Rent a truck for the big move

Thousands rent a truck in the United States every day. There are many companies where you can rent a truck of your choice. For example Budget which has more than 32,000 trucks and about 3,000 locations across the US. Budget is not even the biggest company in this business. The trucks of most truck rental companies in the US are of GMC, Ford, International and Isuzu make. The sizes of trucks available on rent are cargo vans, 10-feet trucks, 16-feet trucks and 24-feet trucks. Truck rental companies often claims that its trucks have an average age of two to three years. Truck rental companies also provides hand trucks, packing paddings, adhesive tapes, ropes, packing paper, mattress bags, padlocks, boxes etc at a nominal cost. Most of the rental trucks have air conditioning, FM radio, power steering, automatic transmission, power brakes, walk off ramps, lift gates etc and they are really comfortable. The rented trucks are often covered by roadside assistance. The internet websites of truck rental companies are full with information about types of trucks, prices etc. Most websites have a very user friendly interactive page where the pick up and drop off locations are mentioned. Online reservations and quoting rates are available on the sites. An example, if a person is renting a Budget rental truck from Atlanta to New York (approx 1,100 miles) on a Wednesday and dropping off on the coming Monday that is for 5 days. It will approximately cost $650 for a 10-feet truck, $680 for a 16-feet truck and $830 for a 24-feet truck. A car carrier cost will be $50 extra. Out of the above mentioned rates $150 will be refunded as deposit. The above rates do not include taxes. The extra miles will cost $0.56 per mile and an extra day will cost $56 per day if reserved before hand. If you add extra miles or days after pick up, the cost will be $0.70 per mile and extra days will cost $70 per day. It is prudent to read the terms and conditions before renting and a cancelation has to be made at least 48 hours before pick up otherwise you will be charged extra for the cancellation. At the time of a truck rental two things will be required, identification and U. S. issued driver’s license. Identification can be driver’s license, passport, Military ID, Social security card, phone bill, state issued identification etc. The advantages of renting a truck are many. You are in charge of your goods, the trucks are in good condition, it has usually many locations and it provides a low cost moving solution.

Repair shops ordering tires for your car

They go with us everywhere and they give a whole new meaning to the phrase of ‘being on the road.’ The tires on your car are literally ‘on the road’ everywhere you go and, when it comes time to change them, nothing but the best will do. The first step to choosing tires for your car is determining the style and size of your current tires and writing it down on a piece of paper. When choosing tires for your car, two of the most important considerations are quality and warranty. When purchasing any new type of automobile equipment or parts, such as tires, you should receive a clear warranty from the manufacturer. In order for this to remain effective, you must keep the original purchase receipt and follow any instructions as provided with the purchase of your new tires. When it comes to selecting a repair shop to order and install the tires, you will want to make sure that they offer quality service and have a reputation to match. In an effort to ensure your satisfaction, check out the shop’s Better Business Bureau report. This information, which is free at BBB, will provide a detailed history of the repair shop and includes the length of time in business, number of complaints that have been filed within 24-36 months and how many of those were resolved satisfactorily according to the Better Business Bureau standards. When you are ready to purchase, call your local car repair shop and inquire about availability. If the tires that you need are in stock, the technicians may be able to service your car immediately. If they have to be ordered, you will be given a cost estimate and an expected date of arrival. On this date, you should plan to be available for taking your automobile into the shop for servicing. Before agreeing to the order, make sure that you have everything in writing. When dealing with a transaction that involves both parts and labor, you will need to have a receipt that clearly shows the cost of the both the tires and the cost of the actual labor. This will help to eliminate any future disputes over a cost quoted and will make the transaction much smoother. And finally, when choosing tires for your car and a repair shop to install them, you will want to choose a company that stands behind their work. If a car repair shop doesn’t offer any type of guarantee on their work, consider shopping around for another tire shop. As a customer, it will give you great peace of mind in knowing that your hard-earned money is well spent with a company who appreciates your business by standing behind their own.

