What will 2007 hold for the motor industry

As another year begins, businesses throughout the Motor Industry will be wondering what developments await in the year ahead. With house prices forecast to continue rising and with interest rates also likely to increase further will this mean consumers have less disposable income and therefore less likely to buy new or more cars? And will this have a direct impact on the hundreds and thousands of garages and motor body repairers? Whatever impact the economy will have on the Motor Trade, businesses of all sizes can take some simple yet highly effective steps to try and make 2007 as successful as possible. These include: 1. Find out what your customers actually want – it’s very easy for businesses to get into the habit of assuming they know what their customers want. However consumers’ needs and expectations are constantly changing and the most successful companies will anticipate these needs and will offer solutions to meet them. And when it comes to the Motor Trade it’s possible that 2007 will mean a shift from customers demanding low prices to an emphasis on customer service. For motor traders who have always focused on providing quality service this can only be a good thing. 2. Being aware of the industry as a whole – from manufacturers being forced east due to over regulation in the motor industry to small garages and body repairers understanding the impact new government “pay as you drive” proposals could have on the future of our roads anyone within the motor trade has a duty to know what is going on. Trade magazines, general gossip and just keeping your ear to the ground can often be used to make sure you stay in touch and have a competitive advantage. Finally, whatever part of the Motor Trade you work in 2007 promises to be yet another tough but exciting time so finish the turkey, have a relaxing new year and I hope 2007 proves to be happy and successful.

What you need to consider when buying cool cars

What You Need To Consider When Buying Cool Cars If you are one of those people who are planning to buy cool cars, you should make it a point to do your homework first before you head for the car dealer’s place. Always remember that cool cars can be quite expensive and if you are not careful with your choices, you could end up with something that is not really worth your hard earned money. To help you choose the right cool car, here are some tips for you. Brand New Versus Used Cars The first thing that you need to do if you want to buy cool cars is to decide whether you want a brand new one or a used one. Both brand new and used cars have their own advantages and disadvantages so you should be able to look closely into these things before you attempt to buy your dream car. Always remember that comparing the advantages and disadvantages of brand new and used cars will help you make an intelligent decision as to which one you will buy. Consult Your Budget Since money plays a vital role in your selection for cool cars, you will need to take into consideration your budget. Note that brand new cool cars can cost considerably higher than their used counterparts. However, the good news about brand new cars is that brand new cars have lesser maintenance cost compared to the used cars so if you are very much concerned about your future maintenance expenses, getting a brand new cool car may be a better option for you. On the other hand, if you are more concerned about saving money on the purchase cost of your cool car, a used car which is in good running condition may be more appropriate for you. Select A Good Brand Once you have made up your mind whether to buy a used car or a brand new car, the next step would be to study the different brands of cars. Note that different brands of cool cars have their own special features so it would be wise to determine first what features you want in your car and then select a car brand that can give you the utmost satisfaction. To help you select the right car brand, go to the websites of these companies. You may also read reviews about the products of these companies. The good thing about reading reviews about different brands of cool cars is that you will be able to easily compare these brands.

