The making of a winning online poker player

First of all you must be able to take consistently care of your money and play them the right way. Even if you are an extraordinary poker player, you can’t stay on the winning course if you can’t manage your money correctly. A correct management will tell you the types of games to play, games that are affordable for your bankroll and will also predict the long run winnings. Many qualified poker players don’t know how to interpret their bankroll. They play high poker limit games, games that have such limits that their bankroll can’t take. There are times in everyone’s life when we can get unlucky, and those times have to be taken into consideration when playing poker. You may play your best, without any mistakes at all and still lose constantly and your bankroll has to be able to absorb such losses. It is said a bankroll of at least 300 – 350 times the biggest bet can be the solution for a good money management. You know best your poker statistics, but even if you always win and your bankroll is 50 times the bigger bet you might loose it. The same thing happens if you don’t let the bankroll grow a little and you always take out the money won. A good money management means playing games you can afford and also keeping the bankroll at a rather stable size. Secondly, observe all. To observe means to know. And knowing gives you a head start in poker. When playing you will not spend as much time contemplating your cards as you may think. You will be left with plenty of time on your hands and you can very well use that time to observe the movements and tactics of all the other players. Some player might even say what cards they had when they throw away a hand. If you pay attention, you can build a model in your head that will predict future behaviors and patters for that specific player. This does not mean telling, as in real life poker, it’s different and it requires more attention from your part. In the mean time, you must pay attention to your own game as well, build yourself a image a game style that can’t be predicted because there are times when you might come across experienced players that will also try and observe you game style. So whenever you spot a fault in your opponent’s game, examine yourself for that kind of transparency to determine if you are not doing it too.

The many faces of online gambling

Gambling has changed. With the increased popularity and accessibility of the internet, more and more people are gambling various forms. From sports betting to underground poker rooms, the general public is playing and it can be attributed largely to the internet. Today's gambler is always looking for a way to gamble more easily and to do so within the legal bounds of his country. The internet provides him or her with just that. The gambling is accessible just by logging on, and since many online gambling sites are set up outside the US territory, they are actually quite legal. The internet makes it easy to gamble in all ways. Offshore sports betting centers will allow you to see lines and odds almost as soon as they are posted at the actual sports book. In addition, a bet can be placed in any number of books while you simply sit in your chair looking at your computer screen. The same goes for poker and other games. Casino games are available in video form online any time of day. The sites are, by and large, legal. This makes gambling in general more accessible for everyone. Long gone are the days where you met at a speakeasy to play poker and roulette. Today, the craze is going beyond simply gambling on the internet. Now, most software is downloable to your phone so that you can see them, but also you can play the games on your phone. You can win and lose money right there on your cell phone without even leaving your car during rush hour. Gambling is officially a mainstream sport or activity. People play at their homes, in school, at the Catholic Church, and even on cell phones. This type of exposure has made it so that gambling is the next great social activity out there.

The mathematical theory of gambling games

Despite all the obvious popularity of games of dice among the majority of social strata of various nations during several millennia and up to the XVth century, it is interesting to note the absence of any evidence of the idea of statistical correlations and probability theory. The French humanist of the XIIIth century Richard de Furnival was said to be the author of a poem in Latin, one of fragments of which contained the first of known calculations of the number of possible variants at the chuck-and luck (there are 216). Earlier in 960 Willbord the Pious invented a game, which represented 56 virtues. The player of this religious game was to improve in these virtues, according to the ways in which three dice can turn out in this game irrespective of the order (the number of such combinations of three dice is actually 56). However, neither Willbord, nor Furnival ever tried to define relative probabilities of separate combinations. It is considered that the Italian mathematician, physicist and astrologist Jerolamo Cardano was the first to conduct in 1526 the mathematical analysis of dice. He applied theoretical argumentation and his own extensive game practice for the creation of his own theory of probability. He counseled pupils how to make bets on the basis of this theory. Galileus renewed the research of dice at the end of the XVIth century. Pascal did the same in 1654. Both did it at the urgent request of hazardous players who were vexed by disappointment and big expenses at dice. Galileus' calculations were exactly the same as those, which modern mathematics would apply. Thus, science about probabilities at last paved its way. The theory has received the huge development in the middle of the XVIIth century in manuscript of Christiaan Huygens' "De Ratiociniis in Ludo Aleae" ("Reflections Concerning Dice"). Thus the science about probabilities derives its historical origins from base problems of gambling games. Before the Reformation epoch the majority of people believed that any event of any sort is predetermined by the God's will or, if not by the God, by any other supernatural force or a definite being. Many people, maybe even the majority, still keep to this opinion up to our days. In those times such viewpoints were predominant everywhere. And the mathematical theory entirely based on the opposite statement that some events can be casual (that is controlled by the pure case, uncontrollable, occurring without any specific purpose) had few chances to be published and approved. The mathematician M. G.Candell remarked that "the mankind needed, apparently, some centuries to get used to the idea about the world in which some events occur without the reason or are defined by the reason so remote that they could with sufficient accuracy be predicted with the help of causeless model". The idea of purely casual activity is the foundation of the concept of interrelation between accident and probability. Equally probable events or consequences have equal odds to take place in every case. Every case is completely independent in games based on the net randomness, i. e. every game has the same probability of obtaining the certain result as all others. Probabilistic statements in practice applied to a long succession of events, but not to a separate event. "The law of the big numbers" is an expression of the fact that the accuracy of correlations being expressed in probability theory increases with growing of numbers of events, but the greater is the number of iterations, the less frequently the absolute number of results of the certain type deviates from expected one. One can precisely predict only correlations, but not separate events or exact amounts.

