Why ace athletes must be fathered

Having a coach to see and guide you through a competition is not enough to be an ace athlete. Someone must coach you until you reach mastery. That someone ought to be a real athlete himself, coached or “fathered” through a long process by a qualified “father” in athletic training. A “father” in training is a battle-hardened master armed with a wealth of experience in his chosen field. He is not only knowledgeable in it; he can be considered an epitome in the field. He has seen lots of actions and has been part of them, and he knows every nook and cranny of the arena. He is so familiar with the “feeling” of being out there where the action is. He knows that real sports encounters are alive; meaning anything can happen out there, and no pattern or formula can compare to live, on-the-spot events. It is only the accurate judgment and experience of the wise that can cope up with live events. He is also so sensitive to the right and wrong forms, including the executions of a technique, the timing, and the right effects. All these can only be available to a real “father” of sports training. Some coaches are mere P. E. teachers, or at best, athletic players once upon a time. They can help some; but at times, they can be more of hindrances than wise guides for trainees. They will tend to be bookish and stick to “what the book says,” or to what they have learned in school, or to what they have experienced in amateur contests. Without mastery (through real, professional sports encounters), they lack the sense to know that aside from mastering basic forms or moves, you have to be flexible and adaptable to unexpected things that are likely to happen out there in the actual arena. Only seasoned sports “fathers” will be able to divulge these details and wisdom to trainee-“sons.” In his skills and experience, a “father” trainer patiently raises up “sons” to continue his calling, or pass down his mission to succeeding generations. He knows too well that champions come from a relay of skills and wisdom, or a technology transfer, and not from those who start out from scratch. You cannot train yourself, or train alone, and come out champion. You cannot also have amateur coaches train you to be champion. You have to feed from the experiences of those who had been there before, saw real tough actions, and really made it to the top. They may be likened to a lighthouse that points out what is right and what is wrong, separating fact from myth. An athletic player acquires knowledge and skill mostly from his own experiences. He may upgrade that by joining competitions and by wearing colorful uniforms, and subjecting himself periodically to coaches. He occasionally reads books about the game. He may even be awarded best player. However, he does not make a career out of it. Eventually, he drops out from the scene and the sport altogether. He will have good stories to tell about how he used to be this and that, but people may not be able to trace his stories because of his now bloated physique due to the absence of training. An ace athlete, on the other hand, is a “son.” He has a “father” who raises him up, and this athlete is aware that he is not just being raised up to win an event or a couple of events; he is being raised up to be a father to raise up other sons someday. Unlike the athletic player who would point to rusted trophies and medals and photos of victories as his proof of being once in the sport, real athletes point to actual “fathers” who have trained them and from whom they have received “trade secrets” for success. They also point to actual athletes and champions they have personally trained and “fathered” to pass on the heritage for generations to come. An ace athlete not only aims to be a champion, but lives to develop other champions as well.

Why bowling is a popular fun sport

Throughout the years, since the introduction of bowling, it has become more and more popular and an exciting indoor sport for many people. It has attracted people from all over the world gaining its reputation as a sport that is fun played and enjoy. Its existence probably began during the time of the ancient Egyptians, as equipment resembling that used in bowling was found in some Egyptian tombs. These discoveries (that could date back as far as the 1700's) signify the popularity of a game similar to bowling. The game probably was played by rolling at stone at other objects. Historians also record that evidence of a similar game was found in the eastern part of Polynesia. The modern sport of bowling is believed to have originated in Germany during the third century. It was known as a religious ritual where peasants brought their own "Kegel" - a tool that served as their defense against rebels and oppressors. To test their faith, priests challenged these people to knock down their "Kegel" by rolling a stone at it. When this was attempted, many believed that they would be forgiven of their sins. As time evolved, bowling has developed as a sport. The Italians have their own modern version of the sport where the stones used to knock down the "Kegel" were replaced by a true ball. It all started in the thirteenth century and at that time they called the sport "bowls". England and the Netherlands modernized the game in the 1300's and it became known as "ninepins" and was enjoyed by the royalty. It was during the middle of the 18th century that the game's popularity expanded. The royalties eventually banned the game because it was used for gambling and revolutionaries were using it to gather in the bowling alley to plot their actions. In New York City, there were about 400 bowling alleys established in the 1850s. The popularity grew because of gambling and mafia activities held in the alleys. In the 1880's the city brought back its attraction to the populace by organizing leagues and tournaments for employees who worked for the large companies in the city. Today it is still one of the most popular indoor sports in the country. It is a sport where a person can have fun with his friends and family. Because of the popularity of this game, it is being considered as a standard sport in the upcoming Olympics.

