What to do if your flight is cancelled or delayed

Airlines don't guarantee their schedules, and you should realize this when planning your trip. There are many things that can-and often do-make it impossible for flights to arrive on time. Some of these problems, like bad weather, air traffic delays, and mechanical repairs, are hard to predict and beyond the airlines' control. If your flight is delayed, try to find out how late it will be. But keep in mind that it is sometimes difficult for airlines to estimate the total duration of a delay during its early stages. In so - called "creeping delays," developments occur which were not anticipated when the carrier made its initial estimate of the length of the delay. Weather that had been forecast to improve can instead deteriorate, or a mechanical problem can turn out to be more complex than initially determined. If the problem is with local weather or air traffic control, all flights will probably be late and there's not much you or the airline can do to speed up your departure. If there's a mechanical problem with the plane for your particular flight or if the crew is delayed on an incoming flight, you might be better off trying to arrange another flight, as long as you don't have to pay a cancellation penalty or higher fare for changing your reservations. (It is sometimes easier to make such arrangements from a pay phone than at a ticket counter.) If you find a flight on another airline, ask the first airline to endorse your ticket to the new carrier; this could save you a fare increase. Remember, however, that there is no rule requiring them to do this. If your flight is canceled, most airlines will rebook you on the first flight of theirs to your destination on which space is available, at no additional charge. If this involves a significant delay find out if another carrier has space, and ask the first airline to endorse your ticket. Finding extra seats may be difficult, however, especially over holidays and other peak travel times. Each airline has its own policies about what it will do for delayed passengers waiting at the airport; there are no federal requirements. If you are delayed, ask the airline staff if they will pay for meals or a phone call. Some airlines, often those charging very low fares, do not provide any amenities to stranded passengers. Others may not offer amenities if the delay is caused by bad weather or something else beyond the airline's control. Contrary to popular belief, airlines are not required to compensate passengers whose flights are delayed or canceled. As discussed in the chapter on overbooking, compensation is required by law only when you are "bumped" from a flight that is oversold. Airlines almost always refuse to pay passengers for financial losses resulting from a delayed flight. If the purpose of your trip is to close a potentially lucrative business deal, to give a speech or lecture, to attend a family function, or to be present at any time-sensitive event, you might want to allow a little extra leeway and take an earlier flight. In other words, airline delays and cancellations aren't unusual, and defensive counter - planning is a good idea when time is your most important consideration. When booking your flight remember that a departure early in the day is less likely to be delayed than a later flight, due to "ripple" effects throughout the day. Also, if an early flight does get delayed or canceled, you have more rerouting options. If you book the last flight of the day and it is canceled, you could get stuck overnight. You may select a connection (change of planes) over a nonstop or direct flight because of the convenient departure time or lower fare. However, a change of planes always involves the possibility of a misconnection. If you have a choice of connections and the fares and service are equivalent, choose the one with the least-congested connecting airport, so it will be easier to get to your second flight. You may wish to take into consideration the potential for adverse weather if you have a choice of connecting cities. When making your reservation for a connection, always check the amount of time between flights. Ask yourself what will happen if the first flight is delayed; if you don't like the answer, pick another flight or ask the agent to "construct" a connection that allows more time.

