What will help the san diego schools

Going to school is all about learning the facts. It’s also about gaining knowledge on how to interpret these facts and form opinions based on them. While many students excel academically, there are an equal amount of those who do not. And the number of minority and low-income students in the San Diego Public Schools who don’t succeed is way too high. It’s important to not only identify the students who are struggling, but to get them the help they need to succeed in school without feeling discouraged or stupid. Students attending San Diego Schools are among the millions of students throughout the nation who can take advantage of free services to help them catch up in school. While each individual school district offers a variety of programs to get students back on track when they need the extra help, can these programs alone meet the need? Free Programs at San Diego Schools San Diego Schools offer two interesting programs; tutor provider fairs, and live, on-line homework help. The homework help for students attending San Diego Schools is provided in conjunction with the San Diego Public Library, the City of San Diego, and tutor. Parents of students attending Program Improvement schools in San Diego Schools have been invited to attend one of seven tutoring provider fairs scheduled in July and August. This is key, because reaching out to parents of struggling students is often the answer. The service provider fairs give San Diego Schools parents the opportunity to meet and speak with the tutoring providers and choose the one that best fits their students’ needs. Schools That Need Help In many cases, entire San Diego Schools are the case in need. The federal No Child Left Behind Act provides options to parents of San Diego Schools students attending campuses that have been categorized as “Program Improvement” for a minimum of one school year. Under the act, schools in program improvement for 2 years more must offer these San Diego Schools students supplemental educational services, which include free tutoring. San Diego Schools parents of students in affected schools received a booklet by mail detailing the program. More than 30 education providers are expected to attend. These programs are approved by the California Department of Education. Live Homework Help is a free, live, one-to-one online tutoring service connecting students in San Diego Schools to qualified tutors from any Internet-enabled computer. English and Spanish-speaking tutors are available. San Diego Schools students, parents and teachers can connect to online tutors -- seven days a week any time between 1:00 - 10:00 pm. Students can use Live Homework Help whenever they need assistance. Currently, the service is only accessible on computers running Microsoft Windows. Work is underway to provide the service across other computer platforms, as well as within San Diego Schools themselves. Of course, that asks the question - do low-income students have access to computers? To use Live Homework Help and connect with a live online tutor, a San Diego Schools student needs either a valid San Diego Public Library card number and Personal Identification Number (PIN) or a San Diego Public Library Access Card.

What you can expect to learn at an online bartending school

Online bartending schools are a convenient solution for someone who’d like to learn the art of bartending but cannot afford the time or the fees required to learn this exciting skill. Worried that bartending needs a more hand’s-on approach for teaching? That’s a thing of the past. Online bartending schools are getting increasingly innovative and their courses include audio as well as video instructions complete with color photos, recipes and loads of tips and tricks. Move over Tom Cruise. All course material that is sent to you includes embedded video, audio and color photos. For every drink that is included in the course you get a color photo complete with the kind of glassware to be used as well as the garnish. This is important as it helps you get familiar with the appearance of the drink. This is accompanied by a step-by step photo sequence of how to prepare the drink, as well as an audio of the instructor giving you helpful tips, tricks and summaries. Most bartending courses also include a video demonstration of how to prepare the drink. At the end of every lesson there is a self-grading quiz that gives you your score after you answer it and also provides the correct answers. You have the option of re-taking all quizzes as many times as you need to till you are satisfied that you’ve finally got it! However the crucial test is the final quiz. It is akin to a final exam. It’s only after you pass the final exam that you get to unlock your certificate and can then call yourself a professional bartender. For those who want to do a bartending course just to look like Tom Cruise in Cocktail, there’s good news! Many online courses include bonus video lessons that explain the fundamentals of flair bartending. You get to learn how to flip bottles in the air, slide them across the bar-top and plenty of other cool bartending maneuvers that are sure to make you look more showman than mere bartender.

