Send your website an instant surge of free targeted traffic using t. o.d.

Traffic... the life blood of every online business. The problem is, are you getting enough of it to make your online business grow to your expectations within the time period you have set? In my mind you can never have enough traffic But the fact remains, NO Traffic, NO Profits, NO Business. Though there are many ways to generate traffic online, both FREE and Paid, the question remains, which method or methods are right for you and your business to get it moving and profitable in as little time as possible? Now, with that being said, what I'm about to share with you IS a 'Proven' way to create an avalanche of FREE targeted traffic to your website, without having to pay a single penny. This is ONE of many of the tactics the guru's online use to get the word out 'Quickly' about there NEW product and/or service. But, before I move on any further, let me first explain what "T. O.D." stands for and what it is so there won't be any confusion through the rest of this article. "T. O.D." stands for -- "Traffic On Demand". What is "Traffic On Demand"? It's simply an website and/or list owner with a large 'eMail List' of subscribers to which he/she can Blast an email out to at any time absolutely FREE about whatever they want as long as it's related to there target audience. Now, your probably wondering, "Well, how's T. O.D. going to benefit me? Simple. You proposition the website and/or list owner with a JV(Joint Venture) proposal they simply can't refuse. For those of you who don't know what a 'Joint Venture' is it's simply a business partnership between two or more parties that agree to share the $$Profits$$. If you've been online for any length of time I'm sure you've heard of 'Joint Ventures' at least somewhere online and how people claim is how there Internet fortunes were made. There's good reason for there claims simply because they already knew where to find an 'Hungry' targeted audience waiting for what they had to offer known as "T. O.D.". All they had to do was take the time to contact and proposition the website and/or list owner with a JV proposition they counldn't refuse. And belief me when I say this, there are literally MILLIONS of websites out there just waiting for you to hit them up with your Product or Service so they can send it to there lists of subscribers and collect there share of the $$Profits$$. And, if you already have an 'Affiliate Program' set-up for your product or service, your half way there. All you need to do is write a compelling JV proposal(not to long, these people are very busy and are hit up everyday with JV offers) and tell them... "What's in it for them?" And, here's another quick tip... make sure you 'Personalize' the JV proposal you send, otherwise, they won't give you the time of day and will discard your hard work as SPAM. Now, how can you get started - Starting Today? The 'Search Engines' are a great place to start under the keywords related to your product and/or service. You can also go to 'Ezine/Newsletter Directories' and search through there database of list owners to find relevant JV partners. Keep this in mind that not all the website and/or list owners you contact will jump on your JV offer. Don't get discouraged. If you don't here from them within a few days or a week, send out an follow-up email just in case your first JV proposal didn't get through to there Inbox, otherwise, keep on searching and keep on contacting. You just never know what might happen.

Sliced bread golf balls making money and your email list

So, you put up a website and started building your optin email list, and you kept on building your optin email list for a few months and sending out the weekly emails asking them to buy your recommended product or service because its the best thing since sliced bread and . . . NO ONE'S BUYING!! So you keep it up for a few more months, building your optin email list a bit more and sending out the weekly emails asking them to buy your better than sliced bread product and . . . NO ONE'S BUYING!! So now, you're getting frustrated and annoyed, because you've read all the articles and PDF's that the guru's have sent you, telling you "You Must Build Your List" And now, after reading endless success story after success story, you're finally asking yourself why you can't succeed, where others make it all sound so easy, and very profitable. If other people are making money from their list, why can't you? In fact, you may be losing money. You may be hiring writers to help you out, or you may have upgraded your autoresponder. Even if you managed to build a big list, you may find that only a small percentage of your subscribers will actually buy from you, so you're still not in profit. And it does not really show up, until you read the horrible facts and figures after a few months. So what could have gone wrong? Why have others succeeded where you have failed? The most common mistake is that you dived straight in. You chose a topic that you thought, would have been quite popular and would earn you money. But this is just not the case. Just because you emailed people from your optin email list does not mean that they are going to buy straight away, or ever. If you're selling golf balls, and the only people on your optin email list don't play golf, then you have a problem. Even if they are better than sliced bread golf balls. For those who have started an opt-in list and failed, you can rejuvenate your failed venture. For those who are starting, here are three fast and easy ways to build a profit making opt-in list. For this exercise, we are going to say that you have a website that sells golf balls, you have the knowledge, you know which golf ball is best for any particular type of player. 1) Start building your optin email list in an area in which you have some knowledge. If your site is selling golf balls, it makes sense that if you have people who play golf on your optin email list, then sooner rather than later you will get a response. Hang out in a couple of golf forums and start answering questions about golf balls. Find out what people want, and what they are buying. Then you will know exactly who to target, and who you want on your optin email list. Should that be golf forums or golf fourums? Join forums from other related topic sites as well. How about golf clubs. You know that certain golf balls work better with certain types of clubs. Answer questions and provide advice and recommendations. 2) Find a product or service that people want and need. You know what people are looking for, from your travel around the forums. Although it may not be your specialist subject, if you provide a service and product that you have researched and learned about well, you can carry it forward. Invest your time, effort and money in products or services that you could sell, as well as the buyers or subscribers of your opt-in list want to buy. While it is true that it is best to sell something that you have an interest in, there may not be many people who have the same interest as you, if you decide to sell something that is not entirely popular or profitable. Do your research well and you should see the profits come in. Also provide your subscribers with promotional material that they could actually use and spread around. 3) Make friends with other opt-in list owners, again try and find areas of related topic. How about golf bags? This can be very beneficial especially if it is someone who has already launched a successful opt-in list. These are people that have the experience in this venture and experience is still the best teacher. While there are many articles available for you on the internet to use, there is nothing like getting a first hand account from someone you trust. And you may be able to do some ad swapping to make it even more profitable. Experienced opt-in list owners will be able to tell you what to do and what not to do, because they have gone through it. While different situations occur for different people, the general concept can still be very helpful. There are many things to avoid and these people will be able to tell you which ones. Building a profitable opt-in list does not just happen overnight. There is a lot of preparation and work required before you can begin. Opt-in lists are built from scratch, as your optin email list grows, you should also maintain the quality of your optin email list. Keep it organized and manageable. Get or hire help if need be, just make sure that your subscribers are happy and satisfied and they will be willing to buy from you. Oh, and one more little thing. When a subscriber joins your list, do NOT have your first email to them, be one which is recommending they buy your better than sliced bread golf balls! Let them get to know you first, provide them with bits of information (for free) and then, after a few emails, you'll find that selling your better than sliced bread golf balls is really quite easy.