What you should know about motorcycle helmet visor

Having a helmet on when riding a motorcycle is just one of the things that the person needs to protect the head when one is cruising along the road. The individual will soon discover that having a visor is important because this can protect the eyes from wind, dust, dirt, rain, insects and debris that may be thrown from the vehicle ahead. There are two types of visors that can be purchased for the helmet. The first is the detachable kind while the other is already built in. The one needed will really depend on the road conditions one faces everyday and the type of bike one is using. For instance, motorbikes that have a windshield will only need the type that will protect the eyes. Those who don’t should probably get the face shield type since this will provide cover for the entire face. Most of the visors out in the market are made of plastic. The individual should probably choose the kind that is transparent and not tinted since this could pose a problem when riding the motorcycle at night. It is also a good idea to choose the kind that allows air to pass through inside so that it will not fog. People who prefer the transparent one should find a helmet that is big enough to accommodate the sunglasses one will be using especially when it is sunny outside. The pair worn should be shatterproof and free of scratches since could also pose problems when keeping an eye on the road. The person does not have to buy the same brand of visor as the helmet. There are some available that have made this compatible with any. All the customer will have to do is choose which model and the color of the shield. These are usually available in black, white or smoke. The average price of a visor in the market today is less than $20 a piece. The individual can check out the local sporting goods store or order this item online. Riding a motorcycle is considered to be much more dangerous than driving a car. Studies have shown the number of those injured has gone up by 12% in the past year. Should the person still want to feel the thrill of having the wind pass from the front of the motorcycle to the back, it is advisable to invest in a visor. This small accessory could be the only thing protecting the individual against dirt or debris coming towards the biker.

Wheel dollies can reduce work related injuries

These days, health and safety in the workplace is one of the most important considerations for any employer, no matter what their field. A modern workshop is no different, and wherever possible, it is important to minimize the exposure of staff and technicians to any potentially physically harmful experience. One key area where a workshop owner needs to concentrate on in making the environment safer for all staff is in the movement of unwieldy items like tires and wheels, where the correct tools, wheel dollies are an often overlooked part of any workshop’s inventory of tools. One reason why wheel dollies are so often overlooked by mechanics is that the conventional wisdom regarding wheels is that they can easily be rolled from one place to another as required. This means that the garage owner can save money on buying a specialized tool such as a wheel dolly in order to carry out the task. Of course, the big problem with simply rolling a wheel from storage to the area where it is required on a vehicle is that the wheel on its own has no brakes. In saving time and money by not having a wheel dolly on hand to carry the wheel, a workshop operative can easily lose control of the wheel as they are rolling it, and have it either fall over, meaning that they could potentially strain themselves picking it back up, or worse, could lose control entirely, and send the wheel rolling into an important unfinished job in the workshop such as an expensive vehicle. Any damage caused in a workshop costs money and time to put right, so avoiding this should be a priority. By emphasizing safety and care throughout the workplace, an environment where accidents do not happen can be fostered. Fewer accidents mean less unforeseen expense, which means a greater profit margin for the business. Simply purchasing a wheel dolly could save you thousands of dollars in the long run when compared against sick days and lost productivity from staff injuring their backs picking up tires, and incidents where a wheel has been accidentally rolled into the side of a car causing damage to the body work. Prices start from under $250 for a simple set of single wheel dollies that are perfect for small workshops. ALC Keysco produces the ALC77788 wheel dolly, which includes heavy duty framework and hard wearing 4 inch castors that are ideal for a regular workshop floor. The dollies can hold around 1200lbs each, meaning that they can easily be used to move a full set of wheels around the workshop and into a safe area for storage while you are working on the car. The drawback of a basic model like the ALC77788 is that the wheels are not held in the most ergonomic position and getting them back onto the car can be a tricky and hard proposal, although this problem is well addressed by other models which hold wheels vertically rather than horizontally, making them much easier to load. A device like the Mountain MTN5575 is designed to make removing a wheel from a truck a simple task, as well as being ideal for moving the wheel around the workshop once it has been freed from its original position. Moving up to the top of the market, the OTC 1770A is designed for removing a two wheel assembly from a truck, and can hold up to 1500lbx, making it one of the most capable tools available. If you are finding that you have a lot of work with trucks, the right kind of wheel dollies will make your job much easier, and allow you to get the job done right first time every time.

