Easy crafts for kids aged 3 5 to make for mother s day

Kids are always wanting to make mom a gift for Mother’s Day. They want something that is all their own, without much help from anyone, so here are some ideas that are both inexpensive and easy for them. A home made jewelry box: Give the child a small paper mache box - sort of like a jewelry box, any shape with a lid. Now, put down some newspaper, put acrylic paints, brushes, glitter, buttons, charms, ribbon or lace, glue, colored markers or crayons down on the paper, and let your child do the work. You will be surprised what they can come up with. They can also use the same materials to make a card for Mom on Mother’s Day. Just get a thick card stock to fold in half so they can decorate it. You can also use poster board and help them make a big “Happy Mother’s Day” sign, to greet her in the morning with. Another idea is to get some cheap plastic beads with big holes, some string and let them make a matching set of bracelets and a necklace for mom. Cut out hearts of red, pink, lavender paper or poster board, color it, put glitter on it and hang them all over the house. Modeling clay is always a nice medium to play with. There are clays that only need to dry in the air and need no baking at all. Modeling clay allows your child to form anything that comes to mind. They can use their imagination with no limits, except for the limits of the clay. Once the project is dry, your child can paint it or dress it up any way they want. It is an inexpensive way and fun way of letting your child make and give of their heart to their mom on Mother’s Day. Check your local craft shop for other project ideas that are appropriate for this age group. Take your little one to the store and let them decide what they want to make for mommy. Just remember to read the age group limit on the outside of the box. Always remember to supervise the children, especially with glue, paint and scissors around.

Easy way to get started scrapbooking

Do you remember those days as a kid pasting newspaper clippings onto paper and bundling dozens of papers together with some fancy ribbon or a string? Do you also remember all of your hard work falling apart two months later? Now there's a grown up way to save and preserve your treasures: Scrapbooking. The concept behind scrapbooking hasn't changed since grade school. You can still place photographs, newspaper clippings, poems, and tickets into your scrapbook to display and preserve your memories. However, scrapbooking techniques and tools have matured substantially since you were a kid. Scrapbooking albums have replaced the messy bundles of paper. These albums are generally bound or placed in a three-ring binder. In this way, your hard work won't fall apart. Furthermore, new specialized covers allow protection from the outside elements. Paste is also a thing of the past. Specialized glue dots and two-sided tape makes mounting your treasures simple and mess free. Many of these products are so strong that you can now decorate your scrapbook pages with ribbons, feathers, flowers, or even metal charms. Due to these new techniques and tools, the uses of scrapbooking have expanded drastically. Scrapbooking is still used to hold personal keepsakes and for gift giving. However, now scrapbooking techniques can be used to make baby announcements, grandparent books, gift cards, artwork for kid's rooms, recipe books, and even educational tools. What Do I Need to Start Scrapbooking? The best thing about scrapbooking is that although there are a plethora of scrapbooking supplies available on the market, you really don't need a lot to make your very first scrapbook. Basically, all you need to scrapbook is an album, some glue, a pair of scissors, and some photographs or newspaper clippings. Any fabric, ribbon, or bits of leftovers from other projects can be used to embellish your scrapbook. As you get more acquainted with scrapbooking, you will find products that save you time and frustration. Many of these products are well worth the extra cost. At the top of this list is an exacto knife. This strong and versatile blade allows you to cut almost anything into any shape. When the blade is dull, the end is simply broken off to reveal another sharp tip. Just be sure to place the object you plan to cut onto a mat or wad or newspaper before using the exacto knife. Otherwise, the knife will cut right through your picture and into your scrapbook page or dining room table. The next best tool is a pair of tweezers. Trying to pick up and place small gluey pieces is a hassle. Tweezers, though not very high tech, allow you to move pieces without touching them. Speaking of gluey pieces, various glues and affixing options are available. These quick and less messy options include glue dots, two-sided tape, Xyron, acid free photo tabs, and polypropylene corners. To increase the preservation of your scrapbook and your treasures, look for albums with acid free, lignin free pages. Both acid and lignin accelerate photo fading and general deterioration. Lignin is a chemical found naturally in the cell walls of plants. If the lignin is not removed in the paper manufacturing process, the chemical will cause the paper product to gradually yellow and crumble. Lignin and acid free products come in virtually any color and texture.

