Home loan for people with bad credit

Do you have problems getting a home loan because you have poor credit (or bad credit)? If so, forget the frustrations you may have dealt with in the past, there is hope! There are loans designed just for people like you. A Home loan for people with bad credit is becoming easier to find thanks to online banking. A home loan for people with bad credit is a unsecured or secured loan for people who have a poor credit rating. Banks call "bad credit" anything from having a late credit card payment, bankruptcy, defaulting on a past loan as well as several other negative listings on your credit report. A secured loan is a loan that is secured against property (the value of your home, car, business etc.). These loans are perfect for when you're trying to borrow a large amount of money, can't get a loan from a traditional bank or lender, or have poor credit. Also, you can get a lower interest rate then most unsecured loans. Unsecured bad credit loans are not secured by any type of property, and used to be pretty hard to come by and with high interest rates. However, now many online finance companies are able to offer these loans, with much lower rates. Bad credit could happen to anyone. If you fail to make a payment because you simply couldn't afford it, your credit rating will instantly suffer. Your missed payment would get noticed and flagged on your credit report, thus working against you when applying for a loan. Home loans for people with bad credit were introduced to help people who need a loan with poor credit, as well as to improve their credit rating at the same time. Many online mortgage companies now offer a home loan for people with bad credit because of their low overhead. They don't need to worry about large buildings, thousands of employees, or many other factors that traditional banks have to deal with. Because their expenses are so much lower, they can offer loans that most banks simply can't. Also, many online loan companies are now specializing in this market, now realizing that they can actually profit over most banks by helping people out who all the traditional banks ignored! It's starting to be a win - win situation. These companies are making niche profits, people with bad credit are getting home loans AND improving their credit rating at the same time. Providing that the borrowers pay the loan on time, there credit rating now gets better every month. Many people have actually raised their personal credit score (the three digit number that banks look at to quickly rate an applicant) by leaps and bounds. People who have been making their payments on time have reported gaining 30 to 50 points every year. For many borrowers with poor credit, that means having a nearly perfect credit score in a few years. Sites like Low Rate Source are now openly advertising "any credit welcome" right on their homepage. The other main benefit from sites like these is that the forms are pretty simple and fast (name, address and type of loan), so you don't have to sit around filling out long rate quote applications. We've listed several sites that you may want to check out below, both sites that offer home loans for people with bad credit and some trusted credit repair websites that we have reviewed. The best bet for most people with less then perfect credit is to apply with finance companies that offer bad credit home loans and to start some type of credit repair program at the same time, then if your loan is denied - simply apply again in a month or two. Good Luck and Great Rates, Liam Griffon

    How checking works

Help yourself avoid overdraft fees by understanding checking. While there is a lot of attention put on people who get into financial trouble based on the amount of money that they charge to their credit cards, that is not the only problem that people commonly have. For instance, checking accounts can cause trouble as well, especially if you do not know how checking works. Therefore, before you start using your checking account frequently, you should find out exactly how your checking account works. Your checking account is just another bank account, though it is usually not the same or attached to your savings account. Many people find it worthwhile to have both a savings account and a checking account. The reason for this is that you get interest on your savings in the savings account - while in a checking account, you have more freedom with when and how you withdraw your money. When you write a check, it is true that the money will not be taken out of your account immediately. However, trying to beat the system and writing checks before you have money deposited into your account is a good way to get into trouble with bounced checks. This is why it is important to keep a detailed checkbook, so that you will know exactly how much money is in your checking account at all times. One thing that you should keep in mind, as well, is that in most cases, debit or check cards will withdraw the money from your account immediately. Therefore, you should make sure that you count these transactions in your check book just like you would any other transaction. Another tip that you should think about is that it is usually a good idea to keep some extra money in your checking account. If you have a $200 buffer, then you'll be able to take care of business if something unexpected should come up. For instance, if there is an emergency and you need to spend money at first, then the extra money in your account will come in handy. This is also useful just in case you are waiting for a deposit into your account and it is late.

