    April fools day

    #1

April Fool's Day, is not officially considered a holiday, is most definitely a notable day that is celebrated in many countries on April 1. The thing that is so special about April 1 (April Fools) is that it is the day for playing hoaxes and practical jokes of varied sophistication on others. The aim of these jokes is to bring embarrassment to the gullible. Superstitions have it that the practical jokes are meant to be played before noon, and that those that are performed afterwards will bring bad luck to the perpetrator. This limitation is widely losing it's value as a superstition as it is believed to have been conspired up by annoyed parents and school teachers who were wanting a respite from the day of pranks, as well due to the fact that many major hoaxes throughout history have appeared after noon. Another superstition is that anyone who fails to respond in the proper spirit of tolerance and amusement to the jokes played on them is also said to be liable to suffer from bad luck. Weaker sources indicated that being fooled by a pretty girl will be accompanied by marriage, or at bare minimum a friendship with her. That sounds like a good deal if she is truely pretty and it's not just April Fools. Along the lines of relationships some people believe that being married on April Fools' Day is not a good idea for a man, and that forever in the future he will be ruled by his wife. The origin of April Fool's day is not clearly known, but it is generally accepted to have come about as a result to the changes in the calendar system. The New Year celebrations used to begin on 25 March and last for a week, ending on 1 April. In 1582, King Charles IX of France brought in the new Gregorian calendar, in which the new year began on 1 January. Unfortunately, some people did not hear about the change, and many others simply refused to break the tradition. These people became the object of so-called 'fool's errands' and tests of gullibility.

Inspirational the lessons of april fools day

Who does not know about The First of April? We try to make fools of others on this day to have a hearty laugh. It is the battle of wits on this day. All of us expect to get fooled, and try to save ourselves from making others laugh at our expense. Are all of us not fools even otherwise? This may sound shocking; so let me tell you why I think so. How about politicians and leaders? They make fools of us all through the year. Isn't correct? They invent fantastic excuses and give more implausible promises. Many of us get so emotional with the speeches that we get fooled. What of education? The formal education promises us so many things. Each student thinks that he/she will learn something great while getting a degree. Is it really so? Does that happen? In the name of formal education, most of us lose our original thinking and try to learn all those things that are written by those who never received formal education. Think about what I am saying. I may be wrong, but so are so many other writers. The language has to be good, captivating and emotive. And you will get fooled. Love is the biggest joke of the life. A very good feeling, that results in so much pain for a big majority that in the end, they all feel that they were fooled. They were fooled into giving so much of themselves to someone thoroughly undeserving. The love that promised moons, makes people land in craters. This is no laughing matter, because the hurt is so intense that a heart broken person will never be able to explain it. Life itself is a process that fools at every moment. We try to work, think, collect money, create masterpieces and preach others inspiring stories. We try to do so much in life and feel that we are making great use of the time. What is the ultimate result? Death. We all die. The ruins of many old monuments, the old manuscripts, the fossils and everything else we can find in a museum tell us about what our forefathers tried. Why and with what result? They got nothing but death in the end, and so shall we get death. Death will make a big fool of all of us in the end.

The day of April fool's has been approximately since at least the year 1582, which is from a long time ago; when the country of France altered from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian. Years back the news spread extremely slowly and many people even did not know about the change for lots of years. : April 1st: This is the day upon which we are reminded of what we are on the other three-hundred and sixty-four." – Mark Twain Maybe you know that in the sixteenth century in France, the start of a New Year was on the first of April (Some documents said that the New Year was celebrated for 8 days, beginning on March 25 and this celebration culminated on April 1). Certainly, there was no “Happy New Year” of ABBA but people also celebrated the New Year in nearly the same way as we do nowadays with parties and dance into the late hours of the night. Suddenly in 1562 (under Charles IX), the new year fell on the first of January as Pope Gregory introduced a new calendar for the Christian world. It was a big change, however, some obstinate people did not accepted this change, or some others even did not know anything about the new calendar (you can figure out the reason when news traveled by foot on those days), so they continued to celebrate New Year’s Day on April 1. Other people thought this was so ridiculous that they played tricks on them and call them April fools.” The word April fool” or “Poisson d’Avril” (which means “April Fish”) has become very popular and the first of April turned to be a very special day of the year for tricks and pranks and making other people believe that something false is true. Let’s have a look at how people trick and prank on this day? With the unlimited creativeness of human being, tricks and pranks perform in several ways from simple, such as “Hey dude, there is some mud on your face” to elaborate ones, such as setting roommate’s alarm clock back an hour. Whatever the prank is, the pranksters usually shout to their victims “April Fool!” at the end of a joke.