Specialized mailing lists make all the difference

If there is one thing I can’t say enough it is that the most important part of your mailing campaign is your mailing list. It is vital that you put the right amount of energy into learning about lists – who to mail to – so that your mailing efforts aren’t wasted. There are a few different ways that you can get an adequately targeted list. As always the first step is to determine who your target market will be. Should you market to consumers or businesses? For this example consider that your product is a set of home woodworking tools. This should be marketed to consumers because it is not an industrial grade product. Good, now we have narrowed it down to only 291,324,219 people in the US. As a minimum, your mailing campaign should send to the same names three times. So all you have to do is send out 873,972,657 postcards at $0.185 per piece & you get the point. We need to narrow it down some more. So how do you accomplish the narrowing of your list? Many factors can be considered, including age, gender, zip code, annual salary, profession and number of children are some of the more common qualifiers. It may take a while to figure out what combination works for your specific product. Don’t worry about political correctness when considering whom you should mail to. It is perfectly acceptable to test certain lists that may be considered "stereotypical". Many times these lists will work well. But you never know until you test them. A special eye cream would go to women over 40, right? You need not worry that you’re targeting “older women” or that 40 is no longer considered old. No matter how great an idea you have about a certain market, ALWAYS DO A SMALLER TEST MAILING FIRST! Average test mailings run around 1000-1500 names. Once you see acceptable returns on the smaller mailing then you can jump in with the larger numbers. You may think 40+ is a good age to start with the eye cream, but you may get better results purchasing age 50+. Test test test! Sometimes, like with our home woodworking tools, you have a product or service that you are not comfortable that you can adequately narrow your list by the normal qualifiers. You can make certain assumptions about people who are woodworking hobbyists: Mostly Male, Probably Homeowners, but what else do you really know? At this point you may want to consider using a privately "managed" list. These lists are going to cost more per name but will give you a much better way of pinpointing possible customers. For example you could order the subscriber list for Fine Woodworking Magazine. The cost per name would be $0.095 per name compared to the normal average cost of $0.05 per name. These names are nearly double the cost, however you are guaranteed that all of the names you get are for people interested in woodworking and therefore are much more likely to be interested in your product. With the “women over 40” example – some may be wrinkly and some may look quite young and aren’t even thinking of eye cream yet. Managed Lists are not appropriate for all situations, but can be a major help when a very specific target is needed. Don’t fret over the extra cost, the more targeted names will undoubtedly show greater overall returns in the end. The purpose of special mailing lists is to target a specific type of customer for your specific type of business. The eventual end result is more customers and a better bottom line. And this is what we all want, right?

    Start building your list first

Email list building is like this in that you must continually be monitoring your results and take alternative actions to create different results. The same goes for opt-in list building. I only got flames for failing to follow through with the idea by giving some advice on building your own email list. Make your site traffic and/or foot traffic, work for you by building your own opt-in email list and communicating with your visitors and customers. The one-time setup costs are nominal compared to all of the new email list members you'll attract with this simple list building strategy. Using step-building To post a message to all the list members, send email to confirm. Bottom line is that you should be building your list before you start promoting anything online. Many new marketers don't get to building their opt-in list until a year or two after they start dabbling online. I'm hoping to model good list building, tactics and grow subscribers quickly. If you have read this far, then obviously you are a value-seeking list builder who is looking for a real, legitimate list building, process. So, showing me a way to make money from the process of building and growing my ezine list! Without traffic building a list is almost impossible! The idea of giving some advice on building your own email list. My recommendation: Choose a "broad" topic you are interested in and begin building a list of folks interested in that topic. Even if you're an old hand at building lists online, you'll probably find an idea or two here that will be new to you. For the novice beginner or the seasoned veteran; e-mail marketing strategies, list building, techniques and programs. In yet another aspect, the method includes building a list of media elements which can come from a variety of sources. Try several different approaches, or elements from various approaches, until you find the list-building techniques that best complement your brand strategy. Here you will discover tips for building such a list, and new ideas for optimizing it through marketing. The term 'opt-in' should already be familar. Below are some tips for building an opt-in distribution list. This is THE proven most effective method of building huge lists and converting a high percentage of sales with the customized salespage. Give them a chance, by using some of the list-building methods that I have described. Opt-in list building is one of the most important steps you can take in growing your business. Here are some of the best opt-in list building tips: Publish your own newsletter. Keep that in mind, and you'll do a fine job of building an effective list. Email list building is like this in that you must continually be monitoring your results and take alternative actions to create different results. The same goes for email list building. Subject lines what you shouldn t do

