One of the most beloved shows in television history, The Andy Griffith Show takes its viewers back to a simpler time of small town America, apple pie, and black and white television… The trademark whistling theme song is one of the most recognizable in history, and the duration of the show in syndicated reruns is unrivaled by its peers. The andy griffith show season 6 dvd review

One of the funniest sitcoms in television history, The Andy Griffith Show chronicles the happenings of the small town of Mayberry and its easy-going Sheriff Andy Griffith. Andy is joined by his young son Opie, his deputy Barney Fife, his Aunt Bee, and a plethora of oddball, eccentric, and sometimes wacky characters. The small town American charm of this series harkens to a simpler era in American life that often makes people nostalgic for the "good ole days"... The Andy Griffith Show (Season 6) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere “Opie’s Job” in which Opie falls into a heated competition with another boy for a grocery store job, prompting Opie to run all over Mayberry delivering goods in an attempt to please his boss… Other notable episodes include “Off to Hollywood” in which Andy receives a one-thousand dollar royalty check for his idea for a show “Sheriff Without a Gun,” prompting those around him to convince him to take a trip to Hollywood with the money, and “Aunt Bee Learns to Drive” in which Aunt Bee buys a car from Goober so she can learn to drive for herself and not be reliant on others for transportation… Below is a list of episodes included on The Andy Griffith Show (Season 6) DVD: Episode 160 (Opie’s Job) Air Date: 09-13-1965 Episode 161 (Andy’s Rival) Air Date: 09-20-1965 Episode 162 (Malcolm at the Crossroads) Air Date: 09-27-1965 Episode 163 (Aunt Bee, the Swinger) Air Date: 10-04-1965 Episode 164 (The Bazaar) Air Date: 10-11-1965 Episode 165 (A Warning from Warren) Air Date: 10-18-1965 Episode 166 (Off to Hollywood) Air Date: 10-25-1965 Episode 167 (Taylor’s in Hollywood) Air Date: 11-01-1965 Episode 168 (The Hollywood Party) Air Date: 11-08-1965 Episode 169 (Aunt Bee on TV) Air Date: 11-15-1965 Episode 170 (The Cannon) Air Date: 11-22-1965 Episode 171 (A Man’s Best Friend) Air Date: 11-29-1965 Episode 172 (Aunt Bee Takes a Job) Air Date: 12-06-1965 Episode 173 (The Church Organ) Air Date: 12-13-1965 Episode 174 (Girl-Shy) Air Date: 12-20-1965 Episode 175 (Otis the Artist) Air Date: 01-03-1966 Episode 176 (The Return of Barney Fife) Air Date: 01-10-1966 Episode 177 (The Legend of Barney Fife) Air Date: 01-17-1966 Episode 178 (Lost and Found) Air Date: 01-24-1966 Episode 179 (Wyatt Earp Rides Again) Air Date: 01-31-1966 Episode 180 (Aunt Bee Learns to Drive) Air Date: 02-07-1966 Episode 181 (Look Paw, I’m Dancing) Air Date: 02-14-1966 Episode 182 (The Gypsies) Air Date: 02-21-1966 Episode 183 (Eat Your Heart Out) Air Date: 02-28-1966 Episode 184 (A Baby in the House) Air Date: 03-07-1966 Episode 185 (The County Clerk) Air Date: 03-14-1966 Episode 186 (The Foster Lady) Air Date: 03-21-1966 Episode 187 (Goober’s Replacement) Air Date: 03-28-1966 Episode 188 (The Battle of Mayberry) Air Date: 04-04-1966 Episode 189 (A Singer in Town) Air Date: 04-11-1966