    What to eat while camping

One of the most fun times you can have while camping is cooking for the group. Cooking is generally done over a fire or on a grill. You should bring foods that are easy to store and keep fresh. You should include snacks for the trail as well as foods to prepare for each meal. Perishable items should be stored in a refrigerator or in a cooler on ice. Breakfast Start your day off right with a breakfast that will get you ready for a day of hiking or exploring. Slice up some mushrooms, onions, bacon and potatoes and grill in a skillet over the fire until done. Mix eggs with a little milk and pour over the mixture to heat until the eggs are fully cooked. This is a great skillet meal that is easy to prepare and clean up. Another easy meal to prepare is a breakfast taco. Cook some eggs and place inside a tortilla with cheese and picante sauce. If you feel a bit more adventurous, try a breakfast pizza using pre made crusts and eggs. You can cook the eggs any way you like them and add bacon, potatoes or sausage. Heat the pizza crusts over the fire and top with your egg mixture and cheese. Lunch Keep lunch simple and easy to prepare and clean up so you get back to your adventures. Sandwiches are a great lunchtime treat using easy to store and prepare foods. Sliced lunch meats with vegetables on bread make the perfect pick me up. For a hot side dish to accompany the sandwiches take some frozen French fries, chili and cheese sauce; combine them in foil, wrapping it tightly. Throw the package on the fire and cook until the fries are cooked through and then enjoy your gooey chili cheese fries. Dinner Dinner consisting of a hearty stew is a great option. Using canned vegetables, mix equal parts of your favorites in a heavy pot. These can include corn, peas and beans. Also add a can of chunk chicken and pre made barbecue pork. Add two cans of tomato sauce and two cans of chopped tomatoes and simmer slowly over an open fire for a filling stew. If you went fishing and were lucky enough to make a catch, fry it for dinner. After cleaning the fish, cut it into filletsbine one can of beer with two eggs until thoroughly mixed. To that add twelve ounces of flour, two teaspoons of baking powder and salt and pepper to taste. Dip the fish in cornstarch then the batter. Place it in hot oil and fry until the batter puffs. This is a great way to enjoy the efforts put forth after a day of fishing. Trail Snacks No camping trip is complete without snacks to prepare and bring while you are out on a nature hike. Walking and hiking is hard work so you should bring some foods that will help boost your energy. Popcorn popped over an open flame is a fun way to prepare the next day’s snack. Trail mix is a traditional option and is limited to only your imagination. Use a combination of hearty ingredients with sweetsbine granola, raisins, chocolate chips, M & M’s, cereal, dried fruits and nuts. Use whatever combinations you like. My favorite camping meals though, are made with pudgie pie makers (also called pie irons). They are made of cast iron or metal and have long handles. Our family uses pudgie pie makers to meal delicious treats for lunch and dinner. Bread is the staple ingredient in making a pudgie pie. My favorite is grilled cheese. To make one, butter two slices of bread. Place the buttered side down in the pudgie pie maker. This will prevent the bread from sticking. Place a cheese slice on top of each slice of bread. Close the pudgie pie maker. Place in the coals of your campfire. It will only take a few minutes for the pie to cook. Turn the pie maker after about a minute. Watch your sandwich closely. Depending on how hot your fire is, the sandwich will cook very quickly. Ham and tomato are also very good additions to your cheese sandwich. Pizza pudgie pies are popular with our family too. Again, butter two slices of bread and place the buttered side down in the pudgie pie maker. Add your favorite pizza toppings (ours are canned pizza sauce, pepperoni, and mozzarella cheese). Close the pudgie pie maker and place in the coals of your campfire to cook. Be careful when removing pudgie pies from your pudgie pie maker. Both the pudgie pie maker and your sandwich will be very hot. Another favorite type of pudgie pie that our family enjoys are dessert ones. Butter your two slices of bread and place the buttered sides down in the pudgie pie maker. Spoon in some of your favorite prepared pie filling (cherry or apple are our favorites). Cook in the fire and enjoy. And of course, no camping trip is complete without making smores. They’re also very easy to make. Start by roasting a marshmallow over your fire. Once your marshmallow is warm and gooey, stick it on top of a graham cracker and a piece of a chocolate bar, and then top with another graham cracker. Cooking while camping can really be a lot of fun. Preparing foods should be easy and require little clean up and use few pots and pans. At the end of the night, though, no camping trip would be complete without toasting marshmallows. Cut some branches and skewer large marshmallows. Hold each stick over the flame until brown and toasty. It makes a great, gooey dessert and an ideal end to your day.