When an unlucky break becomes a car breakdown situation

It’s a lovely sunny weekend in the middle of May and you’re off with the family on a day-trip to the coast. You’ve got a four year old girl called Jemma and a young son called Carl who is only sixteen months old. So, you make preparations with your wife and set off. The seaside here we come! Jemma’s quite happy with her new picture book and Carl sleeps most of the way. When you get there, Jemma makes her feelings immediately clear: ‘the beach!’. So, you buy a couple of buckets and spades, make sure the children have got sun-cream on and head for the beach. What a relaxing time. The kids are busy building sand castles while you sit back and take it all in. A little while later, Jemma spots the donkeys which have just been brought onto the beach, so you take the kids for a donkey ride. They love it! Some time later you start getting hungry, and the family is ready for a bite to eat. You gather everything, wipe down the children and take a walk into town. You find a little cafй with reasonable prices so you park yourselves for a spot of lunch. After the meal you all have a wonder around town, and as your partner is doing some window shopping you suddenly slip off the causeway edge. You hear a ‘crack’ and end up on the floor. Thinking the worst, you stay still for a few minutes. You don’t feel any pain straight away so, with your wife’s help, you gingerly get to your feet and surprisingly you are able to put your weight on your ankle. ‘Well, it seems okay’ you say, so you carry on walking around. After a while though, the ankle starts to ache and gradually over the next thirty minutes or so, you can’t put any weight on it. It’s starting to swell as well. Now you start to worry. ‘It might be broken’ your wife says. You’re starting to worry about the drive home when someone comes over to help. They call an ambulance for you and you’re taken to the local hospital. After having an x-ray on your ankle, the doctor confirms that there’s a broken bone and that there’s no way you’ll be able to drive. Your thoughts turn to your family and how you can get home. What a situation to be in, miles from home with your wife and two children and you as the only driver. You’re an RAC member but you’re not sure this constitutes a car breakdown? Technically it’s not, but you remember the friendly RAC Face to Face agent pointing out that the RAC will help if the driver becomes too ill or injured to drive, not just in a car breakdown situation. So, you call the RAC Rescue Centre and explain the situation, to which the friendly lady responds; ‘Fine sir, we’ll get someone to you as soon as possible’. ‘We’ll send a breakdown recovery vehicle straight away’. ‘Excellent’ you say. ‘Thanks very much’. Ten minutes later you get a text message telling you that help is about twenty minutes away. When the vehicle arrives, with your wife’s help, you clamber into the cab with the rest of your family. Thirty minutes later your car is loaded onto the breakdown truck and secured. You make it home safely and can’t fault the RAC for an excellent days’ work. What a great service.

When car insurance is your friend

Sadly, even today, people tend to be rather callous when the question of car insurance comes up. Many give the excuse that since they are good drivers they will not need insurance at all. However, road traffic is not what it used to be and you can never predict what is going to happen on the road even if you follow all the driving rules. THE IMPORTANCE OF CAR INSURANCE Why do you need a car insurance policy? It offers you coverage in the event of losses arising from traffic accidents. As an example, just look at the following. Let us say that your car was hit by a falling tree and got totally smashed. If you had taken out a car insurance policy, the loss would be written off by your insurance company. If this were to happen, you would be better advised to go in for a new car instead of trying to repair the old one. COVERAGE OFFERED BY CAR INSURANCE - Property Damage Liability Coverage: This policy type pays for accidental damage to someone else's property (for example, their home fence,) in a collision. The insurance can help people pay off the legal fees in case they have to deal with a lawsuit for property damage. - Bodily Injury Liability: If a third person is injured, this coverage takes care of it. It covers lawsuit expenses as well. - Personal Injury Protection (PIP): This policy type covers for medical expenses, lost wages and other similar expenses arising in an accident, wherein there is no serious bodily injury. - Comprehensive Coverage: This policy type covers for damages caused by theft, flood, and fire and so on. This coverage is very important as it covers non-collision related damages. - Collision Coverage: This policy type offers coverage for damages happening as result of a collision or in situations where your car strikes another car or is struck by another vehicle. - Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage - This policy type pays for expenses that happen as a result of an accident in which the driver of the other car has insufficient insurance coverage. - Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage: This policy type pays for expenses that happen as a result of an accident in which the driver of the other car has no insurance coverage causes an accident with your car. - Underinsured Motorist Property Damage Coverage: This policy type is applicable in case of an accident in which the driver of the other car has insufficient insurance coverage. If the other car requires repairs, your policy will help you take care of that as well. When getting a car insurance policy, check out the different types offered. Look out for car insurance that will cover you for a wide variety of things. You can buy several policies together. Look around for the best rates being offered in car insurance. There is no dearth of great car insurance deals if you look around sincerely enough. It would be a great idea to check with friends and family to find out which deals are worth looking at and which companies offer the best bargains. After all, you are looking at an option that will work out in the long run. Look at the bigger picture when you choose a car insurance policy.

