The passion of the christ dvd review

The most controversial film of 2004, Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ was widely derided by critics and detractors as a two-hour anti-Semitic pornography/horror flick, complete with splattering blood and arduous torture. But among the Christian community (of which I consider myself a part) and open-minded people who actually saw the film, The Passion stands alone as the most eloquent expression of God's love for mankind ever to grace the big screen. The Passion certainly is violent, but not anymore violent than similarly rated films of the past ten years. But despite contentions by some evangelical Christians that everyone should see this film, I don't think young children should see it. This movie is for mature audiences only, and I think anyone under the age of sixteen should have a full understanding of the previous events underlying the main focus of the film before viewing it. The entire movie was filmed in the original Aramaic with English subtitles. This enhances, rather than detracts from, the film's enjoyment because it creates an emotional aura of mystery and sacredness to the subject. Since most people are at least vaguely familiar with the storyline, you won't find yourself distracted by reading subtitles as one might think. With just the opposite effect, you find yourself paying greater attention to the visual images displayed on the screen, and the power of the events unfolding before you is amplified several times over. The Passion of the Christ combines the four written accounts found in the New Testament Gospels to create a vivid and powerful portrayal of the arrest and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The film opens in the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus of Nazareth (James Caviezel) is engaged in prayer, asking his Father to deliver him through the events soon to come. A satanic figure lurks in the shadows, dispensing a series of temptations and doubts. "No one man can bear the sin of the world. It's impossible. It's too much," the figure says. When Jesus refuses to give into Satan's temptations, his disciple Judas arrives to betray him to the Temple Guard. The Temple Guard leads Jesus away in chains to face the high priest. While Peter and John weave their way through the crowd of onlookers, Jesus is questioned by an assembly of leading priests and teachers of religious law. When Jesus responds to their questioning by affirming that he is indeed the Son of God, the leaders hit him, spit on him, and mock him. They then take him before Pilate, hoping to have him killed. Finding no fault with Jesus, Pilate nevertheless has Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip. This sequence is one of the most brutal in the film. James Caviezel is reported to have actually been hit by accident during the filming of this scene. The brutality and utter lack of empathy on behalf of the Roman soldiers is brilliantly illustrated. In my estimation, if you can make it through this scene, then the crucifixion scene should not be a problem. Furthermore, Gibson's cinematic genius is apparent by his measured and precise use of flashbacks which draws the audience away from the violence in brief intervals so as not to cause an emotional overload. Flashbacks include Jesus teaching to a crowd about his power to "lay down my life, and take it back up again," Jesus washing the feet his disciples at the last supper, and Jesus as a playful personality interacting with Mary. One particularly powerful scene traces back to Jesus as a toddler. When he falls down and injures himself, a panicked Mary runs to his rescue. This flashback correlates with the film's portrayal of Jesus stumbling under the weight of the cross. Overall, this ranks as one of the greatest films ever made. If you believe Jesus of Nazareth was the Biblical Messiah (which this film reviewer does), then The Passion illustrates the enormity of God's sacrifice. But even if you think Jesus was just a common man, this film serves a valuable purpose in that it underscores the barbarity of a human race that, more often than not, persecutes the innocent. Mel Gibson's greatest production to date is a film every student of history, philosophy, and human nature owe it to themselves to see…

The phantom of the opera dvd review

Nominated for 3 Academy Awards and 3 Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, The Phantom Of The Opera is one of the most talked about movies of 2004. Taking the smash commercial success of Andrew Lloyd Webber's stage production to the big screen is no easy task, but long-time Hollywood director Joel Schumacher is more than able to get the job done. He takes an otherwise poorly written screenplay (minus the awe of a live performance no less) and manages to thrill the audience with the visual aspects of a film chiefly intended to rehash a successful stage musical. The costumes and set are simply magnificent, and Art Director John Fenner (Raiders Of The Lost Ark) helps Schumacher put together a fabulous production that's well worth a movie-goer's time… The Phantom Of The Opera centers around a mysterious character who dwells underneath the Paris Opera House, imbibing himself on the music that emanates from above. Known as The Phantom (Gerard Butler), he wears a half-mask to cover the hideous facial scars that have plagued him since birth. A musical genius, the phantom is infatuated with the opera, and when he falls in love with the voice of a young chorus girl named Christine (Emmy Rossum - The Day After Tomorrow (2004), Mystic River (2003)), this love of the opera morphs into an outright obsession. The phantom provides Christine with one-on-one voice lessons, while during his spare time, he terrorizes the opera house in an effort to land his protйgй the opera's leading role. When Christine finally rises to that position, however, she is reunited with childhood friend Raul (Patrick Wilson), and the two begin a torrid love affair. Vengeful and jealous, the phantom kidnaps Christine and holds her prisoner in his underground lair, and Raul is the only one who can save her… Onscreen, The Phantom Of The Opera is weak by the standards of a traditional film. The cast does its best to make the most of a screenplay peppered with rigid dialogue - a script designed to sell "the music of the night". The supposed magnetism between Christine and Raul is non-existent and not really believable. As such, the audience is forced into believing that the phantom (who, by contrast, is quite charismatic in this rendition) would end up playing second fiddle to a man who makes Al Gore seem animated. Overall, however, other aspects of the film make up for this flaw… Based on Gaston Leroux's 1925 novel of the same name, The Phantom Of The Opera loses much of its original edge given the phantom's transformation from a frightening and mangled lunatic to a watered down half-scarred/half-babe-magnet figure complete with likeable characteristics. But inevitably, that's the mark of an enduring franchise - its malleability in the realm of numerous genres and the public's willingness to embrace such changes. But arguably, the small changes in the original novel's plot were necessary to achieve Lloyd Webber's goal of a melodramatic and stirring Broadway musical boasting mass commercial appeal. In a year in which the Oscar nominations were mostly dominated by lower-budget, surprise hit films (such as Sideways, Million Dollar Baby, and Finding Neverland), The Phantom Of The Opera holds its own in many aspects (given its pre-production designation as a commercial success). But those who have not seen the stage version are unlikely to be won over to the ranks of the franchise's numerous fanatics. My advice is to definitely see the film if you've ever seen the stage performance or listened regularly to the soundtrack - otherwise, you might be disappointed. After all, no matter how good The Phantom Of The Opera translates to the big screen, there's a reason musicals are not the dominate genre in Hollywood…