    What to expect hiking havasu

Hiking Havasu by Michael Pavelek Although Havasu is a popular hiking destination and pictures of the falls can be found everywhere, there is surprisingly little information available about how to plan a hiking trip. Perhaps this is because the people who have grown up around Havasu take for granted the basic questions that hikers unfamiliar with the area would have; such as “how difficult is the hike, where can drinking water be found, and are toilets available?” This article provides answers to these questions and more. 1. Reservations Reservations are required in order to hike to the falls. Making reservations is easy and information can be found on the Havasu web site at havasupaitribe. This web site also provides information about current rates for camp sites, horse rental, and helicopter rides as well as directions to get to the trail head. Don’t expect to make reservations at the last minute because the lines at the tourist office are often busy. 2. Hotels near Havasu Since the Havasu village is eight miles down the trail and the temperature can be quite hot, many people like to spend the night in a hotel and then get an early morning start. Inexpensive hotels can be found in Seligman, and along Route 66. There will be about two hours of driving time from the hotel to the trail head; so plan to leave the hotel before sunrise if you are trying to avoid hiking in the heat. 3. Trail Head and Parking The trail head has a paved parking area which is fairly large. During busy times such as holiday weekends, cars are also parked along the road for at least a half mile past the paved parking area. Parking is done on a first come first served basis. Sometimes parking spots near the trail head are available even though cars are stretched back down the road as people are regularly leaving and arriving. Driving to the trail head to look for a closer spot before settling on a parking spot near the back can be worth while. There is not a source of drinking water at the trail head, so make sure to bring enough to make the eight mile trek to the village. There are some old pit toilets at the trail head which are now full of trash and fortunately have been replaced by porta-johns. These are the last toilets prior to entering the actual camp site which is about ten miles away; so plan accordingly. If you are sending your gear down by horseback, there is a shed near the trail head where the gear can be checked; but make sure you make reservations for a horse in advance if you plan on using one. 4. Trail Difficulty and Awareness Switchbacks going down from the trail head make this trail look like a real challenge, but after the initial switchbacks, the trail becomes a gradual slope down what appears to be an old river bed. The trail continues in a gradual downward slope the whole way to the village. The trail surface starts off as hard packed dust interspersed with rocks and for the largest part of the hike becomes a fairly smooth lightly covered gravel surface. It is very easy surface to walk on until just prior to the village where the trail turns into a deep soft sand and remains sandy for the two miles into the camp ground. The outside edges are often packed harder and provide easier walking. Listen for horses moving up the trail and move to the side early. Unlike the mule trains at the Grand Canyon National Park, these horses are often driven up the valley at a good clip and could be dangerous for people not expecting them. 5. Check-in at the Village Check-in at the tourist office in the village to pay the balance of your reservation. Fortunately, they do take VISA, but I prefer to take cash just in case. The tourist office is on the left hand side as you come into the main part of town and is clearly marked. Upon check-in, you will receive tags to display on your camping equipment and a map with directions to the camp ground. There is a store on the square that sells cold drinks and groceries with benches outside that make this a great place to take a break. US mail is available to send letters or post cards, but I don’t recall seeing a public pay phone in the village. Be careful heading through town to the camp site. The sign to make a right near the school is somewhat hidden in a tree and many hikers seem to have missed it as we saw them being turned around and redirected by the local Indians. 6. The Falls The walk from the village to the falls is approximately two miles. The trail approaches the falls from the top and the campground starts immediately past the falls. The Indians often have stands set up selling hot dogs and drinks near the campground which are reasonably priced considering the location. A fatty hot dog can also be a welcome alternative to freeze dried meals. Although I prefer to only carry what is absolutely necessary when it comes to hiking, sandals or water shoes are worth taking to Havasu falls. Sandals make walking through the pools of water below the falls much easier as the rocks are somewhat jagged. 7. Campground Camping spots are first come, first serve and the campground runs on both sides of the stream for quite some distance. The only bridge to cross to the far side of the campground is near the entrance. This results in many people walking through the stream and other people’s camp sites to come back and visit Mooney falls; which is just past the back side of the campground. The camp sites were generally large enough for at least two tents and the soft sandy soil made it easy to drive in tent pegs and was a dream to sleep on. Porta-johns are at both ends of the campground, but only on the side of the stream with the main trail. Keep this in mind when selecting a site. Depending on where you are camped, it may be faster to go to the porta-johns on the back side of the campground than to walk back out to the front. The Porta-johns are rigged with harnesses to be raised out by helicopter which must be an impressive operation. If anyone has pictures of this process, I would love to see them! Drinking water is available at the campground from a spring which is marked by a hand painted sign. The spring is located on the left hand side just past the campground entrance. 8. Hiking Out There are signs posted requesting that people do not hike at night, but many people pack up before first light and head out with their headlamps in order to avoid the midday heat. Once you are through the sandy trail sections near the village, the upward sloping trail is so gradual that the uphill slope is hardly noticeable. The switchbacks at the end are a bit of a challenge, but they are not very long and a slow pace, frequent breaks, and good hiking staff can make them pass by without difficulty. With a good idea of what to expect, hiking Havasu should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. The water falls at Havasu are some of the most beautiful hiking destinations around. Please remember to be respectful and throw away all trash so that Havasu will continue to be open to future generations. Michael Pavelek is the President of Trail Gear, Inc. and has been enjoying hiking for over twenty years. Visit his website at mytrailgear for a large selection of hiking and camping equipment.

