    Basics of coin collecting

Coins hold a wealth of information on their small faces, from the year of their birth to the language spoken at the time, from the metals a country holds valuable to the cultural influences and historical figures that its people hold valuable. The history of gold coins dates as far back as 2,700 years ago. The first gold coins in the world were issued in Lydia around 640 B. C. certain internet websites will provide you with a lot of information about the history of gold coins. The value of gold coins is usually higher than the value of their weight in gold bullion, making them a better investment than the gold market alone. Collectors covet the unusual and uncommon above all else, and these minor oversights result in a very limited number of coins. This means that supply is much lower than demand, and even something that looks almost exactly like a common penny can actually be a precious rare coin. Although the aesthetics may change, price does not. The value of your coins stays the same regardless of colour. To the collector, bragging about 'finds' constitutes one of life's most enjoyable pastimes. Collecting coins is a hobby that can be enjoyed by anyone of any age. A lot of coin collectors started as children, with the help of their parents or grandparents collecting pennies or dimes. For some coin collecting can become a lifetime hobbymemorative coins are a popular form of collection, as are rare minted coins like those which had an error in their stamping. If a certain set of coins doesn’t interest you, it won’t be any fun at all to become a collector. If you are interested in making the highest profits possible with your coin collection, you will need to find a merchant partner who is experienced in the specific rare coins that interest you, and who will sell them to you at a good price. The Basics of Coin Collecting Coin collecting is said to be the “Hobby of the Kings.” Coin collecting is different from money hoarding. Collecting coins as an art form can be traced back to the 14th century. Today, people all over the world are collecting coins. Some collect it for their value, some just like the sheer fun that they get from getting their hands on different coins. If one is interested in making coin collecting a hobby, he can very well do so. It is a hobby which does not require a certain skill and it can be done by almost everyone. There are many different kinds of coin collectors. There are those who do it for fun, and others do in a more serious manner. Informal coin collecting Most coin collectors, especially the children, start out as informal coin collectors. They are laid-back collectors which do not have a specific goal in collecting coins. They might collect coins from different countries or from different time periods without any intention of being serious about it. Inquisitive coin collecting Once the informal coin collector starts noticing the details of the coins, he becomes an inquisitive coin collector. This kind of coin collector won’t bother much into spending money to get coins. He merely wants to appreciate the coins. Soon, he will start to put them in containers or albums. Coin collecting for investment purposes can be a tricky endeavor. As you become a more experienced coin collector your "eye" will mature and you'll be looking more closely at details like the lettering on a coin, making sure the letters are still clear and not worn down. American Eagle gold coins are valuable not only for their lovely appearance, but also because they are the only bullion coin whose gold content is guaranteed by the United States government. Coin Collection in Renaissance Times Modern coin collecting, where the coins are viewed as a work of art as well as a collection of valuable legal tender, is widely thought to have begun with Francesco Petrarca, or Petrarch, who is often called the father of the Renaissance. For most gold coin collectors, there are the highly coveted rare gold coins and a lot of gold coin collectors are interested in these rare gold coins that they will offer high bids just to be able to get their hands on these. Another common oversight is when the mint mark, the tiny letter on most American coins that indicates which mint created the coin, is missing or incorrect. Buy quality! Buy quality! Buy quality! That's all you hears these days when you are considering rare coins as an investment. Ancient kings (and even today's leaders) had a telling habit of having their faces imprinted on their currency. A highly motivated coin merchant will go to shows and retailer auctions, keep abreast of current prices and trends, and will generally keep up-to-date with the current coin market. Any investor will recognize the impact of current information on profit levels. Advanced coin collecting An advanced coin collector will collect coins with a specific target in mind. He may want to collect coins from a certain nation, or a certain time period. There are many tracks which coin collectors pursue when engaging in their hobby. Here are some of the ways one can use in collecting coins: Coin collection according to nation Always be on the lookout for rare gold coins, and have coins appraised by a gold coin expert to avoid large differences in price. People may want to collect coins from countries they had visited. Historical coin collection Another way of collecting coins is by taking in mind history. Many coin collectors engage in collecting coins during a certain period in history like wars or declarations of independence. Error coins There are people who find collecting coins with errors exciting because these kinds of coins are rare nowadays. There are many ways to collect coins and each way is as fun as the other. One must feel the hobby first before he decides whether to stick with it or not. Coin collecting can require certain amounts of money and the collector must be wise in engaging in such a hobby. A numismatist holds an ancient coin that has passed through dozens or hundreds of hands throughout the millennia. In medieval times, the collection of ancient coins was already popular, but it was known as a hobby for kings. An avid coin collector will be able to tell you virtually every piece of history that surrounds any coin in their collection both because they tend to specialize and because knowledge is one of the most important factors when it comes to starting and maintaining a collection of any value or worth. Some people have made a lot of money buying and selling coins, others have lost fortunes. If you are serious about investing in numismatics, first spend a bit of time learning. A good number of coin collectors collect coins according to themes. The coins they collect all have a common topic. State coins can appreciate in value if you know what to look for. American coins have undergone several changes in material. For example, during World War II, pennies were made out of steel, because copper was needed for the war effort. The internet is home to a lot of gold coin dealers wherein you can meet all sorts of people from all over the world who are into both buying and selling gold coins. Free Ebook! Basics of soldering precious metals