The mets will have it wrapped up by the all star break

: A quick scan around Major League Baseball will reveal some really tight races in 5 out of the 6 divisions, but make no mistake about it, the Atlanta Braves reign at the top of the NL East is over. The New York Mets have been money in the bank for bettors all year and especially in their most recent road trip. How about a 9-1 mark on the 10-games road trip, where they outscored their opponents 79-39 and now they lead the Philadelphia Phillies by 9 Ѕ games! Hey check these numbers out that the trio of Carlos Beltran, David Wright and Carlos Delgado has put up. In 710 official at bats, these guys have hung up 51 homeruns and 152 RBI’s and we are only halfway through June. New York set a major league record by winning its eighth consecutive game on the road when scoring in the first inning. The 1939 Yankees did it seven consecutive games. The Mets' streak of eight straight games scoring in the first is a team record, and the eight consecutive wins are their most during any road trip. The Braves lost to Florida 3-2 to fall 13 games behind New York. It's their largest deficit since their record streak of 14 straight division titles started in 1991, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The Braves went 1-6 on their trip and are seven games below .500 for the first time since May 26, 1992. Meanwhile while were discussing streaks, maybe the Arizona Diamondbacks should stay away from the desert as they certainly don’t fancy home cooking. After reeling off several victories on the road two weeks ago and assuming the lead in the NL West, Arizona went 1-9 on their 10-game homestand. White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen made it quite clear that he will not tolerate passive players as he banished rookie pitcher Sean Tracy to the minors yesterday. On Wednesday night Texas Rangers pitched Vincente Padilla hit White Sox catcher A. J. Pierznyski not once, but twice in the arm. When Tracy took the hill in the 7th inning, he threw inside to Rangers Hank Blalock but would not hit him. When he came back to the dugout the fiery manager Guillen got in his face and made sure Tracy knew this would not be tolerated and also issued the rookie a bus ticket to Charlotte on Thursday. The most important rule when playing poker

Poker has one rule that is much more important that any other: every player is to blame for all he or she does with the cards in their hand. It is never about luck, it’s about them and how they play. You must not let others influent your gaming style. If you do that you will be at their hand. They can manipulate your game and use your style to win their hands and take your chips or money. Psychology is an important factor and players will attempt to use it against you, this is not because they are ‘rude’, but only because this is poker and these things go along with it, they absolutely have to. Let’s consider a possible situation. You are at home, right in the middle of your poker session, having a great hand and a friend comes along to visit. You will make to mistakes. The one has already been made the moment you declared yourself available when in fact you were playing poker online and for this you should’ve saved your full attention and concentration. So, you are now just one mistake away from losing money, still you are sitting there, with one eye at the poker table and the other at your friend. Regardless what he came to tell you, he is a distraction right now and he will affect your game. Let’s say you continue to play and at some point your friends starts to tell you what he thinks about your hands. Without even realizing it, you follow his inexperienced lead and start losing everything you’ve made that evening. Finally, when left with nothing you and your friend decide ‘together’ that poker is not for you and you should forget all about it. The second mistake occurred somewhere along the way as I am sure you all noticed. Letting someone else to evaluate your hands is the greatest mistake of all. Only you are allowed to do that, because you are the only one really involved. However this presented case is just a minor situation. Because of the lack of attention, in an official tournament one player named Uli Gerloff lost nearly $9000 or more. Here is in short what happened. He had a winning hand, clearly. But, when the last card was placed on the table, his opponent trembled with joy and acted like he is clearly the winner. Everything happened in a splash second. The next thing was that the dealer pushed the chips to the opponent and everyone, including Uli was convinced that the other player won. And he did eventually win because of the lack of attention Uli manifested. Uli realized only later that his hand was the winning one, but the casino stuff and the experts blamed him for being lightheaded and he was never given credit for that hand. You and only you are responsible for your hand. No one else will tell you if you have the winning cards, you have to see at least that at the end of each hand. Don’t let others influent you in any way and trust only yourself and the cards in a game of poker.