What to look for in a chess set

There are almost as many different types and styles of chess sets as there are chess players. It may be hard to decide upon a particular set, but it's relatively easy to narrow your choices down to a particular category. Here's a look at the major categories that are available everywhere: Theme Chess Sets These types of chess sets depict characters, movies and events. There are theme chess sets for most major sports teams with pieces and pawns that resemble positions like quarterback and cheerleaders. There are entire categories of cartoon character chess sets that are perfect for attracting younger people to the game. You can even get Civil War or WW II sets as well as Roman Gladiator and even old West models. You'll pay anywhere from $20 to over $2,000 for theme sets depending upon the theme and the materials used to make the set. Some sets are made with silver, gold and precious stones. Choose platinum if you have plenty of money. Travel Chess Sets If you're on the go then folding travel chess sets are for you. They're usually magnetic to protect against bumps and jolts. The pieces and pawns can be stored inside the board when folded. You can get a nice one for somewhere around $20, or a very basic one for $10 or less. You may even find miniature ones in the dollar stores! Wood Chess Sets Wood is a great material for chess sets. The pieces, pawns and board can be made from less expensive oak, pine or walnut, or you can choose exotic woods like teak, ebony, or cocobolo. Wood sets are impressive to look at and the pieces feel solid. Because of the weight, they don't make good choices if you're looking for a portable set, but they are wonderful additions to your home or office. Wood sets run between $50 and $5,000. Let your budget be your guide! Glass Chess Sets Glass is the generic term used to describe chess sets which are made from crystal or bone china. Although these types of sets generally come in the theme or collector's categories, you can fine regular pieces and pawns as well. Crystal pieces have a good hefty feel to them, but china pieces will usually feel a bit light unless they have weighted bases. Although beautiful to look at, the pieces will break if dropped and fingerprints can become a problem on some models. They're dust collectors too. Many people keep a glass set for "looks" and another type for actual play. Glass sets average in the $300 to $2,000 range, but you can pay a lot more if you want to. No matter what material you choose, there is a chess set that's right for your taste and budget. Instead of buying a set, consider buying the board, pieces and pawns separately. That way, instead of ending up with a chess set that's another "me too", you can design one that's uniquely yours!

What to look for in hybrid golf clubs

In some parts of the world, the golf season is just beginning for the year. Golf can be a huge part of some people's lives as a way to socialize with people, relax and do business deals. A lot of people even make it a way of live and live right on a golf course and at the same time they will do whatever they can do to make their golf game the best they can. Hybrid golf clubs are one of the things that can be used to improve your game. Hybird golf clubs are still relatively new in the sport because we all know that the regular ones are usually made of iron or wood. Because they haven't been on the market for as long as other types of clubs, there can be some confusion on how to pick out the right ones for your game and to make improvements to your swing. The main problem with this is that if you pick the wrong ones you will be out some money and even worse -- it could hurt your game too! One of the main things that you have to do is a lot of reading about different brands available because there are many different qualities to choose from. The best place to get your research done is the internet, local pro shop, magazines and your golfing buddies. The last thing that you want to do is make a hasty decision and spend your money on something that is going to end up not working for you. You will also want to make sure that when you make your purchase, you buy them from a golf shop with a good reputation. In addition, make sure that the brand of the clubs that you buy are a good solid brand as well. Brands that have been in the market for a long time will have worked out all the issues with the clubs over time. Another thing that is fairly important to look at is the shape of the heads on the clubs. Pick ones that you are used to using and you should be on the right track. Hybrid golf clubs are quickly becoming a big trend in the golfing industry today and becoming the popular choice for both amateurs and pros. Next time you are out on the course, try a set! It may improve your game.

What to look for in pontoon bass boats

When it comes to fishing, pontoon bass boats are the best way to get around the water whether it is a small lake or a river. When you look at the market today there are many types of pontoon bass boats to choose from. There are three tips to follow that can help you to make the wisest purchasing decision possible when it comes to pontoon bass boats. The following three tips are specifically designed to help you make an informed decision when purchasing pontoon bass boats so you don't end up wasting time and money on a pontoon bass boat that isn't right for your fishing needs. The first thing to consider is comfort. It is important that you are comfortable while fishing, especially if you will be doing it from your own personal boat. Most tube boats are small and comfortable, which is why many prefer a pontoon boat, which places them above the water without placing their feet or legs in the water. Depending on your needs you can also get pontoon bass boats with platforms for standing on, casting, fighting fish or just to stretch your legs. Next you want to consider the durability of pontoon bass boats. You should consider where you plan on using your pontoon boat and make sure you choose one that is durable enough to withstand anything you throw at it during your fishing trips. A lot of tube boats aren't durable. It is best that you consider a pontoon boat, which has testimonials from customers, and demonstrations that can prove the durability of the manufacturers product. By getting a durable pontoon boat you can have a long-term boat that meets your needs and makes you satisfied. Finally you need to consider the policies offered by the company. If you are getting a quality pontoon bass boat then the manufacturer should offer a money back guarantee in case your aren't completely satisfied. A money back guarantee is the best protection you have against the company returning your money in case the boat you buy isn't what you had in mind. The better the money back guarantee offered by the company is the mark of a good quality product. The best companies may even offer you a free trial period in which you can try out what you may be buying. Look for these deals to insure you are buying pontoon bass boats from a quality manufacturer. Next time you are shopping for pontoon bass boats you should keep these three tips in mind. By finding pontoon bass boats that fit all three of these categories you can ensure that you are saving time, money and disappointment when you buy a pontoon bass boat. These tips will ensure that your first pontoon bass boat purchase is your only purchase and that you will be satisfied for years to come with the purchase of your pontoon bass boat. So use this information to your advantage when making your next purchase.