    How healthy is your credit

There’s only one way to discover the “health” of your credit. You need to examine your credit report. Your credit report is your “consumer identity” that potential lenders will use to judge your credit worthiness. Use these tips to give your credit profile the “tune-up” it needs: Tip #1- Check for Errors Your credit report or profile is more than just a collection of who your creditors are and how much you owe them or have paid them. The first thing you need to do is carefully check that your credit report is accurate. Nearly 70% of credit reports contain errors. These errors may be as simple as an incorrect middle initial or address. Or it could be as serious as a creditor reporting that you were late with a payment when in fact you were not late at all. This error might not seem like a big deal to you. However, to a future lender like a mortgage company it makes a big difference ! Carefully examine your credit report and if you find an error contact your creditor and the credit bureaus. Catchand correct these errors now before it hurts your chances of securing credit in the future. Tip #2 - Correcting Errors The two most common errors contained in credit reports are: 1) wrong account information 2) incorrect recording of late payments. If you find an account reported that does not belong you, you need to contact the credit grantor or issuer immediately. Remember, finding accounts that you have not personally opened is a sign of possible identity theft. Hopefully you’ll discover that this error is nothing more than an oversight and not an identity theft problem. Most often this occurs when they report an account belonging to a family member or someone with a similar name on your credit report. If your problem is an error in reporting a late payment you will need proof to back up your case before this error can be corrected or removed. The most common error occurs when a payment is reported as “late” when it was actually a current or “on time” payment. In either case, the problem can and should be corrected. You will need to correct the error in writing. Keep a journal or log of all calls and correspondence. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires the credit bureaus and the agency reporting the information to the credit bureau to correct inaccurate information in your credit report. Therefore, it is important that you contact both the credit bureau and the creditor whose information is in dispute. A sample letter is included here to help you in correcting your credit profile. Make sure that you clearly identify the information that you dispute, include copies of receipts or documents that support your position. Then request that the information be corrected or deleted from your file. Send your letter by certified mail and request a return receipt from the recipient. Keep all correspondence that you mail out. Give the agencies involved 30 days to begin their investigation. You can call them but be aware that phoning them does not protect your consumer rights! You must notify them in writing to protect your rights. They must notify you of the results of their investigation. Although the process will take time, it’s important to do it. This is your credit profile, your “consumer identity” that is at stake. Don’t expect an error to correct itself. At your request, the credit bureaus must send notices of corrections to your credit profile to anyone who has requested your report in the last six months. If you applied for a job and were turned down because of inaccurate information in your credit report, you can have the corrected report mailed to anyone who received a copy in the past two years. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Sample Dispute Letter Date Your Name Your Address Your City, State, Zip Code Complaint Department Name of Credit Reporting Agency Address City, State, Zip Code Dear Sir or Madam: I am writing to dispute the following information in my file. Your credit report will show you where you are spending your hard earned dollars. While the credit card balances may not be completely current, you’ll still see which of your cards has the highest balance outstanding. If you have more than one major credit card you should compare the annual percentage rate (APR) you are paying on each account. If you are working on a budget to “pay down” your credit cards, start by paying down the one with the highest APR or interest. Once that credit account is paid off, move toward paying off the account with the second highest APR. Using this method you will be able to concentrate your efforts toward paying down your outstanding credit obligations. You should also check with your credit card company to see what’s the best annual percentage rate (APR) they can offer you. If you are a good customer, you can often qualify for a lower rate than what you are currently being offered. Caution: Ask if the new rate you are getting is a “promotional” rate or a “contract” rate. A promotional rate will expire at the end of the promotional term, for example 6 months. A contract rate does not have an “expiration” as long as you continue to meet the terms outlined by your creditor for that rate. Tip #4 - Making a major purchase If you are considering a major purchase such as a car or a home, checking your credit report gives you the chance to see what a potential lender sees and uses to judge your credit worthiness. You want to make sure that your credit report is accurate before you apply for that sports car or new home. Errors or problems can be corrected before your lender can use those against you and deny your credit request. You’ll also have a better idea of what type or rate of credit you should expect from a potential lender. Tip #5 - Check your credit report regularly Check your credit report regularly. Guard your “consumer identity” as you would anything else you treasure. Use your credit wisely, along with these tips, and you will enjoy the benefits that your good credit and your good name deserve now - and for years to come.