Before soldering there are three factors which must be considered. The design must lend itself to soldering, parts to be soldered must fit closely and accurately and the correct solder and flux must be used. Solders are typically classified according to their melting points - easy, medium and hard. This therefore refers to the ease of melting the solder. Hence an easy grade solder melts before a hard grade one. This can be used where a sequence of joints are to be made. Usually a solder must conform to the same hallmarking rules as the metal being joined - for example, a 9ct solder must contain at least 37.5% gold. However, there are some concessions such as Platinum Solders and some white gold alloys. Gas and compressed air mixtures are generally the most satisfactory for torch soldering. Fine adjustment of flame size and temperature are possible. The flame should be kept constantly on the move over the whole joint area, or over as wide an area as can be conveniently joined, in a single application of solder. The joint areas must be free from dirt and grease, and ideally cleaned with a file or emery paper to ensure the solder will wet the parent metal. Flux should be applied to the joint area and solder prior to heating. Fluxes promote wetting of the workpiece by the molten solder. This is done by removing any oxide films present on both the parent metal and solder and prevent further formation of oxides during heating. The flux must be completely fluid and active before solder liquidation and should remain so until after the solder solidification. If the size of the joint is large further flux additions may be made during the process. It must be noted that warming of the workpiece may be required to ensure full retention of the flux paste over the whole joint area. The torch should initially be held some distance from the workpiece so that the flame heats the work generally. If components of different size are being joined the torch should predominantly heat the heavier item. There are two general techniques used to apply solid solder. Preplacement is where small pieces of solder are placed at the joint seam prior to heating. Heat is then applied until the solder flows into the joint. Feeding is where the fluxed joint is heated to temperature and tip of the solder wire is fed into the joint and should melt on contact. Using both these techniques the joint should be heated more strongly than the remainder. The time and temperature required to complete a joint must be kept to a minimum. Gold and silver flux residues may normally be removed by soaking in hot water. Any further residues that persist may then be removed by brushing. In difficult cases the workpiece should be impressed in 5 - 10% sulphuric acid solution for 2 - 5 minutes, rinsed in hot water and brushed again. For large scale soldering a small furnace may be used to provide sufficient uniform heat to the workpiece. For mass production batch or conveyer type furnaces may be used. However, the quantities of components to be soldered must be large enough to justify the relatively high capital expenditure and development of a method for each particular soldering operation. All workpieces can be successfully finished by the standard practices and processes currently available. It must be noted that powdered borax does not always meet the requirements for all applications, where the extensive range of other solders now available may be used.

