    Why is golf apparel so dorky

     

    Golf apparel is among the dorkiest clothing that is known to man, yet golf is one of the coolest games known to man—why the disconnect? Well that is what I would like to explore in the following piece. Keep reading and see if you agree with my ramblings. So many of the best golfers in the game are real big dorks right? I mean you can totally see why to, they have never had to do anything in life but play a game and they have been spoon fed by their mommies since day one. They don’t know what real life is about and that some people have had to work hard for not a lot of money and not everyone gets to have world class golf instruction from day one. They really are pretty ignorant and this, it is my contention, is what makes them among the biggest dorks that there is. So if these sorts of people are wearing a certain attire, that would make golf apparel pretty bad wouldn’t it? I mean really, who wears black and white shoes anymore except out on the links? Who wears dress shorts with shoes and socks? Only golfers really and it is right in line with the rest of the golf apparel scene. There is no sensible reason other than these guys wake up in the morning and have their clothes laid out for them by there mommies, or wives which are really no better, and they put them on without even thinking. Why should they have to think, they make more money than the rest of us and so if wearing dorky clothes is what they must do than that is what they must do. Now the real question is why doesn’t the general public see this problem and boycott all golf apparel until it becomes cool? Why do we put up with the fashion mishaps that we get by trusting a bunch of lily butts and their mommies for the clothes that we wear on the golf course? I am here to institute a new dress code that allows things like t shirts and sweat pants out on the course so that the rest of us can feel comfortable when we golf rather than all uptight, from being in clothes that make us real dorks.

         
    Why multilayer golf balls spin less off the tee and more around the greens

     

    Why do new multi layer balls used on tour spin less than the old tour balls off the driver but spin the same as the old wound balls off the wedge? Ryan Dees, Gainesville, Fla. During the collision between the driver and the ball (which lasts for less than half a millisecond, 200 times faster than you can blink your eye), there's an average force of 1,500 pounds being applied to the ball. This violent collision compresses the ball to about two-thirds of its diameter. The cover thickness is less than 3 percent of the size of the ball but doesn't much influence the outcome of this collision. Two-piece balls, which have been on the market for many years, will spin less and go a little farther off the driver than the soft, wound balata balls that were used on tour until five years ago. The hard-core two-piece ball will spin about the same as the wound ball off the wedge only if it has an extremely soft and relatively thick cover. But such a cover reduces the ball's distance off the driver. The trick is to get a ball to spin less than a wound ball off the driver but the same as a wound ball off the wedge. A multi layer ball will do this because it has a soft core (for speed off the driver face) surrounded by a hard mantle and a thin soft cover. The mantle reduces spin off the driver, and the cover, too thin to influence driver launch conditions, is soft enough to significantly influence the spin off the wedge. The collision between the wedge and the soft cover, less violent and more oblique than with a driver, generates more spin. Thus, designers combined new materials with a better understanding of the synergy between ball and club to create a more efficient multi layer ball. Could you please shed some light on how to determine the proper driver length and what the average driver length is on tour? Chuck Mooney, Davenport, Iowa. The average length driver on the PGA Tour is 44 1/2 inches. For most golfers, I recommend no longer than 44 inches. This will give you more control than the longer driver. You will develop more confidence and make a better swing. On average this will give you more accurate and longer drives. You might not win bragging rights with an occasional testosterone-inspired long drive, but you will lose fewer balls and enjoy your game a lot more. Shaft length is important, but don't forget to make sure you're comfortable with the flex of the shaft. Remember: If you think the 44-inch driver is too short, how on earth are you going to use a 3-wood or your hybrids, which are a lot shorter? Is there a published report that gives a true count of equipment used by PGA Tour pros? B. C., New Orleans An organization called the Darrell Survey goes through every competitor's bag on Thursday of every tournament to verify the pros are using the equipment they claim to be using or the manufacturers claim they're using. It has conducted these surveys for about 60 years. The information is sold to the manufacturers, who use the counts for advertising purposes. The information is considered reliable--at least for the first day of the tournament. Players may change equipment after the tournament begins, potentially draining the winning putt with a club not reported on the survey.