    The princess bride dvd review

Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music, The Princess Bride should've been awarded the designation of best comedy of the year. Having built a large cult following since its 1987 release, The Princess Bride continues to entertain whole new generations of fans. Its enduring tale and timeless humor are certain to cement its place among the hallowed halls of the movie classic elites. The Princess Bride is one of the few movies that every person absolutely should see - if you miss it, then you'll miss out on an entire world of fun… When a kindly old grandfather (Peter Falk) reads a story to his grandson (Fred Savage), his grandson is in for the story of a lifetime… The Princess Bride follows the story of the beautiful maiden, Buttercup (Robin Wright), who falls in love with a poor stable boy named Westley (Cary Elwes). But the two are torn apart when Westley is captured by a band of pirates, and Buttercup is kidnapped by the evil Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon) who intends to make her his wife. But when the Dread Pirate Roberts (who just might be Westley) arrives on the scene, he's intent on rescuing Buttercup from the clutches of the evil prince. To do so, he must overcome a series of obstacles, and he must take on the skills and strength of a master swordsman, Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), and a massive giant, Fezzik (Andre the Giant). When the two men find out that the Dread Pirate Roberts is more than a match for their combined skills, they join him in his noble effort to rescue the princess bride, Buttercup. But Prince Humperdinck and his evil henchman (including a six-fingered man who may have killed Inigo Montoya's father) stand in their way… The Princess Bride plays host to a number of hilarious scenes, but among the best is a sword fight which takes place between Westley and Inigo Montoya atop a large cliff. The two men trash talk to each other in rested voices while a well-choreographed fencing match takes place. It simply needs to be seen in order to enjoy the level of hilarity. In addition, the late Andre the Giant shows off his abilities as a likeable and loveable big guy with a big heart. All the various characters and their conflicts are drawn together with an original score featuring organ music that highlights the climax of each struggle. It fits nicely with the overall fantasy theme and makes The Princess Bride a better film from every perspective… Non-stop fun and laughter from beginning to end, The Princess Bride is one of the most memorable movies you'll ever see. It's easy to become involved in the plight of the lead characters, and the exotic Middle-Age fairy tale locale makes for an always interesting setting. The Princess Bride is the perfect family movie for parents to enjoy along with their children. It's one of those rare films that's more than able to walk the thin line between adult and child humor. Because of its brilliant screenplay and unrivaled comic value, The Princess Bride is a definite must-see film…

The shawshank redemption a stephen king movie

The Shawshank Redemption is consistently voted as one of the best movies of all time. Originally a story in a Stephen King book, the Different Seasons, known as Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, the story was adapted and the movie created. The movie was directed and the screenplay written by Frank Darabont. The movie was his first major production. Interestingly Stephen King has written two stories about prisons, The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, which happen to be the first two movies that Frank Darabont directed. The story is a cruel one, in which Andy Dufresne, an educated and kind man is wrongly convicted of his wife’s murder. During his time in prison he befriends several people, who are criminals, whereas Andy is not. His life is changed forever, as he deals with the troubles of incarceration. Stephen King’s excellent character portrayal is not limited to his horror stories, and the characters in this story are some of his best. One could even believe this was based on a true story, but it is not, King has confirmed. The story is upsetting, puzzling and warming, and the movies popularity confirms people association with the story. I think it will always be a classic. When released at the theatre The Shawshank Redemption did not achieve great success, despite the great buzz already generated by the Hollywood industry due to the great story. This was in part due to great competition at the time, and also the fact that the story is about a prison, which put many movie goers off. However, after the release to DVD the Shawshank Redemption sold in huge quantities making it a firm favorite. The other stories from the Different Seasons book are The Body – which became the movie, Stand by me The Apt Pupil – which also became a movie called The Apt Pupil The Club – which has yet to make it to the big screen I would recommend the book to anyone who is a fan, as it is a great collection of stories. The Shawshank Redemption is a very popular story, whether read in a book or watched as a film. shawshankredemption. net/

