While the economy has been good to some people, it has been less than stellar for others. Many people are feeling squeezed between high energy prices and jobs that are always cutting back. NOW may be exactly the right time to start your own home-based business. Unlike a traditional brick and mortar business, you don't need to borrow thousands to get your home-based business started. You won't need to rent an office, hire employees, or even pay much tax. The next question is, what kind of business should I get into? Let me suggest you take a good, hard look at the travel industry. It's simply the largest business in the world, accounting for more than $5 TRILLIION in sales each year -- and growing by a whopping 25% annually. Now it doesn't take a CPA to know you can make a great home-based income even you just get the crumbs off that $5 Trillion table. And new developments in the travel industry are making that easier than ever. Vast groups of vacationers are joining together to create unprecedented bargaining power. Airlines, hotels, resorts, and golf courses are always in hot competition with each other. When a large association of vacationers shows interest, these vacation companies offer their best deals. The association will say "We'll tell our members to buy from you -- IF you'll give us your best deal." A luxury hotel, for example, will often let members stay for just $200 to $400 PER WEEK. Combine those super low travel rates with the vast number of people who are vacation these days, then mix in all the cold weather we've been seeing nationwide, and you've got a stampede of new prospects to tropical vacation destinations. Base your new home-based business on that huge trend and you'll earn some serious cash in 2006.
: Bargain hunters don’t only go to Chinatown for knock off designer handbags, they also look there to find the best prices on bus tours of America. Travelers in east and west coast US cities have come to love the “Chinatown Bus” for their no-frills service and rock bottom prices. However, the bargains do not stop there. If you want to find the cheapest way to see the most popular tourist attractions in the US, try a Chinatown tour operator. Just as Chinatown bus service began by catering to the recent immigrant community, for years these tour operators have targeting their tours only to the Chinese speaking community. However, more recently they have been discovered by the broader market and are increasingly popular for visitors to the US and residents alike. Sayaka Singh who lives in New York said that any time she has family visiting from India they inevitably want to take a trip to Niagara Falls. She discovered several Chinatown tour companies online and has since sent many family members to the Falls with them. She said, “You can’t beat it, for less than a hundred dollars they get transportation in a nice motorcoach, hotel accommodations, a tour of the Falls area, and several other stops along the way. They loved it.” Several of her relatives then booked a tour to Washington DC. What to expect These are definitely budget tours, but the value they deliver is truly unbeatable. Hotels are usually 2-star level but they tend to be national chains and are quite adequate. Plan on something equivalent to a Travelodge, however many times the hotel quality is higher. Hotels are commonly not situated in the downtown core of the city or right near an attraction. In a style typical of tours throughout Asia, the tour itinerary is usually quite full. The pace of these tours is very rapid. You will see as many attractions as possible but will not stay at any one attraction for very long. This can be frustrating for people who like to linger or have time to explore. It is perfect for travelers who want to see a lot in a short period of time. People from all over the world go on these tours and it is impossible to predict the demographic makeup of a group. However, do not expect an “all-American” crowd. You should expect multilingual tour guide and many non-English speakers on the tour. Many people cite the mix of people as their favorite aspect of the tours (“I felt like I was part of a UN delegation, it was great!”). The tour guide will not give an in-depth narrated tour and will speak in both Chinese and English. The tour guide will also arrange for the group to stop for meals. This is usually simple fare such as a rest stop food court or a Chinese restaurant. How do they do it? $99 for a 3-day tour from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon; $85 for a 2-day tour from NYC to Washington DC, Baltimore, and Philadelphia—it is hard to fathom how they can offer such low fares. These companies run very streamlined operations and work on slim margins. The key to their model is that the tour buses are full. They tend to operate tours only to the most popular destinations (ie. Grand Canyon, San Francisco, Niagara Falls, Washington DC), and they sometimes cancel a tour if not enough people book it. Often these tour companies use charter buses and therefore do not have the expense of maintaining and operating a fleet of buses, something that may not really be their area of expertise. Since the tour companies run tours on a regular schedule, they are able to negotiate very good room rates with hotels. Therefore they can still offer low rates even during a busy time of year. They also save money by paying their tour guides very little. Customers are expected to tip the tour guides and this really their main source of compensation. What exactly is included? All tours include hotel, tour guide and transportation. Most include entrance fees to any national parks when applicable. Some also include admission to attractions. Read the tour details carefully or inquire before you book if you are not sure. Optional tours can add to the cost of your tour and you should budget accordingly. Usually the tour guide will organize the optional tours for the group and you will pay the guide directly. How do I find these tours? Almost any city that has a sizable Asian population will most likely have a tour operator specializing in multi-day budget tours. New York, Boston, San Francisco, Vancouver, and Los Angeles have dozens of tour operators. Most likely they will not advertise in the same places that traditional tour companies do. Your best bet is to look online. These tours are a terrific option for travelers who want to see some of America’s most popular sights but do not have a lot of time and want a great value. For far less than you would pay if you went on your own, you can sit back and have someone else make all the arrangements for you. As an added bonus you will also get to experience a great diversity of cultures along the way.
