Albania tirana korca and petrela castle

    #1

Located in Southeastern Europe, Albania is a country off of the beaten travel road. Of course, this makes Albania a great place to visit. Albania – History Albania is a Mediterranean country sitting on the coast of the Adriatic and Ionian seas. The country is bordered to the north by Serbia and Montenegro, Greece to the south and Macedonia to the east. Involved in the massive strife arising in the former Yugoslavia, the country was previously a Soviet-Bloc country. These days, Albania is a democracy fighting to find its economic feet. Tirana Tirana is the capital of Albania and has a population of a little over 300,000. The city is an eclectic mix of traditional European structures, soviet style five story buildings and mid-east influenced architecture. Relatively small, Tirana is a city with a small town feel. Korca – Rugs, Rugs, Rugs Korca is a city located in the east of Albania close to the border of Greece. Built high up on a plateau, Korca is a must see if you love Turkish style rugs and carpets. The entire city seems to be devoted to the manufacture and sale of every size, color and type of rug. If you’re staying overnight, Hotel Iliria is your best option. Petrela Castle Dating back to 500 AD, Petrela Castle is an ancient structure, which is in relatively good shape considering the history attached to it. At one time or another, Petrela was the primary defense of the city of Durres. It has been held, used and conquered by Romans, Greeks, Turks and other. Seriously off the beaten path, getting to Petrela requires a sturdy Jeep or Landcruiser. It is a very bumpy road, but the view is more than worth it. While Albania is struggling to recovery from a communist pass, it is a fairly safe place to visit. The people are nice and it is definitely an opportunity to visit a country off the beaten path.

There truly are companies that have a castle blueprint layout for building castles that look like those you’ve seen in movies and storybooks. These castle homes are generally huge with at least 4 or more bedrooms. One castle is named Glenveagh Castle. Entrance to the castle is through a Foyer. On the left is a parlor, in back of the parlor is a huge octagonal master bedroom with a private bath, extra large walk in closet and access to a private deck. The foyer of this castle leads straight ahead into a grand room and to a dining room on the left. The blueprints for Castle Glenveagh shows entry from the dining room into the kitchen and from the kitchen into the keeping room and breakfast nook and then to the den. There is also a powder room off of the foyer and a utility room and toilet behind the kitchen. Glenveagh castle is very similar to another castle home called Kildare Castle except that the castle layout blueprints are reversed left to right. The second floor of this castle is also magnificent. The blueprints show 3 fairly large bedrooms, each laid out with a private bath and walk in closet. There are other castle blueprints available but Castle Kildare and Castle Glenveagh are two of the most luxurious castle layouts. Do a web search for castle home plans or castle floor plans and take a look for yourself.

Visiting the castles of devon a look into britain s most ancient and mystical history

Aside from it’s beautiful, rugged coastline and red cliffs Devon is home to some very impressive Castles: Dartmouth Castle – The most striking feature of Dartmouth Castle is that it stands tall right on the banks of the Dart Estuary – a stunning waterside setting. Dartmouth Castle was initially built in the 14th Century, but underwent substantial works in the 15th Century when Henry VIII had it redesigned to be able to better fit his weaponry. Close to Dartmouth Castle is Kingswear Castle and St Petroc’s Church. Given the beautiful setting (right at the mouth of the Dart Estuary), Dartmouth Castle is well worth a visit – not just to marvel at the history but to enjoy the awesome scenery and perhaps enjoy a picnic. It’s possible to arrive in style via Ferry – taking in the lovely views available from the River Dart along the way. Totnes Castle – On top of the charming little Devon town of Totnes stands the Norman fortress of Totnes Castle. The views from the top of the castle are outstanding, offering panorama of the entire town and River Dart. The castle itself was thought to have been built sometime in the 10th Century. After visiting the castle be sure to enjoy a stroll along the steep, narrow town lanes – they offer a festival of perky shops and some pleasant eateries. Okehampton Castle – These castle ruins, set at the foothills of Dartmoor, were the medieval home of the Earls of Devon. The Castle offers a free audio tour and after enjoying the stroll around the castle grounds (including the chapel, gatehouse and priests lodgings) you can take in a pleasant woodland walk or relax by the riverside picnic area. The castle itself dates as far back as the 11th Century. A highly fascinating side-note – it’s thought that the castle is haunted so be sure not to wander around by yourself once the sun sets! Berry Pomeroy Castle – About two miles east of Totnes is this former dwelling of the Seymour and Pomeroy families. The castle and Elizabethan mansion was initially built in the 15th Century and underwent expansion towards the end of the 17th Century. This is another castle that is thought to be haunted!