    The aviator dvd review

Nominated for 6 Golden Globes and 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, The Aviator wows audiences with its breadth of scenery and vivid realism. Director Martin Scorsese, known for a host of excellent films such as Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990), Casino (1995), and Gangs Of New York (2002) - not to mention the highly controversial The Last Temptation Of Christ (1988) - by no doubt turns out his best work since Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci) sought to become a made man. The Aviator springs to life with nostalgic settings and a lavish tapestry of color and form, evoking all the enthusiasm indicative of Howard Hughes' unique lust for life. John Logan, known for such films as The Last Samurai (2003) and Gladiator (2000), presents a screenplay that provides some insight into the enigmatic Hughes and captures the mannerisms of those who shared that life with him. In short, the film is a masterpiece of visual imagery and first-rate cinematography few movie lovers can afford to miss… The Aviator focuses on the early life (1930-1947) of America's most eccentric and bewildering billionaire playboy, Howard Hughes. Know for his seemingly erratic business dealings and fearless sense of adventure, Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio) turned a small inherited fortune into an enormous corporate empire. And along the way, he captured the imagination of those around him with an attitude that embraced risk and life itself. Inheriting a majority interest in the Hughes Tool Company (founded by his father), Hughes embarks on a career in Hollywood where he produces a number of notable films including Hell's Angels, The Front Page, and Scarface. Hughes' obsessive dedication to perfection makes his stock rise in Hollywood and even helps launch the career of Jean Harlow… But Howard Hughes is not just a one-trick pony, and his interest soon turns to the flourishing aviation industry where he becomes an integral part of TWA and pilots his own planes on a regular basis. His driving energy would lead Hughes to enter the defense industry, the electronics industry, Las Vegas casinos, and numerous other activities in the years ahead. But along the way, he deals with a cast of characters colorful in their own right. Romances with Ava Gardner (Kate Beckinsale) and Katherine Hepburn (Cate Blanchett) provide insight into Hughes' personal life, while Noah Dietrich (John C. Reilly), Hughes' assistant and right-hand man, sacrifices much in his own life to enable Hughes to live out his latest visions and inspirations. When Hughes makes the bold move of constructing the Spruce Goose - the largest airplane ever built (and able to land on water no less) - Senator Ralph Owen Brewster (Alan Alda) accuses the billionaire of war-profiteering. Hughes takes on the Senator full-force and with all the zest that marked his previous ventures. Vowing that the Spruce Goose will fly, in the face of highly publicized claims that it will not, Hughes proves his critics wrong, and the Spruce Goose rises to the occasion… Despite its loss to Million Dollar Baby at the Oscars, The Aviator can take pride in being nominated as one of the best films of the year (along with Finding Neverland, Ray, and Sideways). And the film is certainly deserving of that high honor. Few films better illustrate the beauty of America, or more importantly, the mountains that can be moved when a single individual lives his life with ambition, drive, inspiration, and a naked enthusiasm for all that life has to offer. Overall, The Aviator is among the best films of the past several years, and movie aficionados would be well-advised to watch every last minute with same enthusiasm of a young Howard Hughes…