What to look for when purchasing woodworking tools

Even experienced woodworkers can go into “contractions” when it comes to trying to buy a new tool … can you imagine how a novice must feel? The rule of thumb when buying anything is … “when you don’t know much, if anything about the product, select the cheapest or near cheapest price, or we pick the most powerful version, thinking that if one power is good, two must be better”. We all do this with one thing or another, but doing this with power tools can be hazardous to your health. One example of buying too much was a friend of our family’s daughter. Finally got her first apartment and decided to fix it up a bit. She needed to fasten a bookshelf to the wall and decided to purchase a portable drill. There are dozens of them around. In her mind she wanted “a good one” and promptly purchased, at the sales person’s recommendation, an 18volt drill. Honestly, if this young gal is 100 pounds soaking we, I would be amazed, she is a wee bit of a thing, and you guessed, the first time she used the drill, the bit caught something in the wall and twisted out of her control to the point she had to seek medical attention and was off work for a few days and in a sling for two weeks. The drill was simply way too powerful for her. Purchasing power tools goes beyond looking at power, just ask the woodworker who purchased a portable drill and the third time using it the battery pack actually blew out the bottom of it’s case, barely missing his leg … and this was an “experienced” woodworker. Like purchasing anything, a bit of research can go a long way. As a rule, I have found most tool salespeople to be well informed, but remember, they will be trying to sell you the tools THEY sell and not what might be best for you, so keep this in mind when you are looking. Without going into depth on many different tools, here are some points that I have found useful in purchasing tools. Warranty – look for tools that have a long or even lifetime warranty. These tools will be among the better performers because they manufacturers do NOT want to see these tools coming back to them for repair or replacement. Price – I always find that purchasing tools that are priced “middle of the pack” gives me about the best value. I can often find a very decent tool, with a good warranty that is competitively priced. Power – As noted above, bigger is not always better. I am an average sized woodworker and I have no use for drill over 14 volts, they are too heavy and too powerful, even for me they can twist my arm … look for what will do the job for you. Corded or Cordless – you will generally pay much less for corded tools, BUT they are less convenient. If think you will be using your tools a lot, battery power is good, if you are only going to use your tool occasionally, corded is probably fine for you. Where to Buy – as always, a reputable dealer, preferably one who has a selection to choose from and who will stand behind what they sell. If you use these guidelines in purchasing tools you will reduce your risk of purchasing poor quality tools or tools that don’t suite the work you need them for … save yourself some time, money and lot of frustration.

What to serve at your halloween costume party

There are traditional Halloween foods and food items: pumpkin seeds and pumpkin pie, candy corn, assorted chocolate and candy bars, and more. But this Halloween, you want to whip up something different for your family and friends. Whether it is for a Halloween costume party or for your kids Halloween costume adventures (trick-or-treating, school parties), here are some wickedly tasty Halloween recipes! Amazing Appetizers, Monstrous Munchies Last year, my friend held a Halloween costume party. For her Halloween costume, she decided to be a Black Widow spider, the poisonous spider with a telltale red hourglass on its belly. She coordinated a lot of her Halloween costume party cuisine with her spider costume. For an appetizer, she served Spider’s Nest Dip, which sounds a bit gruesome but is a definite crowd-pleaser. It also went perfectly with her spider Halloween costume! For this recipe, mix 16 ounces Cream Cheese with Ѕ a packet of taco seasonings and a cup of sour cream. Next, spread a layer of refried beans on the bottom of a oven-safe dish and sprinkle a handful of cheddar or jack cheese over the top. Place dish in oven at 300 degrees until the cheese has melted. Use either homemade or store-bought salsa and guacamole for this next step: layer salsa, then some of your cream cheese mixture, and last, some guacamole. Continue to layer your items until you run out of ingredients: beans, shredded cheese, salsa, cream cheese mixture, and guacamole. Last, when you have used up all of your layering ingredients, place a spoonful of sour cream in the middle—the “spider’s nest.” Place about Ѕ a cup of sour cream in a plastic bag—Ziplock, grocer bag, whatever you have on hand. Cut a hole in one corner and, carefully squeezing the bag, draw concentric circles around the spoonful of sour cream. Put as many circles as you can without them blending together. Finally, use a pointed object like a toothpick to drag lines from the “nest” to the outside of the web. It will create a lovely web design. Serve with your favorite chips and garnish with plastic spiders. It’s a great addition to a witch, spider, mummy, or vampire Halloween costume! Devilishly Delicious Eggs at Your Halloween Costume Party! Deviled eggs haunt many a picnic, brunch, and family gathering. But little do we realize how great these are for fare at a Halloween costume party! And like the Spider Nest dip, you can coordinate this next recipe with your devil Halloween costume—or even your witch or werewolf Halloween costume. Boil one dozen eggs until hardboiled, cool, peel, slice in half, and remove the cooked yolks. Using a hand blender or chopper, blend together the yolks with 4 tablespoons mayonnaise, 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar, two cloves minced garlic, a dash of hot pepper sauce, and, if you like spicy, throw in a few slices of jalapeno pepper. Blend until completely mixed together and creamy. Using a spoon, stir in a few drops of red food coloring and stir until the mixture has become your desired shade. Fill the empty egg white halves with the red yolk mixture, garnish with parsley or peppers, and enjoy! It’s a festive dish, and it works well for Halloween costume parties, holiday gatherings, and potlucks. You can also substitute other food coloring—green, blue, yellow, whatever you wish! After your Halloween costume party, everyone will be asking for this recipe.