    The new badugi poker

Badugi is a poker variant that has grown increasingly popular during the last few years. It originates from Asia, but has not spread to the rest of the world until recently. It is today played online as well as offline by poker enthusiasts all over the world. Learning Badugi is very easy if you already master other poker games, such as Hold’em Poker. Badugi is a four card game with three draws. The players with the lowest hand will win the pot. Unlike other poke variants, getting one pair, two pairs, three of a kind or four of a kind is undesirable in Badugi. Getting two or more cards from the same suit is also bad. The best hand is therefore containing cards from four different suits, and no cards should have the same rank. Such a hand where all the cards are of different suit and rank is called a Badugi! When playing Badugi, you will be dealt four cards. The first card will be dealt to the player on the small blind, and the dealing will then proceed clockwise. Only one card is dealt to each player at a time. The betting will depend on which type of Badugi you are playing. There exist three different variants: Limit Badugi, Pot Limit Badugi and Half Pot Limit Badugi. In Limit Badugi, all the bets are made in incremental units. During the first and second round, each player is allowed to bet the lower level bet. If you for instance play $4 / $8 Badugi, you will be allowed to bet $4 during the first and second round. During the third and fourth round, you can be the higher level, i. e. $8. Just as in the other Limit Poker variants, betting will be capped at four bets per round in Limit Badugi. In Pot Limit Badugi, bets are not made in incremental units. You can instead raise your bet any amount as long as you bet no lower than the minimum bet and no higher than the amount of money currently found in the pot. The minimum bet is determined by the big blind. Let’s say that the small blind is $4 and the big blind $8. One caller has already bet $8. The next player can then choose to bet as low as $8. The total value of the current pot is $4 +$8 + $8. The player can therefore also choose to bet $4 +$8 + $8 + $8, since the maximum bet is based on the current pot on top of the initial call. The maximum bet in this situation is therefore $28. Half Pot Limit Badugi is very similar to Pot Limit Badugi, but a player is only allowed to raise the value of half the current pot. Let’s say the pot contains $2 + $4 + $4. Half of $2 + $4 + $4+ $4 is $7. The next player can therefore raise $7+ $4 = $11. The lowest allowed bet is determined by the big blind, just as in Pot Limit Badugi.

    The new party poker

: Online gaming sites are always changing -- upgrading software, improving features and functionality, getting rid of bugs and bad ideas, inventing new offerings, etc. -- all in a furious effort to remain competitive. A consistent leader of the online gambling pack, Party Poker, is often at the cutting edge of these new and improved releases. Not only has Party Poker done it again with their latest upgrade, but with the elimination of one of their programs (skins), and brand new partnerships with other leading edge online casinos and online poker rooms. The first thing to be aware of with Party Poker’s new upgrade is that all the bugs may not yet have been completely ironed out (which simply means updates to the upgrades will be forthcoming). There have been some reports that uninstalling earlier versions of the Party Poker software after installing the new upgrade could lead to problems, so we would hold off on that uninstall if we were you. Of course, now that we said that, some of you may be wondering why you would even bother downloading the upgrade. Here’s why: re: Lobby - Games are listed by blinds rather than maximum buy-in - Hands per Hour are included amongst the lobby stats - Cash games are divided into Limit, No Limit, and Pot Limit - More limits added to Cash Games - Player’s available cash and Party Points are prominently displayed - Filters are given to help narrow down your selection of tables/games - Tables are given names rather than numbers - The news ticker has been made more prominent - Tournaments are divided into groups for easier searching re: Tournaments - Tournament buy-ins now include entry fees - Tournament players start with more chips (Sit-and-Go’s: 2,000, Multi-Table: 3,000, “Events”: 5,000) - There’s a new tournament blind structure - More buy-ins available for Sit-and-Go’s - Sit-and-Go levels have changed so that now they are based on time rather than hands played - The payout structure is flatter re: Party Poker Accounts - Players can easily switch between Party Poker and Party Casino all from one place - The Account Page has been streamlined for greater efficiency and ease of use re: Miscellaneous features - Players can shrink windows for multi-tabling - Optional automatic window tiling and cascading As you may know, a skin is an independent site that uses another site’s software (in this case Party Poker’s) in exchange for a percentage of revenues. PartyGaming, parent company of Party Poker as well as host of Party Casino and Party Bingo has decided to terminate its skins, instead purchasing those sites as secondary PartyGaming sites (and presumably raking in 100% of the revenues). In place of their newly defunct skins, Party Poker is now joined by the following new members of the PartyGaming family: IntertopsPoker, MultiPoker, PlanetLuck Casino, PokerNow, and Starluck Casino Online. Party Poker’s most recent acquisition, as of February 2006, was former Party Poker skin Empire Poker, which they purchased for $250 million. Those Party Poker folks are building quite the Empire (some bad puns just beg to be voiced).

Party Poker, who according to Reuters signed up a record number of new players last year, is a publicly traded company on the London Stock Exchange.

The next time you screw up bad just ask your boss to think of isiah thomas

: I realize we are all guilty of colossal mistakes in our lifetime, but as bad as I have been several times in my life, I cannot hold a candle to Isiah Thomas of the New York Knicks. While I’m on a roll, I may as well throw in the name James Dolan the owner and chairman of the New York losers. These two gentlemen are responsible for the latest multi-million dollar blunder that will see them issue a cheque to ousted coach Larry Brown in the amount of $40 million. Last summer they hired Brown to a 5-year $50 million contract, with the high hopes that he could inspire a bunch of over paid prima donnas. I mean to be fair to Thomas it was Dolan that hired him after Thomas had done his best to destroy the Pacers and Raptors organization. Here’s what the Boss had to say! "We hired Larry last summer with the expectation that he would be with the Knicks for a long time," Dolan said. "Sometimes decisions work and sometimes they don't. After careful consideration, despite the best intentions from everyone involved, this current structure did not work for us last season and I did not think it was going to improve next season." As for Brown this guy will now have received $59 million in alimony from his past three employers, Philadelphia, Detroit and New York. Rumor has it that Brown owns a home in the Hampton’s, next door to the owner of the Golden State Warriors. Next stop for Larry may be San Francisco! Bob Acton Online Sports Betting

