    Two bbq recipes

There is no shortage of barbecue recipes. Almost everyone who barbecues food has a few favorite recipes. Here are a couple of fun barbecue recipes to try out. You never know when you’ll find a new family favorite! GRILLED VENISON WITH BACON Prep time: 6 to 7 hours Cooking Time: 20 minutes Serves: 4 Ingredients 2 lbs. venison backstrap (tenderloin) 1 qt. apple cider 1 1/2 lbs. thick sliced bacon 2 12oz. bottles of barbecue sauce Cut venison into 2 inch chunks and place in a shallow baking dish. Pour enough apple cider into the dish to cover the venison pieces fully. Place the dish in a refrigerator and allow to soak for two hours. Remove venison from the cider and shake the pieces vigorously to free them of cider. Throw away the cider that is left in the dish. Wash the dish before putting the venison in it again. Put the venison back in the dish and pour in the barbecue sauce generously -- so that it covers the venison fully. The dish should then be covered and returned to the refrigerator for two to three hours. Remove the venison from the fridge and let it stand for half an hour in normal room temperature. Next, wrap bacon slices around each chunk of venison. Secure the with toothpicks to make sure that it does not fall off during grilling. The venison is now ready to be barbecued. Heat the grill and brush some olive oil on the grill grate. Lay the venison packed in bacon on the hot grill. You can expect the bacon to cause flame-ups, but don't worry. Let it get slightly burnt. It adds to the smoked flavor. Turn the venison a few times to ensure smooth and even cooking, and serve hot. Types of beer

The word "beer" is often used as a generic noun used to describe a cold refreshing beverage. For example, "Hiya Mike, let's go for a beer." However, beer lovers around the world will heartily agree that there's nothing generic about beer. When it comes to types of beer, there are many, many options to choose from. It's impossible to say which type is best, because they all have very different characteristics. You'd be surprised at how a pilsner can differ from a porter, or how a stout stands out from a cider. The names given to different styles of beer generally reflect individual characteristics of the product, such as where it originated. Most beers, particularly those sold commercially, are processed using traditional methods. Different types of beer have unique qualities like appearance, taste, origin and aroma. There are several styles that make up the world' most common types of beer: Styles of beer have a lot to do with how they taste, what they look like, how they smell and of course where they are made. Some common choices include these: * Lager: Some of the most popular types of beer are lagers. These include American styles including basic lager, all-malt lager, light lager, double pilsner, malt liquor and low-alcohol or "light" beers. Popular international choices include Czech, European, Japanese and German lagers. * Ale: American amber, brown ale, porter, strong, sour and wild ales are also common American beers. Also falling under the category of "Ales" are Chile Beer, Pumpkin Ale, Belgian and French ales, English, German, Irish, Finnish, Scottish and Russian ales. * Cider: While not an official beer, cider is still enjoyed by many beer drinkers. Favorites include standard cider, New England cider and many specialty ciders. * Hybrids: combining different beer styles or ingredients create this "experimental" beer. Berbed, smoked, fruit and vegetable beer and spiced beer are all types of hybrids. * Mead: Mead is not a beer, rather a honey wine that has been adapted from centuries-old recipes. Melomel is a type of mead blended with fruit or vegetables. Braggot is concoction of beer and mead, while Metheglin is mead blended with spices. Variety is the spice of life. If you're a beer drinker, you're likely loyal to a tried and true brand. But remember that variety is the spice of life. There is a world of options available to you, so try something new next time you're ready to crack open a cold one.