Batman villains what do you know about poison ivy

It's sad that Pamela Isley, or Poison Ivy, became the way she did because of experiments. While she was taking Biology, her professor seduced her and injected her with poisons and toxins. This caused Poison Ivy to transform into a plant-like menace to society. One of the Batman villains, Poison Ivy started out as a wealthy girl with parents who could care less. After this has happened, Poison Ivy's boyfriend suddenly passes away, and she drops out of school. She is gradually changing from Pamela Isley to Poison Ivy. Moving from Seattle to Gotham City, Poison Ivy threatens the city with toxic spores unless they meet her demands. Batman, who has just entered the city the same year, is the only one who can stop Poison Ivy. She is one of the Batman villains that uses her potions to make other super heroes fall in love with her. Batman stops her from hurting the city, and Poison Ivy gets locked inside a mental institution for the criminally insane. Over the years, Poison Ivy's plant-like powers develop until she is super human. One of her weapons is the fact that her lips are poison, so she is the only one of the Batman villains who can literally give the 'kiss of death.' Poison Ivy was introduced in the Batman comics for a better female super villain when people began to identify with Catwoman, and even sympathize with her. Poison Ivy gave readers and audiences another sexy female nemesis to hate. Clothed in leaves, with flaming flower bedecked red hair, Poison Ivy was one of the greatest villains that Batman ever had. Batman villains what do you know about the riddler

Ever wanted to know about the Ridder? Well now is your chance to discover more about how this strange man works. The Riddler is one of the more interesting Batman villains. He is obsessed with word puzzles, riddles and word games. In fact, when the Riddler commits a crime, he leaves some sort of riddle to give Batman clues. He is pictured as a suave type of guy in all green, and with a mischievous look in his eyes. He usually wears a mask that goes around his eyes, and walks with a large cane that is a stretched question mark. What makes the Riddler the most interesting of Batman's villains is his sickness or insanity. In order for the Riddler to commit a crime, he must be able to explain it in some sort of riddle or puzzle. He allows the victim and the rescuer, usually Batman, a chance to try and solve the riddle or puzzle. You would think he would just stop giving clues so he could get away with his crimes. His own compulsion forces him to place the crime in some sort of riddle. He is not able to leave the scene of a crime without leaving a clue in the form of a puzzle or riddle. The Riddler often works with two females who assist him, named Query and Echo. In one story, the Riddler is said to suffer from cancer. After curing his cancer with a Lazarus Pit, he offers to help another person cure his mother of cancer, in exchange for help in defeating Batman. He then commands other villains to go after Batman. Batman's villains, of course, are defeated, but this character is definitely… well, a character! Battle tactics of the imperial army of rome

Battles were fought in much the same way as in the Pre-Marius times, with the exception of the heavier use of artillery. Often before heavy infantry were sent in, a barrage of missile fire from Onagers and Ballistas (ancient artillery) were used to weaken and dishearten the enemy. As the legionnaires approached the enemy and came within thirty yards or so, they would throw a volley or two of pilum that would weaken the enemy before they engaged in hand-to-hand combat. The single lines were replaced with a three to five men line, so that the soldiers could easily rotate to replace fallen or fatigued comrades. With improved training and uniform gear, there were, however, new formations the cohorts could transform into to meet a new situation. These were prime examples that exemplified the ingenuity and effectiveness of Roman warfare. First and probably the most famous, was the Tortoise, or Testudo. When deployed effectively, the soldiers would raise and interlock their large Scutum rectangular shields so that the entire company became a square box almost completely invulnerable to missle fire and objects dropped from above. The Wedge was also a very important tactic used by the Romans. Small or large groups of Legionnaires could form a triangle, and then use the point to break and open a hole in the enemy’s lines. Troops inside the triangle would also help reinforce and effectively create a solid “spear point” to breach the enemy. It was very important in battles to be able to disrupt and break enemy formations, for it could very well be the difference between victory and defeat. A skirmishing formation was also used. The normally tight lines of men would space and stagger themselves to effectively increase the apparent size of the unit. This tactic was very useful when they need to make quick attacks and retreats, or when marching over rough terrain. It also let friendly troops fall back easily through the lines if needed. The repel cavalry stance was extremely effective and devastating to enemy cavalry. This only required two lines of men. The first line would kneel down and tightly interlock their shields to form an impenetrable wall with their pilum pointing up at about a forty-five degree angle. The line of men behind them placed their shields on top of the first lines’ at a slight slant. They would have their pilum ready to throw at the approaching cavalry. This was very effective as horsed do not willingly charge into a solid wall of shields and spear points. Instead, the horse would probably come to a halt before the line, leaving the legionnaires free to throw their pilum and massacre the enemy. The last tactical arrangement was called the Orb, and was used as a last stance defensive formation. If any number of soldiers was separated from the rest of the army, or else they became surrounded by the enemy, they would form a tight circle with officers and archers in the center and legionnaires on the outside. This required a highly trained and disciplined army at the individual level, as this was formation often took place with a small group of soldiers during the heat of battle. The Imperial legions of the Roman Empire represented the technological height of the army. By this time the army had fine-tuned their tactics, formations, and equipment and gear to create an unstoppable war machine. As the army gained momentum, employing a new recruitment method and furthering its power on the battle field and on society, the Roman Empire stopped its expansion and focused on defending its borders. By the end of the third century A. D., Rome’s military power had past its height, and had started to decline and struggle against the ceaseless attacks along its borders.

