    George bush s deception

Yesterday, I watched in disbelief George W. Bush's convoluted speech to the House of Representatives. It was rather telling that this speech wasn't in primetime but rather at 9 a. m. (6 a. m. in the West). I know a lot about politics since I write political thrillers ( thetwentyfirstcentury) and I am constantly doing research for my books and articles. But it doesn't take a writer of politics, or even one who doesn't follow politics, to realize that what George Bush said yesterday made absolutely no sense. With all the (major) problems he and the Republican party are in, it is no wonder he has suddenly chosen to speak (or deceive) the American people about America's economics: November is coming. In essence, Bush said that the state of our economy is in good shape and is getting stronger everyday. Am I crazy, or has George Bush tripled the deficit since he took office (and doubled his salary immediately after being sworn in)? We now, for the first time in history, owe more to foreign countries than they owe us (weakening our position as the world's super power and endangering our defenses). The Iraqi War is going to cost close to a trillion dollars by the time it ends and we rebuild what we destroyed over there, destroying our economy over here. There is still the rebuilding of New Orleans and other cities, not to mention what disasters are coming in the probable near future. How about the billions of dollars a day in interest our country is accruing? Bush wants to spend a fortune guarding our borders, not from terrorists, but from poor Mexican families who have no jobs and need to feed their families. The terrorists are coming in from Canada and other cities, not from Mexico. Interest rates rise every month, forcing Americans to pay more on their credit cards and their mortgages and their college loans, etc. Because of that, housing prices have begun to decrease because people can't afford a home AND a huge interest rate, besides rising property taxes each year, to pay for it. Isn't this raising taxes by a different name. George Bush still believes, and plans to continue the ridiculous tax rebate (millions to the rich, a pittance to the poor). The price of buying gas is increasing the cost of everything we buy, although the oil companies are enjoying tremendous profits (Exxon/Mobil earned $340 BILLION last year). This residual effect has raised the prices on food, medication, clothes, everything. And it is not going to end, as I watch my gas station raise their prices almost everyday. How much poorer can we get? The American people have less and less and George Bush says the state of our economy is good and is growing. It sure seems to me and most Americans that it's our personal debt that is growing. How many people are better off today than they were five years ago? Not me, or anyone I know. It's all smoke and mirrors.

    Good bye america

The number-one question people ask us is, "What possessed you to move to Mexico?" The number-one answer we give is that we simply could no longer afford to live in America, so we found a country where we could, and moved there. We found ourselves in a position not unlike many Americans: A major illness strikes, unexpectedly, and though insured and with incomes, the cost of funding the illness simply becomes too much. It becomes, essentially, impossible. We were not alone. It turns out that more than 50% of bankruptcies filed in 2001 were medically related and were filed by middle-class homeowners who not only had an income but also health insurance. The prevailing myth that most bankruptcies are due to credit card debt is not true. Less than 1% of filed bankruptcies are due to credit card debt. Researchers found that, in those surveyed, 1.9 to 2.2 million U. S. residents filed a “medical bankruptcy”. The average person filing for bankruptcy during the 2001 period spent $13,460 on co-payments, deductibles, and uncovered services even though they had private insurance. "Our study is frightening. Unless you're Bill Gates, you're just one serious illness away from bankruptcy. Most of the medically bankrupt were average Americans who happened to get sick. Health insurance offered little protection,” said Dr. David Himmelstein, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School who led the study. Another one of the study’s authors, Elizabeth Warren, said, “It doesn't take a medical catastrophe to create a financial catastrophe. A larger share of American workers are going to have insurance that's like a paper umbrella. It looks good, and it might even protect you in a sprinkle, but it melts away in a downpour.” In the fall of 2002, we began to feel the sprinkle on our paper umbrella turn into an unstoppable downpour. We had to do something before the full brunt of the downpour tore the paper umbrella to shreds and our lives along with it. We began to look to other alternatives to purchase our prescription drugs and found them. Other Americans are finding themselves in the same boat with not many options from which to choose. I was reading the other day where a married couple from Illinois sued the Federal government for the right to import prescription medications from Canada. They lost. The judge dismissed the case. Maybe they should sell everything and move to Mexico as we did. Moving to another country—one with a different language and culture—can offer many new challenges that can surprise you, shock you, and delight you. It takes a bit of getting used to, to say the least. One such shock was the first time I got all my needed prescriptions refilled. I knew from our research to expect cheaper prices but I did not know how cheap! I went to the ATM and secured a fist full of pesos then trudged onward to the Farmacia. They were helpful and cheerful but when they told me the total price, I had to re-ask, in my terrible Spanish, if they were sure of the price. You see, I was able to get all my drugs refilled for the price of one, count it, one co-pay of a name-brand drug in America! I am not making this up. A month's supply of generic Prozac is less than $16.00 USD! We stepped into a new reality where everything--prescription drugs, housing, utilities, food, transportation, entertainment--is 25-75% less than it is in America. My Social Security Disability income adequately covers our expenses here in Guanajuato, Mexico. Moving to Mexico--an alternative for everyone? I doubt it. The solution? I don’t know. What I do know is that we, and many other Americans, cannot sit idly by waiting for our elected officials to work it out. We had to take action--drastic as it was. That paper umbrella wasn't going to last long!