Repairing scooters ways to keep your scooter alive

Scooter owners will find their scooters indispensable, as they know the advantages of mobility that they enjoy. Hence, they also know the dire consequences of a scooter breakdown or damage and the need to repair it at the earliest. Repairing scooters may sound simple but there are various aspects that are included in the process. Reforming and Rebuilding If your scooter looks old and dilapidated and can be made good by just touching up the paint or make minor restorations then you need to take it to the repairer. However, depending on the amount of work that it requires you may even choose to do the little work yourself. Repairing scooters could also entail work on the engine. It could range from servicing the engine to painting or even replacing it. Care needs to be taken that the replaced engine should be one that is best suited for your scooter. Other areas that may need your attention in the form of cleaning, servicing and repairing could be the suspension with its brakes, shocks, tires and tubes; the framework which includes the speedometer, locks, bearings, battery, exhaust, lights, cables, etc.; and the fuel system with its gasket, valve, fuel line and tank. Replacing During the repairing process you may be looking at the replacement of various parts like o-rings, cruciform, condenser, gaskets, piston, rings, seals, bearings, coil, points, brake shoes, carburetor, stator, etc. You may choose to replace these parts on your own or may even rely on a professional for this. Whichever the case, you need to ensure that there is proper compatibility between the part replaced and the scooter. The person replacing these parts or repairing scooters should be extremely alert in order to undertake proper inspection, as he may notice that another part also needs attention. It should also be kept in mind that prior to the replacement process that peripheral area needs to be cleaned. Other Repairs Weak lights may mean that the magneto of your scooter needs to be worked upon. Again some attention may need to be paid to the tank too. Repairing that tank is essential, as gasoline that has settled in the tank may lead to grime, odor or corrosion. Depending on the condition of the gas tank it may need a thorough cleaning and a fresh coat or may be treated with acid. The fuel valve may also be replaced in this process. Besides, while repairing scooters you may also have to pay heed to the cable and the cylinder. Whether you undertake repairing scooters on your own or give the responsibility to another person the process will only be considered complete after the scooter is tested for performance.

Replacement auto parts where to find them

: When needing a replacement part for you car, where do you shop? Like many motorists you may head down to the big box retailer for all of your needs. A good choice both for value and for selection. Still, mostly any retailer is limited as to what they can stock. This especially holds true if you drive a rare or uncommon vehicle. Try finding a window regulator for your ’69 Torino at the parts store; they’ll get it for you but it will have to be back ordered. So, where should you shop? That’s up to you, but let’s goes over the options that you have. The Salvage Yard. Let’s admit it: there isn’t anything wrong with going to the junkyard to find the part you need. My ’78 VW Rabbit’s window handle broke and I snagged one off of a junker for just a few bucks. Still, if you are looking for a radiator, engine, exhaust stuff, or anything else that actually runs, you risk that the part will fail soon after you place it in your car. Naturally, the price you pay through the junkyard should be the lowest price going. Your Dealer. On the other side of the spectrum is your car dealer.

If they don’t have it in stock, they can get if for you. Service with a smile and a price that will make you frown! Yes, you will pay dearly for some parts, as middleman mark ups kick in. Your Retail Store. Retail auto supply chains typically have the broadest selection and the lowest prices of any of the brick and mortar retailers. Your best option for a good buy is when something is on sale; stock items will cost you the prevailing retail rate, but that is the price you pay for convenience. Overhead [buildings, labor] is high even with most national retailers. Shop Online. Wholesale providers of automobile replacement parts and accessories are springing up all over the internet.

Some stores are good, some are not. What to look for: available customer service agents; a toll free number where you can call someone to talk with directly; a store that never closes and has a secured payment site; and clearly understood shipment, payment, and return policies. Generally, an online retailer should be a great option as low overhead and purchasing directly from the manufacturer is what sets these wholesalers apart from the rest. Still, do your homework and make sure that the site is what it says it is. One special warning: the growth of the counterfeit parts industry is causing fits for retailers and consumers. If you suspect that you have purchased a bogus part, return it to the retailer for a full return.