The chronicles of narnia the lion the witch and the wardrobe dvd review

Nominated for three Academy Awards, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe follows on the heels of recent successful big screen adaptations of other childrens’ fantasy novels such as The Lord of the Rings books and the Harry Potter series. But while each of these series feature underlying tones of Christian symbolism, The Chronicles of Narnia is overtly intended as a Christian allegory. Written by the brilliant 20th Century Oxford and Cambridge literature professor C. S. Lewis, the Narnia stories were a tribute to his deep Christian faith. And this big screen transition is something of which he can be proud. Directed by Andrew Adamson, veteran director of the Shrek franchise, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is a master blend of traditional human acting and computer generated imagery. The film follows the exploits of the four Pevensie children, two brothers and two sisters. Set during the early years of World War II, their mother sends them away to the countryside in order to escape the relentless Nazi bombing raids on London. Left to their own devices in the cavernous mansion of Professor Kirke (Jim Broadbent), they engage in a traditional game of hide-and-seek, whereupon the youngest of children, Lucy (Georgie Henley) crawls into a lone wardrobe stationed in an otherwise empty room. Backing her way through the garments, she stumbles into a wintry wonderland where she encounters a faun named Mr. Tumnus (James McAvoy). Initially, Mr. Tumnus tries to kidnap the young girl, but he experiences a change of heart due to the kindness of her spirit. As a result, he reveals to her the truth about the land into which she stumbled. Narnia is dominated by the evil White Witch who claims to be ruler of the forest, but the true ruler is a lion named Aslan who prophesied long ago that two “sons of Adam” and “daughters of Eve” would usher in the end of the one hundred year darkness administered by the White Witch. Knowing the prophecy, the witch intends to murder the children upon their arrival. But when Lucy relays the facts of the adventure to her family, they don’t believe her. Despite their initial reservations, her older siblings – Edmund (Skandar Keynes), Susan (Anna Popplewell), and Peter (William Moseley) – all find their way into the magical land of Narnia. With talking trees, a forest filled with danger, and an evil witch in hot pursuit, the Pevensie kids must navigate their way through the treacherous land in order to find Aslan (Liam Neeson), the Messianic lion king who can help them to fulfill their rightful destiny as heirs to the thrones of Narnia… Aided by an outstanding soundtrack which perfectly compliments each sequence of events, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is an inspiring film of epic proportions. For Christians, it will have significant meaning far in excess of a traditional film. For instance, the climatic scene of the film in which Aslan provides the ultimate sacrifice will evoke images of Roman soldiers beating and mocking Jesus in the hours leading up to his crucifixion. It’s undeniably the most powerful scene of the film. Meanwhile, Georgie Henley turns in an unforgettable performance as the innocent and playful Lucy. Her charisma exudes from the screen in a manner rarely common to child actors. This performance is complimented by Tilda Swinton who is magnificently cast in the role of the White Witch. She simultaneously displays the satanic traits of seductive beauty and ruthless cunning with heavenly perfection. Add a final battle sequence reminiscent of Braveheart, and you’ve got a blockbuster movie the whole family can enjoy. Although parents of small children who scare easily should take note that some of the scenes can be frightening, but probably no more frightening than Darth Vader and the aliens from Star Wars. Nevertheless, parents should preview the film before introducing it to young children. Overall, this first film in The Chronicles of Narnia series is well worth any movie-goer’s attention…

    The cosby show dvd review

Nominated for 29 Emmys, and winner of six including Outstanding Comedy Series, The Cosby Show dominated prime-time TV from the mid - to late-eighties. The brainchild of popular comedian Bill Cosby, the series followed the life and times of a normal upper-middle class African-American family. One of the most successful sitcoms in network television history, The Cosby Show earned the #1 Nielsen rating for five consecutive years (1985-1990), and in its eight seasons it never dropped out of the Top 20. Coupled with the hit comedy series Cheers, the two shows made Thursday nights a weekly ratings sweep for NBC… The Cosby Show is set in a New York brownstone where Heathcliff "Cliff" Huxtable (Bill Cosby) and his wife Clair (Phylicia Rashad) live with their five children - Sondra (Sabrina Le Beauf), Denise (Lisa Bonet), Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), Vanessa (Tempestt Bledsoe), and Rudy (Keshia Knight Pulliam). Cliff is a popular obstetrician/gynecologist who runs his practice out of the home's basement (which has its own street entrance), while Clair is a successful attorney with a local law firm. In the first season, Sondra is not seen because she's attending Princeton, but she and her boyfriend (and later husband) Elvin (Geoffrey Owens) become major characters in subsequent seasons. Most of the comic relief derives from Cliff and Clair's struggles with their children and the often stupid things they do, but in general, the family gets along very well. If The Simpsons are the quintessential dysfunctional TV family, then The Cosby Show is illustrative of the ideal real-life family. Bad language is non-existent in the series, and it showcases a plethora of African-American role models such as Stevie Wonder, Lena Horne, and Sammy Davis Jr. One of the best written sitcoms since I Love Lucy, The Cosby Show holds its own in the hallowed halls of the TV elite… The Cosby Show DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere in which Theo returns from school sporting a report card with 4 D's. Believing he doesn't need to go to college, Theo is given a memorable lesson (using Monopoly money) by Cliff - prompting him to vow to do his best from now on. This episode is especially interesting given the various aspects of the family and home that are different from the rest of the series. Since this was the pilot, the characters and their lives had yet to be firmly established… Other notable episodes from Season 1 include "Mr. Fish" in which the family participates in a formal toilet funeral for Rudy's dead goldfish, and "Father's Day" in which Cliff rebels against the oddball Father's Day presents he's received over the years, such as a giant polka-dot tie with twinkling lights… Below is a list of episodes included on The Cosby Show (Season 1) DVD: Episode 1 (The Pilot) Air Date: 09-20-1984 Episode 2 (Mr. Fish) Air Date: 09-27-1984 Episode 3 (Bad Dreams) Air Date: 10-04-1984 Episode 4 (Is That My Boy?) The da vinci code dvd review