The biggest challenge with email is getting people to actually open the message! Many people delete messages without ever opening them. So, how do you avoid ending up in the electronic equivalent of “File Thirteen”? The answer is: by using a good choice of wording in the subject line. The subject line is the field that appears on your screen somewhere below the “To” field when you are creating a new message. On the recipient’s screen, the subject line is one of the only fields that the recipient can read without opening the message. Typically, the other fields are “To,” “From,” “Date Received,” and “Date Sent.” The Gatekeeper The purpose of the subject line is to allow the reader to see at a glance what the message is regarding. The subject line is vital! It’s arguably the most important line you write in an email. Why? Because it serves as gatekeeper, determining whether the message is viewed by the recipient. It doesn’t matter how wonderfully you’ve written the message, if that message isn’t opened and read. The better job you do of crafting a subject line, the better chance you have of getting your message opened. So, how do you write an effective subject line? Leaving It Blank Leaving the subject line blank isn’t an option because many people won’t open messages if they don’t contain a subject. The recipient may not take the time to open a message if he/she doesn’t know what it’s about. Also, the onslaught of vicious email viruses has caused people to be cautious, as well they should be. Many programs will give you a warning box if you try to send a message without a subject line. This protocol in many email programs is in place to warn you that leaving your subject line blank is not a good idea. Avoid “Hi” Typing the word “Hi” or the word “Greetings” in the subject line tells the recipient absolutely nothing. This lack of information might be acceptable for email messages you’re sending to friends. However, when you’re corresponding with customers and colleagues, remember to include a relevant subject line. Keep in mind what to avoid when typing your subject line. Then, you’ll be well on your way to sending emails that are opened and (hopefully!) read.

Successful html email marketing campaigns and lotus notes issues

As the online world changed in the nineties from informational to commercial and highly competitive, marketers embraced the new technology and the need has arisen to send graphically appealing newsletters and marketing messages. You have only seconds to capture attention, and the right picture will grab quicker than the right copy, as they say, "a picture can be worth a thousand words". Just ask your clients if they would use plain white paper, rather than letterhead, to send an offline message to prospects and customers. Today, the vast majority of all email clients can render (that is, display) HTML emails fairly well. Notable exceptions are older versions of Lotus Notes and pre AOL pre version 6.0. So whereas a few years ago the answer to the question was rather complex, today it really comes down to message purpose, subscriber preference and multipart messaging. Studies show that roughly 95 percent of commercial messages sent today are sent as Multi-Part MIME. Multi-part MIME is an older protocol that allows you to send both text and HTML versions of an e-mail in a single package, kind of like a sandwich. The recipient's e-mail program then displays the HTML version, if it is capable of reading that, or the text version, if it is not. MIME stands for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions and is an internet standard for the format of e-mail. Virtually all human written Internet e-mail and a fairly large proportion of automated e-mail is transmitted via SMTP MIME format. SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol and if nothing else, you'll learn a few more acronyms if you stick around. Internet e-mail is so closely associated with the SMTP and MIME standards that it is sometimes called SMTP/MIME e-mail. Folks, while nobody can really agree on numbers and stats, we all agree on this: HTML Email Doesn't Work Properly for Millions of Recipients. HTML email breaks in a wide variety of email inboxes. This isn't due to your creative abilities or lack of HTML knowledge - it's due to the fact that the email client your recipient views your email in routinely breaks your message. I feel like this is worth defining, as I know a lot of people get very scared when we talk about clients and servers, but will not admit it. An email client (some "big picture" folks also call it Mail User Agent) is nothing but a computer program that is used to read and send e-mail, such as Outlook, Lotus Notes, Thunderbird, etc. A mail server (also called a Mail Transfer Agent or MTA, or a mail exchange server) is a computer program that transfers electronic mail messages from one computer to another. Most of the time, since nobody has time to learn all the acronyms and terminology coined by those "big picture" people, we are used to know a mail server as the entire contraption (wires and all) that runs the program. Depending on the email system, your HTML images may be blocked so recipients see a blank white box and/or your live hotlinks may not work properly. AOL 9.0, Outlook 2003, and Gmail are most infamous for blocking and/or breaking HTML, "for security reasons". Another big offender for not letting HTML through is Mel, the guy that works in the corporate IT department. Many corporations have IT departments who can't wait for the day when all attachments and all HTML emails are eradicated. That is because in their world, anything that is not pure text is spam, virii, worms, trojans, spyware, adware, pure evil(ware) that makes mailboxes grow and users growl. As a consequence, most of those cubicle inhabitants - the end users - who have to sign a hundred page policy before they start getting busy on those corporate e-memos, are unable to view and/or send HTML messages, whether the feature is turned off at a server level, or on their computers. Everything else aside, there is no bigger offender here on Earth than Lotus Notes. Lotus Notes is notorious for its refusal to handle Multi-Part MIME the same way the rest of the civilized world does. For your amusement, here is a definition of Lotus Notes that was created by one of those "big picture" executives: "Lotus Notes is a commercial workflow and groupware software package that also provides application developers an environment for quickly creating cross - platform client/server applications". Still with me? Don't be scared. For the purposes of this article, Lotus Notes is an email client. Ok? If you work for a company that uses Lotus Notes as the email system, don't even think about sending newsletters other than in text form from it. Besides the fact that as a general rule, I always recommend to marketers the use of a professional permission based email marketing service, in the Lotus Notes case you just have to. If you communicate to the B2B market, particularly large professional services firms, large lawfirms, many Global 2000 companies, HTML email compatibility will be a thorn in your side, as a lot of these companies use Lotus Notes. The issues include: - Older versions of Lotus Notes (under R5) convert HTML emails to a Lotus Notes Rich Text format. Lotus Notes versions under R5 also do not recognize Multi-Part MIME messages (HTML and text combined in a single email). - Some companies may be deploying later versions of the Lotus Notes client, i. e., R6, but using an older version of Lotus Notes/Domino server such as 4.6. In this example, the recipient's email client would also render an HTML message incorrectly. So for a recipient to view a properly rendered HTML email, a company must use both the Lotus Notes client and server of R5 and above. Here are some quick tips you can take if you have a significant Lotus Notes subscriber base: 1. Include a link at the top of HTML emails named "View Web Version" or something similar. The link sends recipients to a web hosted HTML version of the email (either on the email technology provider's server or the sender's server). 2. Also include an "Update Preferences" link and provide a web site update form that then enables recipients to choose to receive Text rather than HTML. 3. Create complete Text versions for those who prefer not to receive HTML or cannot view HTML. 4. On opt-in forms, include an option to receive a Text version and potentially list tips (i. e., "If you are using Lotus Notes versions below R5, select Text"). In conclusion, I will say it again: Folks, don't try this at home. Instead, always outsource email marketing to one of the many professional services. Advantages are: No blacklists and established relations with the major ISPs, ensuring maximum deliverability (plus, you don't want to be called a spammer and banned from everywhere). They also make it easy to create, send, and track permission-based email, have advanced reporting, message scheduling, the ability to create unlimited lists, bounce back handling (extremely important), subscription management, newsletter templates and many other major industry-standard features. The service I use for my company can be tried free for 15 days, here: bsleek/emailmarketing/