One more good reason to learn what a company’s return policy is before you do business with them. In all, shopping for parts is easier today, thanks to the internet. From the ease of your computer you can compare prices, service, shipping options, warranties, and more.

The consumer is the winner and retailers are keeping prices low in order to bring in additional business.

Replacement windshields more than a dollars and cents decision

Chances are it's happened to you-an errant stone cracks your windshield. Now what? Replacing a damaged windshield is more than just a dollars-and-cents decision. According to a leading windshield manufacturer, your windshield not only helps protect you and your car's occupants from the elements, it also plays a major role in your safety. Here are some important points to remember: • The windshield is a key structural element of your car. • Proper adhesive selection is critical to installation and structural integrity. • Original equipment windshields meet federal safety standards. • The visual quality of original equipment windshields is first rate-not necessarily true for knock-off versions. • Knock-off windshields may not provide the same level of UV light protection, which could lead to accelerated fading of your vehicle's upholstery and interior surfaces. The windshield engineers at Carlite® have some tips to keep in mind at windshield replacement time. Ask for an original equipment windshield and factory-quality adhesives/sealants, installed by AGRSS-certified professionals. Laws in some states require that your installer inform you when replacing your glass with a non-original part. Original equipment windshields fit best and maintain the structural integrity of your vehicle, which is critical in case of an accident. Original equipment windshields typically have better optical quality. Distortion affects the way the driver sees the road-and other cars. Windshield wipers are designed to work best with factory windshields which have designed-in curvatures. Knock-off windshields tend to have less curvature, which can result in flat spots where the wipers may skip or not clear the glass as effectively. Knock-off windshields sometimes are made with thinner glass that can allow more noise in, which is particularly irritating to owners of upscale automobiles who paid for, and expect, a quiet ride. Also, an improperly installed windshield could pop loose when the passenger air bag deploys, potentially reducing its ability to protect the passenger. So when that stone chip or crack shows up on your windshield, be sure to protect yourself, and all those who ride with you, by insisting on a brand-for-brand replacement windshield like Carlite branded windshields. It's up to you to decide which kind of replacement windshield you want.

Replacing dodge mirrors for the winter

If you own a dodge you should read on, because many might not know the pain that all Dodge owners must go threw every winter. Replacing their side view mirrors. But luckily Auto parts Fast is now offering new discounted Dodge mirrors on their site. So go out and save yourself some money. With the heavy snow falls, side view mirrors are most affected in the winter, there no match for the snowstorms. Side view mirrors are called exterior rearview mirrors; they can easily fall off when the vehicle is hit by snow. But even if it doesn’t there’s a chance that their surface be broken. It is too important to ignore this factor, it could be possible that they fall off while you are driving, then what are you to do? Stop your car in the middle of the road? That can create a big accident, so don’t take a chance. Side view mirrors help you see what’s going on in the back of your car. It is so important that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) of the U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has set up regulations regarding side view mirrors. Per FMCSA regulation, all passenger vehicles must be equipped with a properly mounted exterior rearview mirror on the driver side. Further, the use of passenger's side rear view mirrors is also required for vehicles not equipped with a standard interior rear view mirror. Auto Parts Fast has come up with new products on their online auto parts catalog. Among the products are the new Dodge passenger side and driver side exterior rear view mirrors. So there is no reason to not be safe this winter. No more worrying about your car, go out and have some fun skiing. Enjoy the winter while it lasts.