    The shawshank redemption dvd review

Nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, The Shawshank Redemption amazingly failed to win a single Oscar. It’s amazing because it’s probably one of the top ten best films ever produced. Based on Stephen King’s short story ‘Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption,’ the film transcends the typical intellectually and spiritually bankrupt Hollywood entertainment of the modern era with an onscreen artistry that is the closest we’ll probably ever see to poetry in moving pictures. With masterful performances by Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, audience members will find themselves engrossed in a tragic story wrought with suspense at every turn… The Shawshank Redemption focuses on the life of Andy Dufresne (Robbins), a prominent banker convicted of murdering his wife and her lover. Sent to Shawshank prison in the summer of 1947, the inmates bet on which of the new arrivals will be the first to crack. Ellis “Red” Redding (Freeman), an institutional fixture and the man who can provide anything for a price, puts his money on Andy. But much to his surprise, Andy doesn’t make a sound… Over time, Andy and Red develop a close friendship, and Red procures a small rock hammer for Andy. As the years go by, he procures other items as well, the most interesting being Rita Hayworth. Red acquires a poster of the screen siren for Andy, and business continues as usual in Shawshank. Along the way, Andy ingratiates himself with the notorious prison guard Byron Hadley (Clancy Brown) and Warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton). Putting his outside skills to good use, Andy provides tax advice and tax preparation services to guards not just at Shawshank, but other prisons as well. Eventually, in exchange for a comprehensive prison library, he ends up running a massive money laundering operation for Norton leveraging prison labor in exchange for lucrative kickbacks. But all goes awry when Shawshank’s newest prisoner, a young punk named Tommy (Gil Bellows) comes forward with shocking information. Andy, who’s spent twenty years in Shawshank prison, might be innocent after all… The revelation ruins lives and destroys Andy’s prison sanctuary, but it’s Warden Norton and his associates who are ruined when the beautiful pin-up Raquel Welch reveals her hidden secret… Directed by Frank Darabont, producer of such hit films as The Green Mile (1999) and The Majestic (2001), The Shawshank Redemption is a film of absolute breathtaking perfection that ranks near the top of most lists of the best films ever produced. Thomas Newman’s musical score, reused in countless films in the years since its release, blends together with brilliant casting, memorable screen performance, and masterful set design to create an unmatched and timeless epic. If you haven’t seen The Shawshank Redemption, you aren’t just missing out on a great film, but a great life experience as well. Do yourself a favor and see this movie…

    The shield dvd review

Nominated for 4 Emmys and 4 Golden Globes, including Best Television Series - Drama, The Shield is one of the top police dramas of the past decade. The brainchild of creator Shawn Ryan, writer for such hit shows as Nash Bridges (1996) and Angel (1999), The Shield made history in 2003 by becoming the first basic cable series to win a Golden Globe for Best Drama Series (in the past, only non-ad supported shows such as The Sopranos and Sex And The City have done so well). The hour-long drama boasts a strong, well-rounded cast who, along with the writers/producers, have managed to make The Shield the longest running series on the FX Network… The Shield centers around an inner-city Los Angeles police precinct where the lines between right and wrong are often blurred. An ongoing power struggle between a group of corrupt, yet effective, cops and their new boss, Capt. David Aceveda (Benito Martinez), remains the focal point of the show. Det. Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis, of The Commish) heads up an elite unit known as the Strike Team. An effective leader who bends the rules when they fit his aims, Mackey often butts heads with the by-the-book Aceveda who weighs his own political ambitions against the cost of bringing down Mackey and his associates. Veteran Det. Claudette Wyms (CCH Pounder, of ER) knows the ropes, admires Mackey, but also knows how to play sides of the game. For the 2005 season, Glenn Close - star of such films as The Natural (1984), Fatal Attraction (1987), and Air Force One (1997) - joined the cast as Capt. Monica Rawling. Together, this celebrated cast maintains an internal tension among themselves while carrying out a unified fight against the criminal element - a fight that keeps the streets of L. A. safe… The Shield DVD features a number of exciting episodes including the season premiere in which the Strike Team has tightened its stranglehold over the precinct. Capt. Aceveda tries to crack down on the corruption in his force by recruiting an insider (Det. Terry Crowley) to help take down Vic Mackey, but the operation only results in the Crowley's death. In the interim, Det. Wyms and her partner Det. "Dutch" Wagenbach (Jay Karnes) investigate the murder of a woman only to discover that her missing daughter was sold off to a child molester by her drug addict father… Other notable episodes from Season 1 include "Dawg Days" in which Mackey attempts to establish a cease-fire between two rival gangs whose ongoing feud threatens the peace, and "Dragonchasers" in which Mackey tries to help a crack addict quit so she can maintain custody of her son while Dutch tracks down a serial killer… Below is a list of episodes included on The Shield (Season 1) DVD: Episode 1 (Pilot) Air Date: 03-12-2002 Episode 2 (Our Gang) Air Date: 03-19-2002 Episode 3 (The Spread) Air Date: 03-26-2002 Episode 4 (Dawg Days) Air Date: 04-02-2002 Episode 5 (Blowback) Air Date: 04-09-2002 Episode 6 (Cherrypoppers) Air Date: 04-16-2002 Episode 7 (Pay in Pain) Air Date: 04-23-2002 Episode 8 (Cupid & Psycho) Air Date: 04-30-2002 Episode 9 (Throwaway) Air Date: 05-07-2002 Episode 10 (Dragon Chasers) Air Date: 05-14-2002 Episode 11 (Carnivores) Air Date: 05-21-2002 Episode 12 (Two Days of Blood) Air Date: 05-28-2003 Episode 13 (Circles) Air Date: 06-04-2003

