Laughing at the indian cricket team

: Indian cricket is headed for a disastrous World Cup and only those who wish to bury their head in the sand can think that they will do well there. The pitches in West Indies are fast and the players (who anyway have a tough time on such pitches) will succumb easily. They will advance (I truly hope so) to the next round by beating the weak teams but they will lose once again to the strong ones and they will find ourselves out and forgotten very soon. So instead of feeling sad, the only thing left for the fans to do is to joke about them. So here goes! The story goes that there was a couple married for quite some time and they had a boy of 5-6 years old. Their relationship was turning sour. So finally it reached such a stage that they thought it was better for them to be divorced than to carry on such a relationship. So they consulted a lawyer. But the big question was who would have the kid. In the hearing in the court it was decided that this choice should be left to their son. So the judge asked "Son, would you like to stay with your mummy?" The kid replied," No, mummy beats me." So the judge asked "Then, would you like to stay with your papa?" The kid replied, "No, papa beats me too." Now the judge was in a dilemma and was not able to decide what to do. After pondering for some time he smiled with the ideas he had in his mind about the child. And he gave the judgment that the kid would stay with Any guesses? Come on I know you can guess this. Ok here is the decision: The judge decided that the kid would stay with the Indian Cricket Team because they never beat anybody. And here are some one liners to pipe up your day: Why do Indian babies cry and complain all the time? They are practicing how to become Indian cricketers when they grow up. What is an handcuffed Indian Cricketer called? A cricketer you can trust. What are the four words that will destroy any Indian batsman? Did you bat today? Why doesnt the crowd blink when Tendulkar goes out to bat? There just is no time until he gets out again. What is the difference between an Indian batsman and an Australian one? 100 runs. What is the difference between batteries and Indian cricketers? Batteries have a positive side. How do you force Indian cricketers to run between wickets? You place food on either end. Yes, I know that some of these jokes are really putting the Indian team down but considering their recent form (excluding the recent two victories against West Indies which I think is more of a fluke than anything else), I felt that I could say such things. I cannot understand how such players such as Ganguly, Tendulkar, Dravid and the rest can let the fans down time and again. Sometimes it seems that they are not really interested in playing and that they gamble away their wicket easily. If that is the case then they should leave and let other more able and willing youngsters take a shot. They will not fare much worse in any case. What will they do? Lose. They lose anyway and to any cricket playing nation in the world!

Laughter use it to pick up women

Humour, some say, is the fruit of life, and this is especially true when it comes to picking up on a girl no matter where the location. Make them laugh, and I guarantee, that you are very close to getting their phone number and even to getting them to go out with you. But, as we all know, making them laugh, is easier said than done. Precisely for those who find it difficult to come up with something funny to say, I am adding some funny anecdotes and wise cracks that you can memorize and then use in those situations where you need to get the girl in front of you to laugh. 1) The Prescription: Did you hear of the lady, who walked into the pharmacist and asked for arsenic? The man behind the counter asked in wonder, "What do you need that for? The lady calmly replied," to kill my husband." The pharmacist was taken aback," Are you crazy? Do you want to get us both into jail? And, anyway, why do you want to kill him? Go to a counselor. Get help for your marriage." The lady paused and from her purse she removed a set of pictures of her husband and the wife of the pharmacist in some very creative postures. The pharmacist looked at the snaps, put them down and smiled," lady, why did you not tell me that you have a prescription?" 2) The Tip Book A wife calls out to her husband, "Have you seen the book, 101 Tips to Live for More Than a Hundred Years? The husband sheepishly replies, "I burnt it." "What?" the wife shouted out," why?" The husband whispered back," Because your mother wanted to read it." 3) Range of Food Looking at his wife fry meat balls in all kinds of shapes and sizes, Tom tapped her on the shoulder, "Why?" His wife turned," Because you asked for a variety of food." 4) Mushrooms Tom was picking mushrooms from the forest floor with his wife, when she picked up one and showed it to Tom," Is this for eating?" Tom smiled," Yes. As long as you do not cook it." 5) Driving Around Tom greeted his wife when she returned home," So, my dear, how was your first time driving all alone?" His wife smiled coyly, "Do you want to hear it from me or read about it in the papers? 6) Drama A couple are watching a film in their local theater when the wife snuggles close to her husband and points to the screen," Do you think that they will get married in the end?" The husband sighs," Yes. These movies always have bad endings." 7) The Library Tom visited the local library, walks up to the librarian and asks, "Do you know where I can find the book, the Supremacy of Men over Women?" The librarian conducts a short search on the computer and looks up," you will be able to find it in the science fiction." Conclusion: While some of these might sound offensive, if you use them well you will be able to display not just a sense of humour, but also that you are exactly the opposite of the stereotype. How? Immediately, after you done, lean over and whisper, But I am not like that, and if you allow me to take you out, you will see that for yourself.

