Where to drive to avoid speeding tickets

You don't want to get a speeding ticket, do you and you are a bit nervous about having a radar detector in case it isn't legal? Well, here's a novel alternative to driving slowly, buying a radar detector, or just getting tickets. Go and live somewhere else. You see there is quite a variation in the speed limits in different states in the USA, and in different countries. Total freedom does not exist. Even in the Northern Territory of Australia they have fallen foul of some erroneous data to impose speed limits on the longest fast road in the state - until recently there were no limits except in towns. You can get a speeding ticket almost anywhere. In Germany, there are some autobahns without speed limits, but the norm is 80 mph, and almost all German cars have limiters to prevent them going over 155 mph. In Italy, there are speed limits, but in many places you can speed without too much trouble. But what about in the USA? The thing is to move to a state with a 75 mph speed limit. That means you should be safe to 80 mph – but go too fast and you are still in danger of getting a ticket. In some states, they even use helicopters to find speedsters, which can hardly be cost-effective. States with higher speed limits According to my latest information these are the states with 75 mph speed limits: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma , South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. Hurrah for them! Quite a few, but maybe not exactly where you want to live. Well, the second rank are the states with 70 mph limits – the same as in the UK. There are quite a number giving you more choice: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and West Virginia That's 33 of the US states allow you to drive at 70 mph or higher. Maybe those places don't appeal, and I must admit that the situation could easily change as oil becomes scarcer and more expensive – expect that to happen soon. Remember, it was the first energy crisis that brought blanket speed limits on freeways and expressways and motorways in the first place. In the UK the government said the limit of 70 mph was temporary. Now, with cars being so much safer than they were then it is clear that that limit, and the old 55 mph limit in the USA is well out of date. However, speed limits generally may fall again in the next five years. To help you keep out of trouble you need to: Know the speed limit wherever you are driving – not too easy with the way limits change every few hundred yards on some roads, and when you change from one state to the other; Concentrate on your driving, and don't accidentally keep going faster and faster on a straight boring road without knowing it; Watch for any signs of speed traps; Drive on the center lane on highways; If legal, buy a radar and laser detector, or at least a device that tells you where the speed traps are. You can still find places where you can drive fast and safely but a device that warns you of speed traps, which can bring those speeding tickets is a good idea. John Hartley is editor of endspeedingtickets, a website designed ti help you avoid speeding tickets. He has written from many of the world's top auto magazines, and has written many books about cars and the auto industry, including 'Suspension and Steering Q&A' and 'The Electronics Revolution in the Motor Industry'.

Where to find cheap car insurance online

Many people find car insurance confusing - and as a result end up paying more than they should in a very competitive market. The monthly payments – or premiums – depend on several things - your level of cover, the company insuring you and how much of a risk the insurance company deems you to be. The popularity of the internet has made it easier than ever to find, compare and choose car insurance on line. Most companies can give you a quote fairly quickly – in general, it will take from between ten to twenty minutes to enter the required information into one of the online application forms. There’s also usually a free number to ring if you want to talk to a person. Comparing car insurance quotes online Obtaining car insurance quotes online is fairly straightforward - although there are some things you should keep in mind. Not all insurance companies will provide an instant quote on the screen in front of you; some companies may email the quote to you or ring you at a later date. Some car owners don’t realise that even if their current policy isn’t up for renewal just yet, most insurance companies will allow a customer to cancel the policy, if they decide to switch insurance companies. In this case, you are generally entitled to a proportionate amount as a refund. One way to easily compare car insurance rates and products is to use one of several web sites which offer comparison shopping. Two of the better sites are the aptly named confused and moneysupermarket. Most sites compare the UK’s top insurance companies, including AA, Norwich Union and First Direct. How to keep your premiums down There are several ways you can reduce the cost of car insurance. Premiums are lower if you keep your car locked up in a garage overnight – over 50% of cars are stolen at night. Otherwise, try to park in your driveway, rather than on the street – this will also decrease the chance of vandalism. Make sure you accurately report the mileage that you drive in a year – don’t pay for too much mileage. A change in employment or lifestyle may mean less mileage – many people don’t bother to change their car insurance details when this happens. Having a car alarm or immobiliser installed in your car will also usually result in lower payments. An additional driver using the car may mean increased premiums. And of course, your past driving record also has a significant effect on the cost of your car insurance. Basic car insurance policies A recent – and welcome - innovation in car insurance is the concept of so-called basic coverage, as offered by both Tesco and Norwich Union, in an effort to simplify the often confusing process. Basic coverage also allows car owners to take out adequate insurance without paying more than they need to. Norwich Union’s product is appropriately named Simple Cover and is available online only. The product also eliminates some of the unnecessary extras that customers tend to unknowingly pay for. Another big difference is that the premium is payable in a yearly lump sum, rather than monthly. Tesco value car insurance is also available online only – even the application form is simpler – and Tesco has taken some of the unnecessary extras out, which can increase the cost of premiums. For example, Tesco value car insurance doesn’t offer a replacement car for use during repairs, or cover a broken windscreen. Shopping for car insurance online shouldn’t be difficult. With a little bit of research and the right list of web addresses, choosing the right car insurance can be easy and stress-free.