What you need to get an online bachelor degree

Many people find the flexibility of an online bachelor degree appealing. The old barriers to getting your degree such as interference with your work schedule or the commute aren't issues with online classes. However, online education carries with it some barriers of its own. Here are four things you absolutely have to have in order to successfully pursue an online bachelor degree. 1: An up-to-date computer. In a traditional, classroom-based environment, no one has to know you wrote your assignments on a ten-year-old computer. The same can't be said for online education. When pursuing your online bachelor degree, your computer will be the most important instrument of your education. You will most likely need recent computer software, as well, such as an Internet browser with which to access your online classes' websites, Microsoft Word for writing assignments, and any industry-specific software pertaining to your classes. Many libraries and schools have computer labs for the use of patrons and students. However, if you are pursuing an online bachelor degree you are strongly advised not to rely on public computers as your only machines. For one thing, saving files can be extremely tricky, as precautions against viruses prevent many public computers from connecting with data storage devices or downloading files. Also, by depending on a public computer lab you are confining your studies to the lab's hours of operation, eliminating one of the main advantages of an online program: being able to "attend" class and complete coursework at any time of the day or night. 2: Reliable Internet access. You simply cannot pursue any online degree without the ability to get online. High-speed Internet access is also desirable, if not downright necessary. Dial-up Internet access is simply too slow to be very effective in today's virtual world. Because you have to access complicated web pages and transfer large amounts of data, high-speed Internet access will save you a lot of time. Also, dial-up Internet is not always reliable, and the last thing you want while taking a test is to find yourself getting kicked offline. Many prospective students consider publicly available Internet access, such as WiFi hotspots, as an alternative to having access of their own. However, online students are strongly discouraged from relying solely on being able to access the Internet at another location. For one thing, such a setup takes away all of the advantages of online classes, such as not having to commute and being able to complete coursework at any time of the day or night. Having to travel every time you need to access your class will also make it more difficult to find time to do so, and may result in poorer performance in the class. 3: Time to devote to your education. Although an online bachelor degree is much more flexible than a traditional, classroom-based degree, you still need to be able to set aside enough time for your studies. Unlike a traditional program, however, this can be any time of the day or night. Many schools recommend that you plan to spend three to five hours a week on each class, but this may vary for different programs. Be sure to check with your school to see how much time you should allot each week for each class. Getting an online bachelor degree admittedly takes a little less time than pursuing a traditional program. This is because you do not have to spend several hours each week sitting in a classroom or commuting back and forth. However, many people make the mistake of assuming online means easy, and fail to realize how much time they will need to commit to their studies. 4: Self-motivation. For most people, probably the most difficult aspect of getting an online bachelor degree is relying on their own motivation to get the work done. In a traditional classroom setting, you have class several times a week and your teacher's reminders to keep you on track with the coursework. You also have the instructor's lectures to help you learn the material. In an online program, however, it will be entirely up to you to learn the material, remember to log in regularly, and keep up on the reading and assignments. An online bachelor degree has many advantages over traditional degree programs. The flexibility is especially appealing for many people. However, one should not assume that just because online education is more flexible, that means it will also be easier. In order to successfully complete your online bachelor degree, you still need to be able and willing to invest your resources in your education, just as with any traditional degree program.

What you should know about praxis ii tests

Praxis II tests are also known as Subject Assessment Tests. These are required by many states and professional organizations in the U. S. in order for beginning teachers to obtain their teaching certification or licensing. The Praxis II was developed as a way to measure and assess a teacher's knowledge in certain subjects and to test for teaching skills. Many colleges and universities also view Praxis II tests as an important evaluation of a would-be teacher's skills in the content area that they are planning on concentrating. Many teachers take the Praxis II tests in order to increase their list of qualifications. Who takes the Praxis II tests? Students normally register for and take the registered Praxis II tests before the completion of their undergraduate or graduate courses. Only 44 states require the Praxis series, although many colleges, universities and licensing agencies for professionals require these tests. Where are Praxis II tests offered? Testing locations are found in different regions and states throughout the U. S. for paper-based testing. While most of these test centers offer tests using the English language, there are also test centers that cater to students or beginning teachers whose principal language is not English. There are three major categories in the Praxis II test. These are: Subject Assessment Tests Measure a teacher's specific content knowledge and consists of multiple choice tests and constructed response questionnaires. Principles of Learning and Teaching Tests Assess a teacher's pedagogic knowledge and skills for four specific age groups of students: early childhood, kindergarten to 6, 5 to 9 and 7 to 12. Consists of multiple choice tests and constructed response questionnaires using case studies. Teaching Foundation Assess a teacher's knowledge in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and Language Arts. Also consists of multiple choice tests and constructed response questionnaires. Scoring the tests The raw score on a multiple choice Praxis II test indicates the number of correct answers while the scores on the constructed response tests reflects the points given by the appointed test scorers. The test takers will receive their score report about four to six weeks after taking the exam. Additional score reports or ASR may also be requested for an extra fee. The passing scores of the Praxis II tests are mandated by the state. If you want to know the score you need to obtain to get your initial teaching licensure, simply get in touch with your state's Department of Education or check out the Educational Testing Service website. The ETS. org website also includes information on which Praxis tests you may be required to take additionally as a requirement of the state you're planning to teach in. Preparing for the Praxis II Tests Preparing prior to taking the Praxis II tests is an important component of taking the tests successfully. It's recommended that you review books on your subject area, educational methods, techniques and psychology. Preparing and taking the tests can cost money so it's preferable that you invest only once in a successful attempt. The Praxis II test is a paper-based test and is not available through computer testing. Registering for the test may be done online, however. Simply go to the ETS. org website for a list of schedules and to fill out the registration form. Praxis II tests can last from one hour to four hours. If you prefer, you can take a combination of tests to save time. Some tutors and experienced educators, however, recommend that test takers keep to just 2 tests in 1 day, especially if you experience some anxiety or uncertainty.