Life advice a lost friend speaks

When my friend sensed that in a few weeks the light of life was about to be extinguished, and that there was no more hope for him, he called me to his side and said, "If only I had lived my life differently, I might not have felt such an emptiness now. Promise me," he caught my hand, "Promise me that you won't make the same mistake." And when I asked him what mistakes, he asked me to get a pen and paper and to jot down his last words. Here they are in condensed form: 1) Talk less; listen more. 2) Listen to your grandfather's stories about his youth. When he's gone, you will relive the bond through these memories. 3) Invite friend over for a snack or dinner even if the house is a mess. 4) Eat popcorn in the living room even though its messy. 5) Invite the friends who have children home. Don't worry about their children creating a mess. 6) Sit on the grass even though it dirties your pants. 7) Never buy something just because it lasts for a long time or because it is practical. 8) Stay in bed and at home when sick and stop pretending that the world cannot go one without me for a day. 9) Light up the wonderfully crafted candles and let them burn out. Better this than they accumulate dust in the closet. 10) Share life's responsibilities with a partner, not only expenses. 11) (Meant for Women) Instead of waiting for the pregnancy to get over, cherish each moment in your heart. Understand that the life in you is the only chance you will get to help god create magic. 12) Let your children hug and kiss you whenever they wish to. Don't stop them by saying things like: later, go wash your hands first, we have to eat dinner. 13) Say the following two phrases as often as possible: "I love you" and "I am sorry." 14) Stop worrying about who loves or and who doesn't or about what others have or don't have. 15) Cherish all personal human relations. 16) Play with a pet every day. Laugh and run with it and take part in all its antics. 17) Spend more time with the people who love you. 18) Stop sweating because of all the small details and problems of life. 19) Grab every moment, look at it and live it. That moment will never return again. Her name was Susan, and she had one six year old daughter. Susan taught me these few basic ideals that I have tried to follow in honour of her memory. It has made me a better man, a much nicer husband and in general, a happier person. Even now I can hear her say that God has blessed each and every one of us, and that we should accept these blessings and strive to become stronger both physically, mentally and also emotionally. I will always remember what she said to me the last time we met: "Jack, you are lucky. Don't blow it."

Life advice looking through a window

Living in today's metropolitan world of cellular phones, mobile computers and other high-tech gadgets is not just hectic but very impersonal. We make money and then invest our time and effort in making more money. Does it end? Not usually because we are never satisfied. How many times have we convinced ourselves that if only we had some more money, life would be so sweet? But then, after receiving a substantial raise, we realize that it wasn't enough and that we need more? What Should You Do? I have read many books on life such as Robin Sharma's Monk says this and the monk says that, and they all seem to say that money is not necessary. But it is. Can you do without cash and a lot of it? I know I can't. So, I went to the neighbourhood Rabbi and asked for advice that will help me find my true way in life. The rabbi nodded and took me to the window. "What do you see?" he asked me. Promptly, I answered, "I can see people walking to and fro and a blind man is begging for alms at the left corner." The Rabbi nodded and guided me to a big mirror. "Now look and tell me what you see?" "I can see myself," I man answered. The Rabbi smiled. "Now you can't see anyone else. The mirror and the window are both created from the same raw material: glass, but because on one of them they have applied a thin layer of silver, when you look at it all you can see is your own reflection." The Rabbi placed his arm on my shoulders. "Compare yourself to those two pieces of glass. Without the silver layer, you saw the other people and felt compassion for them. When you are covered with silver, you see only yourself." I looked at the Rabbi and stared. "I don't understand." The Rabbi continued. "You will become someone only if have the courage to remove the silver covering over your eyes in order to again see and love others." He patted me on my back and sent me on my way. I have thought of what he said and come to the conclusion that he had a point. Yes. We need money and we should not aim to lead a moneyless existence; its pointless and will only cause us and our families many heartbreaks in the future. Instead, I suggest that we should follow the advice the Rabbi gave me. When we approach life through a silver covering, all we are able to see is ourselves. But discard that covering, and you will be able to see and feel everyone else. Conclusion: In life, we are allowed to and should be able to look at both kinds of mirrors, but we should remember that a mirror reflects only us; a window is the door to compassion, health and true wealth. In other words, seek wealth by all means, but don't let it dissuade you from life, people, children and the poor and needy.