    Replacing ford headlights

How horrible would it be one day to wake up and realize you don’t have any headlights? I think it would be pretty bad, it would not be safe to even drive your car if your headlights are broken or don’t work. Your lights are one of the parts that will last you a long while. But since they are on the exterior they are exposed to elements that can be damaging. They can loose their original luster. You can give your Ford vehicle a new fresh look by changing the grille, mirror, taillights, Ford hood and spoiler. It is really simple and easy to replace Ford parts, especially the lights. The reason for that is Fords popularity. A good place to look for the parts is Ford Parts Online; they are one of the most trusted auto parts dealers on the internet. So check them out if you need to replace any parts on your Ford vehicle. But let’s go back to your Ford lights. It’s quite easy to change them yourself, just follow my directions and you’ll be on the road again. First remove the exposed plastic or metal trim around the housing to get the headlight ring and screws. Using the right tools remove the four ring screws. Be careful, because it is pretty easy to strip them. Put some penetrating oil on each one for a few minutes. Also be sure not to turn the headlight-aiming screws. Once you remove the retaining ring the headlight will be free. Just unplug the wiring connector that is in the back of the headlamp. Then plug back the connector into the back of new headlight then place it in the mounting base. The headlight will position itself due to lugs in the back, but if it doesn’t then that means you have it upside down. Turn on the new headlight to see if it is working. If it doesn’t come on it probably means there is a problem with the wiring. You next step would be to replace the retaining ring. But again, be careful about the screws. The last thing would be to replace the trim elements that you had to remove.

Repowering utility carts makes green sense but does it make financial sense

Golfers at the Hindman Park Golf Course in Little Rock, Arkansa have something to brag about – they have the greenest greens in the state. Not the color green – green as in environmentally friendly. Environmentally friendly golf courses came to national attention about ten years ago, when the Environmental Protection Agency, the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA), the United States Golf Association (USGA), Audubon International and the National Wildlife Federation came together and created a set of guidelines for developing greener golf courses. According to the Audubon Society, golf courses are a natural place (no pun intended) to turn for wildlife shelters and habitats. The guidelines, published in 1997, offer tips and suggestions for golf course owners and municipalities that make the greens even greener environmentally. Hindman Park’s Supervisor took their suggestions to heart. He and his crew have put up over 40 nesting boxes around the course, and planted 100 fruit trees to encourage and attract wildlife. The intent is to add another 100 trees each of the next four years – all of which will grow without the aid of pesticides or fertilizers. The partnership between golf courses and environmentalists is a new one – but it shouldn’t be a surprising one. After all, part of the pleasure of golfing is in being a part of the natural outdoor world. Preserving that world so that golfers can continue to enjoy it should be part of taking care of the golf course. Throughout the country, municipal and private golf courses are taking their stewardship of the land seriously by instilling new methods of irrigation and greens keeping. While most of the attention has focused on designing environmentally friendly golf courses, the decisions that the grounds service makes every day can also affect how green a golf course is – and not by picking a new fertilizer. The engines that power grounds keeping and grooming equipment are one of the targets of environmentalist concern. The NOx emissions of diesel and gas powered equipment – particularly older equipment – are often well above the new emissions standards. Replacing older engines on machines like lawnmowers, sand groomers, utility carts and tractors can go a long way toward cutting down on the noxious fumes that pollute the atmosphere. New equipment must meet the new EPA standards for emissions control – but the price is often out of reach, especially for a small private course or a municipal course struggling to stay within the Parks & Rec budget. There is an easy solution – don’t replace. Repower the equipment with new, cleaner engines. For the cost of a new Toro Sand Pro, you can repower your old Toro Sand Pro with a new kohler engine, and usually have enough left to repower four Toro Greensmaster lawnmowers. If you choose to repower a Rake-o-Vac instead of replacing it with a new one for $31,000, you can practically repower your entire fleet! Choosing to repower doesn’t just make financial sense. It makes green sense. By replacing old engines with new Kohler repower engines, you reduce the NOx emissions of your fleet by as much as 70%. In addition, since you’re not scrapping your old machine, it won’t be sitting in a landfill challenging the Earth to break it down and deal with it. Green is a label that golf courses have always worn with pride, and now it’s more of a badge than ever. Make your golf course a greener place to be – consider repowering your old machines with a much more efficient, more powerful and more environmentally friendly kohler engines. © Ben Anton, 2006

