Nutrition improvements for lunchtime. make the grade for mom and kids

Busy parents often face the daily challenge of packing a school lunch that meets their nutrition standards while keeping the taste kids' love. The good news is that there is an answer to this lunchtime dilemma. Lunchables is taking steps to make its products better, so they'll always be a lunchtime option both kids and moms can love. Mom and registered dietitian Bridget Swinney supports the idea that a child's lunch should be nutritious, delicious and fun. "Lunchtime is often a highlight of your child's day so it's important to pack something that they'll look forward to eating and you'll feel good about serving," says Swinney. "I think the Sensible Solution Lunchables products are a perfect example that better for you doesn't have to be boring." The Kraft Sensible Solution Program identifies products that meet "better-for-you" nutrition criteria-just look for the green flag on the front of the box. Swinney has a few simple tips to pack a lunch for your child that will make the grade come lunchtime. • Talk to your child and find out what he likes to take for lunch-and what he likes about his friends' lunches, too. • Plan the week's lunches together, giving your child choices that you can approve. When your child helps pack his own lunch, he'll be more likely to eat it instead of trading! • Make it easier for your child to enjoy a nutritious lunch. Pack fresh fruits and vegetables in easy-to-eat options like grapes, baby carrots, apple slices, orange slices, or half a kiwi with a spoon. • Write a note on your child's napkin to let him know you're thinking about him. It's a small gesture that goes a long way! Parents want the best for their kids, especially when it comes to what they eat, and food manufacturers are helping provide the tools moms need to make more informed decisions. This is where lunchtime products such as those carrying the Sensible Solution flag can help, since all of these options have less than 30 percent of calories from fat, less than 10 percent of calories from saturated fat and many are either a good or excellent source of calcium. These products are more fun to eat than ever, so while kids won't notice the changes, you will. For those parents looking for a convenient, "better-for-you" lunch option, there are now nine items that meet the Sensible Solution criteria, with the three newest being Mini Hot Dogs, Mini Pizza and Maxed Out Extra Cheesy Deep Dish Pizza.

Nutrition needs in the golden years

Many a proverb has been dedicated to how our attitudes and expectations evolve as we pass through life's seasons, but far less has been written about how our nutrition needs change as we enter the golden years. As we age, we need fewer calories - about 10 percent less per decade from age 50 onward - but not necessarily fewer nutrients. With our bodies' own natural antioxidant systems losing steam, we need to increase our intake of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables like artichokes, blackberries, blueberries, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cranberries and dried plums. Because of this calorie-nutrient paradox, it's more important than ever to choose foods with care, opting for a nutrient-dense diet and avoiding empty-calorie snacks. Fiber, for example, is a macronutrient that too many seniors get too little of. In addition to lowering levels of "bad" cholesterol, fiber helps improve regularity at a time when gastrointestinal distress may become an issue. Top sources of healthy fiber include navy beans, oats, raspberries, oranges and green peas. Protein is another macronutrient elders need but 60 percent fail to consume in adequate amounts. The body's ability to absorb vitamin B-12 declines with age, and salmon is a great choice as a two-for-one protein and vitamin B-12 source. As a bonus, salmon, sardines, albacore and flounder are good sources of omega-3 "healthy" fats that help boost memory power. Another nutrient for your noggin is niacin. In a four-year study of 800 seniors, those with the highest intake of niacin - also known as vitamin B-3 - had an 80 percent lower risk of developing Alzheimer's. Niacin sources include portobello and button mushrooms, red potatoes, and once again, salmon - an all-around "superfood" for seniors. Here's more "food for thought": Onions and apples are loaded with quercetin - an antioxidant that may be even more powerful than vitamin C when it comes to preserving brain cells. The anthocyanins found in berries, grapes and cherries also maintain mental acumen. Tufts researchers found middle-aged rats fed a berry-rich diet performed tasks as well as much younger subjects. Of course, what's acuity without agility? Help reduce the risk and alleviate symptoms of joint pain by losing any excess weight; a mere 10-pound weight loss can reduce knee stress by 40 to 80 pounds. Those same fruits and vegetables that can help you manage your calorie budget also can reduce your risk of rheumatoid arthritis, according to Harvard researchers. Specific foods for joint health include cherries and pineapple, both of which contain compounds that may inhibit inflammation. Diminished sense of taste and smell, also a part of aging, may incline you to coat your food with salt at the precise time when blood pressure concerns should suggest limiting sodium intake. Instead of reaching for the salt shaker, try herbs and spices to add extra flavor. Curcumin, a compound in curry, can serve as another weapon in your anti-Alzheimer's arsenal. Finally, don't let advancing years become an excuse for sitting on the sidelines. Researchers at the University of California at San Francisco found that for every mile elderly women walk per day, the risk of cognitive decline drops by 13 percent. Such moderate aerobic exercise also improves heart function. Adding strength training can boost your metabolism, build bone density and even lift your libido. All in all, research suggests that those over 65 who exercise at least once a week have a 40 percent lower risk of premature death than their less-active peers. So get out there, discover new activities, try new foods.

    Nutrition spray

This little helper entitled “Rescue Remedy” will not cause you to lose weight over the night. In fact, it will not cause you to lose or gain any weight at all: consisting of natural ingredients, it is meant to relax and ease you. Why can’t you do it yourself you ask? That’s a question worth exploring, but putting that aside, it turns out that most of the human population tend to feel tensions under these or other conditions. Not so long ago one of my best friends got married, a few hours before the ceremony began, her (then) groom declared that he does not intend to dance at the wedding. You can only imagine her condition after hearing the news – tears were about to ruin her makeup, breathing difficulties and a general bad mood threatened to ruin the whole wedding. And just then, luckily for her, her mother came to the rescue with the terrific relaxing spray. A few drops of the potion made her come to her senses. Needless to add, her husband danced after all, quite well too…men! Now besides weddings and other such extremes, there are everyday life stresses: exams, blind dates, job interviews, etc. Bach presents: an herbal mixture, 4 drops few times a day. Begin the process a few days before the stressful event, and use it on the very day of it also. Although it is not a nutrition spray, it could lower your stress level and help you keep on proper nutrition. Dr. Bach wants to “comfort and reassure” you from unnecessary stresses and uncomfortable situations. The spray causes no side affects, doesn’t make you sleepy, is not addictive, cannot be overdosed and is safe for usage at any age. It is said to be as relaxing as Yoga…so breath deeply, put 4 drop on your tongue and you’re set to go!