How is your budget for the holidays

Most people have tried it – spending more on the holidays than intended. I comes as a surprise again an again. What is it with money and budgets that do not work? People split up because of money. It is an invisible force from our subconscious mind that tricks us to buy stuff we can not afford at a given moment. The best way to stop spending too much money over the holidays, is to set a budget for how much you can spend, especially for gifts, and then stick with it, no matter what. Even if you subconscious mind tells you it is okay. Do it outside the holidays too, people should keep a rein on their spending there as well. If you do it at all times it should be no problem in the holidays as well. Sixty-one percent of Americans either does not have an annual household budget or feel it is difficulty to stick with it. Out of those who have tried to keep a household budget, fifty percent gave up trying to follow it. Your subconscious mind is doing its thing even if you do not like it. The best way to maintain financial discipline might be to stop using credit cards. If you know you do not have enough money to buy something and pay for it this month, then maybe you should not buy it at all. Without a credit card in your pocket, you can not be tricked by your own mind to buy anything. Maybe you have doubts whether you should spend anything on the holidays or not. Is it not just an industry game that is way too expensive for regular people? I think not, don’t be afraid. You can get tons of great stuff that is not too expensive and that will bring joy and smiles in the house. Have fun and thank you for your time.

How to be a frugal shopper

A frugal shopper has skills and ways of looking at things that help him or her take advantage of the money-saving opportunities in life. There are eleven of these techniques below. You can learn them in a matter of a day or two, practice them for a few weeks, and then save money for the rest of your life. 1. A frugal shopper studies other people. Do you know someone who always gets the best deal on cars, boats, or whatever? Ask him how he does it! Some people will tell you that the cheapest coffee in town is $3 per cup, while others will say 50 cents. There are probably people near you living a good life on half of what you make. Learn how others do things, so you'll know your options. 2. Frugality requires knowledge of values. It's tough to get a great deal on a car if you don't know what a great deal is. Start educating yourself on prices, especially before you're ready to buy anything that costs a lot. 3. Frugal shoppers pay cash. Things are cheaper when paid for in cash instead of credit. Want that new patio set? The price divided by the number of weeks you can wait to get it equals how much you need to set aside each week. You'll not only save on interest when you pay cash, but you'll often get a better price. 4. A good shopper looks for alternatives. Maybe you'd have just as much fun taking that discounted trip to the Bahamas as you would going to Jamaica. If you happen to enjoy pizza just as much - or more, skip the expensive restaurant and call Dominoes. 5. Frugal shoppers tell people what they need. Just mention it in conversation. Do you know how many people get free or cheap things, just because they talk? My neighbor wanted to upgrade her living room debt, and was thrilled that I would take her 3-month-old couch off her hands for $30. Glad I mentioned I was looking for one. 6. Do the math. You didn't really save $400 on that car if it costs you $500 more in gas each year. Also, be aware that some stores are cashing in on shopper's assumptions that larger is cheaper. Yes, the gallon of pickles might actually cost more than four quart jars. Be ready to do the math if you want to be a frugal shopper.

How to control your expenses to eliminate debt

: This sounds simple, but to control your expenses you first must understand what they are. The only way to be sure you know what you spend is to record everything. This is hard to do. Then you will need to do something even more difficult, Sacrifice and Live on a Budget. Ouch, all people including you and me hate those two words. But it will take sacrifice to get out of debt. The good news is that it will be worth it. Every time you make a sacrifice and stay on budget you will be investing in your future. Always keep that in mind. Every step you make towards getting out of debt means you are closer to having your money work for you. The major expenses you can control on a day to day budget are:

    • General Expenses It could be music equipment, car washes, computer games, anything. Any things you can figure out which are not your needs. Maybe there isn't anything you can think of, but there probably is. Maybe at least once a month, when you go to buy something on impulse, you force yourself not to do it.
    • Food Expenses Stop going out to eat. This will be a huge sacrifice for most, but you have to stop going out to eat;it's too expensive. You need to bring your lunch to work and, if you have a Starbuck's addiction, stop buying $2 cups of coffee. Many people can save $50 a month just by brewing their own coffee, another $100 by bringing their lunch to work, and another $200 by not going out to eat for dinner.
    • Clothing Expenses Always decide what you are going to purchase before you go into the store and stick to it. Do all your "shopping" at home. If you truly need a new jacket because the old one has a hole in it and it's really cold outside then you can go get a jacket. But don't start looking around for the skirts and hats while you are there. Get the jacket and run!
    • Entertainment Expenses You like to have fun and you need to have fun. However, if you are in debt then, you need to sacrifice at least one major entertainment expense a month. Whatever it is you like to do (movies, concerts, plays, out to eat, sports, etc.) you need to reduce the frequency by at least once a month.
    • Gasoline Expenses As everyone is aware, gas prices have grown astronomically in recent times. For many years gas prices had been relatively level and it seems that they are making up ground ina short period of time. At $3 and more per gallon, gasoline has become a major expense for most households and needs to be specially addressed when looking at ways to control expenses. Getting a car with a good gas mileage and reduce your total driving miles can save you some significant amount of money. If you have colleagues leave close to you, then get them to carpool with you and share the gasoline expenses.
If you follow some basic rules on each of these tips on reducing debt and budgeting expenses and are willing to sacrifice you can save a good significant amount of money each month. That will put a dent in your credit card debt in no time.