The nfl draft s impact on the upcoming fantasy football season

Some of these rookies will come in and make an immediate impact in the league. Others will have a more subtle impact and work their way into the lineup. How much playing time these rookies receive will determine not only their value, but also the value of many other proven veterans who could be high fantasy draft picks. Some of these veterans may lose a lot of value due to rookies stealing precious playing time from them. This is especially troubling in keeper leagues. Rookie Starters This was one of the more impressive drafts in recent years. Several skilled players should step right into major roles with their NFL teams. Some of these guys will be well worth having on your fantasy team. If you’re in a keeper league, these guys could be very high picks. Reggie Bush – The Texans might have passed on him, but you shouldn’t. Bush will have plenty of chances to score fantasy points for his owners as he is expected to split carries with Deuce McAllister, whose value drops significantly. Bush will be a big target out of the backfield for new Saints QB Drew Brees and at times he’ll line up as a wide receiver. Bush may also be able to get on the scoreboard returning punts and kickoffs. Vernon Davis – The huge tight end will instantly become Alex Smith’s favorite target in San Francisco. While the 49ers’ offense is nothing to write home about, they should improve and they will play against some weaker defenses. Some say Davis may be the next Antonio Gates. That probably won’t happen right away, but he could be a top 5 tight end and have numbers similar to Baltimore’s Todd Heap. Joseph Addai – The Colts moved quickly to replace Edgerrin James by drafting the LSU running back in the first round. Addai will step right into the league’s most potent offense and could be the feature back. Like James, he’s an excellent pass catcher and should have no problem beating out Dominic Rhodes for the majority of the playing time. Waiting in the Wings These guys may not start right away, but they will be valuable players for their new teams’ offenses. Laurence Maroney & Chad Jackson – The Patriots’ top two picks may not be immediate starters, but it won’t be long until they force their way into the lineup. Rated by many as the top wide receiver in the draft, New England was able to grab Florida’s Chad Jackson in the second round. Jackson fills an immediate hole for the Pats after they lost David Givens in free agency. Even if he doesn’t start, New England loves to run 3-, 4- and 5-receiver sets, and you can bet Tom Brady will find the rookie. The Patriots’ No. 1 pick was RB Laurence Maroney. Maroney rushed for more than 1,000 yards three straight seasons at Minnesota. He won’t displace incumbent Corey Dillon as the starter right away, but Maroney will get his share of carries and could develop into a very productive NFL running back in no time. He is an excellent mid-round pick – higher in keeper leagues. DeAngelo Williams – The undersized running back is the NCAA career leader in all-purpose yards. He will have to battle DeShaun Foster and Carolina’s 2005 top pick Eric Shelton for playing time. Williams will be part of the backfield rotation from the start. Foster and Shelton have both had trouble staying healthy, so Williams could be in line for even more playing time. Santonio Holmes – The Steelers, like the Patriots, had an immediate need for a wide receiver and filled it with the impressive Ohio State speedster. He should fit in well with the Super Bowl champs and has a great tutor in Hines Ward. Look for Pittsburgh to ease him into the lineup and for Holmes to make his way into the starting lineup by mid-season. LenDale White – The other USC running back fell to the middle of the second round after a hamstring injury and character questions have come up in recent weeks. On the field, White has been a powerful runner with a nose for the end zone. Tennessee already has two proven backs in Chris Brown and Travis Henry, but both have been susceptible to injuries. Look for White to start the season as the goal-line back and get a chance at the feature back role later in the season. Best of the Rest A few other players to keep an eye on this season include: Leonard Pope – The 6-foot-8 tight end will be a huge target for Curt Warner and should get plenty of Red Zone opportunities in the Cardinals’ new high-powered offense; Sinorice Moss – The Miami (Fla.) receiver should be an excellent complement to Plaxico Burress for the Giants. Moss will have to fight for catches in an offense that features Tiki Barber, Jeremy Shockey, and Burress; Anthony Fasano – Bill Parcells hopes Fasano will turn into another Mark Bavaro for the Cowboys. Dallas already has Jason Witten, a solid tight end, but Parcells loves to play two tight ends, and Drew Bledsoe loves to work the middle of the field. The Quarterbacks The there’s the three high-profile quarterbacks: Vince Young, Matt Leinart, and Jay Cutler. I think they will all have productive careers, but just not this season. Young has a chance for playing time with Tennessee now that Steve McNair has left for Baltimore. Billy Volek is ready to step up, however, so Young should be carrying the clipboard this season. Leinart fell to the 10th pick, but he couldn’t have asked for a better situation. The Cardinals are loaded on offense with the best young wide receiver duo in the league – Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald – and a stud running back in the newly acquired James. Kurt Warner leads the Arizona attack and still has a good year or two left, but Warner has a history of injuries so Leinart’s time could come sooner rather than later. The Broncos drafted Cutler one pick after Leinart was selected. Cutler will back up Jake Plummer in Denver next year as he is groomed for the starting spot once Plummer wears out his welcome. Keep track of the position battles over the summer and don’t be afraid to take a chance on a rookie that could be a difference maker.

