    Embroidery manufacturing

Jacob Schiess started the first commercial embroidery manufacturing establishment in 1848 in New York. He came from Switzerland and within a year had his own embroidery plant in operation. All the stitching was done by hand by fifteen woman stitching exquisite designs by hand. The development of machine embroidery did not take place until the 1800's. Joshua Heilmann from Mulhouse worked on the design of a hand embroidery machine. Though he did not sell many, it revolutionized the embroidery industry. Heilmann's invention was quickly followed by the "shuttle embroidery" and the "chain stitch embroidery" methods. The beginnings of shuttle embroidery dates back to the 1860's when Isaak Groebli, from St. Gallen, Switzerland, was inspired by the work produced on the sewing machine. Around the 1870's there were fourteen companies manufacturing embroidery machines in Switzerland manufacturing hand loom embroidery machines. Today there are four companies manufacturing schiffli embroidery machines. In 1873, Alphonse Kursheedt imported twelve of the ten new embroidery hand looms from St. Gallen, making him the first American to use a mechanized embroidery process. The looms used multiple needles and were an unbelievable improvement over the age-old process of stitching by hand. They were, however, powered manually. Immediately afterwards, Isaak Groebli of Switzerland invented the first practical Schiffli Embroidery machine. This machine was based on the principals introduced by the newly invented sewing machine. Groebli's machine utilized the combination of a continuously threaded needle and shuttle containing a bobbin of thread. The shuttle itself looked similar to the hull of a sailboat. "Schiffli" means "little boat" in the Swiss dialect of the German language, so his machine came to be known as a schiffli machine. In 1876, Kursheedt began importing a number of schiffli machines to America, thereby making him the real founder of the schiffli embroidery industry in the United States. Dr. Robert Reiner, founder of Robert Reiner, Inc., of Weehawken, came to the United States in 1903 in his early twenties. Realizing the potential of the embroidery industry, he persuaded the Vogtlandishe Machine Works of Plauen, Germany, to appoint him it's American agent. This began a mass importation of embroidery machines into northern New Jersey's Hudson County. The banks arranged long-term credit to purchasers. Dr. Reiner made it possible for hundreds of Austrian, German, and Swiss immigrants in New Jersey to become manufacturers of embroidery. The industry grew until 1938, when suddenly the two sources for the manufacture of machines in Plauen, Germany, and Arbon, Switzerland, ceased operation because of World War 2. No additional machines were produced until 1953, when Robert Reiner Inc. introduced the first American-made schiffli machine. Gradually in time, improvements were made to the machine in America as well as in Switzerland and Germany. Today computers are playing a major role in the embroidery process.

    Engraver buying tips

Engraver tools comes in a variety of shapes and sizes and they are commonly made up of a hardened steel called a burin. Burin is used to cut designs into the surface of metals, most traditionally a copper plate. Engraving is the process of incising a design onto a hard, flat surface, by cutting grooves into it. Engraver tools come in a variety of sizes and shapes that yield different line types. The result may vary upon the kind of engraver and engraving materials that is being used. It may be a decorative object itself, as when gold are engraved, or may provide an intaglio plate when copper is used or even a simple relief print block when woods are engraved. 1. Engraver Tools If you are thinking about delving into the art of engraving you will need a set of engraver tools and some engraver materials. Purchasing the right engraver tool might be a quite complicated task for beginners. Before buying one make sure that you have already thought about what kind of engraver tools you will be using because there are different kinds of engraver tools that create different kinds of designs. Have a rough list of them when you go to your engraving store. 2. Engraving Tool Types: The Burin The most basic engraver tool and you will surely need one of them. Burin produces a distinct quality of line that is recognizable by its steady, deliberate appearance and clean edges. The Angle Tint Tool This has a vaguely curled tip that is commonly used in print creation. Florentine Liners These are smooth-tipped tools with several lines scored into them that are used to do fill up works on large engraver materials. Flat Engraver These are used for doing filling works on letter patterns and musical instruments. Round Engraver These are commonly used on metals that are hard to cut; they are also used to do bright cuts on silver materials. There are numerous kinds of engraver tools out there from square tipped ones to elongated diamond shaped engravers. When purchasing your engraver tool you can also bring in a sketch design of your sample work so that the store that you will be purchasing your tools can guide and give you tip into what kind engraver tools you should buy. 3. Engraving Tips - If you are into laser engraving and uses laser engraver tools always check the circuit parts of the tool and see to it that it is the same form as seen on the manual - A laser engraver usually looks like a photocopier that has a clear glass or heat resistant plastic over it - Check the parts of the machine if it is the same as of what the manual says - Check for electrical specifications for you might purchase a 110 V laser engraver and plug it on a 220 V circuit that may cause a great deal of damage on your engraver - If you are purchasing a computer-aided laser engraver, make it sure that the equipment is compatible with the computer that you are using. Because if its not you might just be frustrated on the end results of your design. - Don’t forget to mail your warranty letter to your engraver manufacturer - Check if their customer service number is working so in case of minor technical problems you can just call their service hotline for some troubleshooting advices. 4. Test It First When purchasing your engraver tools, don't forget to test them on different materials first. Some of them might already be dull due to the length of time they have been stored in the shop or maybe there was a manufacturers defect. When buying an engraver tool kit, usually an all-in-one pack of different engraver tool make sure that the tamper sticker are still on the box. Also check if the tools that you are about to purchase are still in one piece. Various engraver shops have testing booths inside their stores where you can test your equipments, but if ever they don’t have one there wouldn’t be any harm in asking for even just a piece of wood to test it on.