Why casinos need 24 hour day care

Recently in the news across the USA there have been several reports of parents leaving their children locked in their cars, while the parents sit in a casino and gamble. A great way to stop this from happening would be to legalize online gambling so that parents that can not afford a baby sitter will not do something as stupid as locking a small child in a car alone for several hours. Another solution would be for the casino industry to take responsibility of the people they lure in with promises of riches beyond belief. If the casinos all offered 24 hour free daycare for all casino players those parents who are so far gone in their addiction will not have to make the decision of what to do with their children, they can just take them to the casino and let them be watched after in the casinos daycare centers. As well as making sure children are not being neglected by their parents or legal guardians, the children in their care can be checked for signs of abuse and any parent that brings a child regularly to the casino can be talked to about gambling addiction. Please do not get me wrong I feel the parents should be the ones taking responsibility for their kids, but gambling addiction is a disease, and at least this would provide a way for the government to monitor parents gambling habits, and to provide them with help if they need it. Besides being the right move for the casinos to make for its own civic duty, it also makes good business sense. If the casinos offer such a service they also open themselves up to single parents that could use a little time for some adult fun, and by making the day care 24 hours a day there is no reason why a parent would leave their kid at home instead of at the casinos free daycare. The parents could relax and have a little fun with the knowledge that their kids are being taken good care of. This is not a new concept there are several casinos in Las Vegas that offer day care. These centers offer children of different ages fun things to do, such as all the popular videos, and games fro kids. This will appeal to people with kids. The parents get to gamble and have some adult fun and the kids get to do fun kid stuff. By doing this the casinos will get more business and they are doing the responsible thing for their customers with gambling problems. I understand that the casinos are a business, but they should make sure that some of their less responsible gamblers do not put their children's lives in danger just to make an extra few dollars in a multi billion dollar a year industry If enough people recommend this to their local casinos and state officials, casinos could be required by law to provide child care when they are open.

Why do people gamble reasons to gambling popularity

Gambling in its various forms has been popular for centuries in different cultures all over the entire world. Whether through the national lottery, in horse racing tracks or in casino table games, people are wagering their money hoping to win big time. Although the number of people who go home with life changing winnings is much smaller than the number of people who have left their money in the casinos, race tracks or bingo halls, the popularity of the pastime has not been reduced through the years. Despite the low odds of stepping out as winners in most popular forms of gambling is a well known fact, even though gambling suffers from a bad reputation and even when it is illegal, gambling is still one of the most popular pastimes in the world. So, why do people gamble? The most obvious answer would be money, but it will not be a full answer. There are many other reasons that drive people to the nearest gambling facility. Here we will try to offer an answer to this disturbing question. Luck: the irrational believe in luck is engraved in most of us. These unexplained gut feelings that a special day or a certain number is luckier than the others are sends a lot of people to gamble or even gamble on the same numbers over and over again. Social Purposes: have you ever wonder how can a group of people beat the pants off someone in a poker game and remain best buddies? You can see it in bingo halls, casino bars and friendly poker games: many people see gambling as an opportunity to make new friends or spend time with old friends in addition to the chance of earning additional money. Entertainment: many people visit casinos and play their favorite casino games simply because they love it and they are having a great time. In Las Vegas casinos for example, you will meet more recreational gamblers who see gambling as part of their vacation activities than professional gamblers who take gambling as a serious source of income. Excitement: the act of gambling apparently can give you quite an adrenaline rush. Regardless of the money aspect, the anticipation of the outcome of the game while still not knowing whether it would match your bet is what makes all forms of gambling so thrilling and exciting. Relaxation: as opposed to the accelerated adrenaline rush described by many gamblers, many gamblers find the gambling experience relaxing. When you think about it, what can be more relaxing than ending a busy work week in the comfortable casino atmosphere, playing your favorite game and served free drinks? Boredom: whether exciting or relaxing, when the daily lives become an unbearable routine, gambling can serve as a way to escape reality. Money: in addition to all the reasons mentioned above, gambling allegedly provides an opportunity to can earn unbelievable amounts of money within short time and minimum investment. Even if you are aware to the exact mathematical odds of beating each and every gambling game, if you are an optimist by nature, this slightest chance would nevertheless drive you to a casino, a bookie, a lottery terminal or a bingo hall.

