Ways of finding and buying antiques

Everyone wishes and dreams of owning nice antique furniture, who doesn’t? What were would you begin to look? It’s not as hard as you might think. Here are some suggestions on how to look or get an appointment for antique items. There are many things you can do. For instance, you can hand out want lists to people, telling them I collect antiques and give you’re number and let them know they can call if they know someone who could help you. It may seem like a tiring tactic but it could help. You could post different index cards on your local bulletin boards every Monday with one item that is on your list and your willingness to buy the item. If glassware is on your list, you can place “Collector will buy such old glass dishes”. You can keep posting different things that are on your list, and the want list doesn’t even have to be all fancy all you need is the information. If that doesn’t appeal to you , you can look in the classified ads to see if someone is selling any furniture, go and check it out sometimes you can get a great deal or even bargain with the owner. Now that would be great getting the furniture you wanted and paying less all at the same time, you can’t beat that. Another way would be the internet, which has become more useful and easier to find things. There are many sites that cater to selling antique furniture. Or you could look up where to buy them or some good deals on antique furniture. So go out there and fine the antique furniture you’re always dreaming of, it won’t come to you. With a little effort you can find what you’re looking for and enjoy it for many years to come.

What are arts and crafts and when was the term coined

What falls into the category of arts and crafts in today’s society? Generally we think of anything we make with our hands as a hobby and arts and crafts. The term Arts and Craft Movement was coined in the late 19th century. Craftsmen created their projects and strove for excellence in their work. These activities were called ‘crafts’ since many of them were professions under the guild system that was in place at the time. Children were apprenticed to master craftsmen to learn their skills. This apprenticeship lasted a number of years and the apprentice was paid a very low wage. When the training was finished, they were capable of setting themselves up in the trade to earn their living. Many crafts require skill but everyone can learn a craft by just practicing. Today, schools, community centers, and colleges offer classes to help you learn these trades. You can take a seminar, day class, or course. Some Craft stores offer classes on an on-going basis. The term craft refers to the product of artistic production to create objects of beauty such as ceramics, glass, textile, metal and wood. Today crafters are combining crafts to make a new version such as using wood and textiles with paper, pictures and more while they are scrapbooking. They create cards make of cardstock and paper. They decorate cards to use for friends and family. I have been the recipient of many of the Scrapbooking Cards created by my daughter, Colleen, and her friends. They use a variety of objects including buttons, bows, card stock, and photographs. I look forward to receiving many more in the future.