Respect large trucks stay safe on the road

Passenger vehicle operators - not truck drivers - cause approximately 70 percent of all fatal crashes involving a car and commercial truck, according to federal government statistics. Most accidents are the result of an unsafe driving act, such as following a truck too closely or lingering in its blind spot. The following precautions will help you safely share the road with large trucks: * Beware of blind spots. Approximately 35 percent of truck-related auto fatalities occur in a truck's blind spots. Tractor trailers have very large blind spots -; as much as 30 feet behind the truck. Always try to pass on the left side; the blind spot on the right side is much larger (running the length of the truck and extending out nearly three lanes). * Stay back. When following a truck, try to maintain a distance of 20 to 25 car lengths. Driving too closely behind a truck gives you little or no time to react to changing conditions. * When passing a truck, do not loiter in the blind spot. Before moving back into the truck's lane, be sure you can see its headlights in your rearview mirror. Most fully-loaded semi trucks driving at highway speeds need 100 yards - that's one football field - to come to a safe stop. Leave them plenty of space. * Pay attention. Driver inattentiveness is the most common unsafe driving act that results in a truck-related auto fatality. * Heed the weather. Poor conditions make it more difficult to drive safely around big trucks. Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC reminds you that statistics show nearly 1 million vehicle accidents a year occur in wet weather. When it's raining, slow down, turn on your lights, drive smoothly and maintain a safe distance. If you start to hydroplane, take your foot off the accelerator (if manual transmission, engage the clutch) and don't slam on your brakes. * Properly maintain your tires. A tire cannot provide good traction on wet roads once the tread is worn below 2/32 of an inch tread depth. Check your tires regularly and replace them at the proper time. Don't forget to maintain the proper air pressure in your tires; tire pressure should be checked monthly.

Resurface don t replace your worn driveway

Your driveway is your home's first impression to the neighborhood. As the trend of remodeling older homes continues to grow; a cracked, chipped driveway is often a neglected improvement project due to the effort and expense of removing and replacing the concrete or asphalt. A more cost-effective solution is to repair-and strengthen-a driveway by resurfacing the concrete. Resurface With A Squeegee • With a simple squeegee application, the Quikrete Concrete Resurfacer provides a durable, wear-resistant surface designed to withstand heavy traffic on driveways, walkways, sidewalks and patios. In order to resurface a driveway, homeowners will need only a long handled squeegee, a five-gallon bucket and the concrete resurfacer, available in 20-pound pails, 40-pound bags and 80-pound bags. One 40-pound bag resurfaces approximately 90 square feet at 1/16-inch thickness. How To Do It • Begin by cleaning the driveway. This will ensure the concrete resurfacer properly bonds with the existing surface. • Follow the directions on the bag by blending the resurfacing mix with water until a pourable consistency is achieved. • Use a pressure washer to clean the surface and saturate the driveway. Finish step by removing any standing water. • Pour the mixture onto the concrete surface and then carefully spread with a long-handled squeegee. • Use the squeegee to scrub the material into the surface. • For a slip-resistant professional finish, follow within 5 minutes with a broom making full strokes across the full distance of the current work area without stopping. • Wait 6 hours before allowing foot traffic and 24 hours for automobile traffic (with cool temperatures allow longer curing time prior to use). • Protect from rain for at least 6 hours, longer in cool or damp weather. • Do not cover unless immediate rain protection is necessary. No sealer is required. *If interested in a decorative finish, add desired Quikrete Cement Color to product mixture. For thicker applications, use additional thin layers of the concrete resurfacer or use a trowel applied layer after the initial squeegee application.