Gun control how about crime control instead

The second amendment to the U. S. Constitution guarantees every American the right to bear arms. Has any law ever been so ambiguous? What are arms? What does it mean to bear them? At least with the first amendment we know exactly where we stand: Freedom of speech. It couldn't be any clearer. But, the right to bear arms leaves the second amendment open to different interpretations. We need gun permits to carry a concealed weapon. Do we need knife permits? No. Yet both can, and often do, cause death. We can own a gun, or a rifle, or a sub-machine gun, or a machete, and dozens of other tools to kill, even our own bare hands. So, gun control is a debate in our country that makes no sense unless you broaden the ban or acceptance to include all instruments of death. According to Population Stats, xist, America has the highest crime rate in the world. Everyday 30 people in the United States are murdered by a gunshot. That means 11,000 people. However, there are more than 25,000 murders each year in the United States. In other industrialized countries, Germany has 381 each year, France 255, Great Britain 68, Australia 65, and Japan 39. Based on population to make it a fair assessment, it turns out to be guns in America murder 1 out of 25,916 people every yearpared to Canada where the amount is 1 out of 190,387, and 1 out of 864,546 in Great Britain, and only 1 out of 3,254,508 in Japan, America is the killing field of the world. Gun expert Robert J. Spitzer, political science professor at SUNY Cortland and author of the book The Politics of Gun Control points to America's 'mixed ethnicity.' "Our diverse cultural background, composed of many different ethnic, religious, social, and other groups leads to inter-group rivalries, suspicion, hatred, fear, and sometimes violence,' Professor Spitzer said. "Most other Western nations, by comparison, are more homogeneous than the U. S." Which brings us back to the thesis that America does not need a gun control law; it needs a crime control law. The number one concern in America today is safety: Safety from terrorists, safety from drugs and violent drug dealers, safety from gangs, and safety from those whose evil ways affect our lives and our children's lives everyday. However, we have no safety of which to speak. Our police departments are as overwhelmed by the size of the enemy as are our troops in Iraq. Without safety, we are prisoners of our own society. Safety and security are more important than any other issue, for, without it, we cease to live. We merely exist. We must first feel safe, and be safe, before we can think about curing our other ills. With 14,000 of the homicides each year being committed without guns (11,000 with), we must look at the bigger picture. We must build more maximum-security prisons. Enough so that everyone convicted of first-degree homicide, or of a felony three times, is sent there for the rest of their life, without any chance of parole. (There is no reason to spend millions of dollars on each death row prisoner's appeals that last ten years or longer when it has been proven not to be a deterrent and when housing them is substantially much less expensive.) Within a federal partnership with select American manufacturing companies, these companies for the work they would be required to do would pay these prisoners minimum wage. The product they create would then be infused into mainstream American commerce. In return for these jobs, the prisoners would pay the government for their room and board, and any security, medical, and utility fees. If the prisoner has any dependents, their paycheck would reflect that deduction. Cut off from society, these prisons would be a society of their own. Away from us forever. Crime control, rather than a gun control, is a stricter and more effective deterrent than the failed alternatives. It would not just deter murder with guns, it would deter murder with any type of weapon, as well as rape, aggravated assault - ALL felonies. It would reduce crime and get these criminals off America's streets once and for all, saving the American taxpayer substantially in law enforcement: Money that will instead be used to build and staff these new prisons. Our safety is what we have to take care of - what we must take care of - before we do anything else. We owe it to our children. We teach our children to have pride in America. We teach our children safety first. We teach our children about good and evil, right versus wrong. What must our children be thinking when they see murder after murder on the news, and walking the streets with the fear of a drive by shooting, or of being abducted? We are raising a society born of fear and mistrust. This is why we need a stricter crime bill. This is why we must - we have no other choice - take back our country from these criminals. Yes, Americans should be able to have handguns in their home for protection, as long as it is responsibly locked up and away from children. Yes, Americans should be able to have rifles to hunt for food. However, these are still weapons of destruction and they must be registered with personal background checks. There is absolutely no need or reason for any person, other than law enforcement and the military to have assault weapons that are aimed to violently kill masses of people. We must compromise through common sense. We must understand and follow the true intent of our forefathers when they penned the second amendment to the Constitution. All it takes is the determination, the moral strength of our elected representatives, to enact tougher laws, so we can finally take back our country and make it a safe haven once again for every American man, woman, and child.