Where to find the cheapest motor loans

If you have found the car of your dreams then usually you will be faced with the problem of where to get the money to pay for it. As not many of us have the luxury of paying outright for it, the majority of us instead turn to a car loan or car finance. And when it comes to getting the cheapest motor loans then an online broker could help you to save money and time. While there are many options when it comes to financing your new car taking out a motor loan does have many advantages. Perhaps the biggest is that if you go with a broker online, they will endeavour to secure you the cheapest motor loan and the interest rate on this will be a lot less than if you take out finance through a car dealership. Taking out a loan means that you will have the money in your hand when you go to buy your car and this gives you a lot more bargaining power. If you pay cash, then many dealers will knock a little off the asking price on the car. Also, by choosing to take a loan independently of buying a car, you will have the option of looking around for the car yourself. This means that you can go privately for your car and the internet is a huge market place when it comes to buying a second hand car. There are many free-ads sites where private buyers will list their cars and if you know what you are looking for then you can get a great bargain. Another big advantage when it comes to taking out a cheap motor loan is that as you are paying cash for the car then it is yours from the outset, their is no chance of the dealer being able to repossess the car if you default on the finance agreement. Finally, if you ask the broker to go for a fixed rate interest loan then you will know exactly what you are paying out each month when it comes to the repayments. This means there are no nasty surprises if the interest rates should go up. By far the best way to get the cheapest loan is by going online with a broker, a broker knows where to look for the best deal for you which in the long run saves you a great deal of time and money.

Where to get online car insurance

There are a vast amount of online insurers that only deal with car insurance online and it is with one of these that you can get the cheapest deal when it comes to paying out your premium. By making a comprehensive search online – or by using a specialist online broker - you are able to quickly and easily compare quotes from many companies, however you should make sure that when you search for the best deal you take into account what is included in the policy. Policies do vary in what they offer and many online companies offer incentives to get you with them, this is when you can take advantage and make the biggest savings on your premium. Never just jump for the cheapest policy before reading the small print, while a policy might seem cheap if you take into account that you would have to add on to the policy this of course will boost up the cost of your premium. To start your search online use one of the popular search engines for car insurance, there are a lot out there and the majority of them will allow you to make a comparison for just one site by simply typing in a few details. Of course the first thing you will have to decide is the type of insurance that you require for your needs, the most popular types include third party or fully comprehensive. Which you choose to take will depend on many factors such as your age, the type of car you are driving, the age of the car and the amount of cover that you require. There are many add-ons that you can include in your car insurance, for example damage liability, breakdown cover and medical cover. While some companies will entice you by throwing in basic components others will charge you extra for adding these, so look around before buying. Once you have decided which type of cover you want and any extras you might choose then the majority of sites will let you fill in the application online. Filling in an application online is the easiest and quickest way to get your cover, of course you will have to answer questions for the company to base their quote on and it is essential that you give them honest answers. If you have points on your license then it is essential that you tell them this. Besides providing car insurance the majority of sites give plenty of excellent free advice when it comes to what policies involve and many explain the coverage within the policy, so you should always read this. However be aware also that many often hide exclusions and limitations within the small print so check this out too.