But what sets bead embroidery apart from other kinds of bead craft is that you can display your products wherever you go by doing your bead embroidery on clothing. Anyone who takes a single look at beads will realize that in order to create a work of art from these tiny materials, you need to have a lot of patience and creativity. It will probably take a very long time to finish a moderate sized design, particularly if you are beginner in the art of bead embroidery. However, it is kind of exciting to watch the design unfold on your fabric while you work on your bead embroidery. If you do not have an idea of what design to make, it will probably be a good idea to imitate a pattern from a drawing to make sure that your work does not turn up to be a mess. You can also trace a design onto your material with washable ink. As you grow accustomed to the process, you will be able to create your own bead embroidery designs with no trouble at all. Pieces of clothing with bead embroidery are now considered to be very fashionable. They display your uniqueness and creativity to the world. Beautiful designs found with a quilting template

Quilting is a long cherished skill that has passed down through families for generations. Grandmothers taught mothers who taught daughters the techniques required to produce beautifully crafted quilts that would be admired for years to come. Anyone who has quilted knows the inordinate amount of patience it takes to cut and compile the mosaic of patterns that together will make a stunning quilt. But the often overlooked fact of modern quilting is the quilting template, making the art of quilting much less difficult to master. A quilting template, as it name suggests, is a pre-made design that quilt makers can use to cut their fabric; it is generally made from a sturdy material such as acrylic, and allows quilters to cut many blocks of fabric at once, or one piece of fabric per design. A quilting template does much to improve consistency and elevate design, and has become more and more popular as a preferred quilting tool. Quilters can actually trace the design from the template onto their fabric, using a specially designed fabric pen, and then cut the design out of their fabric with quilting scissors. For novice quilters, the availability of a quilting template offers a chance to master the art of quilting without being totally left to their own devices. And for veteran quilters who are looking to upgrade or refresh some of their designs, a quilting template introduces a multitude of new ideas they may not have previously considered. One of the great benefits of the quilting template is its availability. A variety of templates can be found in any fabric store where you can look through books to find the perfect design for you needs. And the Internet has websites exclusively devoted to the quilting template where quilters can search through their inventory and order online. There are even sites that offer downloads of quilting templates that you can print straight from your home computer. Of course, the more creative among us can even create their own quilting template from something they draw freehand onto sturdy paper, transfer to plastic template material, and ultimately use to cut their fabric. The uses for a quilting template are endless and only limited by your imagination. Take the time to get creative and you’ll be surprised and undoubtedly thrilled with your results.