Teaching to build your opt in list

: If you are in the business of selling online, then you are in the business of building an opt-in list and remarketing. Many website owners find that collecting opt-in subscribers is extremely expensive and involves running advertising or renting e-mail lists. These methods can be effective – especially if you happen to sell high-end products with a very limited market size. But regardless of your organization’s size or the cost of your products, finding more cost-effective ways of generating leads is extremely important. For many website owners, providing free information products is an excellent way of improving opt-in subscription ROI. Teach Them And They Will Come The single most popular commodity on the Internet is information. People are starving for it. In fact, information is so important to many people that they spend an enormous amount of time educating themselves online so they can stay informed. Many view this form of continuous education as a competitive advantage they have over their peers, and feel that without it, their careers would suffer. Here’s an example: A CEO schedules a meeting with his technical staff to talk about installing a Voice over IP (VoIP) system in the office. Because he likes to do his homework, the CEO spends an hour or so preparing for the meeting by doing some quick research on the Internet. He searches for “VoIP” on Google, and finds a ton of information about the different types of technologies. With this information he can develop a game plan for his meeting. The company (and website) that does the best job of educating him about VoIP stands a very good chance of getting an opportunity to bid on the project when it gets approved. In this case, the website doesn’t just create a lead for the VoIP company. It actually does something more important – it teaches the prospect to value the unique selling points of the company that provided the educational material. And in the case above, it actually influenced how the project was going to be presented to the prospect’s management team. Later that week, when a competing company calls on the prospect to try to get an appointment, the CEO will be prejudiced against their solution because it does not possess the qualities he has learned to value from the first company. Understanding this dynamic is crucial to building your opt-in list, and it should go a long way in determining your overall online strategy. Effective Methods to Teach Online Depending on your industry, there are a number of ways you can effectively teach online. Following are a few rapid-fire methods we have used in the past that brought great results. White Papers – Inexpensive to produce and with an established distribution system on the Internet, white papers are a great way to get the word out about your organization’s products. These types of publications are primarily used in more technical industries such as software, hardware, medical, and engineering. A couple of distribution channels are: bitpipe and knowledgestorm, but you can also distribute them on your website. Video Tutorials – An emerging method of teaching, video streaming allows organizations to not only teach a prospect about the industry, but also to demonstrate their products. Currently, video tutorials are a favorite among computer software and hardware manufacturers, but their use is rapidly spreading to other areas such as marketing and healthcare. Video tutorials can be marketed through Pay Per Click (PPC) campaigns on search engines as well as a number of new online video search services (Google has recently released a service here: video. google/). EBooks – Because they are relatively inexpensive to produce, eBooks are a favorite form of lead generation for those website owners who have the talent or resources to write long-form text. Ebooks are generally viewed as more educational than white papers, and so may be viewed as a more valuable resource to some people. Ebooks do not need to be hundreds of pages long. In fact, most eBooks are between 50 and 100 pages, and can be promoted through dozens of online directories and distribution portals. Web-based Tutorials – The most flexible method of delivering online content is on your website itself. Using this method, you create password-protected areas that require surfers to register in order to access your information product. The primary benefit of web-based content delivery is that the content can be easily updated at any time. Web-based tutorials are ideal for industries and topics that change often, or where the product itself is delivered via the website. Web-based tutorials can be promoted on your website, through PPC ads, and via your corporate newsletter. If you are in the business of selling products or services online, then it could actually be said that you are also in the business of educating your market. When it comes to your industry, you are the expert. Your prospects are the students, and they have a vested interest in understanding as much as they can about how they can use your products and services to improve their businesses. The companies that build their opt-in lists fastest are usually the ones that do the best job of educating their prospects about their industry. By following this method, you gain a valuable database of leads, and the prospect base learns everything they need to know to be able to purchase your products confidently. The 3 most important things you must do to keep your opt in list