Everything you need to know about beeswax candles and more

Beeswax candles are made from all natural ingredients made by honeybees. When bees eat honey, they produce this wax. Beekeepers filter the beeswax from the honeycombs, cool it and sell it for use in making candles. Beeswax candles are the most natural candles that you can buy. They are available as taper candles, votives, tea lights and pillar candles. For those with sensitive allergies, beeswax candles allow them to enjoy the warmth and beauty of a burning candle. You don’t need to add any scent to a bees wax candle because the wax is naturally scented with honey. Therefore beeswax candles rarely have any additives and this includes color. The natural yellow color adds to the ambiance of a bees wax taper candle and the scent of honey will perfume the air. Like soy candles, bees wax candles burn longer and cleaner than paraffin candles. However, one of the disadvantages of using bees wax taper candles is that they cost more than soy or paraffin candles. The wax used in making beeswax candles can vary from white to a light brown. In some cases, candle makers may add bleach to the wax to lighten the color of the bees wax. Candles that have been bleached may not have as much of a honey scent to them, but you won’t be able to smell the scent of bleach. The bleach also helps to filter the beeswax. A candle made from unfiltered bees wax may contain small bits of wood or even parts of the bees. Over time, you may notice that there is a white powder on the outside of your beeswax candles. This does not mean that the bees wax candles are no longer any good. The development of this powder is a natural occurrence with beeswax taper candles and is called blooming. You can easily wipe the powder off of the beeswax candle. It is actually a good thing for this to happen because it will tell you that your bees wax taper candles have been made from pure beeswax. If you like making your own candles, beeswax candles are the easiest ones to make at home. Beeswax is sold in sheets and you don’t have to bother with any additives, colors or candle scents. The bees wax that you buy is already filtered so you don’t need to bother with bleaching it. All you have to do is melt down the bees wax and pour it into your molds to have the perfect beeswax candles.

Family fun children s activities arts and crafts

What are some fun ways to spend time together when the weather outside is dreary? There are all kinds of inexpensive ways to spend time with your kids. Reading a story to your young child is a wonderful experience. Listening to music and dancing together is also fun. Another fun activity is building forts with blankets and moving furniture together. Then bring in a flashlight and read a book to your child. Play dough is also a nice creative way to spend time together. Roll it, mold it and create great works of art. It's safe and can be used over and over again. You can make your own play dough and make different colors. Here is a great play dough recipe I have used many times with my own kids. 4 cups flour 1 cup salt 4 cups water 4 tablespoons oil 1/2 cup cream of tartar food coloring (use this to create the colors of your choice) Mix all ingredients in a sauce pan. Cook and stir over low/medium heat until play dough is completely formed and no longer sticky. Allow to cool slightly before storing in an air tight container or zip lock bag. Shaving cream art is also fun and easy. Using a vinyl table cloth or plastic place mats just spray some shaving cream on and let them use like finger paint. I would recommend using the sensitive skin brand of shaving cream. Another great favorite is collages. You just need construction paper, some magazines, elmer's glue and safety scissors. Have the children cut out pictures of interest to them and glue them all over the construction paper. Once their project dries hang proudly on your fridge. Make a dreary day into a fun and exciting day with your child.