What you should know about praxis tests

The Praxis test is a rigorous series of tests required to obtain teacher licensure in the United States. Majority of the states (currently 44) in continental U. S. and its jurisdictions require beginning teachers to pass these tests. The Praxis test is also a way for many education agencies to make licensing decisions and it's also used by colleges and universities as part of their qualification requirements for educational programs for teachers. The Praxis test has three categories, each of which corresponds to the development of the pedagogic knowledge and skills of teachers. These are Praxis I, Praxis II and Praxis III. Praxis I is the series of tests that are used for the assessment of a teacher's academic skills. It is required for entry to a training program for teachers. It measures the teacher's knowledge and teaching ability in the three basic skills: reading, writing and mathematics. To take the Praxis I test, a teacher may choose either a paper-based or a computer-based format. Generally, this Praxis series test is taken during the initial stages of a teacher's college career. Praxis II test is used for licensure for entry to the teaching profession and measures a teacher's content knowledge and pedagogic skills through subject assessments. This series of tests are used to assess knowledge in general and specific subjects for K-12 teachers. The Praxis II test has three test sub categories: Subject Assessment, PLT or Principles of Learning and Teaching and Teaching Foundations. The Praxis II is taken as part of the certification and licensing process that is required by many states and professional organizations. Praxis III test is an assessment of a teacher's classroom performance, that is, his or her knowledge and skills as measured within a classroom setting. The test evaluates a teacher's teaching abilities through practice. This involves direct observation, interviews and review of a teacher's documentation including lesson plans. This series of tests are conducted and completed in a classroom setting and consists of numerous assessment criteria involving four interconnected domains. While the Praxis III test is used for licensing decisions by many states and professional agencies, it may not be a requirement for employment decisions, especially on teachers who are already licensed. Where to take the Praxis test Find out first what Praxis test you should take and then get in touch with your state's Department of Education for the test schedules. Some Praxis tests may be taken using a computer while others require you to find a local testing center authorized to administer these tests. Some tests, such as the Praxis III series, require a classroom setting. Check out the Educational Testing Service website ( ets. org) to find out more. To take the Praxis Series test, you can register online at the ETS website or fill out a hard copy of a registration form and send it through mail. The registration forms cannot be downloaded, although you'll find a copy in a Praxis test bulletin, which you can get from Testing Services. Be sure to register before the deadline. You'll need to send out your form so ETS has enough time to send you an admission ticket. You'll need this ticket to know where you'll need to report for testing, what requirements you need to bring, etc. In case you miss the deadline, you can also try to report to your testing location on the day of the Praxis test and try to get seating as a stand by. You can call ETS to find out which test center will be offering the particular Praxis test you have to take.