Why do rugby players scrum and maul at such different body heights

Scrums and mauls are the two great dominance contests within the game of rugby. Marked superiority in either of these forms of engagement can affect the morale of both teams in a way that a corresponding supremacy at say the lineout does not. Forward packs spend countless hours developing scrum technique but very much less attention is given to the maul, particularly in a defensive situation. Scrums are also elaborately structured whereas mauls tend to be chaotic. To a large extent this is due to the relative extent to which the two are regulated by the Laws of Rugby. Law 20, relating to the scrum, comprises three times as many pages as Law 17 pertaining to the maul. Unlike the scrum, the Laws are largely silent on what players can do in the maul. Within the maul itself the most relevant clauses are that "Players joining a maul must have their heads and shoulders no lower than their hips" (17.2 (a)); they "must endeavour to stay on their feet" (17.2 (d)); and "A player must not intentionally collapse a maul" (17.2 (e)). Thus there remains considerable latitude for creativity. One very marked difference between the two contests is that in the scrum either pack, whether having the feed or not, has the opportunity to establish dominance and drive the other pack back. By contrast it is very rare in the maul for the side not in possession to gain significant ground. This is largely due to the fact that the team with the ball is able to surreptitiously transfer the ball laterally from hand to hand so that the push from their opponents bypasses the ball-carrier, allowing him to be driven forward more or less unimpeded. I believe that players can be trained to maul much more effectively and the secret is body height. In a typical situation where a maul forms the ball carrier stands upright, making no attempt to crouch. A team mate may attempt to seal off the ball with his shoulder at chest height of the ball-carrier. The first opposing player binds on the ball-carrier at waist height. None of these players would have their legs positioned to exert an effective forward shove. The body height adopted by the first players engaging from each team usually defines the height of their side of the ensuing maul. Subsequent players typically bind against the buttocks of the players in front of them. Players arriving at a maul tend to simply bend at the waist when joining the contest. Compare the likely height of this maul with the body height of the same players in a scrum situation. It can be confidently anticipated that body heights would be at least 300mm lower in a scrum than in a maul. If the first defending player were to bind around the thighs of his opponent rather than the waist, he would create a platform for his team mates to bind at something close to scrummaging height. Each of the players is then likely to have optimal hip and knee joint angles for generating forward momentum. It might even be advantageous for players to adopt the second-rower's technique of binding between the thighs of the player in front, whether team mate or foe. The one essential requirement is that players packing low secure a very firm grip to avoid being penalised for going to ground. While front row players in the scrum are prohibited from "lifting or forcing an opponent up" (20.8 (i)), there is no corresponding restriction in relation to mauls. Although lifting is treated as "dangerous play" in the scrum, it does not have the same connotation in the maul where players are bound in an unstructured way and not confined or compressed as in the scrum. With his shoulder under his opponent's buttocks a player is ideally placed to drive up, forcing the opponent to give ground. While mauls are often formed in an unstructured way, many of them emerge from static engagements such as the lineout or where the ball is being contested after a tackle. In such a situation a well-drilled team would have the opportunity to rapidly adopt a pseudo-scrum formation and drive forward. Not only are they likely to gain advantage in that particular maul, but the practice of adopting biomechanically superior body positions will undoubtedly be energy-conserving over the course of a game.

