    The automatic champion

“Babe” Didrickson Zaharias was a phenomenal athlete. This Texan ran, jumped, rode horses, and played basketball and baseball—with tremendous flair. In the Olympic tryouts in 1932, she won five first places in track and field events. In the games of that year in Los Angeles, she won a gold medal in the women’s 80 meter hurdles, a gold medal in the javelin throw, and a silver medal in the high jump. After the Olympics, Zaharias turned to golf. Although she started from scratch, she won the National Women’s Amateur and the British Women’s Amateur. The press hailed her as a “natural athlete.” They often referred to as an “automatic champion.” But the real story behind Zaharias fairy-tale success was her painstaking diligence. Her success came from studied repetition. In every sport she undertook, she was methodical, deliberate, and persistent. She was neither “natural” nor “automatic.” When, for example, she played golf for the first time, she did not automatically master the game. Instead she studied the game carefully, covering all its complex skill sets, under the tutelage of the finest golf teacher she could find. She looked at all the elements of the golf swing, broke it down into parts, then put it all together in a fluid movement. Besides using an analytical approach to understand the game, Zaharias also locked the information into her motor nervous system through exhaustive practice. She would spend as many as 12 hours a day on the golf course, hitting as many as a thousand balls. Her hands would often becomes so sore that she could hardly grip her club. She stopped only long enough to tape up her hands before picking up the club again. Zaharias learned to play golf the right way. She started out by hiring an exceptional teacher. She analyzed each part of the golf swing then put them all together in a fluid motion. She practiced for about 12 hours a day. She exercised self-discipline and self-sacrifice. And she didn’t doubt herself. Her previous successes had created an enduring self-confidence. She believed that if she applied herself she would be a golf champion. She proved this belief true. Zaharias took a risk. She risked her reputation as an athlete by trying something new. She also risked the time and money it cost her to perfect her new sport. Above all, she was methodical in the way she went about inventing herself as a champion golfer. She chose a gifted teacher, studied all aspects of the game, and put her new knowledge into practice, converting theory into motor learning, coordination, and stamina.

The demand for sexier halloween costumes is increasing every year

The trend toward sexier Halloween costumes has been skyrocketing in recent years. These outfits have surpassed children's costumes in demand, leading companies to increase their stock of these types of outfits by leaps and bounds. Large buyers are also asking for more and more of these costumes. Whether it's the influence of shows like "Sex and the City" or the convergence of fashion even on holidays, sexy costumes are all the rage for all ages. These outfits are showing more leg and midriff, and sexy versions of classic characters are emerging. In addition, while many customers will put a cap on what they are willing to spend on costumes, they will often go the extra mile for the accessories needed to put the finishing touches on an outfit, such as wigs, eyelashes, nails and jewelry. Fashionable and sexy are overlapping in all walks of life, and Halloween is no exception. Increasingly, contemporary styles are being reflected in Halloween costumes, and higher-quality fabrics and embellishments are being used. Fashion-conscious shoppers want to wow other party goers rather than scare them, and they know exactly what they want to accomplish this trick. Halloween has become less a holiday to these shoppers than a reason for putting their style on display. Where Halloween once existed in its own realm, it is now an event that has become in sync with style trends. An area that will expand this year and in coming years is the middle ground. Parents and children will always disagree on what is tasteful and not, and even adults occasionally are at odds with what they feel comfortable wearing. Some customers just wan t to be flirty and playful, while others desire more revealing looks. The argument between what is too sexy and what is not sexy enough will linger, but companies are entering the fray by offering more costumes that lie somewhere in the middle. The best news for customers is that, due to increased demand and competition among businesses that sell Halloween costumes, quality, creativity and choices are rising. The result is better and better costumes with more variety and size options-and the customer always wins in such situations. Costume Party Shop has stayed ahead of the trend toward sexier Halloween costumes by compiling an enormous collection of sexy costume. We have outfits and accessories to fill all of your needs, plus a wealth of ideas for you to choose from. We're constantly updating our offerings to make sure that you'll be the talk of your next Halloween party.