    The simpsons dvd review

Starting with the very first episode (airing December 17, 1989), The Simpsons (Season 1) DVD is packed with some of the best episodes in the show's history. All of these early episodes exhibit a bit of amateurish (by later Simpson standards) animation, seeing as how the popularity of the show had yet to land it the massive budgets of subsequent years. However, this does not take away from the show’s acerbic wit which is present and in full swing throughout all thirteen of the original episodes. A few details do stand out. Homer’s voice is slightly different, and he isn’t as stupid as his character is later portrayed to be. But all the other Simpson family members are firmly established from the get-go. These initial episodes witness the appearance of such beloved supporting characters as Krusty the Clown, Ned Flanders, Itchy & Scratchy (although they’re just cartoons!), Monty Burns & sidekick Wayland Smithers, Patty & Selma, Martin Prince, Grandpa Simpson, Reverend Lovejoy, and a host of other highly regarded inhabitants of Springfield who have climbed their way into the hearts of America since the show’s debut. As the longest running animated show in history, and the longest running prime-time show of any type, The Simpsons is an American treasure – a combination of humor, wit, and satire that examines not just the lives of its eccentric characters, but also the society, culture, and world in which we live. Fun for adults and children alike, The Simpsons is a cutting edge television comedy that, like Seinfeld, altered the television landscape in the 1990’s by dictating a new genre of TV fun that spawned network investment in new animated series such as King of the Hill, Futurama, and The Family Guy. Like all new things which smash the paradigm of life, The Simpsons is unrivaled by its knockoffs, and the show doesn’t show signs of slowing down. If you haven’t yet visited Springfield, then I definitely recommend you pick up The Simpsons (Season 1) DVD to catch a glimpse for yourself. You have no idea what you’ve been missing… The Simpsons DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including the series premiere “Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire” in which Homer’s attempt to work a second job in order to buy the family a great Christmas ends in utter failure. Desperate, he and Bart drive to a local dog-racing track where they place everything they have on a dog named “Santa’s Little Helper”. The dog is an utter failure, but the Simpson Christmas is salvaged when the family receives a special gift… Other notable episodes include “Bart The Genius” in which Bart switches his I. Q. test with that of Martin Prince, the class brain. As a result, he ends up being placed in an advanced school where he’s overwhelmed by expectations. And “Krusty Gets Busted” in which Bart’s hero, Krusty the Clown, is videotaped robbing the Kwik-E-Mart, prompting everyone but Bart to turn against him… Below is a list of episodes included on The Simpsons (Season 1) DVD: Episode 1 (Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire) Air Date: 12-17-1989 Episode 2 (Bart The Genius) Air Date: 01-14-1990 Episode 3 (Homer’s Odyssey) Air Date: 01-21-1990 Episode 4 (There’s No Disgrace Like Home) Air Date: 01-28-1990 Episode 5 (Bart The General) Air Date: 02-04-1990 Episode 6 (Moaning Lisa) Air Date: 02-11-1990 Episode 7 (Call Of The Simpsons) Air Date: 02-18-1990 Episode 8 (The Telltale Head) Air Date: 02-25-1990 Episode 9 (Life On The Fast Lane) Air Date: 03-18-1990 Episode 10 (Homer’s Night Out) Air Date: 03-25-1990 Episode 11 (The Crepes Of Wrath) Air Date: 04-15-1990 Episode 12 (Krusty Gets Busted) Air Date: 04-29-1990 Episode 13 (Some Enchanted Evening) Air Date: 05-13-1990

The simpsons season 2 dvd review

Before Seinfeld redefined the sitcom, The Simpsons came along and redefined prime time animation. Straying from the usual formula of innocence concocted by The Flintstones and The Jetsons, The Simpsons left no area of society untouched by its raw politically-incorrect satire. With an almost endless array of unforgettable characters, a trip to Springfield is a breath of fresh air, and hilarious as a television comedy can be… The Simpsons (Season 2) DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere in which Bart makes a deal with school nerd Martin Prince. Bart will make Martin cool if Martin agrees to tutor Bart into a top-notch student. When Martin reneges on his end of the deal, Bart must pass on his own merit, and his D - earns the respect of Homer and Mrs. Krabappel. In “Treehouse of Horror” (#16), Bart and Lisa take turns telling horror stories in an episode foreshadowing the Simpson Halloween Specials which followed in years to come. The simpsons season 3 dvd review

