of their cables. Quality cable companies, such as Accell or Monster Cable, often will provide a cable cut-away illustration, providing clear visibility of their cables' material and construction. · Finally, make sure to keep your cable lengths as short as possible to get the best quality sound. How to compare digital camera prices

Digital camera prices have been constantly dropping whilst the quality and complexity of the digital cameras has been rising rapidly. People who used to only dream of owning a digital camera because of the excessive digital camera prices may now be able to afford much better cameras than they realize. In fact, digital camera prices have changed so dramatically that a 5- or 6-megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera has dropped below what a 4-megapixel camera was selling for less than a year ago. Digital camera prices of $200-$300 are now common for good point-and-shoot digital cameras that come with an image resolution of up to 5 mega pixels and a 3X optical zoom lens. It is important to recognize what the minimum features are to expect for this range of digital camera prices. Digital camera prices between $200 and $300 should include: * 1.3 frames per second shooting capability * 10 to 20 scene modes * built-in flash * lens openings from f2.8 to f4.8 * optical viewfinder and an LCD of 1.5 to 2 inches * optical zoom lens with a range equivalent to that of a 35-115mm lens * rechargeable batteries * shutter speeds of 4 seconds to 1/2000 second * solid plastic or metal housing * video clip capture at 320 by 240 resolution with audio Digital camera prices can vary and it is essential to know what the most useful features are. Obviously you want to take good pictures but don’t want to pay the inflated digital camera prices that the high-end cameras have. However, your priority should be to assess which features are the most important to enable you to take the best pictures. The higher the numbers of megapixels that the cameras have, the higher the digital camera prices are but this does not necessarily guarantee better pictures. One of the most useful features to look for in the $200-$300 range of digital camera prices for point-and-shoot picture taking is scene modes. Digital camera prices are not affected very much by having scene modes but these allow an amateur photographer to take shots such as a fireworks display and sunsets without knowing how to adjust the camera settings manually. The majority of the better digital cameras within the $200-$300 range of digital camera prices have scene mode selections available. Another feature of cameras within the $200-$300 range of digital camera prices is that they are compact and will fit in a jacket pocket.

How to find quality cameras and lenses online

Shopping online for a camera is the best way to locate detailed descriptions of all the camera and lens options available. Then you will be able to make your choices based on these descriptions. Whether you are an amateur or professional photographer, there are many places on the Web to look for the camera you want. What Camera Do You Need? First of all, you must decide what type of camera will meet your needs. You may only need a simple point and shoot for family photos. These cameras will be less expensive and uncomplicated to operate. You can get automatic actions such as zoom and flash or automatic advancement in 35mm cameras. They are usually compact and simple to use, which makes it easy for anyone to take pictures. However, there are limitations with those cameras in the control of exposure and focusing. For someone who is more involved in amateur photography, added manual control may be beneficial. One of the biggest advantages is the ability to change lenses to get a better zoom picture. Sporting events and vacation photos will be more pleasing to look at when taken with the right types of lenses. The serious and professional photographers will want the best cameras with the features that suit their needs. This would include manual focus to give the clearest and sharpest pictures. Also, there are several different size lenses to get a good picture from a greater distance. Different Camera Styles There are basically four different kinds of cameras to choose from. The first, usually cheapest and easiest to handle, is the point and shoot. The second is the 35mm SLR that allows more variety in lenses and focus. The third is the Medium Format, which is larger and gives a larger negative to work with. It is completely manual but supplies a high-quality photograph. The fourth is the Large Format camera used by the professionals. It is larger and harder to use but provides stunning photographs from the larger size prints. Shop Online for Cameras and Lenses When you have decided the type of camera you need, you are ready to shop online. To get started, you simply type in your key words on a search engine. Once you know what you are looking for the task will be much simpler. There are many sites that offer cameras at wholesale or discount prices. They usually offer all the well-known brands such as Leica, Minolta, Canon, Horizon, Contax, Olympus, Mamiya, Nikon, Hasselblad, Pentax, and Noblex. Some sites sell used products that have been gently used or refurbished. Purchasing these cameras would save you some money and will usually still come with a warranty. There are sites with online catalogs where you can look for the brand or style you want. They also provide search features so you can shop by key word or brand name. Compare Before Buying It is a good idea to shop around and compare prices and shipping costs before buying a camera. Remember to include the shipping costs when calculating the total price of a camera or lenses. Don't buy a camera at a discount price just because it is a good deal. To be sure you are satisfied with your purchase, look for the key features and quality you want. Buy a camera based on your needs and you'll enjoy taking fabulous photographs with it for years to come!

How to shop for a flat screen tv online

When it comes to shopping for a flat screen TV, consumers have the option of browsing the local retail store, internet shop or mail-order catalog. Because of it's convenience, many choose to shop online and leave the heavy lifting to someone else. In exchange for a shipping fee, consumers can have the product delivered directly to their doorstep. When shopping for any product online, including a flat screen TV, there are several ways for the customer to make sure that their bargain purchase doesn't become a real pain. There is something to be said in the old adage, which declares that if something is too good to be true, then it probably is! Anyone shopping for a flat screen TV should familiarize themselves with the retail price of the particular model that they are interested in purchasing. If the buyer comes across an unrealistic low price for this item, this may throw a red flag to indicate a questionable offering. Technology is expensive and no business, no matter how great or small, can afford to practically give away their merchandise. Extremely high shipping fees combined with low pricing is also a legitimate concern among internet shoppers. Because of the weight of a flat screen TV, consumers can expect to pay a larger shipping fee, but only within reason. As with most new technology, a warranty is generally available from the manufacturer. During an occasion when a customer purchases a flat screen TV online, they need to make sure that the guarantee is from an American warranty. In addition, customers should pay close attention to exactly what is covered under the warranty, the period covered and which party is responsible for shipping costs if applicable. Before making any purchase, including that of a flat screen TV, consumers should always check out the business's reputation with the local Better Business Bureau in their area. It is also a good idea to learn about the company's return and/or exchange policy in the event that a problem should arise. While it is important to purchase a flat screen TV from a reputable dealer, the sales approach should never be an aggressive one. Even if the company is legitimate, a pushed sale is never a good idea. As a final thought, when purchasing anything online, including a flat screen TV, consumers may wish to consider doing so with a credit card. The majority of credit card companies offer a dispute process, which enables the customer to gain a full refund if the product is not as advertised or if the company refuses to stand behind their product. Each credit card company retains a unique policy when it comes to customer disputes, which is outlined in the Terms & Agreement paperwork included with their card.