The dot com era is back

In a recent article titled "Internet use threatens to overtake TV in Canada" it discusses the threat of online marketing to traditional media sources in Canada. This isn't a a threat anymore in the US. It is a fact. An article written by Thomas Mucha from Business 2.0 says: People are spending more time online than watching TV, which gives marketers a better chance to reach consumers in a place where they are just one click away from making a purchase. "More than 75 percent of companies using the Internet to advertise report confidence in their return on investment," writes the study's lead author, Jupiter Research senior analyst Gary Stein. This confidence, Stein argues, will sustain spending momentum across all the key online ad areas: paid search, display ads, classified ads, and rich media. Interesting to note that two studies are similar. Although The Ipsos Reid study of Canada claims radio is losing more interest than TV in Canada, it may soon lose to the Internet as well. Mr. Mucha claims 40 percent of total spending by 2010 will be paid advertisements on Google, Yahoo and MSN to an estimate of $19 billion per year. Not much wonder why the search engines are trying to dominate each other and the marketplace. The one that becomes the most popular will also make the most money. What will become of the little guy? Will it put an end to buying keywords for ad placement on search engines? Will the small business owner get shoved out of the picture? Maybe not altogether... but let's face it. If GM decides they want to use the keywords you are using, can you afford to compete? The search engines will be laughing "all the way to the bank" and the cost per clicks will just keeping going up... (he-he) similar to the price of gasoline at the pumps these days. Even though the cost of clicks may get pricey, the major search engines will always have to index relevant websites and include these results and return them on any keyword search. Professional sites (versus linkfarm, affiliate, spam sites) will always be in favour, and the sooner business can get their company sites built, if they haven't already; the better. Google seems to be the top search engine right now, and new sites often get sandboxed. If they hold on to their dominant position, new websites want to make sure this doesn't happen to them. I've always felt that there was something Google was doing that gave some sites more relevance than others in its index, but wasn't sure how it was applied. At the Search Engine Strategies conference last week in San Jose, California, Rand Fishkin learned that Google places some new Web sites, "regardless of their merit, or lack thereof, in a sort of probationary category" for six months to a year to "allow time to determine how users react to a new site, who links to it, etc." On a final piece of advice he suggests: "Several people have also predicted that Yahoo! or MSN may take up similar techniques to help stop spam. This phenomenon could seriously undermine new SEO/Ms and new campaigns, but it is a possibility. My recommendation is not to discount this possibility and launch projects or at least holding sites and their promotional efforts ASAP. The web environment right now is still relatively friendly to new sites, but will certainly become more competitive and unforgiving with time, no matter what search engine filters exist." Although it is starting to sound a little like the "Dot Com era is back" it will be a little different this time around. In 2000 when it went bust, it is partly because the percentage of consumers purchasing online didn't justify the amount of spending. There was a lack of confidence. It is different now. Jupiter's study shows that "73 percent of Americans who use the Internet have made a purchase online and four out of five of these potential shoppers have responded to an online ad."