    Budapest hungary the castle district

Towering a couple hundred feet above the Danube River, the Castle District in Budapest is a special place. Surrounded by gothic churches with stain glass, a visit to the Castle District is like stepping back into the renaissance. Castle District Situated in the Buda section of Budapest, the Castle District sits on the eastern side of the Danube. Positioned a couple hundred feet above the Danube, the entire city of Budapest can be seen from the numerous vantage points. The view is so amazing, the Italians coined a saying, “Europe has three gems – Venice on the water, Florence in the plains and Buda in the hills.” The Italians definitely got it right. Buda Castle Visiting Buda Castle is like stepping back into the heights of the renaissance. The Castle is adorned with red marble stairways, gothic facades, bastions and epic statutes overlooking the Danube. The fountains around the Castle simply can’t be described with words. Holy Trinity Square Just to the south of Buda Castle lies holy trinity square. The Church of the Holy Lady, which is also known as Matthias Church, dominates the square. The church has served as the location where Hungarian Kings undertook their rule and many famous figures are interred on the grounds. Behind Matthias Church is the rather interesting Fishermen’s Bastion. This Roman bastion has the appearance of a mini-castle at Disneyland. The views from the parapets are amazing as you take in the Danube River as it cuts through Budapest. Just outside of Bastion, however, you have to keep your eye out for something amazing. Hungarians historically have been some of the best horsemen in the world. As part of the tradition, the horseman carried bullwhips instead of ropes. Big bull whips. And they like to crack them just outside of the bastion. If you aren’t paying attention when this occurs, the world’s loudest snap will send scare the “you know what” out of you. The only thing I can equate it to is the sound of rolling thunder, but without the rolling. When it happens, drinks, food and cameras go flying.

Bouncy castle hire business why start one

    #1

: Bouncy castle hire business - the rewards Hiring out a bouncy castle or another type of inflatable for children’s or adult’s parties can be a highly profitable and enjoyable business that won’t take up much of your time, or cause you sleepless nights. As an example of the financial rewards that can be yours, if you were to operate only three bouncy castles on part time hire at weekends, with each bouncy castle going out at around Ј65 per day, you could bring in Ј390-400 per weekend, amounting to Ј1,690-Ј1730 per month gross. With business expenses at around Ј200 per month, you could end up with a net profit of around Ј1,500 a month. And this is from just a few hours work a week. A part time business run from home Many successful bouncy castle hire businesses operate from home and are run by people doing full time jobs during the week. To run the business you only need to devote a few hours to it each week, and you won’t need to make a huge financial investment to get things started. The bouncy castle business is ideal for home operation: you only need to be available to deliver and collect the bouncy castle at the end of the day, and have somewhere to store your deflated bouncy castles when they are not in use. But will there be enough demand to make the bouncy castle business worth while? Of course there are no guarantees in business, but keep in mind that children have birthdays every day of the year, and every year there are more and more children out there. Adults are pretty fond of bouncy castles too. Hire for parties in back gardens will be good in the summer and autumn, and in the winter and spring, hire for indoor parties, for example, in community halls, or church hall, will ensure that your bouncy castle business runs all year round. The truth is that competitors often find that demand for bouncy castle hire exceeds supply -- especially in the summer months. There is normally plenty of room for everyone to operate in a medium to large sized town, or city. In a busy area, you will even find rival companies passing over enquiries to each other when they are fully booked! You might even find that there are no competitor bouncy castle businesses operating in your area. A business that can grow Many bouncy castle hire businesses start out small, say, operating one or two bouncy castles, but then expand within a few years to operating and handful. Ten years later the business might be operating as many as twenty. However, remember that how big you grow is largely up to you.

