If your system has been targeted by one of the hundreds of email scammers proliferating the Internet, your headaches have just begun. Should a hacker invade your inbox with a virulent email, you will have to take immediate and aggressive action. Often this results in ultimate frustration, not to mention time gobbling effort. The wisest thing one can do to protect their email from malicious attack is to install email filters that work tirelessly in the background to protect your system and its content. In addition to installing email filters, you can give yourself a modicum of security by adhering to the following: Spammers like to send innocent looking emails with “Remove” in the subject line. Unless you are confident of whom the email is from, you should NEVER reply to its sender by clicking on the “remove” link. Even though the body of this mail may contain detailed instructions outlining the procedure to remove your address from their mailing list, don’t be fooled. Spammers like to include these links so users will think the offer is legitimate. Most of the time, they are nothing more than a fishing expedition to see if your email is working and legitimate. Once they get this information, look out – life as you know it will not be the same. Word to the wise: Delete, delete, delete!!! Turn the tables on spammer spiders by altering your email address on line. Spiders harvest email addresses by crawling the net, surreptitiously capturing email address from guest books, registration services and white page directories. Instead of posting your address as: “[email protected]”, type in: “person at thisplace”. Spiders will skim their sneaky little legs right on past and you will never feel their sting. You should guard your email as diligently as you do your personal address and home phone number. Use a primary email address for contact with friends, family and business connections, and set up a secondary email address for all online forms. Free email accounts are available on the web from providers such as yahoo and hotmail – these companies spend astounding amounts to protect their servers from malicious content, so most spamming attacks are blocked at the outset. Installing and maintaining email filters can effectively snatch the welcome mat out from under the feet of spammers lurking in the doorway of your operating system. You can program them to automatically delete any unauthorized email before it can be opened, but most users like to retain the option of either white listing or black listing senders. Email filters allow all white listed (wanted) email to reach your inbox, while blacklisted addresses (those you have not authorized) will be spiraled into the refuse bin. This can sometimes lead to a catch-22 situation. Your email filtering program must be set up so it does not inadvertently block legitimate email. In these days of world wide commerce, even one mistakenly blocked email can have a detrimental impact on our business. So, when installing an email filtering program, make sure it is equipped with the technology that can combine variables including specific criteria, real time research and intelligence data in order to ensure you are not throwing the baby out with the bath water.

    I think I speak for all managers around the country when I say that we have all, in our darker moments, fantasized about mimicking Sir Alan Sugar’s catchphrase on ‘The Apprentice’ and telling an employee in no uncertain terms that they need to clear their desk and leave: “You’re fired!” Nice as it is to be able to pretend it would be this easy to get rid of that typist who spends more time on the phone to friends than doing their job, or the office manager who pulls a sickie every week, the truth is that simply firing your staff in this unceremonious manner will lead to all the ‘pleasures’ of an ‘unfair dismissal’ lawsuit. So how should we go about getting rid of staff who are bad for the company? There’s a procedure you have to follow to ensure that your back is covered should the disgruntled sacked employee be feeling litigious and looking to call wrongful dismissal. The first step towards this is ensuring that you have a clear set of rules and regulations. Afterall, if something is against the rules, but you’ve never actually explained it to your employees, then how are they supposed to know they are breaking them? At this point, you also need to be very clear of the consequences if such rules are broken. There are two levels of misconduct you need to make provisions against: general and gross. Due to the different levels of seriousness, you need to make clear the action you would take in each circumstance: General Misconduct These are minor offenses or one-offs that would not result in serious repercussions for your business if occurring. The sort of thing that falls into this category should be: lateness, personal calls on the company telephone or under performance. Gross Misconduct This type of offense is for serious offenses which could damage the company, including acts of physical violence, drug or alcohol abuse, vandalism of company property, serious breaches of health and safety regulations, theft, fraud, harassment, discrimination or serious negligence. Additionally, the behavior listed in general misconduct could accumulate into gross misconduct if persistent while ignoring staff warnings. So how do you go about ditching the troublesome staff? As I mentioned before there are procedures and you can’t just go and make an example out of someone on the spot – well you can, but the chances are they’ll be entitled to make an example out of you in the courts with a ‘wrongful dismissal’ lawsuit! Here’s how it’s done to avoid litigation: 1) If and when you become dissatisfied with the employee, tell them in writing. 2) Meet up with the employee and discuss the issue, trying to find a way in which the problems can be resolved. If possible, resolve the problem informally: You might consider training, or more supervision. Tell the employee the improvements you expect, and when their progress will be reviewed. 3) If an informal solution isn’t possible, take formal action – first a written warning, and then a final written warning. These must explain the nature of the problem, what you expect to improve and the consequences if they fail to meet your standards. Explain they have the right to appeal against your decision and give them opportunity to explain themselves. 4) If they accept their right of appeal, arrange a meeting and hear their case. Tell the employee your decision. 5) If the employee fails to meet your requirements, you may dismiss them or offer them a different job. Emptying your trash bin and clearing up your desk at the end of each day’s work will also be very helpful in keeping your office clean and keep you from ever having to contend with a towering pile of papers on your desk. A clean and empty desk will also be a welcome sight when you get into your office the following day. 5. Try to be more creative when decorating your office. Place some art pieces and some flowers and plants into your total office environment. You can also add a personalized touch by displaying family pictures or inspirational quotes that you probably think would help make your office not only clean and tidy but a more enjoyable and agreeable workplace. A clean and organized office will help you do your work efficiently and effectively. Putting these tips into good use can help you not only have a tidier workplace but it will give you a good working environment where you can make each working day a lot more fulfilling.     You must work hard to be rich myth or truth