In the late-1980s, a one-minute segment on The Tracy Ullman Show (since long forgotten, except in trivia questions) morphed into its own series. That series was The Simpsons, and it became an anchor for the then-burgeoning FOX network. With a wildly original cast of oddball characters, The Simpsons instantly struck a chord with audiences, becoming the longest running prime time show among all genres, not just the animation genre. Loved by audiences from age 2 to 102, the show is not only hilarious, but in all likelihood, one of the best satires of modern day American life. The Simpsons (Season 3) DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere in which Homer’s co-workers have him committed after they mistake him for a mental patient. While in the New Bedlam Home for the Emotionally Interesting, Homer meets a tall, stocky white man who claims to be Michael Jackson. The Simpsons befriend the man who eventually admits to being bricklayer Leon Kompowsky... Other notable episodes include “When Flanders Failed” in which Ned Flanders opens a store at the local mall called the “Leftorium” (catering only to left-handed customers) and “Lisa’s Pony” in which Lisa’s overwhelming desire to have her own Pony nearly drives Homer to an early death as he works 24-hours-a-day to afford the expensive pet… Below is a list of episodes included on The Simpsons (Season 3) DVD: Episode 36 (Stark Raving Dad) Air Date: 09-19-1991 Episode 37 (Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington) Air Date: 09-26-1991 Episode 38 (When Flanders Failed) Air Date: 10-03-1991 Episode 39 (Bart the Murderer) Air Date: 10-10-1991 Episode 40 (Homer Defined) Air Date: 10-17-1991 Episode 41 (Like Father, Like Clown) Air Date: 10-24-1991 Episode 42 (Treehouse of Horror 2) Air Date: 10-31-1991 Episode 43 (Lisa’s Pony) Air Date: 11-07-1991 Episode 44 (Saturdays of Thunder) Air Date: 11-14-1991 Episode 45 (Flaming Moe’s) Air Date: 11-21-1991 Episode 46 (Burns Verkaufen Der Kraftwerk) Air Date: 12-05-1991 Episode 47 (I Married Marge) Air Date: 12-26-1991 Episode 48 (Radio Bart) Air Date: 01-09-1992 Episode 49 (Lisa the Greek) Air Date: 01-23-1992 Episode 50 (Homer Alone) Air Date: 02-06-1992 Episode 51 (Bart the Lover) Air Date: 02-13-1992 Episode 52 (Homer at the Bat) Air Date: 02-20-1992 Episode 53 (Separate Vocations) Air Date: 02-27-1992 Episode 54 (Dog of Death) Air Date: 03-12-1992 Episode 55 (Colonel Homer) Air Date: 03-26-1992 Episode 56 (Black Widower) Air Date: 04-09-1992 Episode 57 (The Otto Show) Air Date: 04-23-1992 Episode 58 (Bart’s Friend Falls in Love) Air Date: 05-07-1992 Episode 59 (Brother Can You Spare Two Dimes?) The simpsons season 4 dvd review

Fun for both adults and children, The Simpsons is one of those rare shows that smashed the conventional wisdom of its time and redefined its genre. By creating a truly adult cartoon, and not one watered-down for a younger audience, The Simpsons kept its finger of the pulse of American TV viewers, providing an unmatched wit with its biting satire. It’s a combination that opened the door for later prime time animated series such as Futurama, King Of The Hill, and The Family Guy. But in the end, none can come close to the originality and hilarity of The Simpsons, one of the best shows from any genre in television history… The Simpsons (Season 4) DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere “Kamp Krusty” in which Bart forges his report card so that Homer and Marge will allow him to go to Kamp Krusty, a traditional summer camp for America’s youth. But the summer camp is anything but traditional, and the kids soon learn as they’re forced to make cheap wallets and perform other acts usually reserved for Third World foreign laborers. The kids endure until it’s revealed that Krusty will not be visiting as promised, the news of which prompts Bart to spark an uprising… Other notable episodes from Season 4 include “Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie” in which Bart’s punishment (that he can not see the new Itchy & Scratchy movie) threatens to drive him to the brink of insanity, and “Duffless” in which Homer’s arrest for a DWI forces him to submit to a campaign of anti-drinking films and AA meetings (made all the worse by Marge’s request that he quit drinking for one month)… Below is a list of episodes included on The Simpsons (Season 4) DVD: Episode 60 (Kamp Krusty) Air Date: 09-24-1992 Episode 61 (A Streetcar Named Marge) Air Date: 10-01-1992 Episode 62 (Homer the Heretic) Air Date: 10-08-1992 Episode 63 (Lisa the Beauty Queen) Air Date: 10-15-1992 Episode 64 (Treehouse of Horror 3) Air Date: 10-29-1992 Episode 65 (Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie) Air Date: 11-03-1992 Episode 66 (Marge Gets a Job) Air Date: 11-05-1992 Episode 67 (New Kid on the Block) Air Date: 11-12-1992 Episode 68 (Mr. Plow) Air Date: 11-19-1992 Episode 69 (Lisa’s First Word) Air Date: 12-03-1992 Episode 70 (Homer’s Triple Bypass) Air Date: 12-17-1992 Episode 71 (Marge vs. The Monorail) Air Date: 01-14-1993 Episode 72 (Selma’s Choice) Air Date: 01-21-1993 Episode 73 (Brother from the Same Planet) Air Date: 02-04-1993 Episode 74 (I Love Lisa) Air Date: 02-11-1993 Episode 75 (Duffless) Air Date: 02-18-1993 Episode 76 (Last Exit to Springfield) Air Date: 03-11-1993 Episode 77 (So it has Come to This: The Simpsons Clip Show) Air Date: 04-01-1993 Episode 78 (The Front) Air Date: 04-15-1993 Episode 79 (Whacking Day) Air Date: 04-29-1993 Episode 80 (Marge in Chains) Air Date: 05-06-1993 Episode 81 (Krusty Gets Kancelled) Air Date: 05-13-1993