When it comes to getting the cheapest car finance loan there is only one option

The only way to ensure that you get the cheapest car finance loan with the lowest repayments is to go to a specialist in car finance. While the internet is a great place to go for the best deals it can also be a mistake if you choose to look for the best deal yourself, there are many pitfalls that the unwary person can fall into simply by not understanding the options when it comes to getting the cheapest car finance loan. The amount of interest that you will be asked to pay on your car loan will vary from lender to lender and as such shopping around for the best deal is essential, however it can be time consuming and unless you know what to look for, it can be a costly mistake. A specialist on the other hand knows the business inside out and as such knows where to look to get you the best deal and the cheapest car finance loans can usually only be found by those in the business. When going for a car loan then take into the amount of deposit that you could pay towards the cost of the car, the more deposit you could pay the less you have to borrow and the more you will save as less interest will have to be paid. A specialist will also take into account the different deals that come with the cheapest car finance loans whereas you might be unaware of them, for example companies that offer zero or low interest rates might not offer the same discounts and extras that another lender may do and so in the long run you could lose out. A specialist will also be able to compare the cheapest car finance loans on the same principle, for example they will make sure that the quotes they are given are the same, either all based on a fixed rate of interest or based on a variable rate of interest. Whichever type you go for with a specialist always make sure that you know how much the total amount of the loan is going to cost you because even the cheapest car finance loans will add up once you have taken the interest into account.

When looking for a honda dealer let a specialist website gather the best together

When looking for a Honda dealer the quickest way to get access to a wide range of some of the best available is to go online with a specialist website. A specialist motoring website will be able to give you the website links to the leading Honda car dealers which you are then able to search at your leisure for the perfect car for your needs. Locating a Honda car dealer is so much easier when you are able to take advantage of a motoring search engine. This is very similar to a regular search engine which is used on the internet but is aimed particularly at Honda cars. The search engine will help you whether you know and have a specific local dealership or garage in mind dealing in the Honda car, or you wish to go further afield outside your own area. Along with finding and putting you in touch with a Honda dealer a specialist website will also give you plenty of helpful advice and information by way of reviews on the different makes and models of Honda cars. When looking to buy a used Honda this can be a great place to start your search particularly if you know very little regarding this type of car. Once a specialist website has found various Honda dealers on your behalf then you can start to search with them for the particular make and model of car you desire. A good search engine should allow you to search based on not only the model but also a minimum and maximum price and even down to the color. The listings that a Honda dealer will provide should include photos of the car you are considering with the very best showing off the car from all angles including the interior. Along with the photos there should be a very descriptive listing of the car. While you would expect the essentials to be listed such as how old the car is, how many miles the car has on the clock and service history, additional information regarding any extras should be available on the best Honda car websites. The majority of specialist websites will allow you to search solely with a Honda dealer but some will also allow you to conduct your search with private sellers too. Of course when buying a used car you do have to follow certain rules and apply some common sense. While all the top name Honda dealers and garages will have performed car data checks on any car they offer for sale, when buying from a small dealer or individual then care should be taken. You should always check to see if the dealer is a reputable dealer and if buying from an individual then make sure that you get their full name, address and landline number for contacting them before parting with any money. A specialist motoring website will be able to give you plenty of information and tips on what to look for when shopping with a Honda dealer for your used car and it is essential you take it.

