Quality control check for drywall finishing

Do a walk through eyeballing the job carefully. You will find obvious mistakes this way and can either correct them immediately or mark them with a pencil to come back later and do a touch up application. Change lighting and search again for flaws. After all, your room will be used with natural and artificial lighting. Some errors will not appear unless there is bright artificial lighting. Use "touch" to find uneven drywall application. Run the palm of your hand over areas to make sure the whole wall feels even. Perform another inspection after applying the primer coat of paint. Do this again using both natural and artificial lighting. There are several things to look for when inspecting your drywall finishing work. Obvious scratches. These need to be coated with joint compound again and re-sanded. If you find a swollen area in the finished mud, it can be one of two things. Hopefully, it's only that the area needs to be sanded down. Sometimes though, it will mean that the tape coat does not have enough mud (joint compound) under it and there is an air bubble. This requires carefully cutting a small slit into the dried tape using a utility knife. Lifting the tape slightly and pressing more mud under it. Finally apply another coat of mud after the area is dry and sand it again. A swollen area in raw sheetrock (area of sheetrock that has not been coated with mud) will mean that there is an actual flaw in the wallboard. This can also be repaired by cutting the top paper of the sheetrock around the flaw, peeling it off and filling it with mud using a smooth even coat. A small area will usually only need one coat of compound...larger areas two or more. Again sand until the wall feels and looks completely smooth. Check around light boxes to ascertain that there will be no small gaps showing after installing the cover plates. If the gap is too large, a small length of tape should be applied and finished to cover the gap. Don't forget to inspect ceiling fixtures, washer fixtures, etc. Make sure all screw or nail heads are covered and smooth unless you're sure they will be covered by trim. If there is spray texture used, make sure it has been scraped and sanded smooth in areas where there may be over-spray such as the top area of the walls when the ceiling has been sprayed. After spray texture has been applied, look for spots where it may be too lightly sprayed. NOTE: If you're spraying yourself, be careful not to apply too heavy a coat. It's much easier to lightly re-spray an area than to repair a coat that is too heavy. Check around all beaded areas to make sure they are smooth and without scratches, dents etc. These are the most common problem areas when finishing drywall and you will be much more satisfied with your product if you perform your own quality control testing before the final painting or papering of your walls. These tips are just among hundreds more featured on our website. If you have a remodeling project involving drywall, check out Drywall Finishing Tips now! drywallfinishingtips

Quick and easy way to your first salmon fishing adventure

Your First Fishing Rod: The most important piece of equipment is a fishing rod and the best place to purchase a rod is at a real pro shop or bait and tackle shop. Pro shops usually have a really good return policy. If you get a rod that is not comfortable for you, too stiff or too flexible, too long or too short, they will usually exchange it for a rod that will work better for you. They want your return business for things like bait and tackle. The Place: The best place to fish for salmon is in the river when they come up to spawn. The local pro shop should be happy to provide you with the best times for fishing salmon. Salmon spawn at different times and come up the rivers at different intervals throughout the season, so planning is important if you want to fish when the salmon are spawning. The Boat: Best to have a flat bottom river boat, but those are expensive. It may not be a good idea to take a regular "V" hull lake boat into the river because the depths can be too shallow and unpredictable. The Guide? Another exciting way to experience your first salmon trip is by hiring a guide. You'll learn more from the guide then on your own. It can be pricey, but it's worth it. Something to think about. Shore Fishing No boat? No worries. Fishing from shore is a wonderful way to experience this fantastic hobby as well. The Bait: Ask the at the pro shop what works best in your area or the area you are going to fish. They usually suggest salmon eggs. They are cured in many different ways and everyone has their favorite. The reason why you would want to use salmon eggs is because after salmon spawn, the parent fish stay around the nest to protect the eggs from predators like trout. The currents will also carry the eggs away. When this happens the parent fish gently pick the eggs in their mouth and bring them back to the nest. So, when you dangle salmon eggs in the water after the salmon have spawned, they will see the eggs and assume that some have floated out of the nest. When they go to retrieve them, they get hooked! The Catch: Take along an ice chest filled with ice to keep your catch fresh. You may want to have a couple of five gallon buckets as well. One bucket for cleaning your catch. Another bucket to keep the ready-to-eat gutted and cleaned salmon in. If you clean it before you take it home, you avoid the smelly bloody mess in your kitchen. A third bucket could be used to save salmon eggs gutted from a female. You can save the egg sack and cure it later. You can learn more about how to cure the eggs, or roe, online or talk to someone in your local pro shop for suggestions. The Filleting: You can cut your fish in two ways, steaks or fillets. Salmon steaks are the easiest way to cut them up. Filleting takes a little more practice. You will probably destroy the first few you try to fillet. Don't worry, all those little mangled pieces can be smoked and turned into a salmon dip. Mmm good! The Cooking: There are many ways to cook salmon. Pan fry, BBQ, roasted or even smoked. If you do decide to smoke your salmon pieces, be sure not to dry them out too much. Here's a simple recipe for salmon dip. One cup smoked salmon Two 8 oz packages of cream cheese Half cup chopped onion Salt, pepper, garlic, to taste Now you have it; go out there and catch some salmon!