: Having an opt-in list is not just for sending subscribers your promotional newsletters or catalogs. Your opt-in list should be used to build a relationship with each and every person who joins your list, but you must do your part to show respect to those who do decide to subscribe. As with everything, there are numerous things you need to consider in order to avoid some complications associated with email marketing. While there are so many ways you can get people to subscribe to your list, there are also a few things you must do to avoid those same subscribers from wanting to be removed from your list. On top of that, you also want to avoid any problems with the law and/or your internet service provider or ISP . There are now quite a few laws and regulations in place that are designed to help protect the privacy of the internet users from spam and unwanted emails. The use of Email in business has become extremely popular because of the low cost and many company's have seized the opportunity by flooding people's email accounts with nwanted promotional mail. But, with an opt-in list, you don't need to worry about sending unwanted emails because people have chosen to subscribe to your list; they WANT to receive the newsletters and promotional materials from your company. They have consented to being on the list by subscribing themselves. There are times when an email account has been provided by someone other than the real owner so don't forget to put an unsubscribe link in every email you send to your opt-in list. This will help to avoid any confusion and offer an easy way for your subscribers to opt-out whenever they want. It is important that you keep your list clean and manageable by using the many tools provided by either your software of choice or the email/autoresponder host (like Aweber) you use for your opt-in list. Don't worry, the investment you put into your email marketing campaigns is well worth it as you gain a much wider and far more targeted audience that will in turn increase your sales and bring in the profits you are looking for. So now you need to ensure that both your business and yourself are protected from those potential problems associated with email marketing and stay in the good books with both the law and your ISP . Keep your operation legitimate and clean. Your reputation as a legitimate business person and a legitimate website or blog depends on your being a straight and truthful marketer. Here are three things you MUST DO to keep your email marketing on track and out of trouble: 1) Take notice of those unsuccessful sends. These are the emails that bounce. Bounced emails, also known as undeliverable messages, are those messages that, for whatever reason, were not successfully received by the intended recipient. There are different reasons why emails bounce. It could be because the server was busy at the time of your send but can still be delivered later. Or it could be due to the recipients inbox being full. And then there are those emails labeled "undeliverable" that are going to bounce no matter what simply because of an invalid or misspelled email address or because an email address was abandoned and erased already. Manage your list by flagging those accounts that bounce. Erase email addresses from your list so that you have an accurate statistic and record as to how many are actually receiving your mail. You should also check the spellings of the email addresses in your database and watch for things like. con instead of or misspelled host names like hotmial instead of hotmail or even those addresses mixing up the @ sign possibly with the ! or #. Another way to avoid misspelled or incorrect addresses on your list and ensure those that you are adding to your list ACTUALLY subscribed themselves, is to use the Double Opt-in method. This method sends a confirmation link out to anyone who subscribes and will not activate their subscription in your database until they personally have confirmed their email address. Now you will have served two purposes...you have double checked the email address is legitimate and ensured that the person who subscribed truly does want to receive your emails. 2) Always provide "unsubscribe" methods and options on your website and include unsubscribe links in every one of your mailings. When someone on your list sends a request to be unsubscribed, always take it seriously and remove them immediately. (If it's sent personally to my main contact email, I always email them back letting them know they have been unsubscribed then save both theirs and my emails in case of further dispute) . If you don't take them off your list and you keep sending them your emails, you are now sending them spam mail. When you are reported as a spammer, you and your business can get into a lot of trouble. You can be reported to the authorities and maybe blacklisted by many internet service providers. You will lose a lot of subscribers this way and many more in potential subscribers. 3) Avoid any pornographic or shocking and disturbing content in your newsletters. You can't know who the person reading your email is and what may offend them. Keep your emails clean and family friendly at all times. Controversial issues should also be avoided. If you focus on the nature of your business and stay clear of anything that could potentially be considered harmful or offensive you should avoid any problems. So, keep these 3 tips in mind when preparing your next email. Build a strong and healthy relationship with your readers, show them the respect they deserve and you'll find yourself growing a very successful opt-in list full of people truly wanting to read your emails and purchase what you have to offer.

    The autoresponder and the woman

Copyright 2006 Karl Stadler Autoresponder is not the name of some cool dude or a new automatic device that can actually understand a woman correctly all the time. There might however be some faint similarities between women and autoresponders but this is not my place to say, neither would I ever dare. But what do women and autoresponders have to do with each other? Well read on and find out. We all receive them daily, those pesky messages in our inbox. Most generated by an autoresponder. But still there are some that we open and read. Now why do you think that is? Let’s turn back the clock and have a look at how exactly we got to this point. Since the advent of the internet using it for sales and marketing has become more and more lucrative. It has now become highly evolved and competitive that everyone is looking for new and better ways to market. There have been all sorts of different tried and tested methods but the one that has stood the test of time is email marketing. Based on this it is pure common sense that a list of email addresses and names are extremely profitable. At first you had to send each mail yourself, and so it went on until the advent of the autoresponder. It would be similar to the discovery of fire many years ago. Suddenly we had cooked food so we invented pots and pans, found India and wonderful spices, discovered coffee, which I think is the most important of all, steam driven power, electricity and so on. Subsequently all of these have been improved over time to make our lives easier. So has the autoresponder. We fill in a form on a page or popup and instantly we receive a nice message with our name neatly in the title and we feel honored. But that only lasts until we know about autoresponders of course. The autoresponder is a fantastic tool and it allows you to get on with other work. It is the use of the autoresponder to build relationships with your clients that has lost its touch, and consequently for many marketers it effectiveness as a sales tool. You opted in, so they are allowed to send you a message. The only problem is nine out of ten of these messages are trying to sell something. Now don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with using opt in email to sell products, what is a problem is that every message from the same sender is a sales message. I must be honest, if I subscribe to a newsletter or other form of opt in and the first three messages I receive from them are sales letters disguised as newsletters they all get added to the junk folder or I unsubscribe. Good information and building a relationship with your subscribers is not selling to them with every email. All over the internet software called autoresponders are bombarding their unsuspecting subscribers with sales letters. You get them too, and think for yourself, how much have you purchased from any of those letters? It is true and proven that most customers will buy after about seven attempts, and this is also where the most sales will take place. But will he buy if he has no relationship with you? You did promise him something of value when they subscribed didn’t you? So what have you given in order to receive? Many list owners do not want to make the effort to really build a relationship with their subscribers. They will all tell you that they do, but in reality it is actually really hard work. It is much easier writing seven or so emails based on a sales letter disguised as useful information than it is to write something of real value to your subscriber. Let’s turn back the clock a few thousand years. If you were a male you would have to go out and hunt, if you think writing is hard work, grab a bow and arrow and slog behind some animals for a few days and see which one you prefer. If you were a woman you had to attend to the fields, kids, fetch water, cook food and so the list goes on. Except for fetching water from the river and tending to the fields I think women still do most of these chores. So on second thought you do have an excuse. In view of the last statement, ladies you are excused, this is only applicable to lazy males. If you have a little time on your hands though, you should definitely give it a go. Your autoresponder can considerably increase your sales and it should not seem that all of your emails are coming from some pre-programmed software. Just putting a name in the headline does not personalize the email you have to talk to your subscriber. Make each email contain valuable information to what the subscriber opted in for in the first place. Each piece of information should be complete, meaning that he will be able to use it without having to buy a product or subscribing to a site. Add your personal touch to the mails and actually write them yourself, don’t just copy and paste. Make your headline interesting not the same old same old as you see on every second email. Once you give useful information that can actually be implemented you will find that your open rate for your emails will increase and subscribers will actually read your emails, whether they come from the autoresponder or not. In this way you will build credibility and a rapport with your subscribers so when you do offer them a product or service they will be eager to buy from you. The bottom line is that is you want to receive you will have to give. Women know how to do this men have to learn, sorry guys!