    Hezbollah weapons systems

Iranian-Hezbollah-Rocket More than 200 hundred rockets were fired from south Lebanon into Israel on Friday and Saturday adding up to over 1,000 over the past two weeks. The latest news on Hezbollah launched rockets is the use of a Khaibar-1 rocket, which hit on Saturday an open field near the town of Afulla in the Valley of Izrael. Hezbollah propaganda named the rocket "Khaibar," a historic-religious name deriving from the Battle of Khaibar in the Arabian Peninsula in the early years of Islam. The battle, was against a Jewish fortification, has become a symbol of resilience and of the superiority of Islam over Judaism. The Khaibar-1 is apparently one of the Iranian Fadjr family of artillery missiles. Iranian 240mm Rocket Launcher M 1985 It is important to analyze the basic characteristics of these weapon systems. The main factor related to the present conflict regards the rocket's maximum range and the type of warhead used. So far the Hezbollah have been using mainly short range rockets, fired either from a single launcher, often with an improvised timer enabling to aim the rocket towards a general direction and flight angle and then walk away from the launch site. Iranian 122mm-mrl-iran Various types of electronic timers, often with a simple modified alarm clock, do the rest. These rockets are an Iranian version, called Haseb, of the Russian 107mm Katyusha with a range of up to nine kilometers. Another way to launch the rockets is by using multiple launchers to create a salvo effect. Such launchers can be towed or mounted on jeeps, trucks etc. The war head (explosives) weighs eight kilograms. Iranian FADJR-2 Another artillery rocket type is the Arash 1 and 2, both based on Russian and Chinese models. This 122mm rocket has a range of 18 kilometers with a warhead weighing 18 kilograms. Here too the rocket can be launched from a single launch pad or in salvos from a multiple rocket launcher. Hezbollah uses this system mainly with a single launcher. Iranian FADJR-5 missile The second set of Iranian made rockets, believed to have been delivered to the Hezbollah in smaller numbers, is the Oghab, a 230mm rocket with a range of 45 kilometers and a warhead weighing 70 kilograms. Originally this rocket was designed to be carried and fired from special vehicles. However, they can also be fired from a single launching tube. In the same category is the Fadjr-3 230mm with a range of 45 kilometers and a warhead weighing 45 kilograms. It is believed that the simpler and lighter Fadjr-3 is the one used by the Hezbollah. It too can be mounted on a vehicle to be used as a multiple rocket launcher. The Oghab and the Fadjr-3 can cover northern Israel, including Haifa and Tiberias. To launch them the Hezbollah have to be as close as possible to the Israeli-Lebanese border. Iranian MRLS. missile-rockets The conflict will escalate if the Hezbollah have in their arsenal heavier rockets capable of covering a distance of 75 kilometers, carrying 190 kilograms of explosives; this rocket is the Fadjr-5 333mm. It is a larger rocket and therefore more difficult to move around. Originally it was designed for multiple rocket launchers. The last two heavy rockets are the Shahin-1 333mm with a range of 13 kilometers and a warhead of 190 kilograms and the Shahin-2 333mm with a 20-kilometer range and also a 190-kilogram warhead. Experts on artillery rockets note that to launch the long range and heavier rockets the Hezbollah would need an elaborate technical and logistical capability. If these rockets are launched it will almost certainly mean Iranian experts and their equipment are active in Lebanon.

Actually, the lake was a previous Colorado River reservoir and was formed when the Parker Dam was built between 1934 and 1938. History of gymnastics

: Initially, the man involved in hunting were exercising in stone throwing , the use of weapons, run, etc. , While those who lived by fishing, it would raise their skills on coupon and swimming. Many people naturally gave the gymnastics different meaning. The Chinese example complete normal physical exercises with a form of medical gymnastics. In ancient Greece was a real art on gymnastics, whose main characteristics were courtesy and harmony. With the spread of Greek culture, gymnastics began to be considered not just a simple exercise of the body, but a suitable tool for the development of the organism, combined with the development of thought, patriotic emotion and elegance. The games of ancient Romans had no relevance with Gymnastics, because they were aimed at demonstrating. Later Christianity gave the ideal care of the soul, and condemned as a deterrent against caring for the body. With the shift that occurred in the years of renaissance in the classic spirit of antiquity, appeared again to people's interest in the beauty and the value of life. So with the rise of humanism, educators has resumed their interest in gymnastics, aid workers and physicians, so that by the end of the 19 century to take exercise its present form. In 1959 Mercurialis wrote the book <> referring to the gymnastics of the ancient Greeks. One fan of gymnastics was Rousso, he thought that someone to operate as a virtuous need powerful body. The body said should be powerful enough to discipline to soul. As long as the body is weak, the more runs. As is more powerful discipline to soul. His ideas they accepted the same time, and many doctors, who have realised that the sedentary lifestyle and good life had bad results in the body. At the same time the prevalence of gymnastics and introduction to schools presented to the need for methods of physical training. Thus presented gymnastic three directions, German, English and Swedish.