    Why every kid loves skateboards

There are many things in life that I will never understand. The amount of things that I don't understand has increased significantly since I became a mother and began to watch my kid's choices and preferences as they got older. I couldn't understand why my daughter wanted to wear such an ugly shirt with pants that clearly didn't match it, and I definitely couldn't understand it when my junior high aged son came home wanting to get his ears pierced. Being a mother definitely adds mystery to my life. Up until recently, the fact that all kids seemed to love skateboards was a mystery to me. I began to recognize the phenomenon of skateboards when my own three children asked for them for Christmas a few years ago. I thought it was strange that they all wanted the same thing, yet when I asked them about it they said that literally everybody they knew was asking for skateboards that year. So my husband and I went out after researching the best skateboards for their ages and novice abilities, and we purchased three skateboards to place under the tree on Christmas morning. From the moment our children opened their skateboards they were hooked. They haven't stopped using their skateboards almost daily even still, three years later. It is by far the most loved and best used gifts we have ever purchased for them. Since that Christmas day I have spent countless hours at our local skateboarding park watching my children play with their friends on skateboards. Usually I bring a blanket and a good book and enjoy a morning at the park while I watch. I'm so intrigued by the whole place, however, that I rarely get a chapter read. I've learned that kids love skateboards because they love the freedom, the adventure and the risk that skateboards give. In small proportions, kids love the thrill that skateboards allow them to have. They love learning a new trick or showing off a skill for their friends. I've learned that skateboarding is a healthy way for kids to burn energy and to learn how to relate with other kids. A skateboarding park is quite a social gathering place, and I am thankful that my children are learning to relate with all kinds of people simply because of their skateboards. So parents, take my advice. If your child wants a skateboard, be the first to encourage them. Yes, it is risky and hence there is potential danger involved, but it is a healthy way to let your children experiment with adventure and learn to make friends in the process.

    Why everyone loves bowling

Bowling is a recreational "hangout" many people - it is loved because it is enjoyable and fun. A person can go to the bowling alley to relieve his stress from a long hard week of work. Bowling is a good time for bonding and relaxing with friend and family. It is the perfect recreation for families as they can spend quality time together at the bowling alley. Modernized venues provide their players everything that they need if they want to spend the entire day playing bowling. There are always snacks and other amenities available inside the bowling alley. Some venues also have specific areas designated for those people who wish to smoke. Aside from the complete facilities and service they provide, they also charge an affordable price for each game. Many alleys also "rent by the hour" for groups or families who want to have more time available for playing. Durable plastic seats and benches will give a person a comfortable seat while waiting for his turn to bowl. Many bowling alleys now also provide computer scoring for a much easier and convenient tabulation of the scores. It is an easy task for the scorer to list every strike or spare and a person to be aware of his score because of the rapid calculation of the computerputer scoring eliminates the paper work. When going out with friends, you may select either the ten-pin or five-pin bowling game. The five-pin game can be more fun because there is no special technique required to roll the ball down the lane to knock down the pins. Ten-pin bowling is popular, especially among teens, as it is very exciting and fun to play. It gives a person three attempts in case there are pins left standing after the first shot. Ten pins are set in the target area in a triangular shape. There is a good chance to score a strike, or to at least leave fewer pins standing in the target area, if the shot hits the center pin with a good spin on ball. Everyone loves to play this sport because it can be adapted to anyone's lifestyle. It is recognized as one of the most popular indoor sports of all times. It does not matter whether a person is a good player or not, what is important is it is enjoyed and loved by all who play.