Washington, DC was originally established by the Constitution of the United States in 1789. George Washington, the nation's first president and figure in which the city was named after, chose the land where the city would originate. The area adjoining the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers was chosen because it was already a bustling port for tobacco and wheat shippers. More importantly, it was an area that was centrally located between the North and the South. Washington D. C. is an amazing reflection of the nation it represents. As the capital city of a country, which is the biggest "melting pot" in the world, it truly does offer visitors a glimpse of American culture and subcultures at their finest. Leaders from all over the world convene in this city to discuss business and politics, as well as to socialize. As a result, you can find activities, restaurants, and attractions that not only provide insight and education to those who visit, but also offer a cultural experience unlike any other. Discover a variety of dining options that satisfies tastes across all palates. Where else can you sample Ethiopian cuisine, catch a Washington Nationals baseball game, and walk along the Potomac while the cherry blossoms are in bloom, all in one afternoon?
Copyright 2006 Jason Seib Thank goodness for persistent Pennsylvanians! If persistence helps make a mark in history, then it is a worthwhile virtue. That’s what Abraham Erb went out to prove when he and his wife left their Pennsylvania home and settled in a marshy and swampy lot in Upper Canada. Decades later, this swampy lot gave birth to the village of Waterloo. Even his brother, John tried to persuade him to move to the Grand Speed River region, but Abraham said no and chose to stay, convinced that he could clear the land in time. And he did. By 1808 Abraham built a saw mill and less than ten years later constructed a grist mill. The swamp land that he settled in was soon turning into a valuable area. Developments were on the upswing. From swamp land to sawmill town to village, Waterloo before the 1870s was becoming a retail and commercial centre. Today, Waterloo “is at its best” – that’s what the city chose as a slogan and it isn’t difficult to justify that claim. Waterloo is an hour’s drive from Toronto (about 65 miles) and six hours from Montreal, Quebec. For reaching US border crossings, it is a three-hour drive from Detroit and about an hour and a quarter’s drive from Niagara Falls. Like Festivals? Come to Waterloo The city can’t promise to host a festival every week, but what if we said it has one just about every month? And what if we also said that attending these merry gatherings were “toll-free”? That sounds like a deal isn’t it? Mind you, for a town of 110,800 people, you’d think that it would be more low key. Not Waterloo. It is alive with activity and as the municipality reminds us, this is Waterloo…at its best! For samplers – February is Ice Dogs Month. You’re treated to every conceivable activity relating to ice – ice sculpture displays and dog sled contests. April is a tribute to Earth Day so there are awareness programs for the entire family. May is Mothers’ month, so Waterloo has scheduled the Waterloo County and Area Quilt Festival while June will welcome the French association of Kitchener-Waterloo for St. John the Baptist festivities. The Jazz Festival is on for July and for beer lovers, Oktoberfest in October. BUT – for non-drinking families, the Spas’ N Spiel festival will make teetotalers feel at home nevertheless. …also Arts and Crafts Waterloo has got it all planned. For all taste buds, for all budgets, Waterloo has something to please everyone, resident and visitor. If art and history are your consuming passion, visit the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery on Caroline Street. The University of Waterloo is not only teeming with students, but is also the venue for the Earth Sciences Museum, the Peter Russell Rock Garden and the Optometry Museum of Visual Science. Let’s not forget the Brubacher House Museum. For more art and history possibilities, call City Hall and ask for Recreational Services, 519-747-8733. For accommodation information, click on city. waterloo. on. ca/DesktopDefault. aspx? tabid=429. This link will provide contact details for hotels and motels (there are about 15 in Waterloo such as the Radisson and Comfort Inn) and about half a dozen bed and breakfast facilities. Campsites as well for those who like to sleep under the stars!