Faithbooking preserving your faith through your scrapbooks

“We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.” Psalm 78:4 When you get down to it, the reason we scrapbook is to tell a story. The story of our lives, the milestones we’ve reached, the journeys we’ve gone on, the trials we’ve endured and the joys we’ve shared. That is what is found in each scrapbook page. But if you are a person of faith, do you include how you prayed through the trials, leaned on your church family through your journeys and praised God for answering prayers? So often we forget to give credit to the Lord in our layouts for obvious demonstrations of His love for us! Faithbooking is much more than just adding Bible verses to your pages. It is more like a prayer journal with photos, a way to preserve your faith through the art of scrapbooking! Since most prayer journals are private and highly personal in nature, you can use faithbooking or praisebooking, as other have called it, as a tangible way to share your faith with those you love! Just think of the amazing treasure your children will have once you’re gone. Generations to come will see how your faith affected your life. So many of us have heard the legacies of our ancestors’ faith, but have little to show for it except stories passed down through the family. Faithbooking can not only serve as a family treasure, but a creative way to follow Psalm 78:4 and tell other generations of God’s wonders in our lives. Many people prefer their faithbooking to be quite simple, with just some photos and journaling, but just as God works in many ways, I believe we all have our own personal faithbooking style. If you keep your focus on God’s hand in your life and not on making a page worthy for the cover of your favorite scrapbook magazine, I think your pages will show your faith in a way that is yours alone! There are a growing number of companies that are making products just for Christians. I've found everything from papers, stickers, charms and eyelets with a Christian theme. While these are necessary to faithbooking, they do make nice additions to your pages and can help bring your pages together nicely. Remember, faithbooking is all about God working in your life! There is no wrong way to do it if you keep your focus on Him!

Family lineage is a treasure hunt

: Family lineage is one of the most interesting topics for anyone to discuss because it is unique to each family. Finding everything from royalty to heroes in family lineage is exciting. Having a personal record of family lineage is a great treasure. Recently, the Latter-day Saint church provided Larry King with a copy of his family history during his evening TV show. King commented that although he had received many gifts during his life, he would cherish the gift of his family lineage above all the rest. How do you find the origin and story of a family name as unique as von Niederhausern der Hoboлken Dans or as common as Jones? There are three major sources for finding information about your family lineage without the help of one of those little kiosks in the mall. 1) Family History Libraries The easiest way to learn more about your family lineage is to download all the information that has already been compiled. You can do this with the Ancestral File database that is indexed at the world’s largest genealogy library, The Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Downloading your family tree onto a GEDCOM file can help you do research on the ancestors you are most interested in. In order to find as much information on your lineage as possible in the database, you’ll need to gather information about your parents, your grandparents, and your great-grandparents. 2) Internet Since only a small percentage of genealogy enthusiasts will ever make it to the Salt Lake Valley, the information has been placed online at FamilySearch. org—a non-profit website that helps make vital records available to researchers. 3) Field Research Field research is not always the most practical method for filling in the gaps of your family lineage. It’s certainly the most time consuming, but it is also often the most rewarding. After exhausting the data that’s already been compiled in indexes, the next step is to do your own research. You can hire an accredited genealogist to do this for you, or you can tackle it yourself. Field research is done by going into census records, birth/death records, marriage records, and anything else that’s available in order to find information on a family. These are some basic sources of finding information. Certainly, volumes have been compiled on the subject of family lineage, but only recently has a new method of research been revealed—DNA testing. Through DNA, people whose research has hit a roadblock and hasn’t moved for years can conduct a DNA test to either confirm records already obtained, link themselves to someone they believe to be a relative, or determine what ethnicities make up their DNA. Remember that building a record of your family lineage is a very time-consuming process, but it is extremely rewarding. Through either the help of a professional or your own efforts, family lineage is a treasure worth discovering.