In France today, French children fool their friends by taping a “paper fish” to their friends’ backs. When those friends discover this trick, the pranksters yell “Poisson d’Avril!” In England, jokes are played only in the morning. Fools are called 'gobs' or 'gobby' and the victim of a joke is called a 'noodle.

' It was considered bad luck to play a practical joke on someone after noon. The news media has flavored April Fool’s Day with more humor and hilariousness. For instance, a couple of years ago, one of the most popular magazines for teen in Asia informed that Westlife – the super band in Ireland and the U. K – had died in a plane crash. Many teen girls went on a hunger strike with countless teardrops in 1 week until the next issue of the magazine said it was only a joke on April Fool’s Day. One another example, a British short film showed on April Fool’s Day was a fairly detailed documentary about “spaghetti farmers” and how they harvest their crop from the spaghetti trees.

Of course, it was also a prank but in fact, there were many people believing in it. One more April Fool’s day is soon coming. Have you had any plan to fool somebody on that “for – fun – only” observance? If you say no, I would suggest a funny and polite way: make a prank call to your buddies with your changed voice. Just download a software called “Voice Changer Software” from audio4fun which helps change your voice from male to female or vice versus and imitate the voice of movie stars or famous singers. Imagine how funny your buddies’ face is when they receive that call from you! And you must remain forever vigilant otherwise you may be the next April Fool! Moreover, do remember that not everybody feels interested in your prank. "You couldn't fool your mother on the foolingest day of your life even if you had an electrified fooling machine." – Homer Simpson.

Fake Hot Dogs And French Fries Your kids will love fake hot dogs and French fries for lunch this April fools day. Peel a banana and spread peanut butter all over it to give it the appearance of a hot dog. Serve it in a hot dog bun with some strawberry preserve drizzled over the hotdog to make it look like ketchup. For the fries, peel some apples and cut them into sticks resembling fresh fries. Roll them in a cinnamon and sugar mixture and bake them for 8 to 10 minutes in a preheated 400 F oven. Serve with a side of strawberry preserve as fake ketchup. What a fun lunch. Fool everyone in the family with these fun dinner and desert ideas. They won’t believe you are actually serving cake for dinner and spaghetti for dessert. Cherry Cake Or Meatloaf? Your Family will be in for a big surprise with this meatloaf cake. Prepare your favorite meatloaf and bake it in two 9-inch cake pans. Reduce the cooking time from what you would usually cook it since the meatloaf cake is thinner. While the meatloaf cakes are baking, prepare some creamy mashed potatoes. Spread a layer of mashed potatoes on one of the cakes and top it with the second one. Use the remaining mashed potatoes to “frost” your cake. Cut a few cherry tomatoes in half and use them to decorate the top. Serve Spaghetti As Desert Since your serving cake for dinner, it only makes sense to eat spaghetti for dessert. Put a slice of pound cake on a plate. Spoon some softened ice cream in a pastry bag with a thin round tip. Pipe the ice cream over the pound cake in a swirly motion to resemble spaghetti noodles. Freeze for about 15-20 minutes to allow the ice cream to harden back up. Top with strawberry jam as tomato sauce and a few coconut flakes to resemble Parmesan cheese. Don’t Forget The Drinks Meals like these deserve a fun twist on a beverage as well. Prepare some lemon Jello and pour it into glasses. Add a straw and let it set. It will look just like a glass of lemonade. You can even decorate the glass with a slice of lemon. Have fun with these creative April Fool’s recipes this April 1st. They are sure to make your family smile. Enjoy!