Attention Travel Agents and Operators Do you or your company sell or deal with any of the following: Flights (airline tickets), hotel rooms, car rentals, travel packages, tours, restaurant reservations, attraction or special event tickets, ferries, travel insurance, cruises, public transportation, train tickets, or currency exchange? If you work in the travel industry then that was a pretty redundant question, but why am I asking it? I am not trying to waste your time, in fact I am trying to save you time. I will ask you one more question, and this time it is important. How many different pieces of software do you use to offer your services to you clients? Making multiple searches to find the best deals for your customers is now a thing of the past. There is a new piece of travel reservation software which provides an end to end solution for all types of travel companies: travel agencies, tour operators, inbound, outbound, charter operators, congress organizers and more. Currently the hottest selling online travel reservation software is called Gilboa by Galor. Galor is one of the older travel agent management system producers. They have been around since 1989 and their travel reservation software is used by 700 clients and over 6000 users in over 22 countries. What makes Galor’s software so special is that it can interface with all of the Global Distribution Systems like Sabre, Amadeus, WorldSpan, and Galileo. It also integrates website and online bookings, comes with financial tools specific to the travel industry, and can handle wholesale, in-house and tailor made bookings. This article is about informing you that there are other options out there for travel reservation software. There is no longer the need to rely on several systems, which waste valuable time with multiple searches. There is now travel reservation software that works with the GDS’s, and with the private charters and specials that you have worked out directly with other travel companies. You can throw away all your binders because the records you need can be found indexed and researched on your computer. These programs are scalable so that they can work with both small and large travel companies. If you are a small company looking to expand, this is the perfect answer because the software can help in expansion and you won’t have to find new software once your client base grows. If you are a large travel network or company, reducing your travel reservation software to one program is a great way to save time and money. One piece of travel reservation software means less training and more uniformity no matter what size your business is. A little research today can help your travel business for years to come.

One of the most critical accessories of a digital camera is perhaps its batteries. There are some digital cameras where the battery life is so limited that it drains with only a couple of hours’ shooting. Yet there are also digital cameras which are famous for its batter life which simply goes on and on. Thus it is important to know your camera usage methods which can then lean you on to the type of battery you will need for your camera. There are basically two types of digital camera batteries. One is the standard AA type and the other is rechargeable. The latter is also known as a proprietary battery as it made by the same manufacturer. A proprietary type of battery is comparatively more expensive, lighter in weight and more tight and compact. The cost makes the purchase of one or two back-ups slightly prohibitory. The standard alkaline AA size batteries usually have a very short life – at times even less than an hour, when used in a digital camera. These batteries make good back-ups, especially if you are traveling. A better option would be to use the Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries for digital cameras, with a charger. This rechargeable option has a longer life and comes at an affordable price. The other two types of AA size batteries are : the Lithium batteries, which can not be recharged and the rechargeable Nickel Cadmium (NiCD) batteries. The Lithium digital camera batteries last longer than mere alkaline batteries, as well as have a good performance in cold weather. Yet their price and non-chargeability reduce the appeal in comparison to NiMH batteries. It is important to ensure that your digital camera can load a lithium battery. The advantage of a NiCD battery is that it can retain charge when not in use while the disadvantage is that the battery needs to be fully discharged before you can recharge it. This can be very cumbersome and inconvenient. If you wish to conserve battery life, it is prudent to make judicious use of the LCD screen of your digital camera, s this element consumes maximum power when in use. If you going to stay away from a power source for a long time, it is always wise to take at least one set of back up. The standard alkaline AA size battery is good enough for this purpose, in case your usual digital camera battery packs up.