Why Gold American Eagle Coins are Popular among Collectors Gold coins are a favorite of coin collectors with an eye toward investment. Not only are golden coins lovely to behold, but they also have a value that is guaranteed, due to their precious metal content. The value of gold coins is usually higher than the value of their weight in gold bullion, making them a better investment than the gold market alone. Many countries produce gold coins for collectors or for commemorative purposes. These coins oftentimes emphasize unique aspects of the country’s culture. Australia reveres its national animal with the Gold Kangaroo, for example, while China has a Gold Panda with a lovely design that changes every year. The Beauty of American Eagle Gold Coins The Gold Eagle features a representation of Lady Liberty striding with torch in hand through a field of light rays on its front side. This image is inspired by a golden coin designed by Augustus Saint-Gauden and minted from 1907 to 1933. The Augustus Saint-Gauden Double Eagle is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful coins America has ever produced. On the flip side of the American Eagle gold coins is a nest full of bald eagles, the national bird of the United States. The nest represents the American dedication to unity and family. Furthermore, a special die is used when minting these coins, to bring the gold to an especially high shine and to make it easier to see small details in the design. American Eagle Gold Coins have Guaranteed Value American Eagle gold coins are valuable not only for their lovely appearance, but also because they are the only bullion coin whose gold content is guaranteed by the United States government. Each American Gold Eagle is stamped with its exact gold weight, as well as its face value. They are minted from 22-karat gold, which by law must be pure gold bullion mined from within the United States. This guarantee of the authenticity of the precious metals used to make American Eagle gold coins is highly valuable to investors. Buying American Eagle Gold Coins Golden American Eagles were first produced in 1985 and come in a variety of sizes and values, ranging from the 1/10th oz American Eagle coin with a face value of $5, all the way up to full ounce gold coins with a face value of $50. Figurine an art form

Figurine refers to the human made statuettes and the dictionaries describe the word as a diminutive form of the word figure. Earliest figurines are said to be made in the Indus Valley Civilization and they were all in stones. Although it is not exactly known as to why man made figurines, it is sure that in one way it was the graduation from the cave paintings and sketches perhaps out of artistic interests or because of awe and wonder for the supernatural powers that he could perceive. Figurines in the modern day are more a form of art than anything else. Figurines were used for a variety of purposes. While some were used to serve as deities in religious and ceremonial occasions, some of the figurines depict special purposes. This means that a woman gifted with figurine of “pregnant Venus” implied wishing successful fertility. Since figurines are mainly female figures, so they make great gifts in wedding and other rituals. The figurines are also meant to amuse children who spend their time playing with them. Some of the figurines also serve as jewelry for women. Different Faces of Modern Figurines In the present day art form, copper, glass, plastic, wood and even rubber are used in making figurines. In the recent history, figurines are adopted for playing board games such as chess. Players use differently colored figurines while playing the war game as in chess. Each piece in the game is a figurative replica of its live model. Today, figurines made of plastic and porcelain are popular for their adoptability to molding easily than stone which needs to be carved as the only form of making them and glass, although is best suited for molding, is rather used in making transparent figurines. Unlike the ancient times you can find figurines of all types and subjects to suit your needs and the ambience of your home and offices. It may not surprise you to find figurines made especially for occasions like for example, the Valentine’s Day or the Christmas Day. The most attractive and much in demand figurines belong to wildlife and floral designs. Figurine Collecting Hobby Internet has made life simpler for figurine collectors. Locating an interesting figurine over the net has a second advantage that you can purchase online. Figurines and the buying tips you must never ignore