Family time can be scrapbooking time

Involving kids in scrapbooking is a wonderful way to spend family time together. Depending on the age of your kids, they can help you with your album or they can create albums of their own. Step one is going through photos. Children love to look at pictures. Young children love to tell you who the person in the picture is. Older children love to tell the story of the photo or ask you to tell the story of the photo. Both of my kids always love to look at the photos my mom has, many are in black and white. They love to see the differences between life back then, and life today. Of course my mom enjoys sharing with my kids about life back then. Again, depending on the age of your kids, they can help you choose the color of the paper used, the stickers you use, any lettering you use and can help design the overall layout of the page. When you open a scrapbook there is a page on the left and a page on the right. Often, my kids will each design one side. If you have all of the supplies organized, it’s very reasonable to be able to create several pages in one evening. The adhesives I use are all zots, or precut small squares that are double sided. These adhesives are very simple to use. Even young kids can attach one side to the photo and then when ready peel off the other side and then press into the album. I am not an artist by any means. I also can not cut a straight line. One of the things my own children most love about the albums I’ve given to them is that every album has crooked pictures. We truly laugh until tears roll down our faces about how I can not even attach a photo straight onto a page. So, even if your young children do attach a photo a bit crooked, seeing the album, knowing you and child made it together will bring you great joy. If your children are old enough to write, have them do some of the journaling. Help them write their story about the pictures they are putting into the album. Scrapbook pages all should be in sheet protectors, so even small fingers can’t smudge photos. It really is a joy to watch young children take out the scrapbook album they helped to create and watch them tell their dolls or imaginary friends all of the stories behind the various photos. Scrapbooking is multi generational, allowing young children and even great grandparents to participate in an activity together. One thing that always makes my own children giggle are the bathing suits my grandparents wore in one photo we have. My grandparents were both born in the late 1800’s and so the bathing suits were quite different from what we see today. I was born in New York and so we have photos of me in a baby carriage in the snow. Living in California today, these photos are all of a different place and different time to my own children. They have so enjoyed my own mother telling them about life in New York. Since both of my children are older (driving age) and since we live in California, neither has ever driven in snow. Asking my mom about driving in the snow has provided conversation that would not have taken place if we didn’t have the photos and scrapbooks to talk about. Scrapbooking and photos truly are a way to provide conversation, to bridge the gap between generations and to provide a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time with your children.

    Finding crochet patterns

Crochet patterns are guides that are used by anyone who enjoys crocheting, whether it be for fun or profit. These references are most helpful to those who are new to the hobby, but even the advanced expert can benefit from the use of crochet patterns. Quite often, a pattern can spark new ideas and thoughts for future projects. For as long as there has been crocheting, there have been crochet patterns. Over the years, however, the creativity and level of detail has greatly improved in each pattern. Of course, there are simple guides for those who are new to the art and those are terrific ways to help get anyone started. Because they are just a reference guide, crochet patterns are very inexpensive. The best thing about them, however, is that they can be used and reused for future projects. A pattern can also be altered by the true novice who has a creative streak and the ability to create a newly inspired product. So, just what is the reason for using crochet patterns? The best reason is to make sure a finished product is accurate, but there are other benefits as well. If you are in the crafting business and need inspiration, crochet patterns are ideal. While you cannot recreate them exactly, they can provide you with new ideas that may be a bestseller at the next craft fair, online auction or other business venture. Crochet patterns are terrific to purchase for yourself or for someone that you know who loves to create new thingsmonly found in every craft specialty store, crochet patterns are also readily available in retail stores at the craft section. Perhaps the largest source, however, is that of the internet. The world wide web is a virtual shopping mall that welcomes customers 24/7 and, because of it’s broad reach, is able to offer products that would otherwise be unavailable. Such items may include crochet patterns that are designed states or even countries away, but can be found with the click of a button. The art of crocheting is beautiful and is like nothing else. It’s intricate detailing and soft flowing nature is one of the most popular designs in clothing today, but also finds it’s way into the living room and/or bedroom and onto some of the world’s most expensive handmade throws. No matter the reason for using them, crochet patterns are perfect for anyone who loves to create.