Many people dream about owning a castle . For some people the dream has become a reality . This article is a look at how the dream can come true . The Dobsons are a family from the Midlands of England . 3 years ago they took the momentous decision to buy a Scottish castle - Duncriag castle in the Highlands. The castle was in a poor state of repair with a leaky roof , no heating and in dire need of proper maintenance. The island is the ultimate private residence because of its seclusion. It has potential as a hotel or leisure development. There is also a 300 year old lighthouse complex with superb views of the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig. The island has good mobile phone reception and wireless internet access but no telephone line. In the 14th century King Robert hunted the island's wildlife. There are a small number of castles for sale in Europe. Budapest hungary an incredible city

    #1

Located in Eastern Europe, Hungary is diverse and beautiful country. The undisputed treasure of the country is Budapest. Budapest – A Tale of Three Cities Over 2,000 years old, Budapest is a large city containing traces of the various forces that have ruled it over time. Romans, Turks, Goths and many others have conquered the city. Somehow, the various influences work in such a way as to make the city sparkle. In a bit of trivia, Budapest was historically considered three cities. The three cities were Pest, Obuda and Buda. Although grouped together, the cities were naturally divided by the Danube River which forks in the middle of the city. In 1873, the three cities were combined into one and given the Budapest name. Although Budapest has more attractions than could possible be covered in one article, here are a few must see locations. Buda Castle Sitting on top of a hill and towering over the Danube, the Buda Castle is stunning. Construction started under the guidance of King Bela IV in the 14th century and was expanded upon by later rulers. Medieval times, however, saw the castle burned, looted, demolished, bombed with cannon balls and ransacked. Each time, new rulers rebuilt. Visiting Buda Castle is like stepping back into the heights of the renaissance. The Castle is adorned with red marble stairways, gothic facades, bastions and epic statutes overlooking the Danube. The fountains around the Castle simply can’t be described with words. Spas Budapest sits over a tectonic plate fault line, which usually is a bad thing. In this case, however, the location of the city corresponds with a plethora of hot mineral springs. Enterprising Hungarians have build spas on the springs and are open for business. The spas are “over the top” with an opera house feel. Floating around peacefully, one feels like European royalty. If you are traveling to Europe, plan on devoting a week to Budapest. For those in love with Prague, one visit to Budapest may change your mind.

“Of course, the castle is haunted you know,” teased the waitress as she served up tea and scones. In Knaresborough everything stops for tea and scones, but only when topped with a healthy lashing of fresh cream and raspberry jam. “They say the ghosts of several family members walk the halls of Allerton Castle,” she continued in a tone that suggested she had told this story before and obviously enjoyed it. Her manner was exemplary. Her advancing years were of little consequence to her appearance; she maintained an air of elegance. She was born in the village and had lived here all her life. The village of Knaresborough sits in the northern county of Yorkshire, around thirty miles north of Leeds. The journey north along the M1 was instantly forgettable. Wrathful clouds followed me everywhere. The sky was a mishmash of drab greys, an incessant resource for the torrential downpour. “How old is the castle?” I asked, eager to discover more of this historic landmark. “I think it was built sometime around the seventeenth-century. I know it was recently damaged by fire. Many of the rooms are off limits during repair and restoration. Is it a social engagement?” “My partner’s cousin is getting married there tomorrow,” I replied. “I’ve got a room on the high street for tonight.” The cafй was sat on the banks of the river that had cut through the landscape for centuries. The riverbed was now part of a great gorge that snaked through the outskirts of the village. Just before passing out of view, the river ran through the giant support pillars of the old railway bridge. Directly overhead lay the ruins of the old Knaresborough Castle. Overlooking the river and the gorge, the abrupt drop of the land must have provided the inhabitants of the castle a wonderful natural defence. Today, a monument stands in the corner of the castle grounds depicting the names of those who lost their lives in more recent conflicts. I made for the high street and quickly found myself back in the modern world. The pace quickened as shoppers scurried in and out of shops seeking the latest bargains. Back at the hotel I thought about what the old lady had said. Was the castle really haunted? I lay in bed wondering about spooks and spirits. As the clock passed midnight the shadows in the room seemed more dark and sinister. I felt my imagination getting the better of me before thankfully, I nodded off.