How to create your own emergency fund

: Do unexpected car repairs, quarterly insurance payments or unexpected medical bills find you hard pressed to squeeze even one more dollar out of an already stretched monthly budget? These are inevitable expenses and sometimes can put you under a stress condition when you need the cash to pay for these emergencies and unexpected expenses. But if you learn to budget for these emergencies events and save in advance, you will be at a better position to handle them. Like most of Americans, you may stretch your income to cover the regular monthly expenses, and always choose to ignore or not to think about the brakes that are getting spongy or the plumbing that's beginning to make strange noises. And you end up a surge on your monthly expenses when the brakes wear off and the plumbing break out. Planning and saving for those events can help prevent an ordinary life from turning into a crisis and can also cut down dependence on credit cards. Not having savings is a major reason people get into debt. Here are some steps to help you get started to plan for your emergency fund, the "Saving" fund which will help you prevent financial disaster. 1. Identify your irregular expenses Analyze your pass credit card statement and checking account registers to identify your irregular expenses occur throughout the year. Examples of these irregular expenses are property taxes, insurance premiums, vacations, car tune-ups, holidays and birthdays. List down in a piece of paper all the expenses which are not spent in monthly basis. 2. Write the anticipated amount on the calendar In most of cases such as insurance premium and property taxes, you will know when the expenses are due to occur. And for those unknown cases such as car repair and plumping repair cost, try to anticipate their expenses and list them somewhat earlier than you actually expect them to come up. Be sure to update your calendar as you discover more expenses. 3. Plan-in the non-monthly expenses into your monthly spending Based on the foreseen amount and anticipated amount that are captured on your calendar, plan ahead your non-monthly expenses into your monthly spending. For example, you know that your car insurance is going to due on May, set aside small amount of your money for this purpose starting on February. And when May rolls around you can transfer the expense to your spending plan and have money available to pay it. Setting aside even a few dollars each month for foreseeable expenses can prevent larger money woes ahead. Sometimes, you may find it hard to set aside some extra money from your monthly income; but remember, repairing your car or paying your insurance is not optional expenses and you need to spend it soon or later. So you need to find a way to reduce your monthly expenses so that some money can set aside for emergency fund. You may need to track your spending; then, reduce or cut the optional expenses such as entertainment, dinner at restaurant and other impulse purchase, the money save from those optional expense can be put into your emergency fund. In Summary One of the mistakes people make when trying to get their finances under control is not having an emergency fund on their savings account. The problem is that if you don't have money set aside for those unavoidable bills, you inevitably end up adding to your credit card balance to cover the difference. The bottom line is to start today. It may be discouraging at first if you find that you don't have enough money to fully fund your emergency fund, but you'll begin to succeed the minute you start the process.