Live poker how to win tournament games

: Now, if you are interested in being the best player, getting really good money and knowing some tricks and advices of what to do in a live tournament games, here is the best place to learn them. 1) Try not to get drunk Some of the people that are playing, and that have few rounds to play in the tournament don't count the drinks they have during their games and at the very end of the day they don't have power to continue till the last game, which is a pity to loose such a big opportunity, so, don't drink a lot and be prepare for the last round, also come up with all your senses in order. If you drink, do it measurable and just to loose the nerves before the games but also have some other drinks like soda, water, coffee and others to hydrate your self. 2) Is it important where I sit? Yes it is, in a tournament try not to sit next to the dealer, take a place in where you will feel that you are in front of the dealer to have the feeling that he is giving you a game. Also in a place where you will feel comfortable with your self and you will have a perspective of the other players. 3) Make your self comfortable while playing Don't show the other players with your position what you cards are telling you. Make sure to seat back and relax, don't adopt positions that will make you move too much or feel uncomfortable during the time of the game. Some players in the tournaments show their game with the position they adopt while playing either putting the elbows on the table or resting in the bumper. 4) Do the most important thing in the brake. Don't get distracted from what you really need to do in the brake. Take your time to go to the bathroom and rest, sometimes the discussions about the previous game or lines for getting drinks will waste your time for what is really important. 5) Also your words and mimic are important during the game. When ever you are playing don't show your cards to the other player in the way you talk or look, is important that they will have other impression, for example in your hand Is good you can try on making faces or saying words that show that your hand is not good, then people will think you have a bad game and you will surprise them at the end. This doesn't work all the time so try to find different ways to hide your game. Also you can read the other player's movements and words to see either they are lying or telling the truth in the hand. Conclusion: Ok, right now you are equipped with the best advices from the experienced card players at Live Tournament Games, then just bring all your energies and talent to the tournaments. If you are looking for fun and you don't have friends around to play with, remember that there is always a way to play by your self, you will be always welcome at online casinos so go there is you like to gain some practice for your gaming skills.

Live poker pros and cons of participating in a tournament

: If you have had enough of playing poker with friends or with playing it online and winning some money and then losing some money to only win that money back again, then you have reached the stage in your poker playing experience where you need to start entering live tournaments. That is the real deal. No more long hours in front of the computer, no more feeling guilty for taking your friends' money: you are now ready to turn pro. But, before you do, here are a few things you must consider: 1) One of the big differences of playing in a tournament is that you need to pick you hands carefully. Spend most of your time throwing your cards away at the right beginning. If you see that your cards won't amount to much, fight the urge to exchange most of them, and just hand them all in. This is what most tournament players do anyway. If you don't believe me, watch the others play. 2) Money you take with you to tournaments lasts for a much lengthier period than when playing with friends or online. This is one of the advantages of not playing every hand you are dealt. (Hint: You should do the same thing when playing with friends even though that then becomes boring.) 3) Do not sit to the left of the dealer. Ensure that there are at least two players between the dealer and the players to the left. Why? Only the first 2 players seated on the left of the dealer have to place the ante. Since, most of the tournaments involve ten players on each table, you save this much each time you play. This also means that each hand that you fold will mean that you have spent only half that of the lower limit. This amounts to three dollars in a two to four dollar rake tournament. 4) Take into consideration that the mere fact that you are away from home means that you will spend money on food and drinks. Try and get your own, but in any case keep it light. 5) Tournament dealers are not paid much, and so it' general practice to give them about three percent of whatever you win. Consider that all gambling halls and poker rooms also take a certain percentage but at least this comes from the money you win and so you don't feel it. 6) One of the other advantages of playing in a tournament is that you can use more money than you had. For instance, for a hundred dollar sit-in, many casinos and poker rooms will give you about five hundred in tournament chips to bet with. 7) If high odds and high risk is not what you are looking for you can take advantage of the late night satellite tournaments. These generally begin at one in the morning and since the number of players won't be high, you stand a bigger chance of winning. Conclusion: Playing poker requires tremendous skill as well as come luck. While you cannot depend on luck, improve your skills and your online casino or other kind of betting account will show a profit.