    History of melayu

I was interested to find out more about the Malays. I pose myself this question always. “Where do I come from? or what is my calling in life”. Only when you know your past and take a closer look at the events of the past call history we may find the answers It’s intriguing after hours of reading and research I might add. So there might be parts to this entries. I’ll just start with the basic of the Malays, their origin Malays are seafaring people For the clueless, I hope you can differentiate Malays and Melayus. Malays is in English language while Melayu is in Malay language. We’re 99% entirely Islam with Malaysia with the most bulk of Malays around with 12 millions in population. Singapore has about 600,000 Malays in total. In fact our Malay roots are hotly contested and questioned these days as experts believe there’s no such race as Malays but we’re a new race that includes various ethnicity such as Thai, Orang Asli, Sabah and Sarawak indigenous people, Indian Muslims, Bugis, Bawean, Javanese, Thai and Achehnese. Our roots can be traced back to Yunnan, China. The Jakun are seafaring people. These sea tribes people probably expanded to coastal Borneo (Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei), then into Sumatra (Indonesia) and then the Malay Penisula (Malaysia, Singapore) The modern Singapore, Indons and Malaysians you see nowadays are infact the descendants of these Jakun mixed with modern Indian, Thai, Arab and Chinese blood. How cool is that. This is due to the Jakun nature of life trading and seafaring way of life throughout from China to Malay Penisula. So basically we’ve a upward migratory route from south to north, although our roots are traced back to Yunnan, China Shocking truth Well it does not matter we’re not a race of rich in history such as the Arabs or English, but we’re still a race. A new modern race trying to better oneself. It’s an interesting journey so far for me finding out about my race, the Malays.

    History of olmec civilisation

A History of Olmec Civilization. The first relatively modern awakening to the existance of the Olmecs was when plantation workers in 1862 came upon hat they thought was a large, buried, iron kettle. Upon further excavation, and driven by thoughts of buried treasure, they finally excavated a huge stone carved head, which turned out to be the first Olmec sculpture to be discovered in Mexico. OLMEC ORIGINS. Who were the Olmecs? What is known about them is that they preceded the Mayans in Mesoamaerica, and are thought to be the foundation of all subsequent cultures in that part of the Americas, though there is evidence of humans going back to 20,000 B. C. There will always be differing opinions when it comes to dates, but the Olmes are believed to have originated in around 1250 B. C. and disappeared around 400 B. C. A common feature with theirs and later civilisations were that they:- Followed a 365 day year. Built pyraminds. Cultivated corn. All had similar religious rituals and the same Gods of fertility, war, sky & nature. Regarding the thick-lipped Negroid features of their carvings, some researchers postulate that the Olmecs originally came from Africa, and indeed their language is very similar to that spoken today in Mali. Details of facial scaring & lines on Olmec statues also bear similarities to tribal marks found among the Yoruba peoples of West Africa. OLMEC LANDS. Their range of influence extended from the Tuxtlas mountains in the west, to Contalpa in the eastern Mexican lowlands, around the Gulf of Mexico area. The three largest Olmec cities were:- La Venta in Tabasco (the eastern sector), dominated the rich coastal estuaries, including the cocao, rubber & salt trade. San Lorenzo Tenochtitlan in Veracruz was at the center of the Olmec civilization, and an important political/religious center, which controlled the vast flood plains of the Coatzacoalco basin and river trade routes. The first drainage system in Mesoamerica was discovered there, consisting of channeled blocks of stone set into the earth, covered with slabs. Their region is also famous for the colossal basalt carved heads, weighing 20-40 tons each. Laguna de los Cerros, also in Veracruz, to the West, controlled the important basalt mines/mountains, important for the manufacture of Metates (stones for grinding food), & monuments. OLMEC ART. The Olmecs must have had a high regard for art as many cave paintings & huge stone scullptures have been found, along with jade artefacts & statues. Typical Olmec art featured jaguars, thick-lipped soldiers and goatee-bearded men and often a combination of jaguar and children. As they believed themselves to be descendants of the Jaguar, the animal was held in very high esteem, often featuring in religious ceremonies. Some of these huge carved stone heads have been found up to 100km away from the source of stone, leaving researchers still wondering exactly how they managed to transport such massive pieces those distances, though the most likeliest explanation must be that they floated them on barges down the extensive network of rivers. WORK & PLAY. Rubber was first exloited by the Olmecs and various carvings show ball games where the ball could be deflected off elbows, hips, knees and head, though using the hands was considered an illegal move. Initially, the Olmecs in the swampy tropical heartland lived a hunter-gatherer lifestyle, later spreading to outlying areas and developing agriculture and distinct political & economic hierarchies as wealth and commerce with outside people grew. RELIGION Olmec religion featured mainly worship of the Jaguar and Werejaguars (children with Jaguar features), though snake worship was popular too. They believed that the Jaguar was very closely associated with a person's spirit and that should the Jaguar die, the person would also die. In common with all religions, to maintain their position in society the Olmec ruling elite needed to make the people believe either that they were Gods or that they were associated with The Gods (Gods of Fire, Water, Earth & Sun were the popular deities). Their religion, symbolic language and archtictural systems seemed strong & popular enough to have lasted through to the Zapotecs, Teotihuacans and Mayan peoples, until everything changed with the Spanish conquests of Hernandez Cortez and Spanish influence. That of the Catholic Church being especially instrumental in destroying the old Gods and bringing a new one that eventually spread throughout the whole of South America. Some might argue that Catholicism brought about changes for good and others point to the great poverty of the majority of predominantly Catholic South America. Whatever your opinions, I will just leave you with this thought:- "Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as convenient." Seneca the Younger. (3 B. It was on January 1, 1776 that the Continental army was restructured and adjusted according to a Congressional resolution which heralded American forces to the command of George Washington. On that day, the American Continental Army was blockading Boston which had been taken over by the British army. It has been said that the first American flag was made in May of 1776 by Betsy Ross, a Philadelphia seamstress who was actually a friend of George Washington and acquainted with other prominent and high-ranking Philadelphians. Ross suggested that the five-pointed star be used instead of the star with six points. This is because the five-pointed star can be cut off easily with a few trims of the scissors. It is also said that Betsy Ross was the one who made the flags for the Pennsylvanian navy. However, the first unofficial flag of America was called the Grand Union Flag, also known as the Continental Colors. It was raised at the order and command of General Washington close to his headquarters outside Boston January 1, 1776. This first unofficial flag was composed of thirteen alternating white and red horizontal stripes, with the British Union Flag in the canton. However, the first official American flag was accepted by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. This flag was also known as the Stars and Stripes for it consisted of 13 stars which represented the first 13 colonies. However, there is no assurance of who actually designed and made this flag. It is said that it was Francis Hopkinson, a Continental Congress member, designed the flag. However, between 1777 and 1960, the Congress implemented procedures that varied its shape, design and structure of the flag. And it was decided that there was a need for additional starts to represent all the states of America. It was on January 3, 1959 that President Eisenhower issued an executive order which states that the arrangement of the stars should be in six horizontal rows of eight, each single point of every star directed upward. In 1791 and 1792, after Kentucky and Vermont were added to the Union, two stars and two stripes were added during 1795. This brought inspiration to lawyer Francis Scott Key to write and compose a poem which later became the U. S. National Anthem. It was in 1818 that five more states had been added and declared and the Congress decided to pass legislation that fixes the number of stars and stripes. The stars would have equal numbers as the states. On July 4, 1960, the last new star was added after Hawaii became a state, which gives a total number of fifty stars. The American Flag has been the emblem of the nation’s power and harmony for more than 200 years. It serves as the binding material that brings millions of citizens together in attaining one goal.