    : Let's continue our discussion.....on our golf training program article. Now, the best and last 2 simple & proven ways to improve your golf on the course. Finding out your “physical and mental limitations” is the first step towards a lifelong better game of golf. Once you find out what’s keeping you (which is quite easy) from making that perfect swing, you can set up a game plan to improve it. It may be a flexibility or a matter of adjustment or changes and even mental issues, or it may be a strength issue. But either way, you’ve got to find out what it is. Even veteran golfers are not spared from this. Is golf training program really works? The most common issue (especially for the older golfer) is flexibility. Not being able to rotate your body fully on the backswing (this may even injure your back or spine) , creating that power and torque for maximum clubhead speed. If your back swing is cut short, you may even LOSE yards on your drives! And I say again; no amount of lessons or hitting balls will make that any better. You’ve got to do specific golf stretches to improve this limitation. Now on the other side of these limiting factors is strength, specific to golf. And one of the most common limitations is weak the back of the upper leg. The role of this is critical. It allows you to maintain your golf posture throughout the swing and for 18 holes. It prevents undo strain on your lower back. And can give you a steady, comfortable position while putting. If your hamstrings are weak, I can almost say with certainty, you’ve got some low-back pain or injury. This is prevalent in older golfers and even the younger ones too. Back pain is the number reason to keep a golfer from playing his/her best. Have you ever walked off the course with your back in pain? I’m sure at one time or another you have. You can't just enjoy this game of golf, if your hamstring is weak. So, is there a solution for this without injuring your back and up your golf level.     Why talking a golf training system isn t always the answer part 1

     

    Golfers will do anything they can in hopes to play better golf and hit the LONG ball. Am I right? Are you in this group of golfers? If so, I’m quite confident to say you’ve taken a golf training system / lesson or or two. Golf training lessons can be very effective in getting you back on track, if your swing has gone south. But, not always.... Why is that so? Let me explain... How many golf training or lesson have you taken, only to be more frustrated, disappointing at your scores & performance and hitting the ball worse than before that golf lesson? Do you know why this is happening even to veteran golfers? It can be many different reasons, such as too many swing thoughts and possibly your behavior; making drastic changes that require hours at the range and hitting thousands of balls; or lastly, your body just can’t effectively move in the way it needs to, to make a mechanically correct golf swing, and many more hidden reasons.... I’m inclined to say that for the majority of golfers, especially the older golfer, it’s the last reason above. Your body just can’t move the way it needs to. The question now is, why is that so? Why can’t your body do what you know it needs to do to swing the club correctly? It can drive you to the point of quitting the game. But there is hope. There is an approach that will almost 100% of the time correct this problem. Do you want to know what it is? It’s addressing your “physical body and your mind limitations”. That’s what’s keeping you from a great game of golf. Do you know that hypnotherapy and even the misconceived NLP can improve your game of golf? Do you ever get on the course and just feel like you can’t make a full backswing? Or, it just feels impossible to maintain your golf posture and “stay in your swing”? No amount of golf training systems or lessons or hitting balls will correct this. The reason is your "physical and mind” issue, and until you work on it, it will never get better. I’ve seen it time and time again. Golfers walking off the course in pure disgust. They’ve taken many golf training systems or even paying tons of money for lessons that they already knew, hit balls at the range, and even bought the latest, greatest titanium drive; and yet still can’t play like they think they are capable of.     Why the golfing game has changed tremendously in recent years

     

    The golfing game has changed a great deal in recent years and so has the world. Those who are resisting the changes in the world instead of trying to understand them and adapt have often ended up in serious trouble. It is exactly the same in the golfing game. Those amateur golfers who are ignoring the great changes that we have witnessed in the golfing game in recent times have run into lots of difficulties and many of them no longer enjoy playing the game they way they used to, not too long ago. Some have even altogether given up the golfing game. Many of these frustrated golfers have failed to see the tremendous changes in the golfing game that have ended up affecting them. One of them is the change in the way golfers are training and preparing themselves for major tourneys and games. Actually the golfing game has always been considered a leisure activity where one need not even break into a sweat, let alone exercise. However this thinking and approach has changed completely in recent years. Most professional golfers these days schedule regular golf exercises into their daily routine. Numerous amateur golfers have done the same and the result is that even the physical appearance of major players of the golfing game has changed. They are getting more and more physically fit. When you compete with players of the golfing game who are involved in a golf-specific exercising program, the going can get very tough, because the level of their game is bound to be much higher than yours. And contrary to what many people think, these exercises as not so rigorous. My program has included senior citizens of upto 80 years old who have no problem in adapting to the exercises. And in the end the golf exercises have had a tremendously positive impact on their golfing game.