The nhl playoffs are here does anyone care

Last night marked the end of the first NHL season since the strike/lockout of 2004-2005. The Stanley Cup playoffs -- arguably the most exciting tournament in sports -- begin Friday night, but will anybody be watching, other than Don Cherry and Barry Melrose? While attendance was up in 75% of NHL arenas this season, the sport continues to struggle to attract new fans. The league has slipped to No. 5 in popularity for many, behind the NFL, NBA, MLB and NASCAR. The Good Old Days Back in the days when the NHL was on national TV two or three nights a week, it was easy to get into the game. There were always great players and great teams to keep us interested. The rivalry between the Bruins and Canadiens in the ’70s was as intense as the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry is now. Wayne Gretzky and the great Edmonton teams of the ’80s were amazing to watch, and Mario Lemieux’s dominance and Mark Messier’s resurrection of the New York Rangers kept us going through the ’90s. There are a host of young players today who should be garnering our accolades, but because of a lack of exposure and poor marketing by the league, these would-be household names are after-thoughts in the sports world. We all know Jaromir Jagr, Joe Sakic and Teemu Selanne, but how many of us know Eric Staal (100 points), Ilya Kovalchuk (52 goals) and Brian Gionta (46 goals)? Some amazing accomplishments were achieved this season, including the Detroit Red Wings’ astounding 124 points (fifth-best total in league history), rookies Sidney Crosby of the Penguins and Alexander Ovechkin of the Capitals both topping the 100-point mark, and Jonathan Cheechoo becoming the first Native American (called First Nations people in his native Canada) to win the goal-scoring title with 56. Always Interested There’s one group of fans that is interested in just about every game in every sport -- the gamblers. Hockey traditionally has been a great sport to bet on, especially early in the season. The oddsmakers often have a hard time handicapping the sport that they are not that familiar with, leaving gamblers plenty of opportunity for easy money. With that in mind, here is how the first round of the NHL playoffs shapes up in this gambler’s mind: Detroit and Dallas are in familiar positions atop the Western Conference standings. The Red Wings, who became the first team in 10 years to go through an entire season without being shutout, should score early and often as they dismantle the Edmonton Oilers in the first round. Detroit wins in a sweep. Colorado is always a tough out, but the Avalanche dropped 3 straight and 4 of their last 5 to end the season. The Stars’ stingy defense will be the difference in a low-scoring series. Dallas wins 4 games to 1. Calgary with probable Vezina Trophy winner Miikka Kiprusoff in net should have no problem eliminating Anaheim in 6 games. The other first-round Western Conference matchup may be the best of all. Nashville finished the season winning 6 straight, including the season finale vs. Detroit, and posted the league’s best home record at 32-8-1. San Jose features Hart Trophy candidate and the league’s leading scorer Joe Thornton, along with the aforementioned Cheechoo. Look for a high-scoring, entertaining series with the Sharks winning a seventh game in Nashville. Champs Still Alive Over in the Eastern Conference, the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning staved off late charges from Toronto and Atlanta to grab the eighth spot. The champs face multiple-time first-round loser Ottawa to begin their defense of the title, and the Senators are ripe for an upset again. Ottawa limped into the playoffs, finishing 2-4-2 in its last 8 games. The loss of Dominik Hasek hasn’t helped, either. Tampa wins 4 games to 2. Carolina, despite being shutout in its last game and dropping to the No. 2 seed, should be tough to beat. Montreal’s rookie goalie Cristobal Huet came out of nowhere to post an impressive 2.14 GAA and a league-leading .930 save percentage. He will have a tough task in trying to slow down the Hurricanes’ high-scoring offense. Carolina advances in 7. The Rangers-Devils should be a fun one for the New York fans. New Jersey is the hottest team in the league. The Devils scored 3 goals in the third period to complete a 4-3 comeback last night against the Canadiens for their 11th straight victory. The win clinched the Atlantic Division for New Jersey, which trailed Philadelphia by 19 points on Jan. 6. With momentum and experience on their side, the Devils will hold down Jagr and eliminate New York in 5 games. The last first-round series features the upstart Buffalo Sabres vs. the Philadelphia Flyers, who have to be disappointed that they did not hold on to win the division. The key to this series will be the health of Flyers star center Peter Forsberg. If he can make it through the entire series, Philly has a chance, but Buffalo’s hard-hitting defense won’t make it easy for him. Buffalo wins in 7. Whatever the outcome, I’m looking forward to watching some great playoff hockey. Nothing matches the intensity of sudden death overtime or the elation and pain of a seventh game.