    Rainbow trout in the uk

Rainbow trout were introduced into the UK from the US in the early 1900’s. This introduction coincided with the need to build extra water supplies for the growing industrial cities such as Bristol and Birmingham. For a fish that is unable to breed naturally in all but a few British rivers the Rainbow trout has been an incredible success. This is due to its eagerness to feed compared with the native brown trout and its habit of shoaling. Both of these soon made it a firm favourite with the fishermen and because of the Rainbow trout’s faster growth rate it was a favourite with the fish farmer as well. The only fly in the ointment was that two different strains of rainbow trout were used – the Kamloops and the Shasta strain. Unfortunately these strains became sexually mature at different times of the year. This resulted in fishermen catching ‘coloured’ fish in both late and early season. The development of egg treatment solved this problem by producing Diploid rainbow trout which were all sterile females. This resulted in ‘clean’ fish all year round. As a bonus these trout also grew faster. The introduction of these ‘sexless’ rainbow trout had another benefit for the angler. It opened the door for the abolition of the closed season for rainbow trout. Pressure from both fishery owners and fishermen forced the abolition of the closed season. The fishery owners benefited from this move and the faster growth rate of these diploid rainbow trout soon resulted in a new national record fish. As a result a race began between fish farmers to grow bigger and bigger rainbow trout to meet the demands of the anglers. Another race began between fishery owners to stock these ‘jumbo’ rainbow trout to attract fishermen to their fisheries. Selective breeding has since pushed up the growth rate of both rainbow trout and brown trout even more. Coupled with intensive feeding programs and egg treatment this has produced today’s Jumbo rainbows. This has led to a totally confusing situation in the record fish list where separate records now exist for all trout species. There are now separate records for fish which have been recently stocked against fish that have been in the water for a period of time or fish that are ‘wild’. Note. The current British record for rainbow trout stands at 33Lb. 4oz.