    Lobbying 101

Lobbying 101 What is Lobbying? Lobbying, quite simply, is: –noun 1.an entrance hall, corridor, or vestibule, as in a public building, often serving as an anteroom; foyer. 2.a large public room or hall adjacent to a legislative chamber. 3.a group of persons who work or conduct a campaign to influence members of a legislature to vote according to the group's special interest. – verb (used without object) 4.to solicit or try to influence the votes of members of a legislative body. – verb (used with object) 5.to try to influence the actions of (public officials, esp. legislators). 6.to urge or procure the passage of (a bill), by lobbying. Many people with whom I correspond on forums and message boards profess to hate lobbyists and "special interests" and their influence in state and national government. However, anyone who has signed a petition, been involved in a demonstration, paid union dues, or written a letter to a legislator has been involved in lobbying. Like it or not. Legislators are incredibly busy people. And, as a result many do not get the chance to hear what the people want from their government. That's where the lobbyist comes in. His job is to get the client's message across. If the client has a bill he or she wants to get passed into law, it is the lobbyist's job to explain the benefits of the bill to the legislators, find an author for the bill, ask for each legislator's support, and babysit the bill through the legislative process. Contrary to popular belief, lobbyists as a whole are not shady, evil individuals. Yes, there are some who are entirely unethical and give the rest a bad name, but, for the most part, lobbyists are doing a job. In Oklahoma, where I live, the state Ethics Commission has strict rules for what a lobbyist can and cannot do. Woe to the lobbyist who does not abide by those rules. Lobbying is a vital part of the legislative process. It allows legislators to make more educated decisions before voting on issues that will affect YOU! For more information, or if you just have questions, please feel free to visit my website at S. E.G. Group, LLC and use the contact area. To be continued...... Shawn Garza is president of S. E.G. Group, LLC, a lobbying and legislative consulting firm in Oklahoma City, OK.

Manifestation of corruption

The freedom of choice is the key aim of any democratic state and this principle has been developing fro ages. The person is forced, by circumstances or by desires, to make a choice between what is right and what is easy. Nowadays it is not difficult to pick an easy way and never regret about the consequences, though that are not favorably impressing. Good and evil are the two sides of one pole that keep the universe in movement. A misbalance may brig a lot of matters onto the surface that are more than shocking. An average individual is subjected to stress, various social interactions that can either carry a positive experience, or misleading conclusions and they put together force people to make decision that are easy but not right. A common thing nowadays that leads to another wave of stress and nightmares. In the English language a linguist may find a good word, that correspond best to the state of things that are described with fear nowadays. This word is corruption and the definitions of it vary. The first is the state of decay, decomposition of any live matter on the Earth. Politicians, economists and other representatives define it implantation of illegal ways into the solid system for personal gain. There are so many manifestations of corruption that it is rather difficult to group them. The main are bribery, embezzlement, extortion, nepotism and other ways to corrupt the generally accepted system. Bribery is a crime that involves the offer or acceptance of money or other valuable matters in order to influence or take in control the sequence of actions involving the person that is in public duty. Embezzlement is the falsified ownership of property without the former agreement with the owner. Extortion is a criminal offense, which involves extortion money by threatening the subject by harming him, his property or the range of his acquaintances. Nepotism involves the favor of relatives and other close individuals in public matters. These types of corruption are more or less present in any independent state, regardless their political regime and religious believes. There are no existing ways to exclude corruption from the system. There are still public scientists working on special features of this social phenomenonmon sense is most likely to betray when there is a possibility to become wealthier and more powerful. There are some actions taken to bring up good citizen, but nothing can go against human nature but the very soul and heart.

Marriage counseling using games to reduce tension

Marriage is one of the most enjoyable but also one of the most painful experiences that people undergo. It carries with it the whiff of romance and eternal bliss, but sometimes you get a pack of thorns instead. How Do You Ensure Your Marriage Is a Bed of Roses and not Thorns? One of the major ingredients that a happy marriage needs is a willingness to compromise. But that is much more difficult than it seems. Everyone will agree that they need to compromise, but what happens when the issue is not a simple and tiny one? What then? Who Compromises first? I am sure you must have said to yourself at one point or another that enough is enough. You will no longer be the patsy. You are an independent person and your partner has crossed the line. Maybe. Maybe your relationship has died and you are just beginning to realize it. Maybe your sentiments are more passionate than romantic. Maybe you no longer love her. Stop being a fool! What if I told you that the solution to your marital strife is not divorce. Am I mad? Look around. How many divorces do you know? Plenty. Me too. But are they really happier off? What is the first thing that a divorced person does? He or she goes out and starts looking for partners. Isn't that strange? No. You say that everybody needs somebody to love. Maybe. I say that they had that somebody and they just let them go. So please stop being foolish. Why not tackle your problems with a simple suggestion? A Game. Games as a Peace Maker: Playing brings out the child in us and causes us to express more than we normally would. We also release bottled up frustration and let go of mental thorns in our outbursts of joy and anguish as we win or lose. Games unite people together and therefore I suggest playing together but if you wish one can play against the other. The game turns into a battle but only this time, after its over, you will both feel refreshed from losing all that bottled up pain and anger. Games to Pick From: Try picking games that both of you like or at least somewhat active ones. You could even play hide and seek in the house or something else. If you do prefer playing cards, pick a game which does not go on for long and which requires some thinking like hearts, poker, bridge or rummy. Keep score and determine before hand that the loser has to do something for the winner. Chores is not a prize for the winner! If you lose you have to do something that that the other person wants for themselves like give them their favorite massage or cook them their favorite meal. Conclusion: Games are a welcome ambrosia to love and will excite you as a couple to disregard all your frustrations and anger and deal only with the good. The anger and frustrations will not magically disappear, but now you can deal with them together calmly and in a good mood.