The simpsons season 5 dvd review

If you’ve never been to Springfield, then you haven’t experienced one of the most entertaining and witty shows in television history. The Simpsons is unrivaled in its satirical quality and is quite possibly one of the funniest shows in television history. It’s already the longest-running prime time series. Long before Seinfeld redefined the traditional sitcom, The Simpsons transformed the animated genre into a ratings boon once again. Its success opened the door for a number of great series such The Family Guy, Futurama, and King Of The Hill. With an endless number of crazy and eccentric characters, The Simpsons is one of the funniest shows you will ever see… The Simpsons (Season 5) DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere “Homer’s Barbershop Quartet” in which Homer tells Bart and Lisa the story of his early brush with fame as a member of “The Be Sharps” – a barbershop quartet composed of Homer, Principal Skinner, Apu, and Barney (who replaced Chief Wiggum at the request of a music rep). The Be Sharps take the world by storm, performing for President Reagan and Johnny Carson. Eventually, the band is destroyed by Homer’s bad song writing and Barney’s new Asian girlfriend… Other notable episodes from Season 5 include “Rosebud” (a satire of Citizen Kane, but with Mr. Burns in the starring role) and “Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy” in which Lisa protests the stereotypical and sexists remarks made by a talking Malibu Stacy doll (her efforts eventually lead to a new product design which bombs in the marketplace)… Below is a list of episodes included on The Simpsons (Season 5) DVD: Episode 82 (Homer’s Barbershop Quartet) Air Date: 09-30-1993 Episode 83 (Cape Feare) Air Date: 10-07-1993 Episode 84 (Homer Goes to College) Air Date: 10-14-1993 Episode 85 (Rosebud) Air Date: 10-21-1993 Episode 86 (Treehouse of Horror 4) Air Date: 10-28-1993 Episode 87 (Marge on the Lam) Air Date: 11-04-1993 Episode 88 (Bart’s Inner Child) Air Date: 11-11-1993 Episode 89 (Boy Scoutz N’ the Hood) Air Date: 11-18-1993 Episode 90 (The Last Temptation of Homer) Air Date: 12-09-1993 Episode 91 ($pringfield) Air Date: 12-16-1993 Episode 92 (Homer the Vigilante) Air Date: 01-06-1994 Episode 93 (Bart Gets Famous) Air Date: 02-03-1994 Episode 94 (Homer and Apu) Air Date: 02-10-1994 Episode 95 (Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy) Air Date: 02-17-1994 Episode 96 (Deep Space Homer) Air Date: 02-24-1994 Episode 97 (Homer Loves Flanders) Air Date: 03-17-1994 Episode 98 (Bart Gets an Elephant) Air Date: 03-31-1994 Episode 99 (Burns’ Heir) Air Date: 04-14-1994 Episode 100 (Sweet Seymour Skinner’s Baadasssss Song) Air Date: 04-28-1994 Episode 101 (The Boy Who Knew Too Much) Air Date: 05-05-1994 Episode 102 (Lady Bouvier’s Lover) Air Date: 05-12-1994 Episode 103 (Secrets of a Successful Marriage) Air Date: 05-19-1994