    Salmon fishing

Where to fish for salmon or the Chinook or the king salmon. The pacific salmon range from California to Alaska. These anadromous species can be found in most pacific coastal waters, streams and rivers that have a good flow of water and temperature as well as a suitable habitat for going up to spawn. You will find that they may be as many as three spawns per year, spring, summer, fall. The average size of the Chinook can be from 16 to 20 lb. but you will see larger fish up to 55 lb. taken from the remote areas along the pacific coast. From BC Alaska you can catch the largest or the Chinook. Fish up to 65 lb. which are common have been taken from the coastal areas. The Chinook will return to the river in which they spawned from at the age of 2 to 7 years old. The salmon will travel over 7000 miles at sea to return to its spawning grounds. One of the longest river spawns is the 2000 miles battle up the Yukon River located in the state of Alaska. With the advancement of man a lot of the smaller streams have been choked of with pollution and silt from local construction. Some of the streams have been filled in for housing and commercial use. There has been a increase of volunteers to clean up the streams and repair the gravel spawning grounds. With some success the salmon have slowly been returning to these devastated areas. The salmon use solar navigation, smell, day light and rain fall to help guide them to the spawning grounds. Most need a gravel bed of course gravel to spawn in. The female will dig out a spot and lay her eggs and the male will fertilize the eggs with jets of milt. Both fish die with in days of spawning. The spawning fish feed many bears, bird like the eagles and people on the run up to their spawning grounds. The decaying fish supply food for the river or stream organisms which provide food for the fry after the hatch. The fry will spend up to 18 months in the river and stream systems before heading out to sea to repeat the process all over Before you fish for salmon you will need to check the regulations in the area you are planning to fish in every area will have different regulations. Time to fish size limits and the number of the fish you may keep. State and Provincial Regulations must be followed as the fines can be very large if you get caught fishing with out the proper license or are out of season. Always check with the regulatory body for the area you will be fishing in. Better to have what you need than to lose a boat or vehicle or go to jail. If fishing in early spring or late summer or in the fall be aware that you may see bears of all sizes after all you are fishing in their favorite spot. Give them a wide berth they are hungry and will protect their territory. Better to play safe than to have a bad encounter you will lose if you come into contact with a bear. Trolling from a boat will help you avoid the bears. The down rigger is very popular to get the bait down to the level to which the salmon are at. Trolling depth will vary from 10 ft to 150 ft a lead cannon ball from 2 to 10 lb. will be used. Hootches , and anchovies work in most location best to check with the local guides to find out what is working on the given days you are fishing. No matter what you fish with or which method you use a Chinook salmon will give you a fight you will not soon forget.

Salmon fishing in alaska doing it all yourself vs. enlisting a charter service

Have you ever traveled to Alaska to do some sport fishing? For the serious angler—the person who loves fishing—it can be the experience of a lifetime. There are two primary choices fishermen have when considering a fishing journey to Alaska—doing everything yourself in terms of fishing gear, lures, discovering when and where they’re biting, etc. or hiring a charter service. In doing it yourself, you bear the vast majority of responsibility in ensuring you have a great time. When hiring a guide, you’re entrusting someone else with the success of your trip. We’re going to assume that if you do hire a guide, you’re going to get a good one. You’ll conduct your research and find someone who provides the service you desire at a good price. When thinking about which way to go — do-it-yourself or charter—you’ll want to evaluate a few areas — your time restraints, the amount of knowledge you have about the area to which you’re going, your fishing expertise, and how much gear you own. If you’re a first-timer traveling to Alaska’s salmon-rich Kenai River, it would take a lot of prep and money to get you up-to-speed and outfitted for the trip. If you’ve already stalked salmon in other parts of the country or world and have a good sense of what you’ll need and how to go about finding great fishing, then it starts to make sense to take charge and go for it yourself. However, it doesn’t have to be an “either-or” decision. The fact is there are over 400 registered guides on the Kenai River alone, and they offer a variety of services. Some charter services provide everything, from lodging, to gear, to drinks and food when out on the river, to fishing instruction, etc. They’re ideal for a first-time and/or only time salmon angler. They’re also a good way to go if you know little about the sport but would like to become more proficient and garner the knowledge necessary to eventually going out on your own. If you’ve done this thing before but not in Alaska, then you may want to hire a guide who can take you to some prime fishing spots on the river. Armed with knowledge of lures, tackle, and technique, you’ll be able to enjoy the experience and be with other anglers who are at your level. Unless you don’t want to be with other fishermen. If you’d rather go out on the river with a small number of folks or alone, then you’ll want to hire someone who is more exclusive and probably more expensive. They may or may not provide equipment and other supplies. You’re basically paying for exclusivity. Always inquire about exactly what a provider means when they say they “supply equipment,” “everything you need is included,” or “all the gear you’ll need to have a great time is right here.” Often tackle and other articles are considered add-ons and will increase your bill. There’s nothing wrong with this; simply make sure you understand what’s included and what costs more. Finally, in considering time restraints, you may make better use of your precious time finding a good guide rather than doing everything yourself. Especially if you’ve never been to the area. A good guide, no matter what they include or offer in add-ons, is the key to being successful and having a great time. No matter what you choose to do, you want to keep in mind that the optimum use of your limited time in the pursuit of salmon on the river of your choice is most important. Once at the location, don’t fritter your time away doing things you could have done before you arrived. In other words, make every moment count.