Nutrition zeroes or heroes four misunderstood foods

While superfoods like blueberries, tomatoes and spinach have achieved the nutrition equivalent of celebrity status, other fruits and vegetables generate little excitement - and even confusion. The researchers and scientists at the Dole Nutrition Institute took another look at several foods commonly regarded as "nutrition zeroes" and found out that some of them are actually "nutrition heroes." Here is a list of four under-appreciated - and even misunderstood - fruits and veggies that deserve a place on your plate: * Avocados: Some of the smartest folks I know avoid avocados as "high fat" foods, but the monounsaturated fat in avocados protects your heart by lowering LDL "bad" cholesterol while raising HDL "good" cholesterol. Avocados also contain fiber and the phytonutrient beta-sitosterol, which also help control cholesterol, and lutein, which promotes eye health. Looking for a food source of vitamin E? Avocados have the highest gram-per-gram content of this powerful antioxidant. Finally, if there was a "superfood for your liver" category, avocados just might qualify. In one Japanese study, avocados beat out 22 other fruits as the best defense against liver damage. * Celery: A dieter's standby, celery is often dismissed as a nutrition nonentity. But it turns out that two stalks provide an excellent source of vitamin K and a good source of vitamin C, folate and potassium - all for just 20 calories. Celery is also loaded with phytonutrients such as quercetin, which promotes prostate and brain health, and apigenin, which may help slow prostate tumor growth. * Parsley: Regarded as little more than a garnish, parsley actually packs a powerful nutrition punch. Just 1/4 cup provides more than 300 percent of the Daily Value of vitamin K and contains an excellent source of vitamins A and C. Parsley is also a top source of the antioxidant flavonoid apigenin, which, in addition to protecting the prostate, may also help reduce the risk of breast, colon, skin and thyroid cancers. Parsley's abundance of phytonutrients - beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin - can help safeguard your sight, and chewing on a sprig can help freshen your breath. * Potatoes: The fact that spuds are America's favorite vegetables wouldn't be so bad if they weren't usually deep-fried, processed and drowned in saturated fat. In fact, a medium baked potato with skin has 163 calories, no fat, and provides an excellent source of potassium and vitamin C, plus a good source of fiber, magnesium, copper, manganese, niacin, vitamin B-6 and folate. Potatoes also supply chlorogenic acid, a phytonutrient that may block the formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines and reduce the risk of liver and colon cancers. A recent British study discovered compounds in potatoes called kukoamines, which may help lower blood pressure levels. When eating a potato, leave the skin on for added fiber and nutrients. So, if you've been dismissing one of these nutrition heroes as a zero, give it another chance and see if you don't end up feeling more hale and hearty yourself. Jennifer Grossman is the director of the Dole Nutrition Institute. - NU

Nutritional applications that help fight against asthma

Asthma is often misdiagnosed in older adults because of the common belief that it is just a childhood disease. But according to the American Lung Association, experts now think about 10 percent of the people with asthma are over age 65. Some adults with asthma have dealt with the disease all their lives. Others may have had asthma as a child and experienced it again after many symptom-free years. But if you've developed breathing problems as an adult, you have lots of company. Lateonset asthma is becoming more common and is often triggered by a serious respiratory infection. Women are more likely to be affected than men, possibly because of their smaller airways. Researchers think hormones may also play a part. They've found that women who are on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) are 50 percent more likely to develop asthma than women who aren't on HRT. Although asthma is a serious and potentially fatal disease, you can protect yourself by avoiding things that trigger an attack. Cigarette smoke, cold air, dust, and mold are a few examples of asthma triggers. And research shows that eating foods rich in certain nutrients may help reduce your asthma symptoms. Nutritional blockbusters that fight asthma Vitamin C. Researchers say antioxidant vitamins could play an important role in preventing asthma or controlling its symptoms. Vitamin C is the perfect example. Studies have found that vitamin C not only improves asthma symptoms, it helps you avoid the disease altogether. For top-notch asthma protection, mix up a fruit salad with oranges, pineapple, strawberries, kiwifruit, and papaya. Then pile your dinner plate with high-C vegetables like broccoli, red and green peppers, brussels sprouts, cabbage, and peas. Vitamin E. Another antioxidant powerhouse that may cut your risk of asthma is vitamin E. A study in Saudi Arabia found that children who had the least vitamin E in their diets were three times more likely to get asthma. Research also shows that vitamin E helps protect you from developing this condition as an adult. For extra lung protection, sprinkle some vitamin E-packed wheat germ, almonds, peanuts, or sunflower seeds on a salad or in baked goods. Vitamin A. This vitamin completes the asthma-fighting trio of antioxidants. Studies find that people who eat vitamin A-rich foods tend to have clearer air passages, which makes breathing easier. You'll find vitamin A in meat and dairy products, especially beef and chicken livers, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, and egg yolks. Lycopene. Think pink - or red - to help avoid asthma symptoms. Lycopene, the carotenoid that gives foods their pink or red coloring, may protect against asthma, according to a recent small study. Researchers gave people with exercise-induced asthma 30 milligrams of lycopene each day for one week. At the end of the week, more than half the people showed significant protection against asthma symptoms. It's always best to get your nutrients from foods, and in this case, it could earn you double protection. Many foods that contain lycopene, such as tomatoes, pink grapefruit, and watermelon, are also high in vitamin C. Magnesium and selenium. These minerals may be the dynamic duo of asthma-fighting minerals. Magnesium acts as a bronchodilator, which means it helps open up your airways, making it easier to breathe. Selenium's power against asthma may come from its antioxidant abilities. Studies show that people with low levels of selenium are more likely to have asthma. You'll find selenium in meats and shellfish and in vegetables and grains grown in selenium-rich soil. Food sources of magnesium include avocados, oysters, and beans. Broccoli is a good source of both minerals. Water. A tall glass of water could be your ally if you're asthmatic. Researchers at the University at Buffalo (UB) discovered that the symptoms of people with exercise-induced asthma got worse, both before and during exercise, when they didn't drink enough water. Frank Cerny, Ph. D., stresses the importance of drinking water, especially if you have asthma. "The message continues to be, `Drink fluids whenever you get the chance," says Cerny, chairman of the UB Department of Physical Therapy, Exercise, and Nutrition Sciences. "If you have asthma, dehydration may make it worse, particularly during exercise." Your body needs water long before you feel thirst so don't wait until you're thirsty to wet your whistle. Make sure you drink at least six full glasses of water every day - more when you exercise. Caffeine. Start your morning with a fragrant cup of coffee, and you may ease your asthma. Caffeine is chemically related to theophylline, a drug used to treat asthma. When you have an asthma attack, the muscles around your airways tighten up and your passages swell, making it difficult to breathe. Caffeine helps relax your bronchial tubes so your airways stay open. Research shows that caffeine can help improve symptoms for up to four hours.