Precious Moments collectible figurines are among the most popular in the world. Doe-eyed boys and girls made in pastel ceramics adorn the shelves, dressers, and display areas of countless homes. There are numerous types and styles of figurines that people can buy to build a personal collection in addition to the dolls and bears that so many shoppers enjoy. When shopping for your favorites, check to be sure that the item is genuine. Copycat manufacturers abound, much to a shopper's chagrin, so look at the signature label and sales tag to see if you are purchasing the collectible that you're after. If in doubt, ask the sales associate for assistance. Examine it carefully for cracks, stains, or other possible impurities that could make the piece ineligible for return if you find the problem after getting it home. Try to shop on a sale day. Often, there are special events advertised in the newspaper or on television to let consumers know that these special products will be available at reduced cost for a limited amount of time. Shopping these events can save you money while maintaining the high standard of quality that you are searching for. If a sale has not been advertised recently, you can check with your favorite stores to see if they know whether one will be coming up. Another option is to contact the manufacturer directly. You can visit the online Website or write a letter if you prefer. A telephone call to the toll-free number (if one is available) is another way to inquire about upcoming promotions or sales events as well as possible discounts. You can always check Ebay or Amazon as well if you don't mind buying used. With collectible items, this may not matter if you plan to hold on to the item for collector's purposes with a view to eventually selling valuable pieces. To get some ideas for starting a collection, visit specialty shops or ask a few friends or relatives for suggestions. You may prefer to do some online browsing by searching for "collectibles" and (add a subject word) to find items of personal interest. Then find a safe, attractive storage or display area for your new items. Continue to add pieces as funding becomes available. Over time, you will be able to enjoy the variance and value of your collection before selling it or passing it along to someone else who will enjoy it as much as you have.

Filtration necessary process to poison free aquarium water

: In order to have poison free aquarium water, filtration process is a very important to aquarist. Since most aquarists are aware of the fact that their aquarium water gradually accumulates potentially harmful substances, which eventually poison their fishes. In order to prevent this from happening there is need for filtration therefore, for our purpose I would define filtration as the removal of unwanted substances from water. Most aquarist uses three types: Biological, mechanical, and chemical amongst which the biological is the most important. Biological filtration is also referred to as undergravel filtration, because the major equipment used (a flat plate of perforated plastic) is placed under the gravel bed hence it is invisible. Unless you are properly equipped, you can’t see the process happening and cannot measure its effect. Yet this process is the major difference between success and failure, and the aquarist who does not take the time to understand it workings is doomed to watch an endless procession of dying fishes passing through his tank. Biological filtration is solely the work of bacteria attached to the surfaces of the gravel, the grave and the under grave filter together constitute the filter bed. Bacteria normally reach the filter bed through the food you give the fishes. The waste product of the fishes, the air, and even through your hands as you works in the tank. More on Aquariums at: Salt Water Aquarium.com As the water ages, their numbers increase until the gravel is loaded with millions of them. It is only then that the aquarium can function very well, because the wastes of the fishes and unwanted substances mainly ammonia are immediately broken down by those bacteria into harmless substances while at the same time the filtration action drags organic matter downwards into the spaces between the gravel’s where the roots of plants can then extract essential growth substances hence the undergravel filter promotes healthy plants growth. Mechanical filtration is the physical removal of debris, waste products, uneaten food, dead fish or plants. They use a filter medium such as foam, filter wool or sand/gravel to trap particles which are removed by later cleaning of the medium. Chemical filtration changes the composition of some substances in the aquarium. Ammonia absorbers, such as Ammogon tm help prevent problems when water aging is done chemically (treatment with chloramines releases free ammonia). Other "chemical" filtration includes ion exchangers which reduce either carbonate or sulphur hardness. Fine gold prospecting in the glacial till

If you live on the North Eastern coast of the US in an area that does not have natural gold deposits, probably the best chance you have to pan gold is in areas where the glaciers dumped their trash. Well, back to “some trash is other people’s treasure,” and that’s what we have with what the glaciers dumped on us. It can give you a chance to try out the gold prospecting hobby near your home before venturing off to a gold bearing region. In southwestern PA and Eastern Ohio we have an opportunity to go looking for these glacial deposits that are known to contain Fine Gold, Raw Diamonds and small Platinum. All of these are very fun and profitable to find. How did it get here? Well it really did not have a choice. It was pushed with an unimaginable force from Canada and then dumped in our backyard. In this area we were impacted by at least 3 main glacial periods. The Wisconsian, Illinoian and the Kansan periods came through and left us some fine gold to play with. Most of these 3 periods had numerous advances and retreats, so the maps will give a better idea of where to look. The best place I have found to get good information and maps is from the US government. They have a great map and information booklets available on there pa web site. It can be found at dcnr. state. pa. us/topogeo/pub/onlinepubs. aspx Make sure to look around while your there and download and print the books and maps that interest you. The Pennsylvania Glacial Deposit map can be found at dcnr. state. pa. us/topogeo/maps/map59.pdf The only difference in finding the gold compared to areas that have natural gold deposits is you will probably be dealing with smaller creeks and streams so dredging becomes a “do the best you can under the circumstances.” In looking for the gold in the Glacial areas I have not found much in the grey clay, most is found in the area about an inch from the top of the clay. In looking for a good spot while test panning, the black sand is still the best indicator. The benefit to those Glaciers dumping their till on us is for those of us that call this home, we get to pan for gold with out having to run off to California or Alaska. If you start your gold prospecting adventures with fine gold, you will become one of the best at recovering any type of gold. When you can pan the concentrate down and recover the fine gold and Black magnetic sand, just imagine how easy it will be for you when you get to a spot that has nuggets that you can pick up with your fingers!