    Masaru emoto

Masaru Emoto is a Japanese scientist. He puts words on bottles of water and then freezes the water. After that, he lets the water warm itself. Then he hired a photographer to check under a microscope the crystal structures of the water. He claimed that putting good words on the water, like thank you, or love, would result in good crystal formation. On the other hand, putting bad words on the bottles, like “I hate you” will produce bad crystal formation. You can search for Masaru Emoto on the web, or read more about him in wikipedia. According to Masaru, the words we use are natural and somehow interact psychically with the water. Hence, the water retains memory. Followers of Masaru suggest that we shouldn’t tell ourselves that we’re stupid. Less, it’ll change the structure of water in our body and make us really stupid. When I first saw the pictures of it, I was quite surprised. Part of me thinks that this couldn’t be true. However, being a businessman for so many years stopped me from just diminishing this extraordinary finding. So, I looked him up on the web. You should check out this page: en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Masaru_Emoto It turns out, just like many conclusions made by those believing in spiritual stuffs, the method of the experiment is not robust. In particular, the photographers knew before hand which water has good words in it and which water does not. Hence, it is possible that Masaru got his result even though there is no causal effect whatsoever between the words and crystal structure. How? Well, there are plenty of crystals in the water. That’s pretty obvious. A photographer that knows before hand and expect “good” crystal will pick the beautiful crystal from the positive water. The photographer that knows before hand that the words are negative, like “I hate you” then he’ll simply photograph the bad crystal. Now, that seems like a much more plausible explanation. James Randi, a skeptic, offers Masaru $1 million dollars if he can perform his experiments with double blind tests that would solve the original problem. So far, Masaru still promotes his idea ignoring Randi’s pleas. The scientific part of me says that Masaru’s work is total bullshit. However, the businessmen parts of me see that it is indeed significant. Just like there are many crystals in the water, there are plenty of potential events in our life. You see, just like the positive-thinking photographers pick the beautiful crystal to photograph, in the same way, thinking positively will put our attention to potentially good events in our life. Just like the photographers turn the beautiful crystals into permanent photographs, the same way, we positive-thinking people put potentially good events into profits and fortunes. This is just another proof how positive thinking works. So think positively, but judge facts skeptically.