    Beauty and mythology

Since the dawn of time, man has always been fascinated by beauty. It can be the cause of his greatest joy or of his biggest failure, as in the case of Adam and Eve during creation. Poets and singers have sang paeans about man’s fascination with beauty and even the ancient civilizations commemorated beautiful things, not unlike the regular beauty contests that bring together the most beautiful women in the world at least once a year. Beauty is a universal concept that is hard to define but is understood by all. For instance, we may struggle to explain ourselves when ask what is beautiful to us. But if we are asked to point out a beautiful woman in a group, men do it easily and naturally. As the saying goes, when it comes to great beautry, we know it when we see it. In ancient times, people were so enamored with the concept of beauty that they actually deified beauty by identifying and worshipping female goddesses. Aphrodite is goddess of love and beauty in Greek mythology. Her legend says that she was born of the sea foam ("foam-arisen") after a monumental crash between the titan Cronus and the god Uranus. According to writings, Cronus cut off the genitals of Uranus and cast these into the sea, "and white foam arose from immortal flesh; with it a girl grew." Freya is the goddess of fertility as well as of love, sex, war, beauty, prophecies and attraction in Norse mythology. Like the modern-day woman, Freya was crazy about jewelry. She named her daughter "Hnoss," meaning "jewel". Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, light, wisdom and fortune, as well as (secondarily) luck, beauty and fertility in Hindu mythology. She is the goddess who conforms the least to our conventional view of beauty. Lakshmi is often portrayed as a fair lady with four arms who sat on a lotus and projected a benign countenance. Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty, is the most famous of all the goddesses of beauty. When painting and sculpture dominated the Renaissance period of Europe, Venus was a very popular subject among artists, who often portrayed her in a state of nudity.

Beauty and the beast tickets a timeless classic continues

Beauty and the Beast tickets have been available on Broadway since 1994, and as of this writing the production is one of the longest-running plays in history. The show has remained a big attraction for several reasons, including the fact that the production itself is renowned for its quality. However, the story itself is also a romantic and timeless classic, and thespians of all ages have enjoyed the drama as it has unfolded before them. About the Story The story begins when an unattractive old woman wanders into a prince’s castle looking for shelter. The prince is not friendly, and refuses the woman’s request, mostly because she is ugly. It turns out that she is an enchantress, and she places a spell on the prince by turning him into a horrible beast. She gives the beast a rose, and explains that he must learn to love someone and accept her love in return before the last petal falls off the rose or he will remain a beast forever. The prince is furious, and his encounter with a local villager who is lost displays his bitterness. Maurice, an inventor, is on a journey to promote his latest product, but he gets lost and is chased by wolves on his way, and finds his way into the castle. The beast is angry at the intrusion and keeps him as a prisoner. Meanwhile, Belle, the “Beauty” of the story, is worried that her father is in trouble and sets out to look for him. At the same time, she is avoiding a marriage proposal from a local tavern owner. Belle eventually finds her father and convinces the beast to keep her as his prisoner if he sets her father free. The beast agrees to this offer, and Maurice returns to his village. Over time, Belle and the beast become attached, and love is ultimately in the air. Belle sees that her father has encountered trouble back in the village through the beast’s magic mirror, and the beast allows her to leave to help him. The plot starts to become quite intense at this point, and just in case you haven’t seen how this classic story unfolds, we’re not going to spoil it for you. Instead, you should secure Beauty and the Beast tickets for yourself, as you’ll never forget the themes of love, acceptance and fantasy that are on display with every performance. Beauty and the Beast will remain a classic as long as there is a stage to tell the story, and it was nominated for nine Tony Awards the year it was released. If you want to treat your family to a night filled with memories, Beauty and the Beast tickets will accomplish just that.