Why have id cards in youth sports

When it comes to competitive play in any youth sport, everyone wants to be sure that the competition is playing by the rules. This is especially true when it comes to the eligibility of a player on another team whether it’s the players size, age, or jurisdiction. This is where photo ID cards come in as an excellent way to assist in regulating these factors. Through an online tracking system and photo id cards for coaches and players a process can be created requiring documentation to only be checked once. In many cases, governing organizations are required to check the players eligibility documents several times during the year. And in most cases for several years as the player continues in the sport. People want to be sure the opposing coach is playing by the rules so every time a team plays in any type of event, documentation has to be reviewed. And still the question remains; was the right documentation shown for the player that is on the field? In creating a registration system, an organization can create a method of removing the eligibility paperwork out of the equation for most situations. A good registration system should track the individual all the way from their first event to the day the player graduates or leaves the program. In using documents such as birth certificates or other government issued documents, a player can be verified and added to the system. When a photo is attached to the registration and the player and coach have copies of the players registration card, this card becomes proof that the individual is eligible to play. And yes, a coach or manager could provide misinformation or bad documents at the time of registration, but it won’t be long before it’s found out since the player carries the card as well. If a player slips through the cracks, someone from an opposing team will speak up and the problem can then be rectified on the system and then replace the card. In our history, through! producing millions of ID cards for players, it has been a rare case that someone has provided intentional illegitimate information in the beginning. Let's face it, the coach is the one doing the registration and it’s placing their name on the registration request and it’s tracked! Team Registration VS Individual Registration There are some sports that are handling registrations by the team and others by the players. One of the initials reasons that team registrations were created was in the ease of only tracking one name instead of every name on the team. I mean even an 11 man football team commonly has 25 players. So do the math: if an organization has 500 teams, it’s a lot easier to track the 500 teams than the 12,500 players. Because of the registration solutions that have been developed today, there are benefits to registering the participants instead of just the teams. The advantages range on individual registration from getting better rates on liability insurance to tracking the participants movements from team to team from year to year. Incorporating background checks is another great thing that can be included in a good photo identification program. We are all aware that in today's society, there are bad people in the wrong places. As our children play in organized sports, it’s critical to be sure that everyone on the playing field has been properly screened. We have watched several organizations begin to require their coaches and managers to wear photo identification badges whenever they are on the field. An effective registration system will only allow photo identification cards to be produced after individual has been through a background check. There are many other things that can be integrated into a photo id program such as team and league management features. If all of the participants information is captured in an online system, these records can be used to assist the coaches, tournament directors and league directors in better managing their programs. Printing rosters, building brackets, and scheduling league play can all be easier to manage if tools are developed to use those registration records. These tools can also be utilized to track the movement of the players from year to year, game to game and team to team. Another good reason to add a photo identification program to your sport is because of the marketing and branding opportunity it offers. We always suggest creating two cards for every player; this way the coach has one to check the players into events while the player has a badge of honor that carries their picture and your organizations name and logo. Ultimately, there are many reasons that you should consider doing photo ID cards for your organized sport if you presently are not, but the largest is probably the paperwork that will be saved and the mistakes that get caught early.

    Why i choose snowboarding

Many people ask me from time to time why I choose snowboarding as the sport that I wanted to do. Why I choose to work so hard at it, and why I managed to achieve a degree of success in doing so. The answer is simple, and it is the reason why many people do well at different sports. The answer is desire and love for the sport and that is what I had in abundance for snowboarding, before my accident. When it came to choosing a sport, I thought long and hard when I came to a cross-road in my life. What should I do? Should I do snowboarding or skateboarding? This was really hard for me as I loved both sports, but I was having to train for both of them, and therefore wasn't dedicating enough time to either. That is why when it came down to it, I decided that skateboarding was only going to be a hobby and that snowboarding was what I wanted to do with my life. The reasons that I preferred snowboarding were not clear cut, and to say I had anything less than love for skateboarding is also not true. But I think I loved the way that snowboarding was a whole different world. Do you know what I mean? When you choose to go skateboarding you can just jump out of bed, and skateboard down to the shop, Ollie over a step and grind down a pole. Is that fun? Yes, of course it is. But when it comes to snowboarding you are entering a completely alien environment. Let me explain. When you live in Atlanta you hardly get snow every day of the week, nor do you get hills and slaloms caked in it! That is why, whether I am boarding on snow or synthetic snow the feeling is the same. It is like, boy I am on snow! When I choose snowboarding there was also another reason that really helped to make my mind up for me, and that was my friends! My friends who done skateboarding were not as close friends as my friends that done snowboarding and as you can imagine this had an impact. The thought of getting to spend more time with Collin, Justin and the lads was just to much to miss out on! We had such a good laugh, and had so much in common. We would always feel the same about snowboarding, and we were able to really help each other out on issues. When we noticed a flaw in each others technique we would always point it out to each other so that we could all improve together. This worked great, and was one of the reasons that I chose snowboarding over skateboarding when it came down to it! Now I suppose I should tell you the sad part - the reason why I am no longer able to pursue a career in either, snowboarding or skateboarding. The reason for this is a terrible accident that ruptured my leg muscle, and has resulted in a six month time-out at such a crucial time. You see others will improve in fitness whilst I deteriorate and that is why my sponsor has now dropped me as well. What I am hoping to do is try my best to get back into the sport, because my love for it and my ability at it should be enough to make me come through. Collin and Justin are doing really well, but it is hard for me to spend as much time with them when they are always down the slope or working out. One of my friends called Blair, has also recently won the Junior USA championship, and although I am happy for him it makes me sad to think that I could have been their competing for that trophy. All I can do is try my best, and hopefully luck will fall on my side.