    Types of chinese teacups

It may come as a surprise to learn that many Chinese people are meticulous in regards to tea wares. The reason for this is that tea wares (such as teacups and teapots) play an integral role in the preparation of tea. A proper Chinese tea ceremony would not be truly successful without the use of proper tea wares. In fact, it has been said that the true essence of a Chinese tea ceremony could not be experienced if the tea wares involved were lacking. One of key items in the typical Chinese tea set is the Chinese teacup. These days teacups come in different designs and forms. They even vary in accordance with their intended use. This article will detail three of the best-known and most popular Chinese teacups currently available. These teacups are even available in the market and can be found online at Web sites such as EnjoyingTea. Filtering Tea Cups As the name suggests, tea drinkers primarily use a filtering teacup or mug to filter the tea. This kind of Chinese teacup is usually designed and crafted with internal filters. Here are few examples of filtering teacups: * Poet Filtering Teacup--a perfect companion for enjoying loose tea leaves, this Chinese teacup is actually a porcelain mug. It comes with an internal porcelain filter and its own lid, allowing room for tea leaves to expand and provide full infusion of the leaves. This variety of Chinese teacup commonly depicts a picture of a Tang dynasty poet inspired by outdoor beauty. * Yixing Clay Filtering Mug--The Jiangsu province, an area situated 120 miles northwest of Shanghai China, is the home of this teacup. The Yixing wares have enjoyed a reputation as the best vessels for tea for centuries. They were made from purple clay and are said to absorb the flavors and aroma of the tea. This style of Chinese teacup also has the ability to withstand high temperatures and is slow to conduct heat. This allows the handle to remain comfortably cool to the touch even when the cup contains particularly hot tea. And, of course, this Chinese teacup has an internal filter. Specialty Tea Cups * Four-Season Character Teacup--With four-season calligraphy character at all sides, this is but an exquisite porcelain teacup lives up to its name. * Small Peony Flower Gaiwan--As implied by its name, a lovely peony flower design adorns this porcelain Gaiwan. Becoming popular during the Chine Dynasty in China, Gaiwan actually originated from Ming Dynasty. While small enough to be held comfortably for drinking, this Chinese teacup is large enough to accommodate tea brewing, as its origins would suggest. Cast Iron Tea Cups * Black Cast Iron Teacup--Having long been considered as perfect for enjoying tea, this teacup can serve as a great companion for any cast iron teapot. Being a classical teacup, it is made from sturdy iron and has enamel coating on the interior that prevents rusting. Worth noting is that this Chinese teacup now comes in different colors.

    Types of chocolate

If you always like to accompany your cup of coffee with a chocolate cookie or other chocolate-based treat, or if you usually order a hot chocolate drink, you might not consider yourself a chocoholic, but you certainly make it to the fans' category. But even of chocolate is not your first choice when it comes to desert, you should probably by familiar with at least its main categories, just in case you are asked if you prefer couverture over white chocolate for your ice-cream glace. - Dark Chocolate can contain anything from 30% to 75% cocoa solids. It has a slightly sweet flavor and a dark color and it is the chocolate type most used in cooking. For everyday cooking and the majority of the recipes for dark chocolate, choose one with around 50% cocoa solids. However, dark chocolate with a higher cocoa solid content will give a richer, more intense, flavor. This chocolate is often called luxury or continental chocolate and has a cocoa solid content of between 70-75%. Occasionally, cooking experts support that it is essential to use a better chocolate, but the recipe should specify when that is the case. - Milk Chocolate, as its name suggests, contains milk and has lovely creamy, mild, and sweet flavor. It is mostly used as an eating chocolate, rather than in cooking. However it does have its place in chocolate cookery, especially for decorations, and when a milder, creamy flavor is required. It is more sensitive to heat than dark chocolate so care must be taken when melting it. - White Chocolate contains lower cocoa butter content and cocoa solids. It can be quite temperamental when used in cooking. Always choose a luxury white cooking chocolate to avoid problems and take great care not to overheat when melting it. White chocolate is useful also for color contrast in decoration, creating a dramatic effect when it is placed over darker backgrounds. - Couverture is the preferred chocolate for professional use, as it retains a high gloss after melting and cooling. Nevertheless, it requires tempering and is only available from specialist suppliers. In case it can be found to special cooking supply stores, it usually is more expensive than regular milk chocolate. - Chocolate Glace is a chocolate-flavored cake covering which is an inferior product not generally used by true chocolate lovers. However, it has a high fat content, making it easier to handle when making some decorations such as curls or caraque. In case you do not want to compromise flavor too much, but have difficulty making the decorations with pure chocolate, try adding a few squares of chocolate-flavored cake covering to a good quality chocolate. - Chocolate Chips are available in dark, milk, and white chocolate varieties, and are used primarily for baking and as decoration materials. - Coco Powder is the powder left after the cocoa butter has been pressed from the roasted and ground beans. It is unsweetened and bitter in flavor. It gives good, strong chocolate flavor when used in cooking.