The simpsons season 6 dvd review

One of the best television shows of its era, or any era, The Simpsons redefined the genre of prime time animation. The blockbuster series filled with eccentric personalities from the town Springfield helped propel the rising FOX network from second-tier to the elite status enjoyed by CBS, NBC, and ABC. Its success opened the door for numerous animated series that followed a similar path, including The Family Guy (1999) and King Of The Hill (1997). With some of the best writers in the business, The Simpsons has maintained its consistency as one of the funniest shows on television. And that’s quite an accomplishment given the level its excellence it takes to manufacture so many episodes over such a long period of time… The Simpsons (Season 6) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere “Bart of Darkness” in which the Simpson family is enduring the sweltering summer heat without the aid of air conditioning. When Bart and Lisa beg Homer for a pool, he gives in, and all the kids in the neighborhood raid the Simpson’s backyard. While jumping into the pool from his tree house, Bart breaks his leg. Alone in his room, he thinks he sees Ned Flanders commit a murder… Other notable episodes from Season 6 include “Lisa on Ice” in which Lisa’s perfect transcript is threatened by a possible failing grade in gym, and “Lisa’s Wedding” in which Lisa imagines her wedding in the year 2010. At first, her suitor seems perfect, but his reluctance to accept her socially inept family ruins the engagement… Below is a list of episodes included on The Simpsons (Season 6) DVD: Episode 104 (Bart of Darkness) Air Date: 09-04-1994 Episode 105 (Lisa’s Rival) Air Date: 09-11-1994 Episode 106 (Another Simpson Clip Show) Air Date: 09-25-1994 Episode 107 (Itchy & Scratchyland) Air Date: 10-02-1994 Episode 108 (Sideshow Bob Roberts) Air Date: 10-09-1994 Episode 109 (Tree House of Horror V) Air Date: 10-30-1994 Episode 110 (Bart’s Girlfriend) Air Date: 11-06-1994 Episode 111 (Lisa on Ice) Air Date: 11-13-1994 Episode 112 (Homer Badman) Air Date: 11-27-1994 Episode 113 (Grandpa vs. Sexual Inadequacy) Air Date: 12-04-1994 Episode 114 (Fear of Flying) Air Date: 12-18-1994 Episode 115 (Homer the Great) Air Date: 01-08-1995 Episode 116 (And Maggie Makes Three) Air Date: 01-22-1995 Episode 117 (Bart’s Comet) Air Date: 02-05-1995 Episode 118 (Homie the Clown) Air Date: 02-12-1995 Episode 119 (Bart vs. Australia) Air Date: 02-19-1995 Episode 120 (Homer vs. Patty and Selma) Air Date: 02-26-1995 Episode 121 (A Star is Burns) Air Date: 03-05-1995 Episode 122 (Lisa’s Wedding) Air Date: 03-19-1995 Episode 123 (Two Dozen and One Greyhounds) Air Date: 04-09-1995 Episode 124 (The PTA Disbands) Air Date: 04-16-1995 Episode 125 (Round Springfield) Air Date: 04-30-1995 Episode 126 (Springfield Connection) Air Date: 05-07-1995 Episode 127 (Lemon of Troy) Air Date: 05-14-1995 Episode 128 (Who Shot Mr. Burns?: Part 1) Air Date: 05-21-1995

    The sopranos dvd review

Along with Sex And The City, the HBO original series The Sopranos took the world by storm in the late-1990s with its cutting edge drama and acerbic wit. A cross between The Godfather and the traditional nuclear sitcom family, the show provided a unique experience for a niche audience that quickly developed into a barrage of dedicated fans. Nominated for countless Emmy's, and winner of at least four in every one of its seasons except Season 2 (in which it carried home one), The Sopranos has cemented itself as one of the elite shows in television history… Golden Globe performer James Gandolfini plays the title role of Tony Soprano, a middle-aged father of two, loving husband, and successful businessman. But contrary to a typical sitcom, Tony finds himself irritated by his kids Anthony and Meadow (Robert Iler and Jamie Lynn Sigler), he cheats on his wife Carmela (Edie Falco), and the business organization responsible for his success is the mafia (of which he is the local boss). All the confusion in Tony's life leads to massive amounts of stress, prompting him to regularly visit a therapist, Dr. Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco) - one of the few outsiders he trusts. Following a classic prime time soap opera format, quite similar to the hit TV show Dallas, The Sopranos provides audiences with a glimpse into the life and times of a mafia boss, where we find out that being a mob kingpin isn't the glamour life often portrayed in the movies… The Sopranos DVD offers a number of dramatic episodes including the self-titled series premiere in which the groundwork for the show is set when Tony Soprano visits a therapist in hopes of ending his panic attacks (sounds similar to the plot for Analyze This!). In his initial session with the beautiful Dr. Melfi, Tony confides in her the stressful aspects of his extraordinary life - a demanding job, an unhappy wife, and rebellious kids (among other problems)… Other notable episodes from Season 1 include "College" in which Tony takes his daughter on a college orientation trip to Maine where he encounters a former (and current) enemy, and "A Hit is a Hit" in which Tony strikes out when he attempts to make friends outside of his close-knit circle… Below is a list of episodes included on The Sopranos (Season 1) DVD: Episode 1 (The Sopranos) Air Date: 01-10-1999 Episode 2 (46 Long) Air Date: 01-17-1999 Episode 3 (Denial, Anger, Acceptance) Air Date: 01-24-1999 Episode 4 (Meadowlands) Air Date: 01-31-1999 Episode 5 (College) Air Date: 02-07-1999 Episode 6 (Pax Soprana) Air Date: 02-14-1999 Episode 7 (Down Neck) Air Date: 02-21-1999 Episode 8 (The Legend of Tennessee Moltisanti) Air Date: 02-28-1999 Episode 9 (Boca) Air Date: 03-07-1999 Episode 10 (A Hit is a Hit) Air Date: 03-14-1999 Episode 11 (Nobody Knows Anything) Air Date: 03-21-1999 Episode 12 (Isabella) Air Date: 03-28-1999 Episode 13 (I Dream of Jeannie Cusamano) Air Date: 04-04-1999