The effects of the banning online gambling

Everyone talks about the negative impact of online gambling, but they are not talking about the negative impact of banning online gambling. A reason for banning online casinos was to make sure that underage children were not using thee parents credit cards to gamble online, but besides the fact that most online casinos did everything possible to ensure to verify the age of the account holder before allowing any gambling to occur, but by banning it you are only stopping the law abiding casinos from taking bets and not the less reputable online casinos. They will use third party account like PayPal ore Click2pay which provide a loophole in the new law. By banning an activity especially such a popular activity as online gambling all that can be expected to happen is for people to find ways around the law, such as the Speakeasies of the 1920’s. A Speakeasy was a nightclub that served Alcohol during prohibition and was usually hidden in the back rooms of pet stores and innocent looking book stores. Every time a speakeasy was raided the next night another one was opened, and this is what will happen with these online casinos. If the government finds one operating in the USA and gets it shut down or manages to stop the money flowing to it then another will open. By regulating online gambling the government would know exactly who was running the casino to make sure they were running it honestly and within all the laws, and it would help make sure that the criminal element did not get rich and gain power a second time in the history of the USA because of a bad lawmaking decision. Another reason given for the ban of online gambling was to help protect against a rise in problem gamblers from have casino gamming in your home 24 hrs a day, but no proof has ever been found that shows that people who would normally not be inclined to go to a casino and gamble would decide to do it just because it was now in their homes. The facts actually show a steady rate of people with gambling problems and growing at the same rate it has been growing for over 25 years. Many experts are now saying that there are some positives to the online gambling ban, but those positives would be even better if the industry was properly legalized and not, just by putting a mostly unenforceable law in place. But this to be a pattern the government seems to always make, it is much like the war on drugs. Last time I checked thee was still a drug problem in this country even though drugs are illegal, yet in countries like Holland where the use of soft drugs like hash and grass are legal the number people with drug problems is much lower per capita then in the USA. This is because the money that is brought in the form of taxes from these sales goes to fund the public schools where they properly educate kids on the negative effects of these drugs, so most of the people who smoke are tourists and not the locals. Maybe one day the government will learn from its past mistakes and make things right.

    The fashion police

Casually doing a bit of window shopping a few years back in one of Italy’s ‘oh so fashionable’ little lane ways, I noticed that pointy toe stiletto’s were everywhere. Glancing down at my round toe Mary Jane’s I’d just purchased before leaving Australia, I was feeling both repulsed and anxious. Repulsed because I thought pointy toe stiletto’s were ugly, and anxious because I knew it was only a matter of time before I would be forking out the lire to purchase them. Two weeks later, I had succumbed. The trend had gotten the better of me, despite how ridiculous I looked when the heels got caught in the uneven Italian pavement every time I walked down the street (which was about every three steps). So what was it that changed my mind? I believe the answer lies in the hands of, well, a handful of people called ‘Trend Analysts’ AKA The Fashion Police. Their job: to serve and protect the commercial interests of fashion companies across the globe. How? By dissecting the public's psychology of what will be the next trend will be by way of extensive travel and shopping expeditions (those bastards). These ‘trend analysts’ then report back to analysis companies, who then go on to consolidate their findings in industry magazines and websites for the use of fashion companies. I’d like to say that fashion companies use analysis companies because they’re lazy, but it’s certainly not the case. They’re just scared to make a mistake (can you imagine manufacturing 1000 pairs of high waisted skinny leg jeans only to find that everyone was going for low rise bootleg? Ebay auctioning them is NOT a solution here). There are also unbelievable time constraints between the seasons. So most designers design their range around what they are fed, and if they’re lucky they get to travel around Europe and Japan to buy garments to ‘take inspiration from’. This is why we get a slight variation of the trend theme every season; all our designers are shopping in the same store in London! If you want to see something really interesting, just observe the women with suitcases in major department stores buying size ten (when they are size 12) at the start of every season. Ask them what they do for a living. Can you see we are at the hands of a conspiracy!? We need to take action. I urge you to burn your pleather Fendi bags! Let’s make up our own trends! I myself am going to knit and extended version of the merkin (If you don’t know what one is, I advise you Google it because I’m certainly not about to explain). Yep, it’s going to be a toasty winter for me rugged up in my black merkin cardigan… Which brings me back to my original thought at the beginning of this piece (merkins also have the power to bring people back to what they were originally thinking). What was it that made me buy those pointy toe high heels I now so dearly cherish? I believe it comes down to one word: agreement. Agreement by trend analysts, agreement by industry magazines, agreement by designers, agreement in fashion magazines, agreement throughout the stores, and finally, agreement by you. Agreement creates our fashion reality. Not always bad, but within the safety of agreement comes a lack of innovation. And that’s why we need those quirky fashion revolutionaries; so we can steel their ideas, manufacture them times a million, and sell the homogenized version back to you. Back to square one. We again enter into a state of agreement. Weird world we’re living in ain’t it? Now where did I put my knitting needles and my merkin ‘wool’ supply..?