    Why i love ncaa football

If you love college ball as much as I do, then I know you're going to want to have all the latest gear from your favorite schools. So I recommend that you try shopping online for your official NCAA football products. With the money you save, you might even be able to attend a couple more games this season! In addition to apparel, there are many other official NCAA football products that I can buy. For example, I like to collect sports memorabilia, and mini helmets are one of the hottest items in that area right now. Because they're so popular, it can be hard to get your hands on one from your favorite school -- if you insist on shopping at malls, that is. I've never had any problems finding official NCAA football collectibles, including mini helmets, from even the most sought-after teams such as USC, Texas, and Notre Dame. Other popular collectibles include bobblehead figures of star players, mini footballs, and retro jerseys. Along with convenience, there's another very important reason that I choose to buy official NCAA football merchandise online: low prices. Regular stores with expensive leases and lots of employees just can't offer the same discounted prices that online retailers can. That means I can buy official NCAA football products whenever the mood strikes. I don't have to wait for sales or save up my money for weeks and weeks to be able to afford what I want. Most of my friends think the NFL is the best game in town, but I disagree. I'd take college ball over the pros any day because I prefer to watch athletes giving their maximum effort for school pride and love of the game rather than big-money contracts and shoe endorsements. That's why I make sure I support my favorite college teams by purchasing as much official NCAA football merchandise as I can and by attending as many games as possible. As luck would have it, my favorite college teams are spread out all over the country. I like a couple of SEC teams, several Big 10 teams, and a few in the Pac-10. I obviously can't go to all those different campuses whenever I want to buy fan apparel, so I shop for my official NCAA football gear online. There are many sporting goods websites out there that are really involved in the college scene and offer a wide selection of products to choose from. I definitely can't get this kind of convenience at the local mall! So no matter what kind of official NCAA football items I need, I know I can get them all from a single website. For example, I can purchase an authentic UCLA jersey, Wisconsin Badgers hoody, LSU jacket, and Florida State hat in one order from one website, and I can do all of this without even getting out of my chair. I can't think of an easier way to buy official NCAA football apparel than that!

    Why i started snowboarding classes

Let me tell you all about the time that I went to snowboarding classes and why I absolutely think that you should go out there and do the same. When you learn something new it provides and excellent sense of well being and can result in many hours of fun and enjoyment that can come as a result of the new skill that you have attained. When I was only 16 I really liked watching winter sports on television and although it may sound stupid, it was actually sledging that drove me to want to learn a winter sport. I always liked sledging and I even went sledging when it wasn't snowing. You see, where I live it is absolutely impossible to go sledging 11 months of the year, and if we are lucky enough to have as much as a month of snow then I am always sure to take advantage of it and go out their and sledge away! That is why, coupled with my love for watching snowboarding and sledging on television, that I decided that I would go out their and learn how to snowboard. So you are probably wondering why I made the choice of snowboarding over skiing as my choice for the winter sport that I would try. The main reason for this was because I have a lot of friends that do snowboarding but absolutely none that do skiing done at the local ski slope. Although they do snowboarding the slope caters for both and I suppose the decision really did come down to me. Anyway, in the end I decided to go out their and choose snowboarding and I would be lying if I said my friends were my only influence in my decision to choose the board over the ski's. You see I do not know if everyone will know what I am talking about but I feel that a snowboard just appears to be so much more responsive than ski's. Do you know what I mean? At our local ski slope there is only 100M of run that is around 300 feet if you convert it. In that period on ski's what can you actually do? If it was some kind of complicated slalom then that would be different, but just going down a hill on ski's to me seems slightly boring compared to on a snowboard. A snowboard appears to be more of a white knuckle ride. That is why I decided to choose snowboarding, but don't get me wrong I still think that skiing looks fun, and as I now go down to the skiing slope every week or so I have actually started to do skiing some times for a bit of a change. You see, once I learned how to snow board I had some transferable skills, such as an ability to use the lift, how to handle speed, when to slow down etc. That is why I am glad that I learned how to snowboard first. If I had skied first, then I would probably have found it a lot more difficult to pick up snowboarding second. Anyway I went to snowboarding lessons and really enjoyed myself, I am not as good, nor as dedicated as some of my friends but I still really enjoy myself and that is what it is all about.