What are the advantages of buying pcgs graded coins

As a coin collector or an investor of coins, you no doubt have asked yourself the question of why you should buy professionally graded coins. These coins are also known as slabbed or certified vs. an uncertified coin which is known as “raw”. The term “slabbed” came about because certified coins are in a plastic slab. A topic such as this is quite controversial as each side of the coin has its staunch proponents. In this article though, we will concentrate on the advantages of graded coins, specifically PCGS graded coins. As you may know, there are several other grading services out there but PCGS has been ranked the most consistent in grading and ability. PCGS, a subsidiary of Collectors Universe, started grading coins for the public in 1986 and since then PCGS has graded millions and millions of coins. So why buy PCGS coins? Let’s answer that question now. The first reason, and this applies to all slabbed coins, is that a slabbed graded coin is now protected from further damage. Imagine taking out your best coin, a 1942-S Walking Liberty in what you believe to be MS-67 condition. In this condition, PCGS gives an estimated value of $25,000.00. It is an absolutely beautiful coin. To prepare for this moment, you put on your white coin gloves so as to not pass body oils to the coin. As you pick it up to examine it the telephone rings, or your two year old snuck up behind you and nearly trips you. The coin goes flying out of your hands and is rolling across your floor right towards the floor heat vent. You make a mad dash and dive to save the coin, but it is too late. The coin rolls over the lip of the heat vent and slips between the cracks into your house heating duct. You lift the vent out of place and reach in for your coin. Fortunately it did not go around the bend and begin the spiral down to the furnace. It may as well have. Your once $25,000 coin now has several scrapes, scuffs, and a ding smack dab above “In God We Trust” due to the screw it landed on in the vent. This same coin in MS-65 condition is worth $700. Even worse, in MS-64 it is worth $110. While the coin still has its original mint luster, the physical damage is there. Do you think this is an extreme example? Maybe, but I guarantee you that many a coin has been accidentally dropped by dealers and collectors reducing its grade by a couple notches and its value by countless thousands of dollars. Personally, and sadly, it has happened to me. I once dropped what I thought would be a MS-66 Red 1909 VDB Lincoln cent. Upon close examination after I dropped it, I noticed a few scrapes and scuffs not previously their. Yes, they were minor and barely visible, but I had it graded anyway, and it came back as MS-65. While my example was not with a $25,000 coin, it happens. I now clear a special area for handling GEM coins so this never happens again. A certified coin comes in a hard plastic container that not only protects it from silly mistakes but also it is sealed to further protect it from the elements. Yes, the natural elements (air pollution) can damage coins over long periods of time. Most grading companies will encase the graded coin in an air-tight container to ensure preservation. The second reason to buy a PCGS slabbed coin is that any coin graded a specific grade will retain that grade. A MS-65 coin will always be a MS-65 coin, unless of course you submit it for re-grading. With PCGS coins though, you can be fairly certain in the consistency of graded coins. With other grading services, inconsistencies bring uncertainty into an assigned grade. The third reason to buy PCGS graded coins is that when it comes time to sell, PCGS graded coins will command a premium over other slabbed coins. As an example, I checked recent sales of the very common 1921 P Morgan dollar in MS65 condition. Those certified from PCGS were commanding prices upwards of 50% over similarly graded coin from other grading services. While this is an extreme case, it simply points out the faith by collectors in PCGS coins. Naturally, it will cost you more to buy PCGS coins than other certified coins. The fourth reason to purchase PCGS certified coins is a coin graded by PCGS gives it instant credibility. Grading services first came about so that coins could be bought and sold without the buyer having to see it first. This was in the age before digital cameras and the internet. While there was a grading system in place in the early 80’s, grading was very arbitrary. A coin graded F-12 by one person would grade G-4 by another. By introducing an outside, disinterested party into the equation, both sides of a transaction could agree that the grade was correct. The idea was to create a system whereby dealers could trade/buy/sell coins without seeing them first. The idea was a hit. Today PCGS graded coins offer instant credibility. Whether you are buying or selling though, always buy the coin and not the grade. I have regrettably bought a few truly ugly high grade PCGS coins. While they were in decent shape, some had very unattractive toning and had I seen the coin first, I would not have bought it. Even though a coin carries a certain grade, you still need to ask details about certified coins and look at them first. With the introduction of the State Quarter program several years ago, coin collecting has seen a surge in the number of collectors. Thousands and thousand of new collectors have entered the hobby and with that there will be a higher demand for certain coins. While most of us began our hobby for the pure enjoyment of collecting, we still like to know that our investment is somewhat safe. I believe, and this is my opinion only, that with more and more collectors entering the hobby, certain high-end certified coins will continue to rise in value due to demand. As those collectors who started on State Quarters mature in their collecting endeavors, they will no doubt begin to collect older coins such as Walking Liberty halves and Morgan Dollars. Most likely this will be coins that have been certified. This will no doubt raise the value of certified coins. But this is only my guess. Coin Collecting can be a wonderful hobby and as you refine your collecting interests, PCGS graded coins can make a wonderful addition to your collection. As always, Happy Collecting!