Types of coffee grinders and how they work

When walking down the coffee aisle of most grocery stores, you will find a coffee grinder that customers use to grind coffee beans. A coffee grinder has also become a popular home appliance as the popularity of espresso and other coffee drinks has risen in the last two decades. Even the large number of coffee shops has not diminished the need of many coffee drinkers to grind their own beans in a coffee grinder. A coffee grinder will grind roasted coffee beans into grounds that are either fine or coarse. By grinding your own coffee, you choose how you want the grounds. A coffee grinder can produce fine or medium grounds which are best for traditional coffee makers. Those who love espresso will want to grind the beans into a fine grounds, which is similar to sugar or salt. Coarse coffee grounds are good for percolators or vacuum brewers. A coffee grinder comes in two main types. The first type of coffee grinder uses rotating metal blades. These blades on the coffee grinder chop up the coffee beans. The bladed coffee grinder allows the consumer to control the type of grounds. The type of grounds the bladed coffee grinder makes depends on how long you grind the beans. Another type of coffee grinder uses a grinder wheel. This is called a burr grinder. To get coarse or fine grounds, you move the burr on the coffee grinder. Many people say this type of coffee grinder allows you more control as to the type of grounds you make. The cost of the burr grinder depends on the type of wheel, whether it is flat or cone-shaped. The burr coffee grinder with the cone-shaped wheel rotates slowly and the coffee grinder will clog less. You can chose a coffee grinder that works in two different ways. The manual coffee grinder comes with a crank on its side. You must move the crank on the coffee grinder to grind your coffee. But if you don’t want to do that much work to have freshly ground coffee, you will want to purchase an electric coffee grinder. The electric coffee grinder is the most popular coffee grinder on the market today. Many electric coffee grinders are small and inexpensive so you can carry them anywhere to grind your perfect cup of coffee. The advantages to grinding your own coffee with a coffee grinder are many. You can grind coffee that suits your taste and not rely on pre-packaged coffee grounds. A coffee grinder can be found in most retail stores and online auction sites. A coffee grinder will range in price from about $20 to several hundred dollars. The coffee beans can be purchased at a grocery store or at a specialty coffee shop. How you want your coffee to taste and the type of coffee you brew will determine the type of coffee grinder you will need to purchase. The type of brewer you use to make your coffee will also determine the type of coffee grinder.

    Types of coffee packages

It might be a real eye-opener when people realize how many types of coffee packages there are offered in the Coffee Industry. There are so many different types of coffee packages because people drink coffee beverages in so many different environments. The flavors of the coffees vary too and that adds to the number of various types of coffee package designs too. Most people are familiar with the branded coffees that are found in supermarkets, and the typical sizes of those offerings. Some people prefer to buy the freeze dried coffee because it is easier to fix in the mornings when only a cup or two will suffice. Most people choose between a large can of ground coffee that is weighed in ounces instead of pounds. The pound size bags have been reduced lately too, or did the various types of coffee packages fool you too? Many of the hotel chains prefer to purchase the types of coffee packages that will fit the 4 cup coffee makers that are placed inside every hotel room. The various types of coffee packages that are chosen for the room will be typically more regular ground coffee pods, and one that will produce some decaffeinated coffee. Of course, the coloring for the decaffeinated coffee is usually green, and the regular coffee will be red. Many people do not realize how expensive the various types of coffee packages are that are placed in a hotel room. Some hotel coffee services charge right at $30 for 18 rooms to have a coffee packet inside the room. That is one cost that is doubled when two types of packages are placed, and again when two of one kind are chosen, and then for each decaffeinated pack that is chosen. The types of coffee packages that hotels choose and pay for will definitely make you review how you view your own coffee selection and price at the supermarket. The types of coffee packages that they choose will generally include Caribou French Ground or Caribou Blend Ground Coffee. If someone wanted to select a Starbucks brand for their hotel, then they would be expected to pay $37.40 or more for the same number of rooms. Most hotels will only offer a 4-cup coffee maker in each room because they cost less to buy. If the hotels would switch over to guest room coffee, they could really save a bunch of money. The types of coffee packages used in a room equipped with a Melitta or Hamilton Beach single cup coffee maker are pods. These pods of coffee will brew one cup apiece and cost the hotels only $4.39 for 12 cups.