Beep beeps understanding metal detector signal

A metal detector should not be bought solely on the suggestion of one person (no matter how good a friend). If you are new to the hobby, you should realize that long time detector users can be very committed to the particular model and brand of detector that they have been using. They are generally unfamiliar with anything newer or different. Be it out of sheer hobby or more on the professional level, you really would not perform well treasure hunting if you do not have a good metal detector to explore with. Hand-held Metal Detectors are designed to safeguard security-sensitive areas like schools, courtrooms, corrections facilities, sports events, businesses, nightclubs, bars and other public areas and events. They are used along with walk-through metal detectors. In 1881, Alexander Graham Bell constructed one of the world’s first metal detectors in an attempt to find an assassin's bullet in President James Garfield. Fischer patented a portable version in 1931. Beep beeps: Understanding Metal Detector Signal Treasure hunters love to use metal detectors because they aid them in searching for those hard to find metal items planted in the ground. When you are looking at metal detectors you might say that these contraptions are not that hard to understand. You are actually right. You just need a huge amount of patience and perseverance and you will learn to understand what the beep beeps mean. To learn what your detector tells you is matter of good listening skills and keeping notes. You need to tally or remember specific sounds and see which or what type of metals created that particular kind of sound. Be very observant and focused on the small or faint signals your contraption sends out for you. Your machine works by transmitting signals below the ground. When this happens and there are no metal objects your machine is very quiet and makes no other signals. If there are coins or other metallic objects in the area you are searching different sounds come into play because the signals transmitted are blocked and interfered with. You can change levels of detection in your machine by controlling your pad. There are specific frequencies for different types of metals you want to consider in your search. At the lowest level you may end up with a tin soda can or other metal scraps. At the highest level on the other hand you risk not detecting very low sited coins or other precious metal objects. Youve got to buy a metal detector that could withstand normal wear and tear longer than its competitors. The longer the metal detector can serve you, the better your return on investment will be. Some metal detectors use BFO (Beat Frequent Oscillation). This technology contains two coils of wire. The two coils are represented by two wires which is the large and the small. The large coil can be found in the search coil of the detector while the small coil is found on the System Control Pack. Any place there is construction and the ground is being cleared, that is a great place to start treasure hunting. Successfull treasure hunting starts with having the right metal detector. But which type of metal detector should you get? Complete info on metal detectors and treasure hunting at detect-metal. info. Go to your local " do it yourself " coin operated car wash. Look for the place where they dump the contents of the 25 cent vacuum cleaners. Search the piles and see what a gold mine they are for coins and rings. A good way to view the purchase is to decide how much money you are comfortable spending. It is our view that you measure this purchase against other purchases you have made. Remember, the higher the coil is above the surface the more depth you will lose. If they've got a old coin that is 6 in. below the surface, and your detector can detect 8 in., and the coil is 3 in. above the ground, you will miss that target. If the coil had been directly upon the ground you would be able to detect that target. Whatever metals you can find may be different from what a professional and/or a neophyte may find with the same machine. Professionals through continuous listening and trial and error have mastered the art of metal detecting. Their secrets? Simple! PATIENCE. Yes, you need patience in going through the area; carefully trying not to miss an inch and swinging very carefully. You must also keep your search very close to the ground just in case there are coins planted far below the ground so your detector can detect them. If you worry about your coils banging into every rock in the area get a bump guard or what some call a shield. Try wearing headphones to hear more clearly all those very soft tones and beeps created by your machine. You never know if they just might whisper a soft signal that there are coins right bellow were you are standing. You might even want to keep the pace at a minimum. You don't want to miss anything, do you? Remember all the beeps are important, so identify them and through patience and understanding you will be a more effective metal detector user. Hand-held Metal Detectors are designed to safeguard security-sensitive areas like schools, courtrooms, corrections facilities, sports events, businesses, nightclubs, bars and other public areas and events. They are used along with walk-through metal detectors. You could find rings, bracelets, necklaces, coins or anything metal. Depending on the brand of metal detector you buy and model it is you will get different results. Just ask or research to find out what kind would best suit you. Find the best gold metal detector today and start treasure hunting! Of course, it is good to know how to choose and adjust the frequencies of the metal detector especially when you are using it on the beach. It is also important that you use it at a strategic place or location. When using it on the beach, the modes should be adjusted so that the depth and intensity will be specified and clear. Lastly, familiarize yourself with the metal detector you are using to obtain the best results. Prices of used metal detectors vary from $275 to $700 for all-purpose metal detectors. Underwater metal detectors can cost around $500.