    What is passsion for printing

Many people love what they do. I would like to talk about the passion for graphic arts. The persons who have worked for many years in the printing industry, the persons who had professional achievements in graphic arts certainly became fascinated by this field. You can feel how passion envelops you when you start liking it: the smell of printing ink, the smell of glue in the folding box gluing machine, the sound of cylinders of printing presses, the sound of die-cutters. You see an offer for a sheetfed printing machine and you remember how printers beat the sheets to prepare them for printing, how they adjust the inking with the help of ink level control devices for ink units, how they check the colour density of the raster. When graphic arts are your life, you can read one of the many online books thinking how it would look like if it were a printed book. The cover would be laminated, bright or matt, or it could be UV varnished. You would feel the smell of the heated adhesive of the book back gluing and back lining machines, you would see how the folding machine brings the large printing sheets to the small book format, you would feel the smell of fresh print when you browse through a book that has just been taken out of the production line. You go to the supermarket and while you put the products in the shopping basket you lean to read the label of the jam jar. You look carefully to see if it is printed only with process colours: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black and you wonder whether it is varnished or not. Is it flexographic or offset printing? How many colour groups had the printing machine? Was the ink ecologic or not? In the morning, you buy a newspaper to read. You are immersed in the titles of articles, but after some pages, your fingers turn black. You are fascinated by the smell of fresh print, but some questions spin in your head. What type of ink did the persons who printed the newspaper use? Was the web press of coldset or heatset type? You receive the phone bill at home and you notice every time how exquisitely is the logo of the phone company printed. How beautiful the printing is! What is the contribution of the printer and of the machine for printing envelopes? The label is printed so beautifully so that you get easier over the value of the invoice in the envelope even if it is quite high. When you buy a pack of medicines from the drugstore you can notice the metallic foil applied on the box and you remember the equipment that did it, you can hear the noise made by the die-cutting equipment, you can see the boxes on the band in the gluing machine. You receive a magazine advertising several products at promotional prices and you notice that the raster is a bit loaded and the pictures are not clear enough. You wonder if it is due to the pre-press when files were processed or something happened in the printing press. All these mean passion, being committed to the printing field. You start liking the printing industry so much that you want to share the feeling with other people. How could you do this better than via the internet? What if it is a virtual world, what if you see a picture or some details from a printing press? You can still feel the smell of ink.

    What is philately stamp collecting

: Philately, or the study of stamps, is a huge field of study that has captured the attention of many Americans over the years. This fascination with stamps and the history that surrounds them has led to a hobby related to philately, which is collecting stamps. Usually, stamp collection begins with the acquisition of a first couple of stamps and the choice of a particular classification of stamps where the collector will concentrate his or her efforts on. The continued acquisition of the stamps for the collection is done either through personal letters, the postal office, trading with fellow collectors, or collectible stamp dealers, rare and high quality stamps under the chosen classification. However, while it may seem that a philatelic hobby is far too difficult or obscure, it actually is not. The collection and study of stamps is not a completely novel idea; over 110 countries worldwide have a sort of society for philatelists (or stamp collectors and enthusiasts). In the United States of America, philatelists banded together in the year 1886 under the umbrella of the American Philatelic Society (APS). For more than a century now, the APS provides its members not only an avenue to meet fellow enthusiasts, but also various services and informational programs to assist in the pursuit and enhancement of the collecting experience. Over this huge span of time, the APS has been kept alive by donations, sale of its various publications, receipt of payment for its services, and receipt of its members’ dues. The community of APS is not a small one that may be overlooked. In the country, there are more than 44, 000 philatelists formally part of the APS. There are many others who are new to the trade, or are yet to find their way to APS. This huge number is proven by the fact that various states hold annual philatelic conventions for enthusiasts in the area to meet and convene. Another philatelic association in the United States known equally for its expertise is the Philatelic Foundation. Various classifications and concentrations of collection are available. Some of them include postage stamps from other countries (particularly those of age), postage stationery (including air letter sheets, government-issued post cards) that preceded the printing of the first stamp in the form we know today, revenue stamps, or first day cover stamps. What is the difference between a coin s price and its value