    Nutritional benefits of whey protein

Adequate nutrition for your body before and after strenuous work-outs is important in order for you to reap the maximum benefits from your efforts. An increasingly popular way of achieving this is through the use of natural Whey Protein supplements. Nowadays many athletes, especially Body Builders, are utilizing natural Whey Protein supplements to replenish protein levels that are burned off through hard-core exercise routines. Amino Acids prevent deterioration in muscle tissue as well as provide endurance and assist in building mass. Proteins help supply these amino acids. - So what exactly is Whey Protein? Whey Protein is derived from cow's milk and is also a by-product of making cheese, which in the past was typically thrown out as a waste product. We now know that Whey Protein is rich in amino acids essential for building muscle and overall good health. Whey Protein is also naturally found in breast milk as well as some types of baby formula. Although protein is also found in other foods such as meats and vegetables, Whey Protein is known to have the highest digestible levels of protein that the body can use. Whey Protein offers several other health benefits like a healthier immune system, stronger bones, weight loss, and just plain overall better well being. Whey Protein is also sometimes used to help speed the healing of wounds or burns. - Are there risks or side affects? Since Whey Protein is derived from food it doesn't have any of the risks associated with man-made supplements. However, you can even have too much of a good thing if you're not careful. Extreme high use can be more than your liver can handle. Moderation is always best. For those who are lactose intolerant, there is Whey Protein Isolate which has less than 1% lactose.

    Nutritional immunology gastrointestinal drugs

Gastrointestinal Drugs Considering the average diet of most Americans, it is no wonder the country is prone to stomach chaos, indigestion woes, gas attacks and ulcer pains. Doctors suggest healthier changes in diet for better gastrointestinal performance, but instead of giving up bad habits, the majority of people continue to give their stomachs good reason for upset. Rather than choosing good nutrition, they depend on gastrointestinal drugs to calm their troubled insides only to continue making poor dietary choices. It is an endless cycle plaqued with a plethora of potential problems from unplesant side effects to irreversible damage to one of the body's most vital systems. Gastrointestinal drugs - such as antacids and anti-flatulents, laxatives, stomach acid blockers and ulcer drugs - may help the junk addict rationalize a substandard diet, but the body is not so easily fooled by these chemical dangers. Antacids and Antiflatulents (Anti-gas) An antacid is a common follow-up to a disagreeable meal, carelessly consumed as if it were a mere after dinner mint. However, the contents of antacids deserve cautious consideration. Many antacids feature aluminum hydroxide, an ingredient used to treat stomach acid and other antacids contain a combination of aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide and simethicone. Unfortunately, aluminum can cause bone damage, and the magnesium found in antacids can cause severe diarrhea. Doctors strongly discourage older adults with severe kidney disease from using magnesium antacids. Other adverse side effects caused by antacids ingredients include painful urination, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, mental changes, muscle weakness, diarrhea, vomiting and stomach cramps. Not only found in antacids, the combination of magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide and simethicone is also taken as an antiflatulent (anti-gas) drug. But, according to physicians, there is no evidence that simethicone alone or combined with other ingredients effectively treats excess gas. In fact, physicians believe that treating excess gas is by and large a futile process. Suffers from excess gas may actually have a bloated feeling from overeating or discomfort from eating the wrong food. In this case, no anti-gas drug will help because the problem has nothing to do with gas. In general, the passing of gas is no cause for medical concern, but rather, a cause to improve diet. Laxatives Every year, Americans spend $725 million on laxatives (constipation 1). As with antacids and antiflatulents, many people take laxatives far more frequently than necessary. This is dangerous for several reasons. First, laxatives can cause lasting damage to the intestines and can interfere with the body's use of nutrients. Second, they can be habit forming. Of taken for long periods, they inhibit the body's natural abolity to digest food properly, causing consumer dependency. The unpleasant side effects are numerous and scientists are continually discovering additional causes for concern. For example, the laxative ingredient danthron was recently recalled in the United States because of its cancer-causing possibilities. According to physicians, laxatives should not be used to "clean out the system" or to promote intestinal regularity, a process the body generally controls naturally. Unfortunately, even those with healthy diets are not immune to occasional constipation. Although it may be bothersome, according to physicians, constipation itself usually is not serious. For most people, dietary and lifestyle improvements can lessen the chances of constipation. A well-balanced diet that includes fiber-rich foods, such as unprocessed bran, whole-grain breads and fresh fruits and vegetables, is recommended. Drinking plenty of fluids and exercising regularly also help to stimulate intestinal activity. Stomach Acid Blockers and Ulcer Drugs Despite doctors' calls for improved lifestyles, the multitude of gastrointestinal drugs on the market is astounding. Stomach acid blockers, such as nizatidine, famotidine, cimetidine and randitine are another popular drug group used to treat duodenal and gastric ulcers and conditions caused by excess stomach acid. Long-term safety of these drugs is still unknown, but side effects may include confusion, hallucinations, dizziness, sore throat and fever, irregular heatbeat, abdominal pain, skin rash, depression, diarrhea, hair loss, headache and nausea. Because older people eliminate drugs more slowly from their bodies, they are at an especially high risk of side effects. Ulcer drugs, such as sucralfate, misoprostol and omeprazole are used to treat and prevent ulcers resistant to the usual treatment with stomach acid blockers or antacids. Adverse side effects include constipation, dizziness, backache, drowsiness, dry mouth, indigestion, stomach cramps, difficulty breathing, fever, cloudy or bloody urine, bleeding or bruising and skin rash. Certain ulcer drugs have also been shown to alter chemical markers of bone metabolism, possibly leading to osteoporosis. Long-term suppression of acid by ulcer drugs can also lead to intestinal infections. Stomach acid blockers and other ulcer drugs should not be taken for minor digestive complain such as occasional upset stomach, nausea or heartburn, as there is no evidence that they effectively treat these problems. They should also not be used by those with pre-existing conditions and in combination with other drugs, so it is critical to consult with a physician before taking any ulcer drug. It is also important to recognize that even with treatment, ulcers frequently return after a few months. As long-term prevention, people prone to ulcers should avoid smoking, foods that trigger ulcers and drugs known to aggravate ulcers, especially aspirin, ibuprofen and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Anti-Nausea Drugs for Cancer patients Although most instances of stomach pain are caused by diet, feeling of sickness, including nausea and vomiting, are also side effects linked with chemotherapy drugs can affect the lining of the digestive system and others can cause people to lose their appetite for a time. More rarely, chemotherapy drugs can cause constipation. A doctor may prescribe one of a number of anti-sickness drugs (antiemetics) to stop or reduce these side effects. However, these drugs can cause further side effects including signs of tardive dyskinesia, parkinsonism and neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Eating small, frequent meals so the stomach is never empty, avoiding foods with strong smells and drinking clear liquids are simple dietary changes that may prevent the need for antinausea drugs (drum). Effective Solutions to Gastrointestinal Upset Stomach disconfort is real, but it is preventable in many cases. According to physicians, dietary changes, as oposed to drugs, should be the first solution in the attack against inner aches and pains. E. Excel family's goal offers healthy and delicious ways to better meet the body's nutritional needs. As medical studies demonstrate, improved daily eating habits may help prevent the gastrointestinal nightmares haunting the stomachs of millions. Furthermore, choosing a healthy lifestyle hushes the phrase "oh, I shouldn't have" and prevents emergency drugstore trips and the body will celebrate their absence.