Why interleague play is a great thing

This past weekend was the first opportunity during the 2006 season for fans and teams alike to renew relatively young but sometimes heated rivalries between teams of different leagues. It’s hard to believe, but this is already the 10th season of interleague play, and the argument for and against the scheduling of games between different leagues continues to rage. The “purists” who decry interleague play generally lean on a few standard points to make their case, and we’ll examine some of these below. Argument One: Interleague play creates scheduling inequity. Baseball lovers everywhere claim that interleague “draws” that are logically eschewed somewhat based upon geographic considerations create an unfair advantage. For example, this past weekend, the Cardinals got to play the lowly Royals while the Cubs had to play the World Champion White Sox. Although the numbers may somewhat support the notion that as a result of these scheduling considerations, the teams have unequal strength of schedules, the fact remains that we are talking about a very small number of games within a 162-game season. Not to mention, a championship-caliber team in any sport needs to measure up to any test that’s presented. If the Cubs are going to contend for the pennant, they need to step up for these few games and play well. Also, the chance to play a very good team from the other league creates an opportunity for invaluable experience. Teams that are battle-tested are better suited for a late-season surge, which is really what makes the difference between winning a division or not in October. Argument Two: Interleague play devalues the World Series. Purists claim that one of the historic draws of the World Series is the mystery that surrounds the match ups once they’re determined. If two teams have already played each other, the teams will already have an idea as to how to approach specific hitters and pitchers before the World Series starts. Purists need to look at a few surrounding facts before staking this claim. First, the World Series is the World Series. It’s highly dubious that baseball fans will not be as interested in a World Series simply because the two teams playing had a series in May. Secondly, many Super Bowls have featured teams that have played each other during the NFL season, and this has never diminished the competitive nature of that game. NBA Finals series always feature teams that have played each other, and there doesn’t appear to be any falloff in terms of competitiveness or fan interest in this setting either. If anything, a small dose of familiarity creates better games, as adjustments need to be made immediately. Argument Three: Fan and player interest has waned as the novelty of interleague play has dissipated. Purists argue that interleague play was a fun idea for the first year or two, but now fans and players treat each series as just another set of games on the schedule. One only needs to look at this past weekend to completely debunk this argument. Anyone who watched the White Sox-Cubs series can tell you that there was definitely not a lack of intensity during these games, and the packed house of mixed fans in Chicago was frenzied for every game. The “Subway Series” between the Yankees and Mets is as feverishly-anticipated as any series in baseball, and every game was a battle to the end. Overall, attendance for these interleague games is higher than the average regular season figures, and that’s no accident. Basically, the chance to see players that fans don’t normally get to see at their home parks, the opportunity for intra-city or intra-state bragging rights creates tangible interest for fans, and experience in adjusting to playing different teams under a different set of rules is valuable experience for the teams involved. What else could you ask for during May, before pennant races heat up? Not to mention, baseball is a sport that’s as important in regards to off-field debate as it is in regards to on-field results. Interleague play creates interest in the game, and hopefully it will continue for the foreseeable future.

Why is billy packer considered a better college basketball analyst than bill raftery

Every year around this time I ask myself the same question – why is Billy Packer the lead analyst for CBS’s coverage of March Madness? While Packer is working the game for the TV audience, Bill Raftery is calling the game for the much smaller radio audience with more passion, knowledge, and love for the game than Packer. Raftery and Verne Lundquist are CBS’s second pair to Packer and Jim Nantz, who have been number one for the past 15 years. Packer seems to be hated by more fans than he is loved, mostly for his intense ACC bias (particularly towards his Alma matter Wake Forest), his refusal to accept mid-major conferences as worthy competition for power conferences, and his inability to admit when he is wrong. Raftery, on the other hand, is revered for his enthusiastic and animated commentary that displays his love for the game. Packer has repeatedly insulted others with his unwarranted criticism. In 1996 Packer described the Georgetown Hoyas star guard Allen Iverson as a "tough monkey". He also questioned Larry Bird’s Indiana State team, Jameer Nelson’s St. Joseph’s team, and this year’s George Mason team for getting too much respect from the selection committee as mid-majors. Each went on to prove Packer wrong in the tournament, yet Packer will not publicly admit to it or apologize for his comments. In direct contrast, the fun-loving Raftery is best known for catch phrases such as “[team] is going MAN to MAN”, “Send it in, Jerome", "With the kiss”, and my personal favorite, "Onions!" Raftery is also extremely intelligent when it comes to his basketball IQ. From 1970 to 1982, Raftery was the head coach of Seton Hall University where to he led them to four ECAC post-season tournaments and two NIT appearances What are you waiting for CBS? Pull the plug on Packer and give the fans what they want - a more knowledgeable, more fun, and less bitter analyst! Disagree? Make your opinion heard! Rate and review sports announcers at Announcers. Why is it fun to go to the bowling alley