Price and Value are Not the Same Thing There is a big difference between the price of a coin, and the value of a coin. Although you often see these words used interchangeably, it is important that you understand the different concepts represented by each. The "Price" of a Coin is How Much it Would Cost You to Buy it From a Dealer This is pretty straightforward. The "price" of a coin is merely the amount that it would sell for on the open market, otherwise known as its "retail price." Coin prices are set by many different factors, including the type and grade of the coin, its rarity and desirability, and to some extent its availability in the marketplace. The most frequently used price guide to U. S. coins is the Red Book. The "Value" of a Coin is How Much You Can Sell it for Today Here's where it gets a little complicated. When you want to establish what your coin collection is worth today if you wanted to sell it, you are establishing its value. The amount you can sell your coins for (its "value") is considerably less than its "price" if you had to replace them. Dealers need to make a profit to stay in business, so when you go to sell your collection, you're not going to get those nice, high Red Book prices. The Red Book prices are retail amounts. Consider the Blue Book There is another book, known as the Blue Book, (formally titled "Handbook of United States Coins"), which is the most widely used guide to wholesale coin values. These are the values a coin dealer will offer to pay you for your collection. They typically run about half of what the coins retail for. Coins which derive most of their value from bullion (such as common-date American Eagles and Double Eagles) will get you more (75% to 85% or so) because most of their value is based on the gold itself, rather than the rarity of the coin. Appraising Your Collection for Insurance Purposes The one time when it is correct to use the "Price" metric to determine what your collection is worth, is when you are establishing its value for insurance purposes. In this case, you want to insure the replacement cost of your coins. Since you'd have to pay the Red Book (retail) price to replace them, this is the metric you should use. Always be Realistic About Prices and Values There is nothing more satisfying to a collector than to pluck a coin worth $100 in the Red Book out a dealer's $10 pick bin. And in this case, you've probably done very well, because it's likely the dealer overlooked something here. But the more typical case is finding lots of $20 Red Book priced coins the $10 bin. This is because the dealer is probably overstocked in this material, and would be happy to get his cash back to make more marketable purchases. Be careful that you don't get carried away thinking you're getting bargains in cases like this, because the amount you can sell the coin for, its value to you, is about what you paid for it. In other words, don't deceive yourself into thinking that the value of a given coin is equivalent to the price you paid for it. montanicoins

What kind of coin collector are you

Casual coin collecting The most ordinary type of coin collector is the casual collector. Casual collectors are both kids and adults. They collect random coins because they like the fun of it. The casual coin collector does not spend as much money on buying and preserving coins as a more advanced coin collector. Casual coin collectors usually have interest in coins with a special meaning to them, like for instance a coin minted in their year of their birth. Casual collectors often get hold of more interesting pieces as gifts from friends or family members. The gift of a rare coin has transformed many casual collectors to curious collectors instead. Curious coin collecting When a collector goes further than just circulation finds and getting gifts. He develops more of an interest in coins and becomes more a curious collector. The curious collector will buy some inexpensive coins, maybe look around coin shops or look at coins on eBay or other related internet sites. That way a survey of potentially interesting areas of coin collecting is made, and as the curious coin collector interacts with more seasoned collectors, he is bit by bit learning the trade of buying or selling coins. Like for instance studying coin books before making any serious decisions about buying expensive coins. At a point most curious collectors learn enough to become an advanced coin collector. Advanced coin collecting Every advanced coin collector is a unique coin collector. Some are dedicated generalists looking for a few examples of all kinds of coins. If they do have enough resources, this can result in an astounding collection, as that of King Farouk of Egypt, who collected everything he could get his hands on. Many coin collectors are completists who want an example of everything within a certain set. For instance Louis Eliasberg was the only coin collector thus far to assemble a complete set of known coins of the United States. Other coin collectors focus on coins of a certain nation or historic period. And some collect coins from various nations or settle on error coins or exonumia like tokens and medals. As you can see, it can vary a lot. At the highest levels of coin collecting, it is a highly competitive sport. It can lead to astronomical prices as enthusiastic collectors struggle for the very best examples of each date and mint mark combination. Historical coin collecting Coin collectors of ancient and medieval coins are more interested in historical significance than other coin collectors. The coins of Byzantine, Roman, Indian, Greek, Celtic, Merovingian, Parthian, Ostrogothic and ancient Israelite origin are among the most popular ancient coins collected. Specialties tend to vary a lot, but the common approach is collecting coins minted during a particular emperor's time in power. A completist would for example strive for a representative coin from each emperor. National coin collecting Usually coin collectors of national coins specialize in the coins of their own country. A common way to collect national coins includes collecting one of every date and mint mark for a particular series. This is termed collecting by type. For instance a date set in Britain may include one Queen Victoria large penny for each year, 1837–1901. In another example a U. S. type set might include an example of each variety of each denomination produced. Most coin collectors of national coins create unique combinations of date, mint mark and type sets. Error coin collecting Collecting error coins is a modern development made doable through the automation of coin manufacturing processes. Coin collectors of ancient and medieval coins; accept coins with errors because manual coin manufacturing processes lend unique features to each coin struck. Examples of coin errors could be repunched mint marks, doubled dies, double strikes, overdates, off metal coins, clipped coins, displaced or off center coins, and different denominations on two sides of one coin. World coin collecting World coins are collections of relatively recent modern coins from nations around the world. Geography is often the engine for this type of collector; he can travel around the world through his coin collection. Many collect by subject, for instance collecting coins from around the world featuring animals. World coins are usually inexpensive and may be a good starting point for children. Most children find foreign coins by looking under change-to-cash machines, where customers throw away assorted coins found in their penny jars. It is possible to find coins from all over the world, ranging from Canada, to South Africa, to Korea.