    Fish tanks

A fish tank, also known as an aquarium, is a tank, bowl or other water-filled enclosure in which aquatic plants and animals - usually fish, and sometimes invertebrates, as well as amphibians, marine mammals and reptiles - are kept in captivity. Fish tanks are typically made of glass or high-strength plastic. Fish tanks were common in ancient Rome, Egypt, and Asia. Early Sumerians were known to keep wild-caught fish in pools, before preparing them for meals. In China, selective breeding of carp into today’s popular koi and goldfish is said to have started more than 2,000 years ago. The first fish tank to have been made of glass (dating to 1853) is on display in Regent's Park, London. Fish tanks usually contain fresh or salt water at tropical or cold temperatures. The conditions and characteristics of the fish and other inhabitants help the owner to decide what sort of water or plants need to be in the tank. A careful aquarist always tries to maintain a fish tank in a manner that resembles its inhabitant’s natural habitat. The water quality is very important, and this means controlling the inflow and outflow of nutrients. The maintenance of a fish tank also requires the careful regulation of temperature, light, and oxygen, controlling the waste produced by tank inhabitants, suitable species selection, management of biological loading, and good physical design. Aquarium keeping is now a popular hobby around the world. The fish tanks vary in size from a simple bowl housing a single fish to composite simulated ecosystems with carefully engineered support systems. A typical home aquarium contains a filtration system, an artificial lighting system, air pumps, and a heater. Additionally, some freshwater tanks (and most saltwater tanks) use power heads to increase water circulation. Many universities, marine stations, and wildlife commissions often maintain large freshwater and saltwater fish tanks for research and breeding purposes.

Five reasons your kids should learn a magic trick this summer

: Learning to do magic tricks can be helpful to your kids now and later in life. Magic tricks are a great hobby for your kids and here are five reasons that they should learn magic tricks this summer! 1. Boosts Confidence You can almost see your kid beam with pride when they learn a magic trick. When anyone (kids and adults) learn something new the feel good about themselves. This is especially true when you learn something new like a magic trick that can be shown to other people...it will make your kids self-esteem go through the roof! Studies have shown that kids with high self esteem are less likely to be bullied...or to bully other kids! 2. Public Speaking Magic tricks have a "script" that you say everytime you do the trick. Even simple kids tricks have a script, and when you kids learn to memorized the words to say while they do a magic trick they are working on thier public speaking! When a kid is comfortable speaking in front of groups at a young age they will have an advantage when they get older and have to give reports in school. There's a magician from Colorado named Zeezo, and he told me that he had a stutter as a kid. But by learning magic tricks, he was able to overcome his stutter! 3. Improves Motor Skills This is the obvious reason why your kid should learn to do magic tricks. Every magic trick your kid does will use thier hands, and the more you use your hands the more dexterity they will have! 4. Promotes Reading One of the first ways most kids learn magic tricks is from magic books, so your kids will have to read at some point to learn to do thier magic tricks. Kids are more willing to read when it's about something cool...like magic tricks! 5. FREE/ Inexpensive Magic isn't an expensive hobby to get your kids into. You can go to your local library and check out a book about magic tricks for kids for FREE! Another way to get your kids started learning magic tricks is with a magic kit for kids. You can get a good magic kit for around $20 and that magic kit can last your kids all summer! 6. Family Time Learning magic tricks is a fun way to spend a quality time around the table with your kid. You can help them read the book or instructions, or provide a critical (but constructive) eye while they practice. There are also many tricks that need two people to do, and you and your kid could do these tricks as a team! About the Author: Louie Foxx is a professional children's magician based out of Seattle.