The Da Vinci Code as a novel is an international bestselling phenomenon, but The Da Vinci Code as a movie is bound to be long forgotten by year’s end. Directed by Ron Howard, the Hollywood veteran behind such memorable films as A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man, this adaptation of Dan Brown’s religious thriller is 149 minutes of monotonous exposition and tedious European spy thriller clichйs. What makes Dan Brown’s novels so popular is the narrative background on such subjects as cryptography, secret societies, religious orders, and alternative history. But it’s difficult to translate such ideas to the big screen, and it’s here that The Da Vinci Code fails as a commercial thriller. Entire scenes are composed of lectures on the history of Christianity and the life of Leonardo Da Vinci. Michael Crichton has a similar style of writing that focuses on scientific breakthroughs and cutting-edge technology, but his novels adapt better to the big screen. Whereas Jurassic Park briefly lectured audiences on the inner-workings of DNA, then quickly jumped to two hours of dinosaurs terrorizing people, The Da Vinci Code keeps explaining, hypothesizing, and lecturing only to leave its audience hanging. The ideas are intriguing, but they make for a far better novel than silver screen blockbuster. Minus the interesting conjecture, the film is nothing more than a poorly written 1970s drugstore spy thriller… Tom Hanks plays the lead role of Robert Langdon, a Harvard professor of religious symbology lecturing in Paris. When Jacques Sauniere (Jean-Pierre Marielle), curator of the Louvre, is found murdered and strangely positioned in his famous museum, local authorities initially consult Langdon for his expertise. But the professor soon learns from Sauniere’s granddaughter, government cryptologist Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou), that he and the prime suspect are one and the same. Creating a diversion for the police, the two discover a hidden trail of clues created by Sauniere in the moments before his death, clues that just might lead them to most elusive treasure in human history – the Holy Grail. With InterPol hot on their trail, and the true murderer still at large, Langdon and Neveu enlist the help of Grail historian Leigh Teabing (Ian McKellen) to teach them the history of the Grail’s protectors, The Priory of Scion, and to help them uncover the endless clues that promise to unravel a 2,000 year mystery… Despite the remarks of most critics, Tom Hanks’ performance is not atrocious. Although his character is bland at best, he wasn’t given much with which to work. Robert Langdon’s lack of development is more attributable to poorly written dialogue and poor choices in direction. Ron Howard tries to cover up some of the excessive dialogue with visual images, but narrative is still narrative even with flashback sequences. Audrey Tautou delivers her lines well, but suffers from the same constraints as her Academy Award-winning screen partner. The only shining performance is provided by Ian McKellen as the eccentric and charming Grail expert, Leigh Teabing. Some of his one-liners add a bit of comic relief, but they’re only band-aids on the gushing head wound that is this film. In the end, The Da Vinci Code is a lesson on the distinction between two differing mediums. Movies haven’t replaced books, or vice-versa, for a reason. Sometimes, it’s just better to read the book. In the case of The Da Vinci Code, this is one of those moments...