What model of dirt bike should you buy

The selection of a dirt bike is never a simple activity but here are some all-important aspects that will help you pick the right bike: Height and weight: Your height as well as weight plays a large role in dirt bike selection. The most critical thing is that one needs to feel comfortable on your bike to be able to drive it across difficult or dirt terrain. The more comfortable you are the better your control on the bike. The important thing is that you should sit on each of the bikes and see if your feet can touch the ground or not. If your feet are touching the ground then it means that you will be able to hold the bike up on both wheels and will also be able to start and stop it safely. Here is something for you to consider: The top women drivers in the motocross circuit are less than 5 feet 4 inches tall and they race 250F and 450F bikes. We are talking about motorcycles that are larger than the motocross bikes. Now did you get a boost of confidence? Good! Your weight is another important issue. So what you really need to do is lay down your bike on the ground first and then try to pick it up alone. If you are able to do it for a particular bike then that’s the bike you should consider buying. 4-stroke or 2-stroke: There is quite a lot of difference between a 4-stroke and a 2-stroke bike and most of the difference lies in the way the engine of both the bikes work. A four-stroke bike will deliver smooth power whereas a 2-stroke bike will deliver power in an abrupt manner. This basically means that 2-stroke bikes are harder to control. If you compare cc to cc and the displacement of the motor then the 2-stroke bike will have more power than the 4-stroke. Both the 2-stroke and 4-stroke bikes don’t need much maintenance. If you buy a 2-stroke bike then you will need to take care of pre-mix gas, which is basically adding oil to gas while maintaining a specific ratio. 4-stroke bikes can easily run on the regular gas but you will need to ensure that the engine oil is changed more often and also the oil filter will have to be changed on a regular basis. Type of track: A lot depends on the type of track you are going to ride on. Of course dirt bike as the name sounds is supposed to run on any dirt track but it is not always the case. There are all kinds of tracks and some tracks can be handled well by 4-stroke bikes while some are handled better by 2-stroke bikes. If you are thinking of riding tracks or motocross then you should ideally look at the 250F race bikes (4-stroke) or even the 125cc (2-stroke). You will need a bike that is lighter and has a better suspension to enable jumping. Here are some popular dirt bike models: 4-stroke dirt bikes: * Kawasaki KLX125, KDX200 * Honda CRF150, CRF230, CRF250X * Yamaha TTR 125, TTR230, TTR250, WR250 * Suzuki DRZ125 and DRZ250. * KTM 200 XC * Kawasaki KXF250 * Honda CRF250R * Yamaha YZ250F * Suzuki RMZ250 * KTM 250SX F 2-stroke dirt bikes: * Yamaha YZ80 and YZ125 * Kawasaki KX80 and KX125 * Honda CR80R and CR125R * KTM SX125 * Suzuki RM80 And RM125 If you are looking for a non-branded dirt bike then there are plenty in the market like the SS50QGY and the GAS181 frame bikes.