    Nutritional immunology the best solution

Prevention Versus Cure We are born inherently with the best doctor in the world - our immune system. When the immune system is funtioning proberly, it should serve as a strong defense from most illness. Nutrition and proper care of the body can do wonders for the immune system. Regardless of the condition of our health, our bodies constantly require nutrition. When we are healthy, wholesome nutrition can prevent us from getting sick. Similarly, when we are sick, proper nourishment can help us recover from illness. Nutritional Immunology is a science that studies the relationship between nutrition and the immune system. Healthful foods contribute to a strong immune response system, which fights disease-causing bacteria. Many people make an extra effort to be aware of nutrtition when they are sick, but few take the preventive measures that could have stopped the illness before it started. The essence of Nutritional Immunology promotes overall health regulation rather than trying to repair the problem once it occures. Concerns of Modern Medicine Even though medical drugs can provide us with symptomatic relief, there are many considerations to weigh carefully regarding the intake of elements in our bodies. Is the desired effect occuring? Are there adverse side effects? What is the precise dosage needed for the illness? Will this drug interact negatively with other drugs? It is the responsibility of every consumer to ask these questions and learn the essential facts. The patient should take an active participation with a thorough and symphathetic doctor if a drug is needed. The Best Solution Essetially, each time we choose whole foods and excellent nutrition, we allow our "internal doctor" to do the work. By filling our bodies with the finest treasures harvested from the earth, it is possible to achieve a healthier lifestyle without detrimental side effects. The most notable difference in consuming whole foods rather than harsh chemicals is the unknown effects. Clearly, the best solution is to avoid illness together. It is time to live proactively: to foster proper nutrition in our diets, to gain the rewards of a powerful immune system and in turn to enjoy the fruits of a healthy body. The Essence of E. Excel Family E. Excel family is dedicated to the research of Nutritional Immunology. Education is the lifeblood of our industry: by sharing our understanding with each person we contact, we give the gift of health and knowledge. By gaining the insight on how to prevent illness, we can maintain a healthy and energetic lifestyle. Also, by knowing the side effects of different drugs, we can prevent major harm to our bodies. At E. Excel, we understand the power that exists in knowledge and want to offer that proficiency to each of you.