Which car did i park here

Don’t forget you’re the owner of that wonderful Chevrolet Venture; so get a nice grip on the only thing that would get it moving – your key. I am a proud owner of this great model, and this Chevrolet Venture keychain is a perfect companion reminding me constantly the answer to the question “Which one is yours in this sea of parked cars?” Keys are designed to keep our valuables safe. But losing our key is as annoying as having our stuff stolen sometimes. Owning a Chevy Venture makes me proud with this badge – a leather keychain with a round silver plate engraved with the model name. It reflects my car’s personality (and my own, too!). When this treasured possession got lost, I felt like I went to hell in a week. Before, I had no trouble explaining to a car park attendant which car is mine because my keychain has the exact model of my car engraved in it. By just a mention of the approximate location, like “It is parked in the second row next to the south entrance” and I am pretty sure he would find it very quickly. Within that week, I had this bad experience giving the car attendant my duplicate key attached to a Mitsubishi keychain. The parking attendant gave me a sharp, suspicious look. I nearly lost my cool to tell him, “Don’t look at me like that! I have all the registrations papers here!” When the thought of finding a replacement came to me, I Google-searched the item and my eyes immediately caught the image of a fine black leather keychain featuring my Chevy Venture. It’s a not-so-exact replica of the one I’ve lost, it being slightly smaller at three inches tall and 1 1/4 inches wide. It still features the Chevrolet logo and the model name “Venture” highlighted atop a silver round plate with a shiny white plastic backdrop. Every time I remember my experience which the car park attendant, my hands are moving involuntarily to tap my pockets. I am glad my new keychain is still there. Here’s another funny anecdote to make you value your keychain more: I had a dinner with my boss in restaurant downtown when it rained like Noah’s time. We parked his car right in front of the restaurant. Trapped in the rain after the sumptuous meal, we were forced to wait at the already jam-packed lobby for about an hour. We do not have umbrellas because these were left inside the car. My poor boss is already fuming mad, ran to his car with a plastic folder on top of his head. He was already soaking wet, and yet he can’t open the door. When he came back to where I was waiting, he was laughing loudly and I thought he had gone crazy. He whispered to me, “Oh my God! What would have happened if the owner of that car saw me? I might have spent the night in jail. Our ride is behind the car I was trying to open like a thief.”

Which is better leasing a car or buying one

There is nothing quite like the feeling of buying a brand new car. Most people have a few clunkers, and maybe a lemon or two as their first few cars, while they save up for a decent down payment for their dream car. Nowadays however, with every major car company allowing people to lease a vehicle rather than buying it, saving up for a down payment is not as necessary as it used to be. Leasing dropped into the car scene a few years ago and has been viewed as a life saver to many would be car owners. When you think about it, what person wouldn’t choose to pay $175 or $250 a month for a car instead of $350 or $500? Leasing prices are much lower than monthly payments, no matter how big your down payment is! Some companies offer leasing packages that almost sound too good to be true. However, they usually are too good to be true! If you are looking to buy a new car but you are dragging your feet about paying a high monthly payment, the leasing option is probably starting to look really good to you. If you do your research however, you will ultimately find that buying your car is almost always the smartest thing to do. I would say that the only exception to this is if you have moved somewhere for a short period of time for your job, or for schooling and you need a car. In these cases, leasing would be a smart thing to do, as long as you are not planning any long road trips. When you enter into a leasing agreement, you are basically borrowing a car from a company, with the understanding that if anything should happen to the car, you are 100% liable, and you will have to pay any damages. When you buy a car, the same applies, but when you own your car, you don’t have to give it back after putting your money into it! You also get the added benefit of trading it in for another new car when the time comes. When you lease your car, the lease agreement is usually for four to five years, after which you will have the option to give it back (once the car company has made absolutely sure it is coming back with no scratches or dents!) or to pay the remaining thousands cash down so you can own the car. Although the monthly payment for leasing a car is lower, it is still cheaper and better in the long run to purchase the car and pay a higher monthly payment. If you own your car, you make the rules, you decide if a dent or scratch really does need fixing and if it does, you can decide where you want to get it fixed. You can also drive as far as you like in a year, and not worry about paying for your mileage. Leasing agreements usually give you 20,000 kilometers or miles per year an you will pay a lot extra to be able to drive more in a year.