Maya of the new world the power of perception and suggestion

An introduction to Maya : In the holy hindu book-the Bhagvad Gita – Lord Krishna (one of the supreme gods of the Hindu pantheon) contemplates that the world is Maya (A Sanskrit word literally meaning “Illusion”). Lord Krishna gave this discourse since encapsulated as the Bhagvad Gita on the battlefield of Kurukshetra when his protйgй Arjun was depressed at the prospect of having to kill his cousins and relatives during the Mahabarata War. Thousands of religious Hindu scholars ever since those ancient times have been interpreting the “Bhagvad Gita” and trying find ways of explaining what the Lord Krishna meant by “Maya”. The commonest of all religious interpretation is that the real world is an “illusion” we should be prepared to go to the so called “otherworld” and because the real world is an “illusion” we should be detached from the happenings of this world thus encouraging penitence and sacrifice. While I am no religious scholar I now lay claim to explaining “Maya” to the current generation and what it can mean for us in the world business. “Maya” although in its real literary translation is illusion – as when caused by hypnosis, magic and other esoteric methods, the meaning of “Maya” can be considered to be a state of “apparent reality” – you think and true believe that this is the reality without making an attempt to understand the “actual” reality. And the common belief of an entire population or a group of people on this “apparent reality” makes us believe in the “Maya” of this world. This difference between “actual” and “apparent” is alteration. So what you believe to be true is not true but the reality has been altered to make the apparent visible and actual hidden. So how do we achieve this state of “altered reality” – for thousands of years leaders of societies have been using “Perception” and “Suggestion” as means of achieving this “altered” reality. In this context “Perception” is your belief of the reality achieved through your cognition of the outer world through interpretation of messages available to you. The other layer of perception is the “assumption” and “convention” of interpreting these messages, a large part of which happens through education. These assumptions and conventions are quite deep rooted and well entrenched in societies and difficult to shake off. While “Suggestion” is the art of knowing the commonly established “assumptions” and “conventions” used in interpreting messages and thereby creating and communicating the right set of messages to achieve a certain desired cognition of reality by those who receive the messages. Explaining the “alteration” of reality Do I make it sound complicated – let us take a couple of stories. One is a story which my grandfather use to recount of an unfortunate incident which happened in the village farm. There was this farm worker who was working on setting up the haystack and as he built up the stack with unprotected hands – he noticed something in the hay cut his wrist with two small marks and blood started oozing out. He could not notice anything abnormal and “perceived” that some sharp blade of grass must have cut his skin. He dressed his wounds and continued to work as normal without any problem. A few months later when the haystack was being emptied, the same farm worker was working on the same haystack. As he removed the hay, buried under the hay he found a long dead snake. Out of sheer shock that it was actually a snake which had bitten his wrist months back, he immediately died. So what happened in this case? A rational interpretation would tell us if the snake had actually bitten him and if the snake was actually poisonous he would have died within few days of the snake bite and there was little chance being able to live all this months. And if he had actually lived all these months there was no problem with the snake bite, and a dead snake can actually cause no harm. But that is “actual” reality and not the “apparent” reality of that farm worker – which said “if a snake bites you, you have to die” – by dying in a state of shock he was only fulfilling the terms of this apparent reality. Let us understand why he was shocked by dead snake. How did the “alteration” of reality work in this case? • Assumptions : A Snake always bites a man • Conventions : Snake is Poisonous • Suggestions : “If a snake bites you, you have to die” (this could have been through childhood stories , what other people told on the farm or what his parent told him) • Apparent Reality – I was bitten, there was a snake in the haystack, the snake in the haystack was the one which bit me, if a snake bites I have to die, and therefore I will die. Let me introduce you much simple example. A little girl was asked where money comes from. She answered – “Go to the ATM, insert you card, press a few keys and presto you get money” – She had no idea that money had to be earned and ATM only distributes money from you bank account. It only gives you what you actually have. How does the “alteration” of reality work in this case? • Assumptions: ATM gives you money whenever you want it. • Conventions : Money is in the Bank and to get Cash use the ATM • Suggestions : “Let us go to the ATM and get some Cash” ( Common conversation heard in the family) • Apparent Reality – Whenever I am need of money, I have to just go to the ATM use my card and get the cash. “MAYA” at Work The above examples were meant to make you understand the conceptual aspect of reality “alteration” lets move on to a serious example which has had global repercussions. In 2003, Saddam Hussein’s alleged possession of “Weapons of Mass Destruction” (WMD) prompted and triggered the US-Briton invasion of Iraq and toppling of the Saddam Hussein dictatorship. Almost three years have passed, Saddam Hussein and most of his loyalists have been arrested and put on trial, and those who were not were killed in war or escaped. The US has installed a crony administration in Iraq. For last three years the Americans and the British troops have built bases in Iraq and captured all the bases of the old Baath army. But even after three years and interrogation of the entire Iraqi Baath army and dictatorial set up, there is still no sign of finding any of the “Weapons of Mass Destruction” (WMD) possessed by Iraq which was the reason for launching the war. How does the “alteration” of reality work in this case? • Assumptions: Iraq possesses WMD and WMD in hands of a dictator like Saddam is bad for the World. ( This assumption was since corrected through a change in the “Comprehensive report of the special advisor to the DCI on Iraq’s WMD” which says that a passage on “Suspected WMD – related dual-use goods and procurement transactions” contained errors – you can check this on the official CIA website) • Conventions: “Weapons of Mass Destruction” (WMD) are harmful to this world. Nobody has found what the actual tangible representation of this WMD. The Washington Post quoted historian Paul Fussell on the subject: “A machine gun, properly fired, is a weapon of mass destruction. We're pretending that only awful and sinister people own weapons of mass destruction. We own them, too. We just call them something else.” • Suggestions : In this case fairly simple and straight, and very bold – “Iraq has WMD” – A few memorable suggestive phrases were “In one place -- in one regime -- we find all these dangers, in their most lethal and aggressive forms, exactly the kind of aggressive threat the United Nations was born to confront…. In 1991, the Iraqi regime agreed to destroy and stop developing all weapons of mass destruction and long-range missiles, and to prove to the world it has done so by complying with rigorous inspections. Iraq has broken every aspect of this fundamental pledge.” – President Bush Remarks at the United Nations General Assembly, September 12, 2002 • Apparent Reality: A dangerous and world threatening Iraq regime with massive weapons of mass destruction which can be used at the will of Saddam Hussein and if US army does not invade Iraq – America would be under threat. ( The actual reality was that after 1991 Saddam was considerably weakened without will or means to do harm to anybody other than himself, if the US had not invaded he would have been toppled by his own men) By now you would have come to appreciate the concept of “apparent reality”. But the question remains what all this means for you in your life and business. The concept of creating “Maya” has been well used by advertisers for ages to sell fairly useless products by creating an apparent reality that we can’t do without these products. A fairly simple fragrant