When looking for a second hand honda get advice from a specialist website

When looking for a second hand Honda it is in your best interests to go online with a specialist motoring website to gather as much information on what to look for as possible. While the majority of people who sell used cars online are totally honest there are others that have no ethics whatsoever. You have two main options when it comes to buying a second hand Honda. The first choice is to make a search with a used car dealership that specializes in the Honda car and the second is to choose to go privately. The good side to searching with private buyers is that you can usually get a used car a lot cheaper than with a car dealership. However there are many factors you have to be aware of such as making sure the seller is who they say they are and the car is legitimate. Many of the cars that are stolen turn up online as used cars, as do vehicles that have a loan attached which the seller is trying to foist onto the new buyer. A specialist website will be able to tell you how to make a car data check so you can be sure that the second hand Honda you are considering buying is legitimate and it is the only real way of being totally sure. If you choose to conduct a search with a second hand Honda dealer then you stand a better chance of being safe in the knowledge that the car has had a car data check. A dealer will almost certainly do this before listing any car and the choices of used Honda will be larger than if you choose to go privately. Whichever choice you make you can conduct a search a lot easier if you go with a specialist motoring website as they will have all the tools to make your search quicker. One of the best tools when it comes to searching for a specific model and make in the second hand Honda range is the search tool, this is very similar to some of the popular search engines but more specialized. A specialist’s search engine will allow you to tailor your search to specific criteria. This can narrow down the time spent searching and allows you to concentrate on cars within your price range for example. You should be able to search based on how much you wish to spend, the area you want to travel, the make and model, any extras and even down to the color. A used car website will not only be able to offer the tools for you to make your search for a second hand Honda but will also offer advice, hints, tips and articles on all aspects of used cars. You should make good use of this information when it comes to researching the make and model of Honda you are considering buying. By doing so you can get a rough idea of what the asking price is for the car and what the good and bad points of the particular model are.

When shopping for a new car make sure to shop for the best insurance rates as well

Most people spend more time shopping for their car than they do shopping for the best auto insurance rates. This is a mistake. As a smart consumer, you need to allot time for getting the best rate for your insurance. Your three goals are getting the best insurance rates, getting the best financing and getting the best price. If you don't shop around for the best rate your insurance premium can be more than your car payment. I've seen it happen and it's not pretty. You are all happy and excited about your new car up until you find out how much the insurance is going to cost you. Then you struggle just to make the insurance payments. Or worse, you cut coverages to keep within your budget. For example, having the highest deductible, $1,000-$2,000. It's not hard to shop around for the best rate either. There are several comparison sites that will give you several quotes from multiple insurance companies to make sure you get the best rate. Use them. It only takes 10-15 minutes and it can save you from plenty of financial headaches. Just like the Geico commerical says, "15 minutes could save you 15% or more," 15 minutes on a insurance comparison site will guarantee you get the best car insurance rates available. When you do shop around, always be sure to have a copy of your current policy available for comparison. This will make getting the quote as painless as possible. That way you compare all the coverages and make sure you are getting the same discounts with the new company as the old one. One thing that can surprise you is monthly payment fees so be on the lookout for these. Some companies charge you a monthly fee when you make monthly payments, maybe $3-$4 a month. That's an extra $36-$48 a year you need to factor into your comparisons. There's nothing like thinking you're getting a great deal only to find out it's a good deal once all the dust is settled and you get your new policy. If you're only going to save a few dollars a month after you switch to the new company maybe it's best to stay put. Sometimes you will lose loyalty discounts with your current company that you won't get with the new company. Or the customer service or claims service is great at the current company. These days that is worth more than a few dollars a month to me so keep these small things factored into the equation. Shopping for car insurance is quick and easy and you may even save hundreds of dollars per year. All it takes is about 15 minutes. Make sure you put 'shop for car insurance' on your car wishlist when you go car shopping.