Malaga spain is a beautiful place to visit

    #1

If you have decided to travel to Malaga, Spain, prepare to be busy. There is so much to do in and around this Costa del Sol town that you will never lack for something to do. The weather in this area is typically Mediterranean; hot summers and mild winters. The most popular time for vacationers is summer, but a visit to this area is lovely any time of year. If you do want to travel during the busy summer months, make sure you book your flight, your hotel, your car rental well in advance. If you wait too long, the availability will be less and you may have to pay more for what you want. Car rentals are available both at the airport or in the city. If you decide you don't need a car, (or if you wait too long and find you can't rent one because it is summer) you can hire a car just to take you to and from the airport. You will have a number of attractions to visit in Malaga. One of the most interesting is the Citadel or Alcazabo. This is the largest fortress in Andalucia, built during the eighth through the eleventh centuries. It is next to the Castle of Gibralfaro, another interesting site. At the Citadel, there are two museums, one of them a very fascinating archaeological museum. Anyone who enjoys history should make this stop. Malaga, like most old Spanish cities, has a castle. Its Castle of Gibralfaro was constructed in the fourteenth century. You can take a tour of the castle and be further steeped in history. Make sure you take in the lovely view of the city and the port from the ramparts of the castle. Since they are right next to each other, a day or afternoon spent at the Citadel and the Castle is a worthwhile one. The next stop should be the Cathedral of Malaga. Construction of this landmark was started in 1528, but stopped and started again over the next two centuries. It came to a final stop in 1783 when there were no more funds to continue, and one of the towers is still not finished, to this day. One of the most interesting things about this cathedral is that since the construction spanned so many eras, many different styles of architecture are seen in this one building. The Archaeological Museum of Malaga has a considerable collection of Gothic and Greek art, as well as the ruins of a ancient Roman Amphitheater. Don't miss the Museo de la Ceramica; pottery and ceramic works from all eras are on display here. After you and your children have soaked up all this history and culture, it may be time to reward them with a visit to the Tivoli Amusement Park. This is a very popular tourist attraction, with rides for children of all ages as well as daily shows, and botanical gardens to tour.

    It s no sugar shack

    #1

It's a tradition now at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco. Executive Pastry Chef, Jean-Franзois Houdrй, aka "King of the Castle," is diligently working day and night perfecting his signature 12-feet rotating holiday Sugar Castle, to be unveiled in the Tower Lobby of The Westin St. Francis on Friday, November 23. "The creation of the Sugar Castle is truly a labor of love," says Chef Houdrй. "Each year, I begin working on it two months in advance, adding more special touches and details each time. This year's version promises to be the best yet!" The inspiration to create this one-of-a-kind, grandiose Sugar Castle came from Chef Houdrй's trip to Europe with his family in 2005. While traveling around Bordeaux, the Houdrй family visited many remarkable chвteaux, particularly Mont Saint Michel and La Citй de Carcassonne, which is one of Europe's most complete examples of a fortified abbey. As the Houdrй family toured these extravagant castles, his son Henri, age ten, and his daughter, Claudia, age eight, were able to experience an earlier time when royalty once occupied these magnificent castles centuries ago. From that experience, the children were able to convince their father that he must build a sugar castle at The Westin St. Francis to rival the royal castles in France and display it for children to visit during the holiday season. Resembling a French Chateau from Chef Houdre's hometown of Bordeaux, the 100% edible castle is made of pastillage (a combination of powdered sugar, egg whites and gelatin dough), gingerbread, sugar, molasses, flour and candy. Weighing over 1200 pounds, this magical castle features more than 20 grand circular towers, approximately 30 rooms, illuminated windows, and is surrounded by a quaint village and a running train. The castle is entirely edible, and is comprised of: 70 pounds of gingerbread, 130 pounds of pastillage (Powder sugar egg white and gelatin dough), 40 pounds of pulled and bubble sugar, Royal icing made of 300 pounds of sugar and egg whites, 40 pounds of molasses, 60 pounds of flour and 100 pounds of assorted Christmas Candy. It takes approximately 360 hours to complete the holiday masterpiece. Opened more than a century ago on March 21, 1904, The Westin St. Francis is the only hotel located on San Francisco's famous Union Square, The Westin St. Francis is just steps from The City's best shopping, dining, theatres and art galleries. For reservations and more information, visit westinfrancis.