    Flower arrangements classicalmesh

Ikebana: Floral arrangement reloaded Visualize the phrase: “Floral arrangement” and you can almost smell it. A glorious bouquet of fresh roses arranged festively or solemnly, depending on the occasion. These floral arrangements are undeniably beautiful, emotive and symbolic, and are a part of our culture. Our Judeo Christian never preclude the study of Lao Tzu, Confucius and the Zen, and Ikebana is indeed the Zen in the art of flower arrangements. The materials used for Ikebana are earthy-- freshly cut branches, vines, leaves, grasses, berries, fruit, seeds and flowers also the wilted and dried plants. Putting it all together is decidedly spiritual. An expression of spiritual resonance. In Ikebana floral arrangement, the material, the style of the arrangement; the size, shape, texture, volume and color of the container even the place and occasion for its display are all vitally important factors. Ikebana originated from a simple ritual flower offering made in Buddhist temples in Japan during the sixth century. In that initial arrangement the flowers and the branches both were made to point toward heaven to show reverence. With the passage of time this art evolved into a sophisticated style of arranging flowers called “Rikka” (standing flowers) in 15th century. Rikka was created by the Buddhist monks of the Ikenobo School. The Rikka depicts the magnificence of nature plus its display. The material used in it, were pine branches represent rocks and stones, and white chrysanthemums signifying a river or small stream. This style became quite famous in seventeenth century but worn as a decoration for ceremonies and festivities. Alas it is now considered old-fashioned and is rarely practiced. Japan too was affected by the Western Civilization after the beginning of Meiji era (1868– 1912) . The new style in Ikebana called Moribana, literally "piled-up flowers" brought a total revolution in this art. The traditional way was to gather different materials and place them in a container to emerge from a single point. Ohara the revolutionist made use of diverse types of supports to arrange the cut plants on an extended surface in wide but shallow containers called suiban meaning “water basin”. This technique introduced the usage of new imported materials which were never accommodated before in traditional styles. This allowed the conception of landscape style called “shakei” in flower arrangement. This gave way to show scenes from nature in a very naturalist rather more symbolic manner. Another prominent innovator was Adachi Choka (1887–1969), who implemented moribana but described his work simply as decoration. The innovation in the art of flower arrangement continued. After the Meiji cult Ikebana further improved as zen'ei ikebana or zen'eibana. This new form of Ikebana was even more expressive than the old style. Women were conventionally schooled in Ikebana, tea ceremony and calligraphy in training for marriage. Flower arrangement today is established as one of the traditional arts in Japan. People practice it on many occasions as ceremonies and festivities, modern people are still opting to study the art. At this time there are 3000 schools ikebana schools in Japan and almost thousand more worldwide. The most famous Ikebana schools are Ikebono, Ohara and Sogetsu. Most of the Ikebana school sprouts from Ikebono School even today Ikebono School alone has 60,000 teachers around the world. 15 million people in Japan practice Ikebana, typically young women. We can divide Ikebana approximately into two styles. Moribana which has a shallow vase style and second is Nageire having a tall vase style. Sogetsu School adapts array of kakei (patterns) for either style consequently even an apprentice can swiftly generate their own arrangements. All the Ikebana schools mainly emphasis on the basic rule of proportion between material and container or the other way round. It requires the existence of three main lines: Sky, man and earth. And these lines are affixed in the container in certain preset sizes and angle of inclination. The rules of Ikebana teach sensitivity for balance and proportion and also the well-balance coexistence of weak and strong material. It brings you closer to nature. Ikebana, for the one who knows the spirit of this art is more than just a way of flower arrangement it’s a complete different perspective of showing life and reverence. Sogetsu School that is just dedicated for Ikebana was formed by the founder Tofu Teshigahara in 1927. He adopted modernity of art and fused it with historical traditions of Ikebana. After his death in 1979, the school was monitored by his daughter Kasumi Teshigahara. Unfortunately due to her untimely death in 1980 school was followed by her brother in 1980 Hiroshi Teshigahara. Hiroshi Teshigahara being already the famous movie director and ceramicist introduced advanced impulses into the teaching of school. It’s the result of his devotion for the art of Ikebana that today ikebana has gained more and more acknowledgement even in the western world. After his death in 2001 his daughter is supervising the school. Ikebana has always considered as an asset in Japan and learned with respect and devotion. Fragranced pillar candles the most popular candles of all