Salmon run times in the kenai river

You’re about to have your dream come true. You’re going fishing on the Kenai River - Alaska’s salmon magnet. The great thing is you actually have two windows of opportunity for each major species - Chinook (King) Salmon, Sockeye (Red) Salmon, and Coho (Silver) Salmon. Having three run times for three types of salmon is unique, making the Kenai River one of the richest sport fishing waterways on the globe. Chinook (King) Salmon Run Times Run times tend to vary a bit from year to year, but they do follow the same basic pattern each year. The initial run of Kings occurs from mid-May to early July and the last starts in early July and ends on July 31. However, as early as April you’ll find King Salmon coming into the Kenai River. Although not nearly as plentiful as they will be by the middle of May, Kings are often hooked as early as late April. This initial run is the smaller of the two, but because the water levels are lower, some people prefer this time of year. The world record for Chinook Salmon was set on the Kenai River during the first run in May. That could be reason enough to plan a trip for the initial migration of Kings. The second run is focused on the lower part of the river where the salmon have spawned. July first is the designated date for the beginning of the final King run of the season, with large numbers of fish in the river by the end of the first week. Mid-July finds a huge quantity of salmon concentrated in the lower part of the primary channel and attracting a maximum number of sportsmen. Although the river can become crowded with guide boats and fishermen, the Kenai tends to be a very civil place with a party-like atmosphere. It’s actually a great time to be on the river with a community of anglers having the time of their lives. Sockeye (Red) Salmon Run Times You’ll find the first Red Salmon run starting in late May as they swim through the lower and middle sections of the Kenai on their way to the Russian River, a tributary of the Kenai. The Reds become plentiful right around June tenth, peaking sometime between the fifteenth and twentieth of the month. They continue their commute, however in fewer numbers, until the end of the month. Sockeyes are most plentiful in the upper regions of the Kenai. Beginning in mid-July, the second run of the Reds entices fishermen to take to the banks, standing in crowds 15-20 thick. The Sockeye reach their highest numbers by the third week and then start to dwindle until their migration is over by the end of the month. This atmosphere, when fishermen are virtually packed together angling from a pool of thousands of Reds, is called "combat fishing." It can be a great time for trading fish stories, filling your stringer, and enjoying your sport with fellow enthusiasts. Coho (Silver) Salmon Run Times In late July, the Coho Salmon are starting their journey up the Kenai to spawn. By early August, the Silvers are abundant and fishing is fantastic. The run continues through the month with angling abating in the fourth week of August. Just a week or so later in early September, the second and final migration of Silver Salmon begins. Large numbers work their way up the river until, at the end of September, the salmon season is officially over. It’s a wild four-and-a-half months on the Kenai with fishermen from across the globe enjoying some of the finest salmon runs they’ll ever find. Expert guides adept at helping sports fishermen get the most out of their time on the river help make each visitor’s experience something they’ll remember and relish for years to come. Going salmon fishing? You can‘t beat the Kenai River in Alaska.