    The history of sunglasses

It may shock you to learn that sunglasses weren’t always used to protect people’s eyes from the sun. The history of sunglasses dates back to ancient China and Rome. It has been reported that the Roman emperor Nero enjoyed watching gladiator fights through polished gems. In China, sunglasses were used in the twelfth century or even earlier. Sunglasses were first made out of lenses that were flat panes of smoky quartz. These types of sunglasses could not correct vision, or protect from harmful UV rays, but did reduce glare. Chinese judges used the smoky quartz glasses to hide their facial expressions when they interrogated witnesses. Sunglasses did not undergo further changes until about the eighteenth century because of the work of James Ayscough. He experimented with tinted lenses in spectacles. Ayscough was steadfast in the belief that glasses tinted with a blue or green color could potentially correct specific vision problems. Ayscough was not concerned with protecting the eyes from the suns rays. Sunglasses underwent the change into the popular item they are today when Sam Foster introduced them to America in 1929. These sunglasses were designed to protect people’s eyes from the sun. Foster sold his sunglasses on the beaches of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Foster’s sunglasses were sold at Woolworth on the boardwalk. In 1936, sunglasses became polarized when Edwin H. Land began using his patented Polaroid filter when making sunglasses. Around this time, even more Americans started buying sunglasses. Famous movie stars and musicians also began to wear sunglasses. They started to become not only a way to protect against sun glare, but also a way to be “cool.” Sunglasses became a cultural phenomenon, and some people wore them even when it wasn’t sunny, or when they were indoors. Today, sunglasses continue to have advances. UV protection has almost become an industry standard, and there are sunglasses available for a variety of sports. There are numerous tints available for sunglasses, and sunglasses have changed styles over the years. Prescription glasses have also been given tints that only appear when the sun’s rays hit the glasses. In 2004, Oakley developed a brand of sunglasses that had a built-in digital audio player. Many blind people now wear sunglasses, and many recognizable celebrities can be found wearing sunglasses. Even fictional characters can be seen wearing them. Sunglasses have come a long way from their early Roman and Chinese history!

The history of turnbull and asser shirts

Turnbull and Asser, the world renowned menswear manufacturer, has won international recognition for its stylish well-tailored clothing. The brand is known especially for its classic bespoke shirts which are commonly associated with elegance and high quality. In fact, the production of custom shirts is the main company's trump card, making it lead the market of prestige clothing. Apart from that, Turnbull and Asser produces exquisite ties, formal wear, outwear, sleepwear, made-to-measure suits, jackets, cashmere clothing and all kinds of chic accessories, like gloves, cuff-links, hats, umbrellas and leather goods. Established in 1885 by Reginald Turnbull and Ernest Asserand, the company started with hosiery and opened its first shop under the name of “John Arthur Turnbull”. As Turnbull and Asser had a favorable location, adjoining elite gentlemen's clubs, the shop quickly gained popularity among noble clientele. Since 1903 Turnbull and Asser flagship has been situated on Jermyn Street, London; however, the company also has two American stores, in Beverly Hills and New York City. The current owner of Turnbull and Asser is Ali al-Fayed who renewed the Jermyn Street store and founded two branches in the USA. Though traditionally Turnbull and Asser manufactured menswear, nowadays it offers clothing for ladies as well. Thus, T&A clients include the famous actress Gwyneth Paltrow, as well as many other celebrities. Turnbull and Asser clothing, and especially its bespoke shirts, are distinguished by classic, yet very bold and fashion-conscious design, vivid colours and high-end fabrics, most of which are woven in Italy. Shirts come in various sizes and styles, and even if a man can't find anything to his taste, made-to-measure shirts are available. Personal service has made Turnbull and Asser an unsurpassed shirt manufacturer, leaving behind other competitors. Although the store doesn't feature low prices, the number of buyers is constantly increasing. Regular clients of the Jermyn Street store admit that products are characterized by considerable longevity, and, having purchased a custom shirt, one can wear it for years without looking unfashionable. Almost from the very beginning Turnbull and Asser served royalty, politicians and celebrities, selling gorgeous custom shirts to Sir Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, the Prince of Wales, Sean Penn, Ben Stiller and other famous people. Perhaps, the best experience from the point of view of Turnbull and Asser's promotion was its collaboration with the 007 series. Bonds of different generations, from Sean Connery to Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, sported elegant cotton Turnbull and Asser bespoke shirts while they were saving the humanity from all kinds of disasters. Actually Ian Fleming was a T&A fan himself…