You don’t need to be on your honeymoon, taking your wife, or partner on a romantic vacation to Scotland , you need look no further than Inverlochy castle. You wouldn’t want to be staying here if you were looking for a cheap honeymoon destination that’s for sure, but having said that, if you get the chance to stay at Inverlochy Castle, then take it. If you can afford it, then take the King’s Suite, not only is it very large, but beautifully appointed, very traditional, but still with modern touches such as plasma television and internet access. The bath is also huge, and the towels beautifully fluffy, and the walk in shower, which is something we both love. We didn’t go there for the room, but all the other touches from a hotel like this. It is one of the most beautifully restored Scottish castles, and arriving in the rain, an umbrella appeared, our luggage disappeared, and our car was parked. Then walking into chocolates and champagne in our suite was another nice touch This was pampering, and it continued throughout our stay, from breakfast in our suite, where we looked out over Ben Nevis from one window, and the loch from the other. The food was to die for, and all our meals were quite superb. It is fair to say that you need to be fond of a bit of hill walking, photography, just enjoying the scenery, because there isn’t much entertainment around the area, but then we were on our honeymoon!!! I think what we liked the most was how unobtrusive, and respectful the staff were, totally respecting our privacy. Not only is Inverlochy Castle one of the very top luxury hotels in Scotland, it has to be one of the very best European honeymoon destinations

Halloween fly fishing the ultimate bite

    #1

Halloween and fly fishing may seem like an odd mix, but not for true anglers. Yep, I’m talking about the ultimate test of your abilities and nerve. Dracula’s River Okay, everyone knows the story of Count Dracula. The book is huge and has been turned into more than a few scary movies. The one the frightened me the most was the recent edition in which Keanu Reaves attempted to speak with an English accent. Truly scary. Anyway, the interesting thing about Dracula is that it is based on a real person. Vlad the Impaler was a nasty man by any definition. By Vlad, I mean the Romanian Prince, not the Angels outfielder that blasts home runs…except in the playoffs to my dismay. With a nickname like “Impaler”, I shouldn’t have to recite his resume, but will mention that he had a thing for long sticks with one end buried in the ground and the other end sharpened to a point. It was very wise to stay on his good side - “Vlad, did you lose some weight?” and so on. Vlad ruled Romania during his reign and was such an enthusiast for impaling that those in the lumber business look back upon him with sighs of happiness. As anyone knows from the book, Vlad had his home office at Bran Castle in the Carpathian Mountains although he maintained branch offices in London. In fact, the castle stands today and you can spend your hard earned tourist money strolling about the grounds, buying fake fangs, garlic and so on. What isn’t widely known, of course, is Bran Castle was never the home of Vlad, who apparently didn’t care for the overly religious dйcor and garlic garden in the backyard. The true home of Vlad the Impaler is Dracula Castle, which sits on the Arges River. The castle is not a hot tourist destination. Perhaps this is because the only things left are a few stones sticking out of the ground. Nonetheless, below the castle runs the Arges River. Known in antiquity as the Ordessus, this is the spot where Vlad did some of his top-notch impaling and supposedly tied a unique fly or two. Even after all these years, the fish remain influenced and it takes a brave angler to hit the spot. Body armor, garlic and a shield are not typical equipment for fly fishing. If you’re going to fish with Vlad, however, each is a must. The fish are odd. The locals with missing fingers and hands will fill you in. The “Impaler Pike” is known to react to being hooked by accelerating towards the angler and leaping from the water in the direction of one’s nether region. The Arges Cutthroat, of course, needs no description, but the Big Macks definitely give rise to the need for garlic. Finally, the Vlad Muskie can be caught, but an older gentlemen with only one ear suggested this isn’t necessarily a good thing. All and all, one doesn’t so much catch a fish below Vlad’s castle as survive the experience. You may be wondering about the best flies to use in such circumstances. The old stand by Woolly Bugger? Perhaps a Clauser’s Minnow? Nope. According to locals, just nip a finger, rub the blood on a hook and off you go! Happy Halloween From Nomad Journals! By the way, you really can fly fish on the Arges below Vlad’s true castle. No armor needed, but garlic keeps the mosquitoes off. Little blood suckers.