History of us consulate in chiang mai

The U. S. Consulate General Chiang Mai is a one of a quickly diminishing number of historic properties serving as diplomatic posts for the United States government overseas. In an era of non-descript office blocks, the Consulate evokes an earlier time of pergolas draped in riotous explosions of bougainvillea, the subtle scent of frangipani, and the gentle breeze of a slowly turning ceiling fan. Once the royal residence of the last prince of Northern Thailand, Chao Kaew Nawarat, the history of the Consulate allows its staff to justifiably say they work in a very special place. Previously known as the Chedi Ngarm, or Beautiful Pagoda Palace, the Consulate grounds have a number of distinct historic buildings, some over 100 years old. The first royal notable to take up residence was Chao Dara Rasmi, Princess Consort of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn, Rama V. In 1914, four years after the death of Rama V, Princess Dara Rasmi returned to her family home of Chiang Mai and resided in a teak house located within the compound. She later moved to another residence in the nearby village of Mae Rim and her brother Major General Chao Kaew Nawarat, the ninth and last Prince of the Northern Thai Lanna Chuen Jet Ton dynasty, moved into the royal compound. Prince Kaew Nawarat built a house on the grounds of the royal compound in 1923 as a wedding gift to his daughter Chao Siriprakai Na Chiengmai. In 1926 Princess Siriprakai’s home would host the visit of the ill-fated Majesty King Prapoklao, who was later deposed in 1934, and Queen Ram Pai Panni. Consulate staff and the sections of the consulate’s communications center presently occupy that residence. The happiness of the King and Queen’s visit would be soon forgotten in 1933 because of the death of Princess Dara Rasmi. Her coffin lay in state at the Chedi Ngarm Palace from December 1933 to April 1934. Later that same year, Prince Kaew Nawarat would replace the old teak residence with a new home, now the Consul General’s residence. The house, designed by an Italian architect, was built in the then popular Anglo-Burmese style. A Chinese-style sala, or pavilion was also built. The sala now serves as the waiting room and offices of the Consular section. Prince Kaew Nawarat was not able to enjoy his new home for long as he died in June 1939. His body lay in state in the sala from June to July 1939, in the same place that today’s applicants for visas and citizen services wait. The death of Prince Kaew Nawarat closed a chapter on the history of the royal residence. The government of Siam no longer recognized the semi-autonomous principality of northern Thailand, once part of the great kingdom of Lanna that had been founded in 1296 by King Mengrai. The central government established direct control from Bangkok and the Chedi Ngam property was sold to the Office of the Royal Crown Properties. In September 1, 1950, a new chapter of the history began with the signing by U. S. Ambassador Edwin F. Stanton and Thai Deputy Minister of Finance Sawet Piamphongsarn of a lease for Chedi Ngarm Palace and grounds. The Consulate still maintains its lease with the Office of Royal Crown Properties. Through the diligent efforts of Consul Harlen Y. M. Lee (in office from 1982-1985), the Consulate became a Consulate General in 1986 and it continued its close association with Thai royalty. In January 2003, the Consulate had the privilege to host the visit of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn. With Foreign Service life requiring constant moving from post to post and the growing homogeneity of the mission buildings, few Foreign Service officers gain any sense of attachment to or appreciation for the offices in which they work. At the U. S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai, the beauty and history of the classic teak buildings serve as a reminder of how fortunate the Consulate staff is to work in a former royal residence.