    Why a harley davidson motorcycle

There are several manufacturers of motorcycles around the world. The BMW for one, builds performance driven motorcycles for years. Japan-made Honda, Kawasaki, and Yamaha also have race winning motorcycles. Ducati is another motorcycle brand that is very popular around the world. But why a Harley Davidson? Why is Harley-Davidson so popular around the world? Why is that when a Harley rolls on the road, everyone will turn their heads for a glance? Why is it that when one talks about motorcycle, the very first brand in mind is the Harley-Davidson? Finding answers to these questions will give us 3 words: name, quality, and pride. Why are more plug in hybrids available

Considering all of the aftermarket companies that are popping up that will convert your Prius to a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), have you wondered why auto manufactures aren’t rolling PHEVs off the assembly line yet? I know I have. I’d really like to own a PHEV – the idea of a car that can drive around in town for 40 or 50 miles without firing its gasoline engine just seems really cool to me. So where are these PHEVs? Some people are accusing the auto manufacturers of dragging their heels, but the real problem lies in the same thing that powers your laptop – the lithium ion battery. You see, while a lithium ion battery usually does a good job of powering a laptop, cell phone, or power tool, have you noticed how these batteries lose performance after a few years. Heck, my cell phone is only 18 months old and its battery has gone from lasting almost 7 days to just over 2 days. In the world of automobiles, long term battery performance like that of a cell phone is completely unacceptable. Automobile manufacturers need the batteries to last at least 10 years or 150,000 miles before you start seeing them. Fortunately, several companies, such as A123Systems, are getting close to reaching those figures, so that hurdle is about to be cleared – likely sometime in 2007. The next major hurdle to jump is the safety of the batteries. I think just about everyone heard about the Dell battery recall last year. A battery that starts on fire in a laptop is major inconvenience; however, a battery that starts on fire while you’re driving 70mph down the Interstate can be a disaster. Lithium ion battery safety is the next big issue that’s keeping PHEVs from becoming production vehicles. The last one is one of simple economics – price. Currently, converting a Hybrid Electric Vehicle, like a Prius to a Plug-in Hybrid Electric vehicle will run you about $6,000 in parts, and that’s in addition to the premium you pay for the Prius. For production cars, you can initially expect the PHEVs to cost about $10,000 more than its conventional counterpart. Once production increases, that number will increase, but initially, there’s a much higher price to pay for a PHEV. So while the technology is nearly ready (a lot closer than hydrogen), there are legitimate reasons why you’re not seeing Ford, GM, and Toyota introduce PHEVs to the market just yet. They’re coming, and soon, but for you if you want a PHEV, you’ll either have to do it yourself or have an aftermarket conversion company, like Hybrids Plus, to do it for you.