What you may not know about lego

The word Lego is taken from the Dutch for “play well”, which is leg godt. The word is now synonymous the whole world over for a toy which everyone loves to play with be they old, young, boy or girl. We are so used to making things from Lego that rarely do we stop to think about how each individual block of Lego itself is constructed. Firstly, granules are loaded from large trucks into the granule silos. After this the granules are taken to molding machines. These subject the granules to high temperatures, melting them into a highly viscous substance. This substance is then poured into molds of various sizes to make the bricks that we all know and recognise. Once the molten granules have been poured into the molds they are transported to the decorating and printing stage. Although the color of the brick is determined by the color of the granules in the first stage of the process, the bricks can have patterns printed on to them, or designs. For example, bricks with words on such as taxi or police have them printed on at this stage in the manufacturing process. Once this is complete, the Lego bricks are taken to the packaging area where they are placed into boxes with other Lego pieces ready to be shipped to stores or to wherever they are required. Lego also have additional branches which are aimed at different users. For example, Duplo is made by Lego but is widely known by the name Duplo and not always associated with Lego. Individual Duplo pieces are much larger than those of a traditional Lego set and they are aimed at a much younger clientele. Children aged 2-6 find Duplo much easier to get hold of because of its increased proportions and so encourage younger children to exercise their creative minds. Technic Lego is more advanced than standard Lego and so appeals more to the 10-15 year old market. This often incorporates very small pieces as these kits have moving components. For example, you can make such items as a helicopter with propellers which actually move when you turn a handle. For some time Lego was aimed primarily at boys with kits based on Star Wars or Batman. This balance has now been redressed somewhat and it is now possible to purchase kits to build Disney Princess Castles and such like. Lego is a great toy for children as it helps to improve their hand eye co-ordination as well as their imagination and so children of both sexes should be encouraged to play with it in preference to watching endless hours of TV.

What you need to know about airsoft guns

When it comes to toy guns, they are really no toys at all. Some can cause some serious harm and you should be careful with any type of airsoft gun, BB gun or paintball gun. Airsoft guns are made to resemble the likeness of a real gun. You should be careful with the way you present yourself with an Airsoft gun. They can easily be mistaken for a real gun and you may end up getting hurt and whatnot because of the way you acted while holding the gun. An airsoft gun was made not to have the intention on serious hurting someone. They cannot kill anyone, but they will cause the skin to bleed or break open if it hits the flesh. Airsoft guns came from Japan. Guns are illegal in the country of Japan and the people wanted to have a gun of their own, so the airsoft gun as developed. It is legal in other countries like the United States, Indonesia, and Hong Kong. They are easily mistaken for a real gun and because of that fact; United States placed a law that any airsoft gun had to have an orange colored tip so that people can tell if it is a real gun or a pellet gun. Even though pellet guns aren’t real guns, remember, pellet guns can still hurt, so you should never shoot at another person. When it comes to airsoft guns you will want to educate yourself on the types of guns and the type of BBs that you can get for them. The standard pellet sizes for airsoft guns are 6mm. There are several different types of BB pellets. The normal pellet for a standard airsoft gun is plastic and a .2g BB and a plastic .25g BB. You can get other weights for them too. The reason why you will find heavier pellets is so that your accuracy is better. The heavier the pellet the better shot you can have. Even though you have accuracy, you have to consider that the weight of your pellet will determine the distance it can go. The heavier the pellet the less distance it will travel. This is your basic physics. Heavy pellets lose velocity compared to the lighter ones. You should try a few weights and different BBs to find out what pellet is best for you and your airsoft gun. You need to find a pellet that you are comfortable with. The sizes that you have to choose from at .12g, .20g, .23g, .25g, .30g, .36g, .39g, and 43g. The higher weight you have the better it will be for outdoor use, but take in consideration the travel distance and wind before shooting your gun. You can find out more information of the pellets when you go to a store to purchase them or online.