The best kept secret of email marketers

Copyright 2006 Karin Manning A popular way for companies to communicate directly with consumers today is to use email. Email serves a variety of functions including sales promotions and being a means of education about products and services. Messages also can include branding with logos and/ or tag lines, and they can offer direct response tools like reply links, emails, telephone and fax numbers. Basic email message writing comes across much better with skill that can be learned. Main focus should be placed on the tone of speech and grammatical language in the body of the message. Here are some points which should be remembered for writing the email. The subject line should be exciting, making the reader want to open the mail and read the further text. Keep the subject line brief. Make sure to include details about the sender to comply with spamming laws. Check spamcop or other “anti-spam” sites in your favorite search engine for more info. Develop the body of the email; i. e. the message, with a good introduction followed by well-described paragraphs. Avoid hype and misleading readers. Use your email spelling and grammar check tools. And don’t “shout” or use all capital letters. Practice and read emails that come your way. Learn to write messages that you’d like to receive and improve your communications. When you create email messages to send, do like the Boy Scouts and “Be Prepared.” Prepare with a small arsenal of marketing tools to use in advance as follows. Marketing Tools Folder – create a folder on your computer & in print form for “email marketing” and keep ideas you have for future campaigns there. Save favorite emails there you get from others, too, as inspiration. You can use these as templates to create your own unique messages. Headlines – Start a Microsoft Word or text document where you list favorite headlines and ideas for future headlines. PS – People like to head straight to this area first, many gurus say. So Create a document in your email marketing folder with favorite “PS” remarks; special sales, freebies, etc. Guarantee – Ditto with guarantees. Which guarantees are listed on items you’ve purchased recently? Use these as starters. They attracted you! Reference Guides – Keep handy reference sites like Dictionary or favorite encyclopedias book marked in a special Favorites folder on your computer. Keep print editions available nearby, too! With the right bunch of marketing tools gathered ahead, you can “Be Prepared.” Start gathering your arsenal for great email marketing campaigns. The main way to communicate effectively via email is to target the right audience with your message. This largely depends upon what you are trying to sell and to whom you are trying to sell. Email writing should hopefully have one or more affects on the readers. Recipients should feel the satisfaction of reading the message and want to continue reading, like in further messages you send later. And / or they should want to follow up directly for more information or to purchase. For this the writer must imply some techniques for making the writing more effective. Basic Outline - Begin with a basic outline; an opening sentence that leads into your opening paragraph. Then discuss no more than 3 main points. And end with a close and invitation to purchase, visit a website for more information, instructions to sign up for a freebie or other direct response. Eye-Friendly - People see a lot during each day. So make your message clear and make it stand out. Keep sentences short & to the point. And use bullets and headings. So avoid as many negative responses as possible when readers get your email messages. Instead of readers asking to unsubscribe from further messages and / or delete the ones you’ve sent, practice effective skills in your communications.

    The danger of email marketing

Email is a good way to stay in touch with customers because when people come online, one of the first thing they do is check their emails. Email list is still the most valuable asset online. No wonder email volumes continue to grow. EMarketer study found that e-mail volume in the US will rise to nearly 2.7 trillion by 2007. Keep your audience email with you. Your blog or any other facilities online should have email notification built into it. But one of the major problems online is unwanted commercial bulk email otherwise called spam. When you send bulk mail, it drains and affects the server so the authorities are after those who send unsolicited commercial bulk mail. And they have built technologies and filters that prevent bulk mails going into inbox. After researching or developing products, you send email to a list only to discover that the subscriber never saw it because a spam blocker or filter sends your emails into a spam box or bulk folder—spam will frustrate your traffic. What about if it is solicited? In the early days of the Internet, people willingly subscribed to mailing list but now they’ve stopped. Nobody wants ads. So it is almost impossible to get a large solicited email list. DoubleClick study found that 64.7% of all legitimate emails sent are never opened. Filters and triggers will block your emails and newsletters even if it is permission-based. People can now identify a commercial email by merely looking at it. So if you send 10, 000 bulk emails, only about 3000 gets in, and 100 are actually opened and 40 read while the rest are deleted. Some people report email as spam and delete it even though they subscribed themselves. If you send a confirmation email so that you can know those who really want you, you will only shrink your list. You will be surprised that nobody will subscribe unless those that want to research your product or market. And if you spam, you will get listed in spamming database. Spamming database is where email providers verify what is and is not spam. Every time you send out an email, it’s has an IP address attached to it. If your IP gets into the database: your ranking may go down, your host could de-host you, your payment processor could banned you, and you could be sending emails that are being blocked If you link to blacklisted sites, you often get blacklisted too. To avoid getting caught in spam filters or being blocked by ISPs: don’t spam; let your subscribes add your site to their address book; some words and phrases trigger spam filters like weight, subscribe, sell, download etc. The trick is to add symbol (like an apostrophe, asterisk or dash) in the middle of words. And hope that filter doesn’t arbitrarily block you. If you are selling something in your subject line, spam filter will likely block you. Spam and email overload have actually cut down email marketing success by about 60%. Use it only to substitute other traffic techniques. The importance of an email list for your online business and how to create one