Hooray for flag day why do we celebrate it on june 14

What are the important dates in American Flag history? • January 1, 1776, George Washington ordered the Grand Union flag hoisted above his base at Prospect Hill. It had 13 alternating red and white stripes and the British Union Jack (no stars) in the upper left-hand corner. • May of 1776, Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag. • June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress passed the first Flag Act that stated that the new flag of the United States be made of thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen white stars in a blue field. • Between 1777 and 1960, Congress passed several acts that changed the shape, design and arrangement of the flag and allowed for additional stars and stripes to be added to reflect the admission of each new state. • May of 1795, 2 additional stars and stripes were added for the states of Vermont & Kentucky for a total of 15 stripes and 15 stars. This is the only American flag that began with a white stripe at the top of the flag. • April 4, 1818, this act provided for 13 stripes and one star for each state, to be added to the flag on the 4th of July following the admission of each new state, signed by President Monroe. The following states were added on July 4th for the following years: o 1818 - Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Indiana, Mississippi, 20 total stars o 1819 – Illinois, 21 total stars o 1820 – Alabama, Maine, 23 total stars o 1822 – Missouri, 24 total stars o 1836 – Arkansas, 25 total stars o 1837 – Michigan, 26 total stars o 1845 – Florida, 27 total stars o 1846 – Texas, 28 total stars o 1847 – Iowa, 29 total stars o 1848 – Wisconsin, 30 total stars o 1851 – California, 31 total stars o 1858 – Minnesota, 32 total stars o 1859 – Oregon, 33 total stars o 1861 – Kansas, 34 total stars o 1863 – West Virginia, 35 total stars o 1865 – Nevada, 36 total stars o 1867 – Nebraska, 37 total stars o 1877 – Colorado, 38 total stars o 1890 – North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Washington, Idaho, 43 total stars o 1891 – Wyoming, 44 total stars o 1896 – Utah, 45 total stars o 1908 – Oklahoma, 46 total stars o 1912 – New Mexico, Arizona, 48 total stars • June 24, 1912, by order of President Taft, proportions of the flag were established that provided for arrangement of the stars in six horizontal rows of eight each, a single point of each star to be upward. • January 3, 1959, by order of President Eisenhower, the flag arrangement was changed to stars in seven rows of seven stars each, staggered horizontally and vertically. This arrangement allowed for Alaska, admitted on July 4, 1959, 49 total stars. • August 21, 1959, by order of President Eisenhower, the flag arrangement was changed to stars in nine rows of stars staggered horizontally and eleven rows of stars staggered vertically. This arrangement allowed for Hawaii, admitted on July 4, 1960, 50 total stars. What do the colors of red, white and blue stand for on the American Flag? Today the flag consists of thirteen horizontal stripes, seven red alternating with 6 white. The stripes represent the original 13 colonies, the stars represent the 50 states of the Union. The colors of the flag are meaningful as well: Red stands for Hardiness and Valor, White stands for Purity and Innocence and Blue stands for Vigilance, Perseverance and Justice.