bathing soap is sold as a beauty for women by using popular movie stars. For many decades now the most popular actress of the time is used to endorse this soap. How does the reality alteration work here? • Assumption: If I am not beautiful I will not be accepted therefore I need to constantly look for ways to make me beautiful. • Convention : Movie actresses are the most beautiful people in society • Suggestion : Movie actress uses this soap – so she is beautiful - if you use the same soap - you also become beautiful • Apparent Reality: Using a particular bathing soap can make you beautiful. (While the actual reality is soap can only clean your body and cannot alter your looks) Advertisers are probably the most blatant exploiters of “Maya” and keeping you happy in an illusory world but there are different ways both positive and negative through which the concept of apparent reality can be used for various situations in business. Positive Uses of “Apparent” reality in business situations: There are many positive uses of creation of an “apparent” reality through the correct uses of “suggestions” and “perceptions” in the world of business. Our innate understanding of these concepts will arm us to be or not be successful in our daily conduct of business. I will use a couple of real examples on how this is done and can be achieved. Most business leaders have used these concepts intuitively, but the not so talented and those of us who do not come in the “category” of born leaders can also use these concepts. In the following passages, I will consciously avoid the references to sales, marketing and advertising which happen to be most overt users of such concepts and thereby I may not add any particular value to readers. Consider entrepreneurs, let us face it accept a few – no entrepreneur is born rich – they are into what they are doing to get rich, to their merit they have a vision of what they want to be and clarity on how they want to do it. But their plan cannot be achieved alone; vision and clarity are of no use unless you get financial backing from bankers or other capitalists. You cannot build a company without having good people work for your dream, and therefore need to build a team. But think of it when you actually start, why anybody should fund you and anybody trust their own future and future of their families by working for you. If you want to actually build a healthy and profitable company, you better have good reasons for both. But how can you have one when you just start with ideas and concepts, and there is nothing tangible you can show. In these cases let us try and arrive at the suggestions or “suggested messages” which need to be conveyed in order to achieve your objectives. The order we can follow is Desired Perception--> Societal Convention --> Individual Assumptions --> “Suggestions” to be used in messaging. For a banker or a capitalist how can this work. Desired Cognition of Reality: Your investment in my firm is safe and you will be able earn a god profit in a few years Societal Conventions: There are many at work • Investments are risky • Healthy investments need means an ROI of X % • Investing in known options mean “Containment of Risk” • Do not invest in unknown options and unknown people Individual Assumptions: This can be actually found out by interacting with the person but common assumptions which are at play are • Younger entrepreneur – more risk • Experience in the same field is required to start a business • Lets go by convention and invest where everybody invests Suggestions: To achieve the desired “cognition” of reality on the investor – your messaging framework has to contain key messages which say • As an Entrepreneur what is my commitment on returns. • Why being young is an advantage. • How do I bridge the gap of experience – by building a team which has experience or using available knowledge in the field? • What are the promised returns over fixed time frames and what is the level of detailing in my business plan to achieve this. • How do I overcome the barrier of being unknown – by being networked with right people - so you know the same people I know, and the same people know that I have the acumen to run a business? You will have to develop well-though out key messages which are able to answer these key assumptions and conventions and also build a desired effect. Before you actually go to the bankers test out these messages in controlled environments and check for the possible responses and whether the create the “apparent” reality you want to achieve. As an entrepreneur it is only your “vision” that exists – but for the banker it is very important to understand how well and consistently you can articulate this vision and how well you have thought of a plan to make this a reality. In other words it has to be “apparent”. For a prospective employee how can it work? Here I talk of somebody who can actually add value to your business by either being able to develop a product or service, or bringing in the right knowledge and experience or simply being a good administrator who can run the day-to-day operations for you. Desired Cognition of Reality: You can build a great future for yourself and your family by working for me. Societal Conventions: Some conventions on individual success and family comfort • Person should be able to balance work and personal life • Should be able to provide for needs of his family or partner, including a house and common material comforts which are necessary • Provide education for his children if he/she has any • Be able to save enough money for old age and retirement • The job should meet psychological needs of self-respect and self-esteem. Individual Assumptions: There can be different things for different people • New Company – More risk. Existing or older company – less risk • New Company/Start Up – too much work – cannot have time for my personal life • Now ok – what happens after a few more years where am I headed? In an Old company a career path is clearly defined. Suggestions: To achieve the desired “cognition” of reality on the prospective employee, it is not only important that you interview him /her but also sell your dreams to the person, key messages could include • There is risk in new company, but we have a detailed business plan which mitigates risk, you will be a key person executing this plan, so to put it straight, the only risk in this company is that you are putting your destiny in your own hands. • A start-up has its pressures, but we are looking for people who can grow with us and we know that growth can happen if the individual “grows” so we are deeply committed to provide a person time for his own life and personal growth, we know that is best for us in the long run. • What happens in the long run actually depends on what you would want to do in the long run, if you stay with us you could specialize in a particular area or you could grow to manage teams as the organization grows. We are also committed to remuneration and benefits in line with overall profitability, the more value organization gets we are sure that you will be able to do well for yourself. The key thing is that if you do not articulate your dreams – you can be sure that they will remain just that – dreams. Remember you live in a world of smart people around you, although I have given you a framework for using “apparent” reality, do not ever attempt to use it alter any “perception” without adequate homework. You should know what you are speaking, you should also understand what the “perception” of the other person is, be meticulous in your planning. If you are not able to articulate correctly do not even attempt to use the above suggested framework. Conclusion Although I have used the above examples of using the concept of “apparent” reality in case of an entrepreuarial venture, they can be useful to regular business organizations as well in various activities which involve communicating to people some key messages with a desired outcome of their perception. Desired Perception --> Societal Convention --> Individual Assumptions --> “Suggestions” to be used in messaging. You could also use detailed worksheets before entering into such communication exercises, to chart out the above framework in your business context. You need to have a fairly accurate understanding of what the existing perception is and what is the perception you want to create. This in effect is your creation of “Maya” in the current world. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- © Vijay V Bhat, February 2006: This is an original work based on the thoughts of the author. Michigan militia increases tactical training for 2008 elections