When tires go flat are you ready to roll

These days, when you get a flat tire, you'll probably just flip out your cell phone and make a service call. Still, the time may come when that won't be possible. There may come a day when you actually have to do that dreaded deed: get out of your car and change the tire yourself. When that day comes, you'll want to be ready; you’ll want to get the job done quickly, efficiently, and with as little stress and risk to yourself as possible. Read on, and prepare yourself. Know the ropes. When you're actually faced with changing a tire on a dark roadside, you won't want to be reading an instruction manual. One of the best ways to prepare yourself is to make a dry-run at changing a tire in a place and at a time that is convenient for you, such as in your driveway or a parking lot. This allows you to familiarize yourself with the process in optimum conditions. Once you can manage it in daylight, try it a few times at night. Keep necessary equipment in your vehicle. "Necessary equipment" includes a spare tire (preferably inflated), a car jack, a brick (to wedge against a front tire, if you're changing a rear one), a cross wrench, an air-pressure gauge, a flashlight, a clip-mounted light, and road flares. To be especially well-prepared, extra lug nuts in the appropriate size, a can of WD-40, and work gloves are also a good idea. For the sake of convenience, store these items in a single bag or carrying case in the trunk of your car. Move the car to a safe location. When you're driving and feel the tire blow out, make a conscious effort to get the car off the road and away from traffic. If you're on a bend when it happens, try to get the vehicle to where the road straightens out; that way, you won't be in a blind spot for oncoming cars. Stay visible. Leave your headlights and hazard blinkers on. Distribute the flares, making sure that they're far enough away from your car to give approaching drivers enough response time to steer clear of your vehicle. Prepare your worksite. Gather all the rest of you tire-changing equipment and put it next to the flattened tire so that you have all your gear close to hand. If you've compiled your "emergency kit" into a single container or bag as noted before, these items will be efficient and easy to carry; you won't have to worry about dropping items and losing them in the dark, or having to make extra trips. Get down to business. Go ahead and change the tire, just as you practiced. Just in case, always remain aware of oncoming traffic as you work. Be ready to get out of the way quickly if necessary. Wrap up loose ends. Once the tire is changed, you can be on your way...but you're not done quite yet. Most spare tires are called "50-milers" for good reason. They're not made for long-term or high-speed travel, so keep your speed under 50 miles per hour and stop at the nearest establishment where you can have your original tire fixed, or purchase a new tire as a replacement. In the context of our busy lives, it may seem silly or pointless to devote precious time to preparing for a "what if" situation. We tend to think that our time could be better spent on other, more productive endeavors. When that fateful day comes, though—that day, or that night, when you find yourself stranded on a deserted highway with your cell phone on the blink—those few hours of preparation will pay off, and you'll be glad you spent them as you did.