    Retro vehicles is volkswagen next

: Retro styled vehicles are all the rage today and Volkswagen’s New Beetle was one of the first of many of these types of cars to show up on the market. Given VW’s long running popularity, other long since retired models are certainly worthy of being copied, don’t you agree? The Karmann Ghia, the Thing, and the Scirocco are a few that come to mind, however they aren’t the ones slated for a comeback. Yes, VW’s famous “Bus” or Microbus is scheduled to return, to the delight of aging hippies everywhere. Okay, first a quick test. Can you name some of the recent retro vehicles to hit North American highways lately? Besides the Volkswagen’s New Beetle, here are a few:

  • Ford: Thunderbird, Mustang
  • Chrysler: PT Cruiser
  • Chevrolet: SSR and HHR To qualify as a true “retro” vehicle it cannot just borrow the name – like the Dodge Charger – instead, it must take its styling cues from a vehicle from another generation. Enter the Volkswagen Microbus. Yes, open up your cedar trunk and take out those wild looking tie dyed shirts, your cavernous bell bottom pants, and that pair of odd looking leather sandals. Let down your hair [if you have any left], grow a beard [gents only, please] and be prepared to step back in time to the days when the VW Bus was the people hauler of the day. Peace, love, and stop the war you say? If VW has its way then around 2008 a vehicle very similar in style to the Bus will once again be seen cruising the streets of Haight-Ashbury, Greenwich Village, and every freaky place you can think of, man! Just, groovy. Featured at the 2001 Detroit Auto Show, a concept Microbus evoked all sorts of “ooohs and aaaahs” from visitors; it was this same type of reaction that has convinced Volkswagen to go forward with production. As of this writing, there is a battle raging within Volkswagen-land as to how much the Microbus will incorporate the retro look. Seeing how the New Beetle succeeded in the US, but flopped in Europe will VW have the courage to stand tall and bring back the hippie hauler? Or, will VW cave in and produce just another run-of-the-mill vehicle that only hints at its past glory?

Time will tell, but my advice to VW is this: get it built now before us hippie dippy types are too old to climb into it. Unless, of course, the Microbus can be outfitted with a wheelchair ramp.

Road rage study may help you drive safer

Road rage has become a way of life, both on and off the track. And more and more, in cities across America, people are acting out their frustrations on our roadways with dangerous results. It's bad for professional and everyday drivers alike. In a new study sponsored by the Affinion Group and its AutoVantage automobile membership club, drivers from 20 major metropolitan areas in the U. S. were surveyed to learn more about consumer views on road rage. "This new study focuses on important attitudes and habits of drivers on the open road nationwide," said Brad Eggleston, vice president of AutoVantage. Commuters reported that other drivers frequently talk on their cell phones (98 percent observe this at least once a week), run red lights (59 percent observe this at least once a week) and slam on the brakes (54 percent see this happening at least once a week). As a reaction to rude or bad driving by others, people surveyed reported that they honked their horn at the offending driver (40 percent), cursed at the other driver (32 percent), waved their fist or arms (9 percent), made an obscene gesture (8 percent) or called the police to report the driver (5 percent). Overall, 30 percent said they see drivers doing other things like putting on makeup, shaving or reading while driving. Los Angeles (43 percent) emerged as the city where this is most likely to be seen, while Seattle (18 percent) emerged as the place where this behavior is least likely. Bobby Hamilton, a spokesman for AutoVantage, was the 2004 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion after achieving four career NASCAR Winston Cup Series victories. He founded Bobby Hamilton Racing, which owns and operates three trucks in the NASCAR Circuit. The most courteous cities are Minneapolis, Nashville and St. Louis. Safety instructions about forklifts