What you should know green energy

Green energy refers to the use of power that is not only more efficient than fossil fuel but that is friendly to the environment as well. Green energy is generally defined as energy sources that dont pollute and are renewable. There are several categories of green energy. They are anaerobic digestion, wind power, geothermal power, hydropower on a small scale, biomass power, solar power and wave power. Waste incineration can even be a source of green energy. Nuclear power plants claim that they produce green energy as well, though this source is fraught with controversy, as we all know. While nuclear energy may be sustainable, may be considered renewable and does not pollute the atmosphere while it is producing energy, its waste does pollute the biosphere as it is released. The transport, mining and phases before and after production of nuclear energy does produce and release carbon dioxide and similar destructive greenhouse gases. When we read of green energy, therefore, we rarely see nuclear power included. Those who support nuclear energy say that nuclear waste is not, in fact, released into our earths biosphere during its normal production cycle. They stress as well that the carbon dioxide that nuclear energy production releases is comparable, in terms of each kilowatt hour of electricity, to such sources of green energy as wind power. As an example of the green energy production the average wind turbine, such as the one in Reading England, can produce enough energy daily to be the only energy source for 1000 households. Many countries now offer household and commercial consumers to opt for total use of green energy. They do this one of two ways. Consumers can buy their electricity from a company that only uses renewable green energy technology, or they can buy from their general supplies such as the local utility company who then buys from green energy resources only as much of a supply as consumers pay for. The latter is generally a more cost - efficient way of supplying a home or office with green energy, as the supplier can reap the economic benefits of a mass purchase. Green energy generally costs more per kilowatt hour than standard fossil fuel energy. Consumers can also purchase green energy certificates, which are alternately referred to as green tags or green certificates. These are available in both Europe and the United States, and are the most convenient method for the average consumer to support green energy. More than 35 million European households and one million American households now buy these green energy certificates. While green energy is a great step in the direction of keeping our environment healthy and our air as pollutant free as possible, it must be noted that no matter what the energy, it will negatively impact the environment to some extent. Every energy source, green or otherwise, requires energy. The production of this energy will create pollution during its manufacture. Green energys impact is minimal, however.

When it is emotional intelligence and when it is not

As we all race to understand Emotional Intelligence, arguably the hottest thing on the business scene globally, there are many questions. As ‘Ask the EQ Expert’ for a major business website, I’ve been asked: ·Isn’t ‘Emotional Intelligence’ a contradiction in terms? ·Isn’t there such a thing as too much emotion? ·It seems a ‘natural’ for relationships, but do you think emotions belong in the workplace?? ·How can I learn it? DO EMOTIONS BELONG IN THE WORKPLACE? We do business through people, and with people. Work is relationships, and, whether you approve or not, emotions are at work. We don’t leave them at home when we come to work. We are our emotions and we aren’t a different person at work than we are at home. THE VALUABLE FLOODGATE Yes, there is such a thing as “too much emotion.” The benefits of studying Emotional Intelligence are that you improve your understanding of your own feelings and how they influence you and those around you (as well as those of others), and how you think and behave, and ultimately, your emotions become more modulated. One area that sabotages us, for instance, is when we become “flooded” or “hijacked.” Something or someone makes you angry and you lose it. You might lash out, or withdraw, get physical and do something rash, use poor judgment, or sit in apoplectic silence (and then sabotage yourself), but whatever your reaction, what’s happened is that the flood of anger has disabled your thinking brain, just when you need it the most. The aftermath can include regret, as well as fatigue, stomach pains, headaches, back aches, diarrhea … you name it. Research is showing us there’s a “brain” in our intestines as well as in our heads that’s hooked up to our emotions (via the powerful vagus nerve) … but we knew that. That’s why we have “visceral” reactions to things, and why we can always check in with our bodies to see how we’re feeling, if our heads are fooling us with rationalizations. (i. e., If he’s really such a "nice guy", why is your stomach in knots when you have to talk to him?) TOO LITTLE? On the other hand, if you think you’ve checked your emotions at the front desk, #1 they’re more likely to sabotage you because you aren’t mindful, and #2, you’re missing a great ally. Emotions give us information. One Emotional Intelligence competency, for instance, is intuition. Without the information you get from your “gut feeling” or “basic instincts” you’ll call many plays wrong. Emotional Intelligence is the interface between thinking and feeling. We can think through the data, but it can only take us so far; otherwise, we’d always be able to pick a winner! And #3, if you aren’t mindful about emotions you will be less effective with people. This does not mean turning you into a bleeding heart, or that screaming or crying on the job is the desired result. In fact, it’s about managing emotions; understanding your own and those of others, and responding, not reacting. This gives you choices! Why more effective with people? Motivation is an example. It’s not a thinking word, as you know if you’ve ‘talked till you were blue in the face’ trying to convince someone of something with logic and reason. Ultimately we are moved by our emotions, and we need to connect with others to access this. This has been said to be the difference between a “leader” and a “manager,” which is a fair theoretical distinction, but in reality people’s job titles don’t always reflect what they do, or, more importantly, how they are. TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING? Why moderation? Let’s take a look at Empathy, one of the Emotional Intelligence competencies. If you’re low in Empathy, you need it, and it can be learned. Hook up with a certified EQ coach and get into it. If you have a strong ability at Empathy, you need to be able to use it as a tool; in other words, you use IT, it doesn’t use YOU. It matters how you manage it. Understanding the feelings of the other person is valuable. Getting infected by them is not. Neither is practicing Empathy with someone who is toxic. In his book, “Coping with Toxic Managers, Subordinates … and Other Difficult People: Using Emotional Intelligence to Survive and Prosper,” ( amazon/exec/obidos/ASIN/0131409956/susandunnmome-20 ) Roy H. Lubit, a psychiatrist, identifies the behaviours of five types of toxic managers: narcissistic, unethical, aggressive, rigid and impaired. He suggests strategies for protecting yourself. Yes, protecting yourself. When your Intuition (an Emotional Intelligence competency) informs you that you’re dealing with someone toxic, it’s time to take care of yourself, not try and “fix” them. People with strong Empathy often make this mistake. Lubit maintains these toxic behaviours are the manifestations of depression and fear. The Empathic person will pick up on the depression and fear, which is indeed worthy of compassion, but not at the expense of harmful behaviours coming your way. Misapplied Empathy and misunderstanding of how to use and enjoy it, leave you wide open to abuse, as well as likely to stick around too close and too long. “Understanding” the underlying feelings does not excuse the toxic behaviours, nor compel you to tolerate them. Other Emotional Intelligence competencies would then come into play, such as Personal Power, Intuition, and Integrated Self. Toxic behaviours are not confined to managers. You will meet them roaming around many offices and your ability to work around them will impact your career. As has been said, your EQ is more important to your success (health and happiness) than your IQ. Julian Barling, Ph. D., professor of organizational behaviour at Queen’s University, Kingston, says aggression in the workplace is more likely when 2 factors are present: psychologically unhealthy people and psychologically unhealthy organizations. Dr. Barling feels it’s easier to try and make organizations healthier than to try and weed out psychologically unhealthy individuals. With Empathy, you can understand where they’re coming from, but it’s your Intuition that tells you it’s not a problem to be solved, but rather a fact to be dealt with. It's Personal Power that allows you to take care of yourself rather than feeling “hopeless and helpless.” HOW DO YOU LEARN EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE? Reading about Emotional Intelligence is a starting point, but to really ‘get it’ you have to put the competencies into practice. Coaching is the suggested venue for the crucial active-learning stage. Social and interpersonal skills can’t be practiced in a vacuum, and you need feedback. Emotional Intelligence is about understanding and valuing emotions; managing them; and integrating them comfortably with thinking processes for the information, motivation, enrichment and connection they give us. Most people find Emotional Intelligence to be “the missing piece” and the best way to understand it, is to experience it.