According to new studies, people continue to remain bored out of their minds. No matter what exciting thing happens to be on the news, most people's lives just aren't that dynamic. Well, these particular people just need a shot in the arm. There is an entire world that most people forget about soon after they leave high school. The bowling alley is this world. While you might think of the bowling alley as something that is frequented by middle age plumbers and electricians, you might not be entirely incorrect. However, there has been a quiet, almost 'underground' return to bowling as a new semi-retro activity. Here's a few reasons why bowling has continued to remain a steadfastly popular sport over the years and why you should think about returning to the bowling alley. 1)The modern bowling alley. This isn't your dad's bowling alley anymore! While there are certain timeless elements to a bowling alley (for instance the pins, the shiny shirts, and semi-stylish shoes), a lot of bowling alleys have had their lanes refurbished, added all sorts of entertainment options, and you can even have a birthday party at some of them. Visit your local alley to see what they've got in store for you. 2)The exercise. Bowling isn't all sitting down. Any serious bowler will tell you that bowling takes some effort to get that ball going down toward the pins. Your bowling skill might not take that many inches off your waistline, but it certainly doesn't hurt. If you are watching a movie, there really isn't that much interactivity with the screen. However, bowling takes some physical effort. Better to have more exercise than less. 3)The beer. Depending on the state in which you reside, your local bowling alley might have a bar that serves beer. This is clearly a benefit to anyone who likes to have some beer while bowling. We don't condone this activity as beer can definitely lower your score by the end of the night.

Why it is useful to use a broker

Tickets can be bought a number of places, no matter what event you are trying to go to. Tickets to sporting events, for instance, can be bought from the stadium ticket sales booths, from scalpers trying to get rid of their unusable tickets and by ticket brokers. So, why is a ticket broker the best option and why is it so useful to use a broker? Let’s take a closer look. Most people buy their tickets from the stadium’s tickets sales booths. While this is true, the numbers are quickly changing the other way. The stadium is the most popular place to buy tickets to normal events, such as a concert or football game, because they are the location where the actual event takes place. However, this can turn ugly if you’re trying to buy multiple seats within a certain vicinity or if you are trying to buy ‘good seats’ in a sold out performance. Here’s why: Most stadium ticket booths just sell tickets without considering families or multiple friends going to a game. When it is up to the booth, you will only be able to get what they give you. Sold out performances can often turn nasty at the ticket booth because the ‘good seats’ disappear first and those in the back of the line, no matter how long they have waited, can only get the leftovers. A ticket broker offers a better alternative. With a ticket broker you can wait as long as you want to buy a ticket and you will still get a great seat at a fairly affordable price. And the even better part; you won’t have to wait in any lines! Ticket brokers will also give you the option of buying multiple seats in almost any location from courtside (at your favorite basketball game) to front row (at your favorite theater performance). Another good number of people also buy their tickets from scalpers outside the arena. Scalpers though are illegal and they often carry counterfeit tickets. Since the action they take place in is illegal you have no protection whatsoever with your money. Plus, scalpers don’t usually offer that great of options when it comes to seats, not very many multiple seats for families and the potential risk involved with the purchase usually outweighs the potential gain. Why is it useful to use a broker? A ticket broker will be able to score you tickets in any number to any of a number of different events. Basically anything that needs a ticket can be bought through a single ticket broker. You can usually buy tickets on the internet, through the phone or in person at their offices. Ticket brokers are often on the speed dial of many people who enjoy good recreational performances but don’t like all the hassle that is involved with buying tickets elsewhere. Use a ticket broker the next time you have a need that involves a ticket or two.