Forklifts are industrial vehicles made to take the place of manual lifting and manual work. There are two “forks” or arms located at the front of the vehicle that are used to lift, lower, stack and unstack heavy loads. The loads are usually stacked on top of wooden pallets that the arms or forks fit into to bring a large quantity of things up or down at once. The drivers cause almost 50% of accidents involving forklifts. Normally, the driver has hit a pedestrian. Therefore, forklifts and people should not be in the vicinity of each other. Some other forklift related accidents include: Forklift tipping over and overturning Collision with other vehicles or stationary objects Part of the operator's body leaning out of the cabin and hitting an object The load falling off the pallets There are things that can be done by the employee to reduce the number of forklift accidents. First, the driver should always perform a pre-safety check of the vehicle before operating. Once the driver sees that all is in tact, while driving the vehicle the driver should use safe handling procedures of the load. This includes paying close attention to the load limit of each particular forklift. Since forklifts are a gas-powered vehicle, gasoline limits and storage should be carefully observed. In addition to safe fuel use, the battery also needs to be handled and cared for properly to ensure safety. Here are a few safety procedures that should be followed by all employees. Some of them may seem like common sense, but they are so important that they are in need of repeating. Passengers on forklifts to be strictly forbidden, unless there is a separate seat provided with a restraint Other people kept clear when forklift is operating Operator should take care when moving between artificial and natural light Load made secure and lowered to safe centre of gravity before carrying Sudden stops and starts are to be avoided No part of the operator's body to protrude beyond the overhead protection Ramps not to be used unless the forklift operator is trained in their use Operator to remain seated and secured at all times Forklift to operate within a designated area, separate from pedestrians Operator to remain in the cabin when a forklift overturns Most importantly: PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER BE RAISED ON THE FORKLIFT OR THE PALLETS IF THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO LIFT A WORKER, A PROPER WORK PLATFORM MUST BE USED In addition to checking the vehicle daily for safety hazards, the workplace should also be checked for the following: Power-lines Blind corners Pedestrian areas Low doorways Uneven floors Ramps Overhead pipes and fittings Confined spaces Adequate lighting Noise Above all else, a training coarse must be completed before attempting to drive or operate a forklift. Besides formal instruction, the training must include practical training (such as demonstrations) and an evaluation of the operator in the workplace to assure that he can operate the forklift safely. Initial training content must consist of both truck-related topics and workplace-related topics. Some truck-related topics include: operating instructions, warnings and precautions specific to the trucks the employee will be authorized to operate differences between the truck and the automobile truck controls and instrumentation engine or motor operation steering and maneuvering visibility fork and attachment adaptation, operation and use limitations; vehicle capacity vehicle stability any vehicle inspection and maintenance that the operator must perform; refueling and/or charging and recharging of batteries operating limitations any other information from the forklift operator's manual. Some workplace related topics include: surface conditions where the vehicle will be operated composition of loads and load stability load manipulation, stacking and unstacking pedestrian traffic narrow aisles and other restricted places where the vehicle will be operated any hazardous (classified) locations, such as flammable storage areas, where the vehicle will be operated ramps and other sloped surfaces; closed environments and other areas where insufficient ventilation or poor vehicle maintenance could cause a buildup of carbon monoxide or diesel exhaust; and other unique or potentially hazardous environmental conditions in the workplace.

Safety on the road begins under the hood

Car experts say that one of the easiest ways to steer clear of some serious road hazards is to make sure you're taking care of your car properly. Coolant issues are the number one cause of roadside mechanical breakdowns, according to the U. S. Department of Transportation, and there are an estimated 23 million cars on the road using the wrong type of coolant. "Using the wrong coolant can affect the entire cooling system," said automotive expert Dr. Dave Turcotte, technical director for Zerex products. "When it comes to buying coolant for your car, consumers should not be fooled by claims that a product is universal or right for all makes and models." Using the wrong kind of coolant can lead to radiator or water pump damage and even cause breakdowns. To make sure the right type of coolant is being used, drivers should refer to their vehicle owner's manual and carefully read the product label to make sure the coolant they're using is automaker-approved and that the make of their car IS on the label. To avoid road bumps, drivers should: • Use a coolant product that offers the right chemistry for each vehicle model; • Check tires for worn tread or improper air pressure; • Check to make sure belts aren't worn; • Make sure hoses are attached properly.