    How to get free stuff

: You really can get free stuff, but yes, sometimes there are strings attached. For example, when we were at universal studios I got a free backpack. The catch? I spent six minutes filling out a credit card application. On the other hand, we ate pretty well on free sample days at local food stores when we lived in Tucson, and there really weren't any strings attached, other than the risk of being sold a delicious new food. Check ut the easy freebies that follow. Free Entertainment Many libraries carry movies on DVD, and most at least have documentaries. We 've even seen music videos on DVD in one library. The only cost? The time to get a library card. Want free concerts? Festivals usually have some free musical entertainment. For example, the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan has free entertainment every night during the week-long festival, including many recognizable bands and (often) a Beatles tribute band. Go to Google and type in "festival" and the name of towns around you to find these freebies. Free Vacations In Hawaii, Costa Rica or Colorado, someone is just waiting for you to come and stay in their house while they are away. You may have to water the plants, and even get the mail for them, but you get to stay in a beautiful home in a sunny place. Sometimes you even get paid for these vacations. The only catch is that to find these opportunities, you may have to subscribe to one of the newsletters that list them. We camped for ten days in our van, at Williams Landing, east of Tallahassee, Florida, on Lake Talquin. It's a beautiful place, and even has hot showers. Our cost? Zero - and you can stay up to two weeks. There are many free campgrounds scattered around the country. To find them, buy a Woodall's directory from any large RV dealer. How to get rich today

: Want to know how to get rich today? You could try the lottery, or try your luck at the roulette wheel. Of course, you know the odds are against you, right? Want a better way? Start thinking about what it means to BE rich. Consider that you are sitting there with a fantastic machine in front of you - the computer. It can entertain you, educate you, employ you and more. Think back two hundred years ago, when the richest people in the world didn't have access to a computer, or a television, or a car, or a refrigerator, flush toilets or modern medicines. Think about how many millions of people TODAY would eagerly trade places with you. If you consider yourself poor, there are others who would consider you rich by comparison, right? "Rich" is relative, isn't it? While others imagine how much better their lives would be if they had as much as you, you imagine a life made better by even more wealth. It's certainly true that life can be improved by money. Those who tell you differently are lying or have a real lack of imagination. However, long before you get rich according to whatever standard or goal you have, you can get rich by living differently. You can learn how to get rich by enjoying the real wealth you already have. If you don't learn how to enjoy life first, you may not enjoy future wealth in any case. Who is really richer, a person with a lot of money and things who is alternately stressed and bored, or a person who is enjoying all the good things he has, however few they may be? Appreciate what you have, and you WILL be richer. Of course you should plan for the future, to make more money, but get rich today by living in a state of gratitude for what you already have. How To Get Rich Today - Part Two Isn't money a blessing, as well as an incredible and fascinating invention? It's the distilled essence of all the worldly things and situations you might want or need. Why not make more of it? The following are some simple reminders of things you already know about how to get rich. 1. Plan to make more money. Choose a way (there are many) and work it. Try another if you fail, but don't stop trying. Fast or slow - you can get rich. However, don't just think about getting rich. Put your goals in writing, and take the steps necessary. 2. Decide what is truly important to you. I have seen more than one person spend what could have been a wealth-building investment on things that really weren't important to them. Self control doesn't have to mean self-denial, but it should mean doing what you REALLY want for the long term. 3. Learn to manage money. If you watch those "Where Are They Now" programs, you'll quickly see that it's easier to lose millions than to make them. How many famous people have blown through all their money in a few shot years? About 1,897. Okay, who knows, but the lesson is clear. You need to understand how to manage money if you want to get rich and stay rich. Why not start educating yourself? Enjoy what you have, and put a plan in place to get more - this is how to get rich today.

How to manage your checking account

Protect yourself against the possibility of writing bad checks. The most important thing that you need to do in order to manage your checking account is simple: keep track of all of your transactions. This might be annoying if you end up writing a lot of small checks for small things, but in the end it will definitely be worth it. By writing down each check you write and the amount that they were for, you'll know exactly how much money you have to spend, how much you have spent, and whether or not you can afford what you are buying. There are a lot of good reasons to know where all of your money is going. However, they are not the only reasons why you should learn how to manage your checking account. Let's say you are not keeping track of the amount of money that is in your checking account. You know that you are getting close to the end of your money, due to it being near the end of the month, but you're not entirely sure. Therefore, you write your last check - and it bounces. Bounced checks are not only embarrassing, but they will result in a lot of lost money for no reason other than that you were careless. First of all, most establishments will charge you extra fees for bounced checks - and may not allow you to write checks in the future. Second, most banks have hefty overdraft fees - and you don't want to waste your money paying those. The next thing that you should do if you're trying to learn how to manage your checking account, is to try and make sure that you always have a few hundred dollar buffer in your account. This is not just to pad against overdraft fees and bounced checks, but can actually come in handy. For instance, it's always possible that there could be an emergency situation in which you need some extra money - in which case having extra dollars in your checking account could be a life saver. When it comes to managing checking accounts, these are really the most important things that you should do. Always make sure that you have extra money in your account - and keep track of your expenses!