    How freshwater cultured pearls began

Pearls are produced by mollusks, mussels or oysters belonging to the Unionidae family. Saltwater pearls are produced by oysters in the ocean, while freshwater pearls come from mussels growing in lakes, rivers or ponds other than the ocean. These mollusks create a substance called nacre when an irritant object enters its shell. The nacre will wrap around the object until it is covered with this iridescent substance, and the resulting gem is known today as a pearl. Maybe you have heard of the term natural pearls and cultured pearls. Natural pearls are created without human intervention, while cultured pearls are produced by a process where man will introduce a foreign object inside the mollusks' shell, and harvests it after nacre coating. Due to over fishing, the pearls produced the natural way are very rare. Most pearls that you can find in the market today are already cultured. Have you ever wondered how freshwater cultured pearls began? Thousands of years ago, most pearls came exclusively from the ocean. However, not all oysters have produced a pearl inside. In a harvest of three tons, only about three or four oysters can produce a perfect pearl. That is why the pearls at that time were outrageously expensive. So scientists thought of a way to culture pearls, and they found out that if they will pry open the shell of the mussel, introduce a very small object (like a bead or a metal), then return the mussel in the water, it will also coat the object with nacre and produce a pearl. The first cultured pearls actually originated in Japan, with pearl farmers experimenting with freshwater mussels in Lake Biwa which is a lake near Kyoto. Their initial harvest appeared around 1930s. Instantly, the freshwater pearl became a big hit! The luster and color looked almost the same as the natural pearls, but the prices are lower and the supply is continuous. Unfortunately there was a slump in the production of pearls during World War II, but in the 1950s they were back again in the market. Because of its success, almost all of the supplies for the global market came from the lake. In fact, some people already call freshwater pearls as "Biwas" referring to the lake where it originated. This went on until 1973. But there were warning signs of slow production due to the resorts, farms and industries that were developed surrounding the lake. Soon the pearl farms in Biwa were barely surviving due to the pollution from industrial modernization. Then there came a time when no more pearls can be cultured in this lake. Added to that was Japanese disadvantage of not having a big lake or river to shift their production, and this was coupled with a smaller workforce. Because of this, China saw the opportunity to culture freshwater pearls. Indeed, they began to flood the market with abundant pearls, having good quality and inexpensive too! The Chinese pearl farmers have also learned to develop and perfect cultured pearl with increased size and improved luster. Now they are the biggest supplier of the worldwide demand for freshwater pearls.

How the chinese communist party exerts and maintains control

The Chinese government is currently a one party system ruled by the Chinese Communist Party. There will never be another party in control under the current system. The people have no options for a governing body. Having one choice is having no choice. When a single group controls the executive, judicial and legislative branches of a government, there are no checks and balances. Without checks and balances, the CCP may act with impunity. As truly courageous lawyers in China have pointed out, the CCP dictates verdicts and rulings to the judiciary. This is not a valid mechanism for justice. Torture is a method of control. The Clearwisdom website does an outstanding job of covering the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. Some of the torture methods utilized by law enforcement and security agents under the CCP include beatings, hanging by wires that cut to the bone, electric shock torture with electric batons, and exposure to extreme temperatures. Many other forms of torture have also been documented. Groups like Freedom House, Amnesty International and even the United States government also report on the practices utilized by those working for the Chinese Communist Party. Just as those brave lawyers have pointed to the CCP's control of the judiciary, it is hard to believe the CCP isn't behind the torture utilized by its employees. Yet, they vehemently deny anything is happening to the rest of the world. In order to exert its totalitarian control, the CCP must have complete access to personal information. To do business in China, foreign corporations will help the CCP by turning over information from private email accounts, chat room conversations and other information. The CCP will use this information to make an 'arrest'. The victim disappears either temporarily or permanently. Whether anyone hears what happens next is a dice roll. It is becoming increasingly difficult for the CCP to hide from the world what they do to people who speak out in favor of justice, democracy and basic freedoms. The Chinese Communist Party's secrets cannot always remain hidden. History has shown us time and time again that those who commit or permit extreme evil will be called to task, even if it takes decades. The long arm of universal justice will not be thwarted forever. Exposing this information may help the atrocities end sooner.