Where and how to find classic car parts

You’ve finally gotten your hands on the classic car of your dreams, but wait a minute, now you have to figure out how to get your hands on the car parts you need in order to keep it running. If you’ve worked hard at acquiring the car, then it is probably a safe assumption that finding the parts you need is high on your list of priorities. However, you can’t just walk into a dealership and place your order for the parts you need because there is a 99% chance they are no longer manufactured by the automaker. Regardless, no matter what your taste in classic cars, whether it is for muscle cars, antiques or vintage models, if you know where to begin looking then with a little digging you can find what you need. Here are some places where you should begin your search: Online Auctions Ebay is a great place to start your search for the classic car parts you need. Just about everything you could ever want can be found on Ebay, or more precisely in the case of cars, Ebay Motors. If you find the parts you need this way you’ll have to pay shipping charges, but this is just a necessary evil you will have to contend with if you want the parts; however, if you are trying to keep your costs down you can try searching the local swap meets. Swap Meets Swap Meets can be hit and miss, and are probably not your best bet for finding the parts you need, but it never hurts to look. You may get lucky and find just what you are in need of, and even better, probably get it for a very low price. Classic Car Part Dealer Publications You will often find it very easy to find the parts you need in these types of magazines; however, the downside is that it will probably cost you an arm and a leg to get the parts. This is an option you should use only as a last resort, especially if you are trying to avoid breaking the bank. Explore all of your other possibilities first and if nothing pans out, and you really need the part, or parts, than do it, but don’t just make the purchase because it is easier than being patient and looking thoroughly. You may regret your decision a week later when you stumble across the parts for a lot less money somewhere else. Clubs and Organizations Where there is a hobby there is usually a club or organization to go along with it, and this couldn’t be truer of classic car restoration. By locating and joining one of these clubs you can improve your chances of finding the parts you need. This also allows you the chance to network and get to know others who share your same interests, and may even own the same car you do. If this happens to be the case, they may be able to point you in the right direction on where to get the parts you are looking for. Finding these clubs is as easy as logging onto the Internet and doing a search, so there is no excuse for you not to try. Junkyards Okay, so having to dig through the junkyard is a not so glamorous idea, and one that you probably didn’t consider when you bought your dream car; unfortunately, you may have no choice. But look on the bright side, it may payoff big time, and if you’re lucky, your local junkyard will be entirely computerized so that all you will need to do is make a phone call to inquire about what you are looking for. You may get lucky enough not to have to go to the junkyard after all. Whatever the case may be, you probably put a lot of time and effort into getting your car, so what’s a little more effort in order to get it running. The moment you hear that engine ignite and begin purring will make all the hard work worth it.

Where are all the hybrid cars

When hybrid cars first hit the market, they were touted as the vehicle that was going to take us into the future. Finally, every science fiction writer’s dream had come true – a fuel-efficient car. Why, then, isn’t a hybrid car in every driver’s garage? The answer to that is simple, and it has to do with human nature. You may think that since hybrid cars and other more fuel-efficient models have failed to become omnipresent, something strange is going on. Some people assumed that the technology would be in wide use once it was available because it made sense for the environment. These cars were good for us. Therefore, we would use them, right? Beets are good for us too, but think about how many people eat fries and cheeseburgers instead of beets. Fast food is more pleasant and it’s more convenient. When you keep this idea in mind, the reason why gasoline-powered vehicles are still so popular begins to make sense. Manufacturers have a particular infrastructure set up to produce a certain type of vehicle. To change this infrastructure would mean refurbishing factories, which would take a lot of money. In addition, manufacturers aren’t sure that, if they did refurbish their factory, the models they made would sell well. No businessperson in his right mind throws away successful products to rely on something untried in the marketplace. For another thing, the consumer has a particular way of behaving. He understands gasoline-powered cars. Perhaps he doesn’t want to spend the time researching how to fuel and care for a hybrid car. With every new bit of technology, there is a learning curve. Like the fast-food eater who doesn’t want to take the time to prepare beets and make them tasty, the consumer simply wants to do what is easiest and most convenient, not to mention what is the least expensive. There is another thing that needs to be taken into consideration as well – why people purchase cars to begin with. Human nature is not always straightforward. People do not purchase cars to get from Point A to Point B. If that were the case, we would all be driving basic-model cars. We don't drive these cars, though, because we purchase cars to gain prestige. There is no prestige to be had from driving a hybrid. There is plenty of prestige to be had from driving a Mustang, however. There is most likely a place for hybrid automobiles in our future, but change will be slow. Automobile makers will have to be sure the cars will sell. That means people will have to start demanding the hybrid cars already on the market, and they won’t do that until the cars become easy to deal with, cheap and prestigious. Hybrid cars aren’t in everyone’s driveways because they don’t satisfy those three core needs that human beings associate with vehicles. Until that happens, hybrids will stay on the periphery of the market.