How to manage your money when working overseas

It’s a fact that employers look favourably on a resume that presents an independent, dynamic individual who has an open mind and has seen more of the world than their own back yard. With this fact in mind a greater number of people are taking time away from their studies and careers nowadays and spending a period of time travelling or working overseas. If you’re considering taking a similar path this article will help you get your head around managing your money when travelling, living or working abroad – once your finances are in order you can spend the whole of the rest of the time having fun, exploring the wider world and meeting many new faces! Even if you’re planning a prolonged period of expatriation you should keep your local bank account open. You can then manage money and expenses back home more easily if needs be, and maybe even send some of your overseas income back home to pay off student loans or to save up for a house purchase one day in the future. Furthermore by keeping your account open you’re keeping your credit history alive which is important if you ever plan to re-settle in your home country and maybe one day apply for a mortgage or credit card. Next up you might like to think about opening an offshore or international bank account. Possibly your bank offers such account services in which case everything just got even easier! HSBC for example offers domestic accounts all over the world and they also offer offshore accounts to expatriates and professionals living or working overseas for a period of time. An offshore bank account will allow you to access your money wherever in the world you’re located, you can have access to money from ATMs around the world, you can have instant access to your account status online or over the phone and you can bank in multiple currencies. Furthermore you can easily transfer funds around the world and have one simple, central bank account structure that allows you to manage all of your financial needs from one centralised location. To reduce ATM and credit card fees consider opening an account with one of the major financial institutions that have ATMs all over the world and who are recognised around the world. The benefits of going with one of the world’s leading financial institutions is that their credit cards are more universally accepted, they partner with many local banks around the world and customers enjoy lower or no charges at any of their ATMs which can be found all over the world. Always check out the charge structure on any account though just to ensure there are no hidden fees. As an expatriate you’re entitled to take full advantage of the offshore world and save money offshore thus enjoying better interest rates, having access to more interesting financial products and benefiting from interest payable on savings and investments being made gross, i. e., before the deduction of tax. If you’re going to be earning more than you need to live on when working overseas you should consider taking full advantage of this fact and saving as much as you can while you can benefit from the offshore advantage. You will increase your savings power and give yourself a good financial start over and above your peers back home. Please note that you may still be liable for taxation on income derived from and interest earned on any offshore savings and investments and international taxation advice should be sought from a financial adviser or an accountant.

How to protect your credit when making purchases online

In today’s society more and more people are abandoning traditional means of shopping like malls and flea markets for more tech savvy and less time consuming methods such as online stores and auctions. Initially many people were concerned about protecting their credit when making purchases online but the web has become a buyers market as of late. If you haven’t indulged in the wonders of online shopping due to fears of fraud then read up because this article is all about how to protect your credit when making purchases online. With a multitude of encryption, password intense stores and computer firewalls, online shopping has become quite safe. As a busy mom, I make most of my purchases online because I don’t have the time to run to 10 different stores. When making any purchase online, the first thing I suggest is to research who you are buying your items from. If it is an actual online store see if you can find feedback about the establishment through search engine research. If you are making your purchase from an online auction service check what kind of feedback the seller has accumulated. Many sites now require you to register with them when making purchases online at their store. This is another great safety feature as you must enter a username and password before making your purchase. As long as you remain the only person who knows the password you have a greater chance to protect your credit. Another way to protect your credit when making purchases online is to read the fine print of your credit card company. While many credit card companies provide buyer’s insurance you should be sure to read the actual terms that your credit card company offers in regards to protecting your credit. Also checking your card balance regularly will allow you to notify your credit card company as soon as you notice any illegal activity within your account. Some credit card companies will even call you periodically to review your past ten transactions! I also recommend you reserve one credit card for online use. This will help you better keep track of online purchases and will be easier to discover fraudulent use if it has occurred (as opposed to keeping track of 5 to 10 different cards). Not to mention, if someone does get a hold of your information, they can only charge up one card while your others remain untouched. An extra precaution would be to choose a card with a relatively low credit limit. Now once you get hooked on internet shopping, you must be sure to be safe on the computers you use. All too often people start clicking away on public computers and fail to realize that they had never logged out of the store in which they were shopping. Most sites will not enable users to go back on pages without reentering a password but always make sure you logout of sites just to be on the safe side. Also, enable firewall software on your computer if it is on a network so other people can not view the contents of your computer’s hard drive. The overall key to protecting your credit when making purchases online is to be smart. Follow these simple rules and pretty soon you’ll be the one to tell your friends how to protect their credit when making purchases online. Happy Shopping!