Under counter coolers the modern wine cellar

Not too many years back if you heard the term wine cooler, your thoughts automatically went to Bartles & James and if someone told you about their wine collection you pictured a dusty underground vault, where bottles lined the walls in orderly rows, slowly aging to perfection. Your average person that lived in your average suburban home could enjoy a good glass of wine when out on the town, but seldom had the capacity to store wine in optimal conditions at home. With the advent of under counter coolers, a wine cellar is no longer a necessity in order to be a collector of fine wines. In fact, anyone can turn their kitchen into modern day wine cellar. Fine wines are expensive and they are only worth the money if you have a place to store them. Wine is alive, constantly changing according to its environment. Lots of things affect what changes a wine, including temperature, humidity, darkness, calm, ventilation and the angle at which it is stored. A good wine cooler will take these things into account. You always want your wine to be stored so that it is horizontal, at the lowest, stable temperature possible, in a place that is free of vibration, and away from places where you store items that have a strong odor. The ideal conditions for storing wine are at 50 -55 degrees and 70% humidity. A wine refrigerator or wine cooler is ideal for this task. Unlike regular refrigerators, wine coolers run a little warmer maintaining the optimum temperature for wine. Because they are electronic, their temperature never fluctuates, helping the wine to maintain its constant flavor. They also offer storage options so you can lay the bottles down, allowing the wine to always stay in contact with the cork. An under the counter wine cooler, built into your kitchen also offers extra protection from the natural light in your house. When you go out shopping for a wine cooler, there are some things to look for. You want to make sure that the door of the cooler is dark. Try to avoid clear glass coolers. They may look fabulous when they are filled with rows of wines glittering under the fluorescent lights of your kitchen, but all of the light that will seep in the bottles will ruin your wine. When wine is exposed to too much light it creates a condition called being “light struck.” The result of this condition is that the wine ends up tasting like dry cardboard. Another consideration when you purchase an under counter wine cooler is the location where you plan to install it. Stand in the middle of your kitchen and take a minute to observe each spot under your counters that the cooler could potentially be placed. Make sure you don’t install it near a stove or oven, which could affect its temperature. Stay away from the refrigerator and the dishwasher because vibrations from both of these appliances will over time, ruin your wine. Placing an under counter wine cooler near the sink also puts if too close to vibrations as water runs through the pipes. If you have an island that has no appliances situated on it you have found the perfect location for your under counter wine cooler. With the installation of an under counter wine cooler, you can serve wine to guests that came from your own “cellar” Since a cooler will maintain the perfect conditions for storing your wine, your guests will never know you didn’t trek down a flight of stars into a darkened basement, sift through row after row of fine pinots to choose the perfect vintage, and chill the bottle to perfection just for

    Understanding the benefits of antioxidants

With researchers continuing to wage war on cancers and other serious illness, the ways in which we can prevent – as well as treat – these maladies has become paramount in their efforts. While scientists strive to find effective cures for disease, they work just as hard to develop concise information on prevention. In so doing, experts turn to the role our diets play in our continued health. Subsequently, the benefits of antioxidants take center stage in a myriad of preventative functions. Research has shown that the benefits of antioxidants include the prevention and slowing of cancers, the prevention of heart disease and overall health of the body due to an incredibly bolstered immune system. Most experts agree that a daily integration of those foods high in antioxidants will go a long way to helping the body fight off illness. It has been shown that most cancers are linked to free radicals – those molecules in the body that have been compromised by poor diet or environmental factors and subsequently lose an electron. These rebel molecules look to their healthy counterparts to replace their missing electrons – what begins, in essence, a battle of free radicals on healthy cells. This, according to experts, is the beginning of cancer. The benefits of antioxidants include the ability of these substances to work on the side of healthy cells – bolstering the body’s immune system and allowing it to fight against free radicals. The reinforcement of the immune system also works to strengthen all body functions – preventing everything from heart disease to the common cold. A variety of foods contain the benefits of antioxidants including fruits such as watermelon and blueberries, green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale, tomato and tomato products, and even red wine and dark chocolate. Introducing these complex and beneficial nutrients will arm the human body with the tools necessary to protect health. To truly understand the benefits of antioxidants and identify the foods that contain them, it’s best to work with your doctor to set goals and lay out a plan. Before long you will be doing all that you can to ensure yourself a lifetime of health.