For any business whether offline or online you need customers. It's much easier to get potential customers into your online store, or business website, by a number of different means, search engine traffic, adverts of many kinds, or from links on other sites. It doesn't matter how they got there in the first place, as long as they buy, you can capture some details then and send them updates on your later offers or deals. But what about if these visitors don't buy, how do you bring them back again if you offer a better deal in the future, or have new products they may be interested in? That's where an email list becomes your best friend, and online businesses biggest asset. You need to capture those email addresses before the visitor leaves. This is so important that the big name online marketers make building a subscriber list one of their main activities. Some of the figures bandied about concerning email lists may be erroneous, but from my own personal experience, they're not too far out, so I will repeat them here. Figures quoted for the value of each subscriber range from 50 cents to 1 dollar per subscriber per month, so the larger the subscriber list you have the more you can make each month, you do the maths for yourself. There is a caveat to this, your subscriber list needs to be targeted, ie it's no use trying to sell high heeled shoes to a predominately male audience, or sending your best ad for gardening tools to people who sign up on a site about rap music, if they have little interest you won't make anything. It's also claimed that sales increase after the potential customer has received several emails from an online business, and the extra sales are in the order of over 50% of customers purchase when they are more comfortable with the seller following receipt of the emails. So now we know the value of having an email list, how do we start to build our own subscriber base? The easiest method is to use an online "autoresponder" such as getresponse which you can preload with messages ready to send to anyone who signs up. Then you will need a way for your website visitors to subscribe to your newsletter or sales letter series, all good autoresponders will give you some html code ready to paste into your webpages into which visitors can place their name and email address as a minimum, and some will allow you to include boxes for more information should you require it. You now need to post this code into a visible spot in your webpage(s) and make it as easy as possible for your visitor to sign up for your email subscriber list. Now you have a way to capture contact details to give you a second chance at making a sale even after your visitor has left your site. So that's it sit and wait for those subscribers to sign up. Hold on a minute, why would they want to sign up for your newsletter, or email series? You need to give the visitor a good reason to subscribe to your list, after all they probably already get enough emails from spam, friends sending them the latest joke, and other online businesses who have their address, so you need to sweeten the deal in their favour. One of the easiest ways to attract subscribers is to offer a free gift for subscribing. The gift can be as simple as making the emails a course to teach them something about the topic of your website, a free ebook (there are plenty available on a variety of subjects if you don't have one to give away already, search in your favourite search engine) or you could offer a competition where subscribers can win one of your products. Whatever you do, try to make it an offer the visitor will find it hard to turn down, and they will subscribe to get it. So these are the reasons to start your own subscriber list, and an overview of how to start getting subscribers, but what sort of emails should you send as your list grows? Obviously if you are just selling something, and want to remind visitors why they went to your site in the first place, then send them some information about your product(s) in a series of emails, and include a reminder of the original link so they can go back to review the salespage and hopefully buy. There is a more subtle way though. Information is why most people are looking on the internet, so it makes sense to make your emails informational, and gently bring your sales pitch to the subscribers as part of the information. If you don't have time to write your own informational articles, you can search in article directories for ones written on the topic your site and newsletter deal with, just follow the directories terms for using the articles. These articles can then be preloaded into your autoresponder along with your additional promotional text, ready to be sent. Once it is setup, it can be all left to run automatically. Hopefully you will now see the benefits of using email newsletters to increase your online business, or website visits, and see that it's not too difficult to get started. An article of this type can only give you an overview of the basics of email subscriber lists for online businesses, but there is plenty more available online, and I'd recommend you to find out more about it, especially how to avoid spam complaints. But most importantly, start your own email subscriber list today, and watch your business grow.

The importance of email and product development

Do you have your website up and running for your online business? How did you create your website? Your website should be a basic webpage that is free of busy flash features and a myriad of options. The appearance of you website is just the beginning. Next, you need to work on your email database development. Online businesses revolve around their customer email lists. You send emails to promote your products and services. Perhaps you send articles related to your product and service. You may send offers for free e-courses via email. These tools are advantageous if your emails are delivered to your intended customer. Unfortunately it is much more difficult to get emails to your customers due to spammers. Spam filters have improved their filters making it much more difficult to deliver emails that may have been delivered successfully in the past. So how can you work around the spam filters? You can try direct-to-desktop technology to avoid these complications. Direct-to-desktop technology will send every single email by skipping the email system. In addition, Blogs are another method you can use as direct-to-desktop technology because it is not filtered. Avoid sending email in HTML format because the spam filters will stop your email flat. Use plain text instead. Or, an even better option is direct-to-desktop technology. Direct-to-desktop technology actually shows up as a blinking message in your desktop message tray. The message says that you have a “message waiting”. Once you click on this icon a box pops up on your computer. This type of system bypasses the email system. Direct-to-desktop technology is beneficial because you can send HTML messages, videos, audio files, etc. Basically, anything you can put on a webpage can be placed in these messages. Plus, you don’t have to worry about the spam filters. The next step after email database development is to focus on product development. The content you create can be distributed in a plethora of formats. For example, your content can be distributed by CD, DVD, eBook, web cast, pamphlet, teleseminar, e-course, etc. This will allow you to sell content in different formats. The various formats are profitable because some users prefer to read a hard copy pamphlet while others like to listen to the content on CD. As you can see, building an valuable website is just the first step. You need to engage in email database and product development as wellpleting these three tasks will enable you to have a website that is not only appealing to the customers, but sells as well.