How to create a winning political campaign sign

Campaign signs may not look much but they are often the most effective area of your political campaign. The visibility of your campaign signs gives you exposure like no other media can; taking you into homes you would not get into otherwise. The important question though is how to create winning signs. Quantity vs. Quality There are plastic signs, and then there are paper signs, and plastic coated paper signs. Paper signs are cheaper and yet they are also easily ruined by rain or bad weather, so are they worth the funds you spend on them? Plan with your weather conditions in mind; you can use plastic coated paper signs, those are easily readable and stand the test of weather better, but then again, plastic signs can work for you too. They are relatively expensive and they can get hard to read after being exposed to bad weather but if you are ordering in a large quantity, plastic campaign signs can do the job. For once, quantity wins over quality; give yourself as much exposure as you can manage. What makes the Cut? A lot can be said on a campaign sign, and why not is what most people ask; there is space on it! Before you decide what you want on the sign, work out the basics of visual effect and retention of the message. Colors Matter Decide the colors of your political campaign sign with care. You may love white but will it work? Consider it a bad option in winter; would it stand out against the natural background with snow around? Surely not. Contrasting colors work very well but be sure to not mix your color with your opponent’s; if your campaign signs look the same it is bound to confuse voters. Oh I look great! There is something about photographs that makes people associate with you, they know you by face and a good image can really boost your campaign. But then again, if you have your picture on your campaign banner it is more likely to distract the voters from reading your name, or checking your election icon. They do not have photographs on the ballot paper, unfortunately, will your voter remember the name of the great looking guy on the banner? Everyone Knows the Name That’s exactly the point. You want your campaign sign to get your voters to know you. Make yourself a household name people will recognize. Most people miss the trick with the names. It is vital that you promote it well and make sure you distinguish yourself from your opponents. Make your surname stands out and keep it bigger than the first name, or put it in block letters or in bold…you get the picture. Political Party Affiliations Your affiliations matter, they tell people of your ideals and as such, when the election is about jurisdictions where political affiliations matter, it is good to mention what party you are from. It is also important to know when not to mention political affiliations though. That would be when you know your party is not popular in an area, when it can work against you, yes, overlooking to mention the simple things can help. Slogans Have you tried reading roadside signs while driving by? It is hazardous to try and it is probably a useless exercise you should not indulge in. The shorter you keep your campaign sign the better it would be. Make sure to get your identity across, political slogans and such can be restricted to places where you know people will stop and have time to read more. Strategic locations such as around schools where parents come to pick up children etc. work well. Your Constituency People can get to know you through your name and that you are running in the elections, but make sure to tell them what you are running for. Mention if you are running for the local town council or the mayor’s position or even congress but be brief, people do not want to know if it is the 20th council or the 205th, just guide the vote in. Use Icons It is the information age after all, use icons instead of slogans, and why not? People do recognize the major political parties with their icons, and they are those who have spent millions on campaigning so they use the most effective and time tested methods, watch and learn! Your political campaign signs are a way of presenting your candidature to the voters, you can present it within the laws or you can push them too, but remember that a politician who does not show respect for the law can easily lose respect of the voter too. Stay within legal limits; do not forget to include the disclaimer printed on your campaign signs as to who paid for them. And finally, make the posting of your signs a public relations campaign. The more people you convert during this stage the more votes you are likely to land.

How to sell timeshare for the most profits

Timeshare selling can be a advantageous business. Timeshare on a property such as that of a condo, vacation resorts, yachts, houseboats or motor homes can be a financial exchange as well. An owner who owns time share can sell it to other like-minded buyers. One reason why someone would want to make a decision onto selling his timeshare is they may not be able to use it at that given time and it was already paid for by him. So as to not go through a fiscal loss, he’ll compensate for it by letting somebody else use it – and that someone will be paying him instead. To alleviatethe illegal re-selling of timeshare, it is best that the parties involved comprehend exactlythe terms of their transaction. First of all, one must know what kind of timeshare the person you're dealing with actually owns.. The different types of time shares are: 1. Fixed week ownership The most common timeshare unit. Example: Fourth of July Holiday is always in the peak period.. If you own this particular week at an often-visited resort, you can use it every year to your advantage. 2. Floating Ownership is the number of weeks. Example: Weeks 22 to 36. 3. Rotating If the time share has many owners, the weeks that are often most demanded such as week 26 which normally includes the Fourth of July holiday will be shared among them. 4. Deeded and Right to Use The utilization of timeshare in deeded contracts is often divided into weeks and are sold as if they were real property. Consequently, the owner can do whatever he chooses to with his week – he can use it, rent it out, give it to those who are requesting for it or make it an inheritance to his heirs. As for right to use, the person who buys the timeshare must use the property with what is stated on his contract. 5. Vacation Clubs These are organizations owning units in various resorts in different locations. They are sold as deeded contracts, as well as right to use. So, club members can make reservations at any time at the locations as long as it is available. So, if you are going to sell your timeshare, you have to tell buyers all the information they need to know. Discuss it clearly with them. An option is to ask forthe help of Timeshare Resale Services. They have programs which will place advertisements in for you. They call these as “Ad-Listing.” As the owner, you need to have an exposure. That is exactly what those Timeshare Resale Services provide. With Ad-Listings, your timeshare is made securable to the interest of other resale companies, rental companies and most importantly, potential buyers. You could also hope that they hold an auction for your timeshare. Usually, Timeshare Resale Services conduct auctions each week, assuming most timeshare owners can not always use their week at that given point. With Timeshare Resale Service’s marketing campaign, you'll reach a larger marketwill be made aware of what you are selling. Their campaign covers newspapers, yellow pages, magazines, radio and even direct mail. Most recently the net is also being used to announcethe recent selling of timeshare. Finally, you must be aware whenever your timeshare is being evaluated. Like yourself, you must know how much your timeshare is worth. Some timeshare resale companies say that your timeshare is worth more than it really is and charge you way too much.. The strategy is selling your timeshare week for less than what the resort is selling. Mark it down around 20 to 50%. Or if you’re up to it, you can just not sell it and donate it to charity. As a consequence it will reflect a write off on your tax return. If you want, you can also exchange it in for another timeshare week at a different resort. You can actually trade what you have for something better. Like what is mentioned earlier, timeshare is a business. Just like any business, you always, have to be very savy..