Understanding the process of cheese making

The process of cheese making results in a product that is nutritious, enjoyable and satisfying. Cheese making is a respected skill that has withstood the flavorful test of time. Before having the next wine and cheese experience it may be beneficial to the consumer to understand what factors are involved in cheese making. Therefore, it is important to know what cheese consists of, the process that is utilized in cheese making and any variances in the process. Ingredients Used In Cheese Making The ingredients that are used in cheese making include milk and water. Specifically, the portion of milk that is used to create cheese is the curd. The curd is that portion of milk that has turned sour and is white in color. The specific ingredients that are found within the curd is the fat content of the milk, proteins and various vitamins and minerals. Another by-product that is created when the milk sours is the whey. The whey is a liquid that is light yellow in color. Cheese Making Process The actual cheese making process begins with the gathering of the curd. This curd is then pressed into cheese moulds. Once the curd has been compacted into the moulds the moulds are immersed into a briny solution. A briny solution is defined as water that is highly saturated with salt. Immersing the cheese moulds into the briny solution is a process that lasts for several days. Following this step in the cheese making process the cheese in transition is stored. This aging process then allows for the cheese to reach its full flavorful potential. Cheese Making Variances Today cheese making is mass produced at creameries. The process is the same because this is a regulated industry. However, there are a few caveats. Some of these variances include the fact that modern day creameries utilize milk that has been pasteurized. In addition, the fat content of the cheese produced on a farm may vary from the fat content of cheese produced in a creamery. This is due to the fact cheese making at a creamery is standardized which results in the fat content of the cheese being uniform. In addition to the cheese making variances between a farm and creamery are the differences in types of cheese produced. For example some cheeses have a higher fat content and are specifically made that way. Edam cheese, which is made from milk in which the fat has been skimmed out, has a fat content of forty percent. While other cheese, such as Gouda cheese, may have a fat content of forty eight percent or higher. Other low-fat cheeses may have a fat content of twenty percent.

    Unique gift baskets for everyone

I grew up in a family where giving was practiced on a regular basis. We did not have a great deal of money. My parents worked hard for everything that they had and everything that they gave to us. They always managed to give us some unique gift baskets even if we weren't sure we would get anything. One way to be sure you can come up with something is to buy items when you see them on sale and store them until needed. That way I have a supply of things to give. My favorite thing to do is to develop unique gift baskets for the people I am giving to. This is where the small things I pick up through the year come into play. I think about the recipient of the unique gift I am going to make and I find a container that suits the person I am giving the gift too. I have used a variety of things. Sometimes the container is the main gift and other times it simply holds the other items together. The unique gift baskets that I gave a couple of my friends for Christmas were by far my favorite. My friends love to garden and I purchased sturdy watering cans that became the basket for the gift. Inside I placed gardening shears, a hand pruner, a hand held spade and rake for potting plants and a mister to apply pesticides. On the handle of the water can I tied a pair of garden gloves that were folded together and fanned out to look like a bow. My friends loved their unique gift baskets. You can always add seeds or a couple of plants to suggest that spring is almost here. You can make up a unique gift basket of the recipient's favorite cosmetics. A unique gift basket of games including a deck of cards. Another unique gift basket is a collection of birthday cards, get well cards, etc. and some stamps so they can be mailed. If your friend likes a particular kind of candy that you make you can make up a batch and include a special container and wrap it with colorful wrapping. Another unique gift basket would be two our three picture puzzles that are a bit hard to put together. If they like tea find a lovely tea cup and add some special tea and a box of biscuits. Movie tickets to a movie they want to see is always welcome. Your unique gift basket can be something little like a pair of earrings you know she would love or a large collection of something they may have been looking for and you found in your shopping excursions. I have found unique dolls and gave them to my adult friends for their grandchildren to play with when they visited. Unique gift baskets come in all shapes and sizes - you just have to know the recipient and what they like. Remember where to get your unique gift baskets.