    Nutritional immunology the cold war

Runny nose, stuffy head, congestion, sore throat, hay fever, asthma attack - the annoying symptoms of a cold war waging closer to home. To varying degrees, all people are forced to combat the dreaded cold and its violent relatives. Although it has long been said that there is no cure for the common cold, sufferers seem willing to try anything to breathe easy again, collectively spending billions of dollars each year on cold-related medicines, cough suppressants, antihistamines, asthma drugs and antibiotics. Despite controversial data regarding the efficacy of these drugs, people casually consume them, only to discover that drugs' harmful side effects are a heavy price to pay for temporary freedom. Cold and Allergy Medicines Because a cold is caused by a virus, it cannot be cured by medication. Cold medicines may help suppress symptoms, but the cold virus continues to roam inside the body. Notwithstanding this fact, potentially harmful cold medicines abide in most household medicine cabinets. Beside their questionable ability to offer relief, cold medicines may contain drugs such as triprolidine, pseudoephedrine, guanifenesin, phenylpropanolomine and pheynylephrine. Many cold medicines combine several of these chemicals into one tablet, giving the false impression that more is better, when in actuality, they merely increase the risk of unwanted side effects. The damaging results of these drugs may include high blood pressure (especially dangerous for people with heart disease, diabetes or thyroid disease), confusion, nervousness, dry mouth, constipation, difficulty urinating, decreased sweating and worsening og glaucoma. Unaware of these side effects, many people also mistakenly use cold medicines to regularly treat allergies. Nasal sprays containing ingredients such as pseudoephedrine hydrochloride or other antihistamines may prove harmful to sufferes of allergies. Using these ingredients may lead to rebound congestion, icreased nasal stuffiness and permanent damage to the membranes lining the nose. Cough Suppressants Just as a runny nose promotes beneficial drainage, a fact ignored by many, a cough can also be a productive way to naturally remove harmful material. Although a dry or painful cough may be a sign of a more serious condition, most coughs should not ne depressed. Adverse effects of cough suppressants such as hydrocodone, dextromethorphan and phenyltoloxamine include skin rash, dizziness, nausea, nasal congestion, constipation, dry mouth, difficulty urinating, blurred vision and headache. The combination of iodinated glycerol and codeine, commonly promoted as a cough suppressant, should especially be avoided. An unpublished study performed under the direction of the National Toxology Program (Department of Human Services) found that Iodinated glycerol may cause illnesses as severe as cancer. In general, coughs are most effectively combated by clear liquids, which help thin mucus and promote effortless breathing. Antibistamines Ironically, some drugs prolong cold symptoms and antihistamines are a prime example of drugs people wrongly assume can effectively treat any illness. Antihistamines can actually make a cold or cough worse by thickening nasal secretions and drying mucous membranes. They can also cause serious side effects including confusion, short-term memory loss, disorientation, dry mouth, constipation, difficulty urinating, enlarge prostate, increased body temperature, unusual bleeding, ringing in the ears, stomach upset and worsening of glaucoma. The antihistmaine hydroxyzine, used to treat itching and hives, may also cause restlessness, seizures, trembling or shakiness. Another antihistamine, diphenhydramine, may cause unusually fast heartbeat, increased sensitivity to the sun, unusual bleeding, sore throat, nervousness, restlessness, irritability and ringing in the ears. Adverse cardiovascular effects are extremely rare, but patients using the antihistamine astemizole have reportly experienced cardiac arrest, venticular arrhymias and even death as a result of the drug. Asthma Drugs Although its symptoms resemble that of the cold, asthma is a delicate condition that must be carefully monitored and treated. Drugs such as aminophyllines, theophylline and oxtriphylline are frequently used to treat symptoms of chronic asthma, bronchitics and emphysema, including difficult breathing, sneezing, chest tightness and shorteness of breath. Asthma drugs open airways in the lungs and increase airflow, making breathing easier, but this process is not without risk. The body can only tolerate a specified amount of an asthma drug. Too little may bring on an asthma attact; too much can lead to seizures, irregular heart rhythms, pounding heartbeat. Adverse effects include bloody stools, confusion, diarrhea, dizziness, flushed skin, headache, increased urination, loss of appetite, muscle twitching, nausea, trembling, trouble sleeping, vomiting of blood, heartburn, etc. The asthma drug pirbuterol can cause or wosen high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease. Inhaled drugs, such as albuterol and terbutaline, have been found to cause tremors, jitters, nervousness, and in extreme cases, begign tumors in the ligaments and heart disease. Antibiotics While used to treat diverse bacterial infections, antibiotics are also prescribed to address the common cold. Unfortunately, antibiotics are often proved unnecessary, bringing harmful side effects instead of cure. In 1983, fifty-one percent of the more than three million patients who saw doctors for treatment of the common cold were unnecessarily given a prescription of antibiotics. Since the cold and flu are caused by viruses, they cannot be cured by antibiotics. Antibiotics, when used incorrectly, can seriously damage the body's immune system. Side effects of antibiotics include allergic reactions, diarrhea, skin rash, abnormal weakness, joint and muscle pain, nausea or vomiting and bleeding. In extreme casses, a simple cold may even develop into pneumonia because the antibiotics makes the body less resistant to a bacterial super infection. When given an antibiotic, the body can also develop a bacterial resistance to the antibiotic, making them useless in future instances when they could have proven effective. After many congressional hearings regarding these harmful side effects, it has become the general consencus that forty to sixty percent of all antibiotics are misprescribed. In Conclusion As evidenced, the harmful side effects far outweigh the benefits of medically treating cold-related symptoms. Despite this unsettling fact, cold, cough, allergy and asthma sufferes can still find relief. In many cases, common sense can prevent the common cold and its symptoms from ever attacking. People who don't smoke, for instance, are less likely to catch a cold because smoke paralyzes the hair-like cells that clean out the body's airways. Frequently washing one's hands is another effective way to prevent colds. Proper diet in accordance with nutritional immunology, adequate amounts of liquid, and ample rest are also effective methods used to both prevent and treat cold symptoms. By taking preventative measures, even those most prone to attack can outwit and overcome the cold war offenders.

Nutritional supplements are they really essential for good health

Why should I take nutritional supplements? Can't I just eat healthy, exercise, drink plenty of water, etc.? A fair question. After all, quality nutritional supplements are not cheap. Let's look at the arguments for taking nutritional supplements in addition to a healthy lifestyle. Argument #1: Our foods no longer contain the nutrition they should Due to modern processing and farming methods, foods that should be high in certain nutrients no longer are. For example, the tomato is an excellent source of phytonutrients, specifically, lycopene. But when you buy a tomato from the grocery store, there is little to no lycopene or other nutrients left in it. The tomato was likely grown on nutrient depleted soil, fertilized and sprayed with toxic chemicals, picked green, then gassed to turn it red. Little wonder it has no nutrition value left! Another culprit in the nutrition depletion of foods is our food cooking and preparation. Even if you could by some magic acquire a nutrient rich tomato, cooking or storing the tomato will destroy most of the nutrients. For example, studies have shown that phytonutrients begin breaking down less than 24 hours after the vegetable was picked! Of course, there are many other factors contributing to the poor nutrient content of our foods: breeding, GMOs, storage, etc, etc. Once you consider all of the factors causing the poor nutrient content in our food, it becomes quite logical to take supplements to replace these nutrients. Argument #2: We no longer eat the right foods If you eat a 100% organic, fresh diet, you're a long ways ahead of the rest of us. Of course, the foods you're eating are still nutrient depleted, as we saw above. But for the rest of us, we need to supplement our diets also because we're just not eating the foods we should. Currently, french fries are the most consumed vegetable in the United States. We're just not getting the nutrients we need! Argument #3: Environmental stress necessitates nutritional supplements The Los Angeles Times ran an article last year revealing a startling finding: scientists announced that by the time a child born in LA was 2 weeks old, he had already been exposed to more toxins than would be acceptable for his entire life! While we don't all live in Los Angeles, we're all subject to environmental stress that puts extra burden on our immune systems. Even our drinking water has chemicals and toxins in it. The best way to counter the stress on your body's health caused by all of these toxins and such is to support your body with proper nutrition. Since our foods are nutrient depleted, the only way to properly support your health is through nutritional supplements. Argument #4: Nutritional supplements allow us to benefit from nutrient rich foods around the world. Even if our foods weren't nutrient depleted and our environment wasn't toxic, nutritional supplements would still have benefit. They allow us to benefit from plants and nutrient rich foods found around the world that otherwise we would be unable to benefit from. Good examples would be the goji berry from China, the Australian bush plum, and many others. Do you want optimal health? The only way to properly support your body's health is to take quality nutritional supplements.