: Choosing the right casino game to play is very important. A novice gambler should not be playing games of skill such as blackjack and poker, and needs to be informed of what the other games have to offer. Slot Machines, in the days of the Wild West Slot Machines were known as one arm bandits because you could sit there all day putting in coins and pulling that handle without ever getting a win and the same is true today. Today's slot machines have more ways to win, so you probably will not go all day winning nothing but other then some small five dollar or less wins you probably won't do to well on the slot machines. If you insist this is the game for you try to remember that the more the machine is the better the odds of you getting a bigger win. Roulette, this is a good game for the beginner with just a little bit of knowledge you can play roulette because it requires no real skill or experience. The only thing you need to know are the procedures to playing in a casino, and the different bets you can make. All of these things can be learned by just watching the table for a few spins of the wheel before placing any bets. By sticking to what is called betting the outside of the table you can give yourself odds as low and 1 in 5 of being able to double your money. Unless you have the money to risk it is not a good idea to bet the inside of the table, the odds are bad but if you do win it can be up to a 37 to 1 payoff. Keno, this is a game that older people and people with little money enjoy. Keno is basically playing a lottery that has a drawing every 5 minutes. The object is to guess which numbers the computer is going to select. Depending on how many numbers you get right and how much you paid for the game winning can pay up to 1 million dollars. Craps, even though Roulette may be easier to play for a novice player, it offers the best odds for the player in the casino. To most people who have never played craps before it can seem like a very difficult game, but after watching a few rounds of the game for a bit you will quickly pick up on how to bet, and most players say of all the most Popular Casino Games craps is much easier to win larger sums of money in the casino. Poker an Blackjack are two games that should be avoided by beginner gamblers, the games rely on more skill then luck, and by not knowing the game you will also be messing up the other players who know what they are doing, and they are counting on the fact that if you sit down at the table with them that you know what to do. If it is these games that interest you then before you go to the casino spend some time learning the game and playing as many hands either in an online casino practice room or you can download one of the many programs available on the internet.
Airlines don't guarantee their schedules, and you should realize this when planning your trip. There are many things that can-and often do-make it impossible for flights to arrive on time. Some of these problems, like bad weather, air traffic delays, and mechanical repairs, are hard to predict and beyond the airlines' control. If your flight is delayed, try to find out how late it will be. But keep in mind that it is sometimes difficult for airlines to estimate the total duration of a delay during its early stages. In so-called "creeping delays," developments occur which were not anticipated when the carrier made its initial estimate of the length of the delay. Weather that had been forecast to improve can instead deteriorate, or a mechanical problem can turn out to be more complex than initially determined. If the problem is with local weather or air traffic control, all flights will probably be late and there's not much you or the airline can do to speed up your departure. If there's a mechanical problem with the plane for your particular flight or if the crew is delayed on an incoming flight, you might be better off trying to arrange another flight, as long as you don't have to pay a cancellation penalty or higher fare for changing your reservations. (It is sometimes easier to make such arrangements from your cell phone than at a ticket counter.) If you find a flight on another airline, ask the first airline to endorse your ticket to the new carrier; this could save you a fare increase. Remember, however, that there is no rule requiring them to do this. Persistence can pay big dividends and get you to your destination on time. If your flight is canceled, most airlines will rebook you on the first flight of theirs to your destination on which space is available, at no additional charge. If this involves a significant delay find out if another carrier has space, and ask the first airline to endorse your ticket. Finding extra seats may be difficult, however, especially over holidays and other peak travel times. Each airline has its own policies about what it will do for delayed passengers waiting at the airport; there are no federal requirements. If you are delayed, ask the airline staff