What you need to know about snowboard boots

What You Need To Know About Snowboard Boots By Lucas Bradford Having the right boots is vital for snowboarding as your feet is the part of your body that connects you to the board. So to achieve maximum board control you need to have the right equipment. When choosing the type of snowboard boots to buy you need to select according to the style of snowboarding that you are most likely to use. There are basically three varieties of snowboard boots and they are the hard boot, the soft boot and the hybrid boot. The exterior of the boot is where the biggest difference lies as the inner linings are fairly similar between each type of boot. Inside all snowboard boots you will find ‘inner bladders’ and their function is to cushion and support your feet. They also keep the water away from your feet so help to keep your feet dry and warm. The inner bladder will usually have its own laces which enable you to wrap the liner tightly around your feet ensuring no rubbing against your skin and also give a better level of comfort. First up let’s take a look at the hard snowboard boots. As the name implies, these have a tougher more rigid exterior. Hard boots are generally used on-piste in events like slalom and events where small movements of the feet give a greater edge performance. The outer shell of these boots is usually make from hard plastic and the boots offer support for a rider’s ankles, feet and lower legs. Hard boots tend to have a toe and heel clamp to secure the boot to the snowboard. Next we have soft boots which would be the most comfortable boots that you can wear for snowboarding. Soft boots can be used combined with binding highbacks to enable the rider to have more control on the heel edge. Because the boots are soft the rider can move their feet more naturally and they are more comfortable and therefore best suited for freestyle riding. Many people will choose soft boots as they are able to walk and go out briefly while wearing them. Lastly there is they hybrid boots that are a combination of both the hard and the soft boots. The hybrid boots give a sturdy hard sole with a soft upper boot. These boots offer flexibility and comfort as well as a good deal of control that the hard boots offer. When looking to buy boots it is recommended to take along the leggings and footwear that you will be wearing while snowboarding then you will be sure to get the correct size boot fitted. Try different boots and buy from a professional so they know what they are talking about when helping you to choose the best boot suited to you. canadiansnowboarder

What you need to know if you want to be a certified diver

If you have never dived before and aren’t sure that you want to spend the money on the certification process, you can still go diving. There are popular diving locations in the Caribbean or the Florida Keys where the resort may offer dives. These are typically one day or weekend crash courses, and they don’t allow you the freedom you have with becoming certified, but they will give you a chance to see what it’s like. Getting certified in Scuba Diving can be a lengthy process. Not everyone is cut out to scuba dive. If you are thinking of being certified, there are a few things you should do before you go any further. One is to make sure you are a reasonable good swimmer. Part of the certification requires you to be able to swim 200 yards and be able to float or tread water for roughly 10 minutes. Scuba diving can be very tiring, so making sure you are in good shape is necessary. Second, it is a good idea to get cleared from your doctor. Health issues can occur with scuba diving, and you want to make sure that you won’t have any problems. You need to be able to breath through your mouth instead of your nose and be able to equalize your ears. You don’t want to rupture an ear drum while scuba diving because you were unable to “pop” your ears. Heart conditions and obesity can also make you more susceptible to heath conditions that occur with diving. You also need to consider your mental health, meaning if you can mentally handle scuba diving. You are underwater and cannot panic. If you are one to panic easily at the sight of something you aren’t familiar with, scuba diving might not be for you. There is an abundant amount of sea life, and you need to be able to deal with it whether it’s a shark or a fish. After taking all of these things into consideration, and you are still ready to become certified there are quite a few places you can go to do so. There are about 1,900 professional scuba dive centers in just North America, so you should be able to find one relatively local. These centers should be listed in the yellow pages of the phonebook. You can also look online. You should find one where you are able to take it and get information on the course. Courses can range in price from several hundred dollars to even several thousand dollars. You may also need to buy your own equipment, so talk to the instructor and know what you will need to have for the class. You may also want to ask about the size of the class, and the length. Some places offer the course in a weekend and others over a few week period. If this particular class doesn’t sound right for you, keep looking around. Lots of places offer the class, so you should be able to find one that works for you and your schedule. In order to become certified, there is a classroom portion, pool sessions, and open water dives. The classroom portion will require you to take a written test at the end that you need to pass. The pool sessions also require you to pass a swim test as talked about earlier. In the open water dives ( starscuba/openwatercertification) you will need to show your skills such as setting up and check equipment, planning the dive, ascent and descent, clearing the mask, and more. All must be done before you are certified and able to venture the waters alone. By alone of course I do mean using the buddy system because you never want to dive by yourself.