Nutritional supplements and false claims perfect together

New miracle breakthrough weight loss pill! Just sit back and watch the fat melt right off of you. Eat anything you want, eat as much as you want and still lose weight with this new, scientifically proven fat burning formula. Do you want the strength of a rhino? Would you like to have a rock hard, chiseled set of abs? How would you like to be the owner of 32 inch biceps? All of this and more can be yours in only 60 days with the help of our new, barely legal muscle building formula! If you had a dollar for every time you’ve heard advertisements that sound like this, you would probably have a tidy little sum in your bank account by now. Just read any fitness or health magazine and you will notice that it seems as though half of the entire publication is nothing but ads for dozens of nutritional supplements. If you ever paid any attention to these ads, you will notice that just about all of them make some pretty outrageous claims as to what their products will do. Now, there are some good supplements out there that can help give you a little extra boost in performance or supply some decent nutritional value to help you out with weight loss, but you have to know which ones to avoid so you can find your way to the ones that are worth using. Here are some things to look for that will tell you which ones to steer clear of. The first obvious thing is, if the product claims to give you amazing results that just sound too good to be true, you will be disappointed with your purchase. While people want to believe there are magical solutions to weight loss and improved fitness, a good exercise regiment and proper diet is still the main ingredient. You also need to be aware of the so called “experts” who endorse these products. What degree or certification do they have? What is their degree or certification specializing in? Did they get their degree or certification from a reputable organization? Often, these products will rely heavily on testimonials and shaky evidence to convince you that their bogus claims are real. Testimonials are usually unreliable because they are often biased. Reputable experts such as scientists will report the results of their studies in medical journals so others can review and evaluate them. If there is no documentation in any medical journals, don’t believe their “experts” ramblings on the product. Another sure fire way to know that a product is not on the level is to look for some key words. People tend to always believe that all of these products on the market have been inspected by the FDA to be safe and effective, but the fact is, the FDA does not have much jurisdiction over most of these products because of their claims that their product is “herbal” or “natural”. People often will believe that ads in magazines, on radio and especially on television are proof positive that they work. Avoid any products with the words “fat burner”, “fat metabolizer”, “performance or strength booster”, “energy enhancer”, “anabolic or genetic optimizer” or “ergogenic aid”. Not one of these types of products has ever been proven to be effective or safe. Some have even been proven to be dangerous like in the somewhat recent deaths involving products like “phen fen” and “redux”. The bottom line is this; every year new products are coming out on the market. Most of these are backed by little or no real research as to their effectiveness or side effects. As long as they make no medical claims, they are not classified as a drug, meaning the FDA does not evaluate them for effectiveness or safety. If you do feel you want to use any supplements, choose ones that make no lofty claims. Look for products that only claim to boost calories or can be used as occasional meal replacements like protein powders, or claim to supplement nutrition like multi-vitamins. Don’t let yourself fall victim to false advertising schemes made by companies only looking to help you find useless ways to spend your hard earned money.