The Michigan Militia launches the 10-Week Project Contest in preparation for the 2008 elections. The group begins arrangements over concerns for public safety in the ten week period between the conclusion of the national elections and the proclamation of the president. The contest aims to get members and non-members involved in the preparation, training and planning for the potentially tumultuous time. The 10-Week Project Contest calls for essays that detail the exact strategy to be undertaken by concerned citizens in the event of turmoil during the ten weeks before the president is officially sworn in. Preparations include the accumulation of food, first aid training, transportation and the preparation of gear. The essays required are persuasive in nature, asking contributors to delineate why they feel the need for these measures to be taken. The Michigan Militia is a long standing organization based in Michigan that is composed of several militia sub groups. The group has recently resurfaced and made its presence known on the internet by having its own MySpace page, YouTube account and Facebook profile. Most of these were put up and being managed by the subgroup called the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia. There are monthly tactical training courses given by the Michigan Militia. Often these are held on the first Saturday of each month in Camp Stasa in Bancroft, Michigan. Members of the Michigan Militia train people in the handling of weapons, first aid and give them safety instructions. Most of the Michigan Militia’s training focus on guns and weapons as well as combat training for different climates and terrain. They have regular activities which are open to the public and announced on their website and their profiles on social networking sites. Some of their most notable activities include the Snow Dog Winter Training and Survival Weekend as well as the Militia Field Day. The Militia Field Day allows members and non-members to practice their target shooting using different caliber weapons. Children as young as 10 years old are taught to handle guns and practice target shooting. Contests are also held wherein the participants have to practice accurate and speed shooting. The Michigan Militia prohibits the bringing of alcohol, illegal substances and weapons on the premises of any of their activities. The East Central Volunteers of Michigan and the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia facilitate most of their activities. Originally called the Michigan Militia Corps, the group was originally established in 1994 and has enjoyed a rise in membership after the September 11 attack on the World Trade Buildings.