How to quickly improve your credit score by adding positive payment history to your credit report

Most consumers are aware that negative items on their credit report can be disputed with the three major credit reporting bureaus. Often, this process can lead to a significant improvement in credit score through deletion of the damaging items that were lowering the score. However, to achieve excellent credit, it's not enough to just remove negative entries. Why? Because a lack of positive payment history is also an obstacle to having good credit. You need to demonstrate a record of on-time payments in order to raise your credit score. In this article I will describe two simple techniques for rapidly ADDING good credit entries to your file. THE CO-SIGNER TECHNIQUE All that is necessary to add years of excellent credit history is the love and trust of a friend or family member who has good credit. Credit card companies are always willing to have their best customers add extra cards for family members. By adding your name to one or more of their accounts, they will actually cause a new credit card to be issued in your name. The "catch" is that they will be the co-signer on the account, meaning that they are responsible if you miss payments. Of course, you never want to risk the credit rating of a friend or family member, so simply have them use their own address on the application for the extra card. That way, the card will be mailed to them, and even though it has your name on it, the card will remain in their possession. They can even cut it up if they want to. The simple beauty of this approach is that the new card will show up on your credit report, and normally it will show the opening date of the original card (not just the application date for the extra card), as well as the entire credit history of that card! It's like getting years of good credit added to your file with the stroke of a pen. THE PASSBOOK SAVINGS LOAN TECHNIQUE The "Passbook Savings Loan Technique" is a great way to add positive payment history to your credit file. It will also give you an excellent credit reference to use for most types of financial applications. This technique does require some cash – at least $500 to $1,000. However, this amount will be held in a savings account as loan collateral, and the total out-of-pocket cost to complete this technique should be well under $50. Here is the Passbook Savings Loan Technique in detail, so you can see exactly how everything works. STEP 1 – Locate a Small Bank that Meets Your Requirements I recommend that you work with smaller community banks and not the major chains. The smaller banks are more likely to have the exact type of account that you will need to open, and they are more likely to work with you and be flexible. Savings & Loan institutions and Credit Unions can also be used, provided they meet the requirements. The product you want is called the "Passbook Savings Account," which is basically just a simple savings account. And the type of loan you will take out is a "Passbook Savings Loan." This is the easiest type of loan to get because it is totally secured with your own cash. Most banks are only willing to loan you 85% of the amount you have on deposit, so there is always some reserve money in the account. Your target bank will be suitable for this method if it meets the following three requirements: A. The bank must have a Passbook Savings Account product with NO MONTHLY FEE on balances of $500 to $1,000. B. You must be able to borrow up to 85% of your balance on a 12-month loan schedule. This is typically called a Passbook Savings Loan. C. CRITICAL: The bank MUST report activity on this account to the three major credit bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax). If the bank product does not meet these requirements, then do NOT use that bank. There are thousands of small banking institutions throughout the country, so it should be fairly easy for you to find an appropriate one in your local area. STEP 2 – Open a Passbook Savings Account Go to the bank you've chosen and open a Passbook Savings Account for $1,000 or less---depending on what you have to work with. Take your Passbook home and wait a week or so, because you don't want it to look like you opened the account only for the purpose of taking the loan. STEP 3 – Obtain a Passbook Savings Loan Return to the bank and ask to see a loan officer. Look your best, be courteous, and explain that you wish to take out a Passbook Savings Loan for $850 (or 85% of whatever amount you actually deposited). When you take out your loan, your savings account is frozen. However, every time you make a payment you unfreeze an amount equal to your payment, less a few dollars for interest. Be sure to ask that the loan term be for at least one year, with minimum monthly payments. Do not get a simple one-year loan with no payments. This will not benefit you at all, because you are trying to establish a history of payments. You will not be turned down for this type of loan no matter what your previous credit history and in most cases it will not even be checked. If you have bad credit, make sure you tell your loan officer before he or she pulls your credit history. Tell the bank representative you are trying to re-establish your credit and that a good credit rating is very important to you now. STEP 4 – Make Your Payments Assuming an interest rate cost of 6%, your monthly payments on the $850 loan will be $73.16. (Remember, this is a secured loan, so the interest rate should be fairly low.) Since you have "borrowed" $850 in cash, you will use that money to keep the payments going on the loan. Be sure to make your payments well before the due dates. Always pay EARLY in order to be on the safe side in establishing good payment history. STEP 5 – Pay Off the Loan Early After six months, pay off the loan early. At this point, you will have approximately $980 remaining from your original $1,000 deposit, part of it as cash on-hand, and some remaining in the savings account. You will have paid a whopping $20.31 in interest (assuming the rate was 6% for the secured loan). I'm sure you will agree that $20 is a small price to pay for adding six months' worth of good payment history to your credit report! STEP 6 – Make Sure the Loan Shows on Your Credit Report After you have paid off the loan, obtain fresh copies of your credit reports to verify that the loan payment history is showing correctly. Since you selected a bank that reports regularly to the big three credit bureaus, everything should show up correctly. But mistakes do happen. If the loan is not reported correctly, ask the bank directly to fix the omission or ask the credit bureaus in writing to add the credit reference to your report. The Passbook Savings Loan Technique is a simplified version of the more complicated "Three Bank Technique." Basically, the concept is to use the secured loan proceeds from one bank to open up another account at a second bank, and then to repeat the process for a third bank. The math is a lot more complicated, but the principle is the same, with the added benefit of having three simultaneous loans adding positive payment history to your credit report. This approach costs a little more in interest expenses, and involves a lot more work, but can really turbo-charge your positive credit history.