What should i look for in a metal detector

If you are planning to buy a metal detector, you should check out the features of each before buying one. Metal detecting is a fun hobby but having the wrong equipment can cost you time and money. When buying a metal detector consider the price. If the metal detector offers the best features of a then expect it to be expensive. If having fewer features is all right with you, go for a less expensive one. Metal detectors can run from as low as $50 to higher than $400. Some metal detectors use BFO (Beat Frequent Oscillation). This technology contains two coils of wire. The two coils are represented by two wires which is the large and the small. The large coil can be found in the search coil of the detector while the small coil is found on the System Control Pack. The coils are connected to an oscillator which produces pulses of current. The pulse passes through the coils in order to generate radio waves. A receiver within the System Control Pack receives the radio waves causing it to make a series of tones which is based upon the frequencies coming from the radio waves. Once the detector search coil encounters a coin or any metal item, it is surrounded by a magnetic field which causes interference with the frequency. The tone produced by the receiver is then changed. In choosing the best detectors, you should pick the ones with BFO. This technology is the easiest to use and the cheapest to own. Metal detectors using PI (Pulse Induction) technology often makes use of a single coil or even a series of coils that works as a receiver and the transmitter. The short bursts of electricity are allowed to pass through a coil or wire which causes magnetism. The magnetic field will reverse its polarity if the bursts of electrical current are stopped. More pulses are created when sharp electrical spike is created. Then the whole process will repeat and works like a series of echoes, giving it a different report which depends on the metal it has encountered. Therefore, this type of detector is not that ideal for discrimination between the various types of metals or coins. This is appropriate to use in areas where salt-water and metals can be detected. VLF (Very Low Frequency) is a metal detector having two search coils. The two coils are the “transmitter coil” which rapidly transmits electricity and the other coil known as the “receiver coil”. The activity of this coil is implied in its name already. It is responsible for receiving frequencies that bounce back from the object that the coil detects. This type of detector is best for identifying different types of metals. Now that you have learned the three different types of metal detector, it’s up to you to make your choice as to what type of detector you wish to use for your searches.

What small wire welder should i buy for my shop

Probably the most common question we get asked is - "What wire welder (mig) should I buy for my small home shop? " It's a good question but what most people don't realize is that most small wire welders in the 110 volt range are very similar and it's probably the electrode choice, gas choice, duty cycle, input amperage and total output amperage that will matter most in the end. Let's discuss these items Electrode choice - Most of these small machines will come with flux cored wire. (The shielding flux is inside the wire and requires no shielding gas) Flux cored wires and small limited Amperage input/output hobby welders are not a match made in heaven. There is more than one kind of flux cored wire 1) flux cored without gas 2) flux cored with gas. Flux cored wire does have it's place. It is a high penetrating process that will not go away. But most hobby welders lack the know how to run it and don't care for it's weld appearance. In addition, most small wire welders don't have the duty cycle to run flux cored wires for any length of time. If you choose to run it we suggest the following - 1) Increase your stickout (distance between the contact tip and base metal to 1/2" as this allows the core flux to melt and become gas and liquid in the molten puddle. 2) Increase your voltage as most flux cored wires prefer a longer arc length and in wire welding voltage=arc length. When wire welding always remember - Voltage = Arc length (you can also think of it as weld width) Why? The higher the voltage, the longer the arc length, and, the longer the arc length the wider the weld. 3) Use inline motions. Inline motions (drag, 1/8" forward stop repeat ) allow the molten puddle to maintain heat and eliminate the chances of welding over flux already deposited. We have small welders set up side by side for users to compare. 1) flux cored without gas 2) flux cored with gas 3) solid core (Er70s6) with 75/25 gas When users try #3 they don't want to go back to #1 or #2. SO if you purchase one of these machines keep in mind that you might want to opt for the gas kit so you can make the switch and remember you'll probably have to. HOWEVER, don't toss the flux cored wire in the trash can ! You might have some applications (i. e... outside in windy conditions, in the field where gas is not portable enough) to use it. Gosh that took a long time ! The next ones are easier ! Gas Choice - CO2 - Carbon Dioxide is the least expensive, most penetrating of the 3 with the least weld flow and poorest weld appearance. 75/25 - Argon/CO2 is more expensive, less penetrating than CO2 but have good weld flow and weld appearance. This is the most commonly used. 92/8 - Argon/CO2 is the most expensive and least penetrationg of the three and provides excellent weld flow and appearance. It is excellent for thin metals and auto body work. Duty Cycle - The amount of time in 10 minutes a machine can perform (weld) at a given amperage. Example - 50% at 60 amps means you can weld 5 minutes out of 10 minutes at 60 amps. Input Amperage - The required amperage delivered to a machine. This is a point that many people forget when purchasing a machine. If you purchase a 110 volt machine and plug it in to an outlet in your garage which has other items pulling from it you will have input amperage issues. It's a good idea to have a dedicated circuit for your welder or you will be tripping the breaker every time you weld. Total output amperage - The Amps the power source will deliver for a given duty-cycle period. You just can't expect a 110 volt machine to deliver more amps than it's capable of. Don't get us wrong ! Small wire feed welders have a place in the world but you have to realize that they have the highest return rate of any welder on the market. Hopefully now you know why, and know if one belongs in your treasure chest of equipment in your shop. Just our 2 cents Good Luck ! Staff - weldguru