The nuances of becoming a winning limit hold em player

While we all dream of becoming a master Texas Hold ‘em Poker player, the stark reality is that most players never progress to become an effective and consistent player. Those that do develop into consistent winners typically do so because they are able to understand and grasp the nuances of Texas Hold ‘em Poker. There are many considerations for the novice to understand when setting out to play limit Texas Hold em Poker. While many of us have watched Texas Hold ‘em Poker on TV and have seen players bluffed out of pots we understand that this effective strategy in no-limit Texas Hold ‘em rarely works in limit because you are limited to a maximum bet. This makes bluffing and picking-up small pots more difficult in limit Texas Hold ‘em Poker. While I do favor an aggressive style of play in limit Texas Hold ‘em Poker it does need to be controlled. What this means is that when you do play a pot, you play it strongly. Another factor to consider in limit Hold ‘em is that you can have as many as five or six players going for the pot. This is a result of the fact that bets are fixed so it can be harder to trim down the number of players vying for the pot. Going up against several players for a pot means that the ability to read an opponents hand is one of the most important tools a limit player needs to develop. Most of the times you are going to have to show down a hand, and being able to read what hands you are going up against will help you make better decisions. Because most of the times you will have to show down a hand you will typically want to stick to playing big hands. Oftentimes the deciding factor in whether you are successful in limit Texas Hold ‘em Poker is patience and self-discipline while playing. Being patient and waiting for playable hands, especially when you are a beginner is very difficult. It can be boring sitting on the sidelines watching others play out their hands. You can’t let past hands ruin your judgment. Being patient will pay dividends in the long run. Resist the temptation to play bad hands, throw them away. We’ve all folded away poor hands only to see a great flop that comes down that would have given us a full house or straight. Never let that tempt you into playing poor hole cards. When you are on the sidelines you should be paying attention to what others are doing. This is where you will begin to develop the ability to read your opponents hands. As mentioned previously, this is one of the most important tools that you can develop. The time you spend watching others and learning how they play hands will be very useful when you do play a hand against them and are now armed with information on how they played in similar situation. If you’ve been playing close attention to your opponent you’ll know how many hands he plays, is he aggressive or does he tend to call most of the time. Is he a good player? Does he play the same hands the same way all the time? By carefully observing your opponents you will be able to pick up ‘Tells’ – physical mannerisms which may give up information about their hand. When playing online, while you won’t be able to pick up the physical tells, you will be able to pick up whether an opponent tends to slow play a certain type of hand or just jump right in with a bet. You’re more likely to profit from this type of information if you’re playing with relatively inexperienced players. Tell’s great if you find one. Also keep in mind that your opponents will be observing you for clues on your style of play. That is why it is a good idea to mix-up your play by treating the same situation in different ways. You can avoid being too predictable by changing the way you play your hands. By avoiding predictability you will keep your opponents off balance.

The numbers don t lie when betting on baseball

: This is a great time of year for betting on sports as you have the major league baseball season in full swing, the NBA playoffs have been spectacular and who would have thought that the final four in the NHL would be Carolina, Buffalo, Anaheim and Edmonton. Throw in the PGA Tour, NASCAR and the Triple Crown in horse racing and this is quite the betting smorgasbord! Today we will focus on baseball as interleague play has arrived and that means the Yankees and Mets, Cubs and White Sox and a plethora of other enticing matchups! Several players this season are living large in the penthouse, while some big name guys are struggling: Both Boston and New York are battling it out for first as usual but their sluggers David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez are sleepwalking through May. Ortiz, who got off to a strong April start, is hitting .250 with two home runs and 12 RBI in May through Tuesday. He's played in every game this year but has battled the flu for most of May. Last year's MVP award — and 16 of 28 first-place votes — went to Rodriguez. For many voters, the tiebreaker between the two was Rodriguez's defense. He played 161 games at third last year, compared with Ortiz's 10 at first base. But this season Rodriguez already has six errors, half of last year's total. Two came in the same game against Boston. Rodriguez, who finished second in the batting race last year, is hitting .273, down from last season's .321. Los Angeles Angels right-hander and reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Bartola Colon is 0-2 with a 7.07 ERA and has been on the disabled list since April 19 with shoulder woes. In addition, Oakland Athletics closer Huston Street has a 5.73 ERA after winning the AL Rookie of the Year Award. Detroit's 7-4 win over Minnesota on Tuesday night, combined with Chicago's loss to Tampa Bay, lifted the Tigers into a first-place tie with the White Sox in the American League Central. The Tigers, who have won five straight, have not been in first place this late in the season since 1993. Minnesota Twins starters are 13-21 with a 6.64 ERA this season and manager Gardenhire is going to get bounced on the pavement. Danny Graves had been designated for assignment Friday night after going 2-1 with a 5.79 ERA in 13 relief appearances for Cleveland. The 32-year-old had compiled a Cincinnati team-record 182 saves after being dealt to the Reds by the Indians in 1997 until being released last June. He then pitched in 20 games for the New York Mets and signed with Cleveland as a free agent in December. The Boston Red Sox have committed just 12 errors, leading to the best fielding percentage (.991) in the majors. The team has been on a particularly impressive roll of late, having committed just one error in its last 13 games. A year ago, by contrast, the team's defensive efficiency was just 69.2 percent, ranked 11th among the 14 American League squads. RHP Mike Timlin is showing no evidence of decline at 40. He is 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA in 18 appearances. Dating to the start of last season, Timlin owns a 2.04 ERA, ranked fourth among all pitchers who have thrown 95 or more innings, behind only LHP Billy Wagner (1.58), RHP Mariano Rivera (1.68) and RHP Roger Clemens (1.87). Chicago White Sox Scott Podsednik was not in the starting lineup Thursday, but after a slow start to the season, he was hitting .416 this month with 11 stolen bases in May. Over his last 27 games, he's raised his average from .059 to .297. Cleveland Indians Casey Blake had two more hits, raising his batting average to .370, which leads the major leagues. Blake hit just .241 last year, and he struggled mightily with runners in scoring position. Last year Blake hit .171 with runners in scoring position, and .085 with two outs and runners in scoring position. This year Blake is hitting .412 with runners in scoring position and .529 with two outs and runners in scoring position. C Victor Martinez, hitting .145 in the month of May after hitting .398 in April, was given a day off Thursday. Martinez had started 36 of the Indians' first 40 games. DH Travis Hafner leads the American League in runs with 38, which puts him on a pace to score 149, which would break Earl Averill's club record of 140, set in 1931. Use these numbers when placing a wager and success will follow! Bob Acton Online Sports Betting