How to save money on your energy bill

: Is it just me, or have energy prices just been going up and up lately? Unfortunately, this results in significant increases in our home energy bills. Fortunately, there are a lot of relatively inexpensive (sometimes free) changes you can make around the home that will save you money. I've put together a list of twelve tips that cover heating and cooling, lighting, appliances, and home electronics. These areas all tend to be notorious energy hogs. Let's get started. Heating and Cooling Tips: 1. If you haven't already, switch to a natural gas water heater (electric water heaters use twice as much energy). 2. Whenever possible, cool your home naturally. For example, you can plant shade trees around your house (especially on the east and west sides). Their protection keeps the sun from beating on your roof and siding during the summer, which can naturally keep your home 4 degrees cooler. (Trees also help insulate your house against cold winds in the winter.) 3. Seal your house to protect against heat loss in cold weather. Seal the ductwork, close the fireplace damper when it's not in use, and install a timer on the bathroom exhaust fan. Money-saving Lighting Tips: 1. Use dimmers on all your bulbs, and only keep lights as bright as needed for your work. Instead of turning on big watt-sucking overhead lights, use task lighting when appropriate. 2. Use timers and motion - or heat-sensing lights outdoors. 3. Make the most of the natural light from outside. Consider skylights and well-placed mirrors, which can reflect more light into a room, thus reducing energy costs. Home Electronics Energy-saving Tips: 1. Unless you really need ten clocks glowing greenly at you day and night, unplug TVs, DVD players, stereos, etc. when not in use (you can plug them into a power strip with an on/off switch to make this easy). 60-80% of the electricity used by these devices is sucked down when they're idle. 2. Unplug chargers when you aren't actively charging your cell phone, iPod, battery charger, etc. Why? Because as long as the plugs are inserted into an outlet, they're drawing electricity. 3. Unplug or turn off your computer when it's not in use. And in case you forget, set the system to lapse into sleep mode after a certain amount of idle time (sleep mode draws 60-80% less energy than full-power mode). Tips for Saving Energy with Appliances 1. If your refrigerator was made before 1993, replace it. It could be sucking down $140 a year in electricity as opposed to newer models, which require significantly less. Today's Energy Star-rated refrigerators only use about $20 of energy a year. 2. Do all your laundry on the same day, and dry the loads back-to-back. This makes use of residual dryer heat. 3. If you have a top-loading washing machine, replace it with a front-loading model. These generally use 50% less energy and 1/3 less water. That's all the advice for this article. Apply these simple energy-saving tips, and you'll soon be looking at smaller bills.