The how to s of choosing your lady s scent

If finding the right perfume for your woman is one hard feat to conquer, follow these tips and you're sure to win her heart in a jiffy! If you consider the wide array of choices that you can possibly give to your woman, the possibilities are endless. Because of the availability of so many options, you may even end up buying her the wrong one! However, one common gift that more often than not assures you of a smile and a kiss or more from your woman is when you give her a bottle of perfume. You can never go wrong when you opt to give your women perfume for a special occasion. Unless she's allergic to its compounds or really has no preference for a certain scent, then you may stray from the perfumes category in your shopping list. But, if perfume is not contraindicated, then go ahead and buy her one! Getting to a decision that it is, in fact, perfume that you want to give her, is easy. But when you get to the part of which brand, what scent, and at what price, you may get confused because of all the combinations of these factors available in the market. You don't have to be bewildered for long. How? First, clue yourself in on what your woman usually wears as perfume. What scent does she usually spray on her? Is it a strong and heavy aroma or light and woodsy? Do you usually smell floral and fruits on her or cool and sporty? Or does she settle for warmer scents? If your woman doesn’t wear any perfume (and this hardly ever happens) then you can move on to the next step. The personality of your woman usually gives away the scent that would work on her. If she's sophisticated and classy you can choose perfumes that have a stronger scent, one that commands attention when she enters a room or you can settle for subtle scents, one that only those who can approach her can appreciate. If your woman is sporty and is always on the go, then cool and sporty scents would work wonderfully on her. This type of scent doesn’t weigh her down and helps cool her down when she’s on the move. A blend of light and woodsy citrus scents is perfect for adventurous women. This type of perfume helps her keep the zest that she so eagerly lives by in the world. How about if your woman reminds you of a warm spring’s day, then a combination of floral and fruits perfume would add to the charm she captivates you with. The bottle that holds the perfume can also be an essential tool that would help you make a decision. Most perfumes are collectibles for women, and the better the bottles look, the more they'll like to add it to their collection. You can even put a little twist to this activity by matching the shape and colors of the bottle with the personality of your woman. If she’s plump and delicious, you can go for bottles that are rounded and have a deep and richer color. If she’s slim and sexy, bottles that are slender and comes in feminine colors may be perfect for her. If you’re woman is on the wild side and always lives life on the edge, you can go for the more out of the ordinary bottles that come in varied shapes and sizes to match her adoring outrageousness. You can also settle for asking her directly what type of perfume she wants, but either you'll get an ambiguous answer or the gift won’t be special and it won't surprise her anymore. If you really can't make up your mind and you need her help, play it up a notch and make a game of letting her choose the perfume that she wants together with you! It may not be a surprise but the event that surrounds it is sure to make up for it. You can also be creative and just choose the perfume you, yourself, want to smell on her. There are always testers of the perfumes available for you to sample before you can choose to purchase it. The many uses of wigs