The dick van dyke show dvd review

In the Fall of 1961, CBS first aired The Dick Van Dyke Show, one of funniest sitcoms in television history. Similar to I Love Lucy, but featuring more docile and less eccentric characters, the show became a mainstay in the top 10 Nielsen ratings for its first four seasons. When the show's ratings slipped in the fifth season, the network cancelled the show. But in the four decades since, The Dick Van Dyke Show has continued to entertain its fans and their children (and their children's children) via syndicated re-runs… The Dick Van Dyke Show is centered around the life of Rob Petrie (Dick Van Dyke), a family man living in suburban New York. As the head writer for the fictional "Alan Brady Show," he works with co-writers Buddy Sorrell (Morey Amsterdam) and Sally Rogers (Rose Marie). Rob's work life is always interesting given Buddy's constant wisecracks, Sally's never-ending search for a husband, and the trio's unified harassment of Alan Brady's brother-in-law, Mel Cooley (Richard Deacon). At home, Rob's loving yet overly-nervous wife Laura (Mary Tyler Moore) stays at home with the couple's son Ritchie (Larry Mathews). Surrounded by all these unique characters, Rob is always embroiled in someone's scheme, fantasy, or shenanigan… The Dick Van Dyke Show DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere "The Sick Boy and the Sitter" in which Rob convinces Laura to go to a party at Alan Brady's house, despite the fact that their five-year-old son Ritchie is sick. The two get a babysitter, but Laura's maternal instincts don't disappear… Other notable episodes from Season 1 include "Jealousy" in which Laura grows jealous of Rob's work relationship with a beautiful TV star, and "Where Did I Come From?" in which Ritchie asks Laura and Rob about his origins, and they struggle to come up with the right answer… Below is a list of episodes included on The Dick Van Dyke Show (Season 1) DVD: Episode 1 (The Sick Boy and the Sitter) Air Date: 10-03-1961 Episode 2 (The Blonde-Haired Brunette) Air Date: 10-10-1961 Episode 3 (Sally and the Lab Technician) Air Date: 10-17-1961 Episode 4 (Washington vs. the Bunny) Air Date: 10-24-1961 Episode 5 (Oh We Met the Night That We Danced) Air Date: 10-31-1961 Episode 6 (Harrison B. The dukes of hazzard dvd review

In the late 70's and early 80's, television viewers fell in love with The Dukes of Hazzard, a weekly foray into the fictional setting of Hazzard County, Georgia. Cousins Bo and Luke Duke (John Schneider and Tom Wopat) spent each episode trying to do good, while the loveable “Boss” Hogg (Sorrell Booke) concocted various schemes for making money and having the Duke boys, who always foiled his plans, thrown in jail for violating their probation (the result of a deal with the federal government to end the centuries-old Duke family tradition of bootlegging). Joining Bo and Luke are their Uncle Jesse (Denver Pyle), a grandfatherly figure who owns the family farm, and Cousin Daisy (Catherine Bach), whose skimpy shorts coined the cultural term “daisy dukes”. Along with “Crazy” Cooter (Ben Jones), the local mechanic, they create a formidable threat to the money-making shenanigans of Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane (James Best) and the owner of seemingly every business entity in Hazzard County, J. D. “Boss” Hogg. But critics will argue that the true star of the show was the General Lee, Bo and Luke’s bright orange Dodge race car with the Confederate flag pasted on its roof… The Dukes of Hazzard DVD offers a number of famous episodes, including the series premiere “One-Armed Bandits,” source of the video clips that would appear in the opening sequence of the show for much of its duration. Other notable episodes include “High Octane” in which Jesse Duke outsmarts Boss and Roscoe in his quest to win the government’s alternative fuel contest, and “Route 7-11” in which Bo and Luke unwittingly become part of an illegal gambling ring until Jesse comes to save the day. Also included on the first season Dukes of Hazzard DVD are The 20th Anniversary Hazzard County Barbecue documentary including John Schneider and Catherine Bach, Dukes Driving 101: A High-Octane Salute including interviews with professional racecar drivers, and The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee video game preview… Below is a list of episodes included on The Dukes Of Hazzard (Season 1) DVD: Episode 1 (One-Armed Bandits) Air Date: 01-26-1979 Episode 2 (Daisy’s Song) Air Date: 02-02-1979 Episode 3 (Mary Kaye’s Baby) Air Date: 02-09-1979 Episode 4 (Repo Men) Air Date: 02-16-1979 Episode 5 (High-Octane) Air Date: 02-23-1979 Episode 6 (Swamp Molly) Air Date: 03-09-1979 Episode 7 (Luke’s Love Story) Air Date: 03-16-1979 Episode 8 (The Big Heist) Air Date: 03-30-1979 Episode 9 (Limo One Is Missing) Air Date: 04-06-1979 Episode 10 (Deputy Dukes) Air Date: 04-13-1979 Episode 11 (Money To Burn) Air Date: 04-20-1979 Episode 12 (Route 7-11) Air Date: 05-04-1979 Episode 13 (Double Sting) Air Date: 05-11-1979