     

    'One of the most common myths about getting rich or achieving financial success is that working hard is the key to create wealth,' declared Jamie McIntyre. Despite the fact that his dad was truly working hard on the farm for many years, this did not make the farmer wealthy. Income from the farm has actually dipped badly and the man would never save a million dollars from his farm's income even if he worked hard on it for several lifetimes. His father's wealth was created by buying the farmland property at a low price and the increasing value of the land over a period of time. Anyone who have read Robert Kiyosaki's 'Rich Dad Poor Dad'book will find this theory familiar. His father's wealth was amassed even when he was sleeping and almost without any effort at all. It is true that good work ethic and some hard work in the beginning helped but the most important feature was the investing of his money on the property and letting his money work for him. Then Jamie went on to use his mother as another example. His mother had always wanted to open a coffee shop. She did not realize that many years later, she was offered to buy the entire building in which the coffee shop was located. However she did not buy it because she had already borrowed a lot of money for the coffee shop business and did not like the idea of borrowing anymore money. She was being mistakenly prudent. She worked very hard for many many years, often not paying herself a salary (another big mistake, as another rule for wealth creation is to always pay yourself first). She often worked hard to pay the shop's rental. She was working real hard but with a miserable return for the investment and labor. You see, if she only she had borrowed another $100,000 for the building, she could have:- a) Charged her coffee shop business a higher rent since the money still comes back to her. Even if her business only managed to pay the rent, it could be used to return the borrowed money. b) The building would appreciate in value over time making her a lot of money without working and plus her charging a higher rental, it automatically make the building even more valuable. c) She can sell away her coffee shop business and kept the building profiting from the sale of her business and then have the new tenants paying her rentals for the shop. Now she need not work to have a steady flow of passive income. d) If she still wants to work, she could work part time for the new owner and then picking up another income stream. The truth is that so many streams of passive income now, his mother could be rich without working hard. So, in order to be rich you must work hard, is a truth or a myth? It was in this book that I learned that I was holding an AMAZING tool to rack in thousands of dollars. I felt quite stupid actually, because nearly every internet marketer I had talked to seemed shocked that I hadn’t known what the real purpose of this tool was. The tool was a list of subscribers. An opt-in list. I had numerous newsletters that were broadcasted to my list every several days. I knew that this was to build trust with my list, and it was my hope that a select few would sign up for their own home based business under me through the advertisement at the top of every newsletter. Don’t get me wrong, that hope is still there and it is an effective way to refer people to ANY business, but building trust and placing a small advertisement about your business is only a SMALL PIECE of the benefits your can reap from having an opt-in list. There is another great method to both make you money AND build trust with your list. This is to advertise some sort of information, presentation, or anything that will benefit your subscribers. Don’t do this right away however. You must first set up a list of tips, or advice, or articles or reports or SOMETHING to broadcast to your list of subscribers. Something that is free, and something that is beneficial to them (Many online businesses will PROVIDE that list of tips FOR you.) Once you start broadcasting your newsletters to your list, wait a few weeks (preferably a month), before you start advertising to them. When it finally comes time to advertise something, here are a few tips: • Keep the sales letter as short as possible, while making it as enticing as possible. (It should be short so it is easy to read, and should have your list PUMPED to buy the product.) • Send a follow-up email promotion to the same list (statistics show that this WILL increase your sales by 50%) • Don’t BS. People like (and trust) honesty. Tell you’re list straightaway that it will cost money. (But also add how darned much it will benefit them!) • Don’t give the impression that if they don’t buy your product they will never be successful. Instead, leave them with the impression that they CAN do extremely well without it, but they will do BETTER with it. The only downside to this type of advertising is that you must have a fair sized list of subscribers in order to even hope to make a sale. (If you have a list of 3000 or more then you are doing fairly well.) Building a list is one of the biggest challenges that many online marketers will face. But the benefits of having one are incredible. Think of your list as your own personal ATM. All you have to do is send out a simple email and wait for the cash to roll in.