Like hats, wigs are used to cover a person‘s head. Wigs come in all shapes and sizes, from straight to curly, short to long. Wigs are also available in a variety of colors and texture. Wigs are worn by people for many reasons aside from covering natural hair loss. Some people wear wigs to change their hairstyles and hair colors albeit temporarily. Other people however use wigs not for aesthetic purposes but as part of tradition or the mandates of their professions. In the olden days, the use of wigs signified power and wealth. English judges and lawyers used to wear wigs in the courtroom. Remember those white curly hairs worn by judges in old English movies? These lawyers and judges use the wigs not for anything else but as part of their official functions. The use of wigs is basically a necessity for people who have thinning hair or have excessive hair loss. The presence of hair even though in the form of a wig, can spell more confidence for bald people. In ancient times, the Egyptians wore wigs for the same reason people wore hats, and that is to protect their heads from the sun’s heat. Wigs are widely used by performers, whether in movies or theaters, to help them delineate different roles that they portray. The use of wigs in theaters can somehow exaggerate the characters portrayed by actors and actresses. For women, wigs are essential fashionable accessories because it enables them to transform from dull dark-haired girls to blonde bombshells. Women who have short hairs also wear longer wigs when it suits them. Ironically, the use of wigs as a fashion accessory can be attributed not to a woman, but to male French and English leaders who wore wigs that imitated real hair. France’s Louis XIII and England’s Charles’s II spearheaded the use of wigs as a fashion accessory. But the wigs of the olden days were not always made of human hair due to the latter’s scarcity. Believe it or not, wig manufacturers used the hairs of animals like goats and horses to create wigs. The use of wigs for both men and women became more popular in the 18th century when the use of wigs became a status symbol. During that time, the wig colors varied from white to pink and there were even blue wigs. The popularity of wigs in Asia during the 19th century led to the industrialization of the wig industry where manufacturers discovered the use of synthetic hair materials for the production of wigs. The use of wigs as a fashion statement may have lost its popularity nowadays but this hair accessory is still being used for its functional purpose namely, to cover up hair loss or thinning hair. However, the use of wigs is still being practiced in theaters.

The most economic to the most pricey handbags

Either adventure in handbags shopping can be fun and enjoyable. Knowing what you are looking for is the key to finding what you are ultimately looking for. Just be practical? A worse headline for handbag shopping could possibly not be thought of. A handbag afterall is a personal and distinctive item. It says quite a bit about whom you are and what you’re all about. Unfortunately, there is a certain amount of necessity in the statement if you’re going to have everything you need for your day at your fingertips when you need it. Stylish yet practical There is nothing to say that if you do a little shopping you cannot find a handbag that is stylish yet practical. When you go about your shopping for this type of bag, simply cut down on the number of options that you are thinking about for an every bay bag. Place style at the top of your list and organization in second spot. You will, however, still want a mobile pocket and possibly an interior zip pocket for theft and just a little organizational reference. I don’t want practical or organized Lets just face facts, some people just need to carry everything and want one big space to carry their stuff in. In this case, consider a bit stiffer bag that won’t sag quite as much. You will also want to shop with a cell pocket in mind at the top of the main compartment. You can search for the keys or lipstick but you will want quick access to the mobile. Investment grade Practical and stylish may be one part of handbag shopping but possibly you have a few other ideas when it comes to handbags. Buying a handbag for a night on the town only requires space for: a lipstick, compact and mobile. When this is the case, and you have the money to spend on a bag, consider a handbag boutique. These shops do very little advertising so you’ll need to research your local area. In these shops, bags can sell for upwards of $16,000 and are very often limited editions. Function at this point matters very little even if the bag happens to see the light of day more than a few dozen times. Keeping track of what’s hot is the key, as so is trusting the person you are doing business with. “Knock-offs” can very easily be substituted so knowing your stuff is important. Everything in its place There are a few elements that will be required in your handbag if you are to keep up. Your requirements may very just a bit but, for the most part, the basics are the same depending upon what the bags main use is meant to accomplish. First off is the main compartment. It needs to be a relatively decent size without getting to the point of making you search through it for a lipstick or pad of paper. If the main compartment is the right size, it will have left room for a another space or two on either side so that papers, purse, compact and other specific items can be sectioned away from where your hand will naturally go for your most used items. Most used items will need their own pocket so that you can go right to them without looking. These pockets are generally reserved for the mobile, keys and purse. Outside pockets are somewhat practical but should be designed in such a way that they are less susceptible to thieves. Even though they are extremely convenient you will not want to put anything of value in them just for this reason.