The dukes of hazzard season 2 dvd review

One of the highest rated prime time television shows of the late 70s and early 80s was The Dukes Of Hazzard. The family friendly action series took a comic book approach to telling its tale of a family of farmers with a fast race car named the Dukes. The Dukes – comprised of Uncle Jesse, Cousin Bo, Cousin Luke, and Cousin Daisy – are reformed bootleggers who constantly butt heads with local sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane and county commissioner J. D. Hogg. The dukes of hazzard season 4 dvd review

For much of the early 1980s, the CBS prime time line-up was dominated by two shows: Dallas and The Dukes Of Hazzard. Following the adventures of the fictional Duke family of Hazzard County, Georgia, the series chronicled their endless struggles with local law enforcement officer Rosco P. Coltrane and his domineering supervisor, J. D. "Boss" Hogg. Cousins Bo, Luke, and Daisy lived on the family farm with their Uncle Jesse, and friendly mechanic "Cooter" often aided them in foiling Boss's plans, but the true star of the series was an orange race car known as the General Lee... The Dukes Of Hazzard (Season 4) DVD features a number of exciting episodes including the season premiere “Mrs. Daisy Hogg” in which Jamie Lee Hogg, Boss’s polite and “un-Hogg-like” nephew moves to Hazzard County to open an old mill. Daisy and Jamie Lee fall in love and announce their engagement, much to the chagrin of the Duke and Hogg families. But Daisy doesn’t know that Jamie Lee is running a counterfeiting ring out of the mill… Other notable episodes include “Sadie Hogg Day” in which Boss, about to get a visit from the state auditor, rigs a drawing so that Daisy becomes County Treasurer for the day – making her legally responsible for the county funds, and “Dear Diary” in which Roscoe’s diary, detailing his various crimes with Boss, is left at the Duke farm by mistake. When Jesse tries to return the diary, two crooks steal it and use it to blackmail Boss and Roscoe… Below is a list of episodes included on The Dukes Of Hazzard (Season 4) DVD: Episode 60 (Mrs. Daisy Hogg) Air Date: 10-09-1981 Episode 61 (Double Dukes) Air Date: 10-16-1981 Episode 62 (Diamonds in the Rough) Air Date: 10-23-1981 Episode 63 (Coltrane vs. Duke) Air Date: 10-30-1981 Episode 64 (The Fugitive) Air Date: 11-03-1981 Episode 65 (The Great Bank Robbery) Air Date: 11-06-1981 Episode 66 (Sadie Hogg Day) Air Date: 11-13-1981 Episode 67 (10 Million Dollar Sheriff: Part 1) Air Date: 11-20-1981 Episode 68 (10 Million Dollar Sheriff: Part 2) Air Date: 11-20-1981 Episode 69 (Trouble at Cooter’s) Air Date: 11-27-1981 Episode 70 (Goodbye, General Lee) Air Date: 12-04-1981 Episode 71 (Cletus Falls in Love) Air Date: 12-11-1981 Episode 72 (Hughie Hogg Strikes Again) Air Date: 12-18-1981 Episode 73 (Dukescam Scam) Air Date: 01-01-1982 Episode 74 (The Sound of Music – Hazzard Style) Air Date: 01-08-1982 Episode 75 (Shine on Hazzard Moon) Air Date: 01-15-1982 Episode 76 (Pin the Tail on the Dukes) Air Date: 01-22-1982 Episode 77 (Miz Tisdale on the Lam) Air Date: 01-29-1982 Episode 78 (Nothin’ But the Truth) Air Date: 02-05-1982 Episode 79 (Dear Diary) Air Date: 02-12-1982 Episode 80 (New Deputy in Town) Air Date: 02-19-1982 Episode 81 (Birds Gotta Fly) Air Date: 02-26-1982 Episode 82 (Bad Day in Hazzard) Air Date: 03-05-1982 Episode 83 (Miss Tri-Counties) Air Date: 03-12-1982 Episode 84 (Share and Share Alike) Air Date: 03-19-1982 Episode 85 (The Law and Jesse Duke) Air Date: 03-26-1982 Episode 86 (Dukes in Danger) Air Date: 04-02-1982