    Where are the good schools

Moving can be stressful. Finding a house, a job, and good schools for the kids can be big hurdles to overcome. And sorting through all the school ranking for general education lists can be tiresome. So I set out with goal to do a lot of that research for you and unearth one district that sounds like a good move for relocating a family. Keep in mind that all the awards, school rankings and on-line praise you hear won’t ever give you the same information as actually visiting an area. But it’s a good place to start. One of the areas that kept turning up in my searches was the Salt Lake City Public Schools. Now don’t pack up and move on my say so! But look at the accolades they’ve received. If a move to the Salt Lake Schools area is a possibility for you that could be a good thing. The school district of Salt Lake City Schools has received numerous awards during the 2006-2007 school year. For example, four Salt Lake City Schools students who attend Bryant Middle School recently won Fourth Place and the Naval History Award for their presentation at the National History Day competition. This was a national competition! Salt Lake City Schools’ Escalante Elementary won the Intel School of Distinction Award for its commitment to academic excellence and science instruction. Two Salt Lake City Schools recently received national recognition. West High School has been named the top high school in Utah and number 158 in the nation by Newsweek and the Washington Post. It is the second consecutive year West has earned the top spot. Highland High is ranked at 285 in the national listing. Another Salt Lake City School - Northwest Middle - won the 2007 Distinction in Character Education Award from the National Center for Community of Caring. On May 18, 2007, the National Conference named Sheila Jaymes, a Salt Lake City Schools counselor at Wasatch Elementary and half time truancy specialist, the Volunteer of the Year for Community and Justice. For the last nine years, she has volunteered her time with the NCCJ, working with adolescents and community leaders within Salt Lake City Schools. Doug Jorgenson, Biotechnology teacher at Highland High School, has been named the Outstanding Concurrent Teacher for Salt Lake City Schools for 2007 by Salt Lake Community College. Jorgenson has been teaching for the district for 11 years. His subject areas are Biology — Honors and ELP, Zoology and Biotechnology. Frankly, any district can give out volunteer and teacher of the year awards. So I’m more impressed by the national placement of Salt Lake City Schools mentioned above. If you are intrigued, try visiting some parent boards and see what locals say about their Salt Lake City Schools.