The site as a reflection of the design

Marc Jacobs is one of the youngest, hottest new designers and it is no surprise that his Web site displays the same fresh, sleek look that he is revered for by the Hollywood elite who wear his designs. When you enter MarcJacobs, you are greeted with a choice of videos for his two main lines, Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs, and the ability to be front row at both shows. If watching the videos doesn't do it for you, then check out the other features of the site including the News & Gossip section that covers Marc's comings and goings in the press that are almost as fabulous as his clothes. Be warned though, parts of the site can be difficult to navigate as visual options come flying at you faster than the luxury designer can march clothes down a catwalk. But the beautiful creations more than make up for some minor navigational difficulties. Marc Jacobs' collections are everything a luxury line should be, sleek sophisticated and cutting-edge. His original clothing line, Marc Jacobs, is flirty and flowing, yet manages to be simultaneously body-conscious. His more widely worn Marc by Marc Jacobs uses vivid colors and creative details to put his signature coolness stamp on traditional silhouette favorites. When all is said and done, there is a reason Marc Jacobs is one of the best designers and is widely appreciated by all. The Web site is a great way to see behind the scenes of one the most widely anticipated fashion shows each season and view the luxury designer's most up-to-date collections of clothes for men, women and kids as well as housewares and other odds and ends, which is why I would definitely include it as one of my favorite picks.

The world according to designer handbags 101

There's a new kid on the block in the wonderful, wacky world of designer handbags. In case you haven't heard, World According to Jess is taking the fashion accessories industry by storm. But don't let the amateurish name fool you, this design house is taking no prisoners! In a relatively short period of time, this company has achieved immense respect and credibility in the industry. Jessica Alpert-Goldman, namesake and owner of World According to Jess, has firmly entrenched herself in an industry that is not always kind to outsiders. The designs are bold, quirky, and cute…much like Jess herself. With an impressive catalogue of designs, and the support of her ever-growing legion of fans, 2006 may just be the year of Jess. Without a doubt, she is off to a smashing start. Her bags have already been photographed with famous fashionistas like Beyonce Knowles, Sarah Jessica-Parker, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Lindsey Lohan. Just recently, Jess had her remarkable designs included in the celebrity grab-bag backstage at the Oscars. This is, by all means, no small feat. Every major company in every significant niche wants their product included in the Oscar gift bag. The mere act of having your product photographed with major Hollywood stars is a guarantee for overnight success but Jess is already well ahead of the game, in that regard. Jess contributed 250 of her favorite purses to the Oscar cause, and she hasn't looked back. In her own words, "I worked hard to let the world know that World According to Jess was the only bag designer included in the official Oscar gift bag." For her efforts, she received countless press accolades and ended up with placements on some of the biggest television programs in America, including The Today Show. World According to Jess has fun, funky handbags in countless shapes and sizes. Evening bags, cosmetic bags, wallets, diaper bags, travel bags…it appears that Jess has covered all of the bases. Some of my personal favorites include the smashing Arthack and the oh-so-hot Scandalous designs. If these designs are any indication of things to come, World According to Jess is going to be more like world domination. Ciao, Darlings!