if they will pay for meals or a phone call. Some airlines, often those charging very low fares, do not provide any amenities to stranded passengers. Others may not offer amenities if the delay is caused by bad weather or something else beyond the airline's control. Contrary to popular belief, airlines are not required to compensate passengers whose flights are delayed or canceledpensation is required by law only when you are "bumped" from a flight that is oversold. Airlines almost always refuse to pay passengers for financial losses resulting from a delayed flight. If the purpose of your trip is to close a potentially lucrative business deal, to give a speech or lecture, to attend a family function, or to be present at any time-sensitive event, you might want to allow a little extra leeway and take an earlier flight. In other words, airline delays and cancellations aren't unusual, and defensive counter - planning is a good idea when time is your most important consideration. When booking your flight remember that a departure early in the day is less likely to be delayed than a later flight, due to "ripple" effects throughout the day. Also, if an early flight does get delayed or canceled, you have more rerouting options. If you book the last flight of the day and it is canceled, you could get stuck overnight. You may select a connection (change of planes) over a nonstop or direct flight because of the convenient departure time or lower fare. However, a change of planes always involves the possibility of a misconnection. If you have a choice of connections and the fares and service are equivalent, choose the one with the least-congested connecting airport, so it will be easier to get to your second flight. You may wish to take into consideration the potential for adverse weather if you have a choice of connecting cities. When making your reservation for a connection, always check the amount of time between flights. Ask yourself what will happen if the first flight is delayed; if you don't like the answer, pick another flight or ask the agent to "construct" a connection that allows more time.

The term “boutique hotel” has been widely used in recent years, but what does it mean and why should you stay in one? There are lots of companies that claim to specialise in boutique hotels. For many, a boutique hotel is simply one that’s not part of a national or international chain and that distinguishes itself by its design, location or additional features. Many hotels aspire to be a boutique hotel without actually achieving it. Overall, there are four main elements to the true boutique hotel: Size Large hotels can be cool, trendy and chic, but they can’t be boutique. Just as the word is used to describe small, design-led specialist shops, so it applies to hotels. Hotels that apply the term “boutique” to themselves or have it ascribed to them are usually small – certainly less than 50 rooms and in some cases with only one or two. Their size contributes to the atmosphere and service that characterises a hotel with a difference. Whilst size might count in terms of the number of rooms, it doesn’t follow that those rooms must also be small. In fact, a hotel than could easily accommodate 20 rooms might choose instead to create just ten, but make them spacious and luxurious, catering to the boutique market. Design When the first boutique hotel was opened in New York in 1984, by hotel entrepreneurs Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell, it was praised for its original design and quirky nature. Designed for those who really wanted to participate in their travel rather than passively take it all in, Morgans, and those that followed it, challenged the way we thought about hotels. Although Schrager would not now describe his hotels as boutique, the name has been applied to those hotel who followed in his footsteps as far as design is concerned. From clean and contemporary to themed rooms and classic elegance, a boutique hotel must have a clear design theme and attention to detail. Service The hallmark of an excellent boutique hotel is its service. Whether the hotel chooses to assign a personal butler to each guest, or just hires and trains staff to anticipate your every need, the service at a boutique hotel is really what it should be at any hotel: ensuring that your stay goes without a hitch, that you can get transport, opera tickets or excellent meals when you want them and making you feel at home rather than feeling like you’re a nuisance. Location Boutique hotels are scattered all over the world, from 24-hour cities like New York, London and Rio De Janeiro to island havens in the Indian or Pacific Oceans. What often sets them apart are the buildings that contain them. From former plantation houses to old textile mills, towers and palazzos, the type of building often forms the basis of the design and it is the blend of architecture, design and service that turns what could be just another hotel into a boutique one.