Where can a medical transcriptionist work

Medical transcription is the process of turning the spoken words of medical professionals into text for documents and reports. The process can be difficult and many of the individuals that transcribe these voice recordings, called medical transcriptionists, must undergo a training program to be able to perform this job effectively. Much of the information transcribed is patient information, so the transcriptionist has to be not only accurate, but discreet and professional as well. After the individual has completed the medical transcription program, there are many places that they can turn to for employment. One of the places that employ large number of medical transcriptionists is local and regional hospitals. Hospitals typically see a huge volume of patients on a daily basis and need to retain information on each of these patients. In order to cut down on the amount of time that the physician needs to see each patient, the physician typically dictates the information about the patient and any treatment methods used into a voice recorder to later be transcribed by the medical transcriptionists and converted into an electronic text file. This is necessary so that if the patient ever needs to return to the hospital, their information can be found quickly and easily by the next attending physician. Another place that typically employs medical transcriptionists is doctor’s offices that have more than a couple doctors in residence. These doctor’s offices find that it is more cost effective and timely to hire a medical transcriptionist than to contract the service out to a company. This is not limited only to doctors though. Dentists, therapists, and laboratories all may choose to hire a medical transcriptionist for the office instead of contracting to have their voice recordings transcribed by an independent contractor or company. This reduces the time needed to receive their written transcriptions and any confusion or issues can be taken care of immediately. There are several companies that hire medical transcriptionists to do medical transcription on a contracted basis. These companies typically serve smaller doctor, dentist, and therapist offices. These individuals typically do not have a high volume of medical transcription work to be done so they choose to contract the work out rather than hire someone of their own. This keeps the costs for the transcription work that they do need completed lower than if they hired someone to perform the job in their office. There are many different employment opportunities for a trained qualified medical transcriptionist and a good transcriptionist can choose where they would like to be employed.

Where have all the new york schools teachers gone

No one can argue that teachers aren’t important and, next to students, are the lifeblood of any school. So why are so many teachers leaving the profession? New York Schools, while they haven’t lost their entire teaching staffs, are experiencing a high turnover of teachers, just like the rest of the country. New York Schools, which is the nation’s largest school system, recruited approximately 5,000 new teachers this summer (2007) by the middle of August. They were looking for teachers certified in Math, Science, or Special Education. New York Schools offered a housing incentive that, in some cases, totals $5,000 to be used towards a down payment on a house. The incentive apparently worked, based on the number of teachers hired. New York Public Schools are also looking outside the world of education for their teachers. Offering subsidies to offset the cost of obtaining a master’s degree, New York Schools hope to attract “mid-career” professionals. They are looking for folks employed in such fields as health care, law, and finance. New York Schools director of teacher recruitment, Vicki Bernstein is looking to hire still more teachers before school begins on September 4th – at least 1,300 to be exact. In June, one nonprofit group conducted a survey of several school districts across the country to find out how much they were spending annually for recruitment, hiring, and training new teachers. New York Schools were included in that survey. The survey found that New York Schools, among several other districts, are experiencing teacher turnover that’s costing them $7 billion annually. Retirement is one reason schools are seeing a large departure of their teaching staff. In addition, the hiring of new teachers slowed down in the ‘80s and ‘90s, which raised the average age of teachers. New York Schools says that their wave of such retirements was at a peak early in this decade, but that it did not truly cause a teacher shortage. However, there are many new teachers hired by New York Schools that become disillusioned with the classroom, and find it hard to stay where they are most needed. The National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future has calculated that nearly a third of all new teachers leave the profession after just three years, and that after five years almost half are gone — a higher turnover, indeed. Higher salaries in the business sector, as well as more professional opportunities are also factors in the departure of teachers, even the ones working for New York Schools. Traditionally, more women than men have become teachers, and the possibility of a better salary and the chance to expand one’s career horizons is tempting to many. Recent Department of Education statistics state that about 8.4% of the nation’s 3.2 million public school teachers quit the field in the 2003-4 school year. Thirty percent of them retired, and 56 percent said they left to pursue another career or because they were dissatisfied. This explains, for the most part, where the New York Schools teachers have gone. The district is working hard to get them back.