         
    Why tiger woods golf swing technique is so effective

     

    Golf sensation Tiger Woods’ golf swing technique has been the subject of many interesting studies. One thing that has come out very clearly from this leading golfer’s style and his golf swing technique is his amazing flexibility and high fitness level which have contribute tremendously to his golf career. A career that has seen him crowned in the minds of many as the undisputed greatest golfer in the history of the sport. The Tiger Woods golf swing technique sees Wood utilizing his flexibility at the back of his swing to comfortably reach far back. As he begins his swing, his level of fitness and muscle strength enables him to build up club head velocity by turning his torso quickly and pressing his right leg forward. There is minimal waste of energy as he maintains his position above the golf ball. Driving through, Woods uses his hips, shoulders and wrists to concentrate his force and create a high initial ball speed. Research has shown that within a few feet off the tee, the ball is usually traveling at about 180 miles per hour. The average tour pro usually manages only 160 miles per hour. If you have carefully watched woods and his golf swing technique, you will note that he usually allows the club head’s momentum to extend his follow-through far around his back, thus completing a long and smooth club-head rotation. Tiger’s golf swing technique cannot possibly be achieved by somebody who is not physically fit or somebody who does not work out regularly. In fact achieving an effective golf swing technique these days requires conditioned muscles that will enable you to perform consistently and at your best. Gone are the days when golf was viewed as a leisure sport where players would move around the course in electric golf cars to avoid breaking into a sweat of any kind. This is not to say that a good golf swing technique calls for rigorous golf strength exercising and golf stretching. Actually, most of the critical golf-specific exercises involve stretches. There is also the lifting of light weights to build specifically on strength rather than muscle. Clearly golf-specific exercises are the only way to develop a good golf swing technique.

         
    Why you need a golf handicap

     

    : The golf handicap system is a must if you are trying to improve your golf game. If you have a golf handicap, it gives you the ability to play in local tournaments against golfers with better abilities. Any golf course worth its salt will offer you the chance to get a golf handicap. Your golf handicap is a true barometer on your golfing abilities, as long as you accurately post your scores. The golf handicap system is a complex formula of your average score, along with the difficulty of the course you are playing, along with a few other bells and whistles that only the USGA can figure out. Every golf course has a course handicap, which determines the number of strokes needed to play that course to the level of a scratch golfer. What all this means to you, is that it helps give you a true indication of your golf ability. If you wanted to play a match against a scratch golfer, which is someone with a zero handicap, if you have a 7 handicap, you would receive 7 strokes, one for each of the first 7 most difficult holes on the course. It's like he's spotting you a 7 stroke lead, or a 7 hole lead in match play. Considering that golf is suppose to be a gentlemen's game, it is very important to post legitimate scores. There also are restrictions on how many strokes you can take on any given hole. As an example, if you have less than a 10 handicap, you cannot turn in a score card that has any score over double bogey. That is to try and keep sanbaggers from inflating their handicap so they can get more strokes when playing in golf tournaments. Once you post enough scores and you have established your golf handicap, you will see how hard it is to get a low handicap. It takes more than one round of golf for your handicap to move in either direction. It takes at least 2 or 3 rounds to actually make your handicap move, so you don't have to worry if you have a bad day on the course. If you go in to a slump and can't seem to fix what's wrong with your game, your golf handicap will suffer.. Sandbaggers aside, the golf handicap system is is a great way to measure yourself against other golfers.     Playing mini golf is not just for children. It is a game that can also be played by grownups which may be smaller than the ones in the real course. All the person needs to play is a golf club and a ball. People who have never played the real game will easily get the hang of it by just watching how others swing and putt the ball into the hole. Here are some tips when playing: 1. One should read the rules and regulations posted outside before playing the game. There are certain rules there, which are being implemented for the safety of the players and other people who frequent that place. 2. There is a certain dress code when playing this game. If that person wants to get serious in this game, one can practice more often and join some miniature golf competitions and even win a prize. Such facilities can be found on the web or by checking the local directory. Miniature golf facilities are not just for people who are normal but are also for people with disabilities. The law requires such places to make at least half the number of holes accessible to these individuals. Failure to do so will require the owners of the establishment to redesign the layout in compliance with the requirements of such recreational facilities. This activity is very affordable and it doesn’t really matter if one wins or loses. It is all about having fun which everyone can enjoy even if one is young or old and able or disabled.