    Saltwater fishing

Saltwater fishing is nothing like freshwater fishing. To begin with, saltwater fishing takes significantly stronger and heavier tackle and equipment than that used by freshwater fishermen. There are several categories of saltwater fishing discussed in this article. For starters, there is the light-medium category, which would include fishing for certain species such as Snook, Redfish and Spotted Sea Trout. These fish and others in this category are typically caught in bays and other similar estuaries. Also included in this category would be inshore fish such as the Pompano. If you are fishing for these species to eat them, be aware that during summer months redfish and trout will most probably contain worms. A spinning reel in the class of a Penn 710 or 712, or 4500ss spooled with a fine quality 10-pound test monofilament line works better along with light to medium action rod. Penn makes good quality reels that will hold up to the harsh saltwater fishing environment. For terminal tackle you will begin by tying a shock leader of approximately 18 inches using 20 pound test line or fluorocarbon. Fluorocarbon is slightly more expensive but is significantly less visible to the fish. Attach the leader tying line to line or use a saltwater rated barrel swivel. For the hook you'd better use a 6/0, preferably an Eagle Claw. The second category afferent to saltwater fishing is the medium to heavy category for species such as Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, and smaller Jacks. These species of fish are most usually found near shore regions of the Gulf of Mexico and on the Lower East Coast. In this class you could also include the smaller “schoolie” King Mackerel under the legal size limit of 24”. Do not forget to first consult a saltwater species book for knowing the difference between the large Spanish and juvenile Kingfish. They are extremely similar. The easiest way to tell the difference is that the Spanish Mackerel will have a "black flag", on the anterior portion of its dorsal fin where the King Mackerel, with the exception of very young fish, does not have this special detail. The second more reliable way to tell is by looking at the lateral line that runs down the body. In a Spanish Mackerel this line drops gradually behind the pectoral fin whereas in the King Mackerel the line drops off sharply. To be on the safe side, equip yourself with a Penn 704 or similar size equipment spooled with 12-15 lb test coupled with a thin wire leader of 20lb test or so. Check your local fishing regulations for the most appropriate hook, in Florida a small treble like a 2/0 is used. From the moment the inshore net bans were placed these species have come back more abundantly than ever and you are most certain to find some. Keep in mind that Redfish, King Mackerel and Spanish Mackerel are migratory species so you will have to verify the seasonal availability for these species of fish. Enjoy your fishing trip. Tight lines!

Saltwater fishing the fundamentals you need to know

The fish you are after in saltwater fishing are probably these: - cod - tarpon - eels - sea catfish - mackerel - barracuda - swordfish - bass - tuna - sharks - and many more varieties. The Gear You Need First and foremost, you need a good quality rod. Go for 8 and a half to 9 feet. Also, insure it is good quality as you will need the strength. In reels, you should go for those that are protected from saltwater corrosion. Look for those made from stainless steel, titanium or fiber/resin. It is also known as one of the best places to go if one wants to fish for giant King Salmon, the largest specie of salmon fish. Sf archery fishing hunting tips

Tips for Archery Fishing Also known as Bow fishing, this is a sport wherein a fisherman uses archery equipment to fish. A regular hunting bow can be used for fishing by simply attaching a reel to the front of the bow grip. Archery fishing is especially favored by regular hunters when regular game like deer are off season. This way they can continuously hone their skills for whatever season it may be. Before engaging in archery fishing, one must first take into consideration the following: 1. A fisherman must be duly licensed. Some states require that an individual have a state license to fish. 2. Equipment. Most states have a predetermined set of approved equipment for archery fishing. 3. Archery Safety Course. Still, some states require that an individual go through an approved safety course for archery fishing to ensure that the individual is well versed with the proper safety precautions and information regarding applicable laws in fishing. 4. Seasons. Bow fishing in some states can only be done in certain seasons. This is to allow the fish to spawn. 5. Species of fish. Some states have rules forbidding archery fishing for some species of fish. The following skills are necessary for an individual to obtain and practice: Knot tying. Though it may seem like a simple task, tying knots that will not slip (line for the arrow) are crucial in bow fishing. Tuning. Tuning is making sure that the bow is at its best working condition. To ensure this, one has to continuously adjust the rest and calibrate the nock. For a faster tuning process, one may shoot a regular bow-fishing arrow (without the tip) onto a target made of cardboard. Marksmanship or targeting. Bow fishing and bow hunting, though similar on some aspects, really do differ on many things. Arrows for bow fishing are heavier, have larger arrow tips and, the most obvious one, has a string attached to the arrow. And since fish are shot in the water, resistance differs as when compared to shooting in the air (for bow hunting of games) There are various methods or ways of archery fishing. This includes the following: 1. Still hunting. A fisherman selects a place by the lake in which he would wait for passing fish to shoot its bow at. 2. Stalking. This can be done on foot or while on a boat. One is in constant motion in an attempt to locate fish. 3. Ambush. Fish that are best ambushed are the ones that are spawning since they tend to crowd thus increasing chances of target.