The sopranos season 2 dvd review

In the late 1990’s a new HBO original series took America by storm. The Sopranos redefined the cable drama series genre with its unique look into the family life of a New Jersey mafia kingpin. Recipient of numerous Emmy nominations in the years since, The Sopranos has built a loyal following among television viewers and critics alike. The Sopranos focuses on the life of Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), a middle-aged father of two and the successful head of an organized crime family. He’s joined by his two kids Anthony and Meadow (Robert Iler and Jamie Lynn Sigler) and his wife Carmela (Edie Falco). Burdened by the stress of his job and family life, Tony often visits psychiatrist Dr. Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco), one of the few people outside the family that he can trust. Following a traditional soap opera template, The Sopranos provides fans with alternative view of the mafia lifestyle, one that’s not all the glory and craziness of The Godfather and Goodfellas, but more like middle-class America… The Sopranos (Season 2) DVD offers a number of dramatic episodes including the season premiere “Guy Walks into a Psychiatrist’s Office” in which Tony firmly establishes himself as the leader of the New Jersey area while Dr. Melfi starts seeing a therapist of her own in order to deal with the guilt she feels for refusing to treat Tony professionally. Meanwhile, Christopher’s criminal enterprises in the “boiler room” bring thug violence into a professional workplace… Other notable episodes from Season 2 include “Commendatori” in which Tony takes a business trip to Italy with Christopher and Paulie, and “Full Leather Jacket” in which Carmela uses the power of her status as Tony’s wife to get a friend to write a letter of recommendation for Meadow… Below is a list of episodes included on the Sopranos (Season 2) DVD: Episode 14 (Guy Walks into a Psychiatrist’s Office) Air Date: 01-16-2000 Episode 15 (Do Not Resuscitate) Air Date: 01-23-2000 Episode 16 (Toodle-F***ing-Oo) Air Date: 01-30-2000 Episode 17 (Commendatori) Air Date: 02-06-2000 Episode 18 (Big Girls Don’t Cry) Air Date: 02-13-2000 Episode 19 (The Happy Wanderer) Air Date: 02-20-2000 Episode 20 (D-Girl) Air Date: 02-27-2000 Episode 21 (Full Leather Jacket) Air Date: 03-05-2000 Episode 22 (From Where to Eternity) Air Date: 03-12-2000 Episode 23 (Bust Out) Air Date: 03-19-2000 Episode 24 (House Arrest) Air Date: 03-26-2000 Episode 25 (Knight in White Satin Armor) Air Date: 04-02-2000 Episode 26 (Funhouse) Air Date: 04-09-2000

The sopranos season 3 dvd review

In the late 90’s, The Sopranos, along with HBO’s other original series with Sex And The City, took the entertainment world by storm with its dry wit and flavorful brand of drama. A hybrid of The Godfather and a normal, run-of-the-mill sitcom family, The Sopranos created a new experience for its audience and quickly developed a legion of loyal dedicated fans. Winner of numerous Emmys, the show follows the lives of the Soprano family headed by Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), a middle-aged family man and mafia boss. Tony is joined by his two children Anthony and Meadow (Robert Iler and Jamie Lynn Sigler), his wife Carmela (Edie Falco), his therapist Dr. Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco), and a band of mafia characters too numerous to mention. Far from the glamour life often portrayed in the movies, The Sopranos is one show you won’t want to miss… The Sopranos (Season 3) DVD offers a number of dramatic episodes including the season premiere “Mr. Ruggerio’s Neighborhood” in which the Soprano family continues their daily routine, completely unaware that the FBI is plotting an intricate scheme to bug their house. Meanwhile, Tony begins some plotting of his own when Patsy begins asking too many questions about his brother’s death… Other notable episodes from Season 3 include “Fortunate Son” in which Tony learns that his panic attacks are partly due to genetics and past events from his childhood, and “He is Risen” in which Tony’s problems with Ralphie bubble to surface when Ralphie doesn’t get the promotion he hoped for… Below is a list of episodes included on the Sopranos (Season 3) DVD: Episode 27 (Mr. Ruggerio’s Neighborhood) Air Date: 03-04-2001 Episode 28 (Proshai, Livushka) Air Date: 03-04-2001 Episode 29 (Fortunate Son) Air Date: 03-11-2001 Episode 30 (Employee of the Month) Air Date: 03-18-2001 Episode 31 (Another Toothpick) Air Date: 03-25-2001 Episode 32 (University) Air Date: 04-01-2001 Episode 33 (Second Opinion) Air Date: 04-08-2001 Episode 34 (He is Risen) Air Date: 04-15-2001 Episode 35 (The Telltale Moozadell) Air Date: 04-22-2001 Episode 36 (To Save Us All from Satan’s Power) Air Date: 04-29-2001 Episode 37 (Pine Barrens) Air Date: 05-06-2001 Episode 38 (Amour Fou) Air Date: 05-13-2001 Episode 39 (Army of One) Air Date: 05-20-2001