    The online poker room experience

Even if you are a seasoned veteran or an inexperienced poker player, online poker has a lot to offer you. Poker is so much fun and enjoyable. It allows you to use a strategic frame of mind with the combination of luck! In an online betting site you can pretend to be like Kenny Rogers in The Gambler and know when to hold them and know when to run. How do you become a part of the online poker experience? All you need is a little drive and Internet access. Here is how the process starts. Get online and use your web browser to click on online betting sites that are about online poker and offer assorted games. If you have a particular poker game style, make sure the site you choose has that game available. If you do not have a style yet, it is not a problem. It would be a great idea to research the rules of playing poker and know how to play before actually starting a game. Research the types of games and find out what game is your favorite. You know the saying “it’s not over until the fat lady sings?” In poker that is not true. There may be a fat singing lady somewhere offline but online, you can always ask for help. Most poker sites that you may run into have help buttons or search boxes so you can key in any terms you don’t understand to get their meanings. Once you have gotten past finding and learning a game that suits you, review and memorize rules so that you look professional. Now, let us talk about responsible gambling. Gambling can be enjoyable and entertaining. Even though it is competitive, respecting other players is important. Just because you are in an online betting site and can’t see the other players the “do unto others as you would want done to you” still applies. You can behave any way you like since you are at home, play in your underwear if you like, but in an online card room, remain respectful when playing your hand. When you are wagering you must understand that you are responsible for account transactions so mum’s the word on any password that may be given to you. Most online betting sites keep the personal identity and account information confidential. Of course you are 18 or above and as an adult you should know that it is up to you to read up on website rules and regulations. Some regulations researched from some casino websites are available to give you an idea of what you are getting into: * Players may play games for free or they can play for money; (how awesome is that!) * You have to be the legal age for gambling, which is 18. Imagine an embarrassing call from authorities to your mother to report your underage hand in winning a game and collecting the money under false pretenses. Yes, this is possible from playing online games. What is offered when we become official gamers? An online betting site may have a sign-on bonus that is either 20% or up to $100. That is a great incentive. You haven’t even started to play yet and already you are gaining some dough. This bonus is deposited into your own poker account within 24 hours. Here is the catch: you have to earn player points to clear your cash. The player point requirement is 14 times the bonus amount. That is not too bad since you are going to play anyway. And you probably will play more than 14 games, doesn’t sound too bad eh? How would it feel like to win up to five million dollars in a tournament? Right now such a tournament is happening. Just use your web tool bar in order to locate which site you need to go to so you can enter. You can enter such a tournament with as little as a dollar! Want to know some more about other tournaments online betting sites provide? Here are a few: * Daily Freerolls: this is a multi table tournament where you can join for free. The great thing about this is you have the chance to win bonus cash. You should check your website’s tourney schedule to see more details. If it’s for free, take a chance! * There are tournaments that suit both European and North American players. * You can play in All Lucky Dollar tourneys where the buy-in is only one dollar and cash is added to a prize pool. The winner has a chance at winning the prize pool. Once again, checking out what websites offer in regards to these kinds of tourneys is important. For one buck you can win a few more bucks. What a great opportunity!! * There are such things called satellite qualifiers in online poker. Satellites broadcast tournaments from specific destinations and combine them together to make large tourney events called qualifiers. Through satellite qualifiers, anyone can qualify for all main poker events. There are Single table tournament qualifiers and multi-table qualifiers. Which ever one you are more comfortable playing is the one that you should choose. * You can play in big tourneys through qualifier satellites for chances to win big prizes. For a few dollars you can join the really high stake tournaments. In a qualifier tourney instead of winning cash you win tickets to another tournament. You can bump to bump tournaments and build up tickets that can amount to cash. Since all tickets have an expiry period, make sure to pick a tourney that will have a long expiration time. This can allow players to find the right tournaments that have not expired yet. As you progress your poker playing skills, you have opportunities to join in different tournaments and games that will allow you to win actual money. Remember to pick an online betting site that is guaranteed to be safe, reliable, and most of all fun. Practice makes perfect. Educate yourself on new and even old poker hands so every time you are in a game you seem to play like a real pro.