Beeswax candles are the finest quality you can buy

There are some very good reasons for beeswax candles manufacturers to use beeswax as a the primary matter. Though there are other variants such as soy wax or chemical products used in candle production it is common-knowledge that beeswax candles are top quality. The explanation is very simple. Beeswax is clean and one hundred percent organic when it is collected from bee hives. Technological processes have it ever more purified and then turned into first hand material to be used for the best candles on markets all over the world. Beeswax candles in the religious service There is a lot of candle burning in all religious services, and if poor-quality candles would be used, then there'll be quite a mess from wax dripping. Fortunately, this is not the case with beeswax candles, there is very little dripping or none at all. There is another great advantage to the use of clean beeswax, it makes very little smoke, thus eliminating the risk of dark smoke spots in the room, and allowing air in to remain fresh. Some Christian institutions make beeswax a must for the candles they use. For instance, the Eastern Christian Orthodox church uses only beeswax candles during their religious services, and The Catholic Church follows the same example during Liturgy. Furthermore, beeswax is the essential ingredient for the traditional Paschal candles also known as the Easter Candle. For such an important celebration, poor quality is unacceptable. Many producers try to get to a production compromise, they use a combination of beeswax and chemicals to reduce the costs of candle making. Unfortunately, products lose their top features under such circumstances. How to choose beeswax candles Beeswax is a used in the compositions of many scented candles; there's no dark smoke, dripping or bad smell. However, beeswax candles are not a must for daily use. It is important however, that the candles you buy contain a specific percent of beeswax. It may not prevail, but at least it improves the burning quality of the products. Beeswax candles are considered the most ecological variant of candles existent on the market. There may be jelly-like candles that look and smell great, but remember they change the structure of the air you and maybe your family breathe; whereas, clear beeswax can bring no harm. That's why it is so important to read on the package before purchasing anything, check for the beeswax content of the candles you want to buy.

    Beethoven

Born in 1770, Ludvig van Beethoven was one of only three of his parents’ seven offspring children to survive infancy. Yet the world of music owes this chance event an immeasurable amount, because he would go on to be one of a handful of composers to grace the art form with a style and quality that is truly unique. His father was his first music teacher, a proficient tenor, and his grandfather on the paternal side had been Kappelmeister at the court of Clemens August of Bavaria. Music was in his blood, and he started playing viola and organ at a very early age, although he was not a prodigy in the Mozart mould – despite his father’s attempts to declare that Ludwig was seven for an early performance when he was in fact nine. However he was certainly a talented youngster, and published his first three piano sonatas in 1783. He died in 1827 and it is said that as many as 30,000 people attended his funeral procession. How Beethoven’s deafness has helped interpreters Beethoven’s genius is merely underlined by the fact that he started to lose his hearing in his late twenties, yet continued through intense frustration and anguish to compose some of music’s most complex and beautiful pieces. For the historian and student of his music, however, the composer’s deafness created a unique opportunity to appreciate the composer. Because he could not take part in an oral conversation, he would carry with him notebooks and have conversations with people in writing. These people could be performers, conductors, students or masters, and the notes survive today to give a unique insight into not only the man, but his art, too – among his notes are specific instructions on how to play many of his compositions and descriptions of his emotional state and day-to-day life, all of which are priceless to the modern interpreter. Beethoven’s major piano works During Beethoven’s life, the piano as an instrument became much more accepted as an instrument, partly due to technological enhancements that meant a piano could hold its own with a full orchestra whilst retaining its warmth, tone, sustain and power in the chamber setting. The harpsichords, spinets and clavichords of the past would eventually lose popularity among composers and audiences. The timing could not have been more perfect for Beethoven; he would become a master at both performing on and composing for the piano. He is usually regarded as having composed five piano concertos, although his piano arrangement of his Violin Concerto in D Major is sometimes referred to as his Piano Concerto No. 6. Beethoven was a prolific composer of piano sonatas; altogether there are 32 of them, and many are well known, even among people with no interest in classical music. His best known piano sonatas are “Moonlight”, “Waldstein”, “Pathйtique” and “Pastoral” (not to be confused with his Pastoral Symphony). He also left copious amounts of chamber music, much of which had a piano (or more than one piano) as an integral part, along with his string quartets, duos and quintets.