    Watching the tournament rounds of today’s LPGA players is more exciting than ever. Annika Sorenstam continues to dominate women’s golf and shows where finesse, strength and athleticism come together to make way for the future. Is today’s female golfer really that different? You need only look as far as statistics from previous years in combination with current levels of play to answer that question. In 1998, only 7 short years ago, Annika drove the ball 246 yards in average driving distance. Today, her average distance is 272 yards. Since undergoing a full scale assault on fitness with the help of a personal trainer, she has gained close to 30 yards in new found distance. Is she the lone ranger in women’s golf or the wave of the future? Back in 1998, if an LPGA player drove the ball 250 yards, she was in the top 17 players in her field. Today, a player who drives the ball 250 yards won’t even place in the top 40. What accounts for these new performance standards and how can female golfers around the country prepare for high level competition? Build a Foundation - Learning how to properly engage the core muscles provides a platform of stability and level of protection from injury. In order to keep your body from breaking down and affecting your golf swing, exercises aimed at restoring muscular balance should be a natural part of program design. As you continue to build foundational strength, you also improve your resistance to fatigue. Progressive Resistance - Strength should be developed in a progressive manner. In order to get stronger one needs to progressively add resistance over time relative to previous workouts. Strength gains are made slowly, but consistently and you will see the difference in your game in no time. In the absence of progress with your program, you’re limiting your potential.     It used to be unusual to turn on the television and catch coverage of an LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tour, but that’s not so anymore. Of this season’s 34 women’s tournaments, only a handful won’t be televised. The hottest golfer on the LPGA circuit right now is Annika Sorenstam, currently the 2005 leader. Swedish-born Sorenstam is only 34 and began playing golf at the age of 12. In 2004 she posted 16 top-ten finishes (including eight wins) in 18 tournaments, and earned a record-tying seventh Rolex Player of the Year award, tying Kathy Whitworth for the most in LPGA history. She was the first women’s player to earn more than $15 million, and halfway through 2005 has already earned nearly $1.6 million. There are plenty of young women golfers following Sorenstam’s lead, realizing that women can also excel in what used to be known as a man’s sport. Players like Michelle Wie, Brittany Lang, Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel are all beginning to make a name for themselves. Creamer, a 2005 high school graduate, had already earned more than half a million dollars this year alone by the time she took her diploma. Many of these young women are coming up through the ranks of LPGA-USGA Girls Golf, a developmental junior golf program designed to not only teach girls the game of golf, but also life values such as patience, respect, perseverance and honesty. These girls are also learning to lead a physically-fit lifestyle. More than 4,500 girls ages 7-17 participate at 181 sites nationwide. This is an exciting time for women’s golf and an opportunity for young players to make their mark in history.

    All men who enjoy golf need to take time to play golf each week throughout the summer. I'm convinced of it. As the wife of a very busy husband and as a family therapist, I am convinced that all men need the break and the relaxation that comes from playing a round of nine or eighteen holes of golf. When I was first married I would get frustrated about my husband's sheer excitement about golf as each spring turned to summer. I would give him a hard time about buying a membership to a local golf club and I would even try guilting him out of playing as often as I could. I didn't realize until many years later just how important it was for me to let my husband enjoy his times of golf with other men. I've come to realize that my husbands life at work is busy and stressful and that playing golf is one of his favorite ways to relax and to enjoy time with his guy friends. I am no longer threatened that he isn't dying to get home at the end of each day. Instead, I see that golf is not the enemy of our family but actually a friend since it allows our husband and father to come home relaxed and refreshed and ready to pour more into our family. If you are a man, then I suggest you get to the nearest golf course and sign up for a summer pass. If you are a woman who has been hesitant to allow your man to golf, then change your mind and buy a summer pass for the guy you love. We all need times away from the stresses of home and work just to release some energy and to have fun. Golf is the perfect way for men (and some women) to do just that. I think it is important that men take time to golf with other men at least one time per week. Obviously, if we have a man that wants to golf six out of every seven nights in the summer then there is probably an issue to talk about. Men cannot use golf as an excuse to never be home with their families, but it can be a great way for them to get away and to refresh themselves for the stresses of family life and for time in the office. Men, grab a friend or two and get to a golf course soon. See how much fun you will have and how much stress you will release on the course. You'll be so glad that you have the time to golf that when it comes time to go home you'll have energy and desire to spend time with the family.