    Why buy from government auctions

The following are few points of advice, which you must consider as guidelines to help you buying cheap cars from government repossession auctions. In government repossession auction repossession cars are sold at public auction and these cars are considered as second hand vehicles. This is the reason it is assumed that price of such cars will a lot less then usual ones. Therefore in these auctions the government is supposed to sell off the repossessed cars at low prices. But as this is an auction everything happens like a game, where each one wants to overtake other’s bid and therefore sometimes the price of the vehicle under consideration increases to an un-realistic level. So, when you are really buying the car, make sure you are actually able to take over the high costs of a second hand car. Take an advice of a person who is well experienced. There are some technical details that you may not be aware of but are extremely important while buying a second hand car. So with the help of expert person it will be very easy for you to take a decision to purchase the car you want. Further the prices of the repossessed cars are never comparative or directly related, so it will be better if you take a friend who is familiar with all this or an expert person along with you when going to examine the repossessed car at government auction. Inspect the car completely. You will see some unseen and unexposed defects which will help you in making the price a bit down at the time of auction. Initiate the bid with a with a small amount and if there is already an existing bid amount then just add a little more amount in the top most bid. In other words you just need to add a small amount to the highest bid. If this processes continuously goes on and the price of the car turn into very high or difficult to deal with then it is better you quit. The reason is there are so many other cars available in the government repossessed car auction and some of them are really better then others. Keep looking for the cheap and best deal. And once you are able to close the deal with your favorite car and the price, approach the auction authorities and enquire about the payment options to choose the more appropriate for your self.

Why do hybrids need low maintenance

They use less fuel. They are much more efficient. They are much less polluting. And what’s more, they require much less maintenance. Yes, hybrids really do score better on all counts when compared to conventional vehicles. In fact not only do they need much less service, they are also made to run better and last longer. So you should take all these factors into consideration when you are making a choice. Let’s take a look at why they don’t need as much maintenance. Firstly, they have fewer parts than a conventional car and hence, fewer parts to wear out. It’s the way they are built. There’s no regular starter and this technology means that there is one part less that needs to be replaced. No starter also means there is no chance of accidentally grinding the flywheel. The battery and the motor too do not require too much maintenance. The engine lasts longer than a conventional engine and requires as much maintenance perhaps as a conventional one. A hybrid does not need any valve adjustments done and even if there are valves, they do not get worn out because the engine does not run constantly. And the injectors do not need regular cleaning, in fact maybe they never need to be cleaned because there is hardly any deposit on them. The hybrid car uses electricity to run the air-conditioning system unlike the conventional ones that use a traditional pulley that is driven off a gas motor. So this means there is no air-conditioning belt to wear out. There is also no belt used for the steering because it is not hydraulic but electric. So it has very little kickback even when driving over rough, uneven roads. The hybrid car’s generator can multi-task. The generator is an important part of the hybrid car and there is a separate gas engine that powers it. A hybrid engine is really very small, maybe 10 to 20 horsepower and it is so designed that it gets maximum efficiency if it runs at one speed. Because the generator does many tasks, there is less wear and tear of the other parts and when braking or coasting, the car can recapture the energy. So there is no wastage of the battery and the battery does not need to be replaced very often. With the generator handling a lot of the braking – in fact 80% - it means that extends the life of the brakes too. There is also less chance of the rotors getting warped. Thanks to less of a heat build up, the life of the brake fluid is extended too and the brake pads last longer. Hybrid cars also have warranties that are much longer. Most of the Toyota and Honda cars have much longer warranties on their hybrids than on the conventional ones. There’s an 8 year or an 80,000 mile warranty on the Honda Insight while for the Toyota Prius, you’ll get a 100,000 mile warranty or 8 years on the hybrid system and the battery. These longer warranties make the hybrid an attractive buy. If you are making up your mind between a conventional car and a hybrid one, look at all the long-term advantages. Hybrids are built so they last longer and they don’t need as much looking after as a conventional car. Add to that the fact that they don’t guzzle as much gas and have fewer parts, therefore less maintenance and you’ll see why it makes good sense to decide in favor of the hybrid.