If you are looking for a great family day out then you could not go far wrong with a trip to Warwick Castle. Built in 1068 this castle is steeped in history and the surrounding gardens and views are spectacular. I am somebody who loves to visit different castles around the country and I would have to say that Warwick is probably my favourite. As you walk around the castle and its grounds you see many people dressed in original costume and in the summer there are normally barbeques in the gardens and on one occasion I saw a puppet show. The Earls Of Warwick 1088-1119 Henry De Newburgh 1119-1153 Roger De Newburgh 1153-1184 William De Newburgh 1184-1203 Waleran De Newburgh 1203-1229 Henry De Newburgh 1229-1242 Thomas De Newburgh 1242-1263 John Du Plessis 1263-1268 William Mauduit 1268-1298 William De Beauchamp 1298-1315 Guy De Beauchamp 1329-1369 Thomas De Beauchamp 1369-1401 Thomas De Beauchamp 1401-1439 Richard Beauchamp 1439-1446 Henry Beauchamp (also first and only Duke, 1445-1446) 1446-1449 Anne Beauchamp 1449-1471 Richard Neville (The Kingmaker) 1472-1478 George Plantagent (Duke of Clarence) 1478-1499 Edward Plantagent 1499-1547 Crown Property (1499-1509, Henry VII, 1509-47, Henry VIII) 1547-1553 John Dudley I 1553-1554 John Dudley II 1561-1590 Ambrose Dudley 1590-1604 Crown Property (1590-1603, Elizabeth I, 1603-04, James I) 1604-1628 Sir Fulke Greville (owned the castle as Baron Brooke while the Earldom was held by the Rich family. The Greville's were granted the Earldom in 1759) 1618-1619 Robert Rich I 1619-1658 Robert Rich II 1621-1628 Sir Fulke Greville 1658-1659 Robert Rich III 1659-1673 Charles Rich 1673-1675 Robert Rich IV 1675-1701 Edward Rich I 1701-1721 Edward Henry Rich 1721-1759 Edward Rich II 1759-1773 Francis Greville 1773-1816 George Greville 1816-1853 Henry Richard Greville 1853-1893 George Guy Greville 1893-1924 Francis Richard Greville 1924-1928 Leopold Guy Greville 1928-1984 Charles Guy Greville 1984-1996 David Greville 1996- Guy Greville Warwick Castle was built to be very sturdy in an attempt to stop intruders getting into the castle and to keep it from falling down after the many battles that took place in this period. The castle has now been taken over by the Tussauds group and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the UK. Areas of Warwick Castle to look out for include: Guys Tower The Towers and Ramparts Bear and Clarence Towers The Curtain Walls The Gatehouse and Barbican Caesar's Tower The Dungeon The Ghost Tower The Chapel If you are planning a trip to England or live in the country itself I would certainly recommend a visit to this castle, I actually take my own family twice a year.