Fragranced pillar candles are quite common in just about every room of the home. They are great centrepieces for mantles, dining room tables and coffee tables. Decorated with bows and flowers, fragranced pillar candles are easy to coordinate with any dйcor because they come in all sizes and colors. When you look at the choice of scents you can have in fragranced pillar candles, you can have a different scent in your home for every season of the year or for different occasions. Of course you can also have non-fragranced candles if you just want to have the colored candles or you can even go with plain white candles. Fragranced jar candles are also perfect for any occasion. When you want to put out the flame you just have to replace the top of the jar. You may need to buy a special candle lighter for jar candles because it is hard to get your hand down in the jar to light it once the candle burns down to a certain level. With fragranced pillar candles, you don’t have this problem because the wick is always exposed and easy to light. You can choose different types of wax as well when you are buying a fragranced pillar candle and this will affect the way the candle burns. Non-fragranced pillar candles are suitable for anyone, but they are most preferred by those with a scent allergy. You don’t have to do without candles because there is no scent whatsoever with the non-fragranced pillar or jar candles. Use three or more of these pillar candles on a plate candle holder and tie them together with a bow. You can have colors matching all the dйcor of your room or choose the same color candles. If you choose fragranced pillar candles, you can choose heavily fragranced candles if you mainly want to use the candles as a centrepiece and not light them. The fragrance from the candle is enough to emit a delightful scent throughout the room. You should never use fragranced pillar candles near food. If you are using them as part of a table centrepiece, then you should remove them from the table before you serve the food. This is why you will always find non fragranced pillar candles lit for a dinner. This applies to fragranced jar candles as well as free standing candles and tapered candles. If you want a clean burning fragranced pillar candle, then your best choice is one made from soy wax or beeswax. Paraffin wax pillar candles tend to be more sooty and five off smoke. When you are choosing non fragranced or fragranced pillar candles to suit your dйcor, you have to consider whether tall or short candles will suit better. You also have to decide whether you should use contrasting colors to accentuate small details or whether you want the candles to blend in with the main color of the dйcor. So as you can see, it’s not just the fragrance that you have to consider when buying fragranced pillar candles.

First you will need the proper wax for the candle. Votives are primarily made with paraffin wax, which has a melting point of 130° F. Depending on the effect you want to achieve with your votive candles, you may or may not have to included additives in the wax. Once you follow the simple instructions you will have your candles ready within 2 hours. If you want to start learning how to make a candle, votives are the best ones to start with. In addition to having the wax to make a candle, votives need special molds. There are many of these molds to choose from and the number you have require depends on the number of votive candles you want to make. You don’t need to use any fragrances if you want unscented votive candles, but you can add whichever scents you want if you prefer to have a scent on your candle. You will also need to have the proper wick for a votive candle and here too, there are several choices you can make. For example, you can use a pre-tabbed votive wick, a cotton core waxed wick or wick clips. In order to have little difficulty releasing the votive candle from the mold, you can buy silicone spray. Just spray the mold before you pour in the wax to make the candle. Votives don’t require large molds, so you probably won’t need to use this. However, if you intend spending any amount of time making votive candles, then it won’t add very much to the cost of your supplies. Candle fragrance is also optional because many people are allergic to scents and prefer the unscented votive candles. When you gather all your candle making supplies, cover the countertop with newspaper so that it will catch any spills from the wax for the candle. Votives are small and it is very likely that you will spill some of the melted wax when you start pouring it into the mold. You will also need paper towels to clean the stove top because there is likely to be splatters. Before you start pouring the wax for the votive candle into the mold, make sure you have it placed on a flat surface. Otherwise, you may have lopsided unscented votive candles. When it comes to candles, votives are by far the most popular. This is because they are small and dainty and fit into most candleholders. Although they are usually sold in sets of six, they are very inexpensive, if you would prefer to buy them rather than make your own candles. Votives are also easy to store in a small box, but you do have to keep them in a cool, dry place.