Oh my gosh what should i eat

Super foods are full of anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals but they also contain amino acids, which are the basic structural building blocks of proteins. Proteins make up the bulk of all your cells structure. They also act as enzymes for cellular reactions. There are eight essential amino acids they are: #1 = Tryptophan which reduces anxiety and depression, helps with migraines, helps the immune system, reduces heart spasms, it is also a natural relaxant and aids in normal sleep, taken with Lysine it reduces cholesterol levels in the blood. #2 = Lysine improves formation of bone cartilage and connective tissues, it aids in the absorption of calcium, it aids in the production of enzymes, hormones and the production of antibodies that help fight diseases and illness. #3 = Methionine is the supplier of sulfur which prevents problems with hair, nails and skin. Methionine aids in the liver's production of lecithin, reduces liver fat and helps protect the kidneys. Methionine also aids in reducing bladder irritations and infections and promotes hair growth. #4 = Phenylalaine keeps you awake and alert, it is used in the brain to produce a chemical that transmits signals between the brain and the nerve cells, phenylalaine helps to improve your memory and also reduces hunger pains. #5 = Threonine aids in digestion and intestinal tract functions; it also helps reduce liver fat. #6 = Valine calms emotions and aids with mental vigor; it also aids with muscle coordination. #7 and #8 work together; they are Leucine and Isoleucine, they help to produce essential biochemical components in the body, production of energy, stimulate the brain and aid with alertness. There are also non-essential amino acids, why they are called non-essential is some what of a mystery, since all of them are needed for different biochemical reactions in the body as you will see. Arginine improves immune response, promotes wound healing, aids in regeneration of the liver, and is needed for muscle growth. Tyrosine aids in healthy functioning of the thyroid and pituitary glands, helps to improve memory and transmits impulses to the brain. Glycine is required during cell production to release oxygen, it also aids in the production of essential hormones in the immune system. Serine is essential in storing glucose in the muscles and liver, also aids in the immune system and produces a fatty acid cover to protect nerve fibers. Aspartic acid aids in the removal of ammonia from the body. Ammonia is toxic to the body and aspartic acid helps to protect our body from the poison until it is expressed through the urine. Glutamic acid helps improve mental capacities, aids in healing ulcers and helps with fatigue. Alanine is a source of energy for the muscles, brain and nervous system. Alanine produces antibodies that help the immune system. Cystine is an anti-oxidant and aids in the protection against pollutants, it can help slow the aging process, it is necessary in the production of skin. Proline is vital in the functioning of joints, and helps to strengthen the heart muscle. Taurine is necessary in the removal of free-radical waste from the body, it is a factor that is necessary for changes that take place during aging. Histidine is found in the blood, it is used to treat several diseases such as RA, (rheumatoid arthritis) ulcers, and anemia. These are just a few of the amino acids that are essential in your diet for better health. It is very important that you choose foods that are rich in amino acids as well as vitamins and minerals for your health. Super foods are believed to contain the highest numbers of amino acids, vitamins and minerals. If you go to Google and type in super foods, you will find several sights, all telling you about the same thing, that eating a natural diet will protect you from several diseases and illnesses. Here are the ones that most people agree on, they are readily available in markets: Apples, avocados, tomatoes, bananas, cabbage, carrots, garlic, onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes, oranges, cantaloupe, broccoli, watermelon, dry beans, spinach, kale, salmon and other oily fish, flax seed, oats, soya, blueberries, cranberries, squash, almonds, beets, ginger, olive oil, tea, chili peppers, mushrooms, papaya, pineapple, kiwi, mangoes, apricots, pumpkin, walnuts, yogurt, parsley, sage, rosemary, cinnamon, brussel sprouts, lentils, pomegranates, concord grapes and brazil nuts. After much research I found that not all of the foods I studied were true super foods. You have to consider where and how your food is grown. They do however; contain the necessary ingredients to be beneficial in your diet. It is absolutely true that you need various foods that react together for improved benefits in the body. If you consume an avocado you will reap the rewards but if you consume a grapefruit with your avocado they work as a team to fight disease and illness. This is true for most foods, there are however exceptions and they are; Wild salmon, tomatoes, broccoli and broccoli sprouts, kale, spinach, garlic, onions, blueberries, walnuts, pomegranates, depending how and where they are grown, then there's goji berries, mulberries, goldenberries, sauco berries, acai berries, noni fruit, mangosteen fruit, bee pollen, royal jelly, green tea, sea vegetables, quinoa, and umeboshi plum. Sea vegetables are true super foods, they contain significant amounts of protein and they also contain all the minerals found in the ocean. They offer 10 to 20 times the vitamins and minerals found in plants grown on land with just a few exceptions. There is a reason for this; we, as a population, have depleted our soils of the necessary nutrients that plants absorb. We also use chemicals and pesticides on our crops, these chemicals and pesticides are non-selective and destroy everything even the micro bacteria and micro fungi that is digested by the plants. When you purchase an apple from the store it is usually lacking most of the minerals that the soil once provided, minerals that are essential to our health. This is not true for the sea vegetables, the ocean is still productive, we have yet to destroy it and therefore it is a rich source for your health. Kelp, blue-green algae, spirulina, chorella, dulse, alaria, sea lettuce, irish moss, kombu, wakame, and nori are all rich in vitamins, minerals and all the essential amino acids. Some fruits that are grown wild in other parts of the world are also true super foods and are still rich in nutrients because the soils are not depleted. The Mangosteen fruit is native to South East Asia, it has been studied for 20 years by independent labs and doctors for its medicinal uses; it contains 25,000 anti-oxidants, the highest number ever found in one food source, it contains amino acids as well as a vast majority of vitamins and minerals. The Goji berry is native to Asia; it contains amino acids and essential minerals and vitamins. Mulberries are native to Turkey; they are high in vitamin C, iron, calcium and protein. Goldenberries are native to Colombia and Peru, Sauco berries are native to South America, Umeboshi Plum is native to Japan, Noni fruit is native to Polynesia. The Acai berry has 30 times more anti-oxidants than blueberries, all eight essential amino acids and trace minerals. The list goes on, but what you eat is up to you, your health is in your hands. If you are already suffering with a disease or illness or you're prone to certain diseases or illness, due to family history, then there are a few things you need to know. If vegetables are cooked at over 118 degrees the heat will destroy most of the beneficial properties. You can not eat as much as you need, which is 8 to 10 servings a day, but there is a solution, you can juice your way to health. The food pyramid has changed which came as no surprise to me, I still have trouble with this type of system, not everyone needs the same things, and every person on this planet is different and has different nutritional requirements. There are some terms you need to understand before we continue: Vitamins = nutrients that are necessary to your health, a shortage or an excessive amount for extended periods can cause health problems. Phytonutrients = these are anti-oxidants that are plant-derived; they help to improve your health but are not required. Carotenoids = they are in the dark coloring of the skin of fruits and vegetables (pigments), they are also anti-oxidants; there are dozens of carotenoids. Free-radical = they disrupt living cells by attacking them, free-radicals are missing an electron and they steal one from other cells, they are responsible for all diseases and illness due to their damage. Free-radicals are in air and water pollution, and in junk foods we eat. You can not escape from them; they are a part of life. Free-radical damage accumulates with age if you do not protect yourself. Anti-oxidants = they neutralize free-radicals by donating their extra electron; all anti-oxidants have an extra electron. Anti-oxidants protect us from free-radical damage. Anti-oxidants are called scavengers; they prevent cell and tissue damage which leads to disease and illness. They are absolutely required for optimum health in very large numbers every day. Synergy = nutrients that are taken in combinations; these combinations cause the nutrients to become more powerful then when taken alone. Notice that the list above states that people agree that blueberries are a super food. Not all foods have been studied, take the cherry; it's deep rich red color is full of carotenoids or it would not have that great color. The cherry has not been extensively studied yet. What does this mean for you? Be wise and eat fruits and vegetables that have the darkest and richest colors, in combinations, to receive maximum benefits. Do not make the mistake that others have made and write off all the unlisted fruits and vegetables, everything that grows in the ground has benefits for your health. Your food choices are a life or death decision, so do your research and find the best solutions for your health. Beans may reduce the risk of heart disease; lentils support heart health; berries of all kinds have synergistic effects and are scavengers of free-radicals; citrus fruits are all full of anti-oxidants; vegetables steamed on low heat are a great source of fiber and complex carbohydrates; sea vegetables are bursting with carotenoids, vitamins, minerals and amino acids and can be found in many forms, tablet or powder. Sea vegetables support your whole body; green leafy vegetables are bursting with eye health nutrients as well as supporting the heart, brain and bones. Nuts help reduce the risk of heart disease; oats are a prime source of complex carbohydrates and full of fiber. Cold water - wild fish, not farm raised, contain beneficial omega-3 fatty acids, necessary for coronary heart health. Wild salmon, trout and tuna all contain different amounts and should all be consumed; seeds and nuts help balance hormones and have anti-oxidant activities; soy packs a punch with its anti-oxidation effects; mangosteen fruit is bursting with anti-oxidants and works in your entire body for your overall health. There is some evidence that men and women need different nutrients to support biological needs. Men need to protect themselves against prostate cancer, bladder cancer, testosterone levels, sperm counts, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Men should add five tomatoes, or five servings of tomato sauce, a week to their diet to protect them from prostate cancer. Three oysters a day have the full day's supply of zinc which is essential for the male reproductive system, testosterone and sperm counts. Men are three times more likely to get bladder cancer than women; broccoli, brussel sprouts and cabbage, eaten five times a week, shows a reduction in this disease according to the studies. Eating a handful of un-salted peanuts every day helps lower your bad cholesterol levels, helping to reduce the risk of heat disease. Potassium can reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke. Watermelon and other melons can help reduce your chances of developing high blood pressure. Women need to protect themselves against gallbladder disease, breast cancer and fight osteoporosis. Women tend to be anemic due to low iron levels, and women suffer with menopausal hot flashes. Women with low vitamin C levels are more likely to develop gall bladder disease than those with higher levels of vitamin C; papaya has twice the amount of vitamin C than an orange. Flaxseed is rich in an estrogen like compound called lignans. Make sure to get the seeds and grind them in a coffee grinder. You can put them on cereal or mix in muffin mix as there are no lignans in flaxseed oil; lignans have effectively slowed tumor growth in women that already have breast cancer. Vitamin K along with vitamin D and calcium are all important nutrients for fighting osteoporosis. Women that get enough vitamin K are 30 percent less likely to suffer factures in their later years. Collard greens are the best source for this protection, although dark green leafy vegetables, brussel sprouts, spinach and broccoli are also good sources. Women tend to be lower in iron than men due to menstruation and this can cause sever fatigue. To get the highest doses of iron you should try buffalo meat, you get an easily digestible 3 milligrams of iron in a 3 oz portion of this very lean meat. In later life women tend to suffer with the dreaded hot flashes. There may be relief found in tofu. A half cup of tofu contains 30 mg of isoflavones, which are plant chemicals that have a structure that is similar to estrogen, and may offer some relief from hot flashes. For men and women alike, make sure to add super foods to your diet, such as; sea vegetables, mangosteen fruit juice, Goji berry juice, or other berry juices. For information on the mangosteen and its medicinal properties call 1-888-374-4148, for all the other super foods just go to Google, type them in and do your research. Being healthy takes effort on your part, do not put your health into someone else's hands, they are not you and their nutritional requirements may be different than yours. Everyone is an expert when it comes to their own health, read and listen to the information but please make an informed choice for yourself. Do the research! Your life and the quality of your life is in your hands.