Where to get an accredited online bachelor degree

For a long time now, the "traditional" institutions of higher learning have had unique approaches to teaching. They have also varied by size, student composition, and faculty specialties. Similar diversity is now found among institutions who offer accredited online bachelor degrees. The providers of virtual classrooms call themselves different things. Sometimes institutions offering an accredited online bachelor degree program will call itself a university. For example, Liberty University and Kaplan University are online schools designated as universities. Other times, the educational institution will be labeled an "Institute." The ITT Technical Institute is one example. ITT Technical Institute is one of several providers of online education that specialize in technical skills. De Vry is another one who also offers an accredited online bachelor degree. De Vry has two main divisions, one for students with residence in the United States, and one for students who live outside the USA. ITT Technical Institute has a long and distinguished history of providing technical courses to students who would prefer getting their education online or at local educational centers, rather than attending a four year college and having to take a list of prescribed courses. ITT is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, where it has administrative offices, and from there it directs its accredited online bachelor degree program. ITT is actually a "hybrid" institution, meaning students have the opportunity if they choose, to attend classes in person, as well as take online classes. Many students like that, because it gives them the chance to participate in campus life. ITT has student oriented clubs for people who are interested in technical areas like computers or radios. These can be great networking opportunities for the students in the future. If you are looking into an accredited online bachelor degree program, be sure to do your homework. It is generally better to go with one of the big name institutions than to try an unknown school you found online. There are scams out there which will take your money and may even send you a paper certificate, but they are not licensed and registered, nor are they accredited with the appropriate institutions.

Where to go for massage therapy classes

So you want to learn how to give a massage. You need massage therapy classes! You do not have to be a licensed massage therapist to be interested or even feel the need to take a massage therapy class. There are many different areas that you can go to in order to be educated in the art of a massage. Some places are only specialized in massage therapy teachings, or there are some places that are healing schools. You can even find your classes online, at a local college, community recreation center or a vocational school. The possibilities are out there and the opportunity to learn more is out there if you are willing to take advantage of it. Of course if you are going to take a class or classes in massage therapy then you should look into what type of class is offered as well as who is teaching it and what their credentials are. Not all massage classes are the same. In some cases these are just informal gatherings where people are going to learn how to be more sensual with their partner and have no healing qualities to them at all. Some places where you go to take massage therapy classes are there to teach you all of the proper techniques and the various styles of the massages. These places are also licensed and are designed to give you the opportunity to become certified in massage therapy thus making you a licensed massage therapist. There are many opportunities out there for you to find the right class and opportunity for you to be successful at the type and style of massage that you are interested in. There are also classes that are offered as degree programs from colleges and universities; however these are part of a larger overall program. This does not mean that you cannot just take a couple of classes at the school in order to simply get the education that you want from the program. Not all of the classes are actually recognized however. Sometimes the massage classes that you see advertised or offered are not created for use as professional aids, but for you simple instruction in introducing you to the art of massage therapy. When looking to take a class in massage therapy, do some research. Go online and find out about the class that you are interested in. Look into the Better Business Bureau for complaints about the place you are looking to take the class at. Not everyone is going to be upfront and honest in regards to the classes and what they entail, some of them may not even be certified in massage therapy. This does not mean that this is what you are looking for when you go to receive a massage lesson. Think about what you are looking for when you go to take a class and find the class that best fits your needs whether it is just massages for fun, or if you are looking to give massages for a living.

Where to look for massage therapy education

If you want to learn how to give a massage then you will be in need of massage therapy education. There are schools all over the country that can make you into a certified massage therapist. It is something that you need to actually attend, much like college or taking vocational classes in order to be certified and to be able to practice the art of giving a massage. There are many locations who only work in the teachings of how to properly use massage therapy where as some traditional colleges and universities also teach the skill and art of the massage. It is growing in popularity as a field of study and as a profession hence leading to more schools and more of a demand for massage therapists. Many of these schools also offer teachings in other healing arts as well. Some of these range from acupuncture to herbal remedies. These schools take the time to teach and certify their students in the ability to become a professional massage therapist and with the high levels of stress that there are in the world today, more and more people are finding themselves in the need of a therapeutic massage. Massages can be wonderful things if they are performed correctly and by someone who is actually certified in the field. Not all of us have the ability or the know how to accomplish this feat, however with some training and about six months worth of school you could be a certified massage therapist. This is not a joke, this is a real recognized profession in which many people have the potential to make large amounts of money if they perform properly and fulfill their customer’s needs. There are many different styles and types of massage therapy education places that you can choose from. Many of these are actual accredited colleges and universities which offer programs in the field of massage therapy. There are many others that do not fall into this category. These would be schools that are specialized in the art of massage therapy or they are schools that practice the idea of healing practices. Some of these schools are well known and have produced some very capable massage therapists; others are schools that are only looking to find people who are willing to pay to learn massage therapy and are not concerned about student success. In most cases it is best to check with the Better Business Bureau in order to find out if any complaints have been filed against the school that you are looking into so that you will not end up coming out empty handed in the end. All in all consider if this is a field that you would like to get into and whether or not it is something that you believe that you will be able to do. Once you have determined that this is the life that you would like to live then you need to pick a school and get your certification so that you will be able to go out and provide the massage therapy that so many people need today.