There is quite a good deal to see in eyewear

Styles change just as quickly as shoe styles and the options are almost unlimited. Finding the best pair for the occasion and your personality isn't all that difficult as long as you are willing to spend a little time and have quite a bit of fun. Sport ready Where the sunglasses really excel are for the active person. Each sport has its favorite while golf players have a design put together just for golf. Glare, in the game of golf is a real pain when tracking the flight of the ball, while peripheral vision is important for keeping the head down and still while following through. Fashion is always important when it comes to sport glasses but practicality is still the important part of the game for serious athletes. Polarized lenses are front and center in this regard. Not letting in damaging rays is important, not only for keeping you at 100% of your game but because real damage can occur if dangerous UV B rays are consistently bombarding your eyes. If the wearer is always at altitude this is an even more important feature. Go active, go prescription Just because you happen to be blind as a bat doesn't mean that you can’t look good and see well while having some fun. Prescriptions are now being put into active eyewear for a range of sports. Check out the web for: skiing, moto-cross, motorcycle riding or swim goggles and face protectors. Any option is available and not particularly expensive if you compare them to the glasses you're now wearing. A pair of Wayfarers on the web can be found for approximately $180 depending upon the prescription and added options like polarization/scratch resistance and all those sorts of things they offer. Are they breakable? Glasses frames of today are a direct beneficiary of technology in many ways. Frames these days are almost indestructible and believe it or not 'Made in USA' by many manufacturers. Of course the less costly frames still come from overseas but the quality specs are best found made by US citizens. Frame welds are top notch and lenses are ground to tight tolerances. They are your eyes after all and the only pair you'll likely get so it is important to spend wisely on them. The glare of the spotlight We see them almost every day, the cause celebrity plying their look on the red carpet. Add in some photographers or just a quick stop at a charity high sun outdoor event and the need for sunglasses is a must. DNKY is a favorite of many celebrities on this circuit while Bolle also makes a splash. Depending upon who you are and what your particular claim to fame happens to be, big "Jackie O" type sun glasses are in for the fashionistas while slimmed down action wear works the best for the hunky actor on the scene. Studious eyewear Who knew that looking smart was the "in" fashion statement these days. Wearing the correct pair of glasses, to achieve that "smart look", works well with just about any outfit and gives you the ability to go for an entire new set of looks. Clear wireless frames work well in this regard just as much as those "nerdy" looking glasses frames seen in all the movies stereotyping smart people. These frames, however, are a bit more stylized with a more boxed frame then the typical look you may currently be thinking about. Narrower is also a key part of going for this particular look.

    Tips for change your hairstyle

Change is good, but it's even better when it takes only moments to make one. If you like your hair do but it's looking a little dated, there's no reason to agonize over making major change. Hairstyles for the year 2008 come after a year where shorter hairstyles ruled, longer hairstyles still flourished, and everyone just loved the bob. Some celebrities went for medium and shorter lengths and the fashion runaways brought in many unique trends like the pony-loop and the high ballerina bun. Instead of opting for a complete hair reinvention, small changes to your current look can modernize your style. Without appearing too trendy. Fortunately, some of today's hottest styles are easily adaptable and require little commitment for those wary of a dramatic change. How to Update Your Hairstyle If you hair is chin-length or loner, comb it straight up, twist a few times, then coil up and pin high on your head. Use bobby pins to clip up shorter strays at the nape or iron curl them for a softening effect. If you're good at working your mane, you can leave some strands out for a freedom feeling. Poker Straight Curls and waves will be transformed into straight and smooth flowing hair. Even if you love to keep those waves, make sure they just gather at the ends of your hair and the rest of the hair is absolutely straight. Sleek and smooth texture is the keyword for 2008. So, get prepared to straighten out those curled locks for a sleeker and newer you! Long hair is ensuring that it's lean, as opposed to thick and out of control (basically, you should avoid the thickness often seen. Don't worry about making your hair look its best while trying to grow it out -- I have tips on dealing with that awkward stage, on the next page. Temporary colors are great for reflecting moods of the moment - just remember that the lighter your hair and the brighter the artificial shade, the less likely it will be truly temporary. Enhancing your natural shade or going for a totally different color are great ways to update your look. Choose the right hair color and hair treatment so you can create an exciting new look for every occasion. Another hot hair style trend for 2008 is the soft wedge haircut. This short hairstyle adds much sparkle to your face and shows the playful side of your personality. Since a lot of texturing and layering is used, your hairstyle looks soft and very smooth, in case of cut-style. Even people with thin hair can go in for this short cut, as it adds volume. It is suitable for almost every face cut and adds charm and confidence to the personality. For those who want a slightly more dramatic update, bangs are excellent options. The style can be altered depending on your face shape or lifestyle. Long wispy bangs are a good choice if you want a style that is low-maintenance and easy to grow out. A more daring option is to try the newest variation on the mod look, with long blunt bangs that fall just above the eyelashes.