Where did your car donation go

So you have made the decision to donate your old car to charity. Once donated, your car can have several things happen to it. The charity that you donate it to will decide how to process the donation based on the general condition of the car and operating order. Each charity will have different procedures they use to get the most value from your donated vehicle. You can check with the charity you are considering to determine what they plan to do with your donation. Despite the condition of your donation you will have a bit of planning to do before donating your car. First, you are responsible for determining the fair market value of your donation. In 2005, in the USA, the law changed so now it is up to the vehicle owner to determine what it is worth. The owner must also have written documentation for the appraisal to justify the value when asking for a tax receipt from the charity. If you are interested in claiming the car donation on your taxes you will need to know if the donation is valued at more than $500 or less. You will need to obtain additional information from the charity if the value of the car is more than $500. You must determine if the vehicle qualifies as a tax deductible donation. Most vehicles legal for public roads qualify to be tax exempt when donated. Also determine if the charity you are donating to has tax exempt status. Most educational and religious organizations will be tax exempt. Calling the charity and asking is often the best way to determine this. Now that you have all the pre pick up paper work complete you are able to arrange for your donation to be picked up. Depending where you live this can be handled in a few ways. If the charity is near your home and your car operates you can drive it to the local charity and save them the cost of having it removed by a towing company. Again, if the car you donated runs the charity may send a driver to the vehicle location and drive it away. This also saves them the cost of having it towed. Of course if your car doesn't operate the charity will send a tow truck to the location and remove the vehicle. Most of the time the charity will send a registered tow truck company over to the location to haul the car away. In other instances the charity itself will have their own towing service. In either case you may need to provide the driver with the car title before they haul it away. This will also limit you from any liability since you are no longer the registered owner. Discuss this with the charity when you arrange for the pick up. After your car is hauled away a number of things can happen depending on the condition of the vehicle. If the vehicle is in good shape the charity will have a mechanic inspect the donation and give it a pass if it meets safety standards. Any vehicle that passes inspection will either be sold at auction with the proceeds being used to support their organization. It may also be donated to a family in need that the charity supports. If it fails the inspection the mechanic will provide details of what need fixing. The charity will decide if is worth fixing the vehicle. Those vehicles that are not road worthy or cost too much to repair will be striped for any valuable parts and the remainder will be send to the scrape yard. The parts of the vehicle will be separated and recycled. The steel from the frame and body panels will be sold off as scrap iron. The charity receives the proceeds from the recycling facility less the fee for processing the donation. If you are donating a car that has sentimental value and you don't want it to end up as scrap you can talk with the charity in advance. The vehicle will either need to be in good working order before the charity gets the donation or be cost effective for them to fix it. Donating a car is simple and goes a long way to helping charities in need. Knowing the steps involved to get rid of your old junker can help make the process go smoothly.

Where to buy a used car

If you are looking to buy a quality used car then you have plenty of choices of where to look. Your local car dealer will often offer a range of quality used cars which will have all the necessary paperwork up to date and would have been tested. This is perhaps the safest way to buy a used car but often one of the most expensive. A more popular choice especially for those who know a little about cars, is to purchase from a specialist magazine or free ads paper offering used cars. Another way you can take advantage of buying this way is to use the internet. Besides the wide variety of free ad papers being available online there are also specialist sites who offer huge ranges of quality used cars. The beauty of these sites is that they all include photos of the cars which can give you a good idea as to whether the car is a really good deal or whether it is in need of a good paint job! Of course, buying this way can be a little risky as there is always the possibility of the car having been stolen, having been tampered with (such as the mileage having been adjusted) or if you don’t know anything about cars, then you could end up with a “banger”. The solution would be to get a Vehicle Data Check, which is a low costs service that instantly checks out the history of the car. This will show whether it is stolen, whether there is any outstanding finance on it, whether it has even been involved in an accident etc. This will save you making a costly mistake. Whichever way you choose to purchase a used car, never rush into anything. Always make sure the car comes with the appropriate documentation and make sure it is 100% genuine before committing yourself.