    April fool s day activities

April Fool's Day is quite an appropriate way to begin National Humor Month. Here is some background information plus a few activities for you to enjoy. Did you know that April Fool's Day began in France in 1564? Before then, the new year was celebrated on April 1! As some Europeans continued celebrating the new year on that day, they were called April fools and their friends would play silly tricks on them. The harmless pranks of April Fool's Day take place in the US, Germany, France, Great Britain, and other countries. In France, an April fool is a poisson d'Avril, an April fish, and chocolate fish are a special treat. In Scotland, people call you an April cuckoo. Be sure not to play a joke after 12 noon or you will be the fool! Now, for a few activities: 1. Cut out a 1" square for every child playing this game. Write "A" on one of them and put them all in a bag. Have all children choose a square, not telling anyone which they chose, and put them back in the bag. As children sit in a circle, a child is chosen to go first. If he did not choose the "A", he will walk around the circle and return to his spot; another child is chosen. Only the child who chose the "A" will walk around the circle, tap another on the shoulder, say "April Fool!" and start running. The tapped child chases him. If the tapped child does not beat the first child back to his spot, he continues walking around the circle and taps someone else; if he DOES beat the first child back, the first child has another turn to walk, tap, and run. 2. For older children, follow the same directions for the squares. After the squares have all been chosen, let the children scatter in the play area. At the Start signal, have children start moving around. The child who chose the "A" is IT and tries to tag the other children by whispering "April Fool!" each time he tags someone. Children that are tagged must freeze into statues. IT must be subtle in order to sneak up and tag the other children. NOTE: The top two games are easily adapted to any letter of the alphabet for any theme. Try one for a birthday party! 3. Have children create their own lists of ten things (a good way to review nouns) or create a class list. Have an interesting variety. Without letting children see the silly story they are going to create, call on ten to say one of their words or to call out one from the class list. Fill in the blanks of this story (from Spring is Here, Macmillan Seasonal Activity Packs, 1987) as they provide the words: One day, I put on my beautiful brand - new _____. Then I went out for a walk. The first thing I saw was a funny _____. It was right next to a striped _____! Then a tiny little _____wearing a huge _____walked past me. I was so surprised that I forgot to watch where I was going. I walked right into a big _____and bumped my _____. Then I saw a huge _____riding on a small _____. I laughed so hard I almost dropped my _____. What a silly way to start the day! 4. See if you are fooled by these riddles! a. Which animals can jump higher than a tree? b. What are the things you'll never eat for lunch? c. What do you lose every time you stand up? d. Where was the Declaration of Independence signed? e. Why can't you tell a secret in a vegetable garden? 5. Remember that any time is great for a SMILE BREAK! Try it when you feel tense! I hope these ideas are useful and ignite your own creativity. Enjoy! ANSWERS to riddles: a. Every animal can jump higher than a tree because a tree can't jump! b. Breakfast or dinner c. Your lap d. At the bottom of the page e. The corn has ears and the potatoes have eyes.