What to look for in a cost efficient digital slr camera

For the most part, digital imaging is pretty much a hot item today and people have long since traded their film-based auto-focus cameras with digital ones. After all, it's more convenient and cost-efficient to get all your still shots recorded in one device rather than having to change films when your old one runs out. The birth of the digital SLR camera has provided a new opportunity for many people to try photography as a hobby in spit of their busy schedules. According to recent reports, sales for digital-based cameras have increased over the years as more people have started growing more interested in pursuing digital photography as a worthwhile hobby. Professional photography, however, is a different matter altogether. With professional photography, the choice of SLR camera is important in bringing out the desired effect that you want in your still shots. This is not just a matter of capturing moments but making the photographs tell the story and eliciting a response from its spectator. Selecting the right digital SLR camera can be quite a challenge what with the wide variety of options available in the market. For upcoming photographers, cost is one of the many things that they need to consider. Prices of cameras vary so before you decide to shop around for one, you will want to decide on how much you’re willing to spend. But price is not the only determinant of a cost-efficient gadget. It goes without saying that you should also look into the quality of the product and its overall performance. Remember that you will be investing on a gadget that you will probably use for quite some time so it pays to be extra careful when choosing an affordable digital SLR camera. Here are some things that you need to look for when shopping for your first DSLR camera. Image quality When people shop for digital cameras, the first thing that they usually ask about is the product’s image quality. Resolution has always become one of the first measures of quality for such types of gadgets. The rule of the thumb is that the more megapixels the camera has, the better its image quality. For beginners, a camera with six to ten megapixels in resolution is good enough. Such image quality is suited for basic prints and enlargements without the exorbitant price tag. Professionals who are looking for a DSLR camera to supplement their current equipment will usually opt for those that have higher resolutions. The latest ones usually come with sixteen to eighteen megapixels and are capable of producing large image files without sacrificing detail definition even after editing. Sensors With traditional SLRs, having a larger sensor is important especially if you want to maximize the potential of lighting in creating quality images. Typical DSLRs usually come with smaller sensors than their film-based counterparts so it’s a good idea to pay close attention to this detail when you go shopping for your camera. It’s best to go with at least a 35mm frame sensor which is the standard for most traditional cameras. Shutter speed and performance Your choice of DSLR camera will also depend on where you’re going to use it for. People who are into action photography will probably require a camera that has an impressive shutter speed. This will enable you to capture certain details that get lost in the action. With DSLRs, you will find that the shutter speeds are varied across different models and brands. Shutter speed is normally measured in frames-per-second so look out for this particular detail when considering certain camera models. Features such as multi-sensor modules will come in handy when you need to take pictures in places that have poor lighting or where your movement is pretty limited. It’s also a good idea to check on the camera’s response time. Shutter lag, or the gap between pressing the release button and the actual capture of the photo, should be kept to a minimum to make sure that you’re not missing on crucial details. Handy features If you're always on the go, it's better if you get a DSLR that is relatively more compact than most of its kind. SLRs are generally bigger than point and shoot cameras but this is not to say that size shouldn't be one of the areas that you should consider when making your selection. It would be a good idea if you chose a model that you can easily take around with you. Aside from the size, a camera that allows for easy upgrades. There are even those that come with their own lens packages. You will want to go with a DSLR camera that can be easily updated and is also compatible with the operating system in your computer. You may want to get a model that comes with a USB connectivity option as well as one for wireless or Firewire so you can easily transfer your images to your computer or printer.