Omega 3 how will it benefit you

Thinking about adding Omega 3 to your daily diet? There is no doubt about Omega 3 offering benefits to a lot of people, we will get into more about that later. The essential fatty acids in Omega 3 have long been known for their many health benefits. Many clinical studies have proven that the biggest benefits come from DHA and EPA, these fatty acids are only found in fish oils, although you would still get some health benefits when taking Omega 3 from plant sources, it is recommended that you include Omega 3 from fish oils, either from eating fatty fish at least 3 times per week, or buying an Omega 3 supplement. Of the two essential fatty acids mentioned above, DHA offer the most benefits, most supplements however, contain much more EPA than DHA, so when shopping for a supplement, be sure to choose one with as much DHA as possible. Another thing you should be aware of when looking for an Omega 3 supplement is toxins (PCB’s), ask the manufacturer about the levels of PCB’s and heavy metals in their product, also ask if they can supply you with test data on the purity of their product. Now, let’s take a look at the benefits of including Omega 3 in your daily diet, these have all been proven in clinical studies. * Fish oils, rich in Omega 3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) have been shown to significantly reduce deaths from heart disease. * Clinical studies have shown improvement for people who suffer from depression. * Lower aggression in teenagers. * Improved memory. * Lowered risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. * When taken by mothers during pregnancy, it may help protect babies from allergies. * Improves the body’s immune system. * If you have, or are in danger of developing type II diabetes, research has shown Omega 3 helps regulate blood sugar levels, and decrease insulin resistance. * People suffering from skin disorders like psoriasis have shown improvements when taking fish oils. As you can see, Omega 3 offers benefits both for those who just want to be proactive, as well as it can help those who already have developed some types if illnesses. If you decide to eat more fatty fish, or take an Omega 3 supplement, remember to check the purity and levels of DHA in your chosen source.

Omega 3 benefits and best omega 3 sources

Omega 3 benefits are wide-ranging and proven by clinical studies. Understanding the best Omega 3 sources means you can include more of these healthy foods in your daily meal planning. From heart health to depression treatment to pregnancy health, Omega 3 benefits are too good to ignore if you are interested in health. What are Omega 3's and what are the best Omega 3 sources? The Omega 3 essesential fatty acids (EFA's) are polyunsaturated fats or the so-called "good fats". These desirable fats cannot be made by the human body, so they must be obtained from foods or supplemental sources. These fats are required for normal development of the brain, eyes and nerve tissue in humans. Clinical studies show that Omega 3 benefits come primarily from DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). The best Omega 3 sources are animal foods, not plant sources. For example, flaxseed is a source, but the body must convert the flax oil Omega 3 into DHA and EPA. This can be difficult for unhealthy or elderly persons. Three of the top Omega 3 sources are cold-water fish oil, grass-fed red meat and natural eggs. Omega 3 oils provide DHA and EPA in a natural form that your body can easily assimilate. No conversion is required by the body. Most of the clinical studies on Omega 3 benefits are based on fish oils from consuming fish and fish oil supplements. Here are Omega 3 benefits proven by clinical studies: 1. Improves Heart Health - fish oil and Omega 3 benefits include reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, reducing the risk of heart-related sudden death and lowering unhealthy triglyceride levels. In fact, the American Heart Association recommends two servings of fish a week for healthy persons and one serving per day of fish or fish oil supplement containing at least 900mg of fish oil for persons with heart disease. 2. Improves Mood - persons suffering from mood disorders such as depression benefit from fish oil supplementation and Omega 3. The lack of omega 3 fatty acids (DHA) has been linked by researchers to depression. 3. Reduces Risk of Developing Altzheimer's Disease - clinical studies suggest that fish oil and DHA may protect the nervous system in humans. 4. Improves Memory and Brain Function - DHA and fish oil have been proven to stimulate memory and the ability to learn. Research has shown that mothers who take supplemental DHA during their pregnancy and lactation may increase their baby's IQ. 5. Reduces Allergies - fish oil protects against the symptoms of hay fever, sinus infections, asthma, certain food allergies and allergic skin conditions like hives and eczema. 6. Reduces Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms - Omega 3 benefits come from the EPA and DHA in fish oil that reduce the amount of compounds causing inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis and other forms of inflammatory arthritis. 7. Improves Eye Health - consuming fish oil is related to lowered risk of developing age related macular degeneration, an increasing common eye disease in people over 50. 8. Reduces PMS Symptoms in Women - Omega 3 is converted into substances called 'prostaglandins type-3' that control contractions of the uterus, which cause the cramping. 9.