    Unusual uses for coffee machines

So most of us love coffee as a drink, and more often that not a means to stay awake during the day, but how often do we think to use coffee as an ingredient in the food we eat? You could be using that coffee maker to prepare your main course and not just at the end of the meal. Immediately you will think of desserts or chocolate, which are the most common uses of coffee in food, and we will discuss these in more detail, but you shouldn’t limit your imagination to sweet product. Coffee can also give a real kick to barbeque glazes, marinades, chili and even some casseroles. Before you start throwing instant granules into all your dishes, bear in mind that fresh coffee produces the best flavor. You want to use freshly ground beans, preferably ground yourself if you have the equipment. If you need to brew the coffee, make it with clean filtered water and don’t make it until you actually need it. Generally coffee to be used in food should be at least twice as strong as drinking coffee depending on your tastes. One popular savory sauce to make use of coffee is meatloaf sauce, which is best served with Australian meatloaf. You need to mix a tablespoon of coffee with a small amount of water, some tomato ketchup, Worcester sauce and a little dry red wine. Vinegar, a squeeze of lemon, dark brown sugar and some vinegar are the rest of the ingredients to add to the zesty concoction. You should cook the meat at three hundred and seventy five degrees Fahrenheit for thirty or so minutes, before adding the sauce and continuing cooking for an additional forty five minutes. A popular use of coffee in sweet food is espresso brownies, which will make any social occasion a success. Mix together sugar, a pinch of salt, and some butter over a low heat. Add some vanilla to taste and broken up chocolate, preferably sweet milk chocolate to contrast with the bitter coffee. Add some finely ground dark roast coffee, such as an Italian or French roast. Mix all the ingredients together and then allow slight cooling. Fold eggs and flour into the mixture whilst still a little warm. The resulting combination should be baked in a moderate oven for thirty minutes and allowed to become cold before sampling. There are so many possibilities when using coffee in your food, cakes, gateaux, cookies and ice creams all taste fantastic with a coffee flavoring. Even a simple sponge can be livened up with coffee icing or coffee cream filling. The popular Italian dessert tiramisu is becoming a global favorite with its rich combination of espresso, marsala, sponge and mascarpone cheese. A number of cocktails are now incorporating coffee. As well as the well known Kahula, various coffee liqueurs such as Tia Maria make versatile cocktail ingredients. A final possibility is coffee syrup, a perfect topping to almost any desert or ice cream. You just combine sugar with good quality double strength brewed coffee and boil to dissolve the sugar. Simmer over a lower heat until the mixture thickens and then allow to become cool. So get a little creative with your coffee machines and see what innovative dishes you can come up with using coffee as the special ingredient.

Urbani the best truffles in the world

Urbani family has been a prestigious – and respected - name in the truffle business for generations. From its inception, in 1850, under the guidance of Carlo Urbani, the Urbani reputation for excellence has been carefully and faithfully handed down from one generation to the next. As a result, the passage of so many years has served only to strengthen the Urbani name and heritage, as each newer generation blends the traditions, customs and knowledge of the previous one, and adds its own unique sense of enrichment. Thus the Urbani name maintains its esteemed reputation of pre-eminence, and continues to represent the best in truffle sourcing and processing. Today, the Urbani Group is proudly and effectively directed by Paolo and Bruno Urbani, direct descendant brothers of the Urbani founders. Each one of these highly dedicated and trusted men serves as the primary conduit through which all Italian and foreign associates make their initial contact with the Urbani Tartufi company. In addition, Paolo and Bruno Urbani represent the assurance that there will be a constant supply of truffles. The success of Urbani Tartufi, in great measure, has been made possible by the unique charisma and profound knowledge of the Urbani brothers. For both Paolo and Bruno, their greatest pleasure is seeing their truffles, which are found and picked in fertile woodlands thousands of miles away, being served on tables in some of the most prestigious restaurants in the world, or as stunning exhibits in famous shop windows, where they entice shoppers who know – and long for – the exotic taste and pleasures of a truffle. Paolo and Bruno Urbani understand that because of the Urbani legend and legacy, they have become an integral part of a highly successful and fascinating world that for centuries has revolved around the delicate truffle. By providing the world with this rarest of delicacies, the Urbanis understand the economic contract that exists between them and their workers, and between them and their clients. These are contracts that they take with the utmost seriousness and sense of moral obligation. They not only acknowledge the benefit of hard work; they celebrate it. For this reason, Paolo Urbani received the highest sign of honor – the "Cavaliere del Lavoro" - from the President of the Italian Republic. This prestigious title is reserved only for those special (and rare) entrepreneurs who have made a huge economic impact on Italy.