What to look for in a great slr digital camera

The technology of photography has continuously evolved and improved since the turn of the 20th century. The demand for traditional camera that used films has long been decreased. With the current technology, digital cameras have been introduced. People who love capturing every single moment are indeed amazed by the digital cameras. This is because of the ease that the camera offers for those who are not really into photography. Technology isn’t only for those who are not into photography; it also offers something to those who consider photography as a profession and science. Professional photographers find their job and profession easier to manage and do and at the same time more relaxing with an SLR Digital Camera. A digital single-lens reflex camera (digital SLR or DSLR) is a kind of digital camera with an automatic mirror system. The automatic mirror system applies the theory of prentaprism wherein light is directed from the lens through the use of the viewfinder. Its design is completely different from an ordinary digital camera. An ordinary digital camera exposes the sensor directly to the light which is projected by the lens whereas as DSLR uses its mirror arrangement to prohibit the scene from being viewed on the LCD. Now, new models of DSLR have a live preview feature where LCD can be used as viewfinder. If you are contemplating of buying an SLR Digital Camera, you have to take note of its features and operation system. Be aware of its differences from a standard one. Be sure to distinguish which one is good and which is not. A good SLR Digital Camera has complete features including the unusual ones. Check if the SLR Digital Camera you are buying has the ability to record the ultraviolet spectra of light. Check if the camera has a mode dial feature. It is used to access the camera settings. A good one should also have an automatic scene-mode feature. Check the focal length and sensor size of the camera’s lens. A good SLR Digital Camera has a big sensor. This gives a bigger angle view depending on the focal length. Thus, a good SLR digital camera has a more than average focal length. This type can be more expensive but you are assured of the greater quality of the image. A good SLR Digital Camera should have depth of field control. It is possible to limit the depth of field. It is not good if the photographer cannot adjust or limit the depth of field because he can’t take pictures where the background is sharpened. A good SLR Digital Camera should have wide lens. The wider the lens, the greater the depth of field can be and it is easier for the photographer to adjust it to the limit and depth he wants. SLR Digital Cameras are generally big in size, greater in cost and has lack of video mode. But camera manufacturers have started releasing cameras better than usualpared to the first releases of SLR Digital Cameras, newly released SLR Digital Cameras are now smaller, although still larger than the ordinary digital camera. A good SLR Digital Camera is a little smaller than the usual and has a better video mode than the standard SLR Digital Camera. Due to SLR mirror mechanism, it is normal for the camera to create some noise when being used. But manufacturers have it improved by minimizing the noise produced in its operation. A good SLR Digital Camera is the one which is more quiet than the usual. Changing of lens is possible for an SLR digital camera. Thus, contamination caused by dust particles when changing can’t be avoided. It is therefore advised that you look SLR Digital Camera which has the ability to clean the dust from its camera sensor. A good SLR Digital Camera also has a 3 Asic (application specific integrated circuit). It is a digital engine that supports the camera to perform mask generation. This is for the purpose of increasing the speed accuracy and sharpness of the photo. It is best when the camera you are buying has an auto focus system design. This is recommended for those who love taking moving images. Without the auto focus, it is very difficult to get the perfect angle. It should also have the white balance system increase and maximize the output of the photo. What makes the SLR Digital Camera good is that it is user friendly. With all the complicated features mentioned above, one will find in the end that it’s simple. With the programmed mechanism and operation, it is easy for the photographer to just find the image, snap and print it. Indeed, technology is quite amazing. This can be proven in digital cameras. All you need to do is find one that suits your style, your profession and your budget. You’ll make one good photographer with a good SLR Digital Camera on your hands.