    Gold silk wedding flowers

Gold silk wedding flowers can make any occasion into an event to remember. Asian lanterns, boylesilk floralsupply, kinkadestudios and outback boutique are great sources for gold silk wedding flowers. Silk flowers are used in many occasions, festive times and while observing special days. We can‘t imagine a celebration without flowers. Silk flowers or flowers on the whole have had secret meanings ever since Greek mythology. The Ancient Greeks first developed 'The Language of Flowers’.Some flowers carry several (sometimes conflicting) meanings, whilst others have no hidden messages at all. Gold Silk wedding flowers can cost a large amount of money, but don't let this discourage you. Flowers carry along with them a thousand meanings so don‘t underestimate the importance of having flowers at your wedding. Flowers at a wedding denote celebration, congratulation, fertility, and prosperity. They contribute to the atmosphere of love and embodies the beauty and promise of joining two lives together. The bride‘s flowers should compliment the style of her gown or dress, as well as her personality and the style and theme of the wedding etc. So having gold silk wedding flowers would make an absolutely profound statement and completely mesmerise your guests. Be sure that the scale of the flowers at the site matches with the scale of the location (be in contact with the administrators of the site to make sure your flowers will be suited in the space). see if the other decorations or background is dark, or if it is a winter wedding etc then consider contrasting with bright or light-coloured flowers. The length of the bridal bouquet should be arranged always by keeping the height of the bride in mind (for example, a tall bride might want to use a cascading bouquet). There are a few kinds of bridal bouquets: Cascade: flows downwards and may have a blossom or two suspended below by its own stem or a ribbon presentation: held in the crook of the arm like a scepter round cluster: may have a ruff of lace or tulle behind it; a common favourite is a tight cluster of roses or roses & peonies loosely-tied. Some brides opt to have an additional toss bouquet with less expensive or common flowers so they can keep their own bouquet as a memento. The bride should have the largest or most elaborate bouquet followed by that of the maid or matrons of honour and then the attendants. Both mothers of bride and groom should have the same bouquets or at least similar in size and elaboration. The groom‘s boutonniere should be distinctive, though similar to the style of flowers used throughout the wedding decoration. One option is to echo some of the flowers in the bride‘s bouquet. Decorative flowers can be accented with bowls of water, goldfish, candles, colourful seasonal fruit, glass balls or marbles. The bride doesn‘t have to limit herself to a traditional bouquet.

Gourd enthusiasm growing around the world

Gourds played an essential role in the daily life of early culturesmonly used as containers and vessels, they were also used for musical instruments. Some cultures used gourds for birdhouses and feeders and this is what most people today think of when they hear the word gourd. Or maybe you can remember a dipper made out of a gourd at Grandma’s house years ago. Now artists and crafts people have discovered a new medium to develop their creativity. I’m not sure when the gourd craze officially started but it worked it’s way into my life a number of years ago by way of an article in a gardening magazine. It looked interesting and so that spring I decided to grow a couple gourd plants. My first creations were, of course, birdhouses. Later, after some research and book purchases, the world of gourds exploded and I have found that the creative possibilities are limitless. Even if you can’t come up with your own ideas there are a multitude of books and tutorials written by gourd artists and crafters explaining different techniques that can be done with gourds. Gourd craft is working its way into the hands of accomplished artists who have found the gourd to be an exciting new way to showcase their art. They are not just for crafters anymore. So now that you have gotten a little gourd enthusiasm of your own what comes next? Well, the gourd of course. Gourd growers and suppliers, once few and far between, are beginning to pop up everywhere. Many can be found on the internet. Gourds come in all shapes and sizes, from minis to giants. The name of the gourd can give you a clue about the shape, such as egg, cannonball, canteen, basketball, bottle and so forth. You get the idea. In order to work with the gourd it must be dry. If you happen to find gourds being sold in the fall at a farmers market they will most likely be freshly harvested. These will have to dry for a few months to a year or more depending on size. I personally don’t like to purchase green gourds, as they are called, just in case they haven’t fully matured. Some growers new to the world of gourd craft don’t understand the needs of the gourd artist. They are only concerned with growing gourds for fall decoration. A poorly grown gourd, instead of drying, may rot or have a shell too thin to work with. I’m in favor of buying gourds that have already dried. This way surprises and disappointments can be reduced. You still may have a few along the way though. When gourds dry they produce a moldy skin that eventually dries on the gourd. This skin has to be removed before art work can begin. After the skin is removed you may discover some holes or warts on your gourd. Or during cleaning you might discover your hard gourd has turned soft once you got it wet. This is the sign of a thin shell. There are things that can be done with a thin shell but for the most part we look for gourds with thick, sturdy shells. To avoid these problems, look for cleaned, ready to craft gourds. These gourds have been cleaned for you. Cleaning is a messy job and you may not have the desire or area in which to do it yourself. So come and join in the fun and find out for yourself the addicting powers of the gourd.