Why gas cards make perfect cents

Every business needs to keep an eye on their operating expenses when it comes to turning a profit. This includes such things as electricity, rent, and in many cases, fuel costs. Regardless of the size of your business, the rising cost of gas is sure to affect your bottom line. When your business is a freight or delivery service that is dependent on the use of many vehicles, why not maximize your profits by downsizing your fuel costs? Having your drivers and vehicles equipped with special gas cards can mean the difference between being profitable and simply surviving. Therefore, it is crucial that you keep track of how much gas your drivers and vehicles are using. Decreased gas mileage can be a sign of a vehicle in need of repairs, or possibly even fraudulent activity on the part of your employees. By making use of a gas card you can be protected against fluctuations in gas prices. As some places have price differences for gas, your drivers may be caught unaware if they only carry cash to buy gas. By using the gas card, they’re always ready and able to buy the gas, no matter how much the price fluctuates from place to place. Not to mention that you are able to pre-plan your route based on designated filling stations associated with your card. By having one simple gas card that is designated specifically for the purchase of fuel, you can very easily track the amount of gas consumed by your vehicles and at what price for which the gas was bought. These credit cards are sometimes also associated with reward points programs that allow you to save up points earned by purchasing gas and trade them in for prizes or services. Even a small business can rack up considerable points over the course of a year by simply buying the gas they need to buy anyway with a single gas card. The most common reward that’s offered is, of course, free gas or a discounted rate on the gas purchase. The gas company sometimes credits the business account for the rebate and other times offers the actual reward certificate through the mail. The ability of the business owner to keep all receipts for fuel purchased by different members of the same organization on one simple account is a very attractive feature. The statement that one receives every month has all the purchases recorded and also has a running total so you can compare the previous months’ purchases to the present statement. Many gas companies offer special loyalty programs for their customers or reward them for using the credit card a certain number of times over the course of a year. This is a loyalty program and is a lot like a points reward program. They want their customers to always return to their station to buy their gas and they like to reward this form of loyalty with special prizes or discounts. Lower interest rates are sometimes used as incentives to get customers to use the card more often during slower periods of consumption. Therefore, having your drivers make use of gas cards can save money and lead to better fleet management.

Why green is good for trucks

Today’s modern SUVs were originally based on trucks and with good reasons. Trucks are versatile machines, transporting soil from Home Depot; towing the yacht to the lake; to hauling family members, their belongings, and even a mid-sized car to use for jaunts to the local restaurant after parking the truck at one’s favorite camping spot. So it’s surprising that truck owners have not embraced hybrid technology. Who wouldn’t want phenomenally better gas mileage? But in some ways the reaction is understandable. The most well-known hybrid vehicle, the Toyota Prius, is not known for its power to go up mountains or tow even a small cart much less two tons of rocks. Trucks, to fulfill their duties, need power first. But ‘hybrid’ means merger and in this case, a gasoline engine and battery pack with the latter either supplementing or replacing the former depending on driving conditions. This combination can be tuned to emphasize power or fuel economy, many times providing both. The six-cylinder hybrid Honda Accord, for example, gets an additional fifteen ponies compared to its non-hybrid version while providing gas mileage like its four-cylinder Civic siblings. GM’s first full-sized hybrid trucks, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, are estimated to get an additional ten percent increase in their mileage. While this may not sound like much, it adds ‘high mileage’ to the pair’s already impressive list of features. But most importantly, neither truck suffers lost of torque for speed, hauling or pulling power with the hybrid powertrain. The batteries provide other advantages as well. The Silverado and Sierra can use their hybrid batteries to power equipment when on site, for example. Reviewers of the trucks for Automobile magazine found the feature heaven-sent when their computer equipment ran out of juice out in the middle of nowhere. Why haul miniature power plants or extra batteries when you drive one? Finally, some of the most powerful and popular trucks have diesel option which is not allowed in many states due to environmental concerns. Hybrids were developed to be environmentally friendly and hybrid pickups could be used in lieu of their diesel brethren in such states. Hybrids offer far more than just being friendly to one’s environment or better gas mileage. Truck owners, already driving one of the most versatile vehicles around, would have all those advantages magnified by a hybrid powertrain.