How you can increase the lifespan of your projector bulb or lamp

The replacement of projector bulbs is an all-too-frequent occurrence for anybody that has owned a home theater projector for any length of time. While a two thousand hour lifespan may sound like a lifetime to some people, rest assured it is not long before the projector lamp will need replacing. There are however, some general tips that can help to expand the life of a headlamp for the projection unit. Do not touch the lamp with bare hands One of the most frequent problems encountered is people replacing the bulbs with their bare hands. While this is fine for an ordinary light bulb, it is not a good practice for a projector lamp. The lamp in a projection unit burns much hotter than any regular light bulbs. The effects of touching it with bare skin are equally magnified and problematic. Touching a projector bulb with the bare skin leaves traces of oil on the lamp surface. While this may seem a very minor detail, it is detrimental both to the bulb and the quality of the resulting multimedia display. The oils will get burnt onto the lamp and drastically reduce the lifespan. As the oil is baked into the surface, it actually diffuses the light being projected, reducing the lumens actually being sent to the refractive surfaces. The light will not be enough to project the image that has come to be expected from the home theater projection system. While the problem may not be noticeable at first, over the course of a little time, the quality will degrade to the point of not being viewable. Turn off the projector power after turning off the lamp It is highly recommended to turn the power on the projector to the “off” position only after having turned off the lamp and allowing it to cool. This will allow the cooling fans to do the job they were designed to do. While rapid cooling and heating result in repeated contractions and expansions of the bulb filament, it is much better that it be done more quickly with the cooling fans. Likewise, turning the projector on and allowing the cooling fans to run for a moment before turning on the lamp will help as well. This will add hours to bulb life expectancy and allow for longer hours of viewing pleasure on the home theater projection system. Constant Movements Constantly bumping or moving the projector, especially while it is hot can be very detrimental to the projector lamp. The filament in the bulb loses almost all tensile strength when it is heated during normal usage. It is much the same as the filament in a camp lantern. The principle is the same; the filament effectively becomes almost the same consistency as ash, making it extremely vulnerable to damage when it is hot. Even after proper cooling, the lamp filament is very sensitive. Care should be taken when moving the projector for whatever reason. While it is always a good idea to be careful with electronic equipment, some aspects of the home projector are actually a bit more sensitive. It will usually be necessary to move the projector when cleaning the filters. As always, it is a good idea to move it carefully without jerking it around or bumping it any more than needed. Taking an extra moment or two to check the projector mount and make sure it is still securely fastened can also be beneficial and prevent slips and movement which may otherwise be harmful. With a little care and a little preventative maintenance, the projector lamps will still need to be changed, but not nearly as often.

How your allergies can benefit from hepa filters

Hepa filters are the most effective air cleaning systems sold for home use. They are used in hospitals and doctors recommend them above other air filtration systems for patients with asthma or severe allergies. They aren’t energy efficient for whole house filtration systems due to the amount of energy needed to run them. For this reason, most are intended to treat one space. You may need to purchase one for the bedroom and another for the living area. Hepa is an acronym for High Efficiency Particulate Air filter. This method is more effective at removing small particles from the air than any other filtration media. They can be used alone in an air cleaner or combined with another method, such as an electrostatic air purifier. These filters are sometimes used on another appliance, such as a vacuum cleaner or humidifiers in cold weather or a dry climate. Effectiveness of Hepa Filters The effectiveness of a filter is measured by the size of the particles it can remove from the air. This is stated in microns. The smaller the number, the more particles will be removed from your air. In general, you should look for a filter that will remove 99.97% of all particles 0.1 microns or larger. These filters remove a wide variety of contaminants from the air. They are very effective at removing dust mites and pet dander, which are two very common allergens in homes. They also reduce smoke, pollen and mold spores from the air. For the air cleaning system to be effective, it needs to fit the room. Most air purifier models are marked for the number of square feet they cover. Find out the square footage of the space where you intend to use the purifier before you go shopping. Choose one that works for a slightly larger area for best results. For example, if the room is 300 square feet, look for a system that will treat 400 square feet. A purifier that works for only 300 square feet will be less effective at removing all the particles in your air. In most cases, these filters are disposable. For the system to be effective, the filter must be changed as needed. Follow the directions from the manufacturer for how often it needs to be changed. The more the air cleaner is used, the more the filters will need to be changed. In general, you will need to change it every three to six months. Hepa Vacuum Cleaners If you have an air cleaner, but you use a traditional vacuum cleaner, the air won’t be as clean as you would like. Dust and other particles in the carpet is kicked up into the air by vacuuming. This causes more irritants in the air for you to breathe. Hepa filters are being used in vacuum cleaners. The filter traps particles inside, leaving fewer irritants in the air. Some vacuum cleaners use a single filter, while others use multi stage or multiple filters. These filters are cleanable and need to be replaced yearly. For the system to be effective, you should look for a filter that is capable of catching small particles. When replacing filters, be sure to buy the right size for your vacuum.