The importance of email marketing metrics

One of the great benefits of email marketing is that it delivers measurable metrics. To run a successful email marketing campaign, you need to monitor and understand email statistics such as Open Rate, Click-Through Rate (CTR), Bounce Back rate etc. Understanding these metrics will allow you to improve your email marketing campaign and achieve better results. 1. Basic Email Metrics you should evaluate in each email campaign: Open Rate – that is the total number of emails opened (in HTML format) divided by total emails delivered/distributed. Click-Thru Rate (CTR) – calculated as the number of unique clicks on links in the email divided by the number of emails opened. It basically means how many people interacted with your email. Bounce Rate – represents the total number of emails that were not delivered and bounced back. There are several reason why the email was rejected such as the email address is no longer valid, a server filtered the email out, or the recipient’s mailbox was full and over quota. Based on your unique email marketing campaigns objectives, you can measure more advanced statistics such as: - Number of Emails Open based on Region/Country - Number of Click-Thru based on Region/Country - Number of Sales based on Region/Country/referring URL - Conversion (Click to Sales) Rate - Total Revenue per campaign - Return on Investment (ROI) per campaign 2. What metrics you should focus on? Well, this really depends on your campaigns objectives. Open rate is a very important indicator to some extent however to get a better picture of your campaign performance, it should be analyzed in combination with other metrics - such as click through rate (CTR) and click to action rate (conversion rate). Why is that? Because CTR and conversion rate are able to tell you how many recipients took an action you wanted them to take, such as purchased your product, signed up to your newsletter, downloaded the whitepaper etc. Whereas the open rate will only tell you how many people read your email. So in order to measure the effectiveness of your message, you need to go beyond the open rate down to the action level. 3. How to boost the Click-Through Rate (CTR)? Savvy email marketers not only want to get the email opened and read but also want to know how many people clicked through (measured by CTR) and they want this number to be as high as possible. There are few key points in each email you should review because they critically influence the open rate and CTR. Those are: Subject Line and Greeting: Make you subject line attractive. Subject line is one of the most important factors that may affect your email campaign results. However, please do not over "optimize" your subject line otherwise it may look like spam email and the client could delete it without opening it. Keep the subject line short and specific, and if possible address the subscriber by his/her name. Compelling Offer: It should be obvious from the first paragraph what you offer as well as why the offer is important to the recipient and how he/she can benefit from it. The first paragraph should grab the attention so don't write it too long. Include your offer on top of your email and make your offer attractive to the recipient (discount and free offers usually make users to click). Call-for-action: Always include "call-for-action" button or link to instruct the user to click for more details. Spam issue: "Spam" issue may affect your successful open rate tremendously. Most of the ISP and hosting companies have implemented the "spam filter" that can filter out suspected spam emails. Please try to avoid using any common suspected spam words such as "free offer", "money", "30 day guarantee", "free trial". Message Design and Structure: Use same colors and images in your emails; this will help people recognize your brand. When you have a lengthy message, try to include interactive links so people can access more information through your website. Also, very few people read the email word by word, most of readers just scanning the message to quickly find out what's in it for them. Keep this in mind and structure your email - include headings to separate the message and use bullets so the reader can easily see listed features or benefits. Today's readers are busy people and it usually takes them just few seconds to decide whether to read your message or delete it. So construct your message carefully and monitor your email statistics to find out what works best for your business.

The power of local email marketing

: As a local business owner you realize the opportunities available on the Web, but you probably do not have the time or money to invest into a full blown web presence. The obstacles and costs in building a web site keep many local businesses on the sideline. But as a local business there is an opportunity to exploit the marketing power of the Internet at little or no cost, and it does not require a web presence. Through email marketing you can have a direct conduit to both your customers and prospects. You may think email marketing is complicated, but that is a misconception. If you are already using email to correspond, then you are quite capable of advertising through virtual mail. In fact, if you are communicating to your customers through email, in a sense you are already marketing online. You are probably aware that a small amount of customer communication can be very profitable, and email can generate considerable income.

All you need to do is start collecting customer emails, and send them occasional promotions or sale updates. The email advertisements do not need to be coded in html, plain text messages are quite acceptable. So how do you start down the road to Internet marketing success?

You begin by simply collecting customer email addresses, with their permission. Permission email marketing is a requirement. It is referred to as opt-in marketing. At all stages of email marketing you MUST respect your customers and their privacy.

Only when they have accepted your request to send information, should you forward email promotions. How do You Collect Customer Emails? You simply ask! As a local business owner you are constantly in touch with customers and prospects, either in person or on the phone. As a retail business you could have a clipboard by your register or pre-printed index cards that your customers can fill-out. As a service business you just ask for their email address when you make contact. What's in it for Your Customers? The opportunity to save money or be notified of special offers. People are always looking for a bargain, and through email you can keep them informed on the latest deals, in addition you can alert them to new services or products. This is very appealing. And customers will perceive this as a value added service, that makes doing business with you more appealing. How Difficult is Email Marketing? It is quite simple. If you email friends or family, you are quite capable of marketing through email. Initially your list will be small so you can manage it through the use of your current email client like MicroSoft Outlook. You place your customer emails in a "group," compose a message, and hit the send button. Not exactly rocket science. (Note: Make sure you use the "blind box" feature.) But from the start, you may want to consider using a professional email management service like ConstantContact. They have a service that is free for lists that are under 50. Their next level handles up to 500, and cost only $15 per month. A service like Constant Contact simplifies the management of your list. These types of services offer features like tracking, reporting, templates and customer support. In addition, they automate the process of people opting out of your list. An important factor with permission email marketing. What Results Can You Expect? Think about the potential profit from simply keeping your customers informed. This is not invasive advertising, but permission marketing, where your customers have willingly given their consent to receive your advertisements. It is like they are saying, "Please allow me to spend more money with your business." If you already have a web site then you will also want to add an opt-in box. Give your site visitors an opportunity to join your promotional list. Many will. From a marketing perspective it doesn't get anymore targeted then this. And your advertising costs are insignificant. A perfect example is a local wine store owner who works her list twice a week with special promotions. She makes a killing, and often sells out her promotional inventory through email alone. As a local business owner there are opportunities and there are golden opportunities. This one is solid 24 karat. It's simple, direct and very profitable. And yet few local businesses are taking advantage of email marketing. Why not lead the pack.