Be silent when others cowardly speak; Speak when others are cowardly silent. Refrain when others foolishly give, Give when others foolishly refrain. Wise men see divinity in every face when, Fools see demons in every one. Wise men respond to attack with love in their hearts when, Fools react with fear and anger. Be not like fools who judges others, But be wise in judging thyself foremost. Seek not short-lived pleasures which cause thee to die as a mortal, But seek eternal values that thou may transform into an immortal. Be wise, live and act with soul purpose, Unlike fools who live and act carnally. Thoughts bring pain, thoughts bring pleasure, Transcend such ambiguity by transcending thoughts. Fools flee problems only to face them again, Be wise, face problems that thou may rise higher. Deceit, violence, selfishness--these maintain mortality, Honesty, non-violence, selfishness--these evokes immortality. Fools believe what they are not, to be what they are. Wise men understand what they are, to be what they are. Fools are slaves to Nature; Wise men are her handmaidens. Fools are attracted to the pseudo-gods in the forms of darkness, Wise men are attracted to the One God in the form of Light. There is release and benefit in knowing Truth; There is bondage and harm in being deceived by the false. Fools are attracted to appearances and are thus deceived, Wise men know their essence and are thus liberated. The values of men are foolishness to God, The values of God are foolishness to men. Death is a stranger to and feared by fools, To wise men, "death" is a friend and welcomed. Fools accuse all but themselves for their personal problems; Wise men blame themselves alone for the problems of the world. Fools pursue instant development and attainment--their acquisitions are subsequently instantly lost; Wise men work diligently upon their own development and attainment--their acquisitions are permanently gotten. Fools seek the quick way and thus unknowingly tread the long path; Wise men seek the right way and knowingly tread the quick path. Fools look down and laugh, Wise men look up and sigh. Fools are arrogantly complacent with their abundance, Wise men give thanks for their mere pittance. A fool is a wise man at a certain stage of spiritual progress, Just as a wise man is a fool at a certain stage of spiritual progression. Fools believe complexity to be of value, Wise men know simplicity to be of true value. Wise men believing themselves wise are foolish, Fools knowing themselves foolish are wise. The purpose of the Soul a fool does ignore, The purpose of the false ego the wise dismiss. False beliefs create the false ego, True knowledge manifests the True Soul. Fools are asleep and dead to Reality, Wise men are awake and alive to it. Fools believe the mind-body continuum to be the Self and thus they suffer, Wise men know the Self to be the Self and are thus liberated. Fools delay spiritual-culture for they forget the nearness of death; Wise men cultivate themselves every minute for they remember it. Fools are attached to worldly phenomena and thus experience pleasure and pain, Wise men detach themselves from worldly occurrences and thus transcend those dual states. Fools find ways to work with human laws in conducting their misdeeds, Wise men simply obey Cosmic laws in conducting their lives. Those who are beautiful see only beauty in God's creation; Those who are ugly see only ugliness in everything Fools conform to the letter of the law and are thus bound by it, Wise men conform to the spirit of the law and are thereby liberated. Fools understand the false to be true, and the true to be false, Wise men know the false to be false and the true to be true. Fools believe wisdom, experience, and spiritual development to be related to the physical years of a person; Wise men know that wisdom, experience, and spiritual development to be related to the soul. Fools only honor those that benefit them, Wise men honor all whom they benefit. A fool is in confusion by his own state of mind, A wise men is in a state of joy for that is his true nature. Fools believe themselves powerful but are dependent upon their external supports; Wise men are powerful for they are dependent upon none but their own subtle energy. Fools await their luck, await their fate; Wise men create their luck, create their fate. Without humility one is never wise, With humility one is never foolish. All that is of value one takes along to the other side, All that is worthless one leaves behind. Fools attack that which they do not know, Wise men surrender to that which they do know. Those that boast of seeing God's light and are untransformed are fools, Wise men, however, are silent in words but loud in virtues. He who would not give will not be given, He who gives shall be looked after. Fools emphasize the pronoun "I" too much, Wise men no longer has such an egoic sense. Fools judge what they see at the surface, what they believe to be and are thus misled. Wise men look into the hearts, the hidden thoughts, the character and light of men, and thus they judge wisely. The costliest thing in the world fools ignore, Wise men treasure and nurture it constantly and lovingly. Fools believe that they have found what they are searching for and are thus complacent; Wise men are never complacent no matter where they stand. Experiences serves no purpose unless its value is extracted; Its extraction is likewise valueless unless it causes a spiritual transformation. Discipline may result in liberation or it may result in bondage, Fools serve discipline whereas wise men are served by it. He who knows least believe himself to know most; And he who knows most believe himself to know least. The higher we get the more subtle the temptations; Fools will always be deceived, glamored and deluded--wise men will always be on guard. Spiritual transformation requires more than a single step; The Spiritual Path is an eternal trek with a receding goal. One's spiritual understanding is in a constant state of evolution; There is no moment when a person is completely right in his comprehension. Humans who believe human beings to be the pinnacle of creation remain as such. Saints believing sainthood to be the highest remain as such; gods who believe godhood to be the highest will likewise remain at that level. Without opening the heart jewel there is no true unfoldment; Without love and compassion unfoldment is not true. The purpose of life is more than knowing God; For by knowing God one becomes aware of more purposes in life. He lies when he says he knows God and yet shows vices; One's virtues declares one's knowledge of God. Fools wait to be chosen, Wise men choose to be chosen. Fools think as mortals and thus suffer; Wise men think as immortals and are thus liberated. The disciplines of the past may not be applicable for the present; The disciplines of the present may not be applicable for the future. Fools unthinkingly follow disciplines without questioning their purpose; Wise men seek to learn their purposes and to know their relevancy and necessity. In everything, fools seek quantity rather than quality; Wise men, however, seek quality rather than quantity. Fools pride themselves in being the highest-evolved creature in the universe; Wise men know themselves to be the brothers to the lowest and highest beings. Fools pride themselves with their years of discipline and experiences of a single incarnation; they often judge others by this human standard. Wise men know their practices and experiences of many incarnations but are silent; they judge others by this Soul standard. Those new to spiritual practices in this lifetime may be old veterans of many incarnations. Those experienced in spiritual practices in this lifetime may be toddlers from a soul-standpoint. The captain has her heart book review