Use draft beer to boost sales

Restaurant owners who offer a selection of beer without any draft beer are losing out. Draft beer sales in restaurants are often equal to or greater than bottle sales when a choice of both is available. What makes draft beer so appealing to people? It can be theorized that it not only has to do with taste, but with aesthetics as well. With so many choices of beer available, more and more people are being choosy about not only the kinds of beers they drink, but how they drink it as well. Glassware has come out in hundreds of shapes and sizes to encompass that perfect beer for the thirsty consumer. Large glasses, ornate glasses, promotional offers, and colorful signs and decorum make a big difference when it comes to sales. We have truly become a society of brand name conscious consumers and this is no exception in the beer market. It makes a lot of sense when there are so many different types of beers. Some of them will taste completely different from another and yet they are still called the same thing. When a customer walks into a bar and orders a beer, a lot of times the first thing they see are the beer tap handles displaying the kinds of beer they offer. These beer tap handles are often ornate and eye catching in addition to displaying the different brands. As someone sees a recognizable brand name they are more likely to give up the search and go with what they know. Because draft beer is much cheaper than bottled beer, profits can also be much higher with proper regulation and care. Knowing what beers sell the best, sales figures, and keg yields are the key components in successful draft beer sales. Draft beer is profitable only when strict attention is paid to the inventory. In addition to appealing beer tap handles, many companies will offer a variety of beer glasses that go with their particular brand of beer. These beer glasses have the logo of the beer and appeal to the bar-going public. With a little promotion and strategic placement of these products, restaurant beer sales have the potential to increase dramatically. Occasionally some beer companies and distributors will work with restaurants to increase beer sales by offering a product that can be given away to customers in a promotion. Some potential problems can arise with a draft beer system. Temperature is the most prevalent problem. If kegs are not stored in the correct temperature, the beer foams up and volume per keg goes down. Dirty lines running from the keg to the beer tap handles can also affect the taste and amount of beer attained per keg. A badly tapped keg has the potential to lose pressure and affect the yield of the beer per keg as well. An inexperienced bartender can also affect keg yields by doing bad pours or improper storage. However, all these problems can easily be avoided with a little attention and care. There is a little potential for some problems, but the advantages and increased profit of draft beer make it well worth the effort.

Use your coffee machine to make your next meal

If you love your coffee, you will love dishes made from coffee. There are many dishes that use the wonderful taste of coffee as their main component. Let your coffee maker help you prepare your meals. Most people think of using coffee to make desserts-and there are great recipes for that-but coffee adds a distinctive flavor to many other dishes as well. You can make barbecue sauces and glazes for meats, and put coffee in chili and pot roast recipes, to name a few. Just as you use other fresh ingredients in your recipes, you should be sure the coffee you use is fresh. Either buy freshly ground coffee or grind your own, with your coffee grinding machine. If the recipe calls for brewed coffee, brew it just before you use it; don't use your leftover coffee for this. Most of the recipes using coffee use coffee that is 2-3 times stronger than drinking coffee, since the flavor is going to be blended. So here are a few of the wonderful recipes using coffee: Coffee Meatloaf Sauce: Add a tablespoon of instant coffee to a blend of the following ingredients: a quarter cup of water, a half a cup of ketchup, a quarter cup of dry red wine, a quarter cup of Worcestershire sauce, two teaspoons of vinegar, an ounce of margarine, two tablespoons of lemon juice and a teaspoon of brown sugar. Cook your favorite meatloaf recipe, but after about 1/2 hour of cooking, pour this sauce over it and continue baking for 45 minutes more at 375 degrees (190C) for tender, delicious meatloaf. Espresso Brownies: Gently heat a cup of sugar, a quarter teaspoon of salt, and a stick and a half of butter in a sauce pan; add a teaspoon of vanilla, four ounces of chopped, semi-sweet chocolate and stir until melted in. Add a tablespoon of dark roast coffee. If you would like to add a crunch, add two teaspoons of espresso granules. Mix everything together and let cool, fold in three eggs and a cup of flour. Pour into a rectangular baking pan, bake for 30 minutes and set out to cool. Perfect brownies every time! Black Russian Cake: Make dark chocolate cake mix, your own or from a box, and add a cup of vegetable oil, a package of instant chocolate pudding, four eggs, and a half a cup of creme de cacao. To this mix, add a cup of Russian coffee. (A cup of black coffee with an ounce of vodka and an 1/2 ounce of Kahlua added.) Beat well and put into a tube pan and bake for 45 minutes. Your guests will love this switch from Black Forest Cake. You can even enjoy great cocktails using coffee; Kahlua is only one of many. If you want to be able to add coffee to just about everything you like, try making your own coffee syrup. There's even a recipe for coffee syrupbine a cup of sugar with a cup of double strength Colombian coffee. Boil, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolved. Lower heat, simmer and stir for three minutes, then cool. You can put this flavoring into almost any of your favorite dishes and add the special touch of coffee.