    When football hurts

It does not matter if you are a girl or a boy, old or young --- Football is a sport for everyone. In some European countries, almost every school has a football team of their own. Football is a popular sport among teenagers, all of whom were probably inspired by their idols in the international football teams. Football's growing popularity is best exemplified by its “ambassador” --- David Beckham, a popular (and gorgeous!) football player whose advertisement billboards can be seen almost everywhere. He is like the looked upon as the “epitome” of a football player since he is the best there is. In England, for example, they have Manchester United as being the most popular football club there is, with almost 50 million supporters worldwide. Football, also called as soccer, is a team sport wherein two teams go against each other to score a winning goal for their team. Eleven players are included in a team, and the sport is played in a rectangular grass field. The goalkeeper is one member of the team that guards their respective goal, and the only one who can use their hands or arms to prevent the ball from reaching the goal. All the other players use their feet in kicking the ball, and is also using their torso and head for mid air passes. Of course, in every physical game we play, there is always a possibility of having an injury within the team. In football and in any other games that require physical strength, they are trained to do stretching and pre-game exercises, prior to playing the game. But in some cases, other players may not get to stretch certain parts of their bodies properly, and while during the game, they may be injured due several factors. Usual injuries in this kind of sport, or in any other physical sports include ankle sprains and strains, knee pain, lower back pain, elbow pain, shoulder injuries, and muscle spasms, among others. Ankle sprains or strains are often experienced when there is uneven terrain, or a poorly executed technique. The right footwear is essential in avoiding this, and a brace could also provide extra resistance. Knee pain during a football game can be caused by poor and improper technique, absence of conditioning and lack of flexibility. It is important to have suitable training to avoid overuse, and such aspects in bio-mechanics like flat feet or high arches give out more knee pain. In playing football, for example, knee pain is the result of an injury, like a ruptured ligament or a torn cartilage. Lower back pain is common among those older and less active, since they lose the strength and balance in the muscles (abs and lower back), leading to bad posture. Elbow pain is mostly experienced by people playing tennis or golf, but anyone can develop elbow pain. Shoulder injuries are often seen in throwing sports like baseball, or other track and field games. Muscle spasms are experienced when there is tightness in any particular muscle area, and more often than not, can be painful. Football players usually have this kind of problem in their leg areas, where they usually stretch out their feet to kick the ball. A spasm is an unexpected contraction of the muscle, and is felt on the neck, back, shoulder, or legs. Muscle spasms can be avoided by football players using good and proper stretching techniques, most especially in their leg areas. Playing football is fun and fulfilling for football players and even sijmple spectators of the sport everywhere. Still, it is important to know the safety and health conditions of the players before playing, to avoid such injuries that might lead to more serious problems in the future.

When playing internet poker be disciplined

A conventional blunder made by a large number of neophyte (and an outrageously excessive sum of persons that ought to know better) players is feeling the need to participate in any hand dealt. A thriving card player just participates in 20-30% of dealt hands. Just as a skilled ball player that might be able to ink a million dollar contract by keeping a batting average of .300, the successful poker player realizes that the large amount of the time another player will run away with the pot. Having this in mind it could be vital to play aggressive when you attain a hand that you are confident in. Remember that a good amount of of the time additional players at the table are prepared to lay down their hands. Be ready to cause the weak players out with your aggressive bets. Do you believe that you have the leading hand? If so, increase the wager! The number one reason for being aggressive remains to have folks with poor hands lay down early on, due to the fact that a certain number are apt to hang on looking on the miracle draw to take the hand. By forcing their hand early you are decreasing the odds of those miracle hands as well as also ensuring you win the pot. It's consistently better to pull down a tinier pot than take a gamble that another card player draws a miracle hand late in the game. Your table reputation is additionally especially monumental. Form a firm table image by not bluffing early in your play. Bluffing early identifies you as a bluffer and individuals should spot your bluff A large amount of the time. Play good cards and throw down poor hands, have the opposing persons at the table notice you are clearly playing top quality cards. This creates the opportunity for you to use a healthy bluff later on in the game due to the fact that you have conditioned the others individuals into believing that once you raise you hold the cards to take the hand. Contemplating other poker players and their betting tendencies can be equally as valuable. It can be overly easy to become wound up in your personal game and miss the "tells" the other card players might be exhibiting. Recognizing if they wager aggressively or by and large call with a strong hand empowers you and also your gambling decisions. Most essential of all may be appreciate when to quit! Everyone must consistently be smart and focused while at the poker table. Burnout spells mental mistakes and winds up losing you bucks. Frustration is a new signal that you may be ready to call it an evening, or at the very least take a rest. Play sharp and you ought to win smart.