The only constant in life is change

We have the fact that the MVP Award is announced and decided before the NBA playoffs are over. It is decided on before the first round is even over! What’s the result? It was announced Wednesday that Steve Nash will win his second straight MVP Award. Now I am not arguing that Nash is not worthy of his second MVP. Actually Nash supporters are going to say that he had a better statistical year this season than last season, when he was the clear choice for MVP. Sure, Nash upped his points from 15.5 per game last year to 18.8 per this year, but last year was last year. More importantly, Kobe Bryant and Lebron James were not in the playoffs last year and did not come even close to the caliber of seasons they each had this year. What I am arguing is that other players are just more deserving of the award. On Wednesday night, Nash got posterized like no one has ever seen before. Who was the player that abused Nash so horribly, you ask? Oh it was Kobe Bryant, another top candidate for MVP and someone more worthy of the honor than Nash. More than just making Nash look like a fool on national television, Bryant’s dunk in the fourth quarter sealed the victory for the Lakers over the Suns. This now leads us back to our issue at hand. The Suns might not make it out of the first round of the playoffs. After the Lakers’ 93-90 victory Wednesday night, the series is even at one game a piece. Now, the Lakers are heading back to Los Angeles with home-court advantage and control of the series. By the way the Lakers are 27-14 at home this year and we all know Kobe is going to turn it up a notch for the home crowd. If this round is the last stop for the Suns, where does that leave Nash? At home with his MVP trophy, even after he couldn’t beat the seventh-seeded Lakers in the opening round. Remember way back when Charles Barkley was actually one of the first MVPs not to win the NBA Championship? That was in 1993 and seems like ages ago now. Back then the MVP committee got things right, and even more ironic is that Barkley won the award while playing for the Suns, Nash’s current team. More over, if the Suns do in fact lose to the Lakers in the first round, the case grows even stronger that Kobe is the MVP. Do I have to read the laundry list of accomplishments to you? The man scored 35 points per game during the regular season, not to mention getting an overachieving Lakers team back into the playoffs with a record of 45-37. And now he might get them into the second round as a seventh seed. Without Kobe, this team would already be planning for the Draft Lottery. And what about Lebron James? The Cleveland Cavs are the fourth seed in the East. Let me repeat, the Cleveland Cavs are the fourth seed in the East. Don’t forget that the Cavs also won 50 games this year. This is an achievement in itself. Let’s not forget Lebron’s playoff debut; he only scored a triple double against the Wizards. This is exactly why the playoffs have to count toward the MVP voting, because the playoffs are where legends are made. Don’t get me wrong, Nash is a nice player who had a nice season. But aren’t MVPs supposed to be spectacular players who have spectacular seasons. Before you answer that question, answer this one. If you take Kobe away from the Lakers and Nash away from the Suns, which team suffers more? The answer to that is your 2006 MVP. I’ll give you a little hint. It’s not Steve Nash. The origin of baccarat the history of this fun card game

The word Baccarat is derived from the Italian word “baccara", meaning zero, and refers to the zero value given to all of the face cards and tens. In Europe, the game of Baccarat remains one of the most popular casino games. The game of Baccarat is enjoyed by all social levels and can be found played in locals cafes as well as the most prestigious of royalty events. An early version of the game was played with a deck of Tarot cards dating back to the middle ages. While Baccarat originated in Italy around 1490 it became the game of choice for the French nobility by the early 1950’s. Baccarat evolved into the French game “Chemin De Fer”, which translates as “Street of Fire”. The French game introduced the words “Banco” – which means they are betting the total value of the bank's funds and all other bets are withdrawn, “Cheval” – which means other players at the table may bet on either hand, as well as “Non” for standing and “Carte” which means the player would like one more card. Many American casinos have adopted the French terms used in the game to further the image of Baccarat as a glamorous game. European Baccarat is another variation but follows the same rules as the other versions of this game. What is known as American Baccarat actually originated in England and spread to South America. The version of the game that is played today came from the Capri Casino in Havana, Cuba. When Baccarat was introduced to Nevada in the late 1950's, local casinos attempted to instill the glamour associated with the European game. In most casinos, Baccarat was played in a roped-off area and was closely monitored and sometimes even guarded A number of casinos have installed a smaller version of the Baccarat game, called Mini-Baccarat and it is played on standard blackjack-sized gaming tables using the same rules. The table is staffed by one dealer who is responsible for handling the cards. The layout, however, conforms to the regular Baccarat table and each of the seven seat positions correspond to a number and betting box with spots for banker, player, and tie. Lacking the formality and large group of players, Mini-Baccarat is played fast and is an ideal place to get familiar with the game. While Mini-Baccarat may not be held in the same esteem as the parent game it still enjoys great popularity with the novice players.