    #1

Mrs. Salinas has written a very nice romance novel that readers can disappear in for a few days. The Captain Has Her Heart was just recently released, but is already stealing hearts! The main character, April, is a nurse who really loves her job and often takes on extra shifts. Her husband is away completing his internship to become a Doctor. April is awoken by a man that comes in with an unusual fever – in fact they are both awaken by each other. She returns to her empty home only to receive a "dear John" letter from her husband who wants a hurried and clean divorce so that he can pursue his new interest. Shocked and staggered by the loss of the plans that she had for her life, April’s strong spirit soon has her taking on the job of a traveling nurse – and ends up not only finding herself but a whole lot more. Commercial pilot careers are notorious for short-term relationships, but Trig Power was more than willing to take the chance when fate kept placing April near him. He adores her deeply but must also face a shattering experience before he can do anything else. In the end, he learns that what makes a man cannot be seen in a mirror. Author, A. G. Salinas is a wife and mother of three. She shares a similar career with her main character, which really helps her bring the experience of nursing to her readers. ISBN#: 1-4241-1111-0 Author: A. G. Pay per play ppp advertising an internet gold mine or fools gold

    #1

Recently, I received an offer for Pay Per Play advertising. If you haven't heard of it, in a nutshell it is a 5 second audio commercial that will play each time a visitor hits your site. You will get paid for every visitor to your website, 100% conversion with nothing to do and nothing to click. To me, this concept is huge. TV and Radio have been doing this to us for years, whether or not we want to hear an advertisement, it is presented to us. The big corporate giants have been branding themselves this way on TV and radio for a millennium. Sure you can change the channel to avoid an advertisement, but; you have already heard the sponsors message. I get up and leave the room when the commercial stretch comes on during a program I'm watching. I have commented to my wife on numerous occasions that there are way too commercials during my favorite shows. Pay Per Play is different though; it's a one shot, 5 second clip. It's here and then it's gone. It doesn't play over and over and there is never more than one. If a major advertiser wants to throw me a few pennies to say their name on my website, more power to them. To me, it's all upside for the website owner; or so I thought. I went to the site and read everything I could find and my conclusion at the end of my research was favorable. Then I did a search on Pay Per Play on the search engines. What was a solid decision in the beginning became a bit unsteady; but for me, I believe the scale still tips toward Pay Per Play being a good addition to a website. I found that across the web, Pay Per Play is being met with mixed emotions. Pay Per Play is not scheduled to go live until February 1st, 2008 so everything is speculation about it's debut and further it's efficacy to publishers and advertisers alike. Some believe Pay Per Play will rival Google AdSense for revenue to it's publishers. Others are not so sure, in fact many netizens have come right out against such an unwanted intrusion and vowed to immediately leave a website if such an audio message is played over their speakers. I also found that there is some dirt being thrown about the company that has brought the concept to market. To mention them here is not appropriate; but due diligence is warranted if you think Pay Per Play is a good opportunity for your sites. As with any new opportunity, the people that come to the table have histories of successful and not so successful ventures and there seems to be some bad blood regarding a previous affiliate program. If I were being asked to lay down a large amount of cash here, I might have some reservations and be inclined to do more research before moving forward. With Pay Per Play as it is, there is no upfront cost, so to me the company and the players will start with a clean slate; but I will keep a keen eye to make sure everything stays on the up and up. This opportunity seems to be profound. I have often compared the internet to the California Gold Rush in the 1800's. Many, many affiliate marketers that were lucky enough to get in before the Dot Com crash had the opportunity to mine the easy gold and make huge piles of cash with not a lot of effort. Fast forward to today and the rest of us show up and find there is real money still left to be made; but it will require rolling up our sleeves and working harder and smarter to find the gold. Ahh and be ever cautious of the fools gold! In the gold rush days, many a fortune were lost on Fools Gold. So that begs the question, is Pay Per Play a new found gold mine or is it fools gold? Will it rival Google AdSense? The jury is still out on the answer; but somebody, somewhere will stumble onto the next big internet wave.