Who cares about high school rankings

Who cares about comparing schools? After all, the experts are constantly advising parents NOT to compare their children to each other, their cousins, friends, and neighbors. It can damage their self-esteem, causing the little darlings to feel like they don’t measure up to their parents’ expectations. However, comparing secondary schools for High school rankings is one situation in which kids – students – must be compared to their peers. High school rankings are one of the main ways that experts (think teachers, administrators and school board members), community members (business leaders, parents, taxpayers), and government leaders (mayors, governors, local and state senators and representatives) determine how well a school is doing compared to its counterparts. Looking at the High school rankings gives a lot of valuable information to all of these groups. For example, High school rankings may provide data on test scores. Knowing how different students have scored on standardized tests as compared to other students who have taken the same or at least similar tests is important. It shows how much test-based knowledge the students have acquired and retained. The High school rankings make accessing this complex information easy. Comparing schools on the curriculum level is another way to use High school rankings for gen interest. Looking at how often a school updates its curriculum to reflect changing trends in education and updates to texts and materials will also provide perspective on what the kids are studying in preparation for the tests they take. High school rankings may also give information on the socioeconomic levels of the students attending the high schools that are part of the High school rankings for gen interest. If a school is composed mostly of students in a middle - to high-socioeconomic background, there’s a good chance that more of those students will excel as compared to their peers who have a low-socioeconomic background. In addition, information found in High school rankings can also tell us what kind of effort schools that serve the lower end of the socioeconomic scale are putting forth. Looking at High school rankings can give Board of Education officials insight into which schools should receive accolades for their hard work, and which schools might need more attention. While all schools deserve attention and support from their local and state education officials, there are some that need extra attention to help them raise their game. Using information gleaned from High school rankings is an easy and quick way for said officials, as well as private organizations or individual donors, to determine which schools need an extra boost. Analyzing High school rankings over a period of years will also show how much improvement individual schools or districts have made, and how the extra attention given to struggling schools, as identified by the High school rankings For Gen Interest, has helped.

    Who do school rankings benefit

Increased Interest in School Rankings It’s difficult to remember a time when the public school system in this country was under greater scrutiny. Newsweek is running features on the subject, there are a plethora of sites online that cater to a growing demand for comprehensive school rankings, and that most vociferous of public speech mechanisms, the blogosphere, has enough to say on the subject of listing schools based on rankings. Now, the richest man in the world has stepped into the picture. In the summer of 2006, Bill Gates and his wife Melinda announced the education program goals of their charitable foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The announcement of the Gates’ proposed education goals couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time. The public education system in the country is under growing pressure to deliver amid increasing concerns that the country’s schools are churning out semi-literate youngsters who might be ill equipped to handle college level jobs in the real world. Proponents of school rankings insist that these listings give high school authorities a picture of where their schools stand overall. These schools, they argue, can thus be motivated to better their schools rankings. As well intentioned as the idea behind school rankings may be, there is enough to indicate that such listings may not always have the desired results on the quality of education offered at those schools that are placed lower in the rankings. Effects of Low School rankings on Parents All parents want to give their children the best possible education, regardless of their socio-economic status or which part of town they live in. That’s a given. It’s a different scenario when parents can afford to live in any part of town they choose, and have access to any number of schools for their children. But for parents who find that their children’s schools have been placed low on school rankings, it can be demoralizing to say the least. Such parents might find it difficult to motivate their children enough. Effects of Low School Rankings on Teachers A public school teacher’s job is an unthankful one, and for teachers in the low school rankings areas it makes a tough job even harder. And it’s really difficult to teach in a poorly funded and low-income school. Low school rankings can mean that funding for the school is considerably lowered, and this cuts into any programs that the school may have planned. Although there are some instances when low school rankings will qualify a school for extra help. Effects of Low School Rankings on Students Keeping dropout levels low in poor areas is tough enough without the added stigma of attending a “sub par” school. Does that mean we should eliminate school rankings to save student’s feelings? Of course not. But parents and administrators need to be aware of the both the benefits and pitfalls of the school ranking system.