National car care month set for april

    #1

The Car Care Council is dedicating an entire month to reminding drivers of the importance of being "car care aware." National Car Care Month, a nationwide effort to focus motorists' attention on the essentials of vehicle care and maintenance, will take place in April. During National Car Care Month, many repair facilities and auto parts stores join local businesses, civic groups, radio stations and others to sponsor free vehicle checkups. The events are held in parking lots at shopping malls, schools, businesses and other highly visible locations. "The industry has embraced April as an ideal time of year to conduct National Car Care Month activities," said Rich White, executive director of the Car Care Council. "In April 2005, we plan on conducting more comprehensive vehicle checkup events and promotions that will provide consumers with more information about preventive vehicle maintenance." Nationwide results from last year's checkups underscore the continuing need for vehicle maintenance education. The results showed that 87 percent of all vehicles needed repair or maintenance; 34 percent had low or dirty engine oil; 27 percent had inadequate cooling protection; 25 percent needed new belts; 24 percent had dirty air filters; and 26 percent had low or contaminated brake fluid. The Car Care Council is the source of information for the "Be Car Care Aware" campaign, educating consumers about the benefits of regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair.

April celebrities share the diamond birthstone with you

    #1

If you are still young enough to admit you have birthdays and your birthday falls in April then you already know the diamond is April’s birthstones. Celebrities who already have a love affair with diamonds are even more apt to be seen wearing diamonds if their birthday is in April. There are many April celebrities that share the diamond birthstone with you. But did you know that the diamond is also deep in mystical powers from ancient times? It is said to enhance ones competence, trust and love relationships. Diamonds also have a long history in their medicinal qualities. During ancient times diamonds were believed to heal illness. Diamonds were first placed into the bed to warm the diamond to enhance their healing qualities. It is even said that over the centuries Cupid’s arrows were tipped in diamonds and thus it earned its reputation as the perfect gift of love. The white and brilliant hues diamonds signify life, joy and innocence. But really diamonds come in a wide range of colors other than white which includes shades of gray, brown, yellow, blue, red, and green. Pre 1400’s diamonds were only available to those of royal blood who were the only people able to wear the symbol of courage and invincibility. During the mid 1400s The Archduke Maximillian gave a diamond ring to Mary of Burgundy beginning the long tradition of diamond engagement rings which is still carried on today. The practice of wearing a diamond engagement ring on the third finger often referred to as the ring finger began in Egyptian times because it was believed the vein of love ran through this finger directly to the heart. Besides being the birthstone for April there is no gift that is more symbolic of love than a diamond and no more convincing promise of eternal and everlasting love. Ancient Greeks believed that diamonds were splinters of stars that had fallen from the sky making a visit to earth. Others revered to diamonds as Gods Tears or dew drops. The origin of the first diamond has never been solved and remains a mystery to geologists and sciences even today. Initially geologists thought that India was the first river-bed source for mining diamonds. The ancient Hindus called the diamond Vajra which means lightening. It earned this name because of its incredible strength and the light rays it emitted. Besides being the most beautiful gem they are also the hardest substance found on earth. Diamonds have been mined Botswana, Australia, Russia and South Africa, and recently Canada has been added to that list. April does have an alternative birthstone which is the opal. Unlike diamonds which are simply crystallized carbon, opals are found deep within the earth where the intense heat develops this beautiful stone. So even though there are many April celebrities that share the diamond birthstone with you the diamond is a celebrity and star all on its own. Recognized back to ancient times for its symbol of love and its beautiful brilliance.

Prohibition s other ending remembered on april 7

    #1

While Prohibition's repeal came on December 5, 1933, American brewers celebrate the end of that era with "Brew Year's Eve" on April 7. It seems the country's brewers were back in business on this earlier date, when Americans enjoyed beer as their first legal drink in 12 years. Franklin Delano Roosevelt's support for repeal helped him win the 1932 presidential election. Shortly after he took office, he worked with Congress to amend the Prohibition law and make beer legal again. The first delivery of legal beer arrived at the White House on April 7 and Americans were able to enjoy beer throughout the year that was required to ratify the 21st Amendment. Roosevelt's support for repeal was more than just populist electioneering. He knew that revitalization of the brewing industry would be good for the American economy. This continues to be true today, with 1,400 American brewers creating jobs, paying taxes and contributing to community organizations and causes nationwide. Not so long ago, Americans would have had to look hard to find an American brewery. In the 1970s, fewer than 70 were in operation. But the craft brewing movement that has blossomed since 1980 has swelled the ranks of brewers, putting small, traditional and independent makers of beer in nearly every community in the country. As brewers celebrate Brew Year's Eve this April 7, they commemorate not only the beverage but also the contributions brewers make to their communities. The Brewers Association, the craft brewers' trade group, estimates that more than 20,000 organizations receive donations or sponsorships from brewers every year. Supported groups range from police and firefighters, to outdoor and environmental organizations, to neighborhood theater and art programs and medical research causes